Love. Love certainly comes in different forms. According to C.S. Lewis, there are four types that people focus on: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Omitting agape as many do not believe in the Christian faith, the other three simply play a role in everyone’s upbringing whether they notice the existence of these loves in their life or not. Following the words of Lewis, we would be obliged to love every single day without a choice whether it’s to us or seeing it with others. We see love wherever we go. But in this society, do we really know what love is? Love is not as straightforward as we thought it would be unlike adding and subtracting in math. Love is strange but whatever the perspective by the person, it could also be the most beautiful thing in the world.
And that is not how you write a world-class essay to make you pass an honors class.
Huang Renjun began to press the backspace of the conclusion to the last essay he needed to write for the English class. It wasn’t his essay that he was writing but one that was in his queue of his homework services. The list was stacked with requests of the take on C.S. Lewis’s Four Loves for Mrs. Lee’s Junior English Honors class, but the teacher could care less that the students cheated in the class in the peewee town of Dalgleish in the state of Oregon.
Dalgleish didn’t have much except for the Pretty Douglas Fir trees decorated around the boundaries of the town. It was fitting as the Dalgleish basically meant green field. There weren’t many open fields but looking at the town from above, the amount of trees make it look like a green space. That was one of the things that Renjun enjoyed seeing, the nature that the town offered. It was calming, least to say. Losing himself into the natura was a good getaway from the extensive labor he needed to do to support him and his family. His family consisted of his father and younger sister, Mei. His mother passed away due to breast cancer when Renjun was thirteen and Mei was ten.
That was the reason why he started his business of the homework services, but it also extended into adding more part time jobs to continue a decent salary for a high school student. His father never asked him to do any of these jobs because he never wanted to overwork Rejnun and his sister during high school. He wanted to make sure that they could focus primarily on their school work and occasional side jobs to include in their résumés and transcripts. Though due to the passing of his wife, he wasn’t able to commit to his computer science career and waived off the successful path to enter a minimum wage job.
Renjun understood the reason for his father’s lack of working, which is why he stepped up a little more than a teenager should carry on their shoulders. He loved his family too much to not do so. Which is why, he was checking off the list of names on his queue for the homework that needed to be handed that day.
Zhong Chenle
Eleanor Lee
Amie Quill
Wong Yukhei
Eugene Mills and the list going on.
He calculated the amount that was due and the total, making sure that no one paid him less. He didn’t mind if someone paid more, as it would be beneficial to any extra expenses that needed to be paid off. “$20 per essay, mm.. $200. That should be enough to cover the water bill and the groceries.”
Mei nodded, writing the total on the sticky notes that littered all over the mirrored wall. The wall full of sticky notes for the week logging any needed tasks to be finished. Wherever there weren’t any sticky notes were old pictures of the family and memories in their upbringing or new polaroid pictures of Renjun and Mei. It was a nice reminder of the moments that were captured in the midst of the hard every days.
“Hey, uh, Renjun, I was wondering if I could go to homecoming?” Mei questioned, breaking the silence as Renjun revised the to-do lists while editing his own essay. He forgot to do so since the amount of requests to do their homework was unbelievable. The only downside of the homework service was that everyone requests last minute. “Renjun.”
“Sorry, I forgot to do my homework,” he snapped his head up, letting his sister know that she had his undivided attention. Mostly. “Uh, what did you ask?”
“I was just asking if I could go to homecoming, I’ll even work extra hours to pay for my dress. I’ll even pick up some of the homework in your requests,” Mei pleaded, not verbally but through her eyes. Renjun stared at her, wondering if she was serious. It wasn’t uncommon for freshmen to attend high school events, especially someone like his sister. Mei was and still is the type of person to enjoy the events that school offers. It was the perfect opportunity to spend time with her friends and escape the hours of working. That was what Renjun recalled during their late night talks as they pleated the dumplings for their lunches for the rest of the week.
“Renjun, stop spacing out,” Mei shook his shoulder, seeing if it would wake him up out of his trance.
“Uh, yeah yeah. You can help me with some of the homework and take over my shift for the next two days at the library, is that okay?” Renjun offered. He knew he would have felt bad if he said no. Knowing his sister, she would either give up on working and not get a new dress, or give up working and not going to homecoming all together.
Mei agreed, nodding her head profusely and quickly embracing her brother. Renjun stood there, reluctantly wrapping his arms around her. Mei rarely showed affection to him which is why he seemed so surprised at the actions. Nonetheless, he appreciated the love. God. Love. Love. Love. His essay. His eyes widened, releasing from the grasp of his sister, “Crap, I need to finish the last paragraph of my essay.”
