a while back you mentioned bran being a fisher king type of figure if he becomes king. i am so intrigued by that concept. can you tell us more?
so full disclosure, I don't have a great deal of familiarity with Arthurian legend or British/Welsh mythology, which is what the Fisher King really draws upon, so I don't think I can say anything of real substance on this subject! i keep meaning to just sit down and swot up on this stuff but it's. not really something you can do in one sitting lol
HOWEVER i think even to a wiki peruser it's patently clear that GRRM is drawing on the Fisher King concept with Bran (as in, once you know he's doing that, you realise he isn't even trying to hide it). and I do tend to think that GRRM is more likely to stick with the top line of a myth or historical event he means to parallel rather than get lost in the minutiae - e.g. Matilda v Stephen succession crisis inspiring Rhaenyra v Aegon, the Black Dinner of 1440 inspiring the Red Wedding, this is GRRM taking the substance of an event but not the details of how it came to pass.
I'm going to guess that rather than getting into the finer details of the Fisher King mythos, GRRM is going to utilise it much like he's used Shakespeare's Richard III for Tyrion, which is another inspiration that seems painfully obvious from the moment you spot it, but is hardly lifted beat for beat, and I seriously doubt that Tyrion's story ends up anywhere like the end of RIII. but you can see GRRM taking the bits and pieces of RIII he finds interesting and twisting them for Tyrion in ASOIAF.
so with that in mind, I'm just going to quickly list the key points I can personally gather from the Fisher King myth that seem to gesture to Bran, and why I think these are probs interesting to GRRM as a writer (but as I say there are people who know lots about arthurian legend and british/welsh mythology who would probs have a lot more to say here):
the Fisher King is usually depicted as being wounded in the groin/legs/thigh - this is considered synonymous with his inability to have children and so propagate his line. immediately obvious parallel to Bran, and I think through both ASOIAF and F&B, GRRM is trying to show that ruling through dynasties where everything hinges on how the next guy's son turns out, is not a viable way to run a country. Bran will not be succeeded by children of his own blood, but I think much in the way that he himself has succeeded Bloodraven
the Fisher King is one with his land as such: his welfare is the welfare of the land, and when he takes a wound (and becomes infertile), the land too becomes barren. the Fisher King awaits a hero who will heal and restore him and so the land (but I can only imagine GRRM would subvert this - it's clear through GRRM's writing of disability that he doesn't see value in just 'curing' his characters. he wants to actually write them as disabled people). and I think there's a lot in Bran's story about man learning to respect the land he lives upon - the children and the first men's peace pact was agreed upon the grounds that the first men would essentially preserve Westeros and its weirwoods etc, and so I think it's generally agreed ASOIAF could end with a similar kind of pact to end the Long Night (or after the end of TLN)? so again, think this point is about Bran representing a renewed relationship between the lands of Westeros and its peoples - the welfare of all is tied together through him
the Fisher King is guarding the Holy Grail. im way out of my depth on this point, someone with more knowledge re. the Holy Grail needs to weigh in here lol, but I would guessssss that maybe this has something to do with Bran ending the story on the Isle of Faces, protecting the peace from there or SOMETHING idk
then the most obvious point: the Fisher King as he appears in Arthurian legend is thought to draw on the figure of Brân the Blessed, a character of Welsh mythology - which immediately recalls Bran the Broken (something Bran literally calls himself several times). the name 'Bran' also translates to crow or raven in Welsh, so, duh. and Brân the Blessed's story ends with his requesting that his head be buried on the White Hill of London - and as long as it remained there, Britain would be safe from invasion. more about Bran being tied directly to the welfare of the land and its peoples
(again there's doubtless a lot more that could be added here by someone who understands the Fisher King myth better than I do, but these seemed like the most obvious points that anyone could draw on)
anyway I absolutely take it as a given that Bran will be King at this point, and whilst it's really hard to imagine what that looks like, I do think it resonates. GRRM likes writing about dynasties but I don't think he believes in them. I'm sure he feels much the same way about feudalism, but I doubt that will be gone by the end of ASOIAF, too, so this is how I picture it??
KL: destroyed. red keep: fucked. some level of politics may continue here post-series, but I think it will no longer be the heart of westeros. the fact that it is in AGOT is I think GRRM trying to show the corruption at the heart of this country - KL is constantly described as a cesspit where the rich play their games and live and eat luxuriously directly atop the shoulders of the poor and downtrodden, divorced from what's happening in the rest of the 7K.
the new heart of Westeros will be the Isle of Faces. this is where I think Bran will end up. we don't know much about it, bc noone is able to sail there, but this was where the pact between the COF and the First Men was created, and it's one of the last places in the south where weirwoods still grow (here, in abundance). and apparently there was once a Green King of the Gods Eye?? if the Green King, of the Rivermen, is in any way the role Bran will soon be occupying, maybe this is where his Tully heritage is somehow relevant. and also like 'god's eye', Bran's whole thing is about learning to see all, so. likely place for him to be. ultimately, I don't think Bran will remain in Winterfell; the story is supposed to be about unity I think, and not northern exceptionalism, so a remaining Stark sibling will take up that seat and as I said before, I tend to think that will be Sansa.
and I guess the most I can imagine beyond this point is Bran living alongside the COF (perhaps in the company of Meera idk?), functioning less as a political entity and more as a figurehead, perhaps an oracle, who lives for the welfare of his people. there will still be politicians to run the country, but they will be guided by Bran in some way, and like Bloodraven, Bran will choose his own successor. what the intricacies of any of this look like i have no idea, but this really does sound to me like the start of GRRM's answer to all his concerns re. dynasties and corruption etc etc
sorry this was all garbled as hell but this is basically what the Fisher King endgame means to me for now. in short, not a whole lot that I can make sense of but I like the feel of it, I think it's consistent with the themes of the text and suggests the start of real change at the end of the story, rather than the start of yet another dynasty.

this is gonna be such a nothing rant (haikyuu edition) but i keep seeing these posts on instagram that are obvious rage bait where its like "TALENT OR HARDWORK?" pitting like, a selection of characters against each other and it makes me SO FUCKING MADDDDD
the people who make those DID NOTTTTT WATCH THE FUCKING SHOW BRUH. KITA SHINSUKE DID NOT GIVE HIS MONSTERS SPEECH for you to pretend that EVERY CHARACTER on the show has not WORKED FUCKING HARDDDD.
literally my ONE issue with the show/manga before kita's appearence was this mythos of "natural talent" that permeated the bg of the show's morals/ideology. there was always the idea of "the best teams are the ones who dont give up" which is shown to be true (the best teams, as well, are also the ones who practicec the most), but at the end there would be this thing of, like, "well yeah you can practice all you want, some people will just be better", which is what a lot of people for some reason took away from oikawas character arc (ignoring the fact that this isnt what was meant to be shown but WHATEVER).
THEN WE GET MY FUCKING KING OF ALL KINGS KITA SHINSUKE here to say "yeah actually these people are fucking monsters on the court, but its NOT because they were somehow born that way. its because they WORKED to become that way." and as the audience youre like "yeah but what about oikawa", AND THEN HE PULLS OUT THE "they just WORK different. they THINK different. THAT is what sets them apart from the regular players" and you realise that the reason oikawa "loses" to kageyama isnt because is wasnt good enough, or because he didnt practice enough, but because he had the mindset that kageyama had TALENT, while he had SKILL. he FAILED to see that kageyama ALSO HAD SKILL, and that his abilities as a setter DIDNT come from nowhere.
IT IS THEN LITERALLY IMMEDIATELY PROVEN IN THE SAME MATCH, when we get the flashbacks for atsumu and osamu. ojiro (king) TELLS US, THE AUDIENCE, directly that atsumu literally worked on the skills he has FROM THE GROUND UP. atsumu didnt start as the better player, or even a particularly stand out player, but he had the MENTAL DRIVE TO BE BETTER. HE WORKED HARD. osamu was the "naturally gifted" player, but ultimately fell behind his brother because he didnt want it as much.
until kitas speech, there is this mythos of "hardwork versus natural talent" that permeates the show. kageyama versus hinata initially, then with tsukki and hinata, then with oikawa and kageyama etc etc etc. but with ONE SINGLE SPEECH, the curtain is lifted and the audience is forced to confront that every single character has worked IMMENSLEY HARD to get to the level they are at, its not a matter of natural talent.
he then says my favourite line in the whole show, which is "but if you're thinking theyre geniuses from the start, then youve lost before you've even had a match with them." and, "AND ITS RUDE" <- THAT RIGHT THERE. ITS FUCKING RUDE. CASTING OUT ALL OF SOMEONES HARD WORK AND ASSIGNING IT AS NATURAL TALENT IS FUCKING RUUUUUUDEEEEEEE.
anyway rant over but that is why i hate those fucking posts. there is not one "monster" character in haikyuu that hasnt worked hard. im sick of people saying any different because all it tells me is that they were not paying fucking attention!!!!!!

