Wow. 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles' really hits different for me now, when Del (John Candy) says "I haven't been home in eight years." Though he is surviving life on the road, making the best of things as he can, the fact is, he's homeless.
Fact is, too, that you can never tell by looking at someone or even spending time in their company, the lonely burden they may labor under.
