L = Love Confession: How would they confess to their s/o?

Ariana: I believe she can be more self conscious about how she comes across to others than she lets off, so I believe she would try to read the situations they're in and see if it's appropriate and the mood is right. It would take her a while before admitting her feelings because she'd want to make sure she actually feels a certain way for someone and would be willing to be in a committed relationship with them, and also because she doesn't want to get rejected by someone she would quickly be dismissive about because she didn't know that she'd fully like and accept them anyway. If she feels like she could get away with admitting her feelings flirtily I'm sure she would, because in her mind it seems like a more relaxed approach than walking up to them or looking flustered or saying something "dumb" in front of someone who could quickly become an "enemy" for lack of better term from undermining her or using her to up their position in some way.

Archer: I think that Archer would have similar feelings as Ariana, but with less fear of the "consequences" of rejection and more fear of what to do with his feelings of rejection. When he does admit his feelings he would either take the approach of waiting for the time to be "right" (Outside of work hours obviously and also most likely not in an extremely flirtatious way like Ariana.) and shows up to their residence suddenly or to a planned meet up with flowers. Either way I think that besides often making eye contact and chatting or watching over them or eating lunch near them (Silently sometimes because he's not sure of what to say and decides to say nothing at all.), he would still come off a bit sudden at first to not be harassing at work and to get his feelings in order before deciding to confess.

Petrel: I honestly believe thay Petrel can be a bit flirty, but he never really gets close to anyone or proceeds into a lot of relationship type behaviours often because he knows he's not committed enough and isn't going to pretend to be a "hot shot" who keeps people waiting and wondering or weaves in and out of relationships status like a greasy frat boy. When he does really like someone though I think it hits him like a ton of bricks in the sense that although he smiles at them and greets them, but he gets flustered easily and overthinks responses while he is already engaging and giving a response. It's funny to think that he's just self aware enough to know that he may actually like someone. His grooming habits and amount-of-cologne-to-proximity-of-person-he-likes ratio defidently picks up and he tries to stop by and talk to them as much as possible, even if it's just small talk. He tries to be funny but it may not always work, so he's left to look like he's acting laid back but is cursing at himself on the inside. I think that because he knows that he thinks he feels a certain way for someone and doesn't want to be that "guy who became a close friend but actually wants to canoodle with you and was waiting for your "permission" supposedly" person, he doesn't want you to start confiding in him until you know that he likes you romantically so you don't feel disappointed or confused later about why he listens and spends time with you. He may admit it suddenly during a late night friendly hangout to make sure you know his feelings and position, or by coming up to you with flowers or during a quiet night on the balcony. I don't know if you'd call them all romantic exactly but at least he's honest.

Proton: One could almost say it's like he's testing the waters of thoughts of liking anyone in general to the point of dating, or, not unlike a cat sniffing a piece of cheese to see if there's a pill inside. At first he seems a bit weird or very dissimive of someone he thinks he likes, to the point where he's in their peripheral looking at them often while doing things (With those laser eyes that make you think you did something wrong, are about to get scolded, or just generally makes you self conscious (Do I have a boogie, a zit, or messy hair?)) or his gaze doesn't hold for long when speaking or giving instructions (If he likes someone he works with.). Knowing how precise, analytical, and collected he is though, it's hard to tell that he's avoiding making eye contact because he often shifts his gaze to documents or something around him and back which may look mysterious and almost cunning, but is actually him being flustered and feeling unsure. He tends to come across weird in other ways like you're about to be scolded or shood away, or the way he seems to pop up without a sound out of nowhere (Tries to "act cool" but is accidently ghost walking into a room.) or help complete tasks whether work or personal without much verbalizations outside of relevant questions, and long stares (Wit them lasers again. 🙈) before suddenly departing. It's mostly a lot of odd feeling alone time, even if that alone time is just being the only people in a room at the moment at work. He'll try to make small talk better as time goes on, but for a little while it's curt answers from him and sudden questions about your interests and day that sound like interrogations towards you. When he does feel like he's ready to confess, he'll probably end up settling on going to a museum or having a picnic somewhere secluded and admitting his feelings by the end of the day by taking your hands in his and saying "I like you" or leaning back on the picnic blanket and saying the same phrase. It will probably be the first time he's looked deep into your eyes without you thinking you had a boogie. 💖

Call him boring, but Cyrus mainly sticks to the Missionary position unless you're able to convince him to try others. Just a thought but. I think all the rocket execs + giovanni would be scary as hell, but petrel specifically since he’s known for disguising himself as other people. Stalker 100%

I went off on a tangent ack—

Indeed they all are, and for good reason too. I always felt like out of all the antagonist organizations, Team Rocket just has the most scary upper rank members.