Something, something about it being already established that the archons’s true names are their goetic titles (Barbatos for Venti, Morax for Zhongli, Beelzebul for Ei and Baal for Makoto, Buer for Kusanali/Nahida/Rukkhadevata since Nahida and Kusanali are the same titles for the same person and Nahida is Rukkhadevata reincarnated, Focalors for the Hydro Archon, etc etc)…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something, something about how it’s already been established within the Genshin Community that those names are the names of demons from the Lesser Key of Solomon, more specifically the Ars Goetia…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how it’s outlined in Before Sun and Moon that before the archons and current world order of Teyvat, there was a single Primordial God who colonized Teyvat by defeating the Seven Dragon Sovereigns after creating four shades of themselves…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how the Unknown God (who claims to be the SUSTAINER of Heavenly Principles) is named “Asmoday” in Genshin Impact’s files, which immediately reminds me of the demon Asmodeus who also appears in the Ars Goetia…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Asmoday seems to manipulate space-like elements, which could mean she’s one of the Shining Shades, presumably of Space…
Something, something about how in the Amethyst Crown artifact description from the artifact set “Flower of Paradise Lost” it says that the Primordial One gave the message:
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Celestia nuked all the ancient civilizations in Dragonspine, the Chasm and the Eternal Oasis and how since their ruins the same architecture style, they were probably once one large prospering civilization, with Sal Vindagnyr getting a huge nail dropped on them, referencing back to the ‘nail of retribution’ the Primordial One presumably threatened against their own children out of fear…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how it was outlined in Before Sun and Moon that the Primordial One might be Phanes…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Kairos/Isatroth is already an established shade, and Isatroth is probably her goetic title with Kairos being an alias since Kairos is from greek mythology and so is the name “Phanes” (who was the god of creation and light in Greek mythos)...
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Aether and Lumine’s names are a play on the words ‘luminiferous ether’ which is the medium by which light travels through space and is thereby associated with light and space…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Aether in Greek Mythos is the god and personification of, and I quote: “light and bright, blue ether of the heavens”...
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________
Something, something about how if you look in the Enkanomiya achievements, you see the following achievements: Kairos’ Constancy, Phosphorous’ Guidance, and Hesperus’ Boons…
Something, something about how if Kairos, the Shade of Time, is in those achievements, then Phosphorous and Hesperus are most likely shades of Phanes/The Primordial One as well…
Something, something about how Phosphorous means The Morning Star, which is the planet Venus in the morning, and how Hesperus translates to The Evening Star, which is the planet Venus in the evening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something, something about how Aether and Lumine have sun-themed and moon-themed clothes respectively (Aether being more warm-toned, Lumine being more cold-toned), which might parallel morning and evening star in addition to their white and gold and blue and brown pure color schemes paralleling that of angels...
Tumblr media
Something, something about how they had fallen from heaven (Celestia) in the form of the brightest shooting stars…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Mona says this in her final ascension line dubbed ‘Conclusion’: “In the reflection of the water, I see the ascension of the morning star.”
Tumblr media
Something, something about how the fallen angel Lucifer is also related to Venus just like Phosphorous and Hesperus are…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Lucifer was once a powerful and glorified angel and a figure of enlightenment and glory according to the Bogomil and Cather Text in the Gospel of the Secret Supper, just like how the Traveler twin we play as is portrayed in the game…
Something, something about how Lucifer fell from heaven to establish his own kingdom and became the prince of darkness, just like how the Abyss Twin becomes the prince/princess of the abyss…
Tumblr media
Something, something about how Kairos/Istaroth is a parallel to the demon Astaroth… something, something about how Paimon is most obedient to Lucifer in the Ars Goetia and is his most loyal and devoted servant...
Something, something about how the Primordial One’s true goetic title, consequentially, could be Lucifer.
Something, something about how Aether and Lumine are related to the morning and evening star, and thus, the planet Venus, and could be related to Lucifer or the Primordial One.
Something, something about how perhaps… the twins ARE Shades… or perhaps…
They are the morning and evening stars. The brightest stars. Glorified, nigh-almighty figures of the heavens that have fallen from grace. Perhaps... they are Lucifer. Perhaps...

FILE NO#1 | GODLY PARENT + LEGACY MATCHUP….
Tumblr media
A girl of mysterious origins, your father, a mortal, your mother, a god. Yet… it doesn’t seem like your scent attracts too many monsters. Your blood is not weak, yet… it can’t be— you have a guardian?! Tell me, what is your name?!
𖠳 ANNA LEE.
Tumblr media
𖠳 The perfect cabin for you. It’s definitely the most well rounded for you, and encompasses more traits that makes you so specially you. I actually had a friend who has done very deep research into Greek mythos help me with this one, and he gave me his utmost approval when I said I paired you up with Athena.
𖠳 Other than the obvious perfectionism and the pursuit of knowledge and your healthy pride and openness to competition when it reaches your heels. Yet, you carry a sensitivity and insight around you— a rebellious spirit, a restrained soul. Children of Athena tend to focus on themselves, but that is because they are inclined on thinking, and the body that hosts that process is an important factor and element. Not only so, you have many likes because you need something to scratch your brain just right, and it has to be something that takes many thought, like murder mysteries. Not only that, you seem like someone who wishes to be seen and acknowledge and appreciated, in a good way, because you have had a lack of it. That itself is a very demigod but specifically child of Athena trait— seeking your mother’s approval.
𖠳 and in her own weird way, she gives you that approval. She gives you that approval with two things— a guardian spirit. An owl. It bequeaths you with more protection against monsters, but it does not attack, and only defends. Its very presence allows you, and only you, to not be afraid of using social media or phones to answer calls in fear of monsters. And the way she claims you is extremely distinct, and memorable. I will explore this later.
𖠳 and since you yourself is this kind of person— I believe your cabin mates would adore you too. You make sure nobody is unheard, and pursue a line of thinking to adapt everyone inside. That is a trait that many children of Athena, to my knowledge, do lack, as they are so caught up within their own webs to properly contemplate the outside. This makes you a fantastic cabin leader also, and the dynamics affected by how you have had siblings before in the past makes them respect you. How does this connect with Athena? She is also the god of war, someone who must take charge, someone who needs great organization and insight to hear every soldier out. You get where I’m going?
𖠳 also, you have that sense of justice that Athena children has that explicitly do not always appear on many other demigods of other cabins— but the Athena cabin has members who pursue their own sense of justice. And I believe you fit right in, lawyer girl.
𖠳 I think you humble yourself enough, and that sort of balances out what would be your fatal flaw enough to help you survive many encounters. And I also believe putting you in this cabin will help you and the others remark your findings on one another’s traits and what you guys can do to exchange pointers and avoid situations like being clouded by pride, etc, which may lead to inevitable doom. You guys wish to learn, and to support one another in your pursuits would be a better place to grow instead of being thrown into the cat fight that is the Nike cabin (who does more well for people who have higher self esteem, especially bouncing back very quickly from even a big loss).
𖠳 YOUR LEGACY HAS TO BE…
Tumblr media
𖠳 your fiery attitude reminds me a lot like nemesis, and your seeking reminds me of Nike. But Nike’s cabin is more focused on winning and winning, and not much on being better as a whole. No shade. But you have the legacy of Dike, and it is not just because of your wish to become a lawyer, where this goddess of justice incorporates, but also, from your compassion for the people around you, and how you are trying to get over your judgement. I think it draws a good parallel, the legacy of a goddess of judgement and law, yet breaking away and finding ways to incorporate more representation and understanding within the courtroom. You already have Dike’s approval, so please, step forward!
Tumblr media
𖠳 HOW ARE YOU CLAIMED?
Your blood is racing, you are cornered. The shadow of the night looms over you, you, who is running parallel to the road. This is supposed to be a safe haven, your path to sanctuary— but it is bisected by a flying monster— a spider of all things, venom dripping from its fangs, poison marring its webs.
“Anna! ANNA, can you hear me?!” You hear an echo from a friend’s voice, distant. That’s the satyr who brought you here, separated as the dusk fell.
The next following events goes like this:
Your guardian flies by, nipping through the shot webs and the tiny spider babies trailing behind
In that moment, you devise a plan. There is something that looks like a well, and a heavy metal that can be wedged forward. You sprint, purposefully catching its eye, and run past the well. Its huge, lumpy body crashes down into it, unable to avoid it due to thick oak wood flanking where you could squeeze through. Then, before it can come out, you push the metal— it does not budge. Your veins turn to ice.
Is that all you have? A voice echoes in your head.
It cannot be, not if you wish for your life.
There is something else you can do, and swiftly, you manage to hull the clunk of metal down with a leverage. It smashes the spider into bits.
And as you stare down, the sparkling outline of a holographic owl appears on your head.
It turns out, the clunk of metal was celestial bronze, which was there to supplement the Hephaestus cabin’s latest projects. They’re absolutely mad at you for ruining the newest order, but Chiron chastises them, and welcome you with open arms.
Sorry for how lackluster this is… I didn’t really have much idea how you outsmart the monster, but that’s a main contribution to your claiming.
Tumblr media
𖠳 WHAT IS YOUR ABILITIES? YOUR FLAWS? YOUR STRENGTHS? EVERYTHING?
Have no fear— I’ve created a chart entirely for that!
Tumblr media
I believe the only two I should elaborate on is number 2 and number 4. The reason why I have chosen number 2, is that from your personality, I see a more self-degrading side to you, as you attempt to press down your pride. This tells me that immediately after you or someone else directly points out your sense of hubris, you acknowledge how bad it is, and while I think it clouds your vision, but from your description, it seems your weakness are more settled on your judgement itself, whether it be clouded by anger or whatnot. However, I can moreso see you on the verge of indecision, weighing your choices just a bit too much. Perhaps you miss the opportunity to make a choice from how harshly you judge your own actions, scared of choosing the wrong one, or making the wrong decision, leading you further down a path of troubles.
That said, it’s not everyone in your cabin enjoys you. Perhaps they have some Nike legacy, or they’re characters of envy — some find you pretentious, and they show it, knowing you are keen on impressions. I would say, look out for people subtly edging you towards a bad fate.
And I think you already know your strengths well. Your deep compassion, your pursuit of the truth, yet you feel incredibly humane. You stumble on your words and you are overloaded with this passion. Hello, child of Athena.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖠳 WEAPONS — A shield, and a Crossbow.
Tumblr media
𖠳 Thinking of your build further, and as a child of Athena, I think you would shine brighter while pulling strings at the back. Not only that, thinking of your descriptor for your body also deigns me to think that, and additionally, a crossbow is a hunter’s weapon. You need to be athletically capable of running around, and I believe you can do just that, especially since Athena presides over war and combat. You would need to be precise, and grounded enough to use the weapon, but also versatile enough to change the trajectory at a whim.
𖠳 I gave you a shield both in honor of you inheriting a sort of will from Athena, and for further protection. I think you are more of a protector, being able to save your friends and teammates and shield them rather than having a full offensive ahead! kind of energy. When it involves their lives. If its capture the flag, I can see you taking a lot more risk.
So… I’ve run out of space for images lol, but here is some of my headcanons if you bring in camp.
𖠳 while the strawberry field of course has to be your favorite, acting picking the strawberries during the summer makes you wish for death. Better hope some child of Apollo with a rare ability to control light softens the sunlight there 😭
𖠳 there’s this one demigod you get into daily arguments with, but it isn’t draining surprisingly to talk to them. Later, you find out why. They’re only arguing with you.. for your attention lol. Here and there, there are other demigods who wants to be friends with you, or has an elementary crush on you, and wants your attention in some way, and they take you being a child of Athena as a way to scratch wits with you. A lot of people like challenging you for no reason other than the fact that you’re the head of the Athena cabin.
𖠳 What do you mean you can’t present? 😭 alright, they’re all nerds, but many of them are also the type to wish to get over things quickly. They’ll take care of it as long as you do your job well, and settling down other children of Athena, which is something you excel at.
𖠳 your favorite activity at camp is Capture the Flag, where you can show off your strategic skills and leadership abilities. You’re the captain of the blue team, and often comes up with clever plans to outsmart the red team. You’re respected and admired by your teammates, but also feared and envied by her opponents. Anna has a friendly rivalry with Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon and the leader of the red team.
𖠳 i feel like you’ll definitely hate the sound of the conch horn, and prefer to stay indoors to keep away from the insects in the grass and woods. This is more convenient for those who wants to find you, since you’re in exactly only three locations unless you have chores to run.
𖠳 your half siblings love your baking, and munching on your goodies while studying or reading or doing whatever they are doing is such a great destressor for them, and is enough to dash away any hate or resentment inside the cabin or any other places.
𖠳 you hang out with me lots 😼 and you also go out with Percy whenever the two of you are free. You rest under an umbrella as you watch him surf, sometimes going with him. Number one OTP of the camp 💀
𖠳 I can see you changing some rules around in the camp with the help of your own fellow cabin members and others. Camp half blood is like,,, a great mess sometimes. We need some organization around here that is better on everyone. Intentions beckon action!

