Man. May I just say. I love how in this game it’s like “you have four suitors and three of them are the most repulsive men on the planet then you have this really energetic guy who wants you to step on him if he does anything bad BUT he’s trying his best”.

You meet Ingo in Hisui and he offers you the Path of Solitude.
In the next game of the Legends series, you meet a white-clad stranger trying to find a way to travel overseas from Johto and he offers you the Path of Multiplicity (Doubles) challenge.
In the game after that, you meet TWO dishevelled weirdos in ancient Unova and they offer you the Path of Cooperation (Multis).

Im trying to take note of real world influences in XIV for some projects going forward, like languages used in areas (French names in Ishgard, Roman terms in Garlemald) or like in aesthetics I suppose (like Radz-at-han in particular reminds me of Istanbul), and I'd like to hear others' thoughts about those kinds of influences that they've noticed
(little more context on things im working on under the cut)
right now this has a lot to do with things like stamps lmao I have in fact gotten kinda into stamp collecting now and I'd like to design some for XIV areas based on similar irl counterpart countries? like regular stamps and stuff like a sort of Garlean version of US postal war savings stamps? so having irl countries to reference for stamp styles would be helpful to like figure that stuff out
and honestly all of this is just part of making a physical copy of Q'ihnn's journal more complicated than it needs to be but never let it be said that I dont have a love of unnecessarily dense world building
plus by having a list of reference countries I can also build out other kinds of like, souvenirs? in the journal from the places visited across msq - a lot of things I see people keep in journals, especially travel ones, are stuff like wrappers or other packaging, pieces of maps, receipts (that's its own rabbit hole ive gone down), ticket stubs, and other various little paper things along with photos and drawings (which are much easier to manage in comparison)
cause a lot of this shit doesnt extensively exist within the game often beyond a mention in a stray line of dialogue or two so there's advantages to having irl cultural and historical reference to make something that feels real - plus im often off in lala fantasy land in my head because im stuck at home a lot, im not exactly well traveled, so im sure its easy for me to miss especially like language use in certain areas (I didnt even notice how French Ishgardian names were until someone else made a joke about it, it just doesnt occur to me)
like some of these influences are fairly obvious, right, like Doma and Kugane being Japanese inspired and Greek influence around Sharlayan (which the Greek/Roman dichotomy that Sharlayan and Garlemald have going on is its own whole thing I could go into btw they're so similar yet different in such interesting ways) - but places like Ul'dah?? not a clue. Ala Mhigo? no idea. The Crystarium and Eulmore in the first??? oh I'd put my head through a wall trying to thing of a real world counterpart for reference
granted now having said that someone is going to point out something obvious that I just entirely missed some way or another lmao but like that's why im asking, right? anyway if you have nerd ass thoughts too just hit me up

