I am so fucking pissed at this guy. He thinks we are bffs because we went to one music fest together and we were smoking when i had nothing better to do. He bothered me and whined and begged that i cover 2 of his shifts so he can go to Berlin with family. I almost always agree to shifts exchanges with coworkers when i can but in this case there was a huuuge joint bday party 2 coworkers were throwing and i told him i want to go and he was offended (i was invited and he was not🙃)...? And it pissed me off how like... He planned an abroad trip with family but he didnt bother to take paid vacations leave he just assumed i'll always exchange shifts with him whenever he asks because i cant possibly have plans and life of my own and he felt entitled to it?? I ended up agreeing tho bc there was 1 shift he could take so i have 5 days off in a row. If its sooooo important to him that he's been bothering me for 1 fucking week. So, 1 hour after we and our manager signed our exchange shifts paper he told me he is too depressed to go to work and cover one of those two shifts of mine and he'll be taking sick leave 'but dont worry you will not get in trouble because i'll 100% be on the second one'. Yea we had a shift together and he didnt tell me that before i signed the shit even tho he already knew! I was so pissed but I believed him and i was kinda too excited about having 5 days off in a row. Next fucking day he tells me he's not going to Berlin with family on that date and if i wanna go with him for 1 or 2 days on my 5 days off. At first i thot well if u dragged me in the middle of this mess you can take me to Berlin in exchange for the hussle. But after 1 day i realized wait ill be on the first day of my period no way i am going to sit in a car/train for hours and then walk around Berlin when its all windy and cold and told him that. He came to my apt uninvited as he always does and kept being like pls pls pls pls go with me. I was like dude idk if i feel right yea maybe but ill probably wont even be able to get out of bed. He took that as a yes i guess and went to a pub with the main gossiper coworker and a MANAGER as he was on sick leave and BRAGGED about how he is going to Berlin with me. On sick leave when he was supposed to cover my shift. Like he made it look like i intentionally exchanged knowing he wont come to work so we can go together? Of course i didnt even feel like going anywhere on my period but he had to tell everyone. And bam big fucking surprise. He promised i wont get in trouble because he 100% will cover that second shift right. He fucking forgot about it and went to Ukraine of all places and called in with some 'my kid is sick' bullshit to work. And he bragged to me about all the trips he had to be on because he was too sad to go to work as i was getting in trouble at work because of him!! He knows damn well our workplace puts bans on exchanging shifts on ppl who fool around like this. I dont give a shit if he gets not so legit sick leaves but he dragged me in the middle of this mess like what for? He fucking gets 4 sick leaves a week to get out of work he can travel whenever he wants. To be petty and selfish now - I didnt go to that coworkers party, i was banned from exchanging shifts along with him. I talked to the boss and they unbanned me after 1 week, but before that happened uhh. I missed the concert by patriarchy and spit mask because i could not exchange a shift with anyone. God i hate this dude so much now how can one be this immature and selfish like what are you 11. I told him it him it was selfish and entitled behavior and i feel like he used me and didnt care ill get in trouble and he didnt reply since. He didnt even say fucking sorry

Last show: last show i finished i think was abbott elementary? which was very good. last show i got at least mildly obsessed with was superstore before that. by that i mean i think i read almost all of the superstore fic on ao3 in like one night. my last concert however was carly rae jepsen at a lovely outdoor venue and it was an extremely beautiful experience :)

Currently watching: only murders in the building season 2! the finale is out on tuesday and i'm so excited and happy to be watching something that comes out an episode per week again instead of all at once lmao god. i haven't been into some of the choices this season (cara delevingne my parasocial enemy) but yeah. fun mystery and a bit of peril wrapped in an overall very comfy vibe. i also started watching the sandman bc i remember being into the comics like a decade ago (😩) but i'm less confident i will finish that. other than that unfortunately i think i've watched every good video essay on youtube at this point but i'm still making my way through some of the wait in the wings videos about musical theatre productions. and i am WAITING for michael's microphone to tell me about gossip girl!!!!!!!!

Currently reading: vagabonds by hao jingfang! she said NFTs suck and she was right (idk actually i'm only a third through lol). i've also been halfway through a place of greater safety by hilary mantel for hmm over a year but i WILL finish it. one day. anyway idk why i keep sabotaging my goal to start reading more again by choosing books that are a million pages long and slightly hard to get through.

