If the fact that I made 30+ memes about the topic didn’t make it clear enough, I’ve basically gone half feral over grizzled Rusted Knight Jaune. I can’t wait to learn more about his time in the Ever After and how he’s changed.
And yes, I do believe that he is the Rusted Knight from Alyx’s story, not just his heir or replacement. Maybe that will wind up not being the case, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Tumblr media
But do you know what’s really wild about Jaune being the Rusted Knight?
Everyone knows who he is. ‘The Girl who Fell Through the World’ is obviously a classic that’s been read by just about everyone as children. All of his friends, his classmates, his family, those kids he walked to and from school in Mantle. Hell, even their parents.
Everyone knows who he is.
Imagine Blake listening to Kali or Ghira read her the story, waiting for her favorite part: when the Rusted Knight rides in on his Jackelope to save Alyx from the Jabberwalker.
Imagine Weiss daydreaming about a knight riding to the rescue of his princess on the back of a big bunny, sweeping her up in his arms and riding off into the sunset to live their happily ever after.
Imagine Yang eagerly listening to Tai or Summer describe the knight clashing with the Jabberwalker and cheering when he strikes it down. Imagine Ruby being inspired by the Rusted Knight to be just like him: a hero who’s always there when they’re needed.
Imagine Pyrrha wanting to become the very best warrior just like him, unaware that she would play a role in forging his legend.
Imagine Nora and Ren huddled up together in a cave, taking shelter from a storm and reading about how the Rusted Knight fought and slew the big monster, taking comfort in the fact that at least in the fairy tails the heroes always win.
And imagine Jaune with a toy shield and sword, pretending he’s the rusted knight, being carried on his father’s shoulders as he duels with an imaginary Jabberwalker, unaware that he’s recreating his own battles.
Imagine Cinder huddled under her thin sheets, reading the book by moonlight and wishing a knight would take her away to a magical world where everything was okay.
Imagine Emerald reading the story of the Ever After from a book she stole, using it to teach herself how to read word by word.
Imagine Mercury wishing a knight would fight his Jabberwalker and protect him from his own father.
Just think about how Blake of all people reacted when he arrived to fight the Jabberwalker. She was giddy with excitement at seeing one of her childhood heroes in the flesh. If Jaune hadn’t removed his helmet, she probably would have asked for his autograph.
From Vale to Menagerie, the children of Remnant know the story of Alyx’s journey, and they know the Rusted Knight. When they play Ever After they argue over who gets to be the Rusted Knight and fight the Jabberwalker. And some of those children, knowingly or otherwise, are influenced by him to grow up and fight their own world’s monsters, to become huntresses and huntsmen, to be the defenders of Remnant and the shield between the innocent and the Grimm. Just like how the Rusted Knight has defended the Ever After from the Jabberwalker.
Jaune is one of Remnant’s childhood heroes. And I think that’s beautiful.
And yes, I did cry a bit while writing this. Thank you for asking.

So thanks to Erin Winn posting this concept art we’ve learned that the official name of Summer’s weapon is “Sundered Rose” !
Tumblr media
This essentially means Ruby named her own weapon in homage to her mother’s 🥹
Aside from that though, the naming of both weapons is very interesting to me
Sunder(ed) is a verb which means to divide, split apart, etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Crescent is typically associated with a noun to describe a curve, bend, etc. Such as the crescent phase of the moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, a literary adjective for Crescent can mean growing, increasing, or developing
Tumblr media
While the more likely answer is that Summer’s weapon is named Sundered Rose because it’s an axe that cleaves or splits things apart, and Ruby’s is Crescent Rose because of it being a scythe which is curved, a deeper perspective could be that Summer had to split apart from her family to go on that mission and Ruby had to go through some personal and emotional growth and development in the Ever After

Omg,
What if when Raven comes back (Come on V10!) we get a team-up/mission between just her and Ruby, paralleling the secret mission she went on with Summer that we saw in V9C10
So much potential
Raven being uncomfortable because she sees so much of Summer in Ruby, and also her trying desperately not to speak of what happened with Summer, but also a growing desire in Raven to protect her other daughter the last piece of her friend (lover?)

i do wonder if Lewis was the one to get out of Ever After, either because Alyx had a last minute change of heart or if her betrayal backfired, and thats why the story portrays her more positively but still keeping her negative aspects somewhat intact.
Like, her negative qualities are still in the story, because Yang mentions that Alyx lied and cheated her way through the Ever After but if Alyx wrote it herself and made herself look better, why even include those bits? But it does make sense to me that her brother, who was grieving her loss but also aware of who she was and what she did, would soften those traits out of love for her but not remove them because they were still who she was and to pretend otherwise would be a lie and disrespectful to her memory. Because while Alyx was selfish and even cruel at times, she wasn’t a monster. she was his sister.

