some ppl just cannot accept that mike is written to be an asshole on purpose in the narrative and we are not meant to be on his side.

it is mainly done to tank mlvn's relationship, to show that how negative of an affect it has on both mike and el and how asshole they can be in the relationship... it just aint making sense whenever ppl try to justify mike's actions when we are not supposed to.

i wouldn't say we're not meant to be on his side because we're still supposed to root for him but i do think we're meant to be frustrated with him. because even people who don't think byler is happening can see there's something going on with him and the monologue is a flimsy explanation. and because they make you feel sorry for will and el which will just make you dislike the guy who's (unintentionally and unknowingly sometimes) hurting them. and i do get why people feel the urge to justify his actions/defend him (during the fight with el and at rink o mania and for everything he did that hurt el or will) because they understand him and i do too like trust me i know why he's acting this way we all know! but it's really not like everyone disliking him is something that just happened. i think what's frustrating is like you said, it's this, the main takeaway is supposed to be that mlvn makes them both act in ways that hurt other characters (ditching them in season 3 and them making will third wheel this season) but mike is the only one who gets blamed for some reason. even when it's literally el who says she wants the day to be about the two of them at the airport. and it's probably because mike's the one who's supposed to be will's best friend and he's the one who starts a fight with him later and he's the one who dodged his hug at the airport before but like. idk lol. and it's also because el is crying by the end of the day and all that but it's just funny. same thing with the hill in season 3 like mike isn't the only one who left, and she probably gets a pass because of the whole grew up in a lab and wasn't socialized thing but it's just...being in that relationship has her acting like an asshole too!

also what i was saying a couple weeks ago of course everyone hating mike is dumb and frustrating and a little much but it's kind of just what happens when you find yourself in the middle of a love triangle. sorry mike