Current obsession: um scotty james and the daniel ricciardo bottom agenda. let the man get fucked by his guypals for god's sake he needs it. rotating my WIP in my mind instead of writing it even though i am mostly making myself finish it to relearn how to write fiction after not doing it for like a decade. fantasising about buying a sewing machine instead of finishing my 2 ongoing crochet projects. going for dinner with friends as often as possible before it starts getting dark early and cold again. finding new recipes to try while i'm on leave from work before i start getting sick of having to cook in the evenings again. thinking about sinophobia, as always. fantasising about going back to china again.

So, for a prompt, how would you feel about the firefam meeting the BAU team?? Bc in my mind, Buck would get along shockingly well with Reid and Garcia while Eddie and Morgan just brood about their favorite ppl not paying attention to them.

The entirety of the one-eighteen had been on edge the entire week. Not only had their calls been emotionally and physically taxing, but Los Angeles seems to have found itself another serial bomber. According to Athena, the LAPD called in the FBI to help investigate after twists and turns and empty leads. 

The reassurance from Athena that they’ve got Behavioral Analysts working hours upon hours with the police department to find the bomber did nothing for Buck’s nerves. It didn’t really do much for the team’s nerves, either. The whole team had been affected by the ladder truck bombing and though they know Freddie is locked away, trauma doesn’t let you think rationally sometimes. When they’re not out on calls, they’re hypervigilant. When they’re out on calls, they’re hypervigilant. At home, they’re either sleeping with one eye open or not at all. 

Buck definitely wasn’t sleeping. He checks every possible location in his apartment where a bomb could be hidden before he leaves for work and as soon as he gets home. He sits awake on the couch when he should be sleeping, waits for a knock or a sound of someone leaving something outside of his door. He hasn’t opened his mail the entire week, just leaves it in his mailbox until his landlord has to check on him to see if he’s alive. He rushes to offer to clean the trucks before anyone else can just so he can check closely for a bomb. 

Which is exactly what he’s doing when two men walk into the station. He hears Bobby greet them but doesn’t pay attention to the rest until his name is called. That makes his heart beat speed up quicker than the speed of a moving bullet. 

When Buck slides himself out from under the truck - he revels in the fact that he can - his eyes widen when he notices the guns holstered on their sides and he’s terrified to find out what the FBI wanted him for.

“You must be Evan. I’m Agent Morgan with the FBI and this is Dr. Spencer Reid, we were wondering if we could ask you a couple of questions?” 

“Buck. Just Buck.” He clears his throat. “Why?”

“Do you remember anything about the night Freddie Costas bombed the truck you were on?”

“Why are you asking? Why do you guys need to know what happened? I’m not the one that was targeted. Can’t you just watch the news report, I know it’s everywhere.” His voice is shaky, he knows he sounds paranoid and panicked but that didn’t matter. Why is the FBI asking him?

“We need more information from those involved with the bombings last ye-” Buck scoffs, cutting Dr. Reid off. 

“Why ask me then? I wasn’t targeted, I wasn’t on that kid’s kill list, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Is Freddie involved in this again somehow?”

“Buck, man, I know it’s gotta be tough to talk about it, this whole station was affected but you were there closest to him when you were trapped. Anything you can remember about that night could help.” Agent Morgan sighs. “Freddie Costas might have had a partner.”

Well fuck.

“Ask Bobby. He was the original target, he has a vendetta against Bobby.” Buck pushes passed the agents, practically shoving Dr. Reid in the process and he can hear the lecture Athena would give about disrespecting law enforcement. 

He winces internally as he thinks about the lecture he’s about to get from his Captain. Great, this is fucking great.

Three days later of restless sleep and constant worrying, Buck gets a call from Bobby on his day off. His heart is in his throat as he answers.

The speed at which his entire body relaxes the second he hears they got her makes Buck dizzy, almost. His knees buckle, falling to his couch in shocked and relieved laughter. He listens as Bobby tells him that Freddie’s partner was a girlfriend who knew her way around making explosives and by Freddie’s orders, she had planned to send one to Bobby and Athena’s again and one to Buck’s for making Freddie’s sentence longer. The fact that he was actually targeted makes him feel a little sick to his stomach but he’s just so full of relief that it’s over again, he laughs.

