Ever After High x Twisted Wonderland AU Headcanons part 24: Way Too Wonderland
(Mini) special 7
AU concept
MASTERLIST
Warning: English is not my first language so sorry if it’s confusing.
I LIVE!!!
AND I’M BACK WITH A NEW HEADCANONS PART!!! ^^
I am so sorry making you wait for so long, a lot of circonstances in my personal life and very bad cases of writer blocks and lack of motivations got in the way! T_T
But now I did it! The new headcanons part is ready! :D
For this part, you asked for it, you were waiting for it! We’re now going into the Way Too Wonderland arc!!! :D
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-At NRC, after the festival’s events, the students were going on their daily lives, one student however seemed very distracted: Lizzie Hearts.
-Lizzie was being more home sicking than usual, especially ever since she received an invitation for her mother’s birthday.
-Things go similar to the EAH canon: the EAH transfers find out thanks to Brooke and are tricked into being spirited away in Wonderland but instead of the Evil Queen it's Milton Grimm and Snow White who tricked them.
-Since Apple is either a RSA students(Apple's Happily Ever After path) or locked in a mental institution (Apple's Badly Ever After path), Yuu and Grim took her place in the group for the Wonderland adventure.
-The TWST boys who get spirited away in Wonderland with the EAH transfers: the Heartslabyul gang.
-When Riddle learned there's a conspiracy against the current Queen of Heart, he went on board to help Lizzie and the others and the rest of the Heartslabyul gang got ropped in.
-Just like the EAH girls, the Heartslabyul gang, Yuu and Grim get Wonderland outfits.
-As they explore Wonderland, the group end up caught into Wonderland shenanigans and unwillingly step on Wonderland High ground making them meet Chase and forcing them to attend the school.
-Like in the canon, the group follow the school studying course to graduate and be able to leave.
-Riddle, Lizzie, Maddie and Kitty are the ones that come out the best in those classes.
-The others aren’t going bad at the class but some have big difficulties to go with the classes’s weirdness (*cough*Deuce, Ace and Grim*cough*).
-During their “stay” at the school the group meet Lily, the daughter of the White Queen.
-While talking with her, they learn she found out some times ago a book which looked very much like the Storybook of Legends(as she never saw it in person before Lily isn’t sure) and during a conversation with her mother through mirrorpads, the latter “advised her” to give the book to the Queen of Hearts for her birthday.
-She was about to add more when the group had to go back to classes.
-Back at NRC, everyone is actively searching for the missing students.
-Brooke was very frustrated to not be able to do anything to help, no matter how often she tried to contact someone through NRC’s mirrors but failed every time.
-She then discovered she can interact with objects, an ability she used to send a message which got found by Darling who then without wasting any time put on her armor, took Sir Gallopad and went to Wonderland through NRC’s well to go help her friends.
-She managed to infiltrate Wonderland High and to end up in the same classes than the NRC group and warn them about the conspiracy against the Queen of Hearts.
-Like in the EAH canon, Courtly made sure to make the classes impossible for the NRC group to succeed.
-At the chess game turned into a un-chess game Raven took Lily’s place as the white queen piece much to Lily’s frustration(‘I never get to play!”).
-Ace profit from the chess game changements to provoke a battle dance which result in a battle dance between Chase and Darling and give the opportunity for the others to sneak away.
-They get however intercepted by Lily who doesn’t understand why they sneak away like that and risking to fail their courses.
-When they explained to Lily about the conspiracy and the possible involvement of the White Queen, Lily was at first in denial ‘cause that would mean that not only her mother is involved in a crime against the Queen of Hearts, which is VERY severe, but also used her as a pawn which in the white chess kingdom and in the red chess kingdom is extremely serious.
-Headcanon: In Wonderland, using a chess piece which is beneath or against it purpose is a crime which could be very severe to an act of treason if the chess piece used is a royal piece.
-The others insist and told Lily to be on the look out and leave.
-Like in the canon, Courtly played with time and make the group failed their classes and get them sent to a trial.
-Things were not doing good for the group and they were about to be found guilty when Deuce objected that Courtly committed a more severe fault by having transgressed some of the Queen of Hearts rules.
-The rules in questions are “One must not play with time as, like with food, time must not to be wasted” and “Creating more no-sense in a no-sense society only disturb society’s order, this why, any no-sense perpetrator must be punished”.
-Courtly try to deny it but thanks to their magic the NRC group managed to prove she indeed messed with time to sabotage the group’s classes, which had also unwittingly sabotaged the classes of all the other students of Wonderland High.
-The more Courtly tries to justify herself or make up excuses, the more the group, particularly the Heartslabyul group, point out a Queen of Hearts rule she broke.
-Courtly, being so frustrated, end up snapping at them “WHO CARES ABOUT THOSE STUPID LAWS?!”.
-This put her in trouble with the caterpillar judge and in panic, Courtly teleported away thanks to a magical device.
-She teleported in her office to call Milton and Snow White in panic but the two told her to get a grip and that all is still according to plan ‘cause the White Queen reported to them that Lily had give the true Storybook of Legends to the Queen of Hearts for her birthday and told Courtly to go retrieve it.
-Meanwhile, Lily, still a bit shaken by what the NRC group told her, called her mother hoping all this was just a misunderstanding, but to her horror the White Queen confirmed that she was aware that the book Lily give to the Queen of Hearts was the actual Storybook of Legends and revealed that she told Lily to give the book to the Queen of Hearts ‘cause it was part of a plan to give the book back to Milton Grimm and to dethrone the Queen of Hearts to “Make things straight again”.
-She was even acting as if Lily was on board with the plan and ended up the call, leaving her daughter drowning in the horrible realization that not only her mother committed the crime of having used her daughter, her heiress, as a simple pawn but also for participating in a conspiracy against the Queen of Hearts.
-With the NRC group things realized that Courtly escaped to go steal the Storybook of Legends and quickly escaped Wonderland High to go to the Card Castle.
-Things go a bit like in the EAH canon and Kitty at one point vanished to go retrieve the book in the present room and Riddle, although at first upset to see Lizzie this distressed, quickly realized that the Queen of Hearts was doing an opposite game.
-Kitty reappeared smuggly when Courtly came with the “book” in her hands thinking she won and used a magical device to permit Milton Grimm and Snow White to enter Wonderland and give her the book.
-But when she asked them about her future “new destiny as Lizzie’s remplacement” like they promised only for Milton, Snow White and the White Queen to look at her as if Courtly was crazy and told her that there was no way she would take Lizzie’s destiny and that this plan was to push her and all the other “EAH students” to go back to the “rightful destiny” making Courtly realized that she have been tricked.
-But when Milton opened the book and try to defuse the illusion magic of the wonderland water, he realized it wasn’t the actual Storybook of Legends but a simple sketchbook stylized like the Storybook of Legends and then noticed a smirking Kitty holding the real book.
