#penny’s 500 milestone
nanistar · 2 years
Note
Hi sorry I'd this is a weird question, but it's out of genuine curiosity and because in the future I plan to make one too, but are you making any money off of your comic? /Genq (sorry if this is weird to ask LMAO)
nah, not a weird question, i get it. tapas (the website i use to host it) has a few programs that you can be enrolled in to make money off of your work, but it's depends on your subscriber count. right now, i technically make money off of ads, but it's such a minor amount i don't see it actually paying out unless i get thousands of active readers.
Tumblr media
cuz uh. yeah. it's like slivers of pennies. and they don't have any reliable documents about how much you make per ad or anything (or if they do they are NOT easily accessible) There's also a program they have where your supporters can give you "ink" which is their little currency that you can either buy or "earn" through watching ads and stuff on their app. i don't know how that translates to real money though.
Tumblr media
you can paywall your comic at a certain popularity (don't know what that is), but i honestly think that's kinda scummy to do. one of my favorite ones that i was reading paywalled after like 15 episodes so i was hooked but now i can't read it and it bums me out. ): at 500+ subs you can apply to have them make merch of your comic but i guarantee they only pay you pennies for it.
and another milestone i've only heard about is they have a program that pays you for how many views, but idk how much and idk how big that milestone is.
so like, yes technically, i'm making money. but unless you get lucky it's not going to be able to support you. your best bet is going to be posting updates often and reliably, and once you get a small following, maybe make a patreon where you offer advanced pages/wips/ect to folks who are interested.

500 Days
Fuck it tehe, i wrote this in like 20 minutes take it, its word vomit, and uber bad but i dont really care cause its like about to be 1 am and im still not tired, lots of twd referances cause i love that, judge me, be cruel, kinda wanna see how bad it really is, protagonist is unnamed cause im very bad at names.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke from my slumber, like every other person. I checked my digital watch, and it read Wednesday, August 8th, 6:02 AM. The watch didn't say the year, but that was fine, as that information was not yet bygone to me.
Mudi was still asleep next to me, my only friend while the world ended, he's such a good dog.
I rose from the comfort of my mattress and just lurked for a few minutes, eventually I heard Mudi rise too, and he came running for his food which I had already placed into his bowl. Today was day 500, a milestone if you will. I would be lost trying to tell how long it's been with just the watch, so I've been keeping track of money which now holds no value.
One day is one more penny into the tray, after five days the pennies are replaced with one nickel, after 10 days the nickels were replaced with one dime, 25 days and the two dimes and one nickel became a quarter and so on, I replaced the twin two dollar, three quarters, 2 dimes and four pennies with a five dollar bill. It's reminiscent of a collection basket I would witness go down the pew I sat in and when it reached me I would swiftly put in some pennies I dug up from the couch cushions at home.
With a newfound wakeful mind, I collected my things and left out the door, Mudi shortly behind me. The birds greeted me with their songs as I and company went to the nearby river to collect fish, which I loathed. This life may keep me humble, and humble I've become. I used to loathe the taste of seafood, but now I look forward to it, although perhaps that's because of the lack of any other food.
I had a comfortable schedule, in the dawn I fished, not with a fishing rod. No, that's too tedious, I employ a sharpened pool cue, technically a spear. It's my instrument. But I still know not what my symphony is.
Time passed, bucket filled, legs waterlogged. It was time to return home. I’ll bore you not with details, I placed the fish into my makeshift salt box and continued on with my schedule.
Checking on the water collectors on the roof, and they were all fine and untouched, but I needed something to occupy myself with so I left to find something else. I could raid some more of the town, make my ever-growing collection of canned goods grinder, find some new literature, maybe some more clothes, medical supplies would be nice as I've only really found prescription drugs for some pain which I lack.
So with Mudi at my side we go into the small township which is Blackwood. I never knew this place before it all, it's funny how the end of the world caused me to migrate across the country. I always knew this town as devoid of people, just Mudi and I.
We spent the rest of the day going through buildings, collecting anything which could be of use, books, magazines, canned foods, clothes, medicine, alcohol (for when I'm of age of course), vinyls, a little bit of everything really. I finally found a vinyl I've been looking for, “Just the two of us” by Grover Washington. It was my parent's favorite, sadly I lack the necessary materials to play it but It's nice to have.
My day was done as the sun rested, the most important part of the day was upon me, messages to others. I lit the bonfire I constructed on my house's roof, stronger enough so it appears as a small orange glint in the distance from my fellow survivors. And after a few minutes, I saw those five specks appear in the distance.
The paper with Morse code scribbled onto it in my hand I signaled “SAFE” and I received the same message from the five other lights. Why did we not meet up? Perhaps to not disrupt the life we have cultivated with the complication of others? That's why I remain here, at least.
I put out my fire after cooking dinner, charred lake fish, I put out the fire and saw the other specks disappear. Mudi and I ate on the roof of the warehouse now home, gazing into the stars beyond us.
Then a rumble, Mudi bolts down the stairs of the open door into the safety of our home, I look above and there it is, one of those things, I still don't know if they have an official name but I've dubbed them Drifters, they come and go at random intervals, I've grown used to them, well giant hunks of metal floating in the sky will always be an oddity. They do not bother me as much as they used to.
I kind of like watching them now, as they drift into a destination beyond my sight below the horizon. Though I decide to call it a night, it's spaghetti Thursday tomorrow, just need to find some spaghetti.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Ripple CTO (Chief Technology Officer) Jacob Schwartz revealed that his father purchased over a million XRP in 2014 from Justcoin, a crypto exchange. Back then, the token was trading at around $0.005. Schwartz’s post was a response to a question revolving around the lowest amount paid by users to acquire a single token. Since Schwartz’s father purchase about one million tokens at $0.005, the initial investment would have been around $5000. Since 2014, XRP has risen by about 10,120%. Moreover, the million tokens today are worth around $511,000. My father bought over a million XRP in April of 2014 from Justcoin at about a half penny per XRP.— David "JoelKatz" Schwartz (@JoelKatz) October 3, 2023 At its peak in January 2018, the one million tokens would have been worth around $3.4 million. This would translate to a growth of around 67,900%. Schwartz did not reveal if his father made profits at the token’s peak, or if he decided to sell. Given that his son is the CTO at Ripple, there is a chance that the investor decided to hold on. Can you still be a millionaire with XRP? Source: Twitter XRP saw a massive boom after a US court decided that it was not a security in the SEC v. Ripple lawsuit. The partial victory for Ripple was a milestone for the crypto community. Earlier in September, crypto analyst Sharon Throp predicted that the token could go upwards of $500 in the future. According to Throp, the value of cross-border payments might reach $250 trillion by 2027. She also believes that increasing the liquidity of the token could turn it into a seamless cross-border payment currency. If XRP does reach $500, it would translate to a growth of about  97,747.36%. To be a millionaire with the token trading at $500, an investor would need about 2000 tokens. The price of 2000 tokens at current rates is about $1022. At press time, XRP was trading at $0.511, down by 2.4% in the last 24 hours.