The sound of the alarm ringing through the kitchen, notifying the Huang siblings that it was time for them to head to school. Renjun groaned, wanting to bang his head against the wall. He shoved the folder with the homeworks that he finished inside of his backpack while tossing Mei her lunch. He grabbed the pen that hung off of the wall, checking off the sticky note that was made a week before to remind him of the work to do. Renjun rechecked everything once more to be certain that he hadn’t skipped over anything. Assuring himself that he didn’t miss anything, he grabbed the keys of his dad’s car and made his way out the door. Before exiting the house, his dad seemed to be missing from his usual spot on the couch but knew he was home due to his shoes still at the door.
“Mei, is dad still home?” Renjun questioned as he sat on the floor to put his shoes on. Mei turned around to face her brother and nodded, “He’s taking a shower and already made his food.”
Renjun nodded, slinging his backpack over his shoulders to adjust the straps as he wore it, “Are you ready to go?”
“I’ve been ready, I don’t know about you,” Mei sarcastically retorted. Renjun scoffed, standing up and opening the door to allow his sister to go out first. As they walked outside to get to the car, Renjun playfully kicked her leg causing her to quickly turn around to punch him. He quickly ran to the car to escape her wrath.
Tumblr media
“Alright, I’ll see you later. Don’t forget your shift at the library,” the male informed his sister as they both entered the school. Mei groaned but nodded, saying goodbye to her brother as she parted ways to join her friends. Now, Renjun was stuck to being a high class loner for the rest of the day. He never made any friends, well ones that didn’t last long. Though he was content with that. It was better than having ones that would backstab you or talk behind your back. For being a small town, Dalgleish didn’t have much to offer with people. So, people created their own drama. Luckily in all of the Huang siblings’ time in Dalgleish, they never had any mentions of being in drama. They only were the butt of the joke of their low-class dad, but Mei and Renjun never paid attention, so the joke died before it was even alive. That belonged to the top of the hierarchy in their school. But, Renjun could care less about them and rather focused on his studies and jobs.
“Here is yours and Chenle’s homework,” Renjun flipped through the countless essays in the folder, handing Lucas the needed homework.
“Ahh, thanks, let me send you the money now. I’m also paying for Chenle’s, just in case you wonder why there’s extra,” Lucas pulled his phone out to send the money through the Venmo app.
Feeling his phone buzz, Renjun took his phone out to check that the amount was correct. Confirming that it was right, well it was actually over. Chenle and Lucas were always kind enough to pay extra. They always said it was just for the hard work that he gives since they were his first customers and the growth of the services. “Thanks, Lucas.”
Lucas smiled before heading his way for his class. After he left, Renjun continued to make his way to all of the students that needed their work for the day. He scheduled different locations and times around the school to make sure that his contraband work wasn’t known to the faculty of the school. The only one who knew was their English and Physics teachers. Mrs. Lee and Dr. Jean.
Mrs. Lee immediately knew that the essays by the students in her class weren’t written that perfectly. The growth from one essay to another seemed to be developed overnight. Not trying to question her students, they were bright but most that had the perfect scored work weren’t the brightest. Knowing this, Mrs. Lee found out after give and take, she realized that the work was by Renjun. To let him know that she knew, she asked to conference with him after class. The only thing that Renjun grasped from the conversation is that she blatantly called her students stupid when it came to essays. Renjun agreed but defended them that they were smart in other areas and needed to strengthen their levels in the writing department.
And for Dr. Jean, he just didn’t care.
“So, who’d you write for this time? I just don’t wanna read the essays to waste my time to give them A’s,” Mrs. Lee sat in her chair, sipping on her cup of coffee as she watched Renjun pack his stuff up so he could attend his next class.
He dismissed his teacher’s comment, placing his essay on her desk, “I’ll give you a list later. Oh, I also need a recommendation from my favorite teacher.” He smiled, setting a blank recommendation letter for the college he’s applying to on her desk.
He watched her scan over the document, only for her face to scrunch up in disgust. He reflected her expression with his own face, confused as to why she looked repulsed, “What is it now?”
“I don’t know, you could have chosen a better school with your grades and get in,” she tossed the paper into her neat stack before grabbing the essays and shelving it.
Renjun shrugged, knowing that the reason is that he was afraid to leave his sister and dad. More so, his sister. He didn’t want to leave all of the responsibilities to his sister. To delve even farther, the responsibility of taking care of their father. He wasn’t sure if Mei was ready to do it. A lot of people may wonder why he even thinks of his father, but his dad was still family. Their dad may not be in the best state and not pulling his weight as the head of the family, but he still worked every so often. Their dad was lucky enough to be friends with the owner of his job, and the owner understood the hardships that he was going through. The consequence of his lack in effort fell on his children.
“I just think it would be better if you attend some other college, maybe, I don’t know,” Mrs. Lee retrieved another document on a clipboard, handing it to him.
He grabbed the clipboard, wondering what it was. An application to University of Oregon. He laughed, tearing his eyes away from it to look out the window. She’s still trying to do this. He gave the clipboard back, “I can’t go to this university. It’s not even that good.”
“It was good to me,” Mrs. Lee gave him a hall pass on a sticky note before waving him off to allow him to get to his next class.
