wip title ask game

i’m in a pretty manageable spot with wips at the moment which is kinda unusual for me. just a lot of fandoms lol i can’t focus on anything not even a hyperfixation… also most of these are final titles because i am weird about titles and usually pick them early on

almost prayer (dragon age) more cullen/trevelyan bonding over something that feels almost like prayer… also been languishing in the wip folder for a century and i kinda want to dump it but there’s some good stuff here so i’m keeping it to reuse pieces elsewhere at some point..

hanker sore (dragon age) rewrite of a drunk writing circle prompt fill so i can push it to ao3… it was pg when i wrote it to fill the prompt but now it’s slowly becoming a fuck fest… oops..

after (deathloop) fia and charlie again, before and after. this is the oldest wip in the folder rn it’s been collecting dust for a couple years but there’s some good in it so i’m just going to reuse pieces elsewhere lol

iteration (original work!) something about two unwell people finding and escaping different versions of each other over the years… scared to even discuss because the motivation to write outside of fandom is so fucking fleeting that even mentioning this work could give me the ick and i’ll just throw the whole thing away lol anyway! anyway

2. Oh, you picked this one just for me, didn't you? You know how much I love any excuse to rant about how ALL OF MY WORKS deserve more engagement than they will ever receive because I write almost exclusively wlw fics, and wlw and female-centered content virtually never gets the engagement it deserves because this fandom--like so many other fandoms--is just appalling in its treatment of female characters and female-centered content.

However, if I were to narrow down from ALL OF THEM, I would say that I wish my rarepair works got more of a response. I wish I could write about wlw rarepairs without feeling like I'm just throwing my work out into a vacuum to be seen and appreciated by no one. My most recent fic was Tara/Alex--and it was pretty damn cute, if I do say so myself!--and it currently has 6 notes. Yes, you read that right: six.

And like, not to get up on my soapbox and go on another angry rant or anything, but this is very much NOT one of those "the fandom is dying; engagement is down; I'm losing motivation to create content because I'm only getting a fraction of the notes I used to" things, because--and I really can't emphasize this enough--IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR ME AS A WLW WRITER. The frustration that male-centered creators are experiencing just now because they're only getting a couple hundred (or worse, a couple thousand) notes on their man-content? That's how the fandom (Criminal Minds, definitely, but a shit ton of other fandoms as well) has always worked, on every platform, for just about anyone who doesn't want to center a male fan favorite in their fandom experience.

9. It was surprisingly hard to choose! But I think my favorite scenes are the ones from the way I rewrote (and significantly improved on) the Barnes arc in Caution to the Wind! I'll post some snippets below the cut, in case anyone is reading/plans on reading that fic and wants to avoid spoilers.

15. Hmmm...you know, I'm really not sure! I mean, I know that I have deliberately copied and pasted entire paragraphs from one fic and reused them in another lol. But as far as things I'm in the habit of doing as a writer, I know I have them, but I'm not sure I could identify them, you know? I'd be interested to hear from readers, though, if they've noticed any patterns in my writing!

“Good,” Barnes replied, “Because you took a huge risk by allowing her to interrogate Desmond Holt. I understand you even allowed her to bring her father into the interrogation room; that’s hardly Bureau protocol.”

“We had no choice,” Emily said, “We couldn’t find Mr. Scratch or Gabriel Lewis without Mr. Holt’s cooperation. In that case, too, Agent Lewis played a pivotal role, and it was thanks to her hard work that we were able to find Gabriel.”

“But not Mr. Scratch.”

“What are you getting at?” Emily asked indignantly.

“Agent Lewis is your blind spot,” Barnes replied, “She’s a brilliant psychologist, but that hasn’t always been reflected in the field. You were still at Interpol when Mr. Scratch was impersonating the Crimson King in Arizona, but—”

“I know what happened on that case, and I know she did nothing wrong,” Emily cut in, “It was a mistake, one that anyone could have made. Now, did you drag me in here to talk about my record as unit chief, or to insult my agent?”

