not to think of pride and prejudices directors commentary of the 'im very fond of walking.' 'i know' scene, where joe wright says "he could have said 'you' there, it could have been 'i know you'" whilst watching far from the madding crowd, but! the way she pauses after saying 'i wish i could go, too' and they have a moment of just looking at each other in their own world. and im not the director but god. she could have said 'with you' there, there was an unsaid 'with you' and its absence was felt in the weight of the moment after. 'i wish i could go, too. with you.'

⭐️ anything regency au!!
For reference:
Reblog this if you want readers to come into your ask box and ask for the “director’s commentary” on a particular story, section of a story, or set of lines.
Or, send in a ⭐star⭐  to have the author select a section they’ve been dying to talk about!
Oh, let's talk about the scene in the bookshop! (Chapter Three, if you can't quite remember.)
So, the original plan for the bookshop scene was that Logan was going to stumble around a bit before admitting to Niki that he wanted to buy Oscar a book of American love poetry. The whole idea was that Logan wanted to show Oscar that he was paying enough attention to understand what he likes, but also wanted to give Oscar something of himself. The idea was that he would pick out a book of poems, Oscar would read it, and be flustered by Logan's choice of poems.
Obviously this didn't happen. Why?
American poets of the era were so bloody depressing.
I'm not much of a poet, so I didn't want to try and write one for the fic, and since I'd already named Byron, wanted to find an American poet to use. Well. Let me tell you. It went like this: war. sadness. religion. war. colonisation. war. sadness. religion. sometimes all at once.
So that plan had to change. The problem was that I had already written the rest of the scene and indeed most of the rest of the chapter, so I had to think of something else to buy.
I am a massive Pride and Prejudice fan (in case that wasn't obvious at all), and so I looked up when it was published. Even though the fic doesn't have a very specific timeline, I decided that it was close enough to approximately when it's set. And then the fact that it turned out to be a love story between a proud and reserved man and a sprightly and clever lady kind of worked. The fact that Austen is an omega author in this universe also helps - Logan has, unintentionally, also shown Oscar he doesn't look down on omegas who achieve things.

I think I can finish the last blanket square tomorrow, which means on Sunday I’ll lay them out on the bed in my guest room and try to crochet them together. What should I watch on the TV in there while I do it?

