Learning that Shanks is known as the Killer of Observation Haki (being able to stop others from using their Observation Haki) only aids my headcanon of him being a massive snoop as a kid.

Shanks managing to, not just eavesdrop on Roger, Rayleigh, and other highly skilled Haki users, but to sneak up on them as a child because he was (unknowingly) keeping his presence hidden by shutting off / “killing” their Observation Haki, even in such a slight way.

He is constantly showing up (seemingly) out of nowhere and without detection, like when Luffy was being attacked on Foosha (all civilians, I know, but bear with me), during Marineford, and during Film Red when the Marines are attacking.

This has different ranges--from canceling a person’s ability to use it in order to hide himself and his crew’s presence (explaining why his entire ship was able to take everyone off guard at Marineford and how he suddenly appeared in the middle of the battlefield) to stopping their use of Future Sight and can use his ability to interrupt their breathing.

currently up and thinking about how buggy lore gets more and more painful the longer you think about it. like. i could talk about this stupid clown for AGES. he makes his clown-ness his entire personality but it's so painfully clear he doesn't have a single ounce of joy or whimsy left in his little chop-chop body. he's a full-blown hater!! he gave up on his dreams because he wanted his best friend, who he wholeheartedly believed shone brighter than he ever could, to reach it for the both of them!! he probably hasn't known genuine happiness since he broke up with shanks in the rain!! his beef with luffy escalated tenfold the moment he saw the hat!! he stayed in the east blue for years when he had a whole map and probably knew the way back into the grand line!! he loves flashiness and attention but hasn't ever uttered a word about growing up with the roger pirates or being the childhood friend of one of the four emperors!!! this clown has spent his whole life yearning for something that will never return!!!! he has a big red clown nose!!! every bad thing that has ever happened to him was because he wanted so badly to be loved!!!

Thinking about how Buggy and Shanks parallel Zoro and Luffy but if Luffy dropped his ambitions. The agreement between Zoro and Luffy was that Zoro would follow Luffy, be his first mate, be his swordsman, the first member to join his crew and set sail to achieve Luffy’s dream of being Pirate King IF Luffy never got in the way of Zoro’s dream of being the Strongest Swordsman in the world.

Buggy and Shanks were “apprentices” to Roger (and really more or less they were his sons). They were learning from Roger and learning what being a pirate SHOULD BE. So as apprentices, it would go without saying (at least as far as Buggy is concerned) that that means they need to be the ones to carry Roger’s Legacy. That they should be the ones to get their captain’s treasure and carry out what he wanted for the world. We see it in what Buggy is CURRENTLY doing. That he wants to inspire people to achieve their dreams. Crocodile sees piracy as a business, and Mihawk sees his position as a power pirate as a means to live a peaceful, lazy life where no one would dare bother him. But they don’t have the  ROMANTICISM of a dream anymore. And all those years ago Buggy heard Shanks say he was no longer throwing himself into the romanticism of pirating and adventuring anymore. He’d be a pirate sure, but there was no drive, no DREAM behind it anymore. 

And then he asks Buggy to still be a part of his crew. I can only imagine what that request must have felt like to Buggy. For Shanks to tell him “I won’t be the pirate king you saw me as. I’m not seeking any dream. But come be a part of my mediocracy. Just settle for less, Buggy.”

Now of course, Shanks still went and became a HUGE big name pirate. One that achieved Emperor level. But in that moment? In that moment it felt like Shanks was asking Buggy to give up on his dream, settle for being a pirate simply to be a pirate, and betray what they had learned from Roger.

Luffy was never going to get in the way of Zoro’s dream. Zoro’s desire was Luffy’s desire and vice versa, because as they said themselves in the show- the pirate king shouldn’t have anything less than the best swordsman on his crew. But Buggy’s desire was not Shank’s desire. I’d argue it probably still isn’t! I know Shanks is now making his move for the One Piece, but I honestly don’t know that that is his true objective. I think he thinks his place is to BE THERE when the battle for the One Piece happens. He placed a bet on the new generation and he is going to be there to see that bet come to fruition.

