Hello hello! We’re getting close to the end! I’m in the process of working on the grand finale, but it’s shaping up to be longer than I intended so this may extend into 8 chapters instead of 7. If that ends up being the case, those two will likely not need to be two weeks apart. Anyway, for now Zac is missing, Emily and Murph are freaking out, and Lou and Brennan are planning something stupid. It’s a little short, but I hope you enjoy the escalating madness!

“Something’s wrong with Zac.” The instant her connection to Zac waned a second time—and she heard what sounded suspiciously like a taser going off—she used all of her energy to connect with Lou, Brennan, and Murph at the same time. 

What? Murph was the first to answer, and Emily could tell he was probably pacing lines in his room again.

How do you know? Brennan asked after a moment, Lou opting to stay quiet.

“I connected with him again, briefly, but… did you not… hear him yelling?”

Of course that was him. Lou complained loudly, clearly putting the pieces together before everyone else.

Shit. Murph swore, his voice laced with enough worry that Emily’s already nervous stomach churned.

Brennan was silent for a long moment, before tentatively confirming, I assume that means you’ve lost him again? 

“Yeah… I’m really worried. You know what they’re like.” 

Is it safe for you to be connecting with all of us like this? Murph questioned worriedly, the other two murmuring in agreement.

“Uhm… probably not. But I don’t care right now, I’m worried about Zac.” Emily ignored their concerns, shaking her head. “Besides, if they come for me I can check on him. Indirectly, of course.”

I’m not really in favor of this plan. Murph's disagreement was immediate, the other two guys sighing as Emily sputtered a little to try and defend herself.

If it’s a risk she’s willing to take, let her take it. Lou cut in, Murph starting to complain again before Brennan spoke up and over him.

We don’t have a lot of options here, Murph. 

“I’ll be fine, it’s not like they’ll kill any of us.” Emily shrugged hopefully, before awkwardly adding, “Probably.”

These are bad odds. Murph still wasn't convinced, his worry shaking his words slightly. How are we supposed to communicate without you?

“I’m sure you boys will think of something.” Emily said lightly, brushing off Murph’s concerns again. She frowned a little, trying not to let his anxiousness get to her. “Besides, if we can confirm Zac’s okay, all we need to do is find a way to escape and bring him with us.”

Now that’s a plan. The grin on Lou's face was loud, eagerly continuing, If we catch them by surprise, we can easily overpower them.

Emily grinned in return, tipping her head back to gleefully look at the ceiling. “You know this is exactly what they were afraid of when they caught us communicating the first time?” 

Guess we have to make up for lost time, then. Brennan’s dismissal was met with a cheer from Lou and a laugh from Emily, Murph opting to quietly let them finish. I’ve been first in the rotation for the last couple of days, so if that’s the same tomorrow I’ll start something up.

“I’ll give you the update when I’m back, then.” Emily nodded to herself, just in time to hear approaching footsteps from down the hall—just as she’d planned. “Oh, it seems they’ve caught on. See you all soon!”

Be careful. Murph said softly, a gentle smile breaking out overtop of Emily's near manic grin.

Give ‘em hell. Lou all but demanded, nearly cutting off Brennan in the process.

Keep me updated. 

“Okay!!” She nodded one last time as her door slid open, giving wide, innocent eyes to the scientists standing in her doorway. “Hi!”

“Again, Emily?” The one in front asked tiredly, all of them quickly stepping inside.

“Sorry! I can’t help it, I just get so lonely in here!” Emily smirked as all but the scientist who spoke twitched in annoyance, them making a point to ignore her comment of, “None of you who come here to see me are any fun.”

“You really need to stop getting into trouble.” The guy who spoke was the only one who'd talk to Emily, usually giving in to her conversation whims whenever he'd come by.

“Well, maybe I do it so I get a chance to talk with you!” She shrugged innocently, the scientist sighing as the others pulled off the wires and pads used to monitor her ability and allowed her to stand up from her chair. She followed them through the halls quickly and quietly, waiting until she was relatively alone with the guy who'd talk to her—who was taking vitals—to speak again. “So how are things in the ol’ lab?”

“We’re on high alert right now.” He easily caved to her question, sighing. “The new guy pulled some crazy stunt and got himself tased.”

“Ouch. Sounds bad.” Emily did her best to sound apologetic, ignoring the way her stomach rolled and squeezed in panic. “Sorry to put more on your plate, but I’m just so bored.”

“It’s fine. He’s been put back into containment so there’s nothing to worry about.” He shrugged, finishing up his work. He stood, waiting for Emily to follow.

“Good to know.” She mumbled to herself, giving him a blinding smile before following him with anxiety-weighted steps.

Thankfully, they usually put Emily out when they poked around her brain, so the next while for her was black instead of filled with the sort of agony she always imagined for everyone else. They'd been giving her less grace—and Dr. S actually smiled the one time Emily woke up mid-procedure—but it was still enough that the next time she was conscious she was back in her room, strapped with monitoring wires as she usually was.

Even though she was unconscious her body still ached, trying not to groan as she shifted in a vain attempt to try and get a little more comfortable. Shaking her head had her vision swimming, but she ignored it as she reached out for Brennan—feeling it connect sluggishly.

“Zac is in his room.” She said as levelly as she could, trying not to betray how she was feeling. “Tomorrow morning, let’s fuck this place up.”

Roger. Brennan agreed immediately, and after waiting to make sure he had nothing else to say Emily let the connection disappear as she let her head fall back onto the chair with a loud sigh.

Their very vague and cobbled together plan was now in motion.

It's 4:20 am, I got high and like there's a new one piece chapter, so I have to report it.

Dear diary,

The Nami couture shop with Leo gave me life. Otoko deserves the world. Otama deserves the world, she's such a badass. Love how the fight is being reported like on Dressrosa, with an actual sports commentator.
