"Don't worry, Aone, I've only got a few hours to go"
more hospital AU! I've mentioned nurse Aone, but also I think him and Futakuchi run into each other as one leaves and the other arrives most of the time. They have breakfast/dinner together. Sometimes Futakuchi works longer hours and Aone isn't always the biggest fan.

widefield of the milky way core, 1hr total exposure time from a Bortle 2 dark site at 24mm focal length

The photo contains a bunch of my other photos within it. I think its neat to see the context of all the nebulae

A little ramble under the cut
The most common question astronomers get is "what does it look like to the naked eye?" Photos are usually much more detailed and colourful, since cameras can take long exposures while our eyes can't.
I was able to observe it from the Bortle 2 site with about 10 mins of dark adaptation (astronomers usually recommend at least 30 mins but I was busy at the time). I edited the photo to try to account for the level of details, colour, and stars that I was able to see with my eyes, here:
Tumblr media
It was mostly colourless, but I think I was able to see a faint hint of golden brown colour right in the brightest part of the milky way core. The central bulge of the milky way extended just short of Antares (bright yellow star at the top), and I was just barely able to see the dark dust lanes extending to Antares. The Lagoon nebula was obviously visible as a small diffuse cloud, and the Omega nebula was also visible as a fuzzy looking "star" if you knew where to look.
Keep in mind though this is in the southern hemisphere, where the milky way core passes directly overhead. In the northern hemisphere, this region of the milky way is lower on the horizon, and is thus dimmed by the atmosphere. On the other hand, I didn't adapt my eyes to the darkness for very long, and I was in a Bortle 2 site (the darkest skies are rated Bortle 1), so even better views are definitely possible.
I think the biggest thing that photos can't capture is the sheer size of the milky way in the sky. It stretches across the entire sky from horizon to horizon, and at its thickest point it's wider than two outstretched hands at arms length. The sky is also dotted with stars covering your entire field of vision. As much as it's a cliché thing to say, you really do get a sense of yourself on earth floating through space. It's an insanely immersive experience

ngc ramblings part 3- chapter 5
here we are at part 3!!! sorry this one took so long, i originally was gonna make this post include entropy and extus (along with finally talking about face in depth) but it was so fuckin long that im splitting it into 2 different posts! the next part isnt done yet but im like almost halfway done so it shouldnt be too much longer until its out! also before we get into this one:
tw for: death, animal death, and suicide. pls take care of urself and don't read this if those things are triggering for u <3
ok lets get on with the post
at the start of entropy zach doesnt waste any time getting right to the point. this place is bigger than the other planets so far, and zach says the music this time around is a melody that “started out normal but then got distorted” played by a violin sounding instrument. even tho i do sometimes forget that this is supposed to be a creepypasta im not surprised that he said it made him feel depressed and unnerved lmao. anyways, this planet has all new level types in it!! no reused ones!! ok now this is epic. the bosses this time around are megalon, battra, and mechagodzilla, but itll be a good while before we get to those guys because this chapter is long as hell holy shit?? buckle up babez <33 now, before i get into the meat of things as usual im gonna talk abt the planet name! entropy basically means “a lack of order/predictability or a gradual decline into disorder” and that's very accurate to this part of the story. at this point, red is pissed off and is getting desperate, which means from here on out things are going to be getting more intense and more unstable. this world is the turning point in the overall story, basically.
now with that out of the way, zach first goes to the worlds quiz level as usual! this time something was different. usually, in the quiz levels there would be goofy ass music playin in the bg (specifically the GH1D0RA cheat music, if you wanna like listen to it ig?) but from here on out its been replaced by the music from the games password screen, which zach called creepy earlier on in the pasta. im gonna glaze over the quiz again this time, but when we get to the next planet ill talk about all of the quizzes in depth all at once. basically all you need to know for now abt what happens here is face asks “do you like mothra?” and when zach picks no (after going on a tangent abt how mothra sucks lmao,, bro i swear im good at the game my controllers just messed up /s), face enters bastard mode and goes “TOO BAD!” and boom now zach cant play as anyone but mothra. zach is pissed for now but little does he know this is just going to become an even more epic gamer bc of this,, youll never get better at something if you never try and all that.
after that, zach moves on to the first level type- the forest. immediately zach gets an eerie feeling from this level bc he has some kinda fear involving forests at night (i can think of a reason why but ill have to talk abt that later just to be sure). hes also not feelin great about being forced to play as mothra, so the pressure of it all is def starting to get to him by now. the music in the forest is woodwinds followed by slow, rhythmic drums and chiming bells. must have been some ominous woodwinds and bells bc it made him feel like he was intruding somewhere he shouldnt be (oh rlly?? u dont say,, everything up until now has been fine /s). getting into the level itself, eventually zach comes across some weird deer-like monsters just vibing and scares them away when he gets close. later in the level he finds more of these weird deer along with a sloth-like creature on some of the trees and some raptor dudes killing some of the deer. zach shoots one of the raptors but thats about it. nothing really happened in this level but zach noted that he didnt feel like he was playing a video game, but instead it felt more like he was exploring a forest in another dimension. thats interesting for reasons ill ~get to later~ (yall must be so tired of hearing that by now omg,, i know im tired of saying it at least. i was gonna wait until after replay to talk about things but i severely underestimated how long this whole project would be, so i might make a post for the “more on that later” stuff before i get into replay. let me know what u think i should do).