-See, when Kitty talked with her mother on Card Castle’s roof, the latter give her a sketchbook looking like the Storybook of Legends under the pretext that those were very popular in Wonderland and that she wanted to give it to Kitty as a gift ‘cause “it would be useful to her”.
-This gave Kitty the idea, once she appeared in the present room, the idea of replacing the disguised Storybook of Legends with the sketchbook so like this Courtly would find it instead of the real one.
-Furious, Milton Grimm by using his magic summoned strange dark creatures to attack the NRC group to take the book.
-The NRC group were shocked to see that the creatures’s aura was the same than the overblot monsters’s.
-The thing is: When Milton got interested in the overblot forms, he studied them, even collected the dark rocks from overblots to create minions with them and his magic.
-As the NRC group were about to fight, despite the creatures outnumbering them, everyone got suddenly interrupted by an army composed of the white chess piece students, Darling, Chase and all of them lead by none other than Lily.
-The White Queen tried to defuse the situation but Lily snapped to her that they don’t take orders from a traitor.
-With the White Queen’s confusion Lily is like “White Queen! You are accused of high acts of treason for having conspired against the Queen of Hearts and for having used your own heiress for a role beneath her role as a royal chess piece!”
-A battle happens with the chess pieces and the NRC group against Milton Grimm, Snow White, the White Queen and their creatures.
-Through the battle, Lily give orders and instructions to the chess pieces students like it was a game of chess.
-At one point, Raven found herself with the book and as she was about to be attacked by Milton’s creatures, she unlocked her unique magic “Mirror on the wall”.
-This unique magic permits Raven to create mirrors which act like portals that Raven can use.
-She use her new found unique magic to escape the creatures’s assault.
-Thanks to the efforts of the TWST group and of the chess pieces students, Milton’s creatures are little by little defeated.
-Snow White, enraged by how things are going, was about to use the little number of spells she knows to attack Raven only to be blocked and finding herself in a 1v1 against Vil.
-Courtly, that everyone forget about in the heat of the battle, enraged was about to take it out on Lizzie but Riddle spotted her in time and used “Off with your head” to put a collard on Courtly and incapacitate her.
-At one point, Raven noticed Milton Grimm being about to throw a spell attack on Vil, she used her “Mirror on the wall” to teleport herself just in time to throw herself between Vil and the spell, using the Storybook of Legend as a shield which made the spell and the book and turning it into ashes, much to the horror of Milton, Snow White and the White Queen and freeing officially the citizen of the Ever After world from the Destiny ideology.
-With Milton, Snow White and the White Queen been stunned in horror with what happened, Lily and Lizzie profited from the situation to make a direct attract on Snow White and the White Queen and as they incapacitate them both, Lizzie and Lily both tell with a smirk “Check mate!”.
-Seeing his allies defeated, Milton was about to retaliate, he got interrupted by the surprise apparition of the Evil Queen and the teachers of NRC who even destroyed the last creatures.
-Turns out the teachers back at NRC found also Brook’s message about what was happening in Wonderland and after they contacted the Evil Queen, they go to Wonderland through the way in the NRC’s well.
-Seeing they were surrounded, Milton and Snow White got no other choice but to retreat and escape, leaving the White Queen behind.
-Everyone celebrated the victory, the White Queen got arrested for her treason against the Queen of Hearts and got removed from her title as the White Queen and the title was then given to her daughter Lily.
-But the rejoices died down when the atmosphere became tense because of the presence of the elephant in the room: the Evil Queen, the one responsible for the curse in Wonderland, being present.
-But what shocked the Wonderlandians was the Evil Queen, being respectful toward the Queen of Hearts, bowing to her and solemnly apologizing for having put the curse on Wonderland.
-While the Queen of Hearts appreciate the Evil Queen came clean about her wrong doings, she still had committed a big crime against Wonderland by having put the poisoning curse which created more chaos in Wonderland and had broken the “Creating more no-sense in a no-sense society only disturb society’s order, this why, any no-sense perpetrator must be punished”.
-As the atmosphere was becoming a bit uncomfortable, Riddle came up with a solution with the Queen of Hearts rule 053 “You must replace anything you steal”.
-Since the Evil Queen had “stolen” the no-sense order of Wonderland with her curse which made the Wonderlandians madder, her punishment could be that she had to “replace” the no-sense order by removing the curse and bring everything back to “normal” in Wonderland.
-The Queen of Hearts, interested by the suggestion and intrigued by the fact that someone this young and who is not a native from Wonderland seem to understand her rules well enough to know how to use them, accepted the idea and decreed that as punishment for her crimes against Wonderland, the Evil Queen will had to remove the curse she put on Wonderland, punishment the Evil Queen accepted.
-With Raven’s assistance, the Evil Queen and Raven used their magic to remove the curse bringing Wonderland back to “normal” and removed the barrier and the Evil Queen is officially forgiven by the Queen of Hearts.
-Everyone was happy but then came the next matter: what to do with Courtly?
-After much discussion between the adults, it was decided that for having actively participate in the conspiration against the Queen of Hearts Courtly was going to be exile from Wonderland to NRC where she will be a student and being straighten up and being in house arrest where the teachers and the students will keep a very close eye on her.
-Once everything was settled, the Queen of Hearts invited everyone to her birthday party to celebrate the end of the curse.
-During the party the Queen of Hearts get to know Riddle, who was very honored to meet the current Queen of Hearts, and was very impressed by the amount of knowledge and understanding her daughter’s new friend had about her rules.
-If whoever who use the AU go with the Riddle/Lizzie ship: The Queen of Hearts will approve of the relationship, thinking Riddle is a fine young man perfect for her daughter and during a play of croquet during the party she will give Riddle a bright pink flamingo which Riddle and Lizzie will quickly understand the meaning as, as stated by the rule 069 of the Queen of Hearts rules “If the queen approve her heir’s relationship she must give her blessing during a game of croquet by offering her future in-law a bright pink flamingo”(made up rule for the AU).
-During the party Crowley and the other NRC teachers interrogate the NRC group about what happened to the Storybook of Legends and were very pleased to learn that the book was destroyed and Crowley happily announced that he will send a message to their world to be spread across Twisted Wonderland and the Ever After world to announce the wonderful news.
-As the party was going on, back in Twisted Wonderland and the Ever After world everyone received the news about the destruction of the Storybook of Legends, putting everyone in a euphoria, the Ever After world citizen were all overjoyed that they were finally officially free, that the destiny ideology finally came to an end.
-But back in the Never After realm Milton and Snow White, but particularly Milton, are enraged by what happened to the Storybook of Legends, falling step by step into madness in their anger and hunger for going back in control.

OC Kiss Week 2024 - Day 2 - “Rain”
In which Matthew Raynott returns to his old lover, a changed man. (1646 words) WIP: Grey-Sky Lark (pre-canon) Characters: Edward Soames, Matthew Raynott Taglist: @mrbexwrites, @hippiewrites Content warning: suggestive
Spring had arrived in a torrent of icy rain from the Atlantic, turning Downing College’s lawn to a great muddy bog. Umbrellas became strewn sacrifices along Cambridge’s streets, trapped, inside-out, in spokes of bicycle tyres.