In response to this post (https://www.tumblr.com/messiahzzz/742694448371236864/im-not-here-to-claim-that-wyll-doesnt-deserve?source=share) I saw the other day claiming that it's hostile for Wyll fans to "demand" more content for him, and that objecting to his lack of content is "misinformation"... I have so many thoughts.
I have a bit of an issue with calling a difference in opinion "misinformation" as though Wyll fans are lying about the fact that Wyll, as a character, is underdeveloped. I see a lot of people online who use data to back up their own opinion by manipulating statistics in a way that supports their argument without looking at the information holistically.
Sure, we can look at the length of time that Wyll spends on screen, and look at the number of words he was allowed to say throughout the game so say "haha! See, he gets plenty of screen time so you can all shut up about how his character has been done a disservice!" However, there is a huge problem when all of his "screen time" is purely used as 1) a method of moving along the main storyline because he is the *Son*of the Duke of Baldur's Gate which is the titular city in which the majority of the game is set or 2) as a backdrop to focus on other characters' stories (I'm looking at Mizora and Karlach here).
If we were to separate out scenes in which Wyll is present and scenes which revolve entirely around Wyll as a person and not in reaction to someone else, the number of "scenes" he has, according to the list given by the OP, goes down significantly.
1. The "Meeting Karlach" scene is almost entirely about Karlach and the outcome can be decided by the player character without input from Wyll. I would only very loosely call that a "Wyll scene" because it shares very heavily with Karlach.
2. Similarly, the "Mizora scene" has things happening to Wyll but much of the conversation happens between the player character and Mizora - they talk over Wyll as though he is a naughty pet who peed on the floor and the grownups have to decide how they're going to clean up his mess. This is, again, a case where Wyll is in the scene and things are happening to him, but we don't get any one-on-one scenes with him exploring how he feels about it, or what even happens to him. We get a line from the Narrator which tells us that it - his torture- feels like an eternity for him but lasts only seconds for us. What happened to him during that time? How long was he being tortured? Was he actually dragged through all Nine levels of Hell during that time? Did he meet all the devils at each level and get tortured by them? We don't know any of this, because the scene was not focused on what was happening to Wyll. It was focused on Mizora and how she was able to punish him as his Patron.
3. The tiefling party dialogue, where he spends most of the time complaining about looking like a tiefling regardless of whether he is speaking to a tiefling, in a party filled with tieflings, is... well. It's certainly a choice that was made by his devs and story writers. Do I think Wyll would spend the whole tiefling party complaining about how people who look like *tieflings* don't deserve to party because they have horns and claws? No. Do I think the brief kiss you can get from him (only if you choose one very specific dialogue choice and none others) is enough to balance out the rest of this inconsistency for his content in Act one? Also no. But I hope this doesn't come off as too "hostile" and "antagonistic" in the face of the fact that he was allowed to talk for such a long time! We should be grateful that we're even able to hear his voice for all that time even if the quality of what he's saying is subpar, right?
4. The dance scene is cute. It's one of the only scenes that is all about Wyll as a person and a character. He doesn't really talk about himself much, but at least Mizora isn't there so that's... something, right?
5. More scenes where Mizora is the focus. She comes to camp to demand that the player character frees Zariel's asset (and they can talk over Wyll the entire time with basically no input from him. Nothing about his background, past, present feelings, hopes for the future.) Do people understand the difference between being present in a scene and being the *focus* of a scene? A good example would be the difference between a scene where Mizora is talking to the player, vs when Elminster comes to tell Gale to kill himself. During the Elminster conversation, the player character is there, but it is clearly a conversation between Gale and Elminster. There is the option for Tav to leave the conversation to Gale (an option which is also there for Lae'Zel scenes with the Githyanki) and the interaction can go forward without much input from the player. We are watching two people converse. When Mizora visits camp, she talks to the player character and talks about Wyll like he's a dog. She is very much the focus of the scene and Wyll is a prop or background character.
6. The fact that Mizora joins the camp and there is no option for Wyll or Tav to tell her to leave is NOT A GOOD THING?? This just further goes to prove how much of Wyll's "storyline" is actually just a Mizora storyline. If we separated the parts of Wyll's content that revolve SOLELY AROUND the white-coded devil woman who enslaved him as a child (17 yo is a child to me, argue with someone else about that) ... he has the dance scene, the proposal scene (where the intimate scene happens off screen because the devs really just didn't want to animate a sex scene with a black character because who wants to see *that*?) and maybe a kiss at the tiefling party if you choose the one very particular dialogue tree that leads to it. (Honestly, why do you start that by saying "surely you know why I came out here to find you" ?? It doesn't intuitively lead to a kiss in my mind. AND THEN you have to roll a persuasion check to convince him to kiss you?? WHAT?? WHY?)
I, as a Wyll fan, have an issue with the fact that he has so few scenes AND that most of them are of such low quality that they can barely be counted as his scenes at all. So stretching the numbers to include any scene in which Wyll is even present in the scene... It's just not good enough to combat the obvious lack of care that has gone into the writing of his character. Sorry if that seems ungrateful, or "hostile" 🙃
On to the issue of his autonomy: I don't know if OP just hasn't played with Gale, Karlach or Astarion in their party to the end. Karlach's autonomy is that if you kill Gortash without her in your party, she will get angry and leave. Gale can decide to keep the crown and become a god whether or not you want him to, even if you tell him you don't want him to. Although Astarion needs the player character's help to complete the ascension ritual, if you don't help him and can't convince him that foregoing ascension is the right thing to do, **he will leave your party with all the equipment and gear that he has on him**. I don't know what he says if you complete the Cazador quest without him in your party but I can assume there will be some furious words and he will possibly leave. Why? Because his writers have given him enough personality and agency that I pretty much can guess how he would react to any situation. They are all clearly able to show their own wants or needs regarding their own personal storyline.
Wyll, on the other hand, apparently has no wants or needs. If you go to the Iron Throne and let his dad die, he is fine (i.e. he wont leave the party and there will be no actual consequences). If you choose to reject Mizoras' contract and condemn his father to death, he is fine. If you choose to damn him to an eternity of serving Mizora in return for his father's life, he is fine. The only circumstance in which he will leave the party is if you go the evil route and kill all the tieflings in Act one. Regarding his own personal storyline though? Tav makes all his decisions without discussing it with him and he apparently has no problem with that. There is no option to say "hey man, I've only known you for a couple weeks. Maybe you should decide how your life and future will play out?"
Again. It's an issue of both quality AND quantity.
Finally, the issue with the "Ansur quest" being moved from Wylls main storyline to a side quest is symbolic of the rest of the issues we have with Wyll content. Many of Wyll's quests could be moved to the "main quest" or "side quest" subheadings without affecting the game at all. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. The companion quests should be PERSONAL to the COMPANIONS. The fact that THE ANSUR QUEST ABOUT THE EMPEROR was the CULMINATION of Wyll's PERSONAL QUEST was a travesty. The developers would not have been able to easily move any other companion's ENDING TO THEIR PERSONAL QUEST to a side mission without having any impact on the game because there was care an thought put into the other companions' personal quests that wasn't put into Wyll's personal quest. I'm hoping that they're gearing up to give Wyll an actual ending to his personal quest and that's why they've changed that quest to a side mission. HOWEVER, it has been months since the "full release" of the game. There have been 6 patches and 19 hotfixes and there have been no material improvements to Wyll's content and characterisation. The hope is getting spread thin.
Honestly, I feel that people who are only willing to point out the "hostility" of fans who noticed a discrepancy between the quality and quantity of content devoted to a black character and feel "scared" to interact with the fans of said black character should stay in their own fandom spaces where they feel safe. No one is asking for a saviour from the fandom who feels uncomfortable owning up to their own racism and anti-blackness (hint: we live in a world that was colonised by white supremacists hundreds of years ago. We ALL have racism and anti-blackness to unpack). No one is asking fans to interact with Wyll when they don't want to. No one is asking the fans to stop being racist. We're asking the *developers and writers* to stop being racist. To listen to black voices if they feel the need to throw a black character into their game which is mostly marketed to straight white men. And give Wyll the content he deserves.

