Percabeth for valentines day because they own my heart !! 🔱🦉🏛️🫶

So the new PJO show has reignited my middle school obsession with the riordanverse (my tlt-pj-musical brainrot has also made a swift comeback 🫡) and I’ve been hyperfixating on it for the last couple months (WOOHOOO SEASON 2 WAS GREENLIT 🎉🎉🎉). I’ll ramble more about how much this show means to me and just how amazing it is to see these beloved characters come to life on screen in a future post, so expect more pj fanart soon. Also what even is valentines day, I only know of Percabeth day 🙈🙈

Percy telling Zeus that his family is a mess and that he's no different than his father, because his father ruled by fear and so is doing Zeus was so fucking well written. Kronos got betrayed by his own children, and Zeus got betrayed by his son, because there is no trust in that family: "we betray, we backstab, we will push anyone down a flight of stairs to get ahead" said Ares, and it's the truth. the moment someone has the guts to say it out loud, the moment Percy thinks "stop right here, you can't just act like it's nothing, because it really isn't nothing", the king's first reaction is trying to kill him.

And in the books, Percy doesn't do anything like this, or at least not at this extent and not so soon, but the Percy/hatred-for-the-gods slowburn is really not slow in this show.

he met Ares, a god who at the idea of his family fighting laughed and thought of it as something good, funny, someone who loves the mess they are. then he met Hermes, a god who wants so bad to be a decent father but can't, because he's still trapped by his nature. then Hades, who is said to be the cruelest of them, but who didn't even for a second underestimate the danger that Kronos rising represents- and then Zeus, the king, the ruler, the most powerful, who shrugged it off like another daily boredom, like a fight that wouldn't have been able to destroy them all, who is ready to sacrifice everything- to sacrifice the demigods, because for him they're just little soldier to move against one another- because he is just unable to admit his own weakness, who is ready to sacrifice everything-

(which is always an interesting thing since the whole point of these human-like greek gods as the greek thought them is that they have weaknesses. they aren't invincible. mortals can beat them, they can beat each other, they can lose. but Zeus doesn't seem to remember it, after so many years of uncontrolled power.)

Percy sees that just like he saw through the whole "gods are complicated" bullshit they fed Annabeth to keep her quiet and obedient AND HE DOESN'T STAY QUIET BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT'S BULLSHIT! he gets fucking angry at Zeus for being so stupid and blind and used all the feelings he'd been building up since the Chimera disaster to spit on Zeus's (Zeus) face what he thinks of the mess they are. because there's no one ready to do that, and there's probably nothing scarier than a king who cannot be criticised.

so yes. the whole scene- just perfect. a millionth times better than the book's one.

Annabeth getting cold feet the day before her wedding to Percy and going to Grover for help (“I’m afraid he’ll end up resenting me for all that’s happened and that he’ll leave like everyone else has”) and Grover being like “ he’s been in love with you sense he was 13 years old. He was in love with you even when he didn’t know his own name. He was in love with you when he was walking through literal hell, just so you wouldn’t have to walk alone. His loves only gotten stronger over the years. He WON’T leave you because he’s not Luke or your Dad or your Mom. He would reather DOE then hurt you or see you be hurt, hell I’m pretty sure that he would (successfully) take down gods, titans, preimmortals if they even THOUGHT about hurting you. I want to tear my hair out every time I see posts tearing down Percabeth, cathegorizing it as a horrible toxic relationship, the worst thing to ever happen to Percy, that he has more chemistry with any other character. That in The Heroes of Olympus series, Percy no longer has a personality apart from Annabeth, etc, etc. Like... I don't know what kind of books these people have read. Rather ironic since these people say that Percabeth fans are inventing things to make this relationship more powerful, or making Annabeth a character that she absolutely is not in reality... I rather have the impression that it's them who invent things or there is a profound misunderstanding of the text. Also, I have the impression that they take our jokes and a little exaggerated comments in a literal sense. Like when it's said that Percy gave up immortality for Annabeth. Yes. We know that it wasn't just for her, but also for all of her friends and family, but it's undeniable that Annabeth was a deciding factor in his decision. Or when we make the joke that Percy ruined the car in episode 6 because he looked at Annabeth too long. THANKS. We know that it's mainly because he is 12 years old. But the fact is that the series reinforces Percabeth more and yes, when Percy screwed up, he looked at Annabeth (and not Annabeth and Grover together) a little too long instead of at the road and what was around him. Basically it's a little bit of everything. Obviously. But that's the point of being a fan of a ship. Everyone has a tendency to extrapolate the slightest thing for the sake of it. That doesn't mean we can't see things objectively. (No because when I see these same people ship Percy & Nico at first degree, saying that Nico likes Percy more than Annabeth because he tried to remove his Achilles heel and that they should be canon. Also that Annabeth would have chosen Luke if he had survived and Percy was just a rebound...)