Little of it mattered to Edward. Reading week brought with it a pile of books almost as high as his hip, and he had nothing to do but enjoy them. Seminars and lectures were suspended - would have been for the weather, anyway - but the fire was well-stocked, and Edward’s roommate had travelled home for the week.
So when a knock sounded at his door just as he had settled into an evening of picking apart Milton’s tapestry of words, he rose to answer it with no small amount of irritation.
Irritation which melted away almost at once when he saw who it was.
“May I come in?”
Matthew’s hair was darkened into thick clumps by the rain, and he wore no coat. His suit was ruined, his expression grim. And though he hadn’t seen him in almost a year, Edward’s heart would never fail to skip a beat when he looked into those piercing blue eyes.
“Of course.”
He backed up and allowed his old friend to enter. Dozens of things to say entered Edward’s mind but died on his tongue - what does one say to one’s friend and former lover, estranged by nothing more trivial than the narrow distance between two universities? But when he saw the dark puddles of water that Matthew was leaving on the carpet, water running in rivulets from his clothes, he settled on: “Christ, Matthew, did you walk from Oxford?”
Matthew smiled, forced and uneasy. Edward quietly longed for the smile that was bright like sunshine, the one he knew was hard to look at too long. But now, even this insincere smile faltered, as though Matthew had only just noticed the distance that had grown between them, far wider than the length of the room. “No, this is just since the station,” he said, as his clothes gently dripped. “It’s biblical out there.”
Edward watched him carefully as he looked around at the fire, the pile of books, and at Paradise Lost waiting patiently on the window seat. He waited for a jab at his reading choice, some kind of joke about his reading more than was mandatory, or the ambitious speed at which he planned to do so. But none came: instead, Matthew looked at him from underneath sable lashes, his smile thin and lacking warmth, his expression dour.
“Why are you here, Matthew?”
He blinked once, before saying: “I’m here to say goodbye.”
“What?”
He had just come back; goodbye wasn’t on the table. Yes, Edward had grown resentful at their distance; had cursed his own heart for falling for someone so fickle. But despite it all, he couldn’t deny that it was towards Matthew that his heart always tugged and prodded.
Edward moved closer, narrowing that space in the room, but Matthew backed away from him, keeping the distance the same, holding his palms before him in either aversion or surrender. “I… I just wanted to see you one last time. Perhaps I shouldn’t have come.”
“Don't–” Edward said, moving forward again. This time, slower, as though Matthew was a cornered animal. “Don’t say things like that.” Yes, they had drifted apart. But Edward couldn’t fathom a future that didn’t feature Matthew in some way.
Matthew shook his head, flicking water droplets around the room. “I shouldn’t have come.”
Something shifted when Matthew at last allowed him to touch - a floodgate had opened. On his face, care and concern mingled with an old affection. The time they had spent apart melted like settled snow meeting rain, disappearing to nothing, and for all that had changed, they might as well have been sixteen again, craving each others’ touch and convinced that nothing would ever change.
“You should get out of these wet clothes.”
Sliding his hands beneath the shoulders of Matthew’s jacket to slide it off was the only sensible thing he could think to do - the only thing he could think to do that would stop Matthew from leaving in that moment.
Matthew let him free the sopping jacket from his shoulders. And once the jacket had been hung on the back of the chair, still dripping into the carpet, he allowed him to do the same to his waistcoat, its grey wool darkened in patches with rainwater. In silence, Matthew watched as Edward carefully removed his cufflinks and unfolded his cuffs.
His shirt was damp as well, and with Matthew’s hands continuing to unfasten the buttons from the top down, Edward began from the bottom, giddy on the heady feeling of being so intimate with Matthew again. His fingers fumbled on the buttons, almost as skittish as when he had first done so, all those years ago, and he twitched away when Matthew’s hands met his, somewhere near the middle.
When he looked up, Matthew’s eyes were squeezed shut, almost as though he was in pain.
“We really mustn’t do this,” he said, but his hand found Edward’s neck, sending shivers through him, despite the proximity of the fire. “I can’t promise…” he trailed off, bending towards him with a shuddering sigh. He was even closer to Edward now, but still only touching at those few pre-ordained places, holding back, tense as a racing hound. “I should go,” he said again, his voice a whisper.
The room was near-silent, apart from the fire. The rain continued to drum, distantly, outside. But damn him - Matthew’s presence always made Edward’s blood roar in his ears; always made his heart race like he was running uphill.
“You mustn’t go,” Edward replied, voice humming deep in his chest. He had always been the cautious one, not Matthew. But if he hadn’t come here for this, why had he come here at all? “I’ve learned not to take your promises too seriously anyway.”
Even as he said so, his hands slid against Matthew’s chest again and found his braces, sliding them from his shoulders. With a sigh barely loud enough for Edward to hear, Matthew’s lips came to rest over his thundering pulse, not kissing, but just lingering there in a tantalising brush.
“I missed you, Eddie,” he mumbled into his skin, the words spilling from him, more felt than heard. He dragged his nose up the side of Edward’s neck: it wouldn’t matter how long they had been apart; Edward’s body would remember that sensation and react in the way it always had, tugging him forward with an ache below his collarbone. “I could have used your manner of confronting my bad habits at Oxford.”
Having undone each button of Matthew’s shirt, all that was left was his trousers. Edward’s fingers lingered at the button; Matthew’s hand tightened on his neck.
“I wrote you,” Edward said, allowing his eyes to slide closed. The last thing he saw was the blurred world outside; the stirring lights of the street beyond the rain-clouded glass. “You never replied.”
Matthew did kiss his skin then, lips pressing at the spot where his collar ended. “Four,” he said, over the crackling sound of the fire, before kissing his pulse point again, trembling.
“Hmm?”
“Four. You wrote me four letters.” A hand slid around Edward’s waist as though it had never been anywhere else. “I don’t know why I didn’t reply to them. I wanted to. They just… sat there on my desk, judging me. And the longer they sat there, the harder it became to reply. I’m…” he smeared a sloppy kiss just below Edward’s ear. “Eddie, I’m so sorry.”
With that, Edward grabbed a fistful of his hair, wringing the strands and sending water trickling down Matthew’s back, and pulled him to his lips for a kiss.
None of it mattered: the time apart, the unanswered letters, the promised goodbye - because Matthew was pulling him close by his hips and kissing him back hungrily, groaning into his mouth.
Touching him hungrily, too, as though his hands couldn’t get enough. They were in his hair, and tugging at his shirt to untuck it, keenly seeking skin, pulling him towards the single bed. Once Edward had undone the button holding his trousers up, they fell into a wet heap, and Matthew stepped free from them, all with his lips on Edward’s.
The hands that undressed him were careful; so careful. Still, they left chills in their wake. Everything that followed was achingly gentle. Edward almost would have preferred something rushed and indelicate, something that didn’t feel so much like he was being picked apart more thoroughly than he had planned to pick apart Paradise Lost that evening. Something that didn’t feel quite so much like goodbye.