Finally decided to do a TVD rewatch now that the 'verse is complete. Since I know how everything ends I thought it would be interesting to see how I react with that knowledge. Curious if my feelings might change about characters, ships, storylines etc. (obviously I am fully aware there's going some bias).
Adding my thoughts after I complete the half-way mark of each season (there is simply too many episodes to do a recap of each one). I am talking to the void mostly here but feel free to leave comments, thoughts on my posts for those who still follow me or just find this post. However, I am not here to argue, I simply DO NOT CARE whatever you think is right totally, please leave me alone.
Recaps tagged with k rewatches tvd
S1 Episodes 1-11
I am loving the dark atmosphere of the first season, feeling so much nostalgia! Nice to go back in time to when vampires were scary on this show. That's not really criticism because every supernatural show goes through this. The big bad must always be upped as it goes on but it was nice when the stakes were lower and the mythos was being developed.
Damon makes me feel so uncomfortable so far... I know he was the 'villian' for most of the beginning of the season but his treatment of Vicki and Caroline is just so predatory and gross. Which brings me to...
WHY HAS NO ONE GIVEN CAROLINE A GOD DAMN VERVAIN NECKLACE ALREADY!!! Stefan and Elena both know Damon was using her (and they know damn well he hasn't stopped). Her Mom has the vervain to give her and just has not for no reason!! GET AWAY FROM HER ALREADY! I got so mad when Damon was compelling her AGAIN in the 10th episode. I'm so glad she outlives them all, justice for my baby!
I'm sorry but Stefan is so creepy and self-righteous in the beginning, I remembered this but did not remember how bad it was. Also he did not need to kill Vicki, that pissed me off. I don't think it did as much when I first watch this (mind you that was literally 14+ years ago) but just knowing how freely everyone neck-snaps around here it was bullshit. His one cool moment remains when he told Logan he can't walk in the sun. The manipulative way he used Elena’s adoption to get her to forgive him had me rolling my eyes (then of course she used it against Jenna to get out of trouble lol).
I can't remember who the other vampire is who turned Logan, I'm thinking its Pearl's henchman but yeah I don't remember that part. I also didn't remember the crystal so I like that some of this is like a 'mystery' again.
I did remember that I thought Tyler was such a dick in the first season and yeah confirmed. Though now I remembered his Dad was an abusive piece of shit. Still, fuck Tyler for now.
Alaric looks so different I don't hate him (yet).
I still hate Matt #bias
The progression of Bonnie realizing her powers has been well done, again nice to just see the simple magic again. (Stefan totally wanted to bang Sheila back in the day... maybe they did)
Jeremy just met Anna and I still love them, I wish they got more time. They were the only 'ship I like in this season when it first aired.
The Bonnie, Elena and Caroline friendship is nice but I am annoyed they haven't done more to protect Caro from Damon. Especially when she doesn't know what's going on and they do (though Bonnie only just got all the deets). This might be magnified by my love of Caroline I admit but I hate the prop-y way she's being used so far.
I kinda rolled my eyes at the whole Katherine/Damon/Stefan stuff before Elena knew they were vamps because OMG Stefan is 17(!!!) Does no one thinks it's weird he's like "it was a long time ago" A LONG TIME AGO LIKE WHEN YOU WERE 12?! They should have made him at least 20, just bothers me.
I liked that not every vampire had a daylight ring and it was more of a novelty. That is something that could have stuck more in the later seasons.
Lines that made me laugh:
Caroline: Yeah, Elena wasn't so lucky today. It's only because you missed summer camp. God, I don't know how you're ever going to learn the routines. (Bonnie offers to help her) I guess we can put her in the back. (all right in front of Elena lmao oh Caroline never change)
Caroline: So, Elena...how long do you think this fight with Stefan's gonna last? Is it...like a permanent thing? (eyes on the prize baby! lol)
Stefan: (imitating Damon) Now that the secret society of vampire haters is off our back, I can go back to my routine of how can I destroy Stefan’s life this week. (never gets old!)
Damon: *shoots Logan with wooden bullets* Payback's a bitch, isn't it? (all in the delivery here lmao kudos to Ian)

7. describe your favorite relationship dynamic. (can be any kind, platonic, romantic, familial, antagonistic, etc.) & 10. what genre do you most enjoy, whether in roleplay, or fiction as a whole? (fantasy, period, superhero, etc.)
describe your favorite relationship dynamic. (can be any kind, platonic, romantic, familial, antagonistic, etc.)
my diehard dynamic is one that perseveres through the odds. it doesn't matter if it's platonic, romantic, or familial namely - what matters is that they face extreme trials through their entire story and still make it through to the end, and with their bond intact, even if their perspective of one another has changed. i've been through sooo many fandoms and rpcs at this point, and i think that a lot of my favourite dynamics have revolved around this sort of dynamic; where the two people won't let the world break them apart.
washington and carolina in red vs blue falls into this, because they were the only two agents from project freelancer left in the end, and they were basically like siblings once it got to that point. cayde-6 in destiny had an undying bond with the other vanguard (zavala and ikora) through the events of the first and second games, until he... well... let's just say i have a track record of my favs dying or almost dying.
but okay, if i have to pick a specific dynamic, i'm on board with mentor/mentee the most - barring platonic and romantic dynamics, because i like my muses to have friends and happiness, but mentor/mentee dynamics are just... chefs kiss. like yes, i want other muses to guide my muse through the trials and tribulations of life. i want my muse to have parent-like figures who don't actually seek to overrule that role in their lives, just being in their corner, wanting to see them grow as a person and be a part of the reason they do. i want my muse to LEARN from other muses. whether it's by shadowing them or by being asked question after question... i love it so much.
what genre do you most enjoy, whether in roleplay, or fiction as a whole? (fantasy, period, superhero, etc.)
my top two genres are sci-fi and fantasy. but okay, that's pretty broad, right? there are a LOT of subcategories here. and yes, i like basically all of them, but i'll name a specific one for each:
sci-fi? dystopian. but like... blade runner dystopian. westworld dystopian. cyberpunk dystopian. worlds where the lines blur and you're left to question where you're meant to draw the line. sure, i like more traditional sci-fi too - such as mass effect, one of my favourite games of all time - but there's something i love to explore in the idea of dystopian fiction the most, and in anything that is inherently sci-fi based, these can apply.
as for fantasy? my main one is historical fantasy. yeah, i like my high fantasy, i definitely like my dark fantasy, but honestly... i love things that are fantastical while still having historical connections. i think highlander REALLY sealed the deal for me on this one - and if not that, then obviously anything ancient mythos related, but... yeah. dark fantasy is just such a close second. (if you squint, you can tell i'm a massive bioware fanboy who adores their trademark series.)