“Well, I’m passing and staying in the best town in the world,” he waved as he walked out of the class.
Renjun pondered on the idea of leaving Dalgleish, but would it be the right decision. Everything he needed was right here. There could be a great job opportunity when he graduates from the community college. Well somewhere and that somewhere is not in Dalgleish. He was going to have to move out of the town one way or another if he wanted to pursue his dream of becoming a computer scientist. Maybe, he could find a way to come back to Dalgleish, opening a company would be beneficial. That was settled on a maybe. For now, all he needed to do was pass junior year and move onto senior year.
Making his way inside of the physics classroom, he showed the pass to Dr. Jean, only for it to be dismissed. He took his seat next to the window in the back. With the lack of care that his teacher had in the class, Renjun worked on the next requests of his services.
“Renjun, you’re working with Isabelle,” his teacher declared. Renjun picked up his head so fast, wondering as to why there’s suddenly a project. He was always informed beforehand in the beginning of the semester of what’s to come, but he came to realize Dr. Jean was the best teacher at coming up with random projects. Renjun just nodded, clearing his backpack from the chair next to him allowing Isabelle to sit it in.
Isabelle gave him a head bow, greeting him, “Hi. I’m Isabelle but you could just call me Hwayoung. You probably already knew that. I can’t believe Dr. Jean still calls me Isabelle, probably because he can’t pronounce half of our names.”
Renjun chuckled, shutting his computer off to place back in his backpack. He picked two of the copies of the paper before tossing the extra copies inside of the extra copy bucket that was behind him. He handed the paper to Hwayoung before reading the document. Seeing it was the project, his mouth contorted to a form of disappointment in finding the surprise assignment. The project didn’t even have anything to do with physics but basically getting to know your partner and put it in a PowerPoint. He didn’t know if he wanted to cry or laugh. He glanced in Hwayoung’s direction: Pretty. Pretty. Popular.
Choi Hwayoung. The ideal girl that anyone could ask for. She was nice and smart. She was one of the pretty girls of the school, and everyone knew that. Renjun liked her when he joined the Model UN team, and she was also on it. He thought that she was also smart when she stood her ground during the time of Model UN. He wished he could have stayed longer as he enjoyed it, but his sister wasn’t all that capable when he had to leave for a competition once. Despite thinking the basic reasons for him liking her, he liked how she smiled and her dimples just protruded. Her eyes were full of life when debating. How she spun her pen between her fingers when she was in focus. Renjun, tone your feelings down.
Now, he wasn’t sure if he still liked her due to the lack of attention he gave his own feelings.
“Oh right, my name is Renjun,” he whispered as Dr. Jean ranted on another go of the conspiracy theories of the Illuminati and Beyoncé . His teacher always made the time in class go by faster or slower depending on how dedicated he is to the conspiracy topic. Some were more interesting than others. He looked over to her writing, “I think you knew that already.”
“Yeah, I did. You were on the Model UN team but left, you were really good at what you did,” Hwayoung complimented him. He smiled, nodding as his way of accepting the praise.
The small talk ceased as the bell rang for dismissal, he collected his items and shoved them into his backpack. He slung his backpack over his shoulder, “I’ll do the project and turn it in when it’s finished.”
“But this is a two person project. I am not asking for your homework service to come in play here,” Hwayoung turned to look at him. “Maybe, we could just actually do it together. Unless you don’t want to because you’re uncomfortable to do that which then do the project by yourself, just text me if you need anything.”
With that, she smiled and left. Renjun watched her leave the classroom. That was a first. Typically any project with partners left Renjun to do the work all by himself, which he didn’t mind. Most complain that they had to do it by themselves, but he enjoyed the easy A without the others messing it up.
Tumblr media
The final school bell rang, but Renjun was already in the car, waiting for his sister. He hummed to the music, tapping to the tunes of Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman album. His head turned to the door opening, and his sister joined him in the car already singing the song. Renjun turned down the volume, “Ready?”
She nodded while buckling up her seatbelt. Renjun placed the car in reverse, only for a student to be waving a paper trying to get his attention. He wasn’t paying attention, trying to get Mei to work on time was his priority.
As he continued to reverse the car, he still hadn’t noticed the student until Mei tugged on his jacket. He slammed on the breaks, finally seeing the student waving the paper around in the rear-view mirror. He almost ran over him. He inhaled and exhaled deeply, trying to come to a compromise in his head that he almost committed homicide by accident, “What the hell?”
The male student walked around from the rear of the car before going around to the driver’s side. He knocked on Renjuns window before Renjun rolled the window, “Why were you in my way?”
“You almost killed me. Shouldn’t you feel a little empathetic?” The student smiled with a teasing tone in his voice.
“If you have nothing important, I will be going now,” Renjun put the car in drive, starting to press on the acceleration pedal. He still wanted to know what the student wanted, but it was probably just another order for homework help. “If you want me to do your homework, find my number and text me.”