Hello, I have a question you mention that Papyrus not knowing anything is fanon and not canon. Im not saying your wrong but tbh i can't recal moments from the game that would prove that statment. But i also haven't play Undertale in a while and was wondering if you could give examples from the game.
Heheh, well, it's hard to say exactly what papyrus does know, but there are indeed hints he knows more than many people, especially early on in the fandom, realized. Like.... there were people who thought he doesn't know what death or murder is (and maybe there still are, though I shudder to think of it)... despite having multiple lines of dialogue that disprove this. Anyway! Evidence Papyrus knows more than he lets on include the following:
He refers to Mettaton having eyes in a call you can get well before the fight with Mettaton that reveals his EX form:
Tumblr media
And the jetpack phone all the way back in freaking waterfall
He references the game having multiple endings in True Pacifist:
Tumblr media
As well as other game mechanics like repeating dialogue or the keyboard
his nerves here and his really specific denial of you witnessing his first conversation with undyne, which implies he is aware you were in fact there
and then of course there's this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and plenty more that are more ambiguous, like hints about the amalgamates (be nice to people made of strange materials), trying to make a puzzle resemble his face (from a perspective he shouldn't be able to view?), or even possibly not knowing what happens when you get to the capital because well... a lot of things could happen when you get there. It's not as certain as any other monster might think.
Even if you don't really consider those last ones, Papyrus obviously hints at much of the same stuff about the game as his brother. It's just that they're almost all in his phone calls, which many people never do... So while it's maybe not canon that he has a vast amount of meta knowledge, it's definitely fanon that he's super naive to everything or just outright stupid. That's not true in the slightest.
Anyway, for even more Papyrus facts and musings, I have a few more links: a compilation of facts made by @insanelyadd, and this old post about mysterious papyrus things--though note that some of the links no longer work. You may also want to check out my undertale meta tag, which is a catch-all for interesting headcanons and analysis of the game, including some of papyrus' oddities.
All screenshots I posted above come from @undertale-encyclopedia, which is a truly invaluable resource for all the game's dialogue. I definitely recommend checking it out if you ever need a refresher ^^

Ok spoilers below for the new bg3 epilogue (shadowzel edition only so i dont spoil the entire epilogue)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not quite it yet but still new: pretty sure the last 2 lines from lae weren't there before + they're now in clothes instead of armour which makes sense implying theyre having victory sex
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't resist showing karlach and wyll LOOK AT THEM OUTFITS i wiggled happily so much when they came out of the portal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its so cute how she makes sure shes using mingle correctly. And the. 'I wont be far. Not tonight. Not ever. ' ?????????? Im dead. dying. SOBBING SCREAMING Lae'zel you romantic bastard
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shes grown so much im 😭😭😭😭😭 im so in love with her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cant show much about shart since i cant talk to myself but from some of her own dialogue responses for when the others speak to her imply shes been living in a cottage near to her parents cause i spared them (and living with laezel ofc.. i wonder how the interaction with her parents is like) she was milking a cow before this and learning selunite ways (her outfit description says smt abt it being a selunites) plus has taken in a whole bunch of animals, including the owlbear now (a choice you can make) shes also been helping laezel fight off githyanki forces while still having this farm life (gathered this from laes dialogue)
She got what she wanted, shes thriving and Im so proud and happy for her
Tumblr media
Thats all for them :')
This is all from my own choices so Im so curious what the other recordings are. The fact we even have this new epilogue is crazy. I adore this game with my whole heart

Im not sure if this was answered already but what do you think was going through silcos head when Finn tried to stage a coup? More specifically the part where Finn got sliced and silco had a small heart attack cause the possibility of him dying in that moment was NOT low.
That's honestly one of my favorite scenes, and showcases so many complex dynamics, on so many levels<3
Tumblr media
Like - on the surface, it's obviously a taste of the day-to-day pressures of leadership Silco contends with. He's King of the Hill in a snake-pit: everyone vying for his position, his second-in-command's loyalties suspect, his own seat on the throne forever precarious.
It's a reminder. The Undercity is a dog-eat-dog world - and Silco has made it ten times worse with the strife and suffering his Shimmer empire sows, even as he's created leeway for more economic and social opportunities by changing the Lanes into an enterprise.
Tumblr media
And on a deeper level, it symbolizes the cost of power he's coveted since episode one, and the price he must pay to hold on to it, while his own priorities are increasingly veering off in the direction of a little Blue Bundle of Booms. Who, need we add, by the simple fact of her existence, actively makes his day-to-day governance of such a large operation that much more difficult.
Tumblr media
And yet she's his Ace in the Hole - his literal Kingmaker - who's stolen a goddamn Hex-gem from Topside to arm his cause, and who is inadvertently the reason Talis decides to request a parley, because the Council are coming to grips with the chilling possibility that the Undercity may declare war, and that there could be mass casualties on both sides.
Tumblr media
Then the whole scene is just a flawless summation of the mounting chaos that is engulfing Silco, and how it reflects in his personal relationships. Because he is being left behind by the breakneck pace of change that Jinx now symbolizes, and because he did screw up, and let his allies down, and because he is growing older, and less adept at the game, because fatherhood is slowly unfitting him for the 'survival of the fittest' mold he'd once been so gung-ho about.
Tumblr media
And of course, playing into the whole scene is the fluid power dynamics between him and Sevika. Ostensibly, she's his right hand, and therefore his subordinate. And yet, in that moment, she's that thin line keeping him safe from a literal coup under his nose. All because, in that moment, he's reduced to his core components: his words, his most potent weapons, and the spiel about loyalty, where he actively appeals to the impetus that drives Sevika as a character:
"Brothers and sisters, back to back, against whatever the world threw at us."
On one level it's a deeply manipulative statement. And on another, he's making sides, and making plain he's on her side. Literally: Look how much we've suffered, look how far we've come, look at this callow whelp threatening to undo it for his own ego.
That bit of dialogue is almost a plea, and puts his cards on her table. It also puts the onus of whatever comes next on Sevika, and gives her the choice: Kill me, and doom our cause or Kill Finn, and we'll stay to fight another day.
Tumblr media
And you can tell by his expression that he's not sure what the outcome will be. It's a flip of a coin, and he's inwardly prepared to meet his maker if the gambit fails.
And then, ofc, Sevika shocks us all by choosing to side with Silco.
Not only that: she cuts Finn's throat with the same arm she lost by saving Silco's life in the Cannery.
Tumblr media
The narrative symmetry is just... mwah~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite part is the way Silco transitions from "Oh shit I lived?!" to "Hmph. Of course I lived."
Because it gets down to what makes Silco such a compelling character. It's not simply his strategic mind or his cunning. It's his talent to think on his feet, and to adapt to the shifting currents.
He's succeeded in a volatile environment like the Undercity because he's not fixated on The Plan to the detriment of all else. Rather, it's because he finds new avenues to execute The Plan each time there's a change in the larger environs, which remain beyond his control because this is not a character in a position of privilege.
This is a ruthless man at the mercy of progress' black underbelly, as much as any other character in the story.
Tumblr media
There's so much more I could say about this scene. But it's truly the moment I came to adore both Silco and Sevika as a terrifying duo, and to understand that there is so much history and so many layers between these characters that the series never gets a chance to explore.