anyways, the next thing zach checks out is the first tv screen level so far. these levels just play an animation with some music in the background, and theres a different animation per level. this time around the animation is of a kid with a beaver(?) head licking a lollipop and the music is the GH1D0RA music that the quiz levels used to use. the only thing of note here is that zach says he had a shirt that looked just like that when he was a kid. after that, were off to some of the weirdest fuckin levels in this whole thing imo- the hourglass levels. these levels have an entirely brown color palette, with grandfather clocks standing in the background (the level appears to be in like a hallway or something) and various time measuring things floating in the air. the music is the same as the board (ig cosby just didnt feel like thinking of what theme this place would have lol). after a little bit zach was rlly happy to see actual enemies from the normal game show up! these are basically like aircraft, tanks, etc. thats not the main attraction here tho, bc this level has its own unique mechanic! this mechanic is the colored hourglass items you can pick up. there are three of them, a blue one that slows time down and makes enemies from the past appear, a red one that speeds up time and makes enemies from the future appear, and a green one that made the time flow normally and spawned enemies from the normal game. zach found the blue one first, which caused a bunch of prehistoric enemies based on real animals to show up. after that he found a green one and fought normal enemies again, and then he found a red hourglass. the future enemies here look like aliens to me, and zach says that one enemy reminds him of something he saw in a book once. eventually, a special future creature showed up and zach was suddenly in a boss battle! or a mini boss battle? that description is probably more accurate. this guy doesnt have a face, and he can only attack by shooting a beam from his face, it sure does look cool! after zach beat it tho, he was off to the next level type, which is basically a toxic waste dump.
zach called it grungy and inhospitable, with the music being a synth ambient loop that made him feel dizzy while he listened to it. this is important because this is the first instance of the game making zach feel something *physically*, not just psychologically. all of the enemies here are mutated to some degree, with him first seeing green mummies with bird skulls coming out from vats of toxic slutch and a brownish cow skeleton monster with spider legs. later zach comes across a deer from the woods, drinking some toxic slutch (delinchous). zach got close to it to try making it stopped but suddenly some enemies came out of nowhere and scared it into running right off a ledge and into the slutch. rip :pensive:. after that zach found more mutated enemies (i.e some things with tentacles and some other deformed thing with human teeth) before he finally gets to the end of the level, where theres another miniboss waiting for him!! this ones a toxic sludge monster with a whale skull who attacks with a mouth projectile and by charging into you. the monster sank into the slutch and thats all for this level babeyy!
the next level is another forest, but this time its winter! its still at night, but this time zach doesnt feel off put, which he mostly attributes to the music. he describes it as a gentle, calm song that almost sounded romantic. the entire first segment of this level had no enemies in it, but dw this level is interesting i swear. the next segment starts out just as empty as the last one, but this time its silent. that is, until the music from “unforgiving cold” starts playing. yaa you remember that place!! i think i said it was less interesting than i remembered but its interesting again now bc it was foreshadowing these levels!! anyways soon after the music started up, zach started to come across tons of frozen bodies of the deer from earlier. some were mutilated, some werent, but they were all frozen and covered in snow. eventually zach does come across something living though, a sloth creature from earlier! its just vibing when suddenly the winter versions of the raptors from earlier rush in and fuckin obliterate the sloth thing. those things just blindly try killing everything in sight, and even start fighting themselves before zach finally gets to the last part of the level.
now this is where shit starts to get crayzay. this part opens up to a big empty field with a full moon and the nice music from earlier back. despite the nice music tho, zach immediately starts feeling dread and eventually he finds a lake. the lake comes down from the sky and starts to crack like an egg, a humanoid figure curled up in the fetus position dropping into the lake below and the moon halves disintegrated. this spawned the moon beast, the hardest challenge zachs had to deal with so far. after he finally defeats it, the screen goes to black and the name “melissa” is on screen, written in red. after that, the screen then says kys. the word kill then fills up the screen, layering over itself until it forms a picture of reds face. its now that we finally get to hear abt the whole melissa thing (which makes it sound like shes been mentioned in the pasta before this but thats not what i mean lmao). to summarize, zach had a middle school gf named melissa (also bro middle school?? wadda hell) who often went into “episodes” where she would stare off, expressionless, before trembling and putting her face in her hands. she and zach hung out in a field at night a lot but one night she just stared at the moon the whole time before running into traffic and dying.