He feels guilty for the way he’d treated the agents he spoke to. He goes over it in his head as he heads to Bobby’s for dinner after he’d gotten his first full night of sleep in weeks. He shoved a federal agent, cut them off, rolled his eyes. He’d acted like a child and though Bobby didn’t tell him that, he felt like he was being scolded by a father rather than lectured by his captain.

When he arrives at the Grant-Nash’s, Athena greets him at the door and takes the bottle of red wine from his hand with a smile. “Well you look more well rested than I’ve ever seen you, Buckaroo. How’re you doing?”

“Well I’m not crushed under a ladder truck or blown to-” He’s cut off by his own shock at seeing people he definitely didn’t know standing in the Grant-Nash’s living room. His eyes landed on the younger agent he wished he’d had a chance to apologize to not five minutes before. “Uh, hi?”

“Buck, these guys are from the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. I’m sure you remember Agent Morgan and Dr. Reid?”

Buck’s face flushes. “Uh, yeah, I do. Nice to see you again, agents. Sorry about the way I acted, truly. Lack of sleep does that to you, I guess.” 

“There’s no need to be, there’s no hard feelings. We understand.” Dr. Reid smiles respectfully. 

“Yeah, no need. The important thing is that we caught her and you can put this behind you again.” Morgan holds out a fist and Buck returns it to fist bump. “You can drop the title, by the way. It’s Derek.”

“Endearing as it is to see you guys bro out, I would like to get this party started.” A woman with dark hair chimes in as she grabs the bottle of wine that Buck brought. “Oh, and he brought the good stuff. Hello, I’m Emily Prentiss and you have good taste.”

Buck snorts as he shakes her hand. “Nice to meet you. Honored to have your approval.”

She’s about to respond before she’s cut off by a squeal. “Bucky!”

His entire face lights up as he turns towards the voice. “Christopher!” 

“Mr Reid pulled a quarter out of my ear just like you can do! You’re both magic!” Buck lets out a startled laugh. “You also both know a lot of facts!”

“Oh, do we have another Boy Genius amongst us right now?” A blonde woman, who seems to embody sunshine, squeals from Buck’s right. “I’m Penelope Garcia, Garcia, PG, girl of your dreams, whatever you want.”

Buck already adores her attitude and vibe.

“Pretty Boy here’s got an IQ of 187, can read 20,000 words per minute, and has an eidetic memory. How about you, man?” Morgan pipes up.

Buck snorts. “I don’t know my IQ, I definitely can’t read that many words per minute, and I never claimed to be a genius. I just like to read, man. Random stuff in history, astrology, stuff Christopher’s into, philosophy-”

Reid’s eyebrows shoot up in interest. “Who’s your favorite philosopher?”

Thus, a conversation is started. Penelope joins in at the mention of Immanuel Kant and Buck is happy Athena invited them over before they left. He’s lost in a conversation and learning new things and more importantly, he’s made new connections for the day. Eddie joins when the conversation turns to Doctor Who, something that Buck never knew Eddie was into. When he leaves to talk to Aaron Hotchner about baseball, Buck watches as he walks away before getting sucked back into another conversation about black holes.

Across the room from him, Eddie sits with Emily, Derek and a woman he now knows as JJ. He’s laughing as Emily teases him about something. What it could be about, Buck doesn’t know, but seeing Eddie laugh makes his heart soar.

“Oh?” Penelope smirks. “Eddie, huh? What’s going on there?”

Buck’s eyes widen at the unexpected question. “What? Nothing.”

Reid, who didn’t even seem to be one for gossip, scoffs. “Do you know what the BAU does? We study human behavior. The entire time Eddie was over here, you leaned into him whenever you talked. You would brush your hand against his and whenever you’d laugh about something, you’d tap his chest. You only looked at him the entire conversation, you were hanging onto every word. The amount of eye contact between the two of you was evident. When JJ came behind us and knocked into Eddie, you put your arm out to protect him. Classic mannerisms of someone in love.”

“But Eddie does that stuff too. It’s not just me.” Buck really thinks he’s making a point.

Penelope laughs. “Oh, honey, you’re exactly right. This isn’t an unrequited love trope here. Our friends are over there probably teasing him for the same thing right now. You don’t need to be a profiler to see he’s in love with you, too.”