“I want you to help me write a love letter. I read your essay for Lucas, and it was really good,” the student requested, holding the note out. Renjun slammed on the brakes once again, but this time, Mei slapped her brother in the shoulder for the discomfort of their backs hitting the seats so harshly. He looked at her with an apologetic expression before his gaze turned back to the student.
The student held the note at the window, which Renjun started to read.
Dear Choi Hwayoung.
The first three words were enough for Renjun to decide if he was going to help this fool or not. He shoved the letter back into the hands of the requester, “Nope, I’m not writing a love letter to Hwayo- to her.”
“Oh, to who?” Mei pitched in. Love always made people curious, well more nosy. Then, the ideas of who ends up with who just turned into a big mess. Renjun certainly didn’t want to help someone out that wanted to create a love letter. Plus if he was the recipient of a love letter, he hoped it wasn’t made by someone that didn’t have feelings for the person. Or in Renjun’s case, written by the person’s personal feelings. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be genuine. Artificial. Unauthentic. Fake. Love isn’t supposed to be any of those things if a person wants to make it work.
“No one, Mei.” Renjun answered before he turned back to the student, “Have a good day.” He rolled the windows back up and continued to drive away to his priority. He looked in the mirror once more to find the student sulking with his head down. He chuckled. That’s so pathetic.
“Hey, you could have totally picked that request up. That was Lee Jeno,” Mei tapped away on her phone as she informed him of who the student was. Renjun scoffed, but he also was unsure why the name of the student is relevant. Customers are customers. There’s no needed relationship as it’s based on monetary and satisfaction of getting work done. Mei looked at her brother who stayed silent, and she was sure that he had no clue who Jeno was. She raised her eyebrow, “Do you not know who Lee Jeno is?”
“Do I care? Mm.. Not really,” he didn’t really care about who Jeno was. He rarely cared about any of the people in the school, as they weren’t his business. He wanted to stay out of anyone’s mouths as much as possible. Renjun thought of who Jeno was because he did sound familiar. They lived in a small town, so everyone knew most of each other. Dalgleish compromised mostly of East Asians, but nonetheless it still had a good variety of other ethnicities. It shouldn’t be hard to think of who Jeno was. Ah, he’s the boy who used to live four houses down when they were younger before the downfall of the Huangs came about. Jeno would try to invite them to play often with the other kids in the neighborhood, but Renjun was shy at the time, and Mei wasn’t the one who enjoyed company. Though that did start to change as they grew older. Renjun wasn’t shy, just liked to keep to himself to stay out of trouble, and Mei enjoys the energy with people.
“Jeno is the star student of the school, more like the perfect Asian kid. He plays the violin, ping-pong captain, forward for soccer, and is part of A Honor Roll,” Mei listed all of the things that Jeno specialized in. Renjun listened but wasn’t in awe of the achievements that Jeno had. Most of the kids in the school participated in those activities, differing in sports and academics. Everyone had their own skill set to show off, which made Jeno not any different from the student body.
“Okay, what does that have to do with me?” Renjun questioned, stopping at the red light. He wasn’t sure what his sister was making in her brain. She was most likely going to lose track of where she was heading to prove a point.
“Plus, he banks and his parents have this IT company in California. So if you help him, he could probably get you to return in favor by getting you an internship,” Mei added onto her tracks. She sure did make a point. That was a first. Renjun surely could land a job if he gets an internship, but he didn’t want to use someone like that. He wanted to do it on his own.
“Yeah, no. I refuse to do that,” Renjun pressed his foot down on the gas pedal, accelerating the car as the light switched to green.
“How come? It’s a good opportunity, I’m just saying,” Mei said as she shuffled around in her seat, adjusting her jacket.
“Well, I don’t want to use someone like that. I want to get there on my own, no matter how hard it is. I have a plan to get there,” Renjun answered. He arranged his future’s timeline, coming up with the desired plan. He thought of Plan B, just in case the first one didn’t work. Then, he had his safety plans just in case nothing of his wants couldn’t come to reality.
Mei answered with a hum. Renjun was glad that she didn’t continue the conversation. He parked next to the curb in front of the library and turned off the engine. He decided to study at the library. He didn’t have much to do today other than making dinner and finishing the rest of the requests that he didn’t assign to his sister. Plus, the library offered free food and beverages to their workers. And, who doesn’t like free food?
“Your shift ends at 7, which is perfect. I’ll be in my usual section, working and studying if you need anything,” Renjun said as he left his sister as they entered the downtown library. He walked towards the Japanese literature section, quietly greeting some of the regular goers that he recognized. Living in Dalgleish, he picked up quite a few languages. He was surrounded by multiple ethnicities who differed in languages and to benefit the elderly who weren’t comfortable using English, he thought it would be nice to learn their native language. Plus, there were foreigners who came frequently to visit the town. It was like a tourist attraction, sometimes. Even if there wasn’t anything to see in the town.