Giovanni is terrifying on his own without any explanation at all. We just know he's extremely scary. There are so many examples of why and then there's the fact that he was also a Gym Leader while doing all the devious things as leader of Team Rocket. He'd make a frightening yandere, but only if his darling complies and behaves.

Proton is so sadistic, even in game with the whole Slowpoke Well stuff going about. He's even considered the cruelest one in Team Rocket! He also gets angry easily so... That's not a good combo... This man is just loving every second of someone else's misery. I would feel bad for anyone who manages to snag his attention as a yandere.

Ariana; embodiment of Girlboss Gaslight Gatekeep— but for real, she called herself a sort of stand in for Giovanni even though Archer was basically the leader at the time. Ma'am literally calls you baby while stating you're in for a thrashing. She'd be the type of yandere that would mock sympathy her darling as they're trying to escape or are yelling for her to let them go.

Archer... Is a very interesting one. If Ariana is Girlboss Gaslight Gatekeep then Archer is Manipulate Mansplain Malewife— Anyways, I feel like he'd be a bit of a delusional/devoted yandere, but he's also scary in the sense that he has moments where he's aware of his actions. Especially when his darling brings to light what he's done. No remorse for his actions and he has ways to keeping his darling from leaving. Also, just because he's devoted doesn't mean he'll let himself be coaxed into anything his darling wants. No, he's smarter than that.

Ah, yes, my favorite of the bunch Petrel would indeed be scary to deal with. Have you seen how accurate his disguises are??? To the point where I feel like he can mimic voices! You'll never know where he is and it would be even more horror inducing if his darling were to ever escape from him! Who could they trust if this man can potentially be anyone they run into? Trust issues and paranoia obtained. He would use his talent to his advantage. And of course, he would be a stalker, completely agree. I mean, how else would he figure out who you hang out with so he'd lure you to his trap?

In conclusion, Team Rocket is scary and there is no hope for anyone who becomes a darling to anyone of these people.

But all the greats gracing this book are sure to trigger nostalgic memories of care-free Saturday mornings or after-school hours with family and friends in front of the TV set.

WARNING: There are some spoilers in this review (they don't mention the ranking of the shows I'll mention, just the shows themselves). The cover of the book already spoils things in this regard, but just in case you want to read this yourselves, you may want to skip reading this review until then! :D

Reader Review: Okay, so at this point, I'm literally going to start making a new tag/sub-series of reviews called "judging a book by its cover", because yet again, that's what I did. Heck, I'll even go back to my old reviews and tag them as such I went back to my old reviews and tagged them as such. Working at a library is a blessing and a curse in this regard... Anyway, my allure to this book's cover came from Teen Titans' Beast Boy being smack-dab on it. And with my undying love for the original Teen Titans series, I was instantly curious as to what ranking he'd been awarded (THAT, I will spoil; it'll be in the tags). And I've always had a love of both cartoon history and countdown lists, so this book was right up my alley anyway. 

Now, as much as the internet likes to make fun of WatchMojo on Youtube ("Top Ten Anime Betrayals" memes, anyone?), you have to admit that you yourself have watched at least one of their countdown lists, or a countdown list from someone else (ScreenRant, Looper, etc). There's something inherently interesting about putting things, specifically things we see in pop culture, in a ranked order, and the possibilities of the subjects of these lists are limitless so there's something for everyone. That being said, it drives me crazy when people get so mad or defensive about the entry order of a top 10/ top whatever number list, whether it's "How could THIS be #1???", "How could this NOT be #1???", "What about ___???", you get it. So going into reading this list of the top 100 cartoon characters in all of cartoon history, you really have to understand that these are the, albeit well-thought-out and industry-knowledgeable, OPINIONS of two people. This is not the Mayan calendar, the end-all be-all of lists. If anything, it prompts a dialogue, inviting you to hop on discussion train and talk about cartoons yourself. 