Buck looks over to Eddie along with Penelope and Reid. Eddie’s face is red and he’s looking down as JJ talks exasperatedly. Then Eddie is looking up and catches the three of them staring. Buck’s face is on fire as he waves awkwardly. Derek, Emily, and JJ look up as well and smirk at each other.

“I think I hate profilers.” Buck deadpans. 

Across the room, Eddie says the same thing.

Chapter 8 - The Deathday Party

Harry Potter and the Sacred Text word of the day: Rumors

Just to share a personal story about rumors bc this is a short post, I was working part time during my year off between undergrad and grad school and was going to quit when I started school again. A few months before that, there were rumors spreading around about me already putting in my 2 week notice (idk how it works in other countries, but in the US you have to give at least a 2 week notice of you quitting for logistic reasons). At this point, I hadn’t talked to anyone at work about when I planned to leave or if I was leaving at all for that matter, so I have no idea who started the rumor, but eventually it came upon the ears of my manager and they confronted me about it. That’s actually how I found out about the rumor lmao. I had to be like no I’m not quitting now I have zero knowledge about what’s going on and give them a date of when I’m leaving for real. And this, my peeps, was the first time in my then 22 years of existence that I was the center of a rumor. I had a good laugh at least.

Ok but very little actually happened this chapter lol. Maybe that was why I had trouble forming concrete thoughts about “rumors” from my own reading, and having the podcast was helpful in organizing them a bit. I think my understanding of rumors is slightly different from the hosts, since I see it as spreading information that you don’t fully know the details of, or whether it’s truthful or not (unless you’re spreading something about yourself). Sometimes it’s misinformation, like you mistook smth a person said (i.e. Person A says what if, and Person B mishears it to be a fact), which is something that happens on tumblr all the time.... and the internet. The rumor about Dumbledore booking dancing skeletons for the Halloween feast would be an example of this. Like ppl are so excited about the feast that they’re making stuff up about cool things that could happen lol. Sometimes someone says smth about a specific person, or themselves, either out of malice or to build reputation. This would be Sir Nick telling Harry to talk about how Nick is frightening and impressive at his deathday party to make himself seem cooler. Gossip on the other hand can be about either true or false information, it can be for entertainment, to vent, or just to have idle chat. I think Hermione talking about Moaning Myrtle is gossip, because she’s experienced all of the things she said, but if say, Harry or Ron start spreading it to other people, then it becomes a rumor. That personal rumor I talked about earlier? I have no clue how to categorize it lol. Did someone mishear smth? Were they pulling it out of their ass? The world may never know.

I want to get into Filch and the Kwikspell a bit, since the hosts brought up something interesting in the podcast episode. Harry finds a infomercial letter on Filch’s desk about how to do magic easily. What Harry doesn’t understand is why Filch would have it, so he wants to talk to Ron and Hermione about this interesting piece of info he found out and can’t make sense out of. This is gossip lol. What we find out later is that Filch is a squib and the interesting thing brought up is how Filch might be overcompensating for the fact that he can’t use magic. So he hides the fact that he’s magic-less and creates this persona that he wants to torture students so that he can gain some amounts of respect (through fear). I can imagine Filch would face a lot more disrespect if it was common that he was a squib. I wonder if he later internalized his persona or if he always would have actually enjoyed hanging students from the ceiling by their ankles. i’ve never dated anyone until this one guy and i honestly thought he was different than everyone and would be cool, but no, he cheated on me six months into dating with this girl who’s known for ruining ppls relationships or getting into relationships quickly and stuff. well anyway, i find out and i dump him. but then apparently the girl isn’t satisfied and she spreads a rumor about me, but then ALSO tells me she wants to be my friend and she’s sorry, whilst spreading this rumor, and i’m a quiet girl who nobody really talks to and suddenly everyone knows me for these stupid rumors all from just dating this ONE GUY. and he was my first boyfriend who i actually trusted and it all turned into this. i’m just sick of all this stuff while i’m trying to graduate and go to college. i just wish i was out already /:

High school is hard, especially if you’re past the point in your life where social status and impressing other people feels like it matters. Ultimately, I think all you can do is ignore the people you don’t like, spend time with the people you do, and wait for the drama to blow over. The rumor mill at high schools goes so quickly that everyone will have forgotten whatever this girl has been saying about you and have moved onto something else pretty soon. If it really bothers you, you can also try to take some of your classes online or at a community college/university in your area for college credit. It will get you out of your school for periods of time and also help to set you up for your future really nicely.