Halloween Kiriban! 🎃💀
Hey everyone!! Hope you’ve been doing well! 😆 I just came back from a trip to Las Vegas to live it up with one of my friends who’s getting married soon 🥳🎊 We went to the Hakkasan nightclub and partied with Steve Aoki (the DJ for the night) until 3 am and we saw the Blue Man Group on another night. It was a lot of fun! 😁
Anywho, I actually hit a milestone in followers right before I went on my trip and I meant to write about it sooner, but just didn’t find the time until now. I want to do an activity like we did for my 800 Followers Kiriban and 500 Followers Kiriban!
First things first, a big THANK YOU to all of my followers!!! I’m grateful to everyone I see in my notifications and I hope my blog brightens up your day 🌞 You guys mean the world to me 😊💖
To celebrate this milestone, I’d like to draw a Phantom of the Opera Halloween piece. (Even if you followed me for non-Phantom reasons, you’re still welcome to join!) This is the prompt: Erik, Christine, Raoul, and the Daroga going trick-or-treating. Here’s the fun part: You get to come up with one small detail to include that isn’t gonna be too hard for me to draw and isn’t R-rated/problematic.
For example, these are all acceptable:
“Erik is dressed as the Cryptkeeper”
“Christine is laughing at Raoul”
“Raoul is throwing out the pennies in his basket with a look of annoyance”
“Daroga is using a pillowcase as his candy bag”
etc etc
You only get ONE detail and you must try not to contradict the people who said something before you! Please try to add your detail onto a reblog that has other people’s details, so it doesn’t get split into a ton of short reblogs.
It will probably be a bit confusing at the beginning when everyone’s reblogging it for the first time, so I’ll reblog the thread that has the most details on it and that will become the official thread and I’ll help consolidate any stray details onto that post. I don’t know if I’ve made this more confusing than it needs to be, but I hope you get the point! Please keep your detail fairly short and please don’t add more characters. After a week or so, I’m going to end the detail-collecting and start drawing the picture you’ve all created! ^_^ Now go forth and reblog this with your detail! Feel free to be silly! You may add a photo if you think it helps illustrate your idea better 😜

