I feel bad that I don't really have much interest in doing dazatsu art myself, even though I like seeing the arts* of them from others. I feel like I'm being hypocritical of it.

So I was reading back through @zinder-fox 's fic open my eyes to everything (there must be something more.)

Which, side note highly recommend. It's a Dazatsu time travel fic. Essentially, when Atsushi and Akutugawa fuse abilities for the first time, Atsushi accidentally breaks time and space.

As you do.

And ends up 6 years in the past, complete with breaking the door to Dazai's shopping container.

As you do.

It's about Atsushi trying to figure this new life out knowing he can never return. And trying to prevent as much chaos as he can, while causing more chaos.

We've reached when Shibusawa is going to try and get the tiger from 12 year old Atsushi.

And it got me thinking about the whole thing with that in canon. I refuse to believe that the Headmaster wasn't aware of what Shibusawa was doing.

Atsushi is watched carefully and around the clock by the staff. And if the staff aren't, the kids immediately snitch on him and stuff.

I can't imagine a scenario where something like this went under wraps.

And even if it did, someone had to have found Atsushi and the dead body of Shibusawa surrounded by all this equipment... And an electric chair.

I think the Headmaster was informed of Shibusawa's goal and allowed it. Maybe he figured it would kill Atsushi for good or would relieve them all of the beast forever.

One way or another.

There's a definite shift in the Headmasters actions. He goes from trying to kill Atsushi multiple times, almost succeeding but now he's trying to keep him alive... Somethings not adding up.

And I think this incident and failure is the the moment things changed. And I imagine Fyodor was involved.

Because they didn't keep Atsushi here for the goodness of they're heart. And Fyodor does know about the place, maybe he placed him there.

I'm curious to see where this fic takes this. If the description sounds interesting, do check it out.

I gotta say this isn't what I expected your wip naming habits to be but I love it afjkskhgk now I'm trying to figure out the patterns, some are starting with a d (is it for dazai's pov?), some with an underscore hmm. if you'd like to share, then I guess I'm the most curious about d-hana casue out of all titles this one seems to say the least about possible contents!

honestly you give me too much credit, the names are only the proof of my laziness. the ones that start with d are dazatsu ones, not necessarily Dazai's POV. I had started putting 'dazatsu' in full, then a few years later I was like meh I couldn't be bothered. and I'd know 'd' means a dazatsu one. So the ones that 'dazatsu' in full are some really old drafts, from before 2020.

Underscores: google drive will automatically sort your files in alphabetic order and I'm like. I have these *new* ideas i'm excited about and I need to see these oNES ON TOP WITHOUT HAVING TO SORT THE FILES MANUALLY OR CHANGE A SETTING. BECAUSE. I. COULDN'T. BE. BOTHERED. Then every new idea for the past 2 years got an underscore lol. I guess that's part of why I find coming with titles for fics such a daunting task :/

Now for d-hana: this is why it's important to pre-establish I'm lazy af with naming stuff. hana here is short for hanahaki, because I didn't want to write it in full. I have already written a dazatsu hanahaki fic where Atsushi is the one who gets sick. This one is where Dazai gets sick and I'm like cracking my fingers thinking of all the ways I will make him hopeless and dumb and in love evil laugh but! I write a snail pace. And I can only start this one after I finish another 2 other fics I'm halfway through 😭

My opinion on bsd ships so you know me better ig

Soukoku - My love, my life, my happiness. You will catch me reading fics of this ship

Shin Soukoku - It's nice, but it's a bit slow burn. If that makes sense? I love the art though

Ranpoe - Adorable. I look at the art and cry tears of happiness. I want them to be happy together

Dazatsu - I'm not against you for shipping it, but I don't ship it myself. I prefer these two to be platonic, rather than romantic

Kunizai - Amazing. Beautiful. I love it. You will catch me looking at everything I can find of these two

Odazai - Eh. I don't ship it, and it's not something I want to see. Platonic is fine, but romantic is not something I'd like to look at

Fyolai - Delicious. Perfect. I love it, and I ship it. I don't look at this ship as much as others, but I still look at stuff from it

Fyozai - Sure, why not? I ship it, but I rarely look at stuff from it

Fukumori - Mixed emotions. I don't know. It's like a cake that's so unbearable to look at, but tastes fine

Dazaku - No. Platonic is eh. Romantic is no. I don't look at this ship, and don't plan on it

Souheki - I ship it. I barely look at anything to do with this ship, but it is nice. I'm not a hater

Odango - Yes. I will inhale this ship if given the opportunity to

Nikozai - Why? I don't ship it, but it's okay, I guess

Suegiku - I'd ship it if I saw more stuff of them. I barely interact with this ship, but I'm not against it in any form

Mushipoe - No thanks. I don't hate it, but I don't like it that much

Ranpoguri - Also a no. Again, I don't hate it. It's just not for me

Steincraft - I have practically never interacted with this ship. I don't hate it, and am willing to look at it more