So what do you think this new world is? My best guess is that it’s the bits & pieces of the world the gods decided not to use, like the scraps yk? and that’s why it looks so disorienting
I’m not sure yet myself. While that’s certainly a possibility, I think it’s worth remembering that there could be more about Remnant and the gods that we aren’t privy to yet. There could be other gods or entities out there beyond just the brothers. For example, in the RWBY fairy tails short series there’s an episode on the mythos of the creation of the faunus. Both stories talk about a ‘god of animals’ who had a hand in the creation of the faunus.
Tumblr media
His design in some ways might reflect elements of the brother gods, but it’s so divergent from both of them that it’s entirely possible that he is his own entity separate from them. Or he just might not exist, we don’t know yet.
But to get back to your question: the name of the island, the Ever After, is interesting. RWBY has always drawn heavily from fairy tails and mythology for its setting. Most if not all named characters are based off of fairy tails, historical figures, mythological figures, etc. So for a location to be called the ‘Ever After’, which is something that commonly appears at the end of many children’s fables, ‘and they lived happily ever after’, continues with that trend if the numerous allusions to Alice in Wonderland from the teaser and sneak peek didn’t make it clear this place was fantasy land.
It could be a ‘scrap yard’ of sorts like you said, where the Brothers discarded things so they’d be in an out of the way place that wouldn’t interfere with Remnant. It could be that the Ever After is Remnant’s island of misfit toys. That would explain the way these radically different biomes all sit side by side on the island. In a similar line of thinking it could be more of a… testing ground. Maybe the brothers used Ever After to try things out and abandoned projects that didn’t work or they lost interest in.
One interesting thing about Ever After is how it responds to emotion. In the episode 1 sneak peek it begins to rain when Ruby starts crying, and stops when she cheers up. Unless it does that every time any creature on the island gets upset, it seems like specifically the emotions of people have that effect on the island. I have a theory that the island could be a result of… belief. The people of Remnant have numerous tales and mythologies. The Ever After could be a manifestation of these stories, which would also explain its kludged together state.
Whatever the case, I’m excited to find out what the island is, and I’m sure there’s a lot more to discover about it! Thanks for the question!

The Scientifically Taboo: Cultural Practices' Overlap with Modern Medicine
---
The medical community has always been wary of cultural overlap when it comes to viewing disorders and treatments.
This reflects in the OSDDID community, and even diagnostic criteria.
Because so much about OSDDID is still unknown within the research and medical community, it is more open to appropriation.
Despite what many believe, plurality began disordered, and has remained disordered. Many are hesitant to discuss the key differences between true plurality and faux/cultural/therapeutic multiplicity.
---
FAUX:
The idea of distinct areas of personality and various early personality models are to blame for some of the confusion.
The idea of a personality model has been around for a long time, with various people pitching different ideas along the way. Some of the most popular of these include:
Sigmund Freud's psychodynamic theory (id, ego, superego)
Allport, Odbert, & Cattell's 16 personality traits
Costa, McCrae, et al.'s five-factor model
Jung's introversion/extroversion + Eysenck's neuroticism/stability
Bandura's social-cognitive theory
The infamous Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
By dividing the idea of personality into different aspects instead of recognizing it as fluid, people will begin to divide those aspects further- typically inadvertently- as an excuse for behaviors.
This is where singlets and western "tulpamancers" come into play. No, that wasn't your "aggressive side", you were just being a prick. There is no such thing as these personality divisions outside of the disordered, and more modern personality models reflect this.
---
CULTURAL:
When it comes to religious practices, people begin to get touchy, unaware of where to draw the line.
In Christian "possession", the hearing of voices is explainable by AVHs*, and the trance-like state by a number of things (sleep walking, personality disorders, etc.) Not to mention the mass hysteria when it came to witch trials and possession. Often times, in old stories of possession by a demon in Christian history, there would be a failure to mention that the fear of possession was an epidemic, a craze, a fad. Exaggerations of symptoms may be caused psychosomatically or hyperbolized by other people who view the "possession" as a threat.
Outside of Christianity- such as in paganism or Buddhism- the idea of possession was viewed a little differently. Some "possession" was wanted, invited via ritual. In Greek mythos, the idea of possession relates to what we now know as illnesses, such as epilepsy or mental disorders of various kinds. In cultures that were forced to convert to Christianity, the "possession" often refers to a belief or connection to a "demon"- a god or deity that was part of their original culture. Most modern- and even some ancient- religious and cultural systems acknowledge that mental or physical illness is typically the root of so-called possessions.
---
THERAPEUTIC:
For some, being "multiple" is just a form of therapy. By mentally dividing personality traits and emotions, one can begin to see where certain issues may lay and begin to fix them.
Sometimes, it's just easier to ignore the whole picture and instead pick apart the brain until you find where the problems begin. This type of therapy method may be helpful for those who are more prone to guilt, shame, or those with poor self-image; for it reveals that it is not them as a person that is "wrong" or "bad", but a small part of them that has been changed by mental or physical ailments.
---
CONCLUSION:
Stop de-medicalizing plurality. If you are part of a culture who believes in possession states or use distinct parts as a part of therapy, please do not claim to experience multiplicity. You are experiencing something entirely different. It's not bad, worse, or "lesser", but it is not the same experience.
I am aware that anything touching on boundaries between the scientific and the cultural is highly controversial. These are just my views, and I am in no way representing traumagenic systems as a whole here, but trying to impart important information that will hopefully help you understand why it is important to separate plurality from culture.

in response to my last question: no prob! i understand i shouldve been more specific. the kind of thing im looking for is pretty much anything with very confusing lore i can solve bc i enjoy that typa thing. also yes, anime style is preferred but anything similar is fine ^^ it could be either novels or songs, or both, i like the concept of there being multiple kinds of media for one series. i do enjoy fantasy, especially when it has a dark turn.
(apologies if my typing is off, im just waking up & its 7 in the morning ; ; )
also thank u !!
Hm… (under the cut because this has gotten a bit long)
So, in case you didn't see the replies on the first ask, there's Kingdom Hearts if you've never checked it out. I myself have only seen the first and second game, but there's a ton of installments (both video game, novel, and comic, etc) to piece together, it's a blend of Final Fantasy and Disney (so, anime and cartoon, basically), and it's a pretty classic fantasy series with a bit of darkness in it (though, I would still say kid-friendly darkness). There's also the PutinP series, which is admittedly far less convoluted than Evillious but still fairly interesting to get into--a lot of its more confusing aspects come from the way the series is framed and the myriad cultural references it makes, albeit.
Let's see…There's the Xenoblade Saga, to get back into video games for a second--I've seen the first and second, but I've heard the third is good, and there's definitely a lot of complex lore to get through that might throw you for a loop. Like Evillious it's a cross-blend of fantasy and sci-fi (to the point where I almost wonder if mothy was inspired by some of the first game's lore sometimes), and it features some pretty heavy topics for a family-friendly series. Each game has new protagonists and a new setting, so it's also an anthology of sorts. There's probably quite a few other works I could recommend along these lines--Fate/Stay Night (I understand it began as a visual novel and has branched into a huge multi-media franchise), Final Fantasy, etc, but unfortunately there aren't many I'm personally familiar with.
While this is definitely not in the same ballpark stylistically as it's a Western author, you might be interested in the novels of Brandon Sanderson as well--I've been recently getting into his works and so far I've found his worldbuilding and magic systems to be extremely tight and consistent, his characters to be well fleshed out, and his lore to be deeply fascinating. He has more than one series, but many (or all?) of them take place in the same multiverse, which each one building slightly on the greater mythos in addition to their own world. I'd recommend starting with the Mistborn trilogy, if that interests you.
For manga, you might be interested in checking out the works of CLAMP, a female manga artist group who have made such works as Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. I myself have only really read xxxHolic, but from what I recall, most of their series take place in the same multiverse as well (at the very least, xxxHolic and Tsubasa are definitely linked to each other), and it can be a bit of a challenge to piece all of the components together.
And of course, even though I've only seen the first arc so far, I would be remiss if I didn't bring up the "When they Cry" series--a set of visual novels with a complex puzzle-plot that gets built upon as you go. The first one is Higurashi, and the second one is Umineko. These are horror games, mind, so be wary when going into it if you're squeamish because they can get quite gruesome. These also come with manga and anime adaptations, but I'm not as interested in those if I'm honest.
There's no end to series out there with confusing lore and stories, but hopefully this is a decent selection I've listed here that at least have some passing resemblance to the tone of Evillious.

