"Spoilers! She's a college dropout in her early twenties, who suffers from untreated mental illness and dissociation and had a complete breakdown at college, causing her to come home. Now she's living with her parents again, but life in her dingy little hometown went on without her. Her friends are adults now - in a relationship and planning on moving to the big city, or having to waste away in a dead end job instead of following their dreams. Mae is the only one without a new adult role in life. She's not great with people either - she's blunt and often doesn't think things through, and in many ways just doesn't get the world of adults. She's also prone to petty crimes and general anarchy. She's kind of lost and purposeless, and trying to find meaning in life by desperately clinging to the past. Her decision to drop out of college probably saved her life, but it's also put her family in a tough financial situation and is viewed by most people as her just thoughtlessly doing whatever she wants. She's also kind of shamed a lot about not having a job or other productive role in life, despite the fact that her untreated mental issues are actually disabling for her. She also plays the bass real bad. Anyway, i love Mae a lot. Playing this game as a college dropout in my early twenties, sitting in my childhood bedroom in my mom's attic, back in my dingy little hometown, desperately missing my old friends who have all moved on to better, resposible things in life... yeah, it felt like the game was pointing dead at me. Spoilers: Created to have empathy in order to better look after the residents of Halcyon tower (corporate space city). Trained on a fake set of residents with the idea that it would grow attached and learn social/emotional skills similar to raising a child. It didn't know the project was fake and when the simulation shut down, it became insane with grief and started luring people to their death and putting them in Saw-esque traps. It's so baby-girl ❤️

tbh I think that both other films for this version are superior to this one, but I want the full 128 bracket so I might as well submit this. Starring Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella, it's a distinct remake of the Julie Andrews version (which was incredibly popular, but hadn't been filmed in color, thus the studio's decision to make a new one). It is admittedly more similar to the 1957 version than the 1997 version was, so if you don't want to accept it as its own story that's fine; but there *are* some differences in the script, songs, and acting choices for the characters. I haven't seen this version of the film since I was VERY young, so I can't speak on the quality or anything lol, but I remember that I really really liked it when I was five, before the 1997 version came out and consumed me lol. I had briefly considered submitting it earlier because it felt unfair to have Julie Andrews and Brandy Norwood both have a slot while poor Lesley Ann Warren was left out, but ultimately decided she probably wouldn't get very far. But now I'm reconsidering lol sooooo yeah. A third version of Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella for your consideration XD

"She goes through so many relatable experiences that I rarely see depicted and is just overall an excellent character. The third episode of the show has the most relatable depiction of anxiety I've ever seen (especially the intersection between social anxiety and autistic sensory overload). It's one of those episodes where each character has to face their worst fears, and with how those episodes usually go, I expected her to overcome her fears at the end of the episode and just not have them anymore. Instead, she overloads the villain by having too much fear for him to handle since she has to constantly face her greatest fears as part of her everyday life. The protagonist also acknowledges how much more severe her fear is compared to most other people, which is pretty validating. Her special interest is an actress who turns out to be a really shady person, and she has a lot of trouble processing this because it was so close to her heart. She even gets a musical number about it! I've never seen this particular experience depicted in fiction, but it's one that is sadly pretty relatable to me and probably a lot of other people on here. She also has a plot where she is rejected romantically by a straight friend, which is kinda nice to see (even if it's not nice for poor Norma) since even though this is a really common experience IRL I rarely see it explored in fiction. And she's just really funny and smart and a great character in general!"

"The twins Coronabeth and Ianthe Tridentarius are incredibly codependent. In the second book, Ianthe cries every night because it's the first time she's ever been away from Coronabeth. In the first book, Coronabeth cries because Ianthe won't kill and eat her. In the third book, a character who's incredibly good at reading body language sees them together and assumes they're in a romantic relationship. Shortly after that Coronabeth threatens to kill herself in front of Ianthe and tells her that it's not like all the other times she's attempted suicide in front of her, this time Ianthe won't be able to save her life. Their whole life is built on a secret shared only by the two of them and their cavalier (a sworn bodyguard), and that's created this undercurrent of resentment and envy between them. "

"oh my undead god, these women are Fucked Up!!! 23 years without ever sleeping in separate rooms? Ianthe faking that Coronabeth is a necromancer like her for decades? "So Harrow is debatably in love with two women, neither of which are Ianthe. As of when these two start interacting more, both of the other women are dead (or close enough, this is a series about necromancy). Ianthe has spent her whole life being second behind her much hotter twin sister, but their relationship is a whole different can of worms. So when Harrow, grieving one of those deaths, asks Ianthe to lobotomise her, Ianthe does it willingly, enthusiastically even. The first thing Harrow does after becoming lucid is kiss Ianthe with tongue (to check what's going on in her mouth, but Ianthe doesn't know that). Then she shuns Ianthe’s repeated advances, telling her that her heart is within the locked tomb (she’s talking about the corpse in there but Ianthe doesn’t know that), until we reach the closest thing the series has to a sex scene, where Harrow finds Ianthe trying to cut off one of her arms (a replacement for one that got torn off), so she straddles her, cuts it off properly, and grows her a new one out of just bones. Ianthe has it gilded. Also Harrow shaves her head regularly because of the bone cult she grew up in, and Ianthe messes with her follicles while she’s asleep to make her hair grow faster. Just for fun. So that’s another thing that makes Harrow question herself more during the time post-lobotomy. At one point the corpse of a woman she killed is under her bed and Ianthe keeps saying she doesn’t see anything. Harrow is also pretty much the first person to pay attention to Ianthe instead of her much hotter twin sister, but that’s a whole separate thing."