NOW its finally later!!! were not done with entropy yet, but this is the end of part one of entropy so i wanna just take a little break to talk about things so far. this planet is FULL of symbolism and foreshadowing. to start off, i think a lot of the questions face asks at the beginning foreshadow things that happen. some examples are “is time slipping though your fingers?” which could allude to the time levels, “do you have any regrets?” which i think obviously foreshadows the whole melissa thing, “is it safe to go out at night?” and “do you find it hard to sleep at night?” both follow the same kinda theme, which i think relates to how the melissa incident happened at night, specifically out at night. i dont think the forest levels have anything too important in them, other than to introduce the presence of an innocent, harmless creature that doesnt deserve what happens to it later (aka the deer things) which might symbolize melissa. more evidence for this symbolizing melissa comes from the encounter with the deer in the toxic dump and the winter forest, where in the former zach tries to stop it from hurting itself but is too late, being forced to watch it die, and in the latter the same innocent thing from earlier is found dead close to where the real incident took place. the two big themes to keep in mind here are death and time, more specifically the past. most of the enemies here are either made from bones or kill other enemies, there's a dedicated time level referencing things that zach remembers seeing at one point (aka that one alien zach recognized), the beaver head had the same shirt as child zach did, it all connects to zachs past and the death of melissa. as for the moon beast, its the most obvious reference for reasons ive already explained. i dont really know what the moon cracking open and dropping a curled up human into the lake could mean other than some other thing melissa related, but i *do* think that the fact that the moon beast is the most difficult thing zach has faced so far is symbolic of the fact that the trauma from this event has followed him throughout his entire life, and its something he struggles with daily. it could even be the reason why he said no when face asked if he could sleep easily at night. the moon beast also has some black fur around its neck, which i think is meant to represent a tire track, referencing and/or mocking the way melissa died.
its so cool how this entire part of the story builds up to and foreshadows the bomb it drops at the end of the part, giving people something to look back on. a lot of ppl say that as soon as the melissa stuff gets introduced the story goes down in quality, and i do somewhat agree with that sentiment, especially if they want the story to actually be scary, but i think the direction the story goes from this point on is so unique and cool. it does follow the whole “theres a ghost in the game” troupe (even tho it was probably seen as a spin on that originally) but it doesnt do the same cliches as so many other gaming creepypastas do and it really takes the concept and makes it its own. i just think its neat,,,
anyways im done gushing abt this story, lets get on with part 2 of extus!! basically zach has a fuckin panic attack and, after taking a few minutes to calm himself down when its over, he decides that he has to finish the game now because if he doesnt its just going to haunt him for the rest of his life. zach has now realized that the game is “alive” and can somehow see his thoughts and memories, so understandably hes pretty freaked out by it at this point. when he keeps playing, the first thing he does is check out another tv screen level. this time, the animation is of a fish dude just kinda standing there with his mouth flapping open and closed and the music is the neptune board music from the original game. the only reason i can think of for why this is here is maybe the game is mocking zach for the panic attack he just had (bc when u have a panic attack you feel like you can barely breathe, if ur lucky enough to have never had one before and u dont know) but thats abt it. its probably just a random goofy thing cosby threw in there.
anyways, the next actual level is the first labyrinth level. this time around, its a gold labyrinth specifically. the music in these levels is a slow, ominous drum beat with female vocals occasionally coming in and (basically from here on out) the monster zach plays as is now half the size it used to be. i think this shows how zachs feeling at this point, like this whole thing isnt just being a big strong monster and beating up enemies any more, he feels small and scared and helpless in the face of something potentially dangerous that he doesnt understand maybe his confusion about the game is the reason *why* theres so many labyrinth levels here in the first place. anyways im getting ahead of myself. personally, i think the aesthetic of the gold labyrinth is very similar to the green temples back on trance. while trance had a more circular and soft theme to it's architecture and sculpture, entropys is much more square or rectangle oriented. despite this, i think that the golden mazes at least are another religious kind of building, and the architecture is just different because theyre two different cultures who just happen to worship the same spiritual figure (aka melissa. did i say that earlier? i think i did,, if i didnt well the religions worship melissa, not knowing she's a dead human or anything. probably).
moving on, zach notes how the gold labyrinth would probably have been impossible to navigate as any of the other monsters, so turns out face being an asshole was a blessing in disguise after all huh? anyways this place is full of weird gold monsters, lava/fire traps, and stone faces (both in more of an easter island head style and in the regular feminine headshot weve seen so far). zach comes across two feminine heads, one that is more adult looking and pure gold, and another one that looks much younger and whos eyes have red irises and blue scleras. this statue apparently looks a lot like melissa did on the night she died, so zach leaves it pretty quickly. i *think* this is the first time we see the color blue associated with melissa? if it isnt sorry abt that, its been a couple days since i worked on ngcr so ive forgotten some of the smaller or more subtle things by now. GOD i keep getting side tracked ANYWAYS eventually zach finds a non-gold enemy and sees it get picked up by like an arcade crane claw. hes curious so he follows the claw, only to see the monster be put in a big gold cauldron and walk out the side of it as a gold monster.
gonna be honest, no idea what the hell this could mean. like? theres been no themes of corruption or good things becoming evil so far so this just kinda. exists,, yea idk lol. im not part of like any discord servers or anything so all this theorizing and analysis has just been me, maybe getting some small ideas from like random youtube comments or something, so if something ive said so far has been unanimously disagreed with somewhere i dont know about it. thats also why this isnt really a definitive or comprehensive analysis (even tho im trying to be as comprehensive as i can).
anyways zach finds the exit soon after and hes on to the next level type (there's so fucking many of them ik dont worry weve almost gotten to all of them now), the indigo cliffs. the background of these levels is similar to the blue mountains from trance, but now the moon and clouds from the toxic dump background is also here (and colored indigo to match). the music here is just a deep rumbling noise. the first “enemies” he sees here are just a bunch of multicolored little guys coming out of a hole in the ground and jumping off a cliff. were continuing the death theme yall!! anyways zach continues, flying over some more weird creatures (tho some of them just look like dinosaurs lol) before he sees a bunch more of the multicolored guys out and about but this time theyre getting grabbed by birds!! wadda heel!!! zach comments on how the multicolored dudes seem eager to die and thinks maybe the moon has something to do with it (like melissa dude wat!!!! that's crazy /s). at the end of the level there were some more multicolored dudes just walking into a creatures mouth so zach attacked the thing and killed it and the levels over yay!