Just remembered a thought I had at work about like..
The significance of the Astoria monsters being called Godly Monsters.
I was thinking about how MC mentions she had begun to adopt the same patronizing (might be a different word, can't remember lol) attitude the gods have towards the titans because she admits to herself she had started to see Selene and Helios as "her" titans. And how that was enforced through one of the specials via Persephone iirc.
Anyways.
Godly Monsters.
Creatures that are treated like shit by the divine, who might be better off described as Greek Monsters regardless of how old some are and where they were born. (A Greek God doesn't stop being a Greek God just because home base is linked above New York). They're still attached to the Greek mythos, at the very least.
So why Godly Monsters?
There's no love for the gods coming from any Godly Monster (at least, not most. Cerberus and his brothers are an exception, but even then, most gods treat them poorly despite their connection to Hades.) There's never any acknowledgement that being deemed a Godly Monster has some odd connotations, it's pretty much just accepted as it is. Which, to be fair, that's the least of their worries, but...
Bottom line is, they're monsters- not godly at all. The opposite, if anything. The titans aren't called Godly Titans. So why are the monsters dubbed as such?
There's DEFINITELY the factor of distinction- monsters with auras vs. regular monsters like vampires, werewolves, etc.
But what could have happened in-universe that pushed the name Godly Monsters into being? What in-universe reason is there to be Godly Monsters over Greek Monsters?
I'm thinking that, when the gods and the King and Queen of Monsters "settled" their matters- because we know something happened between monsters and gods that brought on a lot of bloodshed; there's a reason why the monsters have a monarchy untouchable by the gods unless they blatantly violate the terms of their treaty, a reason why they have a treaty (a truce) at all- that the gods supplied the new title to them.
Why?
Because the gods are above everyone else, and putting their modifier onto the monsters gives them a certain claim to ownership, it raises the gods even higher above them because they're Godly Monsters, not gods. The gods oversee them as much as their own monarchy does. The gods can punish them far worse. They can do anything they'd like.
Because these monsters are theirs.
Their own can steal away the physical pieces of a monster's soul with no repercussions, but when justice is had and the thief killed, it's the monsters who are seen as cruel and unlawful. When a monster is adopted by one of the gods, the others treat them just as poorly as if they were random monsters off the street. When a monster is living a quiet life, the gods can disrupt that however they want.
The gods don't give two shits about other monsters. But they care even less about the Godly Monsters, each of them kept on a leash, by name and by their agencies.
Anyways. It's probably really not that deep but I thought it was really interesting to think about the implications in-universe :)

A Post Concerning
ARETE
•┈┈••✦ ☀️ ✦••┈┈•
Tumblr media
•┈┈••✦ ☀️ ✦••┈┈•
Arete is often translated to "moral virtue" in English.
However, it is better defined and understood as "striving for full realization of potential."
It is, simply put, striving to be the best version of yourself you can be.
You're probably asking yourself "hey, admin of this e-shrine, why should I care about arete as a modern person? What does an ancient belief have to offer in a world so different?"
Which is a fair question since we don't live in ancient Hellas nor are influenced by the culture that surrounded the time that the Theoi mythos was spoken.
This answer can differ for everyone, as no one person views arete and especially how to achieve arete the same way. Some may not even care about arete, nor include it in their practice and worship.
Arete, as define above, is the strive for perfection and excellence in what one does, and striving to be the best version of yourself you can be. I strongly believe that perfection is not realistic, and you should always know your abilities and stay within them, but progress is still extremely valuable. This means character development, self actualization, and happiness and peace within yourself.
•·················•·················•
Tumblr media
Arete and the Gods.
Arete has always been used as a way to please society and oneself, but most importantly to please the Gods. Arete is often correlated with how pious someone was, especially if they were a warrior, priest, or public speaker.
The word was associated with araomai, to pray, as well as aristos, meaning "the best". It is often associated with moral goodness, which when shown in mortals, is rewarded in living out the afterlife in Elysium. The ancient Hellenic peoples believed this was a way of being morally good and within favor with the Theoi.
This is still true today. Living within one's values and morals is very important to living a full life and avoiding cognitive dissonance and discomfort. Arete is living within your values, providing peace within yourself and for others, and pleasing to the Gods.
•·················•·················•
Tumblr media
Means of achieving arete in the modern world.
The means of achieving arete in the past has a long history of oppression, which I will get to later. The western world does not share all of the same values as the ancient Hellenic peoples did in the time of Odysseus, and we should not look to the traditional, old ways of bringing arete into our lives. It is important to stay in the times since we know much more about human psychology and abilities.
Arete can look different for everyone based on their capabilities. It truly is seeking excellence in what one does and how they live. I personally like to bring the principle of arete into my career as an addictions councilor, especially since striving for excellence means that I help people more efficiently and to the best of my ability. I also enjoy striving for arete in my school work (especially to make Athena proud of me.)
However, someone's arete could mean that they were able to get promoted, or they were able to get out of bed today and self-care. It could mean that you tried your best in activities and events, or at school, or anything you have attempted to do. It could be a person's craft, hobby, love life, family, career, finances, etc.
You don't "loose" arete for attempting and failing, or having a bad day, or falling just short of what your goal was. Your best is always good enough for society, yourself, and for the Gods.
Whatever form arete takes, the Gods are always walking this path with you, and are pleased by your efforts to be the best you can be.
•·················•·················•
Tumblr media
The means of achieving arete has a long history of oppression.
The ancient world didn't always have the best values. The ways that arete was acceptably achieved by individuals was often split on gender, sex and social class lines. Ancient Hellas was often a misogynistic society and did not regard women and slaves as favorably, nor were the poor.
The way that men achieved arete was through battle, public speaking and priesthood. It was often more acquirable by rich men, and one had to have arete to be an aristocrat, leaving women and slaves to be restricted to "smaller" roles.
Women achieved arete though managing their homes, children and slaves, and being an excellent wife.
I unfortunately could not find where slaves could find arete, although I don't think they were socially barred from being recognized as having arete since it is a little nebulous.
Objects could also have arete, if they were created well or functioned efficiently.
Arete itself isn't inherently oppressive, so long as the social pressure around it doesn't venture into abilism, but it certainly had a history of being gatekept through the means and boundaries in which individuals were able to self actualize.
•┈┈••✦ ☀️ ✦••┈┈•
Tumblr media
•┈┈••✦ ☀️ ✦••┈┈•
Conclusion.
Because arete is so important to how I live my life, I felt compelled to write about it. I felt like sharing this seemingly more obscure part of ancient Hellenic culture and religion, since it is still so applicable to our current age. If more people strived to be the best version of themselves they can be that day, I am sure life would be better for everyone.
I do want to hammer in that arete and someone's best is entirely subjective and looks different for each person, each day. If you can't reach the same level of excellence in something you did yesterday, always know that arete is a practice, and practice makes progress.