When they were through, wordlessly, they formed their usual shape: Edward resting his head on Matthew’s chest, Matthew’s arm surrounding his body. They fit in the small bed better like this; always had.
After a few moments, Matthew stirred, rising from the bed. Edward watched him leave, sick of reaching for something that wouldn’t be there. That didn’t mean he didn’t miss his presence though, that the small bed didn’t feel cavernous without him in it.
He wanted to promise that he’d love him no matter what, or some other such platitude. He wanted to turn back the clock and bring back the Matthew he had loved.
This other Matthew slid on his clothes, still cold and wet. Shoved his tie in a pocket, glanced back at him in bed with Matthew’s blue eyes.
And somehow, he knew, that when the man in Matthew’s body leaned down to kiss him once more, drawing a thumb over his bottom lip, lingering close for one last goodbye, that he would never see him again, and if he wrote, he wouldn’t get a reply.

hi! i love the game and am having a lot of fun replaying and trying all the different paths. i do have a question, though! what determines what milton says to you when you rescue him? i just got the "sweet potatoes are better than pumpkins" one for the first time and was wondering what might have triggered it.
Hi Anon,
I was curious if anyone would mention Milton's ramblings at the end, so this is a cool ask to receive. :D
(This only happens if Milton is in a state for the gang to interact with him; the overall tone is more hopeful than the grim ending.) What he says is determined by the choice you made about how to rouse Milton awake along with if you pass a stat check. Passing the check will let you wake him up, while failing it makes R get involved to wake him up. Specifically, you got this line…
"Fairy godmother… Sweet potatoes are way better than pumpkins," Milton slurs, squinting at you to see if you are real. "But you're magic. Magical…?"
…because you picked to feel genuine worry about his health and then passed a sincerity check. Milton can say quite a few random things.
Thank you for taking the time to experience TFS. I'm so glad that you love it! 💚🌲

Random Ever After High Rewrite wishlist?
In the unlikely event Mattel makes an Ever After High reboot (they should EAH is better than descendents) I hope:
They develop the Royals vs Rebels conflict like atm the Rebels don't face a realistic consequence for rejecting their destiny. I want there to be a sign of like parts of their world cracking somewhere. (Like it's something the audience and Milton Grimm sees but the rest of the cast aren't sure of)
Side note: I want the cracks to have been there pre raven rejecting her destiny and it to be unclear if not following destiny is worsening the problem or if the world is breaking down because stories are supposed to change and adjust to fit the audience and keeping the stories rigid is the problem.
I want Cerise's parents to have a prominent onscreen romance. (Let the healthiest couple shine!) They should both be teachers which let's them see each other often. I think it would be fun to have them sneaking around classrooms and being happy. As a side plot - at somepoint Red should get pregnant which leads to the truth about their family being revealed. I want to keep the angry mob prepared to kill them scene but I want there to be a scene where Red comes clean about being with her husband since they were teenagers and when asked about following her destiny she tells the angry mob gleefully that she was "eaten" by the big bad wolf. This is partially to scandalise everyone but also to buy time for idk the full moon and her husband to wolf out and break them out.
I want the brothers grim to know about the narrators but only be able to speak to them in a special room. I just love the idea of Milton climbing like an old rickety tower that leads to a mysterious library and trying to ask the narrators about the story then the female narrator (not Brooke) stonewall him and narrates him going back to the school which forces him to return to the school.
Apple white being a raging lesbian is *chefs kiss* but I want Briar to be aware of her friends sexuality and just not say anything. Like when they are first years I want Apple to have a major crush on like the miller's daughter (from Rumplestiltskin) as her first love. The miller's daughter was like a tutor or something. Only for her to be devastated when she finds out in her second year that the miller's daughter (now graduated) is dating rumplestiltskin's (hot) fairy son who will be the villain in her story. (This doubles Ashlynn's reluctance to out her relationship with Hunter but Briar side eyes her bestie) Apple's next crush is Raven (obviously) which Briar is also aware of. And finally when Darling kisses her reviving her she has a mental break as her life is turned upside down and Briar just turns and is like "Apple I love you but seriously you've never had a crush on a guy before." Apple- "I've never had a crush before." "Please, so gone for the Miller's daughter. You've been flirting with Raven like non stop and you were checking out Darling in gym." "Oh no."

The liner notes for Murder Ballads state that the phrase "red right hand" is from a line in John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost that refers to divine vengeance. The opening song on the album, "Song of Joy," states of a murderer: "It seems he has done many, many more, / quotes John Milton on the walls in the victim's blood. / The police are investigating at tremendous cost. / In my house he wrote 'his red right hand'. / That, I'm told, is from Paradise Lost.”
The aforementioned appearance in Paradise Lost (Book II, 170-174) is: "What if the breath that kindled those grim fires, / Awaked, should blow them into sevenfold rage, / And plunge us in the flames; or from above / Should intermitted vengeance arm again / His red right hand to plague us?". The term itself appears to be Milton's translation of the term "rubente dextera" in Horace's Ode I.2,2-3
Co-writer Mick Harvey recalled that the song originated during the songwriting process for the band's 1994 album Let Love In. The lyrics describe "a shadowy, alluring, and manipulative figure, stalking the land and striking a combination of fear and awe everywhere he goes" who is "seemingly part deity, part demon".
In 2004 researcher Kim Beissel claimed that "Red Right Hand" was loosely based on the 1987 Tom Waits song "Way Down in the Hole".

Some people seem to have a hard time understanding how there can be gods and goddesses in the great epics and poetic hymns of Ancient Greece that were not ACTUAL gods and goddesses, but just characters part of Greek literature. Take Eris for example, Strife personified: everybody knows her, she plays a key role in several great myths, she appears in several epics... But she wasn't an actual Greek goddess. She had no temple, no statue, no worship, no cult. She wasn't part of the Ancient Greek religion, she just existed as a literary character.
And to help these people understand how such things came to be, I think I found the perfect comparison. Milton's "Paradise Lost". In it, Satan gives birth to Sin, the female personificaton of - you guessed it - Sin. And then, Satan and Sin give birth together to Death - once again the character personifying Death.
We all agree that these characters are allegorical. They belong to a work of a religious nature, and are part of what appears to be a religious cosmogony - but they are not religious characters. Sin is a concept part of the Christian religion, indeed, but there is no actual character or religious figure supposed to embody "Sin". There are visual depictions of allegories of the deadly sins or the mortal sins on churches and in Christian art, but they are not true characters part of the religion. The same way, while Death as a figure is part of popular culture (the Grim Reaper), in Christianity there is no actual religious figure from Death (if you exclude the Judeo-Christian figure of the Angel of Death, or the "non-canon" folk-Christian figure of Santa Muerte from South America).
