speaking of Quinn and religion, one thing that's always baffled me is that I do think S1 wants to set up the black comedy of the "Queen of the Chastity Ball" getting knocked up, and it's supposed to be a whole commentary on celibacy, religious hypocrisy, etc. But I've never fully understood why they didn't truly lean into that? Because what the rest of Quinn's arc through S3 shows us is that honestly she's NOT a hypocrite about this. She believed in waiting. She was sincere in her faith. Her big slip-up was super dubious and a one time thing. For how much we've been told we were meant to hate Quinn in S1, I wonder why RIB didn't have her sleeping with the entire football team except Finn, having her play the nice girl around her parents then being knowingly cynical about using her religion as a disguise. It would still even work to contrast her with Santana, one being unapologetically sexual, the other hanging onto her pristine rep while doing the exact same things privately. It would've been such an easy way to make sure the audience sees her as the villain and tbh, might have better fit the dark humor of S1. That they didn't go that path is more proof to me that RM was ALWAYS writing Quinn as an empathetic character, even if he wasn't aware of it.
Alright alright, not gonna put off answering this because it's an amazing topic I wanna keep discussing or as long as y'all have thoughts.
Completely agree, they never lean into it. Not nearly as much as this ostensibly satire show should have. I often think about that, the deliberate irony of framing Quinn as ultra-religious and having her be the president of a damn Celibacy Club just to have her get knocked up. After having sex once, too. A better show would have a) leaned in and b) examined how society treats those who cross the madonna-whore threshold. Even in terms of the cheerleading stereotypes that the Unholy Trinity all check, it's ultimately Quinn who gets portrayed as a whore because she's the one with "evidence" that she's had sex. Brittana are much, much more promiscuous, yeah, but there's something about teen pregnancy as the ultimate symbol of sexual transgression. But, like you say, Quinn wasn't actually a hypocrite about all this.
I think she was also scarred from the pregnancy emotionally, understandably, but the only times she uses her sexuality after this in high school are when she's clearly unhinged. I.e. trying to make another baby with Puck. She wants to take things slow with Sam, completely understands Joe's perspective, and I for one seriously doubt Fuinn ever actually had sex. All that happened with Beth's conception was Puck taking advantage of her. But Glee season 1 just,,, does not get this. They so badly want Quinn to be this hypocritical bitch who cheats on her boyfriend and gets knocked up and isn't all that virginal after all. But even if we didn't see the actual scene, and oh boy do we, that narrative would still be dubious. Simply put, Quinn isn't the character Glee thinks they're writing.
I've said this so many times in so many ways but the bottom line remains the same. The writers did not know what kind of character they were writing. And there's a lot to be said about how RM reacted to that, goddammit I still haven't talked about that Rolling Stone interview, but at the end of the day we just have these facts within the show itself. And this is how I try to explain my frustrations with season 1 to people. Later seasons Quinn is a whole convo, too, but s1 always feels particularly insidious to me.
In terms of how you would have written it, yeah I think that would have worked better with what they were trying to do. There's still the contrast to Brittana so a chance for Quinn's redemption, but this villanizing would at least make more sense. She really would be a hypocrite and not just... a victim. But no, instead they wrote the story of a clear victim. I don't give a fuck if she happens to be rude to Finn and lie to him, yeah that's messed up but the dude is also actively cheating on her, so. Lest we feel too bad for him. It just sucks so much that RM was so, so unaware of the Quinn he was writing. Makes season 1 in particular incredibly frustrating to me, I can't believe there are people out there who consider this to be her best season. Why do you hate her so much?

he held me — gently. almost too gently, as if parts of me had broken and dispersed and he gathered his hands around me like encircling sand. like he was trying to remind me that i had a shape i could return back to, when the tides receded for long enough, but his arms would be that container until i could do it on my own. in that cloud of grief and the ticking clock, i could feel something in me becoming loose and undone, and it was a terrifying transformation — sublimated into another form of myself i couldn't recognize. but it was still still a form he did.
was doing dishes and then got inspired for some reason. i was thinking about kavetham for this bc they r my heart's recipient for hurt comfort. i love messing around with imagery and metaphors!!!!! the vivid image of kaveh slowly breaking down in alhaitham's arms while he is also breaking down, but as an act of transformation and being afraid about being vulnerable!!! alhaitham who knows when to hold kaveh tight as to override any overwhelming physical sensations of grief and when to hold him loosely so that he might be allowed the space to unspool his tangled threads and the vulnerability to lay down the worst of himself in the open!!
i love them a lot.... they bring me much comfort :'))