now its time for the bosses babeyy!!! first zach fights battra (basically an evil moth kaiju), the music is varans theme. battra starts off in his larvae form, where he basically just fought by running into you and shooting stuff at you. while fighting this form, zach noticed that the game buffed mothra because his gamer skillz were too cringe lmaoo. he beats the larvae form and battra goes into his second form, where hes basically a stronger clone of mothra (misogyny). zach fights battra and has fun doing it (for once,, good for him) and he wins yay! next hes fighting megalon (a big beetle/bug kaiju), whos music was gigans theme. im tired when im writing this so ill just give you zachs description of how he fought: “strong, persistent, but dumb”. after this, zach checks out the last tv screen of entropy. this time, it shows a big buff guy with a sack over his head hit a womans head with a sledgehammer while shes tied to a table or something. the music for it was the password theme. i think this is probably here because red is getting angrier? like this guy is still here after i triggered his ptsd?? what the hell!!!
anyways before we get to the last boss we have one last level type to get through- the shadow labyrinth. at this point, zach starts to feel drained because no shit sherlock you just had a panic attack and youve been playing this game for fuckin several hours at this point of course youre fuckin drained. anyways zach enters the shadow labyrinth, which is a black recolor of the gold labyrinth. the music is “evil ambience” similar to unforgiving colds music but distinctly different apparently. there werent any enemies so zach just kinda wandered for a while until the lights turned off, darkening the whole screen and (secretly) spawning tons of spooky enemies thatll chase and hit mothra in the dark. eventually the lights came back on and zach started scrambling to the exit. when the lights turned back off, zach was able to find one of the melissa looking statues and stood next to it. it warded off the monsters while the lights were off, so zach was safe. i think this shows 2 things: 1) its a little more validation for my “religion in this world worships melissa” theory and 2) it foreshadows the way melissa wants to protect zach at the end of the game. zach beat the shadow labyrinth a lot faster than the gold one so were done with all the stages now!! now theres only the last boss and red and were done with entropy!
the last boss is mechagodzilla, but when zach starts the level, normal godzilla is there instead!! its whatever tho bc soon the disguise is gone and its just pretty much the normal mechagodzilla fight (but now hes got a gay beam). at about half health tho, mechagodzillas sprite breaks into pieces like gezoras did way back on earth and reforms into not-mechagodzilla. even tho it looks uncanny (and the usage of the face statue on the front is probably there to further mock zach bc melissa) zach beats it p easily and now its time for the chase. ba dum ba dum thats the sound of a chase.
as usual tho, before i get to the red chase its time to talk about entropy as a planet!! i think the best way to describe the layout is “a big forest with a toxic waste dump in it takes up half the planet while the other half is a large religious temple/labyrinth with a dangerous underbelly”. there doesnt seem to be any intelligent life there now (its all dead by now probably) but there was at some point at least because imean the huge labyrinth is there dude!!! i dont have much to say for this section tbh bc i feel like i've already said everything i wanted to, so its time for the chase ig!!
basically the chase with red here takes place in a labyrinth level bc of course it does. this labyrinth, however, seems to be made of some kind of organic matter. is it flesh? organs? nondescript viscera? idk but it's pulsating and bloody. also this time red has wings too!! anyways, basically zach avoids red throughout the maze, red breaks through one of the walls with his big alien tongue, and zach gets to the end of the maze. nothing crazy happens at the end of this chapter (i think it was crazy enough as is) so thats the end of that and now its time for the penultimate planet- extus.

I've been off Tumblr so long that I remembered I never posted these. October 30th was a favorable moon phase to observe, but there was also a recent solar storm and predictions of aurorae visible from my latitude. The constant stream of people driving in only to blind and be blinded by headlights meant I didn't log a single new object visually. But, I had my astrophotography rig up and running.
Because of some tracking problems, and me being easily distracted and wanting to get in as many targets as possible, I didn't get much data on any one thing. The first galaxy picture I only got six minutes of useable data on (I collected for about an hour), but my processing software only wanted to use two minutes of it. My camera I got last spring hasn't yet lived up to its full potential.
Next time I take it out I'm only imaging one object per night. These would have all been better if I'd done that. I'd imaged them all previously with a different camera and there's not a big improvement yet.
Dumbbell Nebula / M27, Crescent Nebula, NGC 7331 + "The Fleas" / Deer Lick Group, Draco's Trio (cropped widely because of a surprise galaxy on the left).
I'm also planning to get a slightly larger telescope to help with light-gathering and resolving small features. The last time I imaged the Trio, it was with a 6" scope (this set was with a 4") and I was able to clearly see the spiral arms in the rightmost galaxy.

@waffle-the-frog, you’ve been asking about Healani, so here ya go.
@ellzilla, @arandomvelociraptor, @tooronz, @jeweledstone, @fumusnathcorpus, @zincs-posts.
I am putting a bit of a gore warning.
