this is for my beloved @nakizumie happy international rie day╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

iwaizumi wakes up extra early to brew you coffee on your birthday

not that he usually doesn’t (cause by now it’s part of his morning routine) but today’s a sunday and it’s your birthday and although he’ll never admit it, he’s somehow convinced that the earlier you brew coffee the better it tastes.

he’s careful not to wake you, cause he knows you’ve been busy with work and school. medical textbooks, both yours and his, are scattered throughout the apartment: there’s one on the coffee table in the living room, another two and a couple of notebooks on his desk, some other is on the kitchen counter. he tries to tidy up a little here and there, smiling at the doodles decorating the margins of your notebooks, but he only has so much time to make you breakfast before you realize he’s not next to you.

he makes you waffles, quietly, lovingly, mixing his affection into the batter and cooking them until they’re as golden as the sunshine you bring into his life. because before these blissful mornings with you, all iwaizumi knew was dull routine.

you threw him off track with snorted laughter and whispered “bros,” until he was nothing but smitten: willing to sacrifice his morning runs for a couple of extra minutes with you in bed, risking being late to his lectures if it only meant being able to walk you to yours, lending you his textbooks and letting you map out anatomical diagrams on his skin with dry-erase markers to help you study for your exams. the once reserved iwaizumi hajime is now completely and utterly wrapped around your finger, and he’s willing to stay there until the day he has enough savings to put an actual ring around it.

so because of this, because he loves you, he wakes you up in all of his morning, shirtless glory on your birthday, with a tray of freshly made waffles and brewed coffee, and a wet kiss to your cheek. raspy murmurs of “good morning, baby” reach your ears and, because you love him, your stomachs flips and your heart flutters.

you pull him down, back to bed, almost making him drop your breakfast, but, really, you’re a little too preoccupied trying to take a bite out of him rather than your actual food.

finally, you take a sip of your coffee, and iwaizumi thinks that the satisfied hum and smile you give him make the early morning worth it; that the way you light up at the crispy dough and the powdered sugar and syrup makes everything worth it.

because you’re worth everything to iwaizumi, and although he’s never been good enough with words to actually tell you this, he’ll make sure you feel it.

“bro,” he calls you the nickname you oh so lovingly call him (just this once, though, cause he feels that calling the person you know you’ll marry ‘bro’ is a little off, but today is your birthday so he’ll indulge you), “i love you.”

“bro..” you’re close to tears now; “this has been the best birthday ever”

iwaizumi makes sure it is for the rest of the day, and each birthday to come, too.