pre history- all of human history. this knowlage has been lost to the people, but essentially volcanic hellfire kickstarted an ice age which killed most of everything. tree lines pushed to tiny temperate strips between continental ice sheets stemming from the poles and dry deserts around the equator. also some mushrooms mutated thats important
the ancient times- 4000 years of living in the caves. only known by upper valley historians. lower valley mythos says they just were created from the upper valley.
the below ground times:
- an advanced group of civilizations that had gone through a similar history on a similar planet as irl humans existed, and due to a dramatic warming and subsequent dramatic cooling event, the planet is now mostly covered in ice and the oceans are very low.
- some human groups survived, notably one in the eastern usa (which would eventually migrate to become the valley people) and one in the congo jungle.
- the group in eastern north america survived the cooling event by moving into the cave system. they brought fire down with them, and had an eternal oil flame which should never go out. they got drinking water from subterranian lakes and rivers. they also brought with them knowlage of domestication and breeding animals. they bred salamanders for food, as well as some bugs and fish. also mushrooms, but just for food at this point.
- once situated they started mining and building things from the caves around them. they made forges from the occasional lava river and used those to melt metal to create rails for easier transport theoughoit caves. they grew out their hair and used it to make threads and rope. clothing was made with human leather. first this was out of neccessity by people who could not buy oil for a fire for warmth, then much later became a cultural thing of it being a way of honouring your ancestors by wearing them.
- eventually through the mining and raik system (over Thousands of years) people made it to the pacific north west.
cultural belief shifts throughout the below times (not what happened- what people at various times Thouhgt happened):
- started out with
year 0- initial emergance from the upper valley caves
- metal is a young child. she lives in the caves and due to circumstance does not leave like others. she grows up eating mushrooms mostly, as thats what the cave people had essentially domesticated. (probably the nuclear mushroom mutation or whatever helped with this) she also eats bugs probably thats like the only other survivors
- oh people also ate dead people too. if they were healthy enough. hair also became an important resoruce bc it could be made into thin fabric. human lether was used for most thick fabric needs.
- theres also snake like lizards. they really only have feet for holding onto rocks they dont walk on them they slither. humans are keeping them as pets feeding them bugs and breeding them for protection since theres no materials down there other than stone and bodies
- metal grew up in the graveyards at the bottom of the caves, where dead bodies unfit for consumption were thrown to feed the mushrooms. usually people with nowhere else to go ended up down there. they grow the mushrooms that most other people eat.
- metal was a bone collector. she among others would go through the mushroom pits gathering bones of people and animals for general use (tools etc)
- skulls of the unknown werent used for anything as they were usually cracked, so metal collected them.
- point is metal grew up with a close connection to mushrooms that feed on people, and noticed that mushrooms would kinda grow on living people and feed off them if they lived in the graveyards long enough
year 7
- metal is maybe 20? doesnt really matter.
- people were quickly exploring and moving out of the caves and the demand for the graveyard mushrooms was running out so people left the graveyard for other work.
- metal stays behind even when the siesmic activity gets so bad gas leaks start killing people in the deep caves where they are. most of the people still down there are people who cant get out for whatever reason.
- metal starts noticing that the people with mushrooms growing on them dont hwve bad effects from the toxins, like the mushrooms are eating the toxins.
year 15
- since her friend (ghost) has been slowly dying from the fumes, and as the last two people down there, metal manages to create a breed of mushroom bred into of ghosts blood that will keep the body alive so that his soul doesnt get pulled into oblivion. basically his body becomes one with the mushroom which overtakes and eats the whole graveyard cave to become one living entity.
- people infected with the spores from this entity function kinda like they bave rabies. my version of vampirism.
- anyways, metals body gets progressivly taken over by the mushroom and shes basically a zombie made of spare bones and mushrooms held together with metal joints (reason for name) but shes still alive due to inbreeding with the mushroom? mutated slightly magic mushroom. dont worry about it
year 40?
- groups of people have travelled down the valley to explore and later in search of food. some people stay near the original caves, livinv above ghe water now though. they still eat mostlybmushrooms humans and lizards. they raise the lizard snake thingd also. calling them dragons from now on.
- theres a settlement formed from an explorers camp at the end of the valley where it meets the ocean. this area is river delta with seasonal flooding from the glacier runoff that comes through the valley, surrounded by steep cliffs and beyond that high mountains or the ocean. so people build homes in the roots of the giany petrified tree. there isnt a lot of sunlight but the rich water and soil make for some plants that live of their roots. nothing that needs too much sun. there are mushrooms there though. this will eventually evolve into the main city.
year 60ish
- metal has been forced to leave the og caves because of rising groundwater levels. the vampiric mycelium is still there, stemming from ghosts skeleton. ghosts spirit is detached and following metal around. metal explores the caves and eventually finds a mineshaft with an abandoned forge, which had been obviously used to make the metal rails for the minecart tracks n stuff. left by the proto upper valley people thousands of years earlier. she restored the forge also. dont worry how maybe someone helped her idk. or she alresdy knew forges well. probably that?
- looking for food she ends up eating the mushrooms growing off of her body and realizes theyre psychedelics
- on an insane amount of shrooms due to using them as a food source she realizes that she can mix molten metal with blood similarly to how she mixed blood with mycelium to connect them. magicy enegery stuff dont worry about it
year 100
- a small refill station in the middle of the valley that was oroginally just a box of food and supplies becomes more of a general trading store and eventually a small town based around the port. they live on the cliff ledges
- the upper valley gets more disticnt from the lower valley mostly due to still living in the split in half caves with the now almost drakon-like salamanders
year 1200
- a proto-raven learns from Dark what happens to souls after they die (rebirth) and tells the upper valley what goes on. this begins the myth snd worship of Grim as the soul collector. really hes the memory collector but mythologically speaking hes the grim reaper. he doesnt actually kill but people think he does.
year 2000
- people in the upper and lower valley worship Grim kinda? they pray to him for a good next life, basically. fortune for the future. they know he can hear what they tell crows so crows gain a sacred status.
year 5000
- metals so old it doesnt even matter.
- anyways, raven is born.
- he lives in the upper valley until hes 10 when the crows (directed by metal/grim?) convince him to float down the valley fjord during the melt season to the tree city (main city)
- he ends up drifting into portside and gets caught in the fishing nets. meets ty (12 when raven is 10) and a few years later scars (11 when raven is 12) who is mute from his throat getting slashed and gets kidnapped a few months after showing up at nets. kidnapper was his fathers gang who mostly sold women and children. scars is stuck with them until hes 23 when raven destroys the gang on metals orders and finds scars and kyah (10 at the time) among others. raven recognized scars from nets and got him a cleanup job working for metal in exchange for shelter food and protection. kyah goes to the unofficial kids shelter run by meg (dust is there along with val and some others)

hehehe... for the ask meme!
Fakir
Ventus
L Lawliet
Seto Kaiba
Midna
And... Zib
Woah that's so many but sure okay
Putting these under the cut for all of your sakes😂😂
Fakir:
1. Sexuality headcanon
Bi. Easy answer.
Although for me perhaps...biromantic asexual?
2. Otp
I love Fakirutho (Fakir/Duck/Mytho) but I'm gonna go with Fakir/Autor because I love them
3. Brotp
Fakiru (I like them romantic and platonic! I just love them together🥺🥰)
4. Notp
Fakirue (Fakir/rue)
Nothing deep here. I think they'd be funny as bitchy friends though😂
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh (having a hard time thinking up one) uhhhhhh
Ooh uh I think it would be sweet if he read his works of writing and ramblings off to Duck post anime canon
6. Favorite line
....so I don't remember much of what he says and it's too late at night for me to look something up so...pass??
7. One way in which I relate to this character
I too fantasize of being a knight but turn out to be better at writing /hj
Okay okay in all seriousness, I am also a writer
8. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
Pretty much almost any time he's in the same room as Duck tbh. His worse at hiding feelings than he thinks and shenanigans always happen when they're in the same room😂
As an extension to this, he's also sorta secretly dorkily and earnestly soft about the people he cares about
9. Cinnamon roll or problematic fav?
So like comparatively he hasn't done things that are as bad, but he's slightly considered problematic fav? He shapes up in the second half of the anime but boy the way he acts before he dodges his fate😂
Ventus:
1.Sexuality headcanon
Ehhh I don't think about this too much for him, but gay ace (although I do enjoy arospec gay Ven as well)
2. Otp
Woof uh
I actually ship a lot of Ventus ships, but for the sake of making this easy I'll stick with VenVan
Although if poly ships aren't cheating I'd choose RokuVenVaniPliku² (Roxas/Ventus/Vanitas/Repliku/Replitwo)
3. Brotp
Mmm Ventus & Zack
4. Notp
Venso
I don't have any real reasoning it's just not for me
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
Ventus is the type to begin admiring other boys who are older than him but gain a crush on them over time
6. Favorite Line
"Vanitas. You're coming home too."
7. One Way in which I relate to this character
I too used to believe in and trust in at least one parental figure before they used that trust and their position to get away with lying to me and using me
8. One thing that gives me second hand embarrassment
Not necessarily embarrassment but any scene where he's sappy about people he cares about and also self sacrificial within a few minutes
9. Cinnamon Roll or problematic fav?
Idk I don't really attribute him to either? Ven is sweet and cute but I resent the cinnamon roll label just because of how most people in this fandom attribute him to being pure and naive and morally good. If I have to pick I would go problematic fav, but his worst crimes he commited on purpose amount to being a little shit sometimes
L Death Note:
1. Sexuality headcanon
The simplest way I can put it is gay aroaspec
I throw both he and Light across the aro and ace spectrums wherever I feel, whether that be firmly aro or ace, gray aroace, demi, etc. No matter which combo I go with, though, he is always also gay to me
2. Otp
Gonna cheat right here right now
RyukBeyondMikaLawLightSuda
I can get away with it because I ship every possible combination.
If I must be more concise for the sake of otp, I can only consolidate to MikaMatsuLawLight.
3. Brotp
Hmmm I don't particularly enjoy him being best friends with any characters I haven't named, so I'll go with L & Light because there are so many good dynamics involving them
4. Notp
Mello/L/Near
I'm just more attached to the idea of him being an older brother figure to him personally (it's not canon I just like that specific version of his dynamic with either of them)
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
L Lawliet was not the name that killed L. I'm too tired to rant on this right now but something something him being attached to his own name and the title L as much as he is to any of his other numerous aliases something something his strained relationship with his father figure something something the fact that Near and Mello's legal names are explicitly the names used to kill them or needed to kill them, meaning they still attach to those names as being representative to them, meanwhile we never see the name that kills L floating above his head or written in the DN, and only learn of it in supplemental material.
6. Favorite Line
Oooh uh
"But it's true of both of us. Have you ever told the truth at any point during your entire life?"
7. One way in which I relate to this character
L 🤝 Me
If you put food we'll eat in front of us we will just keep on snacking and keep on snacking regardless of if we're actually hungry
8. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment
Those moments where he's very clearly slipping on an act, to the point you can watch in real time as his expression drops back to normal
9. Cinnamon Roll or Problematic Fav?
Definitely problematic fav
Seto Kaiba:
1. Sexuality headcanon
I predominantly headcanon him as gay but in choice moments as bi because I do ship him with a single female character. I do like aroaspec headcanons as well. Perhaps it would be good to go with queer or gay as my easy answers?
2. Otp
I have quite a lot of ships with him, but I have to say flareshipping
3. Brotp
To be clear, I also ship them romantically, but perhaps Duke/Otogi & Seto.
To be honest I thought up this on the spot since I don't really have a brotp for him specifically, but I do enjoy their potential relationship that only exists in my head thank you and good night
4. Notp
Gonna be real with ya, chief, pretty much any m/w Seto ship I can think of excluding Blue/Mizushipping
No huge reason, they just don't appeal to me at all
5. First Headcanon that pops into my head
Before abandoning solid vision as a way to duel Atem again, he kissed computer generated Atem at least once
6. Favorite Line from this character
I enjoy most of his lines so I'm just gonna blanket go with those lines about just how excited he feels thinking about crushing Yugi/Atem in a card game
7. One way in which I relate
Well now we both wear trench coats
The fact that I love them so much is partly his fault
Also general level of stubbornness
8. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment
Whenever he's practically gay on main. I love him, but he is not normal about some of the main male yugioh characters the ways he acts are funny and embarrassing
9. Cinnamon Roll or Problematic Fav?
Hahahaha oh absolutely problematic fav.
Midna:
1. Sexuality headcanon
Lesbian/Sapphic
2. Otp
Midzel
I just adore them
3. Brotp
Midna & Link
4. Notp
Midna/Zant
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
With the way she's familiar with Zelda when you first meet her in TP, I'm inclined to believe they spent a bit of time together before this, and more than just a single first meeting
6. Favorite Line
Gahhh off the top of my head I'll go with when she apologizes to Link in the Gerudo desert for using him
7. One way in which I relate
Bro if I was her and had to forever be apart from TP Link and Zelda I would cry before shattering the mirror and saying goodbye for the last time too
8. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment
I honestly can't think of anything
9. Cinnamon Roll or Problematic Fav?
She IS my Twilight Princess problematic fav😂
Bitchiness, manipulation, murder, etc
Zib:
1. Sexuality Headcanon
Biromantic Aspec
I like to headcanon Dib as asexual but not so with Zim, so the fact of Zib's situation I think would make sexual attraction a confusing endeavor for them
2. Otp
Ahhhh I have a lot of ships for him but Za2r is probably at the top still
3. Brotp
I don't have one specifically? All my ships for him I think can double as brotps, since I enjoy both platonic and romantic depictions of them
4. Notp
I guess if I had to think up one maybe zbarapr? Idk I pretty much ship him with who I ship him with, have one or two neutral parties, and the rest are practically notps
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
Zim is nonbinary and Dib was trans, so gender is just so confusing to them. The closest label for their gender crisis they can pinpoint is demi-boy, but they know it's not as simple as that either. None gender with left masc perhaps? But even that isn't always exactly the case
6. Favorite Line
I'm going to be honest they don't appear enough to speak enough for canon Zib to have a memorable line for me
7. One way in which I relate
Same as Seto Kaiba
Coat
8. Thing that gave me second hand embarrassment
Nothing specifically
9. Cinnamon Roll or Problematic Fav?
Problematic fav all the way😂