I was purely influenced by the light fury in HTTYD 3, so if the coloring strikes familiar to you, that’s why.
Healani is the mother of Noelani. I made sure that what was seen in Noelani is seen in his mother, since I made it fairly clear that Noelani does look a lot like her. She’s around 93m, or around 305ft. This makes her one of the shortest Arachnids seen on Zenith. What makes her extra special is the fact that she’s technically an albino. This is odd since being albino means you lack a certain amount of melanin, or have none at all. However, there has never been another Arachnid quite like her in terms of coloring. Arachnids are usually salmon, red, or umber. There can be many different colors, but those three are the rawest in terms of talking about pure-blooded Arachnids. None of those colors are remotely close to white. This is further supported due to the fact that she shares similar symptoms found in albinism such as: poor depth perception, frail skin to the sun, a sun that is as powerful as our sun, and is noticeably more sensitive to the light.
Since she never liked going out when it was day, she became a night owl who took shelter in the crystal caves that decorate Zenith’s terrain. Her coloring is what caught the father’s eye, encouraging him to take pursuit and find her at a body of water surrounded by the very caves she lived in. At first, he was just interested in her coloring, since, again, there hasn’t been another Arachnid like her, but the more he got to know her, the more he fell for her.
Healani is very sweet in nature, taking after her father and mother. Whenever she saw a kid get lost or sometimes hurt, she was usually the first one there to take care of them till the parents came back. She also had a tendency to be playful, often trolling who would be her future husband. Said playfulness would turn into feistiness as she had moments where she literally turned into a small snowball full of rage. Fortunately for the father, this only happened when someone threatened them. It even led to a comedic moment where she literally gave Sebastian’s father toasted buns for insulting her future husband.
When it was clear that the father wanted her as a mate, she gave no trouble about it, claiming she felt the same. There was no mating ritual needed, they just exchanged their vows and called themselves a pair. It was only a year into the relationship that they decided to have their first child: Noelani.
Since Noelani looked nothing like her, it led to rumors about her cheating on her husband, but the father was quick to shut this down. Unfortunately, this brought out his tyrannical side very often, scaring the rest of his pack. Despite all of this, Healani was still a great mother to her son, often taking advice from those who have been, or were still parents. She taught him everything from an early age, allowing him to mature much quicker than most.
However, as much as it was sunshine and flowers for Noelani, Healani would prove to not be around for much longer. At the age of 95 earth years, she was brutally murdered by Sebastian’s father. When she was alone and sleeping peacefully, she was rudely awakened by him and was decapitated before she got the chance to scream for help. Noelani was the first to come home to see her body bloodied and broken. All he remembers is seeing her and screaming, alerting the father to rush over and see her.
The last fight between him and Sebastian’s father was no struggle. Upon seeing that his long-term enemy was holding her head as a prize, he lost it. He and his son tore the sick freak to shreds. After they did, they took her body and buried it near the body of water where her and the father first met, which was also her favorite spot.
She only lived to be 95 earth years, which is exceptionally young for an Arachnid. They usually live up to 600+ without issue. It is unclear as to where she is now since the afterlife is a thing. As much as Noelani wants to see her again, he refuses the notion due to what he’s done as a Zenithian king.
He only hopes that wherever she is, she’s at peace.

hello! i'm an amateur calligrapher and mapmaker, and i'm in the process of drafting a map of your rivendell in NGCS. i have. uh. fifteen pages of notes, but also no real sense for the overall distribution of the village beyond "south-facing, in a valley" and a bunch of connections between individual locations. it's super clear that you've put a ton of thought into the layout, would you be comfortable drawing a rough sketch that i could base a detailed piece on?
hi!!!!! <3 first, take my admiration for being a calligrapher and mapmaker because that's so impressive!! i wish you all the luck with the craft you've chosen to love! okay, so! a) i got really excited about this ask bc!!! i have spent so much time!! thinking about this!!!! not to be a nerd, but i love thinking about the layouts of towns and cities in fantasy stories. and their infrastructure (if the ramblings about toilets don't clue you in)
b) before i share, do keep in mind that i am NOT an artist. i haven't ever been able to draw something more complex than a stick figure in my entire life. that said, i did work about 2 hours trying to make this look at nice as possible. HOWEVER what i lack in artistic talent, i shall make up for with explanation
Tumblr media
ta-da!!! forgive my messy writing and the faded words in places, but i'll endeavor to explain so it's more clear.
i guess the general description i can give for the overall shape of Rivendell is: it's kinda like a comma? thick where the main buildings are and then gets smaller and thinner the farther from it you go. if that makes sense. or a tadpole! it kinda looks like a tadpole....huh...
anyways! first, there are four levels of Rivendell. there is the main level, where the Last Homely House and Craft Hall are on. The level below that is marked by the diagonal slashes and outlined with the weird braces-looking line, which includes areas such as the Barns, Vineyards, Farms, Orchards, and Apiary, as well as the Guard House and Stables on the other side of the main halls and the Craft House. you'll notice that the Craft Hall is on a distinctly higher elevation than the Guard House, yet the bridge that crosses the river next to the Stable directly to the Healing Hall seems to draw even. that is because i envision an incline starting from the Guard House going up so that it eventually draws even with the first level, but i was unsure how to depict that. the level above the main level is outlined with dash marks and a checkered pattern, where the Resident Housing is. This is, again, a natural looking elevation in my mind, as described in Chapter 16. the level above THAT is outlined in with a thick dotted line and more or less horizontal lines, which is the water processing plant for Rivendell.