These characters are not part of the Christian religion, though based on actual religious concepts and cultural figures - and yet they are part of this poem, and depicted as intimately tied to the figure of Satan, an actual figure of the Christian religion.
Imagine if in thousands and thousands of years, when Christianity is a dead religion, people dig up "Paradise Lost" and assume that Sin and Death were actually figures part of the Christian religion - not just a poetic invention of Milton.

Just to clarify whenever I say “nobody in ever after high is straight” that dose in fact include Milton Grim purely because I have never seen a character with more “of course being gay is a choice I once struggled with same sex attraction but I got over it.” Energy

Paradise Lost (John Milton) "The primary imagery for Satan and other demons is unadulterated darkness. "No light, but rather darkness visible.""
Fear of the Dark (Trevor Baxendale) "Synopsis: "On the very edge of the galaxy lies Akoshemon: a putrefied world of legendary evil.
In the year 2382 archaeologists land on Akoshemon's only moon, searching for evidence of the planet's infamous past. But when the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa are drawn into the lunar caverns they find more than a team of academics — and help uncover much more than ancient history.
Something is lying in wait, deep inside the labyrinth of caves: something that remembers the spiral of war, pestilence and deprivation that ruined Akoshemon. Something that rejoiced in every kind of horror and destruction.
An age-old terror is about to be reborn. But what is the hideous secret of the Bloodhunter? And why does Nyssa feel that her thoughts are no longer her own? Forced to confront his own worst fears, even the Doctor will be pushed to breaking point — and beyond."
Why it's Dark: The Doctor does battle with the literal embodiment of darkness and evil, as unseen monsters in the dark pick off crewmembers one by one. Even by the standards of this series, this book is incredibly grim."

Thoughts on William Empson?
I love Milton's God: so well-reasoned, so wide-ranging, so clear and funny. I've read it twice and wrote a bit about it here, including a mild critique of its variant of atheism. Seven Types of Ambiguity, however, is not a book I could ever get started with—too dry for me. I haven't gone deeply into the poetry, but he certainly wrote one of the great villanelles in the grim "Missing Dates."
Slowly the poison the whole blood stream fills. It is not the effort nor the failure tires. The waste remains, the waste remains and kills.
It is not your system or clear sight that mills Down small to the consequence a life requires; Slowly the poison the whole blood stream fills.
They bled an old dog dry yet the exchange rills Of young dog blood gave but a month's desires. The waste remains, the waste remains and kills.
It is the Chinese tombs and the slag hills Usurp the soil, and not the soil retires. Slowly the poison the whole blood stream fills.
Not to have fire is to be a skin that shrills. The complete fire is death. From partial fires The waste remains, the waste remains and kills.
It is the poems you have lost, the ills From missing dates, at which the heart expires. Slowly the poison the whole blood stream fills. The waste remains, the waste remains and kills.

My review of The Sandman episode 1: Sleep of the Just
There is a long opening so you have ample time to press control and J and skip past any spoilers.
The first time I read The Sandman by Neil Gaiman is probably more recently than you may expect considering how much of a fan of it I have become.  I read Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman for the first time in the early summer of 2017.  And it all started because someone had asked me to portray DC comics canon Lucifer for a role playing game.  What little I knew about the character came from the Lucifer TV show that was (at the time) airing on Fox.  I knew that he made his first appearance in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and I knew that he resembled rock icon David Bowie.  I also knew that the main character looked like a “Goth Jareth” and that his sister was Death.        Years ago (in 1999) a friend had recommended The Sandman to me under the descriptors of “He’s like a Goth Jareth” and Death, his sister, is “So cute.” Jareth was the main antagonist of Jim Henson’s The Labyrinth. He was the Goblin King portrayed by David Bowie.
I was thirty-five-years-old (In 2017) when I finally read Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.  I also just so happened to have reached the issue / chapter Dream of a Thousand Cats in The Sandman: Dream Country (Volume 3) on the very same day I adopted two of my cats. Loki and Vlad. That was just a happy coincidence.  I came very close to naming Vlad after Morpheus AKA Dream (the main character of The Sandman) but his little fang over-bite made me decide to call him Vlad after Count Dracula instead.        Having read other works by Neil Gaiman, including Stardust, I was familiar with his style of writing and how it could go from extremely whimsical and child-like to dark and horrific.  When I first started reading The Sandman I expected a typical comic book experience, an easy-to-follow story with some fights and explosions that I usually would skip or skim out of boredom.  I never liked combat scenes.
It was only when I got to the end of issue 4 (Chapter 4 in the audio version) that I finally realized, this was no normal action-adventure story.   No. There were no explosions, or punching out bad guys.  This was more like a traditional fantasy novel series disguised as a graphic novel. It was surreal and complex with loving homages to classic Horror anthology comics and references to things like The House of Mystery and the House of Secrets (DC’s equivalents to EC’s Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror Comics.) And there were heavy references to classics too, like Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest, Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, and John Milton’s Paradise Lost.           It was a strange experience, finding a new obsession at this age.  For many years my obsessions had been a cycler collection of classic Gothic Horror figures like Dracula, Frankenstein (Literary accurate depictions), and Goethe’s Faust.  Reading Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman was like finding a piece of myself I hadn’t known I was missing.  It was like coming home.
The Sandman tells the story of Morpheus (also known as Dream of The Endless or The Sandman), the lord of Dreams.  When a group of occultists try to capture The Grim Reaper they accidentally summon The Lord of Dreams and decide to keep him prisoner.
After a century of captivity, Morpheus escapes and has to restore his crumbling kingdom in the collective unconscious of all sentient life, a dimension known as The Dreaming.
Morpheus used to be something of… well, an asshole.  So most of the saga is him setting right the wrongs of his past.  It’s a long redemption story with themes about the importance of change and the value of stories and imagination.  It’s a story about stories.  It’s beautiful and it is surreal.
The character of Morpheus is very much a Gothic aesthete.  He loves long, draping, black clothing, candles, ravens, spooky old houses, Gothic castles, Jack-o-lanterns, Nightmare-monsters, and all things Halloween.  A man after my own tastes!          Fast forward two years to 2019 when The Sandman TV series was announced by Netflix.  Needless to say, I was delighted.   The story had become something precious to me, from the graphic novels, to the novella, Dreamhunters.  Soon there would be a new audiobook adaptation with a full cast of voice actors add background music and sound effects like an old radio play.  This was a stunningly elaborate audio drama and I could only hope the TV show could do the show as much justice.          And much like other obsessions that pulled me through rough times, The Sandman was there when I needed it. Volume 1 of The Audio drama version happened to be released July 15th, 2020, the very night I was in the hospital with a serious bacterial infection.
The Sandman holds a special place in my heart and that means my opinion of the new TV adaptation could be the extreme of being overly critical or watching it with rose colored glasses and thinking of it as perfect and flawless.