I’m approaching 666 followers and I wanted to do something to celebrate that number, especially since I didn’t really mark 500 or 600 (I do love you all, I just was crazy busy and didn’t realize I was getting close to 500 - let alone 600 - so I didn’t even thin to look at the numbers).
A couple of questions for you:
1. I was thinking about hosting a challenge but are there a lot of others going on right now?
2. Would y’all be interesting in participating in a challenge?  I’ve got 2 ideas for challenges - one is hell themed because 666 and the other involves gifs.
3. What other kinds of celebrations have you seen and enjoyed?

Best Star Wars Trading Card Sets to Celebrate Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article is part of our Collector’s Digest content series powered by:
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Lucasfilm. To say the corporation that George Lucas founded as a way to realize his artistic vision forever altered popular culture is akin to understating the heat of the sun. Indeed, it is incomprehensible to think of a world without Lucasfilm and the wonders it has given us over the course of the past half century.
What initially began as a way for Lucas to pursue his creativity outside of the auspices of the Hollywood machine is a fascinating story in and of itself – one whose irony is impossible to overlook given how the independent filmmaking ideologies held by the company eventually gave way to the biggest film franchise in history. And that’s not to overlook the significant artistic and technological achievements Lucasfilm unleashed, Ark of the Covenant style, with the Indiana Jones franchise.
Lucasfilm is an embedded part of the mainstream fifty years later. Yet the company has never strayed far from its initial mission statement of creating works that elicit genuine wonder. The fact that Lucasfilm productions often offer profound commentary on the human condition – even when a huge chunk of the characters who populate the Star Wars universe aren’t human – is just another example of the creative alchemy they continue to conjure.
As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite merchandise spawned by the company’s releases, namely Topps trading cards. (Besides, Lucasfilm and its consumer output has an ouroboros-like relationship at this point). Below you’ll find an assortment of trading cards lines that Topps has issued inspired by the various Star Wars films and television shows.
All of these offerings represent not only how Lucas and Lucasfilm deconstructed and rebuilt science fiction into a far-reaching phenomenon but also the simple ways that collectibles are a part of our shared history. Maybe you have fond memories of buying a pack of The Empire Strike Back cards off of your local ice cream truck, or warm reflections about schoolyard discussions about Jabba the Hutt spawned by trading Return of the Jedi trading cards. These memories are a part of why the Star Wars saga is so meaningful to fans the world over, and we have Lucasfilm and Topps to thank for this.  And thankful, we truly are. Here now, is a look at some of Lucasfilm and Topps’ greatest collaborations.
Topps Star Wars Unopened Trading Card Box
Price: $2,000 – $4,000
Impossible though it may seem from a 2021 perspective, there was a time when Star Wars collectibles were downright difficult to find. Kenner’s infamous Early Bird Certificate issued for Christmas of 1977 was essentially an empty cardboard sleeve that promised action figures that didn’t technically exist yet. Other quickly produced merchandise like inflatable lightsabers (which, admittedly are kinda badass), puzzles, and a board game helped temporarily quell the desire for all things related to a galaxy far, far away.
Of the initial products, the one that has endured the longest is Topps’ various trading cards. For a mere 15 cents, would-be Star Warriors could get several cards with full color images from the film, a dazzling sticker – you’d feel like royalty if you’d score a Darth Vader one – and a stick of gum. These were inexpensive, highly collectible, and super cool. Not only did they help introduce a generation to trading cards, but the five different colored lines that make up the series remain some of the most desired Star Wars collectibles ever. Which is why an unopened box of these cards will set you back a pretty penny. The bragging rights owning one will give you though? Priceless.

The Empire Strikes Back Series 3 Unopened Pack
Price: $5 – $30
When it came time for Topps to release card sets for The Empire Strikes Back, the company ramped up the excitement in a manner befitting the source material. There were three separate sets released for the sequel, with the 88-card set in the third series being arguably the most exciting. Why? The third series offered everything from comic styled depictions of characters like Boba Fett and “Probot” to jaw-dropping art from visionary Ralph McQuarrie to deliciously melodramatic captions like “Threepio in a Jam!” and “Dodging Deadly Laserblasts!” Recreating the action of the film on a trading card feels like an impossible task, one Topps was somehow able to achieve.