Random rwby thought time 4876874:
When Raven was pregnant with Yang... what exactly happened to her shapeshifting?
Option 1: She just couldn't shapeshift anymore until she gave birth
Option 2: She could shapeshift, but only to a certain time. After Yang got to a certain size (only several weeks in tbh), Raven went "okay, nope, that would kill me, she's bigger than my entire bird body."
Option 3: Egg.

Personally I don’t expect team rwby to solve all bigotry, but I’d like to see them make any sort of attempt to at least begin to change something? Even relatively small scale?
The SDC seemed like the perfect opportunity but nope,
And maybe don’t kill,of characters like sienna and have characters like Robyn hill who are actively trying to combat class inequality get competed into fighting Salem instead
Movies like nimona manage it I don’t see why rwby can’t
This is the last time I'll be answering an ask to do with these issues in RWBY. I don't feel that there's a satisfactory answer, and certainly not one that I can provide. I've mentioned something along those lines before, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're not the same anon and didn't see my posted answer.
I recently reblogged a post about these issues, but that doesn't mean my answer has changed. That post basically said there is no simple fix, and that means it isn't possible to do in RWBY, unless it was a fictional fix that wouldn't work in reality, which would be disrespectful.
I'm not sure what you expect four teenagers to be able to do, even small scale. They're good at fighting Grimm, but that doesn't mean anyone's going to pay attention to them about anything else.
Ruby's lucky at least some people listened to her broadcast about Salem, but that's connected with Grimm.
Weiss was the SDC heiress but ended up having that taken away before she could do anything good with it, and actually doing anything would have had to wait until her father was no longer in control.
Blake persuaded Menagerie's faunus to form a militia and help save Haven from Adam's corrupted White Fang, but that took a serendipitous attack on her parents and their house partly burning down. She can't command that militia to do anything else.
Yang would struggle to persuade anyone to do anything. The last time Remnant at large saw her was during the Vytal tournament broadcast, apparently breaking Mercury's leg unprovoked. The CCT is still down, so chances are most people have no idea she was set up. I dunno, maybe she could intimidate some sense into people?
I'm not sure when team RWBY would have had time to do anything while in Atlas. Ironwood kept them busy. Were they supposed to take down or reform the SDC with the one night off they had? If they'd tried they might well have found themselves arrested, the SDC and its Dust is rather important to the Atlas military. And then where would they be with their goal of getting the second Relic from the Atlas vault?
As for after things fell apart with Ironwood... As important as these issues are, avoiding arrest and doing their part to help get word out about Salem, or helping Mantle and then rescuing Oscar had priority.
It's not the reason they've done it, they just happened to fall in love, but I guess it could be argued that Blake and Yang's romance is some sort of proof that faunus and humans are equal.
After Salem is eventually somehow defeated, I can imagine at least Blake working with or even leading the reformed White Fang and campaigning for faunus rights. I'm sure the rest of her team would help her if there's anything they can do.
But survival against Salem has to come first. So a huntress like Robyn Hill doesn't really have any choice. There won't be any world to improve if Salem isn't stopped.
As for Sienna, take that up with Adam. I'd much rather she hadn't been killed off too, but there was no other way that was going to end between them.
That's the best I can do, anon. I'm well aware it's not a great answer. I can't provide one. I don't think there is one.
I haven't seen Nimona, I don't have a Netflix subscription. Maybe I'll watch it the next time I want to rewatch She-Ra. I've read the Nimona graphic novel years ago, but I don't remember bigotry being solved in there. Unless you meant an attempt being made? I need to reread it.
Edit: this got long and I forgot about a read more cut until now. Apologies!