I was fortunate enough to have been given a ticket to the virtual advanced screening of the first episode which included a thirty-minute introduction with Neil Gaiman and George R.R. Martin. I admit that through their conversation I grew very impatient and wanted to skip straight to the episode. They talked about both working with Charles Dance and Gwendoline Christie and how good the actors were.            At long last I got to watch the first episode of The Sandman Netflix Series, Sleep of The Just.  From this point on there will be spoilers.
          SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ON!
The first episode of The Sandman Netflix series is fairly faithful to the original issue (Chapter 1 of the audio book / audio drama).   I had thought they might leave the John Hathaway character out of the show adaptation but to my surprise he was there just like at the start of the original story.  Charles Dance is absolutely perfect as the dastardly Roderick Burgess, the leader of the occultists who summon and trap Morpheus.
Tom Sturridge (Morpheus) Provides the narration of the episode while his character, in the story, is silent for most of it. There were certain scenes I was worried about before viewing the episode such as having heard that Morpheus’s raven familiar, Jessamy, learns of his captivity and tries to free him.  I had worried about how she might have found out about the capture and if that would change certain plot elements but the show actually handled it very well.  She was with him when he was summoned.  The only reason she wasn’t trapped in the binding circle with him is she was dragged out while tucked into his robes.          I was also worried that they might make Morpheus’s escape too “actiony.” The Sandman is not an action story. There aren’t a lot of fight scenes or explosions.  The escape is very similar to the original depiction. The only difference is when the binding circle is breached (which may have been deliberately by Paul this time) the guard dreams of the beach and of Morpheus and the guard opens fire on him, and wakes to find he is shooting the cage in The Waking World, shattering the glass of Morpheus’s prison.  It’s a much more visceral escape scene than what was originally written but I don’t mind it.
I felt that Tom Sturridge’s acting was the best thing about the episode. He is extremely emotive in his body language and facial expressions as Morpheus.  You don’t see his character talk until the end of the episode and yet I could always tell what his character was thinking and feeling in every scene even without the often provided voice over narration.  I would even say that Tom Sturridge deserves an Emmy for the first episode of The Sandman.  Too bad the show won’t be eligible until the 2023 Emmy Awards.
The acting of the young man who played teenaged Alexander Burgess should not be over-looked either.  He was fantastic and very sympathetic. I very much wish that the show would deviate from the source material so that Morpheus might free Alex from his curse earlier than he does in the original version of the story.  In the original story Morpheus gets his revenge for being held prisoner by  condemning Alexander Burgess (the son of his original captor) to ”Eternal Waking” which was a nightmare that leads into yet another nightmare where he thinks he’s waking up but really he’s just entering yet another nightmare.  In this show the curse is of Eternal Sleep and we do not see what Alex is actually dreaming. I still pity him though.  He was made very sympathetic for the show.
Alex came very close to freeing Morpheus. I think he sympathized with him and may have even found Morpheus a little attractive.
Alex even offers to free Morpheus if he just promises to not harm him or Paul but Morpheus is too stubborn (and angry over the death of Jessamy) to pay attention to him.  Also Alex had previously said he’d free if not for his father and Morpheus had believed him then and Alex backed down on freeing him after his father’s death. Roderick’s Burgess’s Death is no longer a heart attack, by the way.  Now he dies after a confrontation with Alex where Alex accidentally knocks him against Morpheus’s glass cage and Roderick’s head cracks open.  I wonder how Alex managed to make that look like an accident and managed to also keep the police from entering The Undercroft.  Oh, well.  Money talks. And he was still rich.
Over a year ago some fans of “Dark fantasy” got to see a rough cut of the first episode before it was finished.  Someone on Reddit, who had seen the rough cut, complained that Alex and Paul’s homosexual relationship was too blatant and “in your face.”  It was no more blatant than in the original story. You don’t even see them kiss.  I am not sure what that person was talking about. And obviously, if this person couldn’t catch on that Alex and Paul were a couple in the original story, it probably should be more blatant than. It was always obvious to me.      The musical scoring is beautiful and haunting.  If I was to be critical of the music is that it’s deceptively whimsical when Jessamy is trying to free Morpheus.  I almost felt it was wrong for what was about to happen to her but perhaps that was the point.  We were to be thrown off guard into thinking this would be light hearted or easy and it wasn’t.  Speaking of what happens to poor Jessamy, (she gets killed by Alexander Burgess under pressure from his father), I actually saw tears in Morpheus’s eyes with what happened to poor Jessamy.
The whole scene is a deviation from the source material. Jessamy doesn’t even appear in The Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes (the first volume of The Sandman).  Her first appearance in The Sandman is in the story Thermador (Act 2 of the audio drama and in The Sandman: Fables and Reflections, which is volume 6 of The Sandman). I have mixed feelings about Jessamy being killed this way as she IS a dream entity made from the soul of a deceased human and probably should not (in my opinion) die from a shot gun blast. However it does give Morpheus more reason to seek his revenge on Alex later in the story.
The end credits feature art by Dave McKean.  Each episode will feature different art by Dave McKean on the end credits.
In general, I loved the first episode of The Sandman. It was about as faithful as the Interview with the vampire movie was to the novel.  Now as a fan of the source material I did notice a few changes that I wasn’t too thrilled with but these were minor.  The first is you do not get Morpheus audibly thinking “Soon.” Before the binding circle is breached.  This scene, in its original form, may well be the source of the famous meme.
I felt Morpheus’s confrontation with Alexander Burgess felt a bit rushed.  It lacked Morpheus explaining that time moves no differently for his kind than it does for humanity. This line felt important since many people might mistakenly think a century in captivity is nothing to someone like him.  (“Time moves no faster for my kind than it does humanity and imprisoned it crawled at a snail’s pace.”)  I think that line should have been left in there.     Another line that was chopped was when Morpheus refers to the spell that summoned and trapped him as “Petty Hedge magicking.” (Meaning weak and amateur spell casting.)  I felt that would have established his sense of ego quite well and the line is somewhat iconic to those who have read the story.
I was also a little surprised that when Morpheus finally returned to his own realm (dimension) of The Dreaming, that it is Lucienne, the loyal Librarian (I don’t understand the point of changing the spelling from Lucien) who finds him instead of Gregory The Gargoyle.  This will definitely mean there have to be changes to how the Imperfect Hosts (episode 2) story is done.  I had hoped to see him recover at The House of Mystery, being cared for by Cain and Abel.  Imagine convalescing in the care of the character equivalents of The Crypt Keeper and Vault Keeper from EC comics. I would have liked to have seen that.      The only time we see Roderick Burgess use any real magick is during the summing spell and he seems surprised that it was working.  The implication is that without the Magdalene Grimoire he has no real power, which is disappointing, because he was an actual sorcerer in the source material.  Also they changed his motivation that he now wants to resurrect his older son (the only one he actually loves).  In the original version he just wanted to capture Death for clout and power among the occult community.  I don’t really think the change was necessary.  A power mad magician should have been enough.  But he’s still as much an ass as he was in the original story.            The sets were fantastic, from The Undercroft where Morpheus was held prisoner to the manor house, which to me, felt like it should have been used in a revival of Dark Shadows for Collinwood Manor in Maine. Everything was beautifully atmospheric. The CG was decent.   The villainous escaped nightmare, The Corinthian, is shown earlier than many may have expected but I did not mind that.  He’s a good character to show early. And he also guided Roderick Burgess on how best to contain his prisoner.
