I used to love BBC Sherlock so fucking much when I was like fourteen or something and it kinda got me into the Sherlock Holmes universe so when I watched the finale I was actually legitimately overjoyed because omigod fucking god they're living together no wives or girlfriends and raising a baby together and the whole finale was about Sherlock rescuing John. I thought everyone perceived it as canon Johnlock but then I found out how violently homophobic the actors and everyone involved in the production of the show were post finale. And how derisive the straight fans were, it was a specific brand of potent hostility I'd never encountered before up until then and have never seen since in such intensity. The thing is I still maintain bbc johnlock was not even queerbait, it was just textbook gaslighting at that point. They made a pair canonically queer then called us every name under the sun for seeing that it was queer. Anyway that was just one facet of it that made the show age badly to me.

I also hate shows with a white male protagonist who uses his " neurodivergent genius intellect" as an excuse to be an absolutely garbage person, because it attracts a specific kind of male demographic that try to emulate this condescend whilst completely missing the irony of the purposeful character flaw.

Despite everything I did love that show with my whole heart as a kid, and I missed it so much, I loved Andrew Scott's camp as fuck Moriarty, Lara Pulvers Irene made me go wELL fuCk If I wasn't Gay BeFoRe. But after everything that particular adaptation has perhaps permanently soured for me. I hoped one day I could go back to it without wincing at the scene where John hits Sherlock because he blames him for Mary's death because I read some sort of meta internalised homophobia into it. But I realised even though I'm grateful to bbc johnlock for making me fall in love with the ship it's just an adaptation. There's millions of better ones out there, bbc doesn't have be an end all be all and I've also only read one acd canon book. So not all is lost and maybe I will go back to Johnlock just not through that door.

Another unpopular opinion: I might be one of the very few here who absolutely loathes anything I have seen from the original scripts of Sherlock circulating around. I find them HORRIBLE, so 1) I am really glad they didn’t make it to the final scenes, 2) I hate them so much that I am even desperate enough to hypothesise they are fake additions to sway fans, even though there is no reason for that let’s be real, 3) it makes me think that I have given Moftiss way too many benefits of the doubt as it turns out the ending product came out the way it did out of a combo of the actors’ common sense and sheer luck and 4) at least we can be thankful it took Moftiss until the fourth season to indulge in themselves fully. Thank goodness.

But the deleted scripts especially from TSOT…. I now get why Freeman considered that script bullshit. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was the one to throw the first draft in their faces and be like “do it again or I am outta here”

And of course I say this as a Johnlock and Sheriarty shipper, although many people apparently were into these scripts….

I wanted violet hunter in BBC Sherlock so badly because John did say there might be a chance of romance there however I'd rather not put this idea into moftiss because they'd probably make her Moriarty's sister, who's eurus's lover turning straight because my GAWD she saw Sherlock Holmes as Rosie's daddy. And make her text him daddy like they did with let's have dinner.

As someone who read Dracula once a year ago (casually), I’m not going to pretend I completely understand what’s going on about the whole Dracula Daily thing. What actually is it? Is it like an inside joke thing that isn’t a joke? A secret book club?

I may only have a small knowledge of the basic plot of Dracula, but I am enjoying all the random posts about it and trying to create some understanding around it. It’s probably not correct but so far I imagine Dracula is like this emo guy (most likely queer-coded and autistic-coded, it’s not a classic if the main character isn’t gay and autistic) who reads train time tables in his spare time. There’s this Jonathan Harker who is so fucking oblivious to Dracula running around the house pretending to be the different servants. Did Dracula convince him to stay awake at night? And he agreed without question?

I don’t know but he’s blorbo material.

Dracula and Jonathan Harker are like.......I don’t know if it was a shitpost but are they dating? I think I’ve made that up.

Jonathan Harker is a solicitor and he’s got a girlfriend, I think.

Personally, I read more queer-coded detective stories than queer-coded (allegedly) vampire stories but it sounds fun I feel like I’m missing out. Also I appreciate how both Sherlock Holmes and Dracula were both adapted into BBC shows by Moftiss to....queerbait people.