“But she’s not just your agent, is she?” Barnes asked condescendingly, “If she were, you wouldn’t be so riled up right now, when I’ve done nothing but review her performance on some of the cases she’s worked on. Do you ever get like this in the field, Agent Prentiss?”

Emily gritted her teeth to keep from flying off the handle. She had to stand up for her team—especially Tara—but if she fought back too hard, she’d be playing right into Barnes’ hand. Barnes was looking for ammo, and they both knew she wasn’t going to find it in the team’s case files. Emily wasn’t going to give her any in this meeting either, no matter how hard that might be. She just had to keep her cool a little while longer, and then it would all be over, and she could get back to her team.

“You want me to give you a fall guy?” Emily said, “So the Bureau can avoid some bad PR, and you can get a win. You thought if you threatened my career, that I’d play ball.”

“Yours is not the only career I would be concerned about here, Agent Prentiss,” Barnes replied, and Emily read her implications loud and clear. That was the final straw. Emily couldn’t take it anymore, and she snapped.

“Do whatever you want to me, but you stay the hell away from Tara Lewis,” she growled.

“‘Not worth it’—How can you possibly say that?” Spencer scoffed, “How can you possibly say it’s not worth it? After all we’ve been through together, all we’ve survived, all the good we’ve done and the people we’ve helped, you’d really just give up without a fight? You’re really gonna stand there and tell me that the team’s not worth it—that Tara’s not worth it?”

“All of this is for Tara!” Emily cried, “I’m doing this to protect her! Do you have any idea what Barnes can do to her? What Barnes will do to her if I don’t play her game? Tara is brilliant; she is respected in her field. She has worked so hard, and she’s earned her success, and she’s on track to do even more great things, but she risks her career every day just by being with me. The last thing she needs is Linda Barnes creating a scandal where there isn’t one. That’s why I have to step aside.”

“Tara, I’m so sorry,” Emily said.

“Sorry for what?” Tara replied, “You didn’t do any of this.”

“Part of the reason why I didn’t fight the suspension is because Barnes threatened your career,” Emily said, “I wanted to protect you. I thought maybe if I let her punish me, she’d lay off you, but I was wrong. Maybe if I’d fought harder…Maybe if I’d been on the ground with you guys in St. Louis I could have done something—stopped this. I don’t know, I just—I feel like I should have done more to protect you, and I didn’t, and I’m so sorry. You’ve worked so hard to get where you are, and nobody deserves to be in the BAU more than you do, and it’s just not fair that she’s doing this to you—and all because of me.”

“Emily, honey, look at me,” Tara said gently, tilting Emily’s chin up and looking deep into her eyes, “Thank you. It really means a lot that you were willing to sacrifice yourself for me. But it is not your job to protect my career. You’re right—it’s not fair. It’s not fair that someone like Linda Barnes can come along and use the best thing in my life as a wedge to drive both of us out of the BAU. But it’s also not your fault. I know that you want to protect me, and I love you so, so much for that, but you cannot blame yourself for any of this. And you know what? If I could go back and do it all over, I wouldn’t change a thing. If being with you means that my career takes a hit, then so be it, because you, Emily Prentiss, are worth it. So whatever Linda Barnes has in store for us, we’ll get through it together, you and me, baby. Okay?”

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

I know I reuse a lot of the same phrases, I'll admit to that but its never on purpose I'm just fond of some certain sentence structures lol. I also refer to scents/the sense of smell a lot to set a scene because I know how easily smell can trigger a memory.

🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?

YEAH LMAO. Not only have I been blessed that a couple of my fan fic friends have evolved into IRL friends, but my roommate and my close friends also know that I write to some extent. I don't share my actual writing with them but they know its fan fiction lol

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

It depends on the fic!! Usually if its just a one shot, I just go for it. But if something is going to have multiple chapters I do sit down and at minimum I outline where the major plot points go and in which chapter.