hey so i was thinking about getting the me:a and ive been a huge fan of ME games in the past but i heard rly bad things about it?? like a lot of ppl are unhappy w it? and id get the origin access thing but i cant since im on a mac and i was just wondering what you thought abt it & if its worth getting the game now

tbh I love it so far! I definitely think it’s worth it. the gameplay is really fun, the characters are all great so far, and the story is really dragging me in! I’ll admit I’ve stopped myself from going to far in early access, bc I don’t wanna have to worry about missing things from being on a time limit, but I’ve seen videos on what the full trial has to offer and I’ve played a bit of the multiplayer. based on what I’ve seen so far I would definitely 100% recommend the game, especially if you’re a fan of the original trilogy

(I’m gonna talk abt some stuff, no spoilers tho!)

probably the biggest concern you’ve been seeing is facial animations? imo they’re really not bad, they can definitely be kinda weird at times and they eyes/eyebrows don’t always look Quite right but honestly I really like all the little oddities! I already made a post abt how I think it’s really endearing and makes everyone cuter lmao. I’ve also seen a few other animation glitches but they really aren’t that big a deal lmao. tbh animations have never been bioware’s strong point anyway so I’m not entirely sure what people are so mad about. another major complaint I’ve seen is the character creator, which is definitely limited, especially compared to the other games. I wouldn’t say it was dogshit tho lmao, like it was harder for me to create a ryder I liked with it but I just had to experiment a little and I figured it out lmao. I also really like the new tattoo options, and I’m not sure why people are so salty over the hair??? like it MOVES NOW!!!!! there are some really nice options! ppl are complaining there’s no long hair but tbh it’s long enough for this. I’m not entirely sure what they expect, like ass length hair? like this is bioware can u imagine the clipping we’d get with that hair long lmao (I’m sorry this is becoming me like. getting super salty over the fandom but I’m a salty bitch lmao)

I’m on mobile so I can’t stick any of this under a readmore so before this gets too long I’ll talk real quick abt how good it is! the combat is super fun, it definitely feels more fast paced but still like mass effect! I’m still trying to get used to some of the new mechanics tho so I’m pretty bad at it lmao, it probably doesn’t help that I’m experimenting with a new class either!! the characters are all great so far, I was really pleasantly surprised by dad as cora (not that I was expecting them to be bad or anything, they were both a lot warmer than trailers had made them seem, and cora was funny too). Liam I had very high expectations for and he met every single one and more, he was an absolute delight to be around. I didn’t personally meet the tempest crew or other squadmates yet (like I said I don’t wanna go too far yet) but from what Ive seen in videos they all seem fantastic: vetra is cool, peebee seems super fun, gil is ADORABLE (I wanna romance him as Scott now!!), suvi is a sweetheart. Kallo is a huge nerd and apparently loves to talk shit and gossip and I love him so far! I don’t wanna compare him to joker, that kind of feels like doing him a disservice, but I wanna say he’s definitely a worthy successor to him. I’m so excited to spend more time with them, and also to actually see jaal lmao. Voice acting for everyone is phenomenal, especially the Ryder siblings. I’ve played a bit as both of them and they definitely feel like two different, if similar, people. they even had different dialogue options and lines! I really love how they both seem to have their own distinct personalities (not to say you can’t shape them yourself as well, but they feel different from each other when you play as them). The story is really good so far, I’m super interested in all the different threads they’re stringing for us — there are a lot!!! — and I’m so excited to see what’s gonna happen next with the nexus, the golden worlds, companions, all of it! music is really good. it actually felt a lot like dragon age inquisition to me, especially in the cc. the game looks amazing too! like even besides the animations, which as I said I kind of liked lmao, the graphics are really great. environments and space and the sky all look beautiful, and the characters look amazing. armor is sick too — I’m a fuckin mess for cool armor lmao.

I hope I kind of helped u make up your mind or at least eased some of ur worries about the game? like not to be rude but the bioware fandom has always been kind of a negative Mess so I wouldn’t worry too much about what they have to say lmao. but yeah I love the game so far! It definitely has its little quirks and it isn’t perfect but the problems are honestly negligible in the grand scheme of things, the game is totally worth it and I’m super excited to see how it all plays out!