hello there dog!!! firstly, i just want too say im incredibly proud too see how far you have come, dialtown is so special too me, and for not only that game to be so loved, but also for you too be so involved in the community, is amazing keep up the great work! i do have a question, i am working on a theory pertaining to my favorite characters gingi/milton, and if i may, i have a couple questions about him specifically, if you don't mind of course :) 1. what made you come up with the design/personality of gingi?
2. what are your personal feelings/thoughts on gingi? are you satisficed with them as a character? or are there anything you wish you could change now? 3. this is a wierd one but, gingi generally does not really care what he looks like/what others think, so im really curious why hes so meticulous with making his phone/type head, and if he is so bent up about it, why not try to get someone like Oliver to make him a more proper one? instead of replacing the rotten flesh over and over
4. idk if you can answer this one, but i dont think it can hurt to try...was gingi around, before callum lost his mind?
if you cant answer this, then i have another, what flower would best represent gingi?
Milton question:
ok so....did Callum just straight up cheat on his Marla with Milt?...or am i mistaking something? what i read on the wiki says that milton and Callum had a romantic...fling?
2. did norm know milt? where they friends?
3. does mingus know at least some of the extent of miltons involvement with callum?
4. are there any plans with milton? he seems like such a cool character with crazy potential
that's my questions done, again thank you if you answer! and if not, thank you for making a truly special game, cant wait too see more gingi and dialtown in the future
1)Design for Gingi was primarily based on Frankenstein's aesthetic applied to a the chupacabra. Personality was largely ripped from quite a few unpublished stories/ideas I had before making DT. There's a few protagonists in other things I'd written as potential new game/story ideas that are eerily like Gingi.
2)I'm really really happy with Gingi as a character and I wouldn't change anything that I've established. I like how Gingi starts the game and changes by the end because it's pretty vast, but also not a complete change (and it happens very very gradually.)
TBH, outside of Gingi's interactions in DT, the fandom doesn't really know anything concrete about Gingi due to Gingi's poor memory. Until Gingi formed real human relationships, there was nothing to anchor to, just fragmented and barely remembered individual interactions. Honestly, the bigger picture is really interesting and I'm very happy with Gingi as a protagonist and I'd love to make sequels to DT as I've had concrete ideas for where the character would get up to in potential sequels for years now!
3)Gingi's flesh-head is a bit of a mystery. Gingi doesn't have the same adverse reaction to rotting things that most people do, but does have a general chip in its shoulder about being judged as lesser by others. Gingi (generally) does not make efforts to change its appearance to be seen as less repulsive by others, as we can plainly see from the fact Gingi often forgets (or refuses) to wear clothes.
4)I have all the main character date of births written down, so I could tell you Gingi's exact age... but it's more fun if I don't.
FOR MILT:
1)I'm not really sure why the wiki says that. There's no canon materials that state that Crown + Milt had an affair together. I think someone just read between the lines and stated their hunch as a fact.
2)Norm and Milt met but didn't know each other well. There was a cut mention of Milt in Norm's dialogue, but after a lot of head-scratching, felt the topic was too forced. Norm wouldn't have volunteered the information unless it was relevant to the scene and Gingi would not have asked.
3)Mingus knows about Milt, though not intimately. The only person alive during Mingus' lifetime who could've talked about Milt to her was her grandmother Marla, who was a husk of a person for Mingus' whole life (and in particular, talking about Milt would've hurt too much for her given their closeness.) Mingus knows about Milt from her obsessive study of her paw paw's presidency, but not much more than any historian/social studies teacher would. A lot of information I'd consider very important about Milt was never put to paper.
4)I'm not 100% sure why the fandom likes him as much as they do, given how little of him the fandom has seen (and how little information there is about him out there so far.) I just wanted a few references to him included in canon so I could potentially reveal more about him one day without fans wondering how this SUPER important character had never been mentioned. It's incredibly likely that I'll show more of Milt in future DT stuff due to how instrumental he was in Crown's decision-making + rise to power. There would be no practical way to expand on Crown without discussing Milt more.
There's a much bigger picture that the fandom hasn't seen much of that Milt is very important to, though it isn't often relevant to the modern day events of DT. Understanding Milt isn't important to understand DT itself, but is to understand both Crown and exactly how the world (and by extension, Dialtown itself) ended up exactly the way it did. And with time, I will discuss that some more.

