I mean we’re screaming but we did get confirmation that the Ever After was sort of a prototype Remnant huh?
“I need to know why my makers left me here. Only to leave and make all of you.” That’s what the Cat was going to say. It’s what they wanted to know.
The Brother Gods created a world so sectioned and divided and rigid that even they deemed it a failure. And then abandoned it to it’s dysfunction while they created Remnant.

Little Somewhat Red Riding Hood
I can’t even say how precious I found this character and their arc, so I had to make some art. If you’re a RWBY fan you can find it here on Rebubble, or here on Teepublic.
If you’re not a fan and just wanna say “wow pretty” you can drop me a Ko-fi here.

I like how the Herbalist has been gone for 5 episodes and is only now hatching out of his cocoons but the Paper Pleasers were so ready and so sure of what they wanted they came back almost immediately. Imagine the Blacksmith coming to them and they already have little sketches of their new bodies and a new name picked.
That, or they asked to come back soon so that their hero would know they were okay which is just...heart-meltingly sweet.

So I’d like to talk about one small part of Volume 9 that was never directly addressed or even noted by the characters, yet feels like it is EXTREMELY significant going forward:
Tumblr media
This infuriatingly CURIOUS Blue Butterfly that for SOME reason keeps showing up around RUBY.
As we all know, this butterfly first showed up in Volume 6 during Ruby’s conversation with Maria about the nature of their Silver Eyes. At the time, it seemed like a pretty vague bit of symbolism that we probably didn’t understand the full context for yet.
THEN that Blue Butterfly showed up again in the Ever After. Multiple times, and seemingly CLOSELY associated with Ruby.
Tumblr media
First it showed up during prior to Ruby’s game with the Red Prince.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, and far more interestingly, the Butterfly shows up flittering around Ruby herself after she runs away from her team and Little. Again clearly establishing some kind of connection with Ruby.
And the funny thing is, this Butterfly is not explained or even acknowledged by the characters this volumes. They’re just... THERE.
Then we get to this Butterfly’s final appearance in Volume 9, which also happens to be massively consequential when you start thinking about it:
Tumblr media
They appear in the Blacksmith’s flashback as the first being shown to be ‘awakened’ by the Brothers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Implying that this Butterfly is not just a denizen of the Ever After, but may well have been one of, if not THE first Afteran to have been created by the Tree after the Brothers.
Tumblr media
A Butterfly which again, seems to have a close connection with RUBY and others with Silver Eyes.
At this point, I’m wondering if Maria was actually wrong about the Silver Eyes coming from the God of Light. But rather somehow through this Afteran. Like what if the Brothers weren’t the ONLY denizens of the Ever After to come to Remnant?
Either way, there is clearly SOMETHING important about this Butterfly and how it connects to Ruby and the other Silver Eyed Warriors.
And as a final note, I thought I’d point out that while Volume 6 was the first time we were introduced to a specific Blue Butterfly in relation to Ruby, it wasn’t the first time we had butterfly imagery associated with a character. But it wasn’t Ruby...
Tumblr media
...It was WEISS back in Volume 3.
Connection?

There is no way out in the Ever After
Team RWBY has assumed that the tree is the way out of Ever After, because that's how Alyx got out in the story they know, and for the most part we the audience have ran with it, yet at the same time, we've also been assuming and speculating that Alyx is in the Ever After currently based off the intro
Yet, if Alyx is still in the Ever After, despite the explicit implication (it's noted that Jinxy seems older than he was in the story) that she got there a very long time ago, then that means she hasn't gotten out
Because the tree does not lead to a way out, it leads to nowhere
The intro also implies that Alyx hasn't aged, and is still a little girl just as when she fell originally, why is that? Simple, Alyx hasn't aged because non-natives to the Ever After are subject to some kind of Time dilation, time passes in Remnant, the denizens of the Ever After age, but those who do nor belong remain the same despite the world around them and the world they left behind moving forward, they are stuck
Heck, I'll bet getting to the top of the tree will just loop you right back to where you start, and Alyx has been stuck repeating the loop, at least until this current iteration where she starts noticing differences, footprints on the beach, a strange scythe, a disruption at the market where she's supposed to trade with Jinxy...
But how is Alyx's story known to Remnant if she never got out?
Easy
She did not go to the Ever After alone, there was someone with her
An Ozcarnation
It's generally accepted that most of the fairy tales and stories of Remnant were events experienced or witnessed by an Ozcarnation, and that he is merely retelling them
So I wonder if a past Ozcarnation fell through to the Ever After with Alyx, and subsequently died there, probably late into the journey, and was subsequently reincarnated back on Remnant, where he found that Alyx did not find a way back
Another thing we largely accept is that while most of the fairy tales in Remnant are real in some capacity, the tales we know are not necessarily accurate to what happened precisely, things are retold, elements are left out and kept secret, as has been Ozpin's pattern
Thus Oz gave the story of The Girl Who Fell Through The World a happier ending, where Alyx returned, but in truth, she was and remains trapped
But how will RWBY escape?
As I said, there is no way out IN the Ever After
But there might be a way INTO the Ever After
See, a theory I've had for a long time is that the answer to RWBY's predicament is in fact rather mundane, and that they will be saved by the return of a character we haven't seen in a while, a return that could be a callback to Vol 2, specifically showing up in the nick of time to save a certain someone from Neo
Raven is the way out y'all

Can't wait for RWBY to make me get attached to a cute mouse only for Little to not be able to leave the Ever After with Ruby and the others at the end of the volume and never seeing them again.