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

ANGST!!!!! I absolutely love love love reading a good angst plot point but for the LIFE OF ME I can not write it.

🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?

Once he’s sure he has a good handle on them, he ducks to kiss your cheek in greeting and then clumsily leads you inside. “Leave the rest,” he urges, “I’ll go get it once I set Santa’s entire workshop under the tree.”

Your cheeks heat at his tease, looking down at your shoes as you mumble, “it isn’t that much.” Eddie responds with a hearty laugh, full and genuine, and it blooms more confidence in your chest. When you look up, you see that the ‘tree’ isn’t much more than a string of garland wrapped around a coat rack, but there are handmade and sentimental ornaments strung from it proudly. I just read an eonline article about Zoe and Tay sharing the same pod business and bout near died. The article was hilarious on it’s own but I couldn’t stop thinking about all the ways gaylors could and would spin this and I about near died from laughing. OMG, the entire article... they were like Taylor’s squad is still alive, some friendships never go out of style (lmao with a Kaylor throwback photo) and how Zoe and Tay have been friends for years ( like Kaylor went out of style but not Toë) 💀. The author smoothly dropped love story in there. And their Source. Omg can this source stop saying Taylor and Joe are “really getting to know each other more” and all that. Everytime I see that line i roll my eyes. If your trying to like let the public know that Toe is together and in love maybe use a different phrase to describe people in a 4 year relationship.

This isn’t an exclusive. The “source” is an old Tree snippet - from the exclusive they got on the matching wellies day - not something she said for this Toë piece.

Like this isn’t part of a Taylor press strategy. This is just E! capitalizing on search trends and SEO vibes. Like Taylor is being searched a lot (hence including Love Story, they have to because that’s what people are searching for - and notice they reuse it a bunch including “As for Zoe, her love story came to a close in 2020” that’s not an accident lol it’s so this story pops up and people click that’s how SEO works).

It’s mildly interesting if Toë really made enough of a splash for an SEO spike tho. Like that’s interesting if we’re trying to figure out how much of an impact Gaylorism has on press things and it’s very worth keeping in mind for the “is baiting commercially worthwhile for her” discussion.

Another mildly interesting tidbit from the article is that Jack and Zoe are hanging out for work as well at the moment so like ya this Extremely Hot London Girls and Boys Pod keeps making more and more sense.

So from the tease that we got so far, I think the south is doomed,it looks like red lyrium has spread so far and wide destroyed everything on it's path (like that second picture of the Ferelden styled ruin/building) do you think blight and red lyrium will destroy or at least ruined some part of southern continent like Ferelden? And what about red lyrium in tevinter? Is the red lyrium growth in the north as bad as the south?

Hi Nonnie. This became long so I put it under a cut. TN spoilers beneath

My takeaway from it was bit different in some respects. I would guess that the WIPs were less of a “here’s what’s happened in Thedas between Trespasser and the next game”, and were a bit less specific on the major/main storybeats front than the DWR trailer and than a normal proper trailer would be. I would guess that the WIPs are more like a mini tech demo (a tiny slice of next gen capabilities), a nod to fans to show the franchise is still alive and a reel put together to act as an example of environmental stuff that looks cool while also being something which was suitable/safe to show at a corporate event like EA Play.

I took it as telegraphing the following:

‘Hey guys! DA is still a Thing. DA4 is still coming and it’s in development. Here’s a little snippet to reassure / feed / excite you [delete as appropriate lol] and keep the tiny spark alive. Haha lol we still can’t formally announce the game because top-level leadership rules and NDAs’

‘Wow omg! We’re excited about our next-gen stuff. Get a load of that raytracing (and so forth)'

‘Check it out! It’s red lyrium and stuff. These segments are Noticeably, Recognizably Dragon Age™’

‘This is conceptual. We’re still early in development and can’t show you anything more specific than this’ (compare to the similar early conceptual teases of MEA and Anthem)

In terms of major plot aspects*, I took it as:

Indicating or setting the kind of tone, aesthetic and overall feel the next game will have (‘Ooh ominous - dark - creepy.’), like set pieces or color swatches or a free sample/taster session of something

red lyrium is dangerous and the threat of it and its spread will feature in the plot of the next game. (‘The red lyrium threat shown in the background of DAI as in Emprise is returning, and with a vengeance’; ‘Expect to learn more about red lyrium in the next game’)

‘Omg!! What is that beating mass? Ooh!’

