book project 2: electric boogaloo

hey folks, in light of the need for some positivity, we (that is to say, ro, lost, and i) have decided to rally together to make yet another book - this one for the dteam as a group!

the goal is to compile little messages (think of what you might write on a whiteboard - encouragement, a hello, appreciation, whatever else) and send them to the PO box for the whole dteam to enjoy :] there's no real overarching theme this time, since this is meant to be a fairly open expression of support/gratitude/etc.

our hope is that people will direct their messages to the entire dteam, but there will be an opportunity to write individual messages as well. that section might end up more limited, as we want to dedicate the most space toward the group sentiments. we'll do our best to accommodate what we can, however.

we also have other plans for supplementary layout items, but we're still working on the details for that. stay tuned, since there might be an opportunity to provide small doodles to the project!

we're planning on keeping the form open for a week (until august 11th, 11:59pm est) or until we hit a set limit of responses - we just want to keep the amount manageable. we may also have to close the form in the event of griefing, but we'll find workarounds if that happens. we want as many people to be able to contribute as possible, which is also why we've got a word limit this time 😘

Will rejection emails be sent if you weren’t accepted? About the form closing time as well - does august 11th 12 am mean around August 10th night 11:59 or August 11th night 11:59? (Sorry if this is confusing to read - the clarification is pretty important to know eaidsf)

"How will I know if I got accepted on the project?" "We will email the invitation letters before august 18th. If you don't get contacted by then that means you werent accepted, however, don't take this to heart as there's only so many artists we can organize."

We will begin emailing emails in the August 14th - 18th week (Followed by an announcement). It could take us more than 1 day to send all of them since we need to tell each artist their corresponding categorie(s). We hope you understand that emailing rejection letters as well could quadruple our organizer's work. Remember to check spam folders as well, to make sure you didn't missed yours.

And applications will close August 11th night 11:59pm PST. We will post a "There's [X] hours left to apply" reminder on friday for clarification.

Welcome to the First Round of our TROPED Mini Event! We are so excited to host a two-round event for Avatar: The Last Airbender!!! If you’re new to TROPED, you can find a little more info on how our events work here! We have hosted multiple events, and we’re so excited to break into another new fandom with you! The mods for this challenge are @thelittlefanpire and @dylanobrienisbatman, and our personal DM’s as well as the ask box on this blog are always open to questions, comments, or concerns!

HOW IT WORKS:

TROPED is pretty simple! This is a fully anonymous fanfic event where anyone can join at any time! We have provided the prompt above (four tropes + a theme) and you have a 7 day writing period to write the fics! All fics are submitted to our AO3 collections, which are specific to each event! After the writing period has ended, we host a community voting period where anyone can vote, based on a few categories that are announced at the beginning of each event (we generally include Best Use of Tropes, Best Use of Theme, Best Overall (Tropes + Theme), and then some bonus polls!) Once the voting has ended, we reveal the authors of the fics and announce the winners!

For these events, there will be two rounds each, which are separate from one another. You do not need to write in the first round to write for the second, and you are not obligated to write for the second round if you write for the first! We will reveal the authors at the end of each individual round!

The Dragon Prince Big Bang Challenge Schedule

January 7th 12:01am EST (Sunday): Sign-Ups open.

Sign-Ups will be open for one week and will close January 14th (Sunday) at 11:59pm EST.

February 10th 11:59pm EST (Saturday): First author Check-In.

Stories must be at least 2500 words (roughly 25% complete).

Authors should include a working title and a private summary for artists to preview.

Details on how to submit will be emailed ahead of time.

February 11th 12:01am EST (Sunday): Private summaries go live.

Artists will have one week to view summaries before claims begin.

Please keep all information provided in the summaries a secret until after partnerships are announced.

February 18th 12:01am EST (Sunday): Artist claims open.

Claims will continue until all fics have been paired with an artist.

Once authors and artists have been paired, authors are responsible for providing their artists with a draft.

March 16th 11:59pm EST (Saturday): Second author Check-In, first artist Check-In.

Author drafts must be at least 5000 words (roughly 50% complete).

Artist Check-Ins require a rough draft/plan of the project.

Authors and artists are expected to provide these drafts to each other as well.

March 30th 11:59pm EST (Saturday): Third author Check-In, second artist Check-In.

Artists should submit updated progress/drafts of their projects.

Anyone who wants their story promo'd by the mod blog should include a final title, ratings, warnings, estimated word count, and a public summary with their check-in.

April 13th 11:59pm EST (Saturday): Final Check-In, schedule requests due.

All drafts should be complete or nearly complete.

The mods create the schedule based on this Check-In. This is the time to request a posting date if you know you need extra time, will have complications, will be unavailable at certain times, etc.

The posting schedule will be released on Sunday, April 14.

April 15 (Monday): Posting begins.

One Big Bang collaboration will be posted every day until all stories have been posted.