Both Marty Gitlin, a pop culture author, and Joe Wos, a cartoon illustrator, have both the professional and personal insight of the vast history of cartoons. What is very apparent, though, is that these two have come together for more of their personal love of cartoons than anything else. This didn't bother me personally, because no matter how unbiased a ranking list claims to be, there's always a little bit of bias. The two authors try to base their rankings in fact more than personal preference, and for the most part they do stay unbiased, in both obvious and non-obvious ways (for example: there is one Disney character that ranks decently higher on the list than another Disney character, which was backed by reasonings both personal and professional by the authors, since the initial reaction from anyone would probably be "...Wait, really?"). Their choices do a great job in ranging from the dawn of cartoon history with "Crusader Rabbit" and "Astro Boy" to much more recent cartoons like Archer from "Archer", Tina from "Bob's Burgers" and Korra from "The Legend of Korra", all with the same logic applied to each for why they deserved to be recognized in this book, and not necessarily why they deserve spot number whatever (although they do emphasize the rankings DO matter, but it didn't really matter a whole lot outside of the top 20). I genuinely enjoyed learning about cartoons I wasn't too familiar with, getting little blurbs and fun facts out of it, and just generally getting into the heads of Gitlin and Wos. It's clear they did their research and really applied a lot of thought to this list. After all, it's hard with ALL the cartoons characters that have existed since the early 1900s to simply pick 100. Some liberties are taken for duos, like Sylvester and Tweety and Cosmo and Wanda, but it makes sense because some exist as foils of the other to play off of each other, and their partnership is what made them stand out individually in the first place. In that regard, it's more like a top 125-ish list, but again, the authors take care in making the reasonings make sense. Plus there's a foreword from SpongeBob voice and overall voice-acting marvel Tom Kenny, which is a nice treat that whets our appetite for what this book will unveil.

That being said, this book is very much a first draft that should have had some more time to be edited before release. It's enough sometimes to be overlooked; in the beginning of each new ranking, there's a bio for each character (Created by:____ Debuted in: ___ Voiced by: ____), but rather than a new blurb starting on a new line, there are sometimes two blurbs that exist on the same line. Again, not the worst thing ever. But then there are some that are just impossible to let go; there's literally a ranking (within the ranking) of Pinky and the Brain's most ridiculous "Take over the world" schemes, and there's randomly a line about Racer X of "Speed Racer" fame that is clearly not supposed to be in this ranking, let alone in this ranking's ranking. Consistency is also an issue. For a book about cartoons, there's a big lack of them in this book. Every ranked character, I assumed, would have its own picture to visually show the reader who the character is in a "show, don't tell" kind of way, but that was very much not the case for a large amount of characters. The most logical answer to this could've been that there were copyright issues where the authors couldn't obtain permission to use their images, but several Disney characters appear visually in the book, despite Disney being notoriously stingy about sharing their characters in mediums they don't helm themselves. And where we get a cartoon character visually for #1-45, we don't get any pictures at all for a straight 15 rankings afterwards. For a ranked list about a visual medium, I would've loved to have seen who they were talking about, instead of Google image searching who certain characters were (like I had no idea who Beany and Cecil were before this book, and had to provide my own visual representation). It's just an odd choice for a cartoon book to exclude... cartoons. Though what's more odd are some images they did include. There are a couple of weird choices of photos, like the French TV poster for "Pokemon" that says "Le Film" under a screenshot of Pikachu, and the tiniest picture ever of "Crusader Mouse" obscured by the title sequence. Again, Googling these characters myself showed me better results than the book did. 

Finally and most importantly, character information is straight-up wrong. I know I said they do their research-- and they do-- and the authors are obviously not expected to know everything about every character offhand, but where they get tiny details and industry notes spot-on, they get the absolute simplest character information so unusually incorrect. There are two notable examples in my copy of the book. The first one is in Fat Albert's entry, where it states "Cosby Kid Tito is killed by a stray bullet intended for his older brother, who had joined a gang" (Uh... Fat Albert spoilers?). But it's actually Tito's younger brother Fernando who is shot and killed because the older brother who joins a gang is "Cosby Kid Tito". I know the piece is about Fat Albert the character and not Tito, but why bring this up if you don't even use the correct character to mention how progressive the show was to justify Fat Albert's place on the list? The second one is for the Powerpuff Girls regarding Blossom's physical description. It reads: "Blossom boasted light brown hair with a large blow and featured a short cape tied behind her pink dress and black belt." UMMMMMMM. I was so absolutely confused by this one line I had to look up various shots of her character model in case I somehow forgot that she had a cape, and to clarify, she absolutely does not have a cape (unless for specific episodes where's she dressing up outside of her normal attire). Did the authors think her hair was a cape? Did they mistake one episode where she wore a cape for the entirety of the series where she doesn't wear one? NO CAPES (CHECK OUT INCREDIBLES 2 IN THEATRES JUNE 15TH). Also... light brown hair? What adds insult to injury, besides the well-established fact that she has RED hair, is that this character description is written RIGHT NEXT TO A PICTURE OF THE POWERPUFF GIRLS TO PROVE THAT THAT IS NOT TRUE. Honestly, I'll give leniency where it's due for taking on the task of ranking and going in-depth on the origins and noteworthy points of a character, but no one prompted them to make this list. If you're going to talk in-depth about a character, fact-checking is your best friend. This is simple research, or simple picture-looking.