@lysistra tagged me in the "your URL as songs" challenge! THANKS! :D
P - Pyromance - Chemlab
one of my favorite songs. the guitar flickering like a flame in the beginning, the build, the rhythm, the lyrics: "my battery got a surge from my finger triggering your spark plug". fuck yeah.
Y - Yield to Force - Drab Majesty
ethereal, dreamlike, floyd-esque wall of sound you can get lost in.
L - Looking Glass - The Birthday Massacre
one of the first goth-adjacent bands I got into in high school. still one of the catchiest songs ever imo. 90s-inspired snare upbeats 🔛 🔝
O - Offer Your Light - Devin Townsend Project
great song to listen to when I feel like hot garbage. love that dual guitar riff during the latter two choruses and the heat filter effect coming out of that interlude.
N - Noise - Nightwish
this was my most listened to song on my wrapped a couple years ago. idk Nightwish just fucks. and I like the lyrics for this one... ominous...
I - I'll Keep Coming - Low Roar
even wayyyy before I played Death Stranding I was obsessed with this song after seeing that first trailer. the BUILD... 😩❤️
U - Uprising - Flesh Field
MY FAVORITE FLESH FIELD SONG! the contrast between a beat that slaps your ass into the stratosphere and that slow halftime chorus with the guitar is so gooooooooooodddddddddddd.
M - Makina Fifth - Ugress
I'm such a hoe for chiptune. Ugress is one of my favorite, underrated electronic artists. check him out.
-------
If you see this and you want to do it, go for it! some of y'all have long/strange URLS lol so I wanna leave it open haha.

Last Song: Knock by Lee Chaeyeon. It's the catchiest song imaginable and it will never ever ever ever leave my head. 😅 Knock na-na-na-na-knock knock knock na-na-na-knock knock knocking on yo-our heart 🤜🚪💖
youtube
Last Show: This is hard because I don't really watch shows much anymore. I mostly stick to YouTube and audiobooks...you know stuff I can throw on in the background because I have a million things to do and no attention span. However, the second part of the last season of Manifest just came out on Netflix and I'm fixing to lose my mind watching it, so let's say that one. Future show, last show, it's all relative, time is an illusion.
Currently watching: See previous lmao.
Currently reading: Pretty much a similar answer. I don't have much of an attention span or time to sit down and read a physical book with my eyeballs anymore but I listen to audiobooks a lot. Right now, I'm finishing up Bare-faced Messiah by Russell Miller, which is a biography of L. Ron Hubbard, the creator of Scientology. It...explains a lot, let's just say that. 😬
Current Obsession: Probably a weird answer but my kitchen. 😮 Those of you who have read my insane ramblings lately (omg thank you but also I'm sorry lol) know that I recently embarked upon a depression cleaning quest in my house and while I'm not completely finished, my living room and my kitchen are ✨flawless✨ rn and I want to cry big sloppy joy tears every time I go out there. My kitchen in particular is my new happy place. It's been so long since I've seen clean counterspace. I can cook real food again! I've never enjoyed cooking in the past but I'm living for it right now. It's so nice to be able to move around and have everything be sanitary and organized again. THIS WAS PROBABLY MORE THAN ANYONE WANTED TO KNOW, SORRY lmao
Tag time! Everyone has probably already done this but let's see here. @softle0, @cozygirlsimmer, @hurricanesims, @cowplanty, @treason-and-plot, @simstryingtheirbestok, @frostedshore, @immdreamz, @ktarsims, @sharssims, @hazely-sims
I think that was more than 9 but I refuse to count because I'm a lil rebel. 😎 Love y'all!