And I think part of that conversation between Shanks and Buggy was how they were each grieving. They had both lost a captain, but also a father.

But Buggy has not given up. His own dream was rekindled this most recent chapter (yes partially because he believes Shanks finally wants to be pirate king too), but partially because he finds himself SURROUNDED by people who know longer believe in the child-like wonder of adventure and treasure and the DREAM of becoming PIRATE KING. I think Buggy HAD also given up down the line. I think we saw a Buggy who’d lost his way at the beginning of the series. I do think Buggy doesn’t have the... best morals... But whether it’s intentional or not Buggy is not who we saw at the beginning of the series and he’s rallying so many people under him, and giving them sanctuary, and honestly? Reaching a king’s status to so many people. 

But honestly? If Luffy suddenly went “You know what? I’m happy with what I’ve got here. I don’t need to be pirate king anymore. We don’t need to get the One Piece.” The Straw Hats would be SO LOST. Sure maybe they wouldn’t all get immediately angry or upset as Buggy had and asked “Well, what DO you want then?” But they are a crew made from the collection of DREAMS. And everyone’s dream is their own dreams. Zoro’s ambition became Luffy’s ambition, but that would never had happened if there was even a small chance that Luffy would be satisfied with anything that fell lower than reaching their dreams.

All this to say I’m proud of Buggy and support him as Leader of Cross Guild LMAO I hope he continues to fail upwards.

I keep thinking about episode 2 and its whole structure revolving around Luffy's straw hat.

Even the title already - The Man In The Straw Hat.

When we saw Nami throw it off, in the beginning of the episode, it was one of the first times Luffy looked angry and serious.

Then Nami says: "Why do you care so much about that old thing anyway? It looks like you fished it out of the trash."

and Luffy explains "One man’s trash is another man’s treasure."

Then throughout the whole episode there's small moments that actually show how important that hat is to Luffy, including being relieved Buggy's pirates didn't take his hat (as they did with Zoro's swords and Nami's bag with navigator things - both incredibly rare and precious possessions of theirs.)

Buggy starts to mess with Luffy because he sees what the hat means to him, because of his connection to Shanks.

and because Buggy wants the map, which Luffy has, well, close by on himself.

"Of course, you could always give me my map if you don’t want to die alone in this tank."

and after Luffy gets free from the water tank and throws up the map, he lands close to his hat,

and even with the map being just beside Luffy, (he could have taken it again), all he could see was his hat.

and only after that, when the hat was safely in his hands, on his head, he could focus on getting the map back and win against Buggy.

it was like he couldn't think about following his dream (to which the map was the only clue to lead him to the Grand Line), until his straw hat was back with him, because his dream is also returning it to Shanks while becoming the King of the Pirates.

Just - Luffy reaching for his hat instead of the map, which the map almost began the whole adventure in episode 1 - it seems so interesting.

He always goes on about his dream to go to the Grand Line, but once his hat isn't on his head, he panics.

Something about that moment tells more about Luffy as a person than even his words about his dream, it shows where his heart is. It's so good.

and,

at the end of this episode,

I love that it goes back to show how Nami fixes and repairs the hat for Luffy, it makes the full circle with that connection between them.

"You fixed it. Thanks."

"Well, you said it was your treasure, right?"

The in universe social media are filled with shuggy shippers (because everyone can see them) and the whole anti tag is just luffy and buggy alt accounts telling each other “exaaactly” after another “it literally makes no sense” “there’s nothing there” post

@giurochedadomani is the one that put me on the idea. But in a world were Rayleigh is Mihawk’s father despite the tragedy I’m sure this would hold (which I probably will talk about when the gods see got to bless me with articulation) it is also comedic gold.

Because Rayleigh is an extremely powerful man he also dresses like a bum and he’s probably where Shanks learned it from and Mihawk will forever resent him for introducing Shanks to sandals.