May the forth be with you! Bandai is celebrating the iconic day with a contest around the globe! Both Bandai Namco US and UK are hosting contests on their respective Instagram profiles.

Entering is really easy, just locate the post on their Instagram profile and comment on how you will be celebrating May 4th for the contest in the US, and for UK simply locate the post and comment and tag a friend! Both contests are open until May 11th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST and is open to residents of both Canada, Canada, and the UK.

Welcome to the Battle of the Eagle and Lion!

In TOA, this is a tournament-style mini-event where the houses compete to see who will come out on top!

How It Works

Characters who have signed up to compete will be randomly assigned an opponent for each round. The character in the attacker slot will send an attack via ask to the character in the defender slot and a battle will begin. Whoever depletes their opponent’s HP first, or deals the most damage when the round ends, will be determined the winner and will progress to the next round. The house with the most surviving members at the end of the tournament will claim victory!

How to Join

1. First register your muse(s) here. You will be asked to select the house that your character is currently affiliated with, and this affiliation cannot be changed after registration. If your character is an unaffiliated faculty or an Ashen Wolf, they may choose to support one of the three main houses instead. You will also be asked to select two pieces of equipment and one class for your character.

For this event, your characters will start with 5HP and will be able to bring ANY EQUIPMENT from the combat manual, up to Rank C, as long as the character has a matching skill rank. This excludes personal weapons, personal skills, event items, and crests. You will also be able to select a class that your muse has accessed (mastery of the class is not required) and apply the mastery abilities that come with it (up to Intermediate). If your character manages to defeat their opponent and advance to the next round, they will be able to select any one piece of equipment or mastery ability from their opponent, regardless of rank and class restrictions, and add it to their inventory for the next round. We hope that this creates some fun and interesting combinations.

Registration will be open from March 11th to 11:59PM EST on March 17th. Let the House Leaders know if you have any questions.

2. The tournament will begin at noon EST on March 18th and run until 11:59PM EST on March 30th. The first round will run from March 18th until March 21st, or until all battles have ended, whichever comes first. Subsequent rounds will have a shorter time limit so that the tournament will reach its conclusion by the end of the month.

3. Wait with bated breath for your opponent to be revealed. We will make a post with the matchups for each round. This will not be a traditional bracket. The winners of each round will be randomized for the next round and so on. If two characters from the same house are paired, this will be treated as a bye and both characters will progress to the next round. You are still welcome to thread with your housemate, however. Take it as if your characters are regrouping on the battlefield together. Please tag your posts with #toaboel2023.

4. To encourage shorter, faster threads, initiation will begin via ask. Attackers will send the first ask, which will include a description of their attack + the number they rolled. The Defender will reply to the ask with a description of their reaction to the attack (including any modifications to the attacker’s roll/damage if the Defender’s passives grant them such). If the Defender is not knocked out by the attack, they can counterattack in the same post and will roll. The Attacker will then reblog with their response (reaction + counterattack, if applicable), and so on until one character’s HP reaches 0.

5. If you successfully knock your opponent out, congratulations! Your character will progress to the next round with full HP. If your character lost, then join the others in the medical tent. Remember that this is all for fun, so please don’t get upset if your character is KO’d. There are plenty of opportunities to thread with spectators and medical tent visitors while you wait for the tournament to end.

6. This is supposed to be a fast-paced event, so long posts/threads are not necessary. For that reason, battle threads for this event will not count toward mastery regardless of length. All posts will count for the month’s IC requirements though. Please consider whether or not you will be able to actively participate before signing up. It wouldn’t be fun for everyone else if you hold up a round because you don’t have the time to reply to your opponent.

Changes for 2023

The mod team listened to feedback received last year and has decided to try incorporating more team-related skills that previously had no use in this event. This year, each randomized pair will be placed in one of six map segments (Click here for an example of what this will look like, using last year’s Round 1 pairs), which will represent the area of effect for support passives, rallies, and heals. Some abilities, like heals and rallies, can only be used on allies within a certain number of spaces from the caster. The map segment that your character is in will also change every round.

Most of these abilities will require the caster to sacrifice a turn in their own fight in order to help an ally, so communication will be important. This year, we’ll be creating individual channels for each of the map segments in our Discord server so that participants can communicate with each other more easily.

To assist with the number of moving parts that this event tends to have, we’ll be asking for volunteers to sign up to be Scorekeepers using this form. The volunteers we select will be given a special Scorekeeper role within the server that members can ping if they have questions about their battles and when they finish. The primary jobs of a Scorekeeper will be to make sure that combat is logged uniformly so that the data for the superlative awards can be easily gathered at the end of the event and to check that all math is correct before determining an official winner of a battle. The mods will also have this Scorekeeper role so that we can receive the pings as well.

Event items will not be allowed this year. Our biannual arena events allow plenty of opportunities to use these instead.