By the by - I think, having given you all a bit of something to chew on, I'm going to move the post initially scheduled for today over to tomorrow, because I'd like to do some last-minute fact-checking on it due to it being a...weirdly complicated topic. You'll see what I mean.
In the meanwhile, I've reworked the tagging system to be less emoji-dependent and thus easier to use, if you haven't seen, and I've also added a couple new tags. Cabin fever is what I've settled on for cabin interiors, and blue side up is unfortunately the catchiest I've yet been able to come up with for the phenomenon of blue top and white underside which so many planes seem to have, which I am perhaps disproportionately interested in collating. Thank you to the people who requested Aerolíneas Argentinas and Air Tahiti Nui, which will be joining the tag in the near future.

@curlicuecal tagged me into the post meme about ten songs! I'll go ahead and post ten songs by ten artists that I've been particularly fixated on lately, it's all personal bias all the way down, babey
Colm McGuinness: Sleeping In The Cold Below - Let's start off with a representative sample, my head is filled with folk and filk and irish and shanties, just check out this artist for a clear breakdown of my tastes, because I could fill out the whole list with just this man's work. Musically speaking, if I could grow up to be anyone, it would be HIM. I yearn so hard for his instrument collection and vocal range, even if I'm operating in different octaves.
Malinda: Dúlamán - Feels slightly like cheating, because I'm fairly sure I found her through Colm McGuinness (the Hoist The Colors collab), but god, her voice is DIVINE, and she's got a fantastic balance of trad covers and newer music. Songs in gaelic can be tricky to rec, even if I'm about to do it again, but some of them just have so much bewitching LIFE that I can't resist.
Celtic Woman: Téir Abhaile Riú - I have to tell you, it was both disorienting and delightful when this started getting used as a sound in tiktoks. The short excerpt is good, but the whole song is so much fun! I know it's kind of redundant to talk up Irish songs as being catchy as hell, but this is really such a good one.
The Longest Johns: On The Railroad - Speaking of catchy... I'm a basic binch, give me a train song that sounds like a train, and I'm all over that to an embarrassing degree. Skimbleshanks isn't going to be on here, but only because it'd be cheating, I wasn't thinking about it until I started thinking about why I like this. And you get a train song that's ALSO a work song? Hell yes, gimme
Great Big Sea: Process Man - I agonized over what Great Big Sea song to include (old black rum? donkey riding? excursion around the bay?) but this is truly such a classic, it's so catchy and memorable. And it's great if you're feeling like an exploited #resource at your day job!
The High Kings: McAlpine's Fusiliers - Speaking of being an exploited, expendable resource, ONE LAST IRISH SONG. But I can't leave this out! The High Kings are so good, but McAlpine's Fusiliers is the CATCHIEST melody line by any artist. I am typing slowly because I have no choice to sing along since I opened the video to get the url, send help
Hozier: The Humours Of Whiskey - You know I really intended to have other flavors of music on here too, but. Again, the song is too catchy for me to resist. This is only a partial cover of the full song, because he's just doing it offhand. But his voice is so perfect and the delivery so flawless, I live for this 52 second clip, haha
Delta Rae: Bottom Of The River - Technically I am showing a little more range than previous entries have done, but uh, I know that's only barely/technically true. But there's so much good stuff in this weird corner! And my mainest criteria for how much I like music is how fun it is to sing along, and this is seriously peak singalong content.
The Merry Wives Of Windsor: Siuil A Run: Oh no, another gaelic title. But it's also partly in english, and this is another song I'll listen to by anyone who covers it, and another group where I'll listen to any music they produce! I recommend their entire back catalog, very strongly. Fair warning they have a notable bawdy portion of their catalog, but I'm being good and not linking something like 'come roll me away,' or 'the cockerel song,' so you can listen without fear. But they are SUCH a fun group, I love them to bits.
Mary Black: Colcannon - Ah, screw it, I have a brand. Let's wrap it up with a song that's literally about potatoes! Also an impossibly catchy melody. This song has been stuck in my head since it absolutely Ruined me with homesickness back in grad school. And you know what, I'm also linking this bonus version with worse audio, but it's a 1986 recording of the black family on tv. There's just something about watching irish singing that makes me LIVE.
--
oh no, tagging people. I'm chickening out, sorry. If you want to do it and point your finger at me, go for it! but it's been a long week and I contracted a bad case of the Shy it looks like