*years later* thanks so much for the tag @lovelybeautifulpretty!! cant recall if i warned u before but i tend to go buckwild with these, sorry and your welcome :D
Here are top 10 fav films and surprise surprise, im just a hot mess of eclectic tastes 🤷‍♀️ in no particular order:
Tumblr media
Robocop
This 80s masterpiece is a smart political satire/social commentary disguised as a comic book/action revenge movie that interweaves hilarious dark humor, ultraviolence and science fiction in a simple yet seamless plot. It will honestly SHOCK you just how much it has to say on American evolutions in capitalism, media influence, desensitization to violence, gentrification, and our perception of heroes, each in service of a greater conversation about identity and culture.
Tumblr media
Atonement
I consider this film the pinnacle of an angsty/doomed romance executed perfectly on-screen: the performances, the cinematography, the music, EVERYTHING!! Funny story, me & the girlfriends went to see this in theaters expecting a typical period romance; left completely snot-dripping, bawling our eyes out. I shit you not, i felt the utter devastation from this film for WEEKS
Tumblr media
Amelie
If there was a film to define the term "whimsy" then this is it!! Its so creatively rich, with such a fun and sweet art style in the characters, the way its filmed, the music, the romance- it'll make your heart ache for days.
Tumblr media
Inglorious Basterds
I'm a big whore for Tarantino ever since Reservoir Dogs, but I consider film his ABSOLUTE masterpiece. The comedically distinct characters, the sharpness of dialogue, how he builds up the tension of scenes to the point of explosion with just a simple conversation- *CHEFS KISS*
Tumblr media
Children of Men
This dystopian sci fi drama was made in 2005 but with all the social commentary woven into the background of the story, it is eerily topical in today's tumultuous political & social climate (which is very telling about us as a society I suppose). The director Alfonso Cuaron is a master at "show don't tell" filmmaking and it SHOWS. Also the tracking long shots in this film are something to witnessed, beheld even. Masterpiece.
Tumblr media
Bridget Jones' Diary
My absolute FAV romantic comedy, i totally relate to this bumbling, epic disaster of a woman, even more so now that i'm 30+ like her. Fun fact, the plot is heavily inspired by Pride & Prejudice which is probably why i love it so much. Also Colin Firth 🥵 (which leads me to another fun fact- he was cast as Mark Darcy mainly due to the author's crush on him from his portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 1996 BBC miniseries which put him on the map, and rightly so. I know the film adaption is super popular, but any P&P fan NEEDS to watch this version, so so good)
Tumblr media
Chicago
This musical ruined all theater musicals for me forever- the film adaptation is THAT good!!! The spectacle, the numbers, the PERFORMANCES- Catherine Zeta Jones slayed as Velma Kelly (also my ovaries), i love it so much that i watched it 3 times back to back on a flight i honestly couldnt get enough lol
Tumblr media
Kung Fu Hustle
This film is Stephen Chow's magnum opus- an action comedy that blends kung-fu and all sorts of historical chinese references and homages of the directors favorite films, you can tell the passion and the fun that went into making this film and it really REALLY shows. I consider this a perfect execution of what a live-action anime could be, this film is an absolute blast and classic
Tumblr media
Annihilation
I've got a bit of a cosmic/existential horror kink (where a form of media makes you question the world/life as we know it or triggers an existential crisis) and this film gets it RIGHT. It's a philosophical sci-fi thriller but is so much more with its themes of pain and identity, exploration of humanity's disposition for self destruction but also its unsettling visuals and soundtrack. Funny story, the sound design is so alien/unsettling that it spooked my cat from her nap and got her staring at the screen with wide eyes and an arched back trying to figure out what the eff was going on (me as well).
Also love how its an all female cast but its never mentioned in-film; just a bunch of capable women going to take care of business (i didnt even notice until my 2nd watch)- im a fan of this approach as it in effect "normalizes" this scenario whereas calling it out as if its special just highlights how it's an exception...anyway, its a horrifically beautiful film.
Tumblr media
Sicario
Denis Villeneuve can do no wrong in my eyes (nor cinematographer Roger Deakins), a beautifully shot thriller that serves as a social commentary on how laws are meant to be broken, lines are drawn and then erased when convenient, as long as it serves a so-called greater purpose, that keeping a moral code is a futile effort. Brilliant performed and written, nuanced characters, glorious cinematography and a killer soundtrack (RIP Johan Johansson), A+++++
alright sorry for the long rambling post, cant help myself! Tagging a bunch a folks that seem alive per my notifs, no pressure of course!!!

earl grey, white tea, and chamomile!
Early grey: usually, I don’t mind re-answering questions in tag games, but my answer to how I like my tea is long lol, so here’s the other ask I answered it in (X)
White tea: I’m currently a postdoc (postdoctoral scholar, for those unfamiliar it means I’ve earned my doctorate and now I’m doing just research on an established faculty member on their grant) in STEM higher education research, and while this exact project isn’t quite what I’d like to do when I get my own position and funding, I’m generally in the right area—I really want to put my astronomy education to use and teach astronomy in addition to physics, and then do research on queer and trans folks in higher education STEM
Chamomile: I have. A few lol. Lilo & Stitch is always a go-to, as is The Emperor’s New Groove and Atlantis, plus Winnie the Pooh, How to Train Your Dragon, or the Aristocats, or Little Women (2019) and Emma (2020) and Pride and Prejudice (2005). And Tangled and The Princess and the Frog! Land Before Time, too, and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe with the cast and director commentary turned on
Thanks for the ask!!!