The Empire Strikes Back Full Color Giant Photocards Unopened Pack
Price: $5.99 to $14.99
Back in 1980, Topps pulled off the impressive feat of selling a single Star Wars card for 20 cents. Yes, they really had some cojones to attempt to pull off such a stunt, but this move was about way more than milking the Star Wars cash cow. Each of these 30 “Giant Photocards” from The Empire Strikes Back was a behemoth suitable for locker display and/or framing. Unfortunately, consumers weren’t buying the whole less-is-more thing, and the line evaporated quicker than Luke’s snowy vision of Ben Kenobi.

Return of the Jedi Trading Cards Unopened Box
Price: $300 – $500
Let’s be honest, Return of the Jedi was a bittersweet affair. It marked the end of the original Star Wars trilogy, and some viewers found it to be a disappointing wrap up. Add to that the uncertainty of when we would see these characters again, and you’ve got a recipe for some complicated feelings. Not that you’d know any of this galactic ennui from the movie’s merchandise, which paints it as a fun-packed — if somewhat underwritten — conclusion to the Skywalker story. (What little we knew back in 1983, huh?)
The corresponding card line from Topps tended to focus on the film’s biggest moments. In the process, it presented a clear image of what Return of the Jedi truly was: inspired pop entertainment for a galaxy of moviegoers.

Star Wars 3Di Widevision Card Set
Price: $50 – $75
Topps is consistently at the forefront of trading card technology, and this is exemplified by their 1996 3Di Widevision Card set. Building on the Widevision style they premiered the previous year, these cards featured images from Star Wars that replicated their original aspect ratio. More than that though, each entry in the series recounted the film’s story through lenticular images that seemed to pop off of the card. More than a mere novelty, this felt like the evolution of trading cards.

1993 Star Wars Galaxy Unopened Box
Price: $80 – $100
After what seemed to be an eternity but was actually just about a decade, Star Wars started to roar back to life in the early 1990s due to Expanded Universe material like Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn novels and Topps’ Star Wars Galaxy card lines. Enlisting the aid of a diverse array of artists that included Mad Magazine’s Sergio Aragones and poster art legend Drew Struzan, this set – punctuated by rare foil etched chase cards – expanded the parameters of the Star Wars universe in richly inventive ways.
Ever wonder what Chewie did in his off hours? Or how various artists interpreted the Droids? This line answered those questions, and many more. The Galaxy line was such a success that it spawned several sequel lines as well as a 2018 reboot. As amazing as these subsequent lines have been, they don’t have the sheer magic of the 1993 original, which reminded us of how the possibilities of Star Wars were as infinite as the universe itself.

The Star Wars saga is rich with repeating motifs and characters whose paths echo in unexpected and exciting ways. The Force may not always be in balance, but Star Wars merchandising is!

The Mandalorian eBay Exclusive Topps Card Set
Price: $50 – $85
If you’ll allow us to get meta for a moment, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention this release from The Mandalorian that was available last year as an eBay exclusive. Topps gave this 10-card set a retro feel by utilizing a Mars Attacks-esque font and gorgeous retro art that really drives the whole galaxy far, far away point home.

Know anyone? 👀.... I was a nillionaire over a decade ago. Lived 5 years broke AF (not poor, BROKE because I spent every paycheque, didn’t save a penny from working as a teen or even during school), and had $500 in the bank + $60K student debt to show for it. Then I had a revelation and my mindset changed completely. It was revolutionary to discover personal finance, budgeting, tracking my money, and I was looking forward to becoming debt-free and having a proud zero net worth. $0 net worth was my goal, and one of the biggest milestones I ever achieved in my life, two years after I graduated. I credit it all to a mindset shift, and then basic b*tch budgeting and tracking my spending because it kept me accountable. Now? My next goal is $1M in liquid net worth meaning what’s in my bank and investing accounts — not including my home of which my half is $400K & I had paid it in 💰cash. End of 2021, I’m aiming for $750K in my portfolio. I’m at $680K as of the end of February, so $70K to go. #savespendsplurgemoney #ilooklikeaninvestor #personalfinancetips #personalfinance #personalfinancecoach #personalfinancegoals #financialliteracy #financialgrowth #financialgoals #financialfreedom #financialindependence #debtfreejourney #debtfreecommunity #debtfreeliving #debtfreedom #debtfreecommunitycanada #wealthgoals #wealthcreation #buildingwealth #makeyourmoneyworkforyou #investingwomen #millennialinvestor #moneygoals #womenwithmoney #businessowner #entrepreneur #entrepreneurial #streamsofincome #sideincomehustles #businesstips https://www.instagram.com/p/CNBeglinVub/?igshid=xxy9nulfx6ks