Overall, it's a fun book that helps you brush up on your cartoon history and send you into a state of nostalgia. I do wish there were more than the ten or so characters from Japan, Canada or the UK that appear on this list, but again, it's a book written in America that tends to look at the influence of said cartoons in American history, and asking someone to examine every cartoon character in the WORLD is a daunting, if not impossible task. I do also disagree with the fact that the list starts with #1 and descends from there. I find it more fun to build up to that #1 spot, because who really wants to read who #100 is when you know who #1 is already? I actually read this book backwards because of this, and found it much more satisfying to see the #1 spot by the "end". But I don't think there will be any dispute with who the top 30 or so cartoons are, but even if there are, that's the fun of ranked lists like this: if you disagree, just make your own list! It's all in good cartoon fun.

Prompt: Clint changes all of the names in your phone, and you’re in for a shock when you try to call Natasha

From the day you met Bucky, he ignored you. He only spoke to you when absolutely necessary. In the six months since he’s been in the tower, he has probably said less than ten words to you. Needless to say, you were a bit offended by how standoffish he was towards you. He seemed to gradually open up to everyone else except for you-and Tony, but that was reasonable. What killed you the most was that you had started to develop a crush on the former assassin and he seemed to think of you as nothing more than dirt under his shoes.

You were trained in the Red Room like Natasha and, therefore, no one knew about your crush on him-except for the Black Widow and Wanda. They were your best friends in the tower and you three shared everything from secrets to food to clothing.

Most of the time it was unnoticed when Bucky avoided you by everyone except for you and Steve. Steve and Sam were the only two who knew why Bucky acted the way he did. He was scared of you. The ex-assassin was terrified of how he felt towards you. He believed you were too good for him and saw avoiding you as his only way to get over the “crush”. Of course, that plan didn’t stop Sam from pushing him towards you every once in awhile.

“Where is Barton? I swear I’m going to kill him.” You asked, walking into the kitchen one day. Your phone was in your hand and you were fuming about how a certain someone decided it would be a fun prank to change all of the contact names in your phone.

“I think he’s in the training room.” Sam replied before Steve could speak.

“Thank you.” You spun on your heel and started towards the training room. After you were out of earshot, Steve turned to his friend with an incredulous look on his face.

“Clint’s in the lab.” He said.

“I know, but Bucky’s training. Maybe they will get to talking.” Sam shrugged with a small smirk. Steve rolled his eyes at his friend, praying that Bucky would turn out okay.

You opened the training room door and the only person in there was Bucky, who was currently hitting a punching bag. Upon hearing the door, he stopped attacking the object and turned to face you. His eyes went wide and he began to search for a way out.

“Bucky, have you seen Barton?” You asked.

“No.” He all but whispered, going to grab his bag.

“Why are you running away from me?” You questioned, stepping in front of the door, blocking his only exit path.

“I’m not.” He mumbled, reaching for the handle. You put all your weight against the door so he couldn’t pull it open.

“You always leave when I’m in the room. Why?” You pestered.

“I don’t.” He said, “Move.”

“Nope. Not until you tell me why you avoid me.”

“Barton’s upstairs in the lab.” Bucky replied.

“More than 10 words. There’s a start.” You stated.

“Please, move.” He ordered. You stepped to the side and let him slip out the door. You left the room as well, making your way into Tony and Bruce’s lab. You entered the room and saw him talking with Tony about his bow.

“Clinton Barton! Fix my phone right now!” You shouted. Instead of chucking your phone at his head, you threw one of the metal wrenches from the table beside you. Clint used his fast reflexes to catch it before it could hit him.

“Someone’s angry.” He teased.

