I actually want to discuss in-depth the Molly kills Hannibal idea cuz it has some really fun potential for a series ending. It makes sense okay. She kills the Dragon in the books, why can’t she kill Hannibal Lector? I don’t think it would be easy and she would have to be driven to it. She would have to also become a monster and that is kinda beautiful.

(ALSO- please this is just an idea I had months ago and have been sitting with for awhile. Idgaf if this “ruins” Hannigram for you, stay mad) (if you have ACTUAL constructive criticism please share, I’m willing to be wrong)

When she kills Francis in the book it is to persevere her and her son’s lives. She has to protect them and nobody else can. He chases them into their house and she shoots him four times in the face, she didn’t go easy on him and that’s pretty bad ass. This aspect of her character shouldn’t just disappear in the show.

Her character in the show also doesn’t just go away. Her and Will are STILL MARRIED. Their relationship is significant even if Will chooses Hannibal over her in the end. She would probably be a tether to Will’s humanity post-fall which is dangerous for Hannibal. There would be a great benefit in Molly dying. Will would have to either destroy Hannibal and himself or Molly to relieve himself of the love and pain that her existence would bring him. The comfort and love she brought him still exists. Even though she gets shot by the dragon and is changed, that love and warmth hasn’t changed. Now Will is unable to have that and it would be something to rectify. He would have to eat her.

I imagine post-fall Will and Hannibal would be slowly eating their way through the cast starting obviously with Bedelia. The whole point of Hannibal wanting to eat Will was to satiate his love for him so for Will to eat Molly would be to codify his love for her and have the ability to move on with Hannibal. If they went after her I don’t think she’d play into their game and she could potentially be the only character that could actually kill them from her own sheer power to stay alive + not caring for either of their bullshit. Molly hasn’t even met Hannibal so she wouldn’t be blind to his hospitality and charm. She would see right through this polite demeanour.

If they took her or something she would have to decide whether or not to keep Will alive. Post-fall Will would be operating completely under Hannibal’s influence through manipulation. If there was even a spark of humanity left in Will, I think Molly would want to save him. The real question is can she save him? He would be incredibly dangerous and the choice to save him might not be possible. If Will lives and Hannibal dies the cycle that Hannibal created would still exist. (Hannibal Lector still has agency in the world if Will Graham is alive!) If she does kill Will it would be in her best interest to survive even if it would be painful. She never stops loving him after he leaves her. She would see who he is completely and maybe that would be comforting to know that he has become a monster, that the man she loved doesn’t exist anymore. The only thing left for him is death and she would be able to bring that to him, her last act of love. She could finally free him from Hannibal.

I think it’s fun to have Molly kill Hannibal as an ending. It’s a characteristic they would finally have in common. I’ve seen people compare Molly and Hannibal mostly on their physical appearance but I think they both serve a similar purpose to Will. They both love him unconditionally and are willing to do a lot for him. If Hannigram went after Molly she would have no choice but to fight and she’d probably enjoy getting to kill Hannibal. He took away a lot from her and sent the dragon after her family, that’s not something you just get over. HE STOLE HER HUSBAND. I think it’s the type of revenge that Hannibal would revel in and not that I think he’d be happy to die but I think he’d be amused to die at Molly’s hand. Also pissed. Obviously.

I just think Molly deserve a righteous ending. Even if this doesn’t make sense within the narrative of the show or whatever was supposed to happen post-fall but I think thematically it’s a fun idea.

Sometimes i just sit down and think for a while about Bella and Molly. Like. Man!! In some ways, they’re almost exactly alike- Hannibal is so deeply ingrained in both of these women’s lives and marriages, despite how the connective tissue isn’t even meant to span to them in the first place. They’re used almost as a means to an end! They were caught in the mix. Bella because Jack is the director of the BAU, and even further Will’s boss. Molly because, well. She’s Will’s wife, and Hannibal is an incredibly jealous and possessive person. Like, to an unreal degree.