so let's start with what you would see first when entering the valley. as you can see in the image, there is a diagonal bar, meant to represent a bridge over the river as seen in this picture, upon which i based most of my map of Rivendell on:
Tumblr media
(i found the image on google and have no idea who the artist is. if someone knows, please tell me so i can cite them properly) see that singular bridge crossing the water? yes, that's what it's supposed to be. now, as we know, Imladris/Rivendell was originally a refugee settlement that had to endure sieges from Sauron's forces for quite a while--before they were even established as a realm, honestly. so i figure with that in mind, they probably have only one public access point that they allow people to enter the valley through, creating a nice little choke point if any invaders want to test their luck. there are, of course, alternate entrances and exits, but those are known only to the residents of the valley. the first building a visitor would come in contact with is the Guard House, which...well, has guards. It's in the name. This is where visitors are checked over and their identities are confirmed and so on and so forth. it also contains their armory and weapons storage. again, this is critical to defense as it provides a choke point to make it easier to focus fire. i imagine the building itself is likely two stories and surrounded by towers to give elves the advantage of higher ground to bombard potential attackers.
the ground would slope UP to the stables, where confirmed visitors would settle their animals and unload their gear and be greeted formally. they would be lead across this second bridge into the Last Homely House.
okay, so. the Last Homely House. as you can see, i've depicted it as a gargantuan structure, but in reality, i imagine it's not such a singular thing. rather, it's probably separate buildings connected to each other with bridges or breezeways or other paths. most buildings are about three stories tall. but it's mainly broken down into six parts:
1. the Healing Halls - where Elrond and Co practice their craft. located the closest to the stables for quicker delivery of injured patients 2. the Offices - where offices are and where all the work gets done to keep up the running of Rivendell. also where a lot of storage areas are. 3. ** the two little stars are where the biggest of the inner courtyards are, famously where Cyr dangled off a rooftop in Chapter 11 4. Guest Quarters - as it says on the tin, where Cyr spent half of one night in Chapter 12 before escaping again. Also where some normal residents of Rivendell live if they don't want to trek to work every day 5. Kitchens - HUGE. I SERIOUSLY CANNOT OVERSTATE HOW LARGE THE KITCHENS ARE. there's also ample storage for food here as well as the daily dining hall 6. * is the formal hall where the Solstice Celebration took place!
not pictured are the many, many alcoves and small gardens
in front of that is the Library. a truly enormous building filled with basically all the knowledge of elvenkind, painstakingly gathered by Elrond and everyone else in Rivendell.
in front of that is the Hall of Fire, where most elves gather to tell stories and songs. it is sometimes used as a multipurpose room.
now, at the back of the Last Homely House is where the earth slopes up again into the protected cove that makes up Resident Housing. an excerpt from Chapter 16: "From anywhere in the central hub, this place would be totally unnoticed, since the trees help disguise the path and the slope. The optical illusion makes it seem like the back of the main house is right up against the cliffs, when in reality there’s so much more space. For as hidden Rivendell is in the valley, the main residential area hides yet more people and buildings, of which there are many." again, this place was built with strategy and protections in mind. there are many single houses here and yet more house built into the cliff side itself. at it's peak, Rivendell used all of it's space to maximum efficiency, but as the Third Age continues and more sail west, these cliff homes are becoming less and less used.
now, if i may direct your attention to the braces-looking line again, you can see some parts of it are circled. that is to indicate the pathways that wind down further into the valley to get to the farming areas.
as you can see, the Farms are the south-most, enabling the plants to get ample sunlight. the Vineyards are north of that, and the Barns that hold the animals are yet more north. to the west are the Orchards and the Apiary bc elves care about bees. also something to note about these areas are that there are small hamlets in each area to house the farmers that work there. i didn't draw them because honestly, i forgot about them until just now. but!! they're there. because someone needs to watch the crops.
now there are two rivers that cut through Rivendell, and they're very faint on the image here, but to identify them: the first river cuts off the Craft Hall, the Guard House, and the Stables from the rest of the Homely House; and the second river cuts the Barns, Vineyard, and Farms from the Orchards and Apiary. a third river also cuts the valley off from the other side of the gorge, but we knew that already.
anyways, i generally think that Rivendell can be classified as a "town" and can support about 6,000 people with supplements from hunting the nearby Trollshaws and trading some goods with the Greenwood and the kingdom of Arnor and it's later incarnations. i keep going back and forth on the actual number of people in Rivendell at this time, but i think around 4.5k is comfortable to keep it running at this stage of the Third Age.
whew! okay, so this is very long, but i hope this helps clarify how i've depicted Rivendell in Nothing Gold Can Stay!!!! and if you do make that map, please please PLEASE tag me

what is yuka’s gender
I originally wrote a whole essay but I was rambling too much so I’ll just cut it down.
basically: I don’t know and I don’t want to label her. the idea of giving a character a definite label, who’s current character arc is about finding their own identity doesn’t feel right to me. that being said yuka is clearly ngc, identifies with femininity, and currently uses she/her pronouns, so just respect that.