One of the things I look forward to the most in RWBY's next volume: the reunions with everyone, but SPECIALLY Ruby and Qrow, Qrow looked scared and hurt as hell when he couldn't contact them, and honestly, it may go quite similar to Qrow's first appearance with Ruby on the show, which I would find a cute and awesome call back Qrow Branwen and Ruby Rose (RWBY Volume 3) - YouTube Q: "Ruby!" R: "Uncle Qrow!" *They both hug, then Ruby smiles at him* R: "Did you miss me?" Q: *smirk like on that scene, but this time obviously holding back tears, maybe even his voice breaking a bit* heh, nope (note, he definitely did, also, he's the one holding on to Ruby in the hug this time)

Something I don’t understand is people saying Ruby is going to be homophobic about the Bees.
If anything, she’s most likely one of the most supportive of her sister (and new sister). She’s just not being given enough time to process it as she’s still reeling from everything that’s happened in a 24 hour period.
Tumblr media
The look that she gave Yang and Blake holding hands was probably a lightbulb moment. She asks Jaune what happened to Luis at the tree.
It gave her a reason to give herself to the tree to give her family a chance to live as she sees they have a purpose, not her.
Think about it in Ruby’s perspective! She lost the relics, she lost Penny, she doesn’t even know what purpose she has. But, she sees her family is happy, and she would never want to get in the way of that. So, if she gives herself, then maybe she’d finally be a huntress.

Hot take but I disagree with any theory that’s like "here's how Neo can still be redeemed.” Like no thanks I don't want that. First off she killed Little so just a hard no there. But also like. That's just not her character at all. It would completely undermine everything. And at this point I'm seeing Neo as a parallel/foil to Salem in that they are both so fucking consumed by their revenge and hate that it's all that's left. I think the point of Neo's arc was to show the audience that "there is no victory in strength," and there is no satisfaction in revenge. Neo is showing us what waits for Salem AND Cinder if they continue down their path, because in the end, revenge and hate aren't reasons to live. They will never be satisfied or feel fulfilled while they keep chasing these things. In the end, even if they achieve their goals, they're going to be left hollow. At this point, redeeming Neo would completely undermine this message, and I just don’t see it happening.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Neo as a character. Her design is great and watching her fight is always so much fun. This is in no way me saying she’s a bad character and I hate her. I love her! But I think giving her a redemption arc would do her and the story injustice at this point.

So I’ve been rewatching RWBY with a friend, trying to get him caught up before Volume 9. We finished volume 4 a bit ago, and I realized something in the Nuckelavee fight I somehow hadn’t noticed before.
When Nora tackles Ren and pushes him underneath the house, the Grimm charges right at them, clearly intent on stampeding through the house and either collapsing it on them, or crushing them underhoof.
However it never reaches them. Because Jaune intercepts it.
Tumblr media
What I never realized was that the Nuckelavee wasn’t just trying to stomp him here. He literally got in front of it as it was charging and stopped it in its tracks. Considering that a regular horse can easily knock a man over if it runs into him, that Jaune stopped its charge and took its whole weight bearing down on him, which has to be a couple tons easily, for as long as he did shows just how considerable his physical strength is. While not as skilled or experienced as the others on teams RWBY and JNPR, I think it’s pretty clear that in terms of raw strength Jaune is up there with Nora and Yang.
Combine that with his knack for strategy, semblance, and aura reserves it’s clear why Jaune is such a valuable member of the group. Really, it’s a good thing he’s on their si-

A few people on twitter have already pointed this out, but I found it pretty interesting and wanted to share it here with my thoughts
So there’s this part of Red Like Roses part 2:
Tumblr media
And then the knight from the volume 9 trailer who we’re pretty sure is Jaune:
Tumblr media
They’re all literally in a fairytale and Jaune is the knight in shining armour
However, he won’t be the one to wake Ruby from her “spell” or rather, her current emotional state. That’s something she’ll have to confront herself on this journey. But if the theory that Jaune himself is under some sort of influence due to his guilt about Penny is correct, perhaps Ruby’s arc of coming to terms with her emotions and everything that’s happened will be influential in breaking the so called spell placed on Jaune as well 🤔