I don’t think we can say for certain that the WIPs are set in the south. It can probably snow in parts of the north of Thedas for one thing (see all that Equator stuff), and since several of the assets in the WIPs such as the bearded statues and skull-topped urns are straight out of DAI, it could be a case of asset reuse. If it’s simple asset reuse, devs were probably just making use of what resources they currently had available or were able to currently show, not trying to telegraph a specific location. Given the statues and urns, it’s possible that the buildings were also reused assets, and so not necessarily specifically Fereldan despite the resemblance. It’s also possible that given the nature of the WIPs as a mini tech demo and as a ‘tone setter’ of sorts, that they weren’t created with any specific location in mind. The game was also rebooted and is still far out from release - things could change and such scenes might not even make into the game (see the Crestwood scenes from the DAI marketing cycle).

About the far and wide and destroying everything in its path, stuff. I don’t doubt red lyrium has spread some and is destructive, but it’s worth mentioning I think, that the three shots we saw look to have been ‘connected’. They seem to have been ‘taken’ in the same place (that place could either be a specific place in Thedas, or just the same ‘set piece’ made for the teaser), going by the similar lighting and how it looks like snow is tracked onto the foreground of the second shot. Example: The mass in the third shot seems like it’s located inside the fortress which is in the top right of the second shot. So it’s possible there’s a tighter ‘focus’ in terms of the spread of red lyrium in the surrounds than what we think.

This is all speculation of course and so I could easily be wrong, but: so, I am unsure about the south being doomed. I do think we’re leaving the south behind, that red lyrium destroys what’s in its path, that it will have spread more by the time of DA4, and that it is a serious problem and is going to be a grave threat faced by Thedas and the PC and crew in the next game. (This was shown in the background plot in Emprise.) Just more like, the threat of red lyrium dooming whole regions is something we will be contending with and trying to stop in the narrative, or at the very least is something which will be part of the backdrop to plotbeats (like why Solas is doing his thing). Would they change whole nations so dramatically like that off-screen between-games, effectively removing or drastically ‘reducing’ those nations as settings? That’s a lot more of a radical change than “And now the Qunari are invading.” They might, that would be something different to what’s been done previously and so be dramatic and new, and you could potentially have an updated south which amounts to ‘Red Lyrium Future Ferelden and Red Lyrium Future Orlais’, but idk. The south doesn’t have to be doomed to cause a narrative move north. I’m thinking about how in DAO, the Fifth Blight threatened to spread across and ruin all Ferelden, but it was stopped and only really properly environmentally scarred parts in the far south near the Wilds. If they did do this, I would expect the story to have a big influx of refugees from Ferelden and Orlais travelling north to escape the issue. I feel like that’s something we’ve already seen before, that was already explored in the Fereldan refugees crossing the Waking Sea and the effects of the influx on Kirkwall in DA2.