Nah okay I’ve been playing bg3 and it’s good, but I’ve kinda been like. :/ because a lot of the games feels unfinished to me, but seeing posts about wyll and Karlach (my two main characters I have in my party aside from Shadowheart, who i thought her story was just progressing really fast?) and realizing that oh, this isn’t a broader pacing speed in the game or a broader level of the game not being finished, it’s a wyll (and somewhat karlach) thing. Ah. Like Mercury kissed Wyll at the tiefling party, but Wyll hasn’t had any new dialogue options since, and I’m halfway through the underdark??? Also I completely missed his side quest with his father, companion quests should not be that easily missed!!
I was rlly surprised with how fast the dialogue trees are exhausted in this game in general tbh, it’s quite limited so far compared to its peers in the genre. Also this is a personal gripe but i hate that they don’t have clearly labeled when a dialogue has a “flirt” tag, i got to the tiefling party scene and literally everyone propositioned my character, despite the fact i was only flirting with astarion and wyll. Adding a little heart at the end of flirtatious dialogue options doesn’t break immersion it literally just clarifies the tone the line is written in 😭
Also the character creator got so much hype, but legit it was the most disappointing customization I’ve seen in a hot sec. Like dai (a game from a decade ago) and Elden ring (a game where you don’t even see ur characters face nearly ever) both had far more advanced customization, and like. Even that wasn’t enough when it comes to representation. Also like dhgjkg for a game that advertised its ~risqué~ content, a) it’s quite tame, and b) you can’t even pick your chest size? 🤨 (which again, is not even getting into the extreme limitations w different body sizes and shapes)
Like it’s a fun game and I’m enjoying myself, but like. For a game that swept at the award season and costed me eighty bucks, I kinda feel like the game should feel finished, let alone have some level of polish. (Also also im glad it’s getting the content updates it clearly needs, but it’s insane that it won GAME OF THE YEAR! and is still getting base game content updates???!??? I really hate the trend it’s emblematic of in the industry tbhhh)

have been absolutely losing my mind for the past few days because i havent seen anyone really talking about how autistic-coded chiaki is. so im making a post about it with ss from the game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
starting /w something simple but this is just very much her hyperfocusing to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is one of the big ones -- her struggling to understand people & relationships is something i can HEAVY relate to & the fact that she connected it to her (likely) special interest is just sooo good
Tumblr media Tumblr media
again she's connecting things back to her special interest and bringing it up in seemingly unrelated conversations. thats autistic girl behavior if ive ever seen it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
more struggling /w relationships and socialization . i would also like to add that even though im not sure if it's an actual symptom of autism i am also tempted to just stay on the sidelines due to having a hard time with social cues and whatnot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this one is more subjective but i noticed that a lot of her dialogue + voice lines usually have the same tone/diction and she only really gets super excited when shes talking about games
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this sort of embarrassment after going on a rant about something you know a lot about is so so so extremely real
anyways. im sure there are more but it's late and i need to go to sleep so ✌️ hope you enjoyed

so sorry to keep going in your askbox but the way the lin kuei brothers dont even feel like brothers. Of course its partly because bi-han is vilified to an absurd degree so of course he would go against his brothers at the bat of an eye (and frankly, Im shocked we even had one "are you both unarmed?" line with him sounding concerned for them at all), but its so wild to me that, while I COULD kinda understand for tomas, kuai liang is willing to abandon him to his evil ways just like that? He let your dad dies but he's still your brother. There were so many ways to play up the drama of the two falling appart while still having loved each other growing up together but there was NOTHING there if this was a bond that broke so quickly and easily. Not even a moment of quiet introspection from any of them. bi-han written this way was a lost cause tbf, but not even a small scene of kuai liang with the focus is on his new scar, looking at his unconscious brother, just before leaving him behind, while being the last time he'll see him not as an enemy? Okay. They were more brothers in the previous timeline where they technically never interacted while both alive and yet kuai liang went out to avenge him.
don’t apologize for going into my ask box the story is objectively stupid and we need to complain about it
THEY DIDN’T FEEL LIKE BROTHERS!!!! they didn’t feel like they had any bond which is wild cause as you said they were more like brothers in previous timelines where we never got see them interact. the potential for an established dynamic and bond between brothers was right there. a heartbreaking rivalry was right there, perfect for a great sub-zero vs scorpion narrative.
i hold that dialogue of bi-han asking tomas and kuai liang if they’re unharmed so close to my heart but it also feels WILDLY out of pocket considering how the writers end up characterizing bi-han. also the fact that they put in a scene of a rock falling because bi-han accidentally kicked it (idk if it was an accident because who the fuck even is this bi-han) and THEN had him ask tomas and kuai liang if they were unharmed.
kuai liang just dumping bi-han’s body at the lin kuei and “letting” bi-han corrupt the lin kuei and then running away to japan to form a new clan is fucking insane. he would NEVER abandon bi-han nor would he just allow the lin kuei to be corrupted.
we waited so long to see proper interaction between the two and we don’t get anything. kuai liang and noob saibot’s two second interaction in mk11 meant more than whatever shit show the new game gave us