“Fix it. Now.” You demanded, handing him your phone.

“What did you do this time, Legolas?” Tony asked.

“He changed all of my contact names to Pokemon characters and Harry Potter spells.” You replied.

“Nice one.” Tony gave the archer a high five.

“I can’t. I don’t remember their numbers.” Clint simply shrugged, “You’re on your own, princess.”

“Give me your phone then.” You said, snatching your phone back from him.

“No. You’ll screw with it.” He replied.

“Tony, where’s yours?” You asked.

“There’s no way I’m trusting you with my baby.” The billionaire stated.

“I can just list off the numbers I remember.” Clint offered and you agreed, considering he did have a decent memory. You made note to check everything with Natasha when she was back from her lunch with Bruce, Vision, and Wanda.

“Thanks, birdbrain. These better be correct.” You stated, walking out of the room with at least some of the correct contacts.

You were walking down the hallway from the lab to the main area when you saw Bucky headed your way. The moment his eyes met yours, he turned around and hurried off. You groaned at his ridiculousness, vowing to find out why he avoids you. You dealt with your Clint issues today-your Bucky issues could be put off until tomorrow. You sat at the bar in the kitchen, eating an apple when you decided to call Natasha. It rang for a few minutes before listing off the number and going to voicemail.

“Hey, Nat, when are you guys coming back? I’m pretty bored right now without you two. Barton decided to change all my contact names, so I’m having a banner day. I also cornered Bucky about why he won’t talk to me and he said another ten words to me. I swear, I don’t even know why I like him sometimes. Do you know how hard it is to have a crush on someone who avoids you like the plague? It’s unbearable. I wish he’d just man up and talk to me. I’m not that scary, right? Anyways, hurry up and get back here with Wanda. We need more girl talk.” You said, pushing the end button. A minute later, you heard a thud from one of the bedrooms and shouting.

“What the-” you started to wonder aloud, when Sam came sprinting down the stairs, with Bucky chasing after him.

“Y/N, just who I wanted to see-” Sam was cut off by Bucky putting a hand over his mouth.

“Was that you three up there? What was that thud?” You asked, “Please tell me you didn’t break one of Tony’s bedside tables.”

“No, we didn’t. Bucky just needs to talk with you for a moment.” Steve said, casually strolling into the room. Bucky’s phone was in his hands. He pressed a button and your own voice filled the room. It was the voicemail you had just left for Natasha.

“Barton, you little sh*t!” You exclaimed, taking Bucky’s phone and stopping the message before you could hear yourself talk about him. You hoped he hadn’t heard it already, but part of you knew it wasn’t true.

“Bucky, you didn’t happen to hear that beforehand?” You asked, too embarrassed to meet his eyes.

“Yes, he did. He likes you too.” Sam said, but it was completely muffled by Bucky’s hand. Bucky’s face was red and his mouth moved, trying to form words.

“Buck, let go of Sam and we’ll leave you two.” Steve stated. Bucky slowly dropped his hand and Sam made his way to the elevators with Steve.

“Bucky’s in love with you!” Sam called back to you before the doors closed. Bucky stood frozen once more.

“Are we going to talk about it or are you going to continue being a deer in headlights?” You asked, nervously.

“I-I-” Bucky desperately tried to figure out what to say, “I really, really like you, Y/N, and it scares the hell out of me. That’s why I avoided you. You’re not scary-it’s the feelings that are terrifying. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you-I just thought you wouldn’t feel the same about me. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.”

“You don’t need to be scared, Bucky. I like you too, ever since you moved in actually.” You explained.

“Do you want to maybe go out some time?” He looked you in the eyes nervously as he stepped closer to you until he was right in front of you.

“That’d be wonderful.” You replied, reaching your hand out to his and intertwining your fingers together.

“Whoa, what’s happening here?” Natasha exclaimed, walking into the room with Wanda, Vision, and Bruce.

“They appear to be talking.” Vision said. There was a hint of confusion in his voice since you and Bucky had never really talked.

“Aw, did he finally ask you out?” Wanda asked, her eyes growing wide in hope. You bashfully nodded, glancing down at your connected hands.

“We leave for one afternoon and you get a date. We need to leave more often.” Natasha said to Wanda, “Where are the others? Clint’s going to be so excited. We’ve been shipping you two for ages.”

“That reminds me. I have an archer to kill-for real this time.” You stated, letting go of Bucky’s hand and storming off towards the lab.