The range of spells (but not other mixed range weapons) must be declared BEFORE an attack roll is made on that character’s turn. This will lock the range of the weapon on their opponent’s turn. For example, if a character using the Fire spell against a character with an Iron Lance declares that they are attacking at range, the character with the Iron Lance will not be able to counterattack. However, when the Iron Lance becomes the attacker, then the Fire spell will be treated like a Ranged weapon and will not be able to counterattack.

Due to the short length of the battles, combat arts will be considered used even if they miss.

Several weapons have been modified specifically for BOEL. Please read the list below to familiarize yourself with the changes. If a weapon is NOT on this list, then it has not been changed and will be used as it is listed in the combat manual.

Blessed Lance : Healing reduced to +0.5HP per round Blessed Bow : Healing reduced to +0.5HP per round Blizzard : Freeze can be inflicted on counterattack to stop the followup hits granted by Darting Blow or other speed boosts Mire : The -defense debuff lasts until the next round instead of the next turn so that the attacker has the opportunity to change to a physical weapon to take advantage of it. The debuff cannot be refreshed until the turn after it has been cleared. Banshee : Inflicts a -6 speed debuff on the user. Stun can be inflicted on a counterattack but takes effect at the end of the turn and can’t interrupt followup attacks. Stun immunity is granted to the target for one round after initial stun wears off. Black/Dark Magic Avoid+ : Avoid bonus reduced to +2 Heal : Healing potency is halved. User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to heal one adjacent ally Torch : User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to grant +2 dexterity to all allies within 2 spaces Recover : Healing potency is halved. User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to heal one adjacent ally. Inflicted with -4 speed until unit’s next turn Physic : Healing potency is halved. User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to heal any ally within the same map segment. A -4 speed debuff is still applied to the user for the rest of the round and they cannot attack in the same turn. Ward : User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to grant +2 resistance to one ally within 2 spaces Restore : User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to remove all debuffs and statuses from one adjacent ally White Magic Avoid+ : Avoid bonus reduced to +2 All Rallies : User sacrifices their turn, including counterattack, to buff one ally within 2 spaces. Nomination Requirement Info

For the mod's sanity this year, crossovers are not allowed. We might revisit this in later years. The only exception to this is crossovers between ME and MEA.

Participants may nominate any ship or character from the ME Trilogy or MEA.

Characters from all corners of Mass Effect are welcome. Yes, even that one NPC that was on screen for a total of like five seconds. Yes, even characters that were only mentioned and never seen on screen.

Relationships do not have to be canon. Nominate all the crack!

How do nominations work?

Nominations will be open for September 2nd 12:00PM PST to September 11th 11:59PM PST

Nomination queries will be posted to the Dreamwidth comm and tumblr for feedback. Please check in if your tags have not been approved.

Nomination limits are 3 fandoms with 20 relationships per fandom.

If you would like to nominate a single character please do so under ‘relationships’ by disambiguating the character with “Solo: Character name” (Ex. if you would like to receive a fic solely about Garrus Vakarian you would nominate “Solo: Garrus Vakarian”)

For this exchange “/” will denote romantic and/or sexual relationships, and “&” will denote platonic relationships. Female Shepard/Urdnot Wrex is very different from Female Shepard & Urdnot Wrex

Threesomes/moresomes are welcome and encouraged!

Preternatural Bandom Challenge 2022!!!

Hi, all! 

We’re happy to announce that the Preternatural Bandom Challenge (a challenge concept that was initially held on livejournal in 2010) is returning for the second year in a row! It was such a fun challenge last year that we wanted to bring it back and give more people the chance to participate. This year’s PBC will run from now until October 7th at 11:59pm EST!

To quote the 2010 livejournal description, this challenge is for “bandom AUs involving supernatural, preternatural, unnatural, or magical creatures.” This obviously gives any interested participants a HUGE range of topics to write about! Participants in the past have written everything from ghosts and vampires to eldritch beings and aliens, so the sky’s the limit! Let your imagination run wild. We’re so excited to see what you come up with!

Rules and Guidelines:

Sign-ups open July 11th and close August 31st at 11:59pm EST.

PBC 2022 is 18+. You must be 18 by the time sign-ups close in order to participate in this year’s challenge.

All fics should be at least 5k words long, bandom-centric, and aligned with PBC’s theme.

Absolutely no incest/underage explicit/non-con content allowed. Any submissions that include this content will be deleted from the PBC 2022 Ao3 collection.

All mature/upsetting content must be properly tagged.

All participants must have an Ao3 account in order to post to the challenge collection.

While we’ll keep all participants updated on our tumblr and twitter accounts, we highly encourage everyone involved in PBC 2022 to join our discord server! We’ll use the server to send out push notifications of important announcements/updates, as well as give participants a space to create and build community while the challenge is running. Please indicate if you’re interested in joining the server when you’re filling out the sign-up form.