He’d also probably really hate that Roger, ROGER, has more style than his dad. And he does with that red coat red hat combo. And the fact that when we saw them younger Rayleigh was still dressed like a bum while Roger was rocking a classic black leather jacket blue jeans look. This indignity alone might actually kill him

He’s also probably call him Rayleigh, not dad, not pops, occasionally he’ll call him Father (mostly when he was younger) and there will be a dedicated vein in Rayleigh head that throbs every-time he does this.

Also Rayleigh will look at 43 year old, greatest swordsman in the world Mihawk and call him out on being a brat and it will take everything that Mihawk has plus Shanks begging him, to stop him from running the man through.

But he’d also get seriously offended if anyone implied that they were surprised they were related.

Shanks - he’s so smooth you almost don’t realize what’s happening. There’s a warm hand on your cheek, brown eyes looking into yours. You don’t know when he got so close, but it’s not alarming, and you’re not uncomfortable. He was all jokes and laughs not even a few seconds ago, but now you aren’t even sure you’re still in the bar.

He makes a sound, a word maybe, something almost like a “yeah?” But you don’t really hear the word so much as the intent. Maybe you bite your lip, maybe you lean forward a little or give him a nod, but any motion of affirmation moves him forward. Fingers at the nape of your neck as he pulls you into a kiss that’s tastes sweeter than the rum he’s been drinking. You’re dizzy at the end of it, but maybe it’s a contact buzz, or maybe he really did just steal the air from your lungs and leave nothing but pleasure behind.

Marco - You’ve wanted to kiss those lips for days, if not longer. He’s not leading you on, he’s teasing you, delighting in ruffling your feathers. He likes to see you squirm, and you know those eyes have been watching your gaze shift to his lips every single time.

If you’re not brave enough to make demands, he’ll eventually lure you onto his lap - somewhere quiet and private, if he can test his own patience long enough to get away from the crew. He’ll pull you close slowly, giving you one last chance to decline. The first kiss will be brief, eyes watching you intently, and the slightest lean forward, the smallest gasp, and the following kiss will be heavy. A firm grip will hold you close a devour every moan he demands from you.

Eustass Kid - Subtle is for people afraid to hear the word no, and Kid ain’t afraid of anything. Just as likely to be bantering as he is to be arguing just before hand, the kiss will catch you off guard.

Somehow though, he’ll know that you wanted it. Whether you admit it with words or not, this cheeky bastard never misses the mark. Strong hands will have you pressed against the wall, squirming and squeaking and moaning as hot hungry lips steal air and sense from you.

By the times those painted lips are trailing down to your neck you’re probably already considering the logistics of fucking right where you are. Kid won’t force you to risk an audience, but he’s not wasting a drop of energy worrying about it on his own.

Sir Crocodile - you’re going to be the one to initiate the kiss with him. Probably sat up in his lap, or after you’ve already stripped yourself bare, and are laying underneath him. It’s the final affirmation for him, the last chance you have to deny him. He’s not kissing to test the waters or as a matter of course, he’s been considering you in the long term long before this moment. ( I feel like he’s a no kissing during casual sex kind of person.)

Once your lips are against his, there’s little control you’ll have after. He starts softly, gently, but firmly. More and more they become deeper and hungrier, dragging you under the heavy and inescapable desires of someone who doesn’t let go of what he’s claimed.

And certainly not when it’s wandered into his arms willingly.

Doflamingo - his first kiss is rough, greedy, if there’s acceptance on your part it’s more likely you were tricked into it. His hand will hold your face in place and his tongue will be deep in your mouth before you’ve even realized that you were being kissed.

Whether your sounds are protests or pleasures he’s not going to care. He wanted to kiss you, you were going to accept it. If he wants to use you further, he will. If you’re lucky he’ll have some kind of emotion toward you that isn’t just lust, and he may even decide to show you he can be considerate.

But you won’t find it in that first kiss.