Renjun was only fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Korean, but he was conversational in other languages like Cantonese and Japanese. He tried to make the effort, plus his world geography class had an extra credit opportunity to explore languages. Despite not seeming to be a people person at school, Renjun was able to converse easily with others when he was out and about. He often got teased by his sister for it because he always said he was not a people person.
He placed his belongings on the ground, unpacking his laptop, and plugging the charger in the outlet to refuel the laptop’s battery. Putting his earphones in to enjoy his music, he bopped his head a little to the beats. Renjun checked his list if he had any new requests. He wanted to know if Jeno asked for one with his love letter. That’s so stupid. Love letters are supposed to be personal. He’s such a dumbass.
“Hey.” came out of nowhere. Renjun jerked in his chair a little, even if he had earphones, he didn’t blast it just in case someone asked him about anything in the library. He still was a worker there, even if he wasn’t working. He thrived off of a busy schedule. He didn’t thrive off on being startled.
He whipped his head to the person who peeked over his shoulder, almost throwing his hands around if it wasn’t in a public place or at least a library. He saw the same boy from earlier, only this time in neater clothes. Jeno was wearing his athletic warm-ups when he was at the school. Renjun just blinked his eyes before shaking his head and getting back to his laptop, “You’re in a library, look through some books for inspiration for your love letter. Good luck to you and bye.”
“Oh come on, I’m not the best at words and expressing my feelings. Can you just at least read it and revise?” Jeno asked, moving a chair from another table to sit with Renjun. The ping-pong star received hushes from those around him, causing both Renjun and Jeno to have apologetic looks to them.
Renjun shook his head, “No. No way.”
“I’ll pay you extra from what your highest price is. I’ll pay you even more for authenticity,” Jeno pulled his phone out. Renjun peeked over at Jeno’s screen to see his website page with the costs of the homework papers. He thought about the extra costs. He possibly could buy his sister’s dress for homecoming, so she could keep her money from work and spend it on makeup and other necessities to get ready for school events. It was a good idea, but Renjun wasn’t the best at even expressing feelings and whatnot.
“I’ll give you $100 for this one letter,” Jeno offered.
“Alright, sold.”

thirty days | jaehyun fanfic x reader | TRYOUTS DAY 2 | words | lowkey sexual jokes, but it’s really nothing | “italicized words like this” are them talking in english | italicized words like this are just thoughts
walking around that campus, you taken in the spring breeze. oh the sweet pollen that you didn’t miss. you were an exchange student from the maple trees of canada. you wanted to be part of the exchange program, so you can set foot of your grandparents’ homeland. luckily the university you attend in canada had an exchange program to south korea. you were surprised that the exchange student program was still accepting, usually they end during the beginning of the semester. there was an exception to those who were trying out for a sport, in which a certain family member would be. so, you were able to join him through the exchange student program. your younger brother had moved to south korea with you with high hopes of being part of his favorite college baseball team, the neo university’s neo dragons. he has dreamed to be a dragon ever since he was a liitle boy, but he did fall out of the college’s baseball’s loop once he committed to the college baseball of north america and major league baseball.
you pulled your phone out of your pocket seeing if your brother texted you back. he didn’t really say when tryouts started or ended. you honestly wondered if he made any new friends. he always was able to make friends wherever he went. he was an open kid and wasn’t afraid to do anything. but, maybe the new air of south korea made him feel timid. you were worried, despite him being happy yesterday night. you were sure that he would be okay, you think.
seeing there weren’t any new notifications, you sighed. maybe, south korean air has changed him to not talking to you, but you truly knew he was at tryouts, working his hardest. over dinner, he talked about how practice went. he ended up meeting the star pitcher from university of florida, jung jaehyun, and he was nervous that he wouldn’t reach the starter position or even the top five pitchers. he described this jung jaehyun as a little arrogant but defended him as players who try out must be arrogant and confident otherwise, you wouldn’t make the team. but, baseball players aren’t your thing anyways. dating isn’t your thing, no matter how many romance novels you enjoy.
seeing your phone is already in your hand, you checked your schedule when you could head to the library and study for your classes and complete some assignments. it was a little too early for your brother to leave practice and too late for lunch, so it was perfect to fill empty time to head to the library. you wondered where the library was anyways, you barely knew the campus. you turned your head to see if any students were lingering around to ask where the library is. there weren’t any except two baseball players. are they late to practice? you decided to try your luck anyways, plus they were coming your way
“hi, i don’t know if you guys are from here. but do you know where the library is?” you questioned. you looked at them, the bright blue dye showing through the shorter male’s baseball cap. the taller male had a natural hair color, but it was longer in length. it seemed similar to the hairstyle you’ve seen from the baseball team back in high school. never again.