I think red lyrium is a major threat to the world (a threat of doom, to all nations, north and south), and that it will have spread further than it had before by the time of the next game. This was seeded as a beat in DAI (literally in the nodes of lyrium in the land and metaphorically in the lore in codexes and such). I think this spread would at least ruin or seriously damage certain regions in the south and possibly elsewhere before the next game, like what we could expect to have happened as a result of the expanding spread in the region of Emprise despite the Inquisition’s efforts. I think it’ll feature prominently in the narrative and that we’ll learn more about it in terms of Dramatic Lore Reveals (considering the intersection it has with the Taint/Blight and the corrupted fleshy sacs in the WIPs). I’m hesitant in thinking that the south more as a whole has been doomed by red lyrium by the time of DA4, and in thinking that’s what the WIPs are saying. Hope this makes sense. 😰 Ofc, all any of us are doing when speculating about the trailer is guessing, so who knows really. 😄

About red lyrium growth in the north: We know less about its growth in the north than we do about its growth in the south. It does seem that it is worse in the south, because after the Breach opened, nodes of it began appearing throughout the surface of the south. The aforementioned Emprise du Lion is the best example of this so far. Makes sense, aside from the Breach it’s in the south that the red lyrium idol was found and in the south that the red templars were largely operating. I do think it’s still a big threat to the north though - it’s clear from stories in Tevinter Nights that some Magisters in Tevinter are messing with it (e.g. the Wigmaker’s experiments) and that remnants of the Venatori are still active in parts of Tevinter. In DAI we saw the Venatori just like the red templars messing with red lyrium: poisoning the well in Wycome, trying to start a supply line in Antiva, trying to smuggle it from the Storm Coast to Minrathous in order to convert the Imperium's slaves into an unstoppable army to turn the tide in the war with the Qunari for Seheron.. (TN was also careful to present us with similar instances of Tevinter nationalism and Tevene desire to restore the glory of the Imperium.. And here we note that both Antiva and Minrathous are northern locations). Stupid behavior like that is exactly how this kind of dangerous thing gets out of control and spreads. And so, I’m sure we can expect to see red lyrium threatening the northern regions in a serious way in DA4.

* I mean I still have been and am gonna speculate wildly and overanalyze, but primarily because doing so is fun for me

Random Au #1

I will just popped Aus for couples I like, damnit that I have to many ( the agony of being an multi-fandom shipper lol).

This one is for Nero and Kyrie with all the dynamic Alpha and Omega.

Some infos in this could be reused for other pairings ( I'm thinking of Saiino, lmao).

+ Nero is an alpha. The number of alphas in Fortunian is quiet rare really, with fingers-counting numbers to be exact. Most of the Fortuna population is made up with Betas and Omegas.

+ So rare that Alphas is greatly respected by others and have many privileges such as having multiple wives, priority access to festivals, shops,....

+ Forgot to mention first that they still retain their human forms and changing back to their animal state had become a taboo subject to talk about or practice.

+ That's where our boi rock the stage as a main target of hatred even if he's an alpha ( boi, the hate went on and on from game to au, I'm a sucker for Nero litterally being a loner wolf). Instead of badass Devil Bringer, he got the ability to shapeshift back in to his wolf form from young age.

+ Not like he ask for it but he have 1/4 of the blood of the great Werewolf Sparda.

+ Kay, he fences himself by his smell for Alphas have sweat glands scent that will express dominace over lower rank ones.

+ It's like this: You have your own scent but the higher the rank you are, the denser your scent. Also your personality and emotions play greatly on how your scent smell and the intensity of it.

+ Kyrie is a cinnamon roll Omega ( fight me haters, no one will bad mouth my bundle of sunshine). Minus the godamn useless factor of how the game have developed her( she deserve more people). She help out in the medical wing of the Headquarter, she cook meals for Credo and Nero, sometimes bring it to the headquarter for both of them and take care both of them for Nero often gets carried away with fighting and Credo is a workaholic.

+ She is not scared to speak up her mind, often scowling the two above for their carelessness in looking after themselves. But she keep to herself mostly when interacting with others so she is often mistaken as shy and mudane.

+ But don't anger her if you were caught bad mouthing Nero,ooh, you gonna get your ass kicked. Growing up with two Alphas working as Holy Knights, Kyrie has picked up a few moves without etheir of the two knowing by watching them train, mostly in hand combat.

