I'm probably in the minority with this but I wish the first 3 arcs of Sailor Moon Crystal were a two-part movie series (like they did with Eternal and Cosmos.).
This will probably make the Crystal fans seethe at the mouth bc God forbid anyone has an opinion different from them. But we probably would've avoided a lot of the embarrassing poor animation choices had they turned the material into two-part movies for each arc. They'd have more time to focus on the good bits that moved the story along. They'd have more time to also focus on the animation quality of the movies.
Maybe, as a result, they could've spent more time honing their character designs versus getting better after three FULL seasons of SMC.
Sorry not sorry, the designs in Eternal and Cosmos are way better than the poor attempts to copy Naoko's style that plagued the first 3 seasons of SMC.

Like talon dick au, league jason/tim au, meta literally anybody else, bruce treating tim the worst because he came after Jason, etc.
These are all themes and ideas you could explore with the characters they actually apply to and it’s not lost on me that such a heavily queer fandom ignores black and brown people and women so much in favor of white men who are canonically cops, or have classist ideals, or whatever. It’s not even the aus themselves that are bad (well. To you ig) it’s the fact that it’s so obvious that ur yearning for a specific character or story that’s already there and just waiting to be explored in full but you can’t see poc as people enough to do it.
Anything you write about talon dick can be explored through cass, league cracker aus through Damián, meta anyones through Duke, tim being hated through Stephanie. These are themes that ALREADY exist but y’all are so entangled in making white men kiss that u ignore them it’s so fucking weird. Even that ‘trying c+ parent’ thing with Bruce where he knows he’s paranoid and controlling but he knows statistically it helps but he also wants his family to be happy? Or him being the only smart competent person ever (🫥) and backbone of the JL? That could be Babs! READ BIRDS OF PREY!
Anyways it’s just so disingenuous like first of all I don’t believe anyone who says they don’t read enough ONLY to include Duke; not only bc it’ll be someone who’s self admittedly never read anything but also bc Duke is THEE easiest character to get into rn. I don’t believe people who write the aus above and have the characters they actually apply to as cardboard cutouts in the background have any care for said characters and I don’t believe that people who project their own “leftist” ideals onto white characters before even THINKING about a woman believe shit. That’s just me tho idc

So, I was lying down in bed, and I had the thought of "what if Halt was actually vulnerable with Will? Like, what if Will asked for help from Halt after they came home from Skandia, like mental help, and Halt responded with stories of his own. What would that sound like?" And I came up with this:
"When you've been through as much as I have, Will, you learn to find happiness in the mundane. I grew up basing my entire personality off two things. Eventually, I was forced to leave, and I had to completely re-learn my sense of self. I didn't have any access to what I used to think was my only purpose in life, and I was homeless in a brand new place with a brand new culture and a language that I only kinda knew. But, being homeless in Araluen, you have a lot of access to nature. And, when I was young, my love of nature was the second of two personality traits. So, I took that, and I ran with it. I would only stay in taverns when it was raining out, and I would spend as much time as I humanly could in the trees, by the river banks, climbing hills, making friends with foxes and birds, and generally just finding who I was. It took me way longer than I'm making it sound, trust me, but I think it helped me once I settled down in this cabin. You, Will, have grown used to trauma being the default, and the downtime feels uncomfortable to you. You need excitement and variety. The mundane makes you feel depressed. But trust me, Will, there is beauty and excitement everywhere here. You just need to find it. And I can help you, if you'd like, but I think it's best done on your own."
Yeah, this is a normal thing to do. Writing entire essays of one character providing comfort and support to another character all while lying flat down on my bed and then retyping it all out onto my phone. I am a sane and normal human being who totally isn't way too obsessed with writing for her own good.
@an1d10t sure I'll tag you. How boutcha read this? Lol

hmm i think another thing i like abt kencen is chess should be played on a smaller stage. now i am an intimate staging truther for almost every play so i may be biased but that doesn't make it less true for chess. like i get the appeal of the big sets bc of the way they travel thru location and our initial reaction upon literally visualizing chess on a stage, but i think it makes it so easy for characters to get swallowed and for the stage to feel very empty. which may work like. conceptually but i think in practice it just limits the actor's effect. & i know that you can argue that chess is a show that needs to get by partially on spectacle bc of the quality of the book but i disagree just choose a good book. or make up for it w staging and strong character choices. it's not like it has a shallow plot bc it really doesn't it just doesn't have a well resolved one. which is actually another argument for it to be in an intimate space bc it will make the audience feel more personally invested in the characters rather than the story and will care what happens to them even if they leave with questions (does this distinction make sense?). i'm also not saying that chess Couldn't be done well on a big stage i just think most of the time it isn't
