hot take maybe, but I only truely like prideshipping if it’s heavily unrequited and obsessive on Seto’s end, because of two reasons.

Reason #1. the fact that ignoring romance it’s basically freaking canon. The spirit beat kaiba in a duel and made him experience death by being killed by his favorite game than doesn’t give him a second thought until Mokuba and DeathT( early manga) But kaiba is fixated on this experience for, seemingly months. Obsessed with the only person who’s ever won against him and designing new technology and an entire amusement park attraction in order to kill him. He’s putting innocent bystanders and his own brother in danger in order to humiliate and destroy his seemingly only equal. Than he loses.

in duel monsters Kaiba creates a tournament and enters Yuugi as a top level duelist and monitors his every movement throughout the tournament. As the spirit is losing hope for winning against Slifer and Marik, Kaiba shows up just to tell him that only he’s allowed to win against the pharaoh, and afterwards he straight up tells him that the only thing he wants to do in that moment is duel him. In the finals Kaiba demands that Yuugi put Slifer in his deck in order to have the ultimate battle that he’s deemed worthy against his greatest rival because anything less wouldn’t be worthy of the title of the king of games. The title he never wins

in Dsod Kaiba builds an advanced AI based off Atems personality and strategies but ultimately hates it because it’s not really him. Kaiba collects almost all of the pieces of the millennium Puzzle and builds a ELEVATOR into SPACE( probably costing millions of dollars to build) in order to rebuild the puzzle because he believes that it will bring back Atem. He announces Another tournament in order to get the last missing pieces of the puzzle because he’s desperate for closure against him and Atem. After the puzzle is destroyed he literally breaks the laws of REALITY in order to go to the after life for his closure duel. And it’s left unknown if he ever won against the man who made Kaiba strive to be a better duelist, create new advanced inventions and technology that ultimately make the world a better place all because of Kaiba’s unhealthy relationship with winning and losing.

Ever wondered why Yami marik has such ridiculous hair?

Now I bring you one of the possible answers (sponsored by my brain). His design is made to look like the pharaohs,I mean he just has few extra spikes but he's pretty on point(+ the eye thing on his forehead,which Atem also had/can have,the cape that Atem has in past life and his magical jacket that flows, the chain on his cape≈the chain of the millennium puzzle)

I find that pretty interesting as his whole character is pretty much "MUST K I L L P H A R A O H and death and suffering"

Also it's a cool "Easter egg" if you could call it that.

I never personally liked Yami Yugi. I don’t hate him and if someone where to go off on some ridiculous tangent about how bad a character he is, I would defend him, because he IS a good character. I just never really cared for how much he stepped in for others.

Yet, one thing about him will never leave me alone.

Imagine when he first woke up in his own body season 5. He has been nothing but a spirit for 3000 years and more recently, he’s shared a body with a Japanese high schooler.

I picture him staring at himself and not seeing himself, but a stranger. His body may be his technically, but he’s come to know and accept Yugi’s body as a part of him too. They both have, I think.

Can you imagine him seeing the slight details of his skin and just thinking “that shouldn’t be there” or his dark fingers going over the wrinkles over his eyelids and thinking “this isn’t me. My eyes aren’t supposed to look like this.”

But they do, because he isn’t Yugi. He’s Atem.

I may not like Yami Yugi, but I can understand that he must’ve felt so empty and cold in season 5. It was only him in a body he doesn’t know. And for that, I will always say he is an amazing character.

(I could’ve just done with a little less spotlight stealing, even for a protagonist.)

Yuga Ohdo: he's so small. like sure he's eleven and eleven year olds do really be tiny but even compared to all his friends (mostly also eleven) he's just. pint-sized. pipsqueak. fun-sized. all he cares about is his roads (inventions - cause he may be eleven but he's also an engineering genius) and making sure people have fun (mainly through duels). he's such a sweet wee kid i'd die for him i'd kill for him i'd blow up a government building for him <-- something he's basically almost done by the way in case that helps. he also time travelled twice and was turned into a card and a cat in case that helps (this is related to the time travelling)

Yugi Moto: sooooo short he's just a little birthday boyyyy. usually drawn as about half the size of everyone around him. constantly punted & picked up like a sack of potatoes bc he is SO fucking little

Pharoah Atem: ok i KNOW you're all gonna be like "idk when i saw the anime as a kid he was pretty tall compared to yugi" but that is a LIE! he is canonically 5ft aka the exact same size as yugi aka absolutely tiny. a running gag in the manga is to have only the spikes of his hair in frame with all of his tall ass friends. he's fucking tiny

yugi is almost the spitting mental image of who i am now; trans allegory, goth, consistently talking with a more emo side of his personality who has terrible memory loss and is actually over 3000 years old and has unforseen knowledge of the past, unreasonably short, etc.