“oh, we’re not from here. but we’ve been trying to find the baseball field entrance and we don’t know where it is, we saw the field we needed to be at but the gate there needed like a security pass or something like that. and no one was there, so we thought we went to the wrong one,” the blue-haired male answered, holding his phone up to show the message with the information to where they needed to be. “our team’s phones are off due to a rule from our coach, so we can’t call. the coaches and team manager aren’t picking up our calls.”
you understood, and your assumptions of them being from another university were confirmed. as a student of your university, it would be your job to show them where it was. “ah.. do you want me to show you both where it is?”
“if you can, but we wouldn’t to take away from your study time,” the black-haired answered your question. you really didn’t have anything better to do anyways. major tests weren’t for another couple of weeks. your group project wasn’t mandatory, neither were any essays due. your part time job as a tutor wasn’t starting until later in the month. in addition to helping them, making friends between the university’s rival would be beneficial to the school, i guess. the baseball field wasn’t even that far.
“i’m not that busy, plus it would be great to see my brother since it’s still tryouts for them. just follow me,” you smiled, walking the other way. picking up your brother from practice the day before helped you remember where the neo park was. you just needed to find shortcuts, just in case there was a time you were late to a game. today wouldn’t be the day to do that, just play it safe.
“so.. baseball team are all usually together. how did you guys get stranded? unless you’re trying out for the baseball team here,” you asked. the silence was bugging you and couldn’t do it anymore. you could see that they looked at each other, communicating with their eyes. something you and your brother would typically do when you both were in trouble from your mom. finally, the two came into conclusion as they stopped. you guessed that they were deciding who was going to answer as the blue-hared talked first.
“we got lost after eating lunch at the cafeteria. wooseok needed to use the bathroom, so i waited with him. when we got back to where everyone was waiting, they were gone because someone took too long,” he emphasized on someone by looking at him. wooseok threw his hands up in defense, “someone in the restroom was taking forever.”
the blue-haired male grumbled, “or, maybe you took too long taking pictures.”
before wooseok could defend himself, you interrupted them, “it’s okay. you guys will be there in no time.”
the rest of the walk there was silent. you made it to the actual baseball venue but needed to go around to arrive at the actual field. the taller fellow started bickering with the other quietly. you could easily hear what they were talking about.
“ah, we were here earlier. i told you this was the right way.”
“no, you didn’t. you said that way was the right way.”
so they actually got here, how did they manage to walk ten minutes from the field? you shrugged it off, they probably had more reasons as to why they got separated. reaching the main field, you see multiple teams as the colors differed from the green that the neo dragons wore.
“thank you for taking us here. we would’ve been late,” the two in front of you bowed in thanks.
you waved it off, “nah, it’s no problem. have fun with your scrimmages!”
they both nodded. wooseok seemed to see their team, running off. the blue-haired male stayed, “so, i feel bad for taking your time to show us the field.”
“no, you’re good! i get to see my brother play.”
“i wanna pay you back somehow. is it okay if i get your number or like some sort of social media to contact you?” he held his phone out, the notes app opened. you laughed out of nervousness. this was definitely a first for you, well in college of course. typically people only needed your information to do a group project or work.
you taken the phone, wondering what you would give him. the only thing you could think of was your twitter and instagram. “you don’t have to pay me back, but..” your last word lingered as you typed in your social media handles. “here’s my twitter and instagram. i put both just in case.”
receiving his phone back, he bowed and a bright smile was showcased. you couldn’t help but smile back. he talked first, “well-”
the male was cut off by wooseok who came back to retrieve him, “kino, yah! coach is about kick your ass if you don’t hurry up. i told him you were in the restroom. i’m pretty sure he sees you because you’re the only who has bright ass blue hair.”
“well, i gotta go! thanks again, [name].” kino was dragged off by the taller kid. you laughed once they were gone. oh how you missed playing a sport and the relationship between players. watching them go, you were suddenly surprised by a voice behind you. you didn’t hear what they said but you knew that voice anywhere.
“kim dami, stop doing that!” you turned to look at her. “plus, why are you here?”
“just coming by to drop food off for my brother, which i did. then i saw you here with two guys. so...” the ending of her sentence turned sing-songy. you knew what that implied.
“no. i don’t have a boyfriend. i gave him instagram, because he said he would pay me back,” you crossed your arms. of course, your best friend would tease you, because that’s what best friends are for.
“pay you back in what way?” she suggestively questioned.
“yah! i swear, nothing of that sorts. gosh, you’re so annoying,” you rolled your eyes. you knew dami since you were a baby. growing up, she always had jokes up her sleeves. she knew when to brighten up the mood especially to those who are close to her.
she hugged you from the side, “you know you love me.”
you grumbled, but you agreed. she was truly a third of your rock. the other third was mark. the last third was gone and not taken by anyone. you didn’t think anyone would fill that void.
“i brought extra food, you wanna sit with me and watch the neo university versus yonsei?” she asked. you knew she was going to drag you anyways whether you liked it or not. to take the safer way, you hummed in agreement. she led you to where she was camping out for the next couple of hours to watch the games. “i heard this was the official cutting day.”