After the end credits there is a teaser for the rest of the season that is very enticing and definitely has content that was not in the original story. I do like that Matthew the Raven (Morpheus’s new familiar) is shown early and even delivers a fantastic and nonchalant “F—k it.  Let’s go to Hell!” like they’ve decided to go to McDonalds for supper.  Patton Oswalt was an excellent choice to voice the character.
In general, I loved the first episode though.  I would give this show an 8 out of 10 or perhaps an 8.5 out of 10 as a rating.  Honestly, I thought the first episode was fantastic.  I hope the rest of the show is just as good and that other people give it a fair chance.

The Ferryman.
->summary: after a night of pinning after the bartender at Dionysus Bar, Desmond finds himself deep withing a most peculiar realm, and its master is happy to see him.
->Cw: alusions to death, mentions of alcohol.

Desmond Woke up incredibly cold, his extremeties feeling like two icecubes. He looks around at the cementary hes in, his breath materializes infront of him.
--What the-- his breath hitches as he sees a tall skeletal figure walk past him, they seem to almost float with a thin mist trailing behind him like the train of a dress.
The figure stops at a grave, sat Nestled between the roots of a large willow tree. Upon further inspection the trunk of the tree seeme to be rotting away. They kneel and place a red spider lily on it, and then they stand up and float silently out of the cementery.
Curious,Desmond walks up to the graves and cleans the few bits of Ice that stuck to the stone. His eyes go wide as he reads "L. Castro, beloved son, brother and great artist".
The world around him is so deathly cool, the wind blows and theres a certain sweet smell of Decay . Its a night of deep winter, nothing grows, the epitome of death, but its not depressing but rather comforting. The moonlight peeks through the heavy dark clouds in intervals, drowning the world in an almost absolute darkness.
"No...no no no" he panics, his eyes dart to the exit and the trail of light grey blueish mist that was left behind by that thing, he runs after it as silently as he can. A part of him knows better than disturb the figure he saw as he follows them.
Then,he follows them around the town, its desolate, theres mist everywhere and only moonlight filters through the heavy black clouds. Hes freezing alive,he Holds on to himself as his breath shakes.
Why is this figure so familiar? Why does he recognize the movements? The styling of the clothes is so familiar but he cant place it.
The figure moves with Grace like a dancer or a bartender on a busy night. Hes hypnotized by the swaying of their hips with every step they take. His breath hitches again, his eyes go wide a little and he forces himself to look away.
"Get a hold of yourself,Wales" he thinks, and follows them to a bar. The neon sign shines a faint light blue, theres red lillies made of the same tubing that shines red, "Hades' Bar"
The bar looks more like a Fantasy tavern mixed with gothic architecture, it standa tall in its blak wooden exterior and black iron supports.
The figure stops at the blackstone steps up the door, it lets out a silent sigh as its breath is pure frost. That explains the utter cold and ice everywhere.
They unlock the door and step in,and as they do so the dark wood door blooms with red spider lillies. Desmond hears a familiar voice call out to the figure-- Ah,Buenas Noches Decay!
Desmond managed to peak behind a Windows with its red curtains partially drawn. His breath stops.
Agent Rainbow--
He sat there, on a bar stool as the figure, Decay, goes around the counter to the mirrored shelf. And then it dawns on him, this is a distorted version of Dionysus Bar in milton heaven. And if thats Agent Rainbow, his shadow, sitting on the same spot Desmond always sat when he went to that bar, then the figure is--
--Lazaro-- he exclaimed under his breath and for a moment,Decay looks towards the Window,he doesnt see any eyes looking under the sharp shadow of the hood. But Decay just shrugs and pulls away his hood that made him look like a grim reaper.
He wears a crown with red lillies, the spikes that made the crown looked more like moth antennae rather than spikes, and at the base of each one there are smaller skulls.
Lazaro's shadow exhales that ghastly frost of a breath, the skulls of the crown exhale it too.
--oh Decay-- Agent rainbow breathes, sounding Like he was a teen in love in an overexaggerated cheesy movie-- dont you look absolutely cold and dead today
The skeletal figure laughs, it sounds like a gasping, ragged breath. Bone chilling. His black eyesockets settle on the Rainbow-- Dearest.. what are you doing in the bar before I opened it?
--I wanted to surprise you,of course!--The other Man replied, taking the skeletal hand, some of the liquid in his hand seems to freeze in a tricolor Ice, before melting-- Beside, I wanted to spend time with you before this place is packed with the dead and they steal your stone cold gaze away from me~
Desmond cringes a how cheesy it is, but Decay is into it-- Ah I see, and that prompted you to sneak into my bar?
--Yes sir--rainbow tips his hat at him.
--Hm, fine-- his skeleton mouth presses against the other Man's lips. As he does so, a gaunt face grows on the skeleton, its made out of frost and Ice. Desmonds eyes go wide as he realizes its lazaro's face.
--One day i hope my lips remain stuck on your Icey face,so I can Keep kissing you-- His shadow flirted, kissing the knuckles of the other Man.
--One day perhaps--Decay agreed--for now how about you settle for sharing a drink with me before I Open for bussiness?
--That would be splendid, my ferryman
Decay pours a double whiskey on the rocks for Agent rainbow, while he makes himself a Necromancer Martini, the same drink Lazaro drank aside from beer. The two men sit on the same side of the bar, Agent has his hand on his companion's knees as both drink, desmond has no clue how because one had no mouth and the other was a skeleton.
--Will there be a day where your counterpart finally asks mine out?--Decay asked, looking beautiful like fresh snow and elegant like glinting diamonds. He sits with such a Poise and confidence that its almost ethereal, his cold mist of icy death glimmers like snow under moonlight.
-- 'm afraid not,or at least I dont think so. I tried giving him advice and pickup lines but hes stubborn
--You can charm anyone, why wouldnt he accept your help?--Rainbow gestures at himself-- right...
--His loss-- The other Man says-- though its a shame, I really wish he finally manned up
Decay smiles somehow, his naturally cold gaze softens-- Well, Lazaro is thinking of asking him out, maybe all he needs is a kickstart
--And a big one at that--rainbow quipped, taking a big long sip of his whiskey.
--You are incorregible, 'Gent-- the skeleton said, incredible fondness and warmth in his tone.
--You love me this way
--And I wouldnt have you any other way-- decay gives his lover one last kiss and finishes his Martini.
Desmond watches as Decay gets ready for the night, picking out glasses and liquor. But what really knocks the air out of him is his shadow form.
Agent rainbow, the thing that tried to kill him multiple times, everything he hated about himself, was docile, domestic. He polished the wooden tables, fixed up the Chairs and lit up the Giant fireplace that probably made the chilly interior of the bar feel cozy and comfortable. He also figured that Decay couldnt start a Fire given he was pure chill.