Chuuaku - Not for me. I see them as friends, not as romantic interests. Platonic is fine, and I'd prefer it over romantic

Chuuran - This is fine. I barely see it, but I don't hate it

Kuniran - I don't hate it, but I don't ship it personally

Kunikatai - This is lovely. I will eat this ship if I can. I want to see more of this ship, even if I barely interact with it

Doppoe - Why? Ship it if you want, but I just don't see it. This is not for me

Dazango - No. I don't like it. Platonic is eh, romantic is a no for me

Sigzai - It's alright. I know Sigma doesn't have a canon age, even though he was made from the book three years ago. I see the art, it's cute, but I prefer platonic over romantic

Welp I didn't draw anything in previous or this week. Sorry for that!

I've been busy with other stuff and soon I'll have my first exams, hopefully after it I'll start working on my ocs birthday project and maybe I'll draw some dazatsu stuff! I'm saying maybe because I'm not really in the mood doing dazatsu stuff only to keep you interested here. So yeah! That's it!

In other news!! Im falling into wip hell aha. I have a multi chapter soukoku fic that I said I won't post until I finish chapter 4 but im stuck in the first paragraph of chapter 3. My dazatsu oneshot has promise but every time I open it my brain goes no I wanna work on that other thing actually. I have come up with like three different ranpoe fics that im resisting working on because two are follow up fics and the third is one of the fics being followed up on but its also gonna be super long so I dont want to worry about it rn.

Im also still working on that dazai centric vent fic but it's slow going because working on it makes my brain say ouch because im reliving stuff but I swear im gonna get through it. To appease my upset brain I sometimes take breaks on it to write a follow up hurt comfort soukoku fic that is very nice so there's that too.

I've fully been ignoring this one soukoku fic I started ages ago simply because its brain rot around a specific song and im just not in the mood to listen to that song rn.

Okay! My fic update rambling is done now! Thanks for reading, and sorry for being a very slow writer aha. Hopefully I can get inspired and just power through finishing something soon. Until then, feel free to read my two existing ranpoe fics <3

I am glad for the valuable service you render to the fandom. People who sincerely consider this a rabid 'anti blog' make me laugh. Instead you're providing crirical thinking to the BSD fandom, which should come naturally to those who are really invested in it, but such practical views are surprisingly lacking in 90% of this fandom.

Anyways, tho i dont agree with just 2 - 3 of your points - i agree with many many of them. Thank you for having eyes and noticing the obvious red flags in Dazai's behaviour. Lol I still ship Dazatsu for certain stuff, but earlier when I was in a bad place someone pointing out its toxic aspects ruined my mood. But now im in a good place and mentally tough, so I realise that this toxicity will actually give Atsushi incredible, very important character growth where he learns to stand up for himself, be wary of red flags and become independent and find actual beneficial people to rely on.

I don’t mind answering publically, especially since this touches on a subject I’d like to cover here. 

I really do appreciate this ask, but I don’t have any problem with people who disagree with the Anti-Dazai Series.

I just wanna make it clear — this blog is only my opinion, not a moral standpoint. I don’t consider it right or wrong to agree or disagree with the takes I post here, and there are more than one valid way of interpreting a character. Of course, I agree wholeheartedly with everything I post, but it really is just a matter of opinion. 

So long as someone can cite the sources [in this case, quote the manga I guess] to back up their viewpoint, it’s 100% legit and valid. And to be honest, I don’t think it would be too difficult to make a valid case in Dazai’s favor. I’d go as far as to say that I can easily make a “Pro-Dazai Blog”, where I’d show the most positive interpretation of all of Dazai’s actions. Sure I’d disagree with it all, but I doubt it would be too difficult to make.

And to touch on the subject of shipping: I’m not into shipping, and don’t ship anything from any fandom (I’m more into found family dynamics than ships). But I don’t consider it wrong to ship something that would be toxic or dysfunctional irl— the whole point of shipping is to explore two characters’ dynamics if they were in a relationship, right? I don’t really see a problem with people going “hey what would these two be like together? Oh, they’d mentally and emotionally destroy each other? Neat.”

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll say it as many times as I can: The media you consume isn’t a moral standpoint*. If you wanna see what it would be like for certain characters to be in a relationship and you go read some fanfiction of it, you’re not a horrible person if the relationship is bad. I mean, my main is a Classic Lit/ Shakespeare blog. Obviously it’s not full of posts about characters in happy, functional relationships. 

[*Nuance!! There are exceptions but I don’t feel like getting into them right now!]

Anyway. Sorry if this came off as critical. I don’t mean any of this directed at you specifically, I just wanted to make my stance on this stuff clear.

