Deep in my Jude Law obsession right now and also relistening to Winnetou audiobooks and I feel like he would make a great Old Shatterhand.

Maybe not now but in 2010 he would be perfect. I think his portrayal of John Watson in films with Robert Downey Jr. gives the same vibe. Not really sure who would be a great Winnetou.

Also, not many fanfics out there I know the books are gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide, however, I would appreciate any and all recommendations in English, Czech or Slovak.

Question for the Karl May fans around:

Has anyone read "The Sable Hunter"? It's a rework of the "German Hearts" cycle. (The Dervish, Death Valley and The Sable Hunter). Sam Hawkens, Dick Stone and Will Parker are playing the role Old Shatterhand usually does. Charlie doesn't show up until the epilogue, where the three visit him at home, in Germany.

I was wondering if that scene shows up in other translations. I only found it a few years ago. The volume hadn't been translated in our language before then.

I'm not very fond of the trilogy, but it's hilarious how *everybody* shows up (including Winnetou and David Lindsay), except Old Shatterhand. Sam and Lindsay even ask each other if the other had received any news from him. Winnetou is all distant and mysterious. And then that scene at the end, it's hilarious. 😂😂😂

I know there are a lot of differences between editions and translations with Karl May, and I was curious about this one.

Today, I read about secular acceleration in historical populations. It a bit complicated, but the short story is that the people in the past matured slower than we do today, due to nutrition and diseases.

Apparently, it was not unusual for males in the mid-19th century to get their voice break at 17 or 18 years old. OS being a child from a poor family would certainly have had a bad nutritional status, and therefore would mature rather slowly as well.

So at the beginning of Winnetou 1, you have to imagine him having his voice break. This is somehow an incredibly entertaining picture. (Luckily for Winnetou, he is two years older than Old Shatterhand, but would have been affected similarly).

The beauty of hurt/comfort! Plain and simple. The hurt one doesn't really desire the pain, but he knows it is necessary in order to live. So he accepts it from the hands of the savior. He ultimately trusts him. The caretaker doesn't want to cause pain at all, but he knows he has to if he wants the hurt one to live. In the end, after the agonizing treatment is done, they are both hurt, and the only thing left is to wordlessly hold each other, apologize for "I am sorry to hurt you" and "I am sorry for having you go through this with me"...

I have finished Winnetou 2 and I’m like what??? Lots of stuff have happened in a short time. Anyways, really good cowboy adventure novel, didn’t expect to like Old Death and I sobbed a little bit. Good that there were hugs tho, Winnetou and Old Shatterhand pretending not to know each other was really funny. And os being like: what do you mean that he was in love with a woman once and he didn’t tell me?

Also I quite not get how some scenes could have like really good speeches about freedom and then be disrespectful? I don’t know