--Ill come back to help you close-- Agent announced as he fixed up his fedora.
--Very well,Im guessing youre going to see blaze?
He nodds-- I Will, I hope his other boyfriend didnt steal her away for long
Decay laughs, that bone chilling laughter of the dead-- lets hope not, send my sister my regards
--Will do,Handsome -- and with that, Agent leaves the bar without looking back
Desmond sits by the entrance to the pub, hid away and out of sight. He watches blurry silhouette of enteties of light and shadow enter in conversation that sounds like radio static.
But he watches through the Window as Decay moves with Grace across the bar, smaller skeletons serve the costumers as whimsy clasical music played from an upper floor, the ghosts and skeletons playing are wearing masks and shine with a faint blue light.
As the night progresses it gets colder and colder, hes practically about to go into hypothermia when one of the souls exciting drops their cloak. Hes quick to put it on and notices that it had pocket and that there was money, some sort of iron coins.
Pulling the cloak over his head, desmond entera the bar, nobody seems to notice him and he sits in the back, watching as Decay attends the bar.
--Just a beer-- He ordered to the skeleton waiter, and he watches it leave without a Word spoken.
Its absolutely captivating to watch Decay twirl around the bar, make conversation with the souls,he walks- he floats with overflowing confidence that desmond wishes he had. He thinks it looks just like Lazaro when he works at the bar.
His beer arrives and for the remaining of the night he just watches the bar and how it behaves, its nothing like hes seen before. No other "mind realm" was as lively as this one, as if it existed between the realm of the living and the dead.
Chiron the ferry of the dead, the similarities were right there, the bar was called Hades(the name of the King of the underworld), the dead souls flowing, the skeletons, the coins that look so much like the ones used to pay the ferryman.
And of course, there was Decay himself, a skeleton King that seemed to float like a boat in the water, his energy that made the air ripe witt necromancy. If this was Lazaro's shadow, then he wondered just how much power he himself held.
Desmond leaves as the bar empties out, hoping that "Chiron" as he got to call decay now, didnt notice a living person walk amongst the dead. Maybe the cloak masked him?.
But he returns to his previous snooping place, he hides when agent rainbow comes to help him close shop. By that time it had to be before sunrise.
--Love-- Called agent, his raspy, gravelly voice is uncharacteristically soft-- 'm all done here
Decay looked up from the glass he was polishing-- splendid. I think ill leave the servants to close up.
-- Perfect-- Agent puts on his fedora and offers his arm, Decay takes it and both walk out of the Pub. They walk away leaning on eachother, the skeleton was bigger than rainbow by a lot, just like lazaro was with desmond.
Both look so in love, it makes him jealous. Both laugh and chuckle and giggle at inner jokes, they flirt and sometimes dance together under the peeking moonlight, the skeletons mist glinting Like diamonds. It looks Straight out of a movie, he hates it.
Desmond keeps a healthy distance from the pair, his mind is filled with thoughts about how he wishes that his relationshipp with Lazaro was just like that, but he knew the truth about himself,he was shy, awkward, and heavy in denial.
He never liked men- except a few times in his childhood but-- he was confused right? Then why is he so jealous? Why is he yearning for something like the relationshipp those two had? Why does it bother him that their shadows, that which they repress, are happy together. How can Agent Rainbow be together with Decay already, why cant Desmond have some of that confidence himself?
Agent parts ways with Decay at the cementery, he kisses him and whispers something about finding him in his appartment (Desmond guessed rainbow had the same appartment that he had).
He follows the skeleton Man back to that grave, but this time he makes no effort to hide.
Decay freezes the rotting Bark, another spider lily rests on the tomb. He turns and simply smiles to the best he can with his skull for a head.
--Desmond...-- He sounds..happy to see him.
--Laz- Decay -- Des replied, fixing his glasses and feeling incredibly flustered like he did when lazaro was around.
--This is most curious, what are you doing here?-- he kneels to eye level and tilts his head just the way lazaro does, it makes the Man's heart squeeze with yearning.
--I - I wish I knew-- he replied with a nervous chuckle, looking away-- I uhm ..didnt know you existed
-- I do-- the skeleton agrees--Its good to see you, though. --his voice fills with the same warmth it has when he speaks to rainbow, desmonds breath hitches and hes taken back. Was he really using that tone with him?.
--Oh..I uhm. Yeah I havent been to the bar in a while
--Yeah, i- he- he misses you--Decay confessed, cupping the Mans cheek and making him look into his eye sockets.
His frost breath fogs up his glasses, and desmond feels like hes going to die from how fast his heart was beating. The skeletal hand is deathly cool...but soft.
--O-oh..-- its all the therapist replies, enamored by the feeling of what he guessed was the skeletons gaze. Its overwhelming, filled with love and...yearning. yearning for Desmond and nobody else. Was this Decay or Lazaro himself?.
--Come by sometime-- begged the shadow form, genuine hurt in his voice.
They go quiet, both of them, all they hear is the whistling wind and the rustling of dead trees. He looks at the rotting tree and he feels...
Decay looks too,and sighs. The Ice keeps the rot from spreading, a short term solution but not permanent.
Desmond looks into the rotting willow tree, he feels overwhelmed with burnt out, with exhaustion, with a deep desire of realese, of yearning for the pain to end.
--Nurse him back to health. Please-- Decay Begged once more-- this garden...my- our garden is rotting. -- his skeletal hand moves to his chin, his face frosting over into a human one ,gaunt but still drop dead gorgeus.
And desmond, for once, doesnt fight it. He leans in, hands reaching for his cloak. And then....
Hes awake, in bed, glasses thrown haphazardly on the nightstand. He turns, heart Racing and almost beating out of his chest, his body feels warm as hes flustered.
But his eyes catch the sigh of something red on the other side of the bed, long time since it has been last occupied by someone, a loved one or a partner.
There, on the pillow is a Red Spider lily. The pillow feels deathly cool to the touch, and looking at the flower he tries to steady his breath.
The realm of the dead would call to him, its master, chiron, the skeleton King, Decay, would demand his presence, and who was he to say no to the ferryman?

He was in the shower, water running down his body. With a trembling hand, he touched his naked chest. His fingers moved over old scars and two huge holes in place of nipples. With his eyes tracing the movement of his hand.
Melancholy got to him, he thought how carefree it was before the appearance of these scars. The grim full of pain expression on his face and the slight disgust suggested that although the wounds were old, they had never healed.

In his thoughts, like a looped record, were the words, , "I will never be broken,". Milton tried to believe this, sometimes lying to himself, he fell for lack of strength, because, after all, no one is perfect.
Was he such a terrible pathetic asshole? Or was it just a defensive shield. His black eyes continued to watch the wreck of a man in the mirror, so much like him and a stranger. -I'm not a monster, I'm just lost. (Bitterness was crawling out of his mouth)