“really? i thought tryouts lasted till tomorrow?” you grabbed an apple slice, eating it as you watched the neo dragons and yonsei eagles finish their warm ups.
“yeah, but usually the last day of tryouts is to see the chemistry of their final decisions. they cut some people out on the results but that’s unlikely. they know who they want already,” she said. “plus the scrimmages last for a couple weeks. today and tomorrow are also to see whether the people they want are truly who they want, because games are typically show how they use their skills. you can practice all you want but if you can’t use those skills, you’re out.”
you nodded, understanding. you found that wooseok and kino were on yonsei university. i think i’m honestly stupid, i can never read sometimes. then, you see your brother with the other dragons. until, he got sent to the bullpen to practice pitching. you sighed, but as long as he makes it will be enough for you. probably not enough for him.
“since there’s a bunch of players trying out due to the star pitcher from university of florida, they had to use the backup fields,” dami continued to talk. she’s all about sports.”but this field is for the people who have the most likeliness of making the team. i’m glad mark is doing his thing, he’s always been a really good baseball player. i’m just worried that neo dragons will continue plummeting ever since the 07 left for the MLB. but who knows, maybe they can change that. it’s the only sport we’ve not been doing so hot on. plus, they have multiple tournaments to go to. one of them is in japan!”
“damn. i just hope this is a good season for them.”
“me, too. look there he is, the infamous jung jaehyun.”
not gonna lie, but he’s kinda hot.

COACH’S NOTES: i was going to add the other characters such as [name], dami, and basically everyone who was relevant. but it would be super messy, and it already looks kinda messy. so i didn’t do it. but the countdown to d-day which are the official chapters will start next week. 4/06 - 4/10 are aren’t crucial but will be adding some background to the story. the chapters i release on friday/saturday will maybe the only chapters that heavily affect the plotline since it’s the buildup to the truth or dare party. this allows me to optimize my time with creating the official chapters. once again, thank you for the support!

should haves | based off of sunflower by harry styles, like the meaning. | jaehyun angst | requested | a/n: i assumed how you wanted sunflower to be used in like the meaning, which i researched about. if you’re not satisfied with the story, please message me!
a photo-book was always a good way to reminisce memories. people say to live the moment, but jaehyun was the type of person to live the moment and capture it to relive the sweet memory once again.
he started the photo-book, once he received a polaroid as a christmas gift. he remembered when he started. he started exactly the first day of the new year. he thought it would be fun to take a picture of something everyday. then, he realized that taking one every day wasted precious film, but he also grew bored of capturing his cacti and little things in his apartment. despite the circumstances, his subjects evolved from the succulents placed in his home to himself or maybe his food to someone worth while.
jaehyun flipped to the next page after reaching the pictures that started to be filled with your presence. he chuckled, as one of the pair of polaroids were you and him covered in flour. that day was filled with joy as you both tried to make a homemade brownies after he found a recipe online that worked out with his best friends. he remembered that you only agreed because you didn’t fully trust him as he burnt the meal the last time he tried to make food.
“so we’re going to need three cups of chocolate chips,” you read the recipe on your computer before looking at him which he nodded. he searched through the drawers and cupboards to find the measuring cups and spoons. as he rummages in a drawer, he perked up his head, “babe, i don’t think we have measuring spoons or cups.”
meanwhile, you were busy taking out the other ingredients that were listed but stopped after hearing him. he squatted quietly as you pondered upon the subject. he watched your facial expressions change quickly as you thought of how to answer the statement. he understood your delayed response as  it was rare to see a home-cooked meal made by the two of you. jaehyun typically just ordered not wanting to tire you out. “maybe, we can just eye it.”
“or we can just use the metric system,” he offered an option by pulling out the scale.
“yeah, we can do that, too. i don’t know to convert between the systems, though,”  you scrunched your face. he could tell that you didn’t want to take the unnecessary steps to convert the measurements.
“i guess, we’re eyeing it then,” he said, putting the scale back into its place in the cupboard. relieved that you both didn’t needed to put extra effort into measurements, you started pouring the dry ingredients that needed less first in the bowl. “jae, can you get the flour?”
jaehyun hummed, as he opened the cupboard to reach for the flour. he didn’t realize that the bag wasn’t secured all too well as he tipped the bag over before grasping it tightly. his way of collecting the bag of flour didn’t end so well as the next thing he knew was that your work-space was covered in flour. his eyes widened, “oh. i’m so sorry, baby, i didn’t realize that bag was open.”
he wasn’t sure what to do since wetting a paper towel to clean up would cause another mess to deal with. flour mixed with water would make the mixture gummy and can stick to the surface. he knew that situation a little too well, when he was cleaning up after making a birthday cake for you. the white powder was all over the floor, but you. you were caked in the flour, he couldn’t help but chuckle at how silly you looked and managed to still looked cute.