Of course, Bella’s cancer itself obviously can’t at all be read to be a byproduct of Hannibal’s actions (as the dragon’s attack on Molly *definitely* can), it’s just circumstance. But, how Hannibal flips a coin against Bella’s suicide could be considered a direct narrative foil of Molly’s situation. Sure, arguments can be made for if Hannibal did or did not intend for Molly to survive the Dragon breaking into her home, but it still stands that she survives purely on her own wit- having herself sent Will away, she’s completely within her own agency in those scenes. Will’s not even an influence at all, and Hannibal obviously can’t play such an active role from his jail cell! Even being used as a means to an end to draw Will closer to Hannibal, she has a very active hand in her survival of that situation! It’s not terminal, and there is so many ways something could have gone wrong for either Molly or Walter as the Dragon approached.

Bella’s near suicide, on the other hand, is the complete opposite- her health is rapidly deteriorating, her husband is willingly absent chasing what could practically be called a shadow on the wall, and the ending is always going to be the same; she will die. She’s been dead since the beginning. So, for her. the question is who’s hand it will be! The thing growing in her lungs, or her own?? Death is inevitable, here- so, she overdoses in Hannibal’s office. Bella’s suicide, to her, was a means of freedom; saving herself the slow suffering she was set to endure, and the indignity of those around her (especially Jack) watching it. ‘Remember me as I was, not what I have become.’ But it doesn’t work! Hannibal tosses up a coin on her survival, playing an extremely active role in it- on a whim, he completely decides to pull away her agency and reverse her overdose. Used as a playing card for Jack and Hannibal’s game (alongside Will and Hannibal’s, if you zoom out a bit). Both of them are unwilling participants.

Of course, there’s more than a few discrepancies here. Molly never met Hannibal, and until (presumably) the very end he was nothing more than a shadow hanging over the wall of Will’s life. Bella was Hannibal’s patient and spent multiple sessions speaking on the matter of her life (and eventual death) with him. Jack and Will are obsessive over Hannibal, but Jack was trying to let go of him in season 3a, stating that he only went to italy to follow Will, not chase Hannibal. But Will never let go, not really.

THAT IS THE SAME SMILE. THAT IS HUGH DANCY'S ROMCOM SMILE AND I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES IN THE WAY HUGH PRESENTS IT FOR EACH MOMENT.

First of all, the moment presented in the first gif is why I believe Will did love Molly. Yes, I'm a firm believer that Will still held feelings for Hannibal while he was with Molly, but I don't think she was a placeholder. The way I think Will's love for Hannibal and Molly works at the same time is like when you meet a widower who remarried.

Yes the widower (Will) still loves his first spouse (Hannibal), and it's terrible that they were ripped apart the way they were, but he can eventually move on. And he loves his new spouse (Molly), but there will always be a part of his heart that belongs to his first spouse. Except in the case of this analogy Hannibal isn't actually dead and he will come back.

And I mean, honestly, if the love of your life died and came back completely in one piece and still loved you after years of separation, what would you do? Would you tell them to move on because you've found someone else that you love almost as much as you loved them? Or would you discard your new spouse for the one you had always imagined you'd stay with? It's a really difficult decision.

But anyway I do wanna analyze these smiles. Obviously in the second gif Will is smiling at Hannibal, but in the first gif, Will is smiling at Jack while talking about Molly. They're the same smile but they're also so different.

In the first gif, the "romcomness" of the smile almost feels exaggerated. It's the way he smiled and kind of laughed but especially it's the way he broke eye contact. He breaks eye contact but the smile stays. It says "Molly and I can't see each other completely, but I'm happy enough." It reads as coy in a way we know Will Graham is not. It's a performance, but it's a performance based on a truth.

On the other hand, in the second gif, Will's smile is there but more subdued. Of course it could be just that he's tired and/or in pain as he's obviously injured, but to me it's lesser because it's just him and Hannibal. He doesn't need to wear his mask for Jack or for Molly or for anyone else. And he keeps eye contact with Hannibal even as his smile falls away because he and Hannibal can see each other. They accept the good (the smile) and the bad (the loss of the smile) in each other but that's okay for them because they're true to each other like they are to no one else.

The way Will smiles at Hannibal in the second gif is so much more intimate than the way he smiled about Molly in the second gif, and I can't help but wonder: if we got more scenes where Will and Molly were interacting face to face (because let's be honest there's not many), would Will smile the same way he did in the second gif? Would he even smile at her the same way he does talking about her in the first gif, or is that just him trying to appear like the happy/satisfied husband in front of company? I know Will loved Hannibal, and I know Will loved Molly, but these two gifs side by side just confirm for me that what he felt for Hannibal was so much more impactful for Will than his love for Molly.