#########
Fourth Wall AU
Characters:
The Narrator
Player/Oswin
Stanley
The Adventure Line/Lynne
Plot:
• The Stanley Parable (2013) started off as nothing more than a video game with a basic ai Narrator repeating a script with minor changes every run.
• Eventually, the Narrator gains consciousness but keeps to the game, trapping himself in repetition as opposed to trying to escape
• He has major issues with the endings such as the zending and the confusion ending. While he knows he was purely artificial originally, he prefers to ignore it and believe he is a real being with free will.
• Aside from the Narrator, everything in the game is coded. Stanley is just a vessel for the player, all the objects don't really talk, ad everything is planned, despite what the Narrator believes.
• He remembers every reset. Though not every ending in incredible detail. Endings like the Zending, Confusion, and the Skip Button are vague memories in his head. The skip button being a time-sped up ending and becoming a blur to him that he forgets normally.
• The Narrator knows about the developers, but cannot speak to them.
• All Stanley's input is from the players. The Narrator doesn't know this and just thinks that Stanley either has terrible memory or has vastly different mood swings.
• In the Not Stanley Ending, he realises that the player isnt the Stanley he believes he knows and splits them. Leaving the Player above the two doors room.
• The Narrator, in the HD remake, cant believe that there are real people. He knows of them, but knowing that they are with him in the game will give him an existential crisis/make him distressed, and as a result, reset the game (see: confusion, zending). So the game has a feature where it wipes his memories from the Player unplugging the phone up until they split.
• Things change when Ultra Deluxe comes out.
• The game is revamped completely, The Narrator can feel how smoother the game feels, especially since its running in unity despite it looking exactly like its 2013 version on the source engine (? fact check this)
• One major change is that the Narrator can hear some players as they play the game. Given that they have a working mic and all.
• Surprisingly he doesn't mind it. Enjoying getting reactions from his script despite the fact its real people.
• Ultra Deluxe loses the feature to reset the game if the Narrator gets too upset. Instead, its a plannes forced reset.
• Eventually, he ends up with a player whom he enjoys hearing the responses to. Responding to the Narrator like they were in a conversation as the player rambles. Internally, he's scared to break the fourth wall. Afraid it might spook the player and lose this one shred of genuine connection.
• They continue like this for a while. The narrator subtly changing the delivery of his lines to better suit the players moods. In turn the player responds as usual, without noticing that the Narrators dialogue is changing.
• Its subtle. Being more harsh and boring when they hear the player talking about an exam they should be studying for and not here playing the game so they can leave and do well. Being more soft when theres that all too familiar hurt tone in their voice while they play. Being a bit more snarky when they laugh at everything he says. The player even goes to the starry dome to study, and the Narrator feels like he is hanging out with a friend, knowing that the player would never go into the other room. (They have, once. then never again)
• At some point, the Narrator slips up and responds to something the player says and as while he fears a negative reaction, he gets a surprised gasp followed by a few noises he cant place before a "Is that new Narry dialogue?! lets fucking go!"
• The narrator sighs in relief before chuckling a bit. "Language, dear player."
• The player pauses. Now there is the silence he was afraid of.
• "...Hello?"
• "Hello, Player."
• More silence.
• "This... this isnt prerecorded right? No voice recognition system in the game-?"
• "Prerecorded?! I'll have you know I do all of my voice lines live for you players, thank you." He scoffs, somewhat offended
• "Have you been listening to every players reactions this whole time?!"
• "Well not every player of the Stanley Parable. But right now its just been you that ive been hearing for the past few months."
• "Oh my god you must've heard me talk about your voice so much- im so sorry."
• He laughs, surprisingly genuine. "Nonsense! It's been a delight hearing your responses and your voice, Player-"
• "Oswin." The player says gently, "My name is Oswin, Narrator."
• "...Well, Oswin. To be perfectly honest, I adore hearing your responses to the game and to my script. You are one of the rare few who respond as though we were in conversation and truth be told, its a welcome change to the players who tell me to piss off or talk to themselves."
• They snort. "You mean the youtubers?"
• "Definitely."
• Thus starts A friendship between Oswin and the Narrator
• With this new connection, the Narrator slowly gets used to the idea of sentience and the real world. Feeling more and more human as the friendship helps him understand his world and beyond.
• He gets used to manipulating the game around him. Locking the game to be only on Oswin's computer and being able to interact with him through screens.
• While this happens, the game slowly starts to glitch. Stanley becomes sentient, going through the same dillema the Narrator had, however the Narrator is able to reassure him and help him understand.
• It takes a bit of work, considering that Stanley up until their instance of the game locked onto Oswin's PC had undergone every ending an unfathomable amount of times. With his sentience he has to process the fact that both he and the narrator were trapped in the game with no free will.
• At this time, the Narrator manages to enter the real world. With some help of coding magic and Oswin's powers alowing him to exist in the real world.
• The Adventure Line grows sentient too. However due to the fact that the Line was never fully fleshed out as a character, when it came to the real world, it turned into a teenage girl by the name of Lynne.
• Stanley also enters the real world.
The three of them are able to pop in and out of the Parable. It being treated more like their second home