Hellooo
Could I please have a Director’s Cut of ‘Bedside Manor’ if it’s not too late? That fic makes me 💕💓
Of course you can! Anything for you, Bo!
I received an ask from someone with a link to a TikTok video, and it turns out they sent it a bunch of other people did too! 😂 But the original source was a bit too dramatic me, but it did get the wheels turning and I got a glimmer of an idea that turned into this fic!
But when I say I was SHOCKED by the response to this one! Even a few months later, I’m still surprised by warm reception people gave it!
I’m always finding reasons to slip in that Bradley can cook any chance I get. Carole was a single mom, and I stand by the fact she definitely made sure that her soon could at least fend for himself in the kitchen (even before she got sick, but after, he was stepping up to try and make things as easy as possible for her so that her only focus was on trying to get better). And he was running late that morning because he wanted those chocolate chip cookies as fresh as possible to impress the girl he likes. He was doing the GBBO waving of the sheet pan to try and cool them down. His mom’s recipe is written on an index card that’s well loved with a floral border.
I loved the idea of her missing absolutely every single one of his cues. She just thought he was flirty by nature (which he is) versus actually flirting with her (which he was) 🤭 He knows she is Nat’s longest time friend and he thought he was being very overt with his feelings, but he didn’t want to read into something unless he knew for sure that she would be receptive to it because of her relationship to Nat.
I mention a little bit of their history and how they show up for each other. But Nat’s high school antagonist’s name “Carly Radke” is a take on a Summer House bravolebrity. When I have a side character that I need a name for, in all of my fics, I’m pulling from that show 😂 idk if that’s something anyone has ever noticed because it’s so specific, but it’s a little tidbit why I pick the names I do. Haha!
It really mattered to me to get the balance in the car ride right. They’re both frustrated for different reasons (he’s mad at himself, she’s mad that he’s being so cold), but making sure that he didn’t come across as a total asshole was very important to me. Even while he’s stewing in his own guilt, he’s so hyperaware of her and her needs. Some of my favorite parts of this fic are him helping her slip on his shorts and shirt, of him tossing her his sunglasses as they bicker, and that moment he reaches for her ankle to elevate it on his thigh when he notices she can’t get comfortable. He’s not the best with his word, but through out the whole thing he’s showing her how much he cares with every single action.
I don’t know if there’s still an interest in a follow up to this one, but one of the images I have in my head is Nat and Reader having some girl talk about Rooster under the covers a la Pride and Prejudice, while he tries to sleep on her too small for a big naval aviator couch.
Send me a ⭐️ for director’s commentary on a fic!

It's about her discovering sensuality. And also that she's not just admiring Darcy's wealth, but she's admiring his culture, she's admiring his appreciation of beauty. That he has a sensitive soul. And that she loves him for his sensitivity.

Top 3 movies of 2022. If that's been asked, top 3 fave songs?
i’m bored so ask me my top 3 of 2022! movies, tv shows, songs, moments in the don’t worry darling press tour, tweets about house of the dragon, anything!
the batman (director: matt reeves) - inject this movie into my veins, it's so good. a genuine detective mystery, beautifully shot, a great ensemble, dunks on incels.
glass onion (director: rian johnson) - this was my most anticipated movie of 2022 and it did not disappoint. gets better everytime i watch it, really funny, dunks on elon musk AND incels.
cyrano (director: joe wright) - i love a swishy period romance and wright's pride and prejudice reigns supreme in this genre but add music written by one of my very bands and peter dinkelage? chef's kiss.
honourable mention: see how they run (director: tom george) - long live the murder mystery revolution! saoirse and sam have great chemistry together, the commentary on true crime's impact on victims and their families is great and it's just lush to watch.

you know what I love about pride and prejudice (2005)? no matter how many times I watch it I never get sick of it like I’ve already watched it three times this week and I’m now watching it again with the director’s commentary and I still laugh at every joke and get completely captivated by the first proposal and the scene in the mist like it’s just such a beautiful movie

Pride & Prejudice: Director’s commentary
“We wanted to create an atmosphere where you got led into the environment with Elizabeth. We got to know them with her. And the mess. The idea that it's a house full of hormones [...]. You have to fall in love with all your characters, and I certainly felt in love with all of this lot.”