Crossover albeit controversial to some Meme:
Tumblr media
I mean. Look at this:
Blond/Yellow Hair. Check Blue Eyes. Check Sword and Shield. Check Lives with regrets. Check Has rusty armor, sword and shield by the time of his old age. Check Time Travel. Check Magic lady changed his body to younger one. Check Younger outside, older inside. Check Yellow magic hand. Check
if there is more, let me know

Here's a quick thing: I'm thinking of expanding Jaune's time in the Ever After, we saw his map what's to say there weren't any other dangerous entities there.
Volcano acre: Salamanders or fire spirits
Swan lake: Actually is more like a ocean....and holds sea monsters (he got swallowed whole once)
Triangle acre: He explored a pyramid or two, and in one, he had go go through a gauntlet of fights to leave
Blob acre: Expecting slime beings....encountered a hostile acidic one left a mark on his arm.
Tldr: Dude is probably hiding a canvas under his armor, and even becoming young again, the scars are still there.
Honestly, they could write a whole book about Jaune's time in the Ever-After and so many unexplored places.
I'd say go for it because there are many possibilities. Could even still have the JabberWalker following him into certain areas or the Cat continuously appearing and trying to break him down but he keeps on going.
Hell, perhaps in that Triangle Acre, he could find Juniper, because I think Jackalopes are a bit of a desert thing(?)
And for sure Jaune has a lot of scars hidden! at this stage, he hides how he feels both emotionally and physically.

okay genuine question, do you guys think they’re getting out of the ever after in v9 or it’s going to continue into v10? i ask this simply bc of the fact that we only have two episodes left and i don’t know how they can cover everything that’s left in only two episodes (unless episodes 9 and 10 are both going to be around 25 minutes long like the typical seasons finales except maybe it’ll be ch9 too)
like this is a list of everything (im assuming) they need to conclude
- ruby’s arc conclusion
- neo/curious cat conclusion
- (maybe what happened to little confirmation??)
- summer rose (there’s no way she isn’t a pivotal plot point in ruby’s mental state right now)
- figuring out how to even get back to remnant
- them actually getting back to remnant
- JWBY finding ruby
- (possibly) the actual story of alyx/lewis
and sure they could maybe conclude all of these things in 2 episodes, if they do it in a satisfying way. bc i feel like if it’s not done right it’s just going to feel rushed which i really hope it doesn’t. im torn on if they will continue into the ever after for at least a few episodes in v10, or if they’re gonna somehow make it to vacuo at the end of v9
so yeah what do y’all think?

I really love how they framed the birth of the Ever After and the Gods. It starts as an act of creation, as any true beginning must — presumably, that’s why Ambrosius is the one who’s power and creations are tied toEver After most closely, why he could access this world at all.
But even if their lives were an act of creation, the first POWER the Brothers learned was destruction. (So, you know, the God of Light is full of shit for calling himself the older one.) They learned to destroy first, and they got sick of being the ones to help and heal in due time.
It was their job to be curious, to find what needed fixing or could benefit from improvement. But what they created was exactly the kind of world a child would create — strictly regimented, everyone with a part to play whether they want to or not. They left out the aspects of eventual humanity that actually let them grow on their own - knowledge and choice. Because it’s clear the Cat never really got either.
And so, in the end, the entire world of Remnant exists because they decided to…pass the buck. To make it someone else’s problem, to create the Cat to be Curious and make their own world instead.
All that to say…just as I’m sure we’ll see the Brothers someday, I think the Cat will put in a reappearance. And that perhaps there will also be a look at what the Brothers created after they left Remnant.

Okay there is a lot to unpack from A Knight's Journal but as a small aside, the mere concept of "Splaturday" warms my heart. Like, the Market Acre making a special day for these humans? The "Farmers" Market? They made little magic automatons for these kids, every day at first, because they didn't quite get this whole "farmers market" thing or this "days of the week" thing but they wanted their protector and his charges to be happy and fed and have a holiday just for them so they went along with it.

Okay, but we realize that Team RWBY is at LEAST going to float the IDEA of sending Salem to the Ever After, right?
I mean, just imagine Salem going through ASCENSION...

RWBY SPOILERS
Jaune said that Alyx sacrificed her brother to get back to Remnant. What if that's what Team RWBY must do to get back? What if Jaune offers himself so that they can go back? Honestly, I don't want him to go. Without him, it won't be the same. Besides, Ruby, Nora, and Ren can't afford to lose another friend.