+ Ayy, let's not forget the hormone or puberty part yo. Although Nero is hated by many, girls in Fortuna still give him hinted glances and seductive cat calling when he is alone, made it a one night stand mostly. ( those robust arms and muscular arms from all the demons hunting are not only for showing you know). But Nero ignores them cause he can smell those putrid scents emitting from those two-faced women for their dirty intention.

+Kyrie, on the other hand, receive a fair amount of attention from males, sometimes even older ones worth her father ages (yuck!). But they never dare to approach her as they regconize Nero's scent all over her without her being aware of said scent. Some that are brave enough, several Betas and one or two alphas, dare to asking her out. But after introducing theirselves to her family and one date, they all apologize and never talk to her again.

+ Kyrie is confused, Credo just doesn't care for he didn't see any worthiness of any of those boy for his precious sister, Nero just pretend he is busy listening to edgy rock music while in the inside he is fill with smugness.

+ During the heat cycles of female, all females are to stay with their partner(s). If single, they must be precautious by staying at home or to always carry a scent masked perfume.

+ A duel can break out between two males in claiming mate. Whoever win get to mark their mate's neck by biting on the side it.

So the Au mostly follow the orginal game storyline or you can break it into snippets or stories of different settings.

1) Some summerevent entries written but pending editing. Hopefully I"ll get to those by Aug 14.

2) There’s a crazy Frankenstein fic that I’ve been trying to write for like 6+ months. It’s a Frankenstein who didn’t take Rai’s long absence as well as he did in canon. Add to that, Rai awoke somewhere and took M21 under him before Frank stumbled on him, and cue massive jealousy and insecurity, and Frankenstein trying to make M21 disappear without hurting his Master. Its pretty much a reverse situation to D!R, just here Frankenstein is unstable. A rough snippet written i don’t even now how many months ago where Frankenstein had M21 cornered badly for a while:

“…”

“What? No witty remark?” Frankenstein chuckled.

There was a beat, and then the enhanced human parted his lips.

“…I just want to live.”

Frankenstein had expected defiance, maybe even anger, a few mock tears, but not this. It hadn’t even been 2 full days and he had already given up? Something rose within him, anger, frustration? No it was…

“You know you really disappoint me” He looked down at M21

"You wouldn’t be the only one” The kid had the audacity to laugh. The mocking tone, Frankenstein didn’t know if it as directed at himself, or towards Frankenstein.

"Is that so? He mused. How many others had he ruined then. Had he perhaps been overestimating his opponent? Frankenstein looked closely at the kid.

Human, not more than his twenties or thirties, fit but lean…he could see the scar on his lips and the bags under his eyes. He could feel the fear radiating from him, and Frankenstein wondered what had he been doing all this time? Was it just a harmless human he had let so much on his mind that he’d lost sight of the real capability of his opponent?

It was just a human boy…

Frankenstein was suddenly disgusted with himself. What has his life become. How far gone was he to lead to this situation.

Had half a mind to submit it to summarevent as ‘Disillusioned’ lol. M21 here is like the only reason I was with Rai was to hide from Union, but if I have to face even crazier scientists here, then I’m better off on my own. This was to follow the canon timeline of DA-5 kidnapping M21 and Frankenstein was then like oh shit, I lost Masters toy human, what now? Better follow and keep an eye for a while.

There was another scene where M21 had asked DA-5 to bring him Ramen remembering Rais home, but then flashed Frankenstein insane face in his mind, and he’s so displeased he’s like "Never mind, I don’t want any ramen”. Anything but ramen, Frankenstein shame on you for making his adoptive house hell for him! Franken will eventually redeem himself spectacularly saving M21 and tag teaming villains etc eventually. He’s gonna take care of him well like normal Franken soon no worries. But this story is never going to get written ;_;

3) Meta analysis of some of M21s quirks like he freezes when things are too shocking, he just blanks out regardless of whats happening around him. I find this very cute and very harmful for someone who’s in trouble as often as him.

4) Analysis of the art, and the reuse of backgrounds every chapter so we can all rest assured that the artist know what he’s doing and mostly likely not pushing himself to sickness?