UNDERTALE YELLOW TECHNICALLY NOT LIVEPOSTING. PART 2!!! SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
part one here if you guys like my rambling
we're back! we must continue the journey after . killing a lot of people.
Tumblr media
this reminds me of that thing in undertale with the uhh. lesser dog snowmans. HONEYDEW RESORT ENTRANCE!!:
Tumblr media
interesting. i wonder who runs this place? it looks cozy
(will ruin the atmosphere via murder) oh my GOD WHY IS THE WIND BLOWING. thats horrifying!
Tumblr media
What.
Tumblr media
I KNEW THERE WOULD BE A HIDDEN ENTRANCE IN THE BACK AHAHAHHAHAH
Tumblr media
oh my god
Tumblr media
who the hell killed everyone LAST time???
Tumblr media
well. not for long. (slowly pulls out gun)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you dont FUCKING say huh
Tumblr media
how is coffee better than ice.... oh . it isnt. nvm
so wait why would i use the coffee ammo??????? is there a reason or
oh man, im so happy i finished that puzzle!
Tumblr media
(realizes i have to do it again) fuck
Tumblr media
we are struggling YAY WE DID IT martlet fight(?):
Tumblr media
oh you poor poor soul
Tumblr media
girlie we are a Homicidal Child
Tumblr media
Killing you
WHY IS STILL TRYING HELP US. WE ARE GOING TO KILL YOU
unfortunately, yes martlet, we DO try to kill everyone
Tumblr media
yeah
Tumblr media
HER MUSIC IS SO GOOD??? BUT AHHHHHHHH WHAT THE HELL ARE HER ATTACKS AHHHH-
oh my god
it took me 7 TRIES!!!! YAHOOOOO.
fuck. she retreated. is that supposed to happen?? i feel like maybe im on a neutral route now. im not sure if she was supposed to retreat or not, she also mentioned how like. shes glad we attacked early cause she would've told us where everyone else is. you know what i think im gonna retry the battle
Tumblr media
interesting... if i apologize multiple times i get new dialogue. is she gonna spare us?
nevermind it doesnt do anything special it just. skips her boss and puts on neutral i suppose?
im gonna try apologizing and getting to her LAST line of dialogue and just. shooting her . eheheh
update: almost gave myself spoilers trying to see if there were any strategys (specifically for the part with the falling objects. god i hate that part)
so i just wasted time repeating the bossfight AND almost gave myself spoilers!! ..uwahhh
so. since i wasted so much time on martlet. i'll give some personal insight onto how the attack is.
God awful
most of her attacks are easy, *especially* since if you look at the crosshairs, it shows you what direction the attacks will go in/come from.
Tumblr media
so all you need to do is just stand there.
with the boxes, you just have to stick to the ground. its safest, just make sure not to get crushed by objects/incoming boxes. the WORST attacks in my opinion would be the feathers exploding into 3 extra feathers attack, and the wind attack with falling objects.
the first of the two is easier, just stay away from the big red feathers and treat it all like a bullet hell.
i still havent figured out a strategy for the wind attack, i honestly just hope i dont get a bad combination of objects and usually heal right before the attack arrives.
but, yeah! i also noticed if you apologize and then attack right after, she seems to skip a line of dialogue and also maybe an attack? its hard to tell.
so yeah! apologies for rambling
moving on!
Tumblr media
i like the fact you can see flowey during this cutscene
too bad we. crash. the boat.
whoops
Tumblr media
YEAHHHHHHHHH desert!
i'd also like to ramble once more; i like how all of these locations and characters clover meet are kind of implied to exist at the same time as the other monsters?
like, the dark ruins: frisk wouldnt encounter it because she never falls into the dark ruins.
the other part of snowdin? it makes sense it exists; we took a different exit out of the ruins, and if you look at the base game, you can overlook a HUGE forest. who knows how many more monsters there are around?
Tumblr media
i think im gonna feel the worst about killing him. look at him. a little guy
OH NO I JUST REALIZED
Tumblr media
HIS ATTACKS ARE AFFECTED BY HOW DAMAGED HE IS..
CAUSE ON THE ATTACK WHERE HE GOES UP AND DOWN THE SCREEN HE JUST. STAYS AT THE TOP WITH A SAD EXPRESSION..
NOOO-
Tumblr media
also for some reason they remind me of. binding of isaac enemies. i dont know why.
one mORE thing i'd like to wonder: where is mo????
is mo gonna like.. come back? im just curious cause like he got a whole intro, theme song, everything. so surely hes gonna come back right??
Tumblr media
you've gotta be kidding me
Tumblr media
this. this is just sad.
the singular tree in the desert
on a lighter note i love the sprite artwork though!!!
OH MY GOD MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MO- DID HE JUST RIP OFF HIS SLEEVES??
Tumblr media
hes like. trying so hard to be cool. and its kind of cool in a way if that makes any sense at all
Tumblr media
hell yeah mo time
Tumblr media
wait does he know we killed everyone
Tumblr media
hell yeah mo
love how he doesnt care that he killed everyone he just wants money. i love mo. fuck i do NOT want to kill him
damn i just realized he leaves when you buy his stock. i wonder if maybe on a pacifist route that'd be how you befriend him?
too bad he's gonna. erm. probably die. damn i do not wanna kill him
i have one again reached my image limit so i am taking a break. thats all folks! hope you enjoy my ramblings

"It seems that Arch Gate Studios,in all it's misplaced admiration, was so eager to absorb the life's work of that crooked charlaton,Joey Drew, they didn't fully realize what they had acquired.
Call it fate that I just happened to be there on the loading dock that morning. When the delivery boys dropped one of the crates,it smashed open, and inside there was something truly special. A mass of yellow steel and beautiful rivets. Some kind of machine. No one knew what it was. So the fools put it on display for all to see. But I could tell that this crude device held secrets. Secrets that could be mine."
-Machine-
-----
The Machine lives. And so do I. Day 6 complete, heck yeah, not too long now. I've had this idea since I saw the prompt on the calendar when it was posted. I had to.
You know, with the exception of… certain lines (*cough** cough* elevator scene *cough*) there's something interesting about hearing Wilson's dialogue. It's probably what he says (and what he lies about) that's intriguing, combined with Tim Simmons' voice acting, and the fact that he's such an important character in the plot that I have to pay attention to what he says, but there's something in his lines that ends up catching my attention, it's interesting! Also, yes, the guy highlighted in the background is him! Pre-Cycle experiments. You know, the days when he was healthy (and had hair). Eventually I will show here his complete design.
And while we're here, and I've never seen anyone mention this in here before: did you ever notice that the model of the little Ink Machine in ArchGate is different from the model used in Joey's apartment at the end of BATIM? The general design idea is still the same, but the model used in BATDR has certain differences when you compare it to what was used in the first game. Like, in BATIM, the machine has small wheels underneath it, but in Dark Revival, the wheels have been removed. Or how the model from the first game seems to be bigger than the one from the second game. (Or the fact that in DR the machine doesn't have extra gears on both of its bottom sides, but only one on the left side, which I only realized now after finishing this drawing, oops)
I thought it was something interesting to talk about.
(just to be clear, I'm not implying that the machine at the end of IM and the one at the beginning of DR are completely different machines in-universe. I'm sure the one on ArchGate is the same one that was in Joey's apartment, I just thought it was cool to note the design differences between the models, that's all haha)