Dazai Holiday Week Day 2

May or may not have written a small thing for Dazai holiday week bc I’m secretly a sap uh

Mistletoe // Dazatsu

(Or, Dazai tells Atsushi what mistletoe is for)

(Sorry I didn’t do day 1)

Atsushi didn’t try to hold back the yawn escaping his mouth. He felt snug and comfortable, all wrapped up into a thick coat — it had cost him quite a bit, but he had bought it last winter and it was still has good as new, which was a feat, considering the amount of people who had attacked him while he was wearing it.

“I’m glad we’re finally finished with this case,” he said. “I can’t wait to be back at the office — Naomi-chan said she was preparing some hot chocolate.”

“Drinking hot chocolate is a terrible idea, Atsushi-kun!” Dazai asked, throwing his arms around. “Chocolate is toxic to cats—“

“I’m not a cat!”

“—so you should give it all to me instead!” 

“No.”

“I’m trying to save your life!”

“Have you considered not doing that?”

“How can you be so mean to me, Atsushi-kun!” Dazai threw himself at Atsushi, arms wrapping around his shoulders, and Atsushi stifled a laugh.

“Come one, Dazai-san, we’re almost there. You can always ask Naomi-chan to make you more hot chocolate — or steal Kunikida-san’s.”

The suggestion seemed to calm him down, and Dazai straightened himself up, fixing his scarf — dying of cold was too long and painful for him to appreciate, and besides he wouldn’t want to do that in front of Atsushi. “That’s a great idea, actually!” he said brightly. “I’ll tell him it’s yours.”

“You wouldn’t!” 

“Who knows?”

They stopped at the stairs leading up to the agency office, and Dazai looked up. “Looks like Naomi-chan persuaded the president to let her do some decorating again this year.”

The door was adorned with a Christmas crown, a deep green speckled with red and white. It had been pinned to the middle of the door so it didn’t bother anyone trying to walk in. The windows, outside the office, were also decorated with brightly coloured — with soft blue and silver and indigo — garlands.

“It looks so beautiful,” Atsushi said, pushing the door open. “They did a great job with it.”

He was smiling as he said it, his eyes taking in every decoration he could. Christmas was still new to Atsushi, and these days nothing delighted Dazai more than seeing Atsushi get starry eyed at things like festive decorations, snowmen and outdoor ice skating rinks.

Once in the corridor, Dazai added, speaking louder: “The case was awful, I didn’t even die!”

“Welcome back,” Naomi greeted, emerging from the kitchen and following them to the main office. “Do you like the decorations?” Her smile turned razor sharp. “I had my brother help.”

“Yes! Everything looks great!” 

“Aaah, thank you Atsushi-kun! You’re so sweet, unlike someone,“ she pouted, glancing at the office.

“The promise of hot drinks seems to fix your punctuality issues,” Kunikida said dryly, looking up from his desk, a steaming mug sitting next to him. 

He raised an eyebrow as Dazai passed his head through the main office’s door, waving at him. “And for the record, I only said that the mistletoe was too much. We don’t need mistletoe, we need coherency in colour palettes and decoration choices!”

Next to Atsushi, Dazai stopped dead in his track. Oblivious to it, Atsushi stopped right next to him to him and asked: “Mistletoe? What for?”

“You don’t know about mistletoe?”

Atsushi smiled sheepishly. “Sorry…”

“Well, we didn’t put any up last years — that was your first Christmas, right?” Dazai said. He ruffled Atsushi’s hair, and the boy let out a half hearted protest. “Weeeelll you see…” Dazai looked like the cat that just caught the canary, and he leaned down a bit. “The tradition says that two people who meet under a mistletoe must kiss.”

He pointed a finger up, and Atsushi’s eyes followed it. His face reddened — hung just above their heads was a bit a mistletoe, careful attached above the doorway “You have to be kidding me.”

“No, he’s telling the truth.” Kunikida pinched the bridge of his nose. “Now get on with it, you two have a report to write.”

So maybe Dazai was a bit too happy at the idea of getting a kiss from Atsushi — but it wasn’t like the younger man would notice. He was wide-eyed, blushing and apparently trying to work himself into doing the kissing.

Cute.

He pushed a finger against in own cheek. “Just a peck, Atsushi-kun!”

“You really want me to—?”

He doubted Atsushi would want to give him a proper kiss, so just a small one would have to do. And if he said no, then, Dazai would just tease him a bit and leave it at that. All good. Foolproof plan.

“Of course!”

“Okay, then…”

Wait, what?

Atsushi pushed himself up on his tiptoes, pulling Dazai’s finger from his face, his own hands cupping it gently. Then his lips were on Dazai’s, in a kiss that was soft and warm and everything Dazai figured it would be.

When he pulled back, Dazai got a good look at his flushed face, and all he wanted was to kiss Atsushi again.

“I guess I really wanted to kiss Dazai-san, too.”

He wrapped an arm around Atsushi’s waist, holding him close, and did, actually, kiss him again.