*to note: I'm not saying that people cannot label/see yuka (plenty of people see her as trans or nb and thats perfectly fine!) a certain way. I do have my own thoughts on her gender identity, but dont think its my place to give a hard answer on what her gender identity is while her character is still developing

Well, here it is. My life purpose. Back in grade 7 I went to the Art Gallery of Ontario and it is here we saw the work of art that has most impacted me in my life, chee-to. When I originally saw this work it was with my mother after seeing the King Tut exhibit held in the gallery at the time. After seeing the awesome mummies we decided to roam the rest of the gallery. At the time I had zero interest in art or studying art. Seeing this work baffled me, and my mum made the joke to the nearby security guard that someone dropped some of their food and that we should get a broom. This experience heavily impacted me. Not because the piece moved me in the way it was meant to but because of the sheer ridiculousness. Over the years every so often I will remember this work and text my mum going "remember that super weird pile of Cheetos under the rocks at the AGO" it has become a lasting joke that we still cannot get over. Now almost 10 years after seeing it I find it, in a catalogue as I do some final research for my summer position at an art gallery, about to enter into my final year of university studying Art History. I finally know it's name and the artist and now I truly feel like I can die happy.

17. What fic are you most proud of?
I should probably say any one that I managed to finish... god. I think NGCS holds the cake, not because it was so damn long, not because it has the most hits, but because even after all this time, people come back to it, or discover it anew, and it helps them. I can’t count the number of long comments I’ve gotten over quarantine, people telling me they managed to finally forget their real life troubles, if even for the couple of days it took them to read that story, that it managed to make them laugh, or cry, or both at once... Like holy shit, that’s why I keep writing tbh.
19. Who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? Why?
The easiest, at this point, after some 500k words in his POV, would still have to be Bilbo Baggins. I’m not as passionate about creating new narratives for him as I used to be, but after all this time, I’m confident that I could sit down and create something believable from his point of view, just by virtue of spending so much time with him, and that’s kinda nice.
As for the most difficult, aside from any character I’m not immediately familiar with, I’d have to say JGY, because I’ve spent a long time thinking about him, and it turns out there are some things in there that reflect... a lot of my personal stuff back at me, which gets interesting, to say the least. So writing him is always a gamble of ‘will I have fun or will I have a minor existential crisis’.
30. Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.
Okay so basically I’ve been writing this XIcheng post-canon story in my notes... probably ever since I entered this fandom, and it has transformed from a gentle fix-it into something with... god, actual plot, and I’m frankly a bit worried that once I commit to it, everything else will have to take a backseat, so it’s currently on the backburner, but... BUT.
For now it’s called Ghosts That We Knew, it spends A LOT of time dealing with said ghosts on both sides, and it gets... interesting, if I do say so myself. With that said, there’s no telling when I’ll read some silly idea and it will end up transforming itself into a longfic, as was the case with a certain summer camp AU...
Wow, I rambled, but thank you so much for asking, Iza :)

fav Haikyuu friendships?
Oh gosh, there are so many!!! I love pretty much all Haikyuu friendships, but since my favorite characters as a majority are second years, I’ll focus on them!I adore the ngc squad, I think they’re amazing and while it may be rocky sailing at first, they’d get along swimmingly. Any combination of those captains and as a group I love. The Karasuno second years!! And yes, I’m including Kinoshita and Narita because they’re part of the team too!! I hc Kinoshita as the king of memes and he and Noya love to troll the team and especially the other second years. Again, any combination or the group as a whole is wonderful.I adore Ennoaka as a romantic ship, but also platonic. I hc that Akaashi’s grandparents live in Miyagi and are neighbors to Enno’s aunts (TW: for those who don’t know my hc, I hc Enno’s parents died in an accident when he was two, so now his paternal aunt and her wife take care of them, they have a bakery and they’re awesome, gotta love baking lesbians) which means Akaashi and Enno are childhood friends and since Akaashi’s family visits often, they grow really close!I also love Enno getting close with Daichi and Suga, as well as Yamaguchi any of Karasuno, give me all the Karasuno friendshipsDON’T FORGET FUKURODANI TEAM FRIENDSHIPS, I ADORE THEMALL THE TEAM FRIENDSHIPSAnd on that note, there isn’t a lot of content for them, but it’s canon that Kindaichi and Yahaba are friends because they hang out at matches and around their school.
I’m rambling as I continue thinking of new ones USHIJIMA AND TENDOUI hope that’s what you were looking for hahaha, I have a lot of feelings about them in case that wasn’t obvious!! Thanks for the ask, have a nice day!!! :D

“No more fainting?” Kili giggles.
“No more fainting.”
“Good, because Indâd had a hard time carrying you last night,” Fili offers very solemnly.
Bilbo's mouth hangs agape as his cheeks heat up, and Deidre bursts into laughter, while the King chokes on the leftover milk he was just drinking.
“I didn't!” he exclaims as if it's a personal offense, “I assure you you're... perfectly portable, Professor.”
...I’m re-reading Nothing Gold Can Stay by @bilboo / perkynurples - I do this every year, but I’m slower than usual this year because work and whatnot, and for some reason I totally forgot what linguistic gems are in there. (This is from Chapter 15, I believe.)
Perfectly portable. I laughed so hard this morning I woke my mother.