the fic ask game, 20, 18, 9 and 4!
20: Which fic have you put the most work into? Which fic have you put the least work into?
Uhhh, I would have to say Over Your Shoulder. I've been writing it for about 2 years now! I'm getting close to the end and it's made me sad so it's writing is on hold until I can pull myself together lmao. I've also put a shit ton of work into The Arrangement, my Loki fic. Did a lot of research into dresses, court life, Norse mythos, and lots of other details that are in that story!
I've put the least amount of work into my oneshots, I think. I know this is probably geared more toward long fics, but I put a lot of effort into all of those. With my oneshots they tend to just burst forth in a 30-45 minute writing flurry.
18: Do you feel like your work gets enough recognition? What kind of feedback do you like to receive?
I mean, what is enough recognition? It does bother me, on probably some elitist selfish level, that my smut gets a lot more recognition than my plots do. I think I've grown a lot in building and executing plots, storylines, character arcs, etc, and it tends to be the P in the V that anyone cares about.
The feedback I like to receive that is my favorite are those people who analyze stories, but I totally get that not everyone is like that. I love when people tell me they loved the chapter, especially when they pick out a line or plot line and call that out in their specific view point of it. I like to see how you all perceive my stories, because it's not always the way I would've interpreted it. It's nice to know that my POV can still be interpreted to be meaningful in other people's way of seeing the world.
9: Are there any fics you’d love to see but don’t want to write yourself? What are they?
I love fantasy AUs, even though when they're based off reality rooted shows it can be jarring to read. @andiebeaword has a lot of awesome fantasy-based fics and ideas that are so unique and amazing and I love reading each new one she comes up with!
4: Tell me about one of your abandoned WIPs. Why did you abandon it?
I have a disabled veteran!Reader x Spencer fic that I have been writing for a long time. The premise is that she is a drunk and struggling, and she witnesses a serial killer in action one night while stumbling home with her service dog, Daisy. She scares him off and initially the BAU thinks she could be the killer, but they let her go when they see that she's suffering from PTSS, not a threat. The killer shows up in her apartment so she can't identify him and tries to kill her, and it prompts them sending Spencer in as her undercover boyfriend to keep watch over her until the guy is caught or comes back.
I abandoned it because it was really similar to Mutual Irritation and not a lot of people seem to be interested in my BAMF reader stories. I don't understand why people prefer reading my ones where the reader isn't muscular or has bad habits. I think those character details are great to read about and watch them be navigated. I am still working on it, I just don't know if I'll ever post it.
Thank you! <3 I love questions like this! :)

https://frater370.blogspot.com/2021/05/magical-approach-to-plant-materia.html
This is a short piece on how I go about selecting, procuring, and using plant materia in my own magic. I have posted it on my other blog as it may be easier to read. I will also post it below.
Magical Approach to Plant Materia.
Overview.
My approach to plants has been influenced by several sources, some of which I have listed at the end, however it is far simpler and less involved. This has its costs as well as its benefits. I know what works for me, I know what mythos I like to clothe my magick in, and I know what is personally important to me as well as what is not. Therefore, it may seem like my approach is at odds with that of other people, and it is, but it is not at odds with myself! Try my methods out alongside the methods of others, experiment, and see what works for you.
Dried or Fresh?
One of the questions that people usually ask first is whether dried ingredients- the ones you usually buy from metaphysical stores- are okay to use in magick. Yes, they are. But fresh is always best. The same is true in cooking as well as magick. Fresh herbs, especially those picked from nature by the magical worker, contain more spirit within them, more essence. They are also more potent in their latent power. Notice I say latent, in magick the magician can awake the same power in dried herbs and consecrate it to work in alignment with their Will. But fresh herbs will have more of this latent power in abundance.
Sometimes certain plant materia is rare, expensive, or simply cannot be found within your climate. In this case, I recommend first seeing if there could be a local alternative, and if not, buying dried from a reputable seller. Of course if one is making incense from plant materia dried is naturally better to begin with.
Preparation Before Going Out Into The Fields.
Before going out collecting herbs I like to align my Will with the universal Will and local spirits. So first I wash my hands and face. Then I will go to my altar and pray and state my intention out loud. For example, “I wish to venture out and gather herbs for the sacred work of x” I normally have an idea of what plants. I want, and so I list those too, however, sometimes nature surprises with you with great additional plants or alternatives. I then petition the spirits of the local area and offer some fresh water and incense that they may help me favourably.
I then pack my things. This includes:
A small sharp knife which is capable of cutting plants and small pieces of wood cleanly and with one stroke.
A small silk lined bag. (I bought some silk and stitched it to the inside of a small bag)
A bottle of fresh spring water.
A smartphone which has a map for safety as well as an internet connection which allows for identification of plants.
Collecting Plant Materia From The Fields.
Most of the time I see a plant I know and want to work with. Other times I find I am drawn to plants as though they are calling me. In this case, I get out my smartphone and get to work identifying the plant. I check if its poisonous and superficially check if it is suitable for my working. If it isn’t but seems useful for another working I make a note of its location and leave it for now. I will detail how I decide what plants are used for later.
Once we come to a plant I want to pick I kneel by it. I place my hand upon it or just over it and I communicate with intent, energy, and words what I want to do. That is, I ask its permission to be an ally in my work. I then wait for a response. This tends to be an inner feeling of rightness or wrongness, both of these feelings are unmistakeable. Other times the plant seemingly responds a certain way to the wind which causes these feelings to arise. It is truly a matter of intuition and cannot be taught human to human.
If an agreement is reached I offer the plant spirit water and then cut only what I need from the plant and place it in my silk bag. Do not let it touch the Earth as the spiritual powers may become grounded. I recommend you research beforehand how to cut from different types of plants for the least harm. I then take my finger, dab it in the spring water and rub the wound of the plant channeling an intent to heal. Once again offer a little water to the plant, and thank it for its sacrifice.
If an agreement is not reached, which does happen from time to time, give your thanks and offer a little water anyway. Either move to a different plant of the same species nearby, or search for an alternative altogether. It may be that despite a book stating one herb as brilliant for this use, the local nature spirits may have a better alternative for the working at hand. Either way, we must respect the plants decision.
Obviously, if you are collecting dried herbs you are simply purchasing them from a reputable vendor. Whilst we cannot offer the plant water and some spiritual power may have been lost due to contact to the ground, or because it is ‘less fresh’ we can still awaken the latent power within them. I hold the dried herbs in my hand and reach out to the parent plant or plants. I then give thanks and blow into the herbs with my own life force. This in turn awakens the life force within.
Consecration.
Prior to magical work I take the herbs and wash them under the tap and place them in jars. Each plant in their own. I then gather materials for my ritual. There are many ways you can use plants in magic. You can create magical incenses, tinctures, teas, charm bags, mojo bags, and magical oils. The idea behind most of these methods is that the herbs are consecrated to a purpose and work alongside other herbs and materials to form a sort of spiritual being, an ally to do the work.
If in a charm or mojo bag the spirit will have to be fed with energy or condition oils. The rule appears to be that if you make a charm out of degradable materials, i.e., fresh herbs that rot and dried herbs that lose potency over time you need to continue feeding so that the spirit still has strength. In oils and tinctures this is not usually an issue as the oil or alcohol preserves the plant matter. So regular feeding is not required. Incense is also not required to be fed as the fire releases the spirit essence when it is burned.
There are different traditions as to the number of herbs used, the time of feeding, the method of feeding. As a rule of thumb- if it is a short-term goal once a week is fine. If it is a long-term goal for a slow manifestation process or ongoing process once a week for the first month and then once a month thereafter, or whenever it feels it needs it.
Occasionally, I set up a ritual magic setting, other times I do not. It depends on my mood and what exactly I am doing. For example, if the Herbs I have are for something to do with love I will sometimes perform the ritual of the Hexagram of Venus and channel that energy along with my own into the plant. This also allows you to call upon the energies of Venus to maintain the charge of the consecrated item. However, this is not necessary, your energy, Will and the spirits of the plants are sufficient. It is a good boost to have though if say you are using lots of dried materials. Another good idea is to consecrate a crystal or talisman (something more durable requiring less feeding) with the intent of maintaining the charge of the charm bag etc.
But in general, I take each individual plant and whisper my intent into it. Breathing my energy into it and drawing out the energy within it. I then add it to whatever it is I am creating. I do this with each one, spending some time with each herb. Sometimes if I have an appropriate incense I smoke the herbs over the incense. Once the product is constructed I whisper once more and breathe three times. I then seal it. This is true of all techniques I use except mojo bags which have a different procedure, albeit similar. But not wanting to get into the realms of cultural appropriation and being cancelled by children who have no concept of magical history or practice I shall not state the method here.
I normally feed with energy infused with breath, however, smoking through pertinent incense is also satisfactory. I normally use plant magic these days in oils and tinctures and use them to energise other things such as talismans as well as my own etheric body.
If a product has become spiritually inert I deconstruct it and bury the plant materials giving thanks and permission to depart. I then leave another offering of water and cover with Earth. It can be nice to bury the plant material near where you picked it and give thanks to the parent plant and local spirits. However, this is not always practical and your own back garden is absolutely fine! Unless it is a curse in which case away from the home, perhaps in a cemetery or church is better.
This is my own simple method. I have done and sometimes still do more involved rituals. But I don’t want to share them here. They are quite personal and in some cases are family traditions. I believe I have covered the essence of plant magic in a simple way which can be embellished with personal flair.
How I select plants.
I tend to start with the basics, what does it look like? What colours does it have? What are these colours associated with? I then branch out into folklore and myths surrounding the plants- what sorts of things did the stories have about the plants. What have they been traditionally used for in medicine? This allows you to start forming a tradition around the plant, a correspondence around the plant within which you can plug your magical intention. For example, we know Lavender is purple, purple is Yesod- the moon. Lavender has been used medicinally to calm and induce sleep. Therefore, lavender is a potent herb to include in a recipe for dream work. It is that sort of thinking.
Luckily, many people have already done this thinking for you. Which is the purpose of the resources list below. Like I say sometimes plants will call out to you, it is ultimately up to you to find out how they can work for you.
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that uprooting wild plants is illegal and environmentally irresponsible in the U.K. I thought I made it clear but if not- never take the whole plant, only what you need. Always research how to take from a plant without harming it. An app is okay for identification on the go but always strive to have knowledge of the local species first. Sometimes I assume I have made things clear when I have not.

