#i've made this disclaimer on another post but will again since i've seen a lot more of the movies now #the movies are VERY good and very enjoyable but unfortunately the first handful are bogged down by transphobic/homophobic/okama stereotypes #they kind of vary in their severity. Movie 5 i think is the biggest catalyst because it features the stereotyped characters the most #prominently. Movie 3 doesnt really have caricatures per se but saves a very backhanded reveal for the end #Movies 1 and 4 are a bit more tolerable if my memory is correct. Movie 2 i think is kind of comparable to Movie 5 with its caricatures #in that the characters have similar roles in both movies #i admittedly can't remember what caricatures there were in Movie 6 or 7. 7 i think barely had anything #RAMBLE RAMBLE BASICALLY: these jokes are within the first 7 movies or so 5 being the zenith then reducing down and down. by movie 8 it's sa #e #i give these disclaimers because these movies are all very enjoyable and i would not recommend them if i didnt think there wasnt any merit #o them. they are all very much worth watching. Aight, as someone who makes a lot of characters buffer when I draw them, I get why so many people in this fandom want to bulk up Xie Lian, but here's the thing:

The man doesn't eat. He's got a mortal body, and he canonically has wack eating habits (like, to the point I'm pretty sure Hua Cheng expresses concern about it book 5). How's the man supposed to be bulking up when he doesn't eat? (Also like... some people just don't get bulging muscles. Doesn't mean they're any less strong, it's just not immediately visible. Even during his first ascension, he was described as feminine looking to the point some people forgot he was a martial god, so I wouldn't be surprised if he fell into that category)

Anyways, unrelated, but I think it'd be nice if he got a slight tummy post canon. Let trash grandpa enjoy good food and retirement

I just have to remind myself sometimes that no matter what anyone else says, the way a piece of media makes me feel and the positive impact it has had on my queer identity is valid, and that tearing myself apart thinking I have to defend it or questioning my own place within queer communities is not at all important when compared to the almost tangible sense of 'rightness' that piece of media helped me to feel about myself.

#just something i've been pondering the last few days #kind of like no matter how much people debate or i suppose theoretically deconstruct media featuring queer stories #the most important thing is how it makes a queer person feel #and I do think it is of course a good thing to ensure queer stories are executed with respect and authenticity #but there's this grey area in fandom spaces in which people may have found rep from a 'unreliable' source i suppose #or something which is queerbaiting- sherlock springs to mind for example yet if people have been able to explore and nurture their own #queerness through that media does that therefore mean their experience is invalid? i don't think so #and my worry is the more we focus on theory the less we focus on emotion and therefore the actual queer experience itself #and sure theory can inform the queer experience and ensure the media is a 'healthy' site of queer identity formation and identity aid #but at the same time scorning or being rude to those who have found certain media an aid is not the right approach to be taking #especially as queer experiences are so wide ranging that one person's idea of 'good' representation is someone's else's of 'bad' #and that unless a piece of media is clearly offensive in its portrayal of queer experience there has to be some benefit of doubt #I think we're still in a period of progression in media espc tv where queer creators are coming to the fore of their own stories #and we've got to 'live and let live' a little about where people are finding sights of queer validation and joy #and perhaps this a naive and simplistic way of thinking but i think queer people can either recognise when something isn't the best rep #but was helpful for them anyway and therefore in a way confer 'ownership' of the media to themselves in how they engage #or there is variety in queer experiences represented in media so that perhaps not everyone finds a 'site' of rep but that does not #therefore invalidate it or make it 'bad' representation #this is just my opinion and it'd be hypocritical for me to not now mention this is only formed from my own queer experience lol #so i'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel or anything just something i'm pondering

Love creators that understand that intimacy ≠ sexual moments. Cuz you can make content that’s just sex sex sex and action action and yeah it’ll get people to consume your stuff because of the “woah that’s crazy” factor but I feel like content depicting intimacy or the quiet but important moments between people, while less likely to get butts in seats, will leave a lasting mark on the people who’ve witnessed it.

I feel like that’s what gets people to reread and rewatch stuff like Normal People, Fleabag, The Raven Cycle, and Lore Olympus (among other things). I want more of that tbqh

byler endgame in ep 7 makes sense… also remember there weren’t any byler/Cali scenes in 4x07, making it the only episode in st4 to not have a scene with them. They also had Mike holding a 7up can facing the camera dramatically during their heart-to-heart at the junkyard in 4x05… It all adds up and makes sense that they would finally be officially canon in 5x07 to really fit the consistency with byler and the number 7 over the whole series.

Not to say they won’t have special moments all season though! I know a lot of Bylers would love for them to be together by 5x03 and for the rest of the season to be established fluff but… byler is textbook slow burn which means it’ll be either second to last or last episode. I’m just grateful it’s the former 😅😭

I know an OC's background isn't always going to be consistent or concrete and that's fine! But do you ever have ideas that you either A) didn't have time to work on, B) found too complex to incorporate into their lore, or C) feel like it just didn't fit in based on the standards of whatever universe (canon or original) your OC is in? Or perhaps a secret fourth option, I dunno!

#Hehe I'll start ofc beware the tags are lengthy and plenty hehehe #But as far as I remember I had a bunch of convoluted ideas for Madison's background #The most notable one being that she was an android who had a human soul trapped inside her and was such when she came into the events of SDC #Died at a very young age from an accident that had her in the hospital but her father managed to somehow scrounge up the core of her soul #Said soul was then booted up into an empty android which then became sentient #BUT limited in its physical features since it was the 70-80s and that her father worked in some hidden department in the government #Her father brought 'her' home and her mother grew suspicious of how different her daughter has been acting- #-Unaware that her body is actually gone and all that is left of her is her soul and memories #I was also going to incorporate some concept of a time loop but like a long loop if it makes sense? #Like a week loop of how the 'android' Madison is brought home and her mother and brother are suspicious #Said mother and brother are horrified knowing that she is no longer who she was because all that she *is* left is her soul... #am i making sense SJDKKSKDKS probably not but the huge inspiration for this idea comes from the indie game Mothered which i LOVED #you should defo try watching an LP of it!! #The plot revolves around the MC's soul and her family and the terrible but sad fate that the mother has to go through- #-to keep seeing her daughter be forced into the vessel of an android and live with them #even when they know that their daughter will never be the same again #I still kept the aspect of angst within the family but translated it through a more digestible concept #(at least I hope it is when I share more of it with posts in the future ( ´Д｀)=3) #I also wanted to use aspects of amnesia where Madison gets complacent into living with her mother as an android- #-bc as soon as she finds out that she is no longer who she is the system inside the android tries to erase said memories #And that she'll only regain them when she finds that her biological name isn't Madison but is actually Rhonda #NDKDKSKD LIKE THATS A WEIRD EXPLANATION where I got more of that inspo from a song by The Scary Jokes but eh!! #The amnesia and soul explanation plot just doesn't work for me! #ALSO i got inspired by the jojo fangame 7SU and wanted to incorporate the concept of the time loop too- #-with how in one universe we get the canon ending and in another universe after pucci resets the world #so Madison have more knowledge on what's going to happen to the crusaders #and manages to save all or most of them #Too convoluted and honestly not as fun to think about if anything it stays as a fun scrapped idea #Luckily i figured out a way to make it somewhat easier to achieve that 'everyone lives-no one dies' scenario in my lore now wahoo 🕺💃 #sorry for the typos and grammar errors just correct them in your head lolol