Angele Headcannons. (Part 2.)
I’m making a part two of this and they’re gonna be more along the lines of “quick facts”, so here we go.
- Looks like she’s 18 still, but is actually 24.
- Smart, yet forgetful as all heck. I.E.: She’ll know a car engine by heart, but there’s always a chance of her forgetting a name to a part. The only possible explanation of this is her anxiety, which has been recorded to have a connection between it and forgetfulness.
- Is the world’s best backwards driver.
- Figured out how to put a clutch in an automatic transmission and make it work.
- Custom built a total of 3 engines. 2 for one, 1 for a truck. Why? Cause the stock ones on both vehicles broke with a custom one breaking as well.
- Knows some ninjutsu.
- If you’re wondering how she knows all of this, she’s self taught and knows how to analyze from multiple sources.
- Is pretty strong for a female. Most conclude it to her being a hybrid, which is half true, but she can somehow switch between human strength and dragon strength. She prefers using human strength.
- Is the biggest Minecraft fan, but plays a version in which no one else has. It’s the Windows 10 version.
- Would be a bigger gamer if she didn’t play games no one else really plays, so she doesn’t mention much about her gaming life.
- No, she doesn’t make block houses, they’re legitimate houses. She even uses a floor planning tool to map things out.
- Has tried to make a circle in Minecraft without help once cause she remembered being complimented on her ability to draw perfect circles, so she thought if she can do that, then crafting one shouldn’t be much different. She actually came surprisingly close.. like one-pixel-off close.
- Plays in creative mode most of the time, but can do survival on hard just fine.
- Most of her music is gaming music. It’s mostly early 2000′s stuff like Sonic Adventure 2, Animal Crossing for the GameCube, and the original Need for Speed.
- If there’s a song she knows, you can bet she’s gonna sing it.
- “I AM THE E.G.G.M.A.N.! THAT’S WHAT I AM. I AM THE E.G.G.M.A.N.! I GOT THE MASTER PLAN!” - Angele in her bedroom in the middle of the night.
- Has taken a liking to industrial/dark music.
- “Get Low” is the only song she plays over and over when she works on her cars. No, it’s not the original version, it’s either the instrumental version or the NfS version.
- Is a memelord.
- “BE GONE, THOT!” - Angele about to slap Not-Hedorah for being annoying.
- When she stands for too long, she just squats and chills. She’s even done it on one leg before just to show off the fact that she’s just that metal.
- Thought Sonic’s grinding shoes in the Sonic Adventure 2 game were neat, so she built metal arches into the bottom of her boots.
- Yes, she can grind on rails, and no, I don’t just mean normal staircase rails. I also mean train track rails.
- Can’t say a joke without laughing like the giggly person she is.
- When there’s a chance for a pun, she will take it.
- Tried sculpting for the first time and it actually turned out better than she’d expected.
- Doesn’t know that she’s blushing till someone points it out. She can’t differ the feelings of blushing and the feelings of anxiety.
- Kinda hates her emotions. She feels like she’s too sensitive most of the time.
- Will never like fruit, but will happily eat vegetables.
- Has a large jukebox that literally looks like a Minecraft note block.
- Feels off when people offer to do things for her. She’s very used to being the one who does it.
- Will quote anything from games to vines.
- Will win a staring contest.
- Several things around the house have been sewn by her hands. This includes any plushies, pillows, blankets, and stockings.
- Got told several times about how good her sewing was. She still doesn’t know how to feel about it.
- Can almost play any instrument she gets her hands on. The most common are the bass, guitar, drums, violin, saxophone, and trombone.
- Singing would be included, but I’m talking stuff that’s learned. Singing’s a natural talent of hers.
- Can play the role of a therapist when someone needs it. I.E.: If someone is scared, she’s not afraid to ask what’s specifically bothering them. If they can’t tell her, she can figure it out on her own and ask later. If they do, or she pinpoints exactly what’s bothering them and they confirm it as so, she’s in most scenarios where she can just spill facts about why they shouldn’t be afraid of it. This has worked in quite a few cases.
- She somehow tricks people into thinking she’s more confident than she actually is. She thinks she’s nothing but an anxious mess that tries her best, but she’s often told by her friends that she radiates confidence to the point they feel better. She has no idea how that works, but she goes with it.
- Has tried spinach at one point in time. Loves it. It was, admittedly, cream cheese spinach with chicken, but she never expected to actually want it.
- Hasn’t taken an I.Q. test and wonders how high her I.Q. actually is.
- Hates math, but is actually pretty damn good at it.
- Has the patience of a saint and no one knows where she got it from.
- Watched some young woman her age from across the parking lot from where she works trying to take the hubcaps off. Instead of doing the common sense thing and use a proper wrench to unbolt them, the woman proceeded to “peel” them off by stepping on them and basically ruin them. She still questions that woman’s sanity.
- Despite being small, she still pokes fun at others who are shorter compared to others. She often gets socked in the gut for it, but she’s completely okay with it.
- Anything that’s supposed to make people’s heads hurt doesn’t work on her. This includes anything from saying stuff that contradicts itself to what she has to witness on the road every day. In most cases, she just laughs at it.
- Loves earrape memes. Thinks they’re freaking hilarious.
Okay, I’mma stop here for now. This is getting long.