There is no way out in the Ever After
Team RWBY has assumed that the tree is the way out of Ever After, because that's how Alyx got out in the story they know, and for the most part we the audience have ran with it, yet at the same time, we've also been assuming and speculating that Alyx is in the Ever After currently based off the intro
Yet, if Alyx is still in the Ever After, despite the explicit implication (it's noted that Jinxy seems older than he was in the story) that she got there a very long time ago, then that means she hasn't gotten out
Because the tree does not lead to a way out, it leads to nowhere
The intro also implies that Alyx hasn't aged, and is still a little girl just as when she fell originally, why is that? Simple, Alyx hasn't aged because non-natives to the Ever After are subject to some kind of Time dilation, time passes in Remnant, the denizens of the Ever After age, but those who do nor belong remain the same despite the world around them and the world they left behind moving forward, they are stuck
Heck, I'll bet getting to the top of the tree will just loop you right back to where you start, and Alyx has been stuck repeating the loop, at least until this current iteration where she starts noticing differences, footprints on the beach, a strange scythe, a disruption at the market where she's supposed to trade with Jinxy...
But how is Alyx's story known to Remnant if she never got out?
Easy
She did not go to the Ever After alone, there was someone with her
An Ozcarnation
It's generally accepted that most of the fairy tales and stories of Remnant were events experienced or witnessed by an Ozcarnation, and that he is merely retelling them
So I wonder if a past Ozcarnation fell through to the Ever After with Alyx, and subsequently died there, probably late into the journey, and was subsequently reincarnated back on Remnant, where he found that Alyx did not find a way back
Another thing we largely accept is that while most of the fairy tales in Remnant are real in some capacity, the tales we know are not necessarily accurate to what happened precisely, things are retold, elements are left out and kept secret, as has been Ozpin's pattern
Thus Oz gave the story of The Girl Who Fell Through The World a happier ending, where Alyx returned, but in truth, she was and remains trapped
But how will RWBY escape?
As I said, there is no way out IN the Ever After
But there might be a way INTO the Ever After
See, a theory I've had for a long time is that the answer to RWBY's predicament is in fact rather mundane, and that they will be saved by the return of a character we haven't seen in a while, a return that could be a callback to Vol 2, specifically showing up in the nick of time to save a certain someone from Neo
Raven is the way out y'all

This looks like Amity tower loaded on a ship
Tumblr media
Speculation time. It has been a minute since the girls were in remnant (this includes jaune. It’s like derry girls. He’s girls)
Looks like the world heard Ruby’s message, got to Atlas after everything was destroyed. Probably found Qrow and company, found Pietro and Maria on Amity, loaded it up onto a ship, and then hightailed it to Vacuo
Which would take months probably
My bet is there’s a RWBYJ memorial statue outside Vacuo in some kind of temporary housing
Anyways it’s been like half a year I bet by the time they show back up

I have a theory or speculation of how they will get rid of Salem. Not really defeat her or kill her, but break her curse.
I feel like the fandom always talks about defeat Salem and then Oz curse will be broken. I think it will be the other way around. They will break Oz curse and that will lead to Salem breaking hers.
Ozma mission was to unite humanity and reunite the relics. Salem need to understand and repect the cycle of life and death.
With how how volume 9 ended, Ozma objetive looks like an actual possibility. Meanwhile Salem doesn't seem to really care about anyone, not Cinder, nor Watts, not Tyrian nor Hazel. They all are tools and a mean to an end. Their deaths and defeats are more an annoyance to her than anything else. The only different seems to be Ozma. All she does is to get back at him. Is not love anymore, is hate and obsession, but the truth is that Ozma and his incarnation had been her only constant for a millennia.
How would she react if he was gone, this time for real. The gods will not bring him back a third time.
Imagine if she manages the get all the relics, yet the gods, seeing that humanity is united against her, lead by Oz's current incarnatiom closest companions, decided that Oz fulfilled his duty and now he can rest.
She once damned the fact that he continued coming back, now she would have to come to terms with the fact that he will not.
It will not be pretty at first, it will be bloody and violent, but the best chance for RWBY and co to get her to her and make her understand. Ironically not while she grieved her loved, but while she mourns the man she loathed for centuries.

Just had...a maybe-weird thought about a hypothetical V9E10.
Ruby opens her eyes, and finds herself...in Patch. Her home. Confusion sets in. She wanders around the house. And then she notices it.
The smell of burning.
And she finds the source: the oven. The contents of which ended up charred on the edges, not raising quite right.
Despondence sets in, especially when she hears two voices. Two eager voices. She knows they'll be so disappointed.
And yet, despite her mistake, the two girls aren't upset. It's okay if she burned them a little. They're still good enough! The older girl has a few, but the younger would have wolfed them down if Ruby didn't limit her. She made a mistake, but the two girls don't think any less of her for it.
To little Yang Xiao Long and Ruby Rose, she's still Super-Mom, baker of cookies and slayer of giant monsters.
And reliving this memory from her mother's perspective is what makes Ruby realize that her mother wasn't always perfect, that her mother made mistakes, but her mom still kept going. Those whom she was important to didn't think less of her for those mistakes. That for whatever Summer faced in her life, whatever struggles that mirrored Ruby's struggles, she persisted in being herself, both the heroic Huntress and Summer Rose.
Summer Rose was always enough.
Ruby Rose is enough.
