While we're on the topic of De-aging AU's I wanna talk about Jason and Damian if Jason was 14 again real quick.
Do you guys think that Damian looks at this version of Jason, so different from the version he knows, nothing like the person he was told Jason was, and feels uncomfortably seen?
Damian was always told that Jason died because he was reckless, because he disobeyed orders, he was fired as Robin and he got himself killed. A cautionary tale, not a threat to his position. He dismisses Jason because Bruce does, because Dick does, because sometimes even Babs and Alfred do.
That's not the kid that he's looking at now. This Jason is happy, and smart, and full of love that has not yet soured into grief. He hangs on Bruce's every word, trains until his hands bleed and his body gives out to perfect the moves Bruce teaches him. He looks at Bruce with stars in his eyes and he calls him dad.
And Damian can't help but think, that this is the perfect Robin. The perfect son. And if Jason - sweet, loving, strong, Jason - can be fired, can die and have his room locked away and his pictures torn down, can have his last memory as Robin be as A Good Soldier, how could the rest of them ever compete? What could Damian do to stand a chance?
Jason will never grow out of the shadow of Robin, like the rest of them did. As long as Bruce, and Dick, and Babs, and Alfred look at him and see a dead kid who came back wrong, he will never get to be anything else. He will not get to be looked at through who he is now without the shadow of a dead boy looming over him.
And the worst part? Jason is exactly the same person he was back then. Bitter, sure, angry, justifiably, but he is still the boy with too much love in his heart and righteous fury festering in his gut. He is exactly the same boy who threw himself in front of an explosion to save his mother.
(The lines between the mother that betrayed him and the father that disgraced him are so very blurred. Fire or blade or crowbars or fists it does not matter. It ends the same way it always does because Jason Todd always dies, in every universe, in every timeline, Jason dies and crawls out only to be killed again and again and again.)

And also another thing. The Scholomance is gonna need. So much CGI. Like. So much CGI. The chances of some poor CGI team out there getting crunched and underpaid and delivering truly atrocious work... they are not small.

I made this for the lovely and kind @moorishflower based on a little snippet when the first beginnings of "Beautiful, Strange, and New" were just starting to be written. The scene is from the end of part 1 (chapter 9) which you can read here!

Ringo's Love of Jive Dancing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Playing skiffle with Eddie Clayton introduced a welcome way out from the street-corner existence Richy Starkey had known more than a year. It would take a long time to remove himself completely, but being with a group was an alternative to “walking” with the gang, and when he and Roy weren’t doing one or the other they were often dancing. Both were athletic and acrobatic jivers, accomplished rock and roll dancers able to flip, flop and fly their female partners, hold them up in the air and send them scooting through their legs.
Richy was a good jiver and so was I. We used to go to all the hops, to the Rialto and the Cavern, and girls liked to dance with us because we could do it. We had denim suits and denim jackets so the lads and girls in the Cavern called us “the Binmen.” We had regular jiving partners and loved it. But we were seriously threatened in the Rialto one night. Some feller got stabbed in the face with a pair of scissors and I was told, “You and your mate are next.” We were out of there like a shot. We didn’t like that at all. That was me and Richy—out the door.
—Tune In (Ch. 7, July 15–Dec 15, 1957)
A jukebox pumped out records when the Hurricanes took a break and [Ringo] was easily the best jiver in the group, never short of a dance partner. Margaret Douglas, on holiday here from Liverpool, says, “Ringo was a brilliant rock ’n’ roll dancer. He knew all the moves.”26

i think it would be very funny if lime kept stealing all of mochis side quests because he thinks theyre fun even though he doesnt need any of the rewards and everyone is pissed because they could actually use the things she gives in exchange but lime keeps fucking taking all the side quest resources before anyone has a chance to report back

finding a character that grates against your nerves and eventually thinking, well, that's not fair, you haven't done anything; why do i dislike you? and then you dwell on this for a while and discover 'oh! you are like me when i was younger' and decide well, i'll simply learn how to love the both of you. power in this.
#N posts stuff#'what are you talking about?' fuck if i know.#but also i'm talking about penny from 'the 7' -- nosy little control freak determined to find Some foothold into Every conversation#it's interesting bc sometimes when i watch i'm like 'this character is played on the Border of metagaming' but the more i think abuot it#the less it Feels like metagaming bc penny Genuinely seems Exactly like the kind of person who just Is That Determined to be#some level of involved in Every situation; 'yeah i know that show you were in' 'Yeah i was listening into this scene from a different hall'#equal parts her being a Rogue character to her core AND her borderline pathological need for control in Every situation#w/ None of the social grace needed to temper this impulse into something more broadly 'palatable' -> very autistic to me in a way#'i don't Get It but if i'm Always Right then that's good bc it's Bad to be Wrong so i just have to Know Everything so that i'm Never Wrong'#or like 'no i don't understand the Rules right but if i can just Be In Charge of the Situation at all times then i'm the one domineering#where this is going and how it unfolds; like if i'm in charge i understand That at least so i will just Always be in charge'#and sometimes this starts fights with your friends and they call you a freak for it and you're like 'hm. i don't know what's going on#but if You said it and You Get People then you must be right so. i will alter this immediately' but penny doesn't have that interaction#because her friends are just like 'yeah i love you And that batshit way of interacting with the world that you embody' and there is a#temptation of sorts to be like 'penny you HAVE to stop that; you NEED to learn that lesson please' but then like. hm. does she?#much to think about. i don't interact w/ people enough anymore for this to impact my interactions with real people lol#but it Is interesting to peel apart a fictional character and find a Younger You in there. i can change how i think about Them at least

Follow up to this ficlet where I said I was thinking about this.
I do not have the energy to adequately express this tonight but I’m always completely obsessed with Túrin telling Aerin that he can bring her to Morwen and Aerin telling him if he doesn’t find Morwen to comfort her, she won’t forgive him for what he’s done in Dor-lómin. (Also note to self: make a tag for Túrin’s return to Hithlum because I have so many posts about it but no tag)
“But go first to Morwen and comfort her or I will hold all the wrack you have wrought here hard to forgive.”
…“But come away! I will bring you to Morwen.”
…“You cannot mend what you have done here. Go! To stay will make all the worse and rob Morwen to no purpose.”
There is so much here; Aerin’s continued selflessness even here and now, facing even worse violence in her mind than she’s already endured she’s thinking about Morwen’s grief for Túrin. Her relationship with Morwen was a comfort to her, I think, post Nírnaeth. (I mean obviously I think that and much more about this, but I mean in the context of this scene and if I get derailed by their earlier relationship here I will get derailed for paragraphs plus I have another post about what the book implies about their earlier relationship. Anyways)
But now it can do nothing for her and still she thinks of Morwen’s grief
The level of her care and loyalty even amid the horrors she’s endured for decades is genuinely staggering to me.
It is also a desperate care, without hope for herself. Perhaps it always has been.
What I love even more about this is that this scene in one form or another dates back to the Book of Lost Tales version.Túrin is facing execution without fighting and instead, Aerin orders him to leave Hithlum to find Morwen and Niënor though in this version, she seems to have some hope that he might succeed.
…but Turambar cast his sword upon the floor and bade them slay him but they would not for the words of Airin whom they loved and Airin suffered it not for the love of (Morwen), hoping yet to join mother and son in happiness
Even though we never see Morwen and Aerin interact on page, their bond is so clear and heart wrenching and knowing it’s existed even before the official canon version of the Narn, it’s been a part of their story even since BoLT…it’s just so much to me
Anyways I love them SO much, I’ll definitely come back to this when I can write more eloquently