I would like some shoujo recs! I haven't read any in a longtime. I don't mind if they have love triangles or love quadrangles as long as the dynamics are good.
i’m sorry for getting to this late! and i hope it’s okay to rec some josei as well, the only difference between shoujo and josei strictly speaking is the age demographic, otherwise both traditionally cater towards women (not that other ppl can’t read these obv!)
princess tutu (anime) - this is one of the greatest pieces of shoujo i’ve ever been exposed to. it centers on a rly clever and cathartic adaptation of the swan lake mythos, and what’s most interesting about it is its focus on storytelling. the primary tag line of the show is “may those who accept their fate be granted happiness. may those who defy their fate be granted glory”. it’s all about the characters making choices and realizing their own ability to write the story that follows, rather than remaining shackled to the insidious story penned by the primary villain, drosselmeyer. the relationships are complex and dark but also rly healing in the long run, and the ballet aesthetics are exquisite!
kanata kara (manga) - this isekai manga centers on noriko, a girl suddenly dropped into an alternate world where she’s referred to as “the awakening”, fated to awaken the monstrous sky demon. everyone in this world is bent on getting “the awakening” first to use it to their own benefit, but noriko is actually found by the sky demon, a boy named izark, and they start to travel together through various countries while on the run. the rly charming point of kanata kara is that noriko doesn’t magically know the language of the world, she has to learn it entirely from scratch. she’s also someone who works rly hard to be useful and a source of solid support for izark and the friends she makes, and i think that coupled with the narrative message of each person having their part to play in the betterment of the world is rly inspiring to read about
akagami no shirayukihime (anime/manga) - shirayuki is a girl with rly vibrant red hair, and the prince of her country wants her as his concubine bc of it, so she decides to run away to the neighboring country. there she meets the country’s second prince, zen, along with his friends at the palace, and she makes a new living for herself as a palace pharmacist. it’s a rly sweet manga that i appreciate for delving into the behind the scenes part of court politics, particularly bc we tend to think that fantasies imply battles, but that’s not necessarily the end all, be all of relations between countries. there’s also a wonderful focus on shirayuki’s work as a pharmacist, and how her knowledge of plants and medicinal herbs helps her support zen as he works to become a prince more involved with his people
legend of basara (manga) - this series focuses on a post apocalyptic japan ruled by an oppressive emperor. a child of prophecy is fated to be born into a village and save the country, and when twins are born, the villagers assume the brother is the fated savior. when they grow up, however, one of the emperor’s sons, the red king, kills the brother, and so his sister, sarasa, has to pretend she’s the one who died so she can carry on the revolution as her brother, else all hope is lost. all of this is tied in with the fact that in her rare free time, sarasa happens to meet a boy named shuri, who is actually the red king! neither of them know each other’s real identities or that they’re the ones facing each other on the battlefield, so it makes for a rly angty romance, coupled in with excellent political commentary on privilege and oppression. shuri has one of the best antagonist to protagonist developments i’ve ever seen, and sarasa is a great example of a character vested with so much responsibility, who wants to bring her people to freedom but also be just a normal girl
honey and clover (anime/manga) - this is one of my all time favorites! it follows some university students attending art school and their day-to-day life as they struggle to create, maintain relationships with each other, graduate, etc. i think chica umino’s works in general can be exemplified by her portrayal of every day life, and how it’s not so mundane and actually carries a lot of emotion. there’s so much catharsis present in this work for me bc it really reaches out to people who feel lost of purposeless or alone in their lives and feel like they have no reason to continue creating or moving forward. i think it also has a rly realistic portrayal of romance in the sense that its focus is on how characters grow through romance rather than whether they end up with a certain person. esp if you’re a college student, i think it’ll rly resonate with you
kobato (manga) - this was serialized in a seinen magazine for some reason but i think most ppl agree it feels shoujo in delivery. it’s probably my personal favorite clamp work. the floral aesthetics and artwork of angels is absolutely gorgeous, and it features a rly endearing story about a girl, kobato, who must collect “healed hearts” in a bottle in order to return to a certain place. i can’t really reveal what i most enjoy about it without giving away serious spoilers, but there’s that classic clamp execution of the binding nature of contracts and weighing the things we want against the things we must do, which makes for some rly heartfelt, angsty progressions. mostly i just love seeing the narrative unfold kobato, as she starts off as is this seemingly naive girl who we come to realize is actually hurting deeply inside
lovely complex (anime) - this is a classic so if you’ve already heard of it i wouldn’t be surprised but nonetheless it’s probably my favorite in that area of early 00s shoujo romcoms. the story follows risa and otani, who are known as a comedic duo in their high school bc she’s unusually tall and he’s unusually short. there’s lots of gags and kidding around, but ultimately the story delves into how both of them subconsciously fall for each other despite treating each other like gag men at first. there’s comedic love triangles and plenty of miscommunication galore, but i think it takes these shoujo tropes and puts a rly refreshing twist on them that drives you crazy in a way that’s actually very entertaining. the infamous bear curry gag has practically been immortalized in shoujo fandom
yumeiro patissiere (manga) - this is another one most people have probably heard of BUT, that’s usually bc of the anime. the manga is actually much shorter and different in some ways, and at the end of the day i think i prefer it, esp art wise as the charm in matsumoto’s art style is just impossible to replicate anywhere else. it follows a girl named ichigo, who has a very sensitive taste palate and is spontaneously selected to attend a patissieres academy, despite the fact that she can’t cook for shit! she’s placed in the a-level class alongside the academy’s three genius students, commonly called the “sweets princes”, and they befriend and gradually help her hone her skills until she’s at a level where she can compete with them on a team. all in all it’s a rly endearing story about perseverance, hard work, and the desire to make ppl happy with the food you make for them (kitchen princess is also a predecessor to this series that i think may even have heavily inspired it and i would recommend it, too! it’s just a little on the darker side in terms of dramatics)
this is just the start of a list tbh but these are some of my all time favorites that came to mind! do let me know if you try out and enjoy any of them, i would love to hear about it ❤️