nine (9) people you'd like to know better
I got tagged by the wonderful @five4boarding and tumblr never gives me a little +1 notification icon when I get tagged in anything (like any other type of note would, so I don’t get it!!), so I live in fear that I’m always gonna miss these BUT I caught this one at least 👉😎👉
Last song: during my morning walk I randomly remembered the catchiest depression bop and then remembered the first time I looked up the guy's wiki and saw that he played hockey and I was like you're telling me a knife-footed ice-gremlin sang this???? (swiss juniors but still high level for his age bracket I think?) Anyway... Tomorrow May Not Be Better (specifically this version https://open.spotify.com/track/0V1quXmlVC6eH5kcfYPWEW ) by Bastian Baker still slaps to this very day 😌👌
Currently watching: My longstanding guilty pleasure is docs/commentary videos about any and all scams, particularly mlms/pyramid schemes. So it should come as no surprise that my brand new guilty pleasure is debt confessions/financial audits on youtube 🙈 I've been been watching a few by caleb hammer whose gimmick is that he gordon ramsey style shames people who come in with their financial records and he's like hey. why do you have $120,000 in consumer debt? why did you finance an ipad for your literal infant child?? why have you spent 30 dollars multiple times a day every day at dunkin for the last 3 months??? (the last one is an exaggeration but the first two I have seen LOL). His thumbnails are wretched I hate them so, so much, and his advice of living spartan-like for a few years to dig yourself out of the hole is ehhh maybe good in theory but generally not exactly...practical. And I think going cold turkey when you're used to constant impulse buying is basically a recipe for just eventually losing control and going on a bender. But. I'm nosy and love hearing about how people be spending their money so that's the best part of the videos for me lol
Currently reading: haven't picked up something new yet BUT I juuuust finished An Unauthorised Fan Treatise which was SO GOOD I literally slammed it nonstop for two days until I finished it. It's formatted like a rpf conspiracy theory livejournal where a fangirl of a supernatural-drama show compiles evidence that the two lead actors are secretly dating. BUT it's noted that the livejournal has been submitted as evidence into for a murder trial so y'know TWISTS AND TURNS lol. There's just something about the format that really compels me, idk I already love reading primers and conspiracies for hrpf couples that I literally have zero investment in and never will- I just enjoy the way the girlies spin a good narrative. (and also watching video essays about the uhhh less casual to super trainwreck ones like the whole larry fiasco even though I never got into 1D, as well as general fandom fiascos like msscribe and snapewives etc etc IT'S ALL SO FASCINATING TO ME 🍿👀) So it was a really natural fit for me to read in a fictional setting. And it's free to read! https://gottiewrites.com/2019/10/14/31/
Current obsession: I’m a hobbyist game maker so at all times I am rotating little bits of character development, experimental mechanics, aesthetics, ui design etc etc in my brain but it becomes much more mentally consuming during the off-season bc god knows when bruins hockey is live it is Featured Live 24/7 In My Brain. But for now... my OCs on my mind 😌💭
tagging (if you want to): OH NO I’M SO BASHFUL I NEVER KNOW WHO TO TAG IN THESE 🫣🫣🫣 uh uh uhh maybe @ghostgeno @alavenderleaf @tylerbertuzzi @reavenedges-lies @krugstrash if y’all are so inclined?? but also no pressure no pressure again I’m just NOSY hehe

honestly i am lowkey obsessed with how terrible we didn’t start the fire is at being a song while also being among the the catchiest songs ever
this is a song that includes a man screaming CHILDREN OF THALIDOMIDE and then the next lyric is buddy holly, ben hur / space monkey, mafia
it is just one man, listing historical events more or less in order with no context or end and then layering in a chorus so catchy you will BEG YOUR BRAIN to stop thinking about it
i just appreciate that level of aimless, technically skilled chaos for some reason
eta i know why he wrote it oh god please stop telling me, just because billy joel lived through these events doesn’t make them not historical events and i like the song you don’t have to defend it to me, billy joel even agrees, CHILL

not to be an old cranky leftist but going forward i think those of us who live in the us need to remember a protest is not a group powerwalk to register polite disapproval with those in power
a protest is an implied threat. a protest says there are a lot of us, and we do not like what you’re doing. we are giving you a chance to course correct before we take things to the next level.
if there’s no shared commitment to the potential of moving to that next level: a protest is useless and essentially just public performance art.