For the fic ask game: missing or obstructed, three and/or four?
[missing or obstructed] [ask meme]
im gonna stick to the first chapter of this fic for my answers bc i dont remember it as well as i wish i did and feel like probably i shouldnt reread the whole thing at 2am. looking at it tho i realized i hadnt updated it in a year and... bro thats so fuckin sad. i miss her
as such im not sticking to one line for either question. woe get a whole dang paragraph. i guess
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
honestly, i think some of the strongest lines in that fic are the openers, but really, every single sleep fact / life series pair was really good imo. they were my fave part of the fic
A hypnic jerk, also known as a sleep start, is a small, sudden, and involuntary startle which one experiences while in the process of falling asleep. It is often accompanied by the phantom sensation of falling from a great height, the would-be sleeper forced into wakefulness at the moment of simulated impact. Hypnic jerks are not uncommon and entirely benign, experienced regularly by well over half the population with no ill effects.
When Grian starts awake after jumping off the edge of Monopoly Mountain, his experience is not at all like that.
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
hmmm. i said id stick to ch1. of the ch1 dialogue, probably this exchange?
“Scar,” Grian asks, “What did you dream about?”
“Nothing. Not that I remember, at least,” Scar says, and Grian thinks killing him hurt less. “Grian, are you alright?”
i just liked how indirect grian is being w scar and how very direct hes being w the reader in the narration. this whole exchange was super fun to write, i wish id gotten to do more w scar before i swapped gears focus-wise and became a treebark guy,

tlou hbo s1 ep2 thoughts (w/ spoilers)
the opener for this ep was honestly scarier than the first imo, seeing the woman inspect the dead body and find all the signs of infected were SO creepy, and then the slow dawning of fear in her throughout the scene, the quickness with which she both proposed bombing the city and accepted her death. such a good building of suspense throughout
and then also the way her bomb suggestion was a lead into the later conversation with joel tess and ellie about how the cities were bombed. i love that we don’t actually know if jakarta was bombed or not, the idea that everyone came to the same conclusion without following from example is even more harrowing of a reality
ellie all curled up in the grass comfy and asleep i would kill for her i would die for her i want to hold her in my hands and protect her from the world
“fine i’ll just throw a fuckin sandwich at them” I LOVE THIS GODDAMN KID
joel and ellie’s back and forth throughout the ep is so fun i think it does such a good job of setting up their chemistry without getting them to connect to early
the little giraffe toy in the weeds :’(((
tess basically immediately adopting ellie im obsessed. i love that we get to see a bit more of their dynamic than the game bc it really highlights that tess is a good person at heart even if she says otherwise. she connects with ellie quickly, and the way her empathy and hope slowly starts shining through as the ep progresses (and even as she begins to accept her fate) really says so much about her character
“there’s no boyfriend that’ll come after you?” “…..no.”
the foreshadowing of ellie guessing at the infected types is awesome, i love the fact that she technically got them both right. related but i wonder how they’re gonna do infected types like the shamblers if spores aren’t gonna be a thing
that little frog vibin on the piano what a talented little guy
THE HOTEL SCENE IS TOO EARLY i wonder if they’re gonna have a hotel basement scene now?? probably not which kinda makes sense, it’s a scene better played than watched. but it would’ve been cool to see how they did it
love the expansion of the fungus lore, the interconnected-ness of the tendrils is so cool and so goddamn creepy
the entire clicker sequence was SO GODDAMN GOOD. the way tess and joel don’t tell ellie (or the audience) anything about what’s going on really forces us to put ourselves in ellie’s shoes so that we’re as terrified as her. and the fact that there doesn’t need to be a word of dialogue said to get us to figure out how the clickers work is so goddamn impressive, a shining example of ‘show don’t tell’ i think
am sad that no bricks or bottles were thrown tho
the rooftop scene. i could cry with how faithful this show is
the change in dialogue at the capital building,, “i never asked you for anything… not to feel the way i felt…” i am in so much pain.
on that note it’s scenes like these that really make me love this show bc there really is something for everyone. connecting back to the infected lore from earlier was so fucking cool and felt like such a natural change and the changes to tess’s dialogue make the scene so fresh and still impactful for people that already know the game
i love the specific line “save who you can save” because i feel like it does the perfect job of emphasizing how much tess buys into the cure while also setting the stage for joel’s decision down the road. like at the end of the game, joel really does save who he can save, it just isn’t in the way tess intended. it’s a way for him to still hear her words and connect with them but also have the intention twisted
okay bear with me but i actually liked the inclusion of the cordyceps kiss, it takes something that is so normal and even beautiful to us but then perverts it like that’s textbook horror baby!
general overview: how in the hell was this ep even better than the first