5) Some arts and edits. A smiling M21 art is my no. 1 goal after a few weeks.

Basically there’s a lot of Noblesse stuff, which is never going to get done TT

I found your Kat Cadash through Dawn's OC event and I AM IN LOVE. Can you tell me more about them? Maybe specifically what their maritime ties are because I'm a simple person with simple interests and a one track mind?

lmao honestly kat is my shameless self-insert dwarven pirate and most of their maritimer aspects & background specifically comes from my own experiences growing up in miramichi w/ a francophone mom & an anglophone dad

ramblin on about kat under the cut~

i’ll be usin she and they pronouns interchangeably for kat lmao

they’re a rogue, classed as a “wayfinder” - a pirate with exceptional skill in navigation and knows how to read the stars. smart, quick-thinking, and very hands on. she’s practical to her core, but with a certain degree of flare. petty, definitely. sarcastic and bitter and always some form of low-key angry.

her mom, Den Cadash, was a smuggler with the carta before she met Athlok Adaar, who was a merc. The two of them ended up blowing off their employers and running away from the free marches to the storm coast to settle down together. The carta tried coming after Den, but Den and Athlok’s combined ferocity kept them safe and got the carta of their asses.

Den and Athlok settled down and had two kids, Kat who took on the dwarven look and Nymeria who took on the qunari look. They grew up on the storm coast, with Athlok becoming the village carpenter / handyman / repair guy / helpful dude(tm) and Den doing paintings, translations, & community cooking. Kat went fishing with her father a lot and quickly developed an attachment to the seas, no matter how rough they got.

which den was ecstatic about, since hey she loves the sea too, but like... yo... not a great idea for her to straight up encourage her daughter to go away sailing when the only use for a dwarf on ships was as a carta smuggler. den’s trying to go good and trying to keep the carta off her and her family’s collective asses, she can’t exactly protect a daughter to run straight to the carta.

but kat’s sea attachment ain’t exactly dying, so den does her best to encourage her kid to keep to legit stuff, like fishing.

which was good for awhile, but then the carta finally caught up to them. den and kat schemed together to get the carta to fuck off, and their plan involved teaming up with a group of pirates on the coast to drive them out. after they successfully drove the carta away, den returned to her quiet life. and though it wouldn’t have been her own choice, den supported kat when kat chose to stay with the pirates for awhile.

after a few years the old captain passed on, leaving her ship to Kat. the crew split up, with some leaving and a few staying with Kat. from their they went on with their smuggling and sailing to their hearts desires with Kat as captain.

by the time inquisition roles around, Kat volunteers their crew to act as smugglers, since her sister Nymeria’s the one with the anchor. Kat mostly smuggles in lyrium and ingredients, but on the rare occasion that the Inquisitor’s party goes off to the free marches, Kat’s ship is the one that ferries them over.

as for maritime connections specifically? kat’s a social drinker, tends to greet people positively and with a “hows she goin?,” always responds to that question with “very best,” and tends towards using maritimer slang. as pessimistic and sarcastic as she is inside, she tends to try to act outgoing and cheery most of the time, since that’s what their parents did.

ofc there’s the sailing stuff too. Kat grew up on the sea, learning how to sail and read the stars directly from her mom, and learning how to build and repair things from her dad. she reuses things, makes new things out of old things, and wields a small crossbow of her own design.

kat’s decent at fishing as well, though nymeria was always the better cook. they always work together to make something nice for their crews to eat whenever kat’s pirate crew & nymeria’s merc crew team up.

and growing up in a small village naturally means that everyone knows everything about everyone, which makes Kat a natural at just knowing things about people and remembering snippets of what she overhears.

they also took heavy inspiration from stan roger’s music, trailer park boys, great big sea, and most of what ive experienced myself here lol

im probably forgetting a bit but if i think of anything else of import ill throw it in lol~ kats also got a tag over here for more info~