8 shows to know you
tagged by: @council-of-beetroot
You all will notice hetalia is not on the list and that's bc I don't actually remember the last time I watched hetalia and also you already know I like that show. Also all of these are on Netflix cept for The Office and Superstore which are on Peacock, and Perfect Strangers which is on this app called Freevee.
Norsemen
Tumblr media
actually my favorite show ever you don't understand. I've watched it upwards of two dozen times, it never gets old. Esp cause the first few times I watched it I had it through an app that censored all the dirty jokes so watching it again was like a whole new show. So mad at Netflix for canceling it :(
2. A Series of Unfortunate Events
Tumblr media
Violet influenced 97% of my personality. Justice Strauss is the reason I want so desperately to be on the supreme court one day, I will cry every time I watch this show. goodness. The catchiest theme song.
3. The Good Place
Tumblr media
tbh I probably watched this show at an age where I should not have been watching this show yet but also it's the reasoning I started questioning certain stuff I had been told my whole life
4. Perfect Strangers
Tumblr media
my comfort show, Balki and Larry deserve the world I believe in them wholeheartedly. they could do nothing wrong, even though in every episode they did something wrong bc we gotta have a moral.
5. The Office
Tumblr media
I apologize in advance. I know it's dumb. But this was the first adult show I was allowed to watch, and also the first show I ever watched that had an openly gay character in it. Oscar Nunez needs to know he was game changing for at least me.
6. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
Tumblr media
My actual favorite anime, my gf got me hooked on this show like 2 years ago and now it's me and my brothers favorite to watch together. I just rlly enjoy how everyone thinks they're the main character except for y'know the main character, also nuerodivergent vibes like bro trying SO HARD to be average is The Real Struggle.
7. Barbarians
Tumblr media
my second favorite historical drama--after Norsemen--literally everything about this show is perfection. I'm high key mad they didn't keep up the whole using wolves as symbolism; they've always been there but with absolutely conflicting stories Fenrir vs Lupa. Both sides of my guy.
8. Superstore
Tumblr media
kinda like the office but instead of office jobs its a big box store. Ten out of ten, Dina scares me but if I were to meet her irl I would have total respect. I want to give Glenn a hug, that is all.
tagging: @hetagrammy, @the-gremlins-hotel, @betty-bourgeoisie obviously don't feel pressured if you don't want to do it.

Thank you for the tag, @greenlikethesea !!
🎧🎵 when you get this, you have to put in 5 songs you actually listen to at the moment. Then tag 5-10 followers to do the same. 🎵🎧
Okay I literally just pulled this from my Spotify On Repeat…I apologize for the genre whiplash in advance 😅 I listen to a lot of stuff and honestly I’m glad this isn’t just 70s English acid folk music bc sometimes that’s how things are. Here goes:
1. MAMA - GIMS
I am an unapologetic GIMS fan. Is my French good enough to understand his lyrics? Not usually. Does he write some of the catchiest bops I’ve ever listened to? Yes. Is his new album an auditory masterpiece I have listened to on repeat for the past week? Abso-fucking-lutely. I’m not going to include the other songs from this album on this list of songs but every one of the top 5 spots of my On Repeat is from there. Other faves include HORIZON, SANS ARRET (don’t @ me I don’t have a French keyboard on my phone anymore) and COMME SI.
2. Dance This Mess Around - The B-52’s
It has been a rough fall and I love The B-52’s. This song is extremely unhinged and brings me intense joy. I have nothing else to say, besides that if you have not heard this band’s self-titled first album in its entirety, and you love both Rock Lobster and Love Shack…you might want to give it a try.
3. Come In Stranger - Ian & Sylvia
I warned you about the genre whiplash, right??? This is on my winter solstice playlist, which I listen to endlessly every December. It’s extremely charming and makes my heart hurt a bit.
4. The Splitting of the Islands - The Islander Soundtrack
I have also been listening to this soundtrack on repeat since I came back from my trip to see my wife in mid-November. Have I mentioned that I listen to albums on repeat when I’m stressed. But this is a VERY good soundtrack and 10/10 to sing along to and gives me Bonus!WifeFeels, so there is literally no downside here. One day it is actually my goal to take my wife to all the musicals they are unable to go see currently (shhhhh, don’t tell them) so I get a little teary about the idea of going to Scotland to see this one.
5. Loud and Clear - The Cranberries
I…have also been listening to this album on repeat 😅😅 It’s very comforting to me in a nostalgic, late 90’s kind of way and incredibly cathartic to sing along to. The Cranberries at their rocking best. 1000/10
Now that I’ve subjected you all to my music hyperfixations… I’m going to tag @on-my-way-to-lesser-things and @hestiashollow and let them take it away if they wish!!! And anyone else who wants to join in, consider yourself tagged <333
(Also pls excuse the embedded video; I’m on mobile and cannot figure out how to get rid of it, lol)

August walks around the house humming something all the time, today was no different. I was in the laundry room loading the washer when I heard him this time.
That sounds so familiar. Raising an eyebrow I realized it was the tune he’d been humming the past few days. Hmm, maybe that’s why it sounds so... oh my god. “No way.” I whispered as he began to sing it out loud.
“I wish I could be the perfect daughter, but I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try”, he walked into the kitchen, not realizing I was still in the laundry room. I peaked around the corner.
He had kept his voice on the low side, “Every turn I take, every trail I track, every path I make, every road leads back,” probably not even on purpose, “to the place I know where I cannot go, where I long to be”, gradually growing louder.
Grabbing a mug down from the cabinet to fix himself some coffee he belted out the chorus. “See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me! And no one knows how far it goes!” I walked into the kitchen holding our daughters favorite nightgown, Moana and Maui smiling proudly from the front. “Maybe I'll get you one to match?”
He never faltered. The CIAs best assassin just got caught singing, arguably, the catchiest Disney princess song. He just looked at my smirking face, and smiled, “if you can get it in grey that’d be perfect.” He walked away, sipping coffee, humming the rest of the lyrics.

Joy List - Music Edition! 🧡
I was tagged by our beloved @whatwouldmickeydo to make a list of musical moments which bring me joy. What an amazing idea!
The Two Minutes To Late Night crew at Psycho Las Vegas covering Believe by Cher with Melany Parsons, Sacha Dunable, and Ben Koller.
The entire Two Minutes to Late Night bedroom cover series is incredible but I've watched this video of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill with Emma Ruth Rundle on vocals (plus some other very cool beloved dudes) a hundred times.
Mutoid Man covering The Trooper ft. Dave Davidson and Carina Zachary on Two Minutes to Late Night.
And finally, possibly the most insane TMTLN bedroom cover video: NOW That's What I Call A Metal 90s Club Mix.
How many times have I cried while listening to Sapphire by Alcest? There is no telling. This is a perfect song by a perfect band.
Unfortunately I can't link to a video of the time I saw Ira Glass at a Propagandhi show, so instead here's Victory Lap, a song I love that happens to be featured in Shameless.
Howling Giant's gorgeous, meandering, otherworldly 20-minute epic, Masamune.
I'm not one for supergroups usually, but Killer Be Killed rules and a couple of the dudes in this band are absolute faves. Dream Gone Bad might have one of the coolest, catchiest hooks I've ever heard in my life.
Baroness playing Tourniquet from their respective homes last year and making me cry.
This crappy video of AFI playing Strength Through Wounding & The Leaving Song pt2 that really captures the unique energy of being at an AFI show where the crowd just knows their part and they sing and scream so passionately and it gives me goosebumps and makes me miss shows so badly.
Mastodon's live set from home for Adult Swim last year, particularly Steambreather.
Khemmis covering Rainbow in the Dark by Dio and having the most fun with it.
And there are so many new songs from this year that make me feel so very many things, and some of them are:
In Blur by Deafheaven.
Twisted Tongues by AFI.
Clean by Rivers of Nihil.
All Futures by The Armed.
Red Fang never disappoints with their music videos, and I fucking love Arrows.
Converge's insane collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe, Steve Brodsky and Ben Chisholm: Blood Moon (which is going to be an entire goddamn album ohmygod)
This list can get enormous if I let it, but I'm gonna keep it here. I think this is good. I believe many people have been tagged, but I'm gonna give it a shot and tag @howlinchickhowl @gallawitchxx @grossmickey @gallavictorious @sickness-health-all-that-shit @10x12 @southside-forever @tectonicduck @mickeymilkovichenthusiast This is a huge undertaking, so if you don't want to do it it's entirely understandable! In that case just consider this me saying hello.