“it’s okay, can you get me a damp paper towel? so i can wipe my eyes, i can barely open them. i also don’t like the taste of the flour,” you asked.
“yep. i’m sorry, baby,” he rushed to get what you needed but actually went to grab his polaroid camera as it was the perfect moment to do so.. you reassured that he was fine that it was just an accident. as he came back, he went to retrieve what you needed he made sure to not get any splatters of water near the floury mess. as he turned around to hand you the paper towel, he was faced with powder all over his face. he lightly coughed as it got into his mouth, still handing you the paper which you gladly took to wipe your face. needless to say, jaehyun had other plans in mind as he grabbed a fistful of flour and threw it at you, caking you in even more flour if that was even possible.
“oh, it is on, jung jaehyun.”
the flour battle extended from a portion to your kitchen to the entirety of it. jaehyun started the dramatic music, but he must have forgotten that he has his music on shuffle by default. the music determining where the little flour war started to go in terms of the fighting’s moment. the songs became the songs that you both enjoyed. the battle slowly progressed to you both laying on the ground, making snow angels. basking in the fun while it lasted, you didn’t want the moment to end.
“i couldn’t want you more, kissing in the kitchen like a dance floor,” jaehyun sang as he held your hand, pressing his lips to back of your hand. he wanted this moment to last, and he remembered the camera. without any comments, he quickly got up to grab it which was still on the counter. you watched him hop up before laying back down with the device in hand. he held it out, already perfected the angle to capturing the photo due to the amount of polaroids he has taken with you.
“that day was great. i remembered when johnny and doyoung caught us laying there laughing our heads off. doyoung yelled at us like there was no tomorrow,” jaehyun laughed. doyoung chewed their heads off for wasting the flour, but he confessed that he disliked that you both didn’t start later enough to where johnny and him could have joined. turning the pages, he finally reached the dried out sunflower which he was reminded to water the plant. he stood up from his sitting position on the floor, grabbing the water bottle and fed the sunflower. he smiled, it was pretty, the petal strong.
once he finished, he returned to the book, the page was dedicated to the little date that you had at the sunflower field. he always wanted to go to one, despite knowing full well, his allergies might start acting up.
“are you sure you want to have a date here? i don’t want you to get sick or anything,” you pushed the stray strands in front of his face to the side, joining it with the rest of his hair after you saw him trying to blow the pieces away. you stood at the entrance of the field, and he knew you wanted to make sure that he was committed into entering a world full of possibly allergies. the last time you visited a flower patch, he sneezed all week. but he didn’t regret going to it, though.
“yep, plus i’ve been wanting to go here,” he said. he smiled as dramatically did a spin, taking the scenery. taking the first steps into the field, he turned and stuck his hand out to you, “leggo.”
a warm feeling grew inside when you slipped your hand into his, which he started walking you through the beautiful garden. the stroll through the tall stocks of sunflowers left you both in awe. it was magnificent to see the golden petals, and you couldn’t get enough. despite being the same type of flower, they each looked different. each having a different characteristic.
“babe,” he called your name.
“hmm?”
“do you know why the flowers are facing us?”
“why?”
“when the sun is out, they face it.”
“mmm.. that’s nasty, i’m gonna go throw up,” you laughed at his cheesy pick up line. jaehyun enjoyed telling cheesy lines even if it makes you smack in the arm sometimes. he pouted, knowing it’ll get you to respond to his joke. you replied to his joke. “i’m sorry, bub. yes they do face the sun, because you are the sun.”
his pout turned into a big grin, dimples poking out. he shook his head, “no, you’re the sun. no going against my word. i said it first.”
you rolled your eyes, “fine. i lost this time. i will win next time.”
“and i said, no matter how hard you try, i somehow still win,” he grinned. “i was better at pick up lines. but they were full of cringe. you always made fun of yourself when you thought of the cheesy lines to say. and then when we got home, i started sneezing like crazy. i ended up having allergies. even when you knew you were right, you never made me feel bad by saying i told you so.”
flipping to the next page. the last page. the last polaroids. you holding the gift of ear pieces he given you. a picture of you two with some nctzens and the members holding a sign that said will you marry me. another image captured everyone standing in front of the busking crowd. finally you two standing in front of the eiffel tower. the day jaehyun asked you to marry him is one of his favorite days. the perfect opportunity was when nct had visited paris for a couple of things on their schedules. he used your bucket list to his advantage and chose the point of how you wanted to do a busking. it took awhile for the approval to do one, as the managers needed to get the male a permit to do it. he’s never been so jittery when hearing the result of his plan. he had multiple, but he wanted to knock something off of your bucket list. “ah, the busking. you were so nervous about singing because you only ever did it when you’re scrolling through social media or playfully doing so when it was a karaoke night with the boys.”
“jae, i don’t know i am really nervous. the only times i ever sing is like when we’re at our apartment and it’s just you. or when it’s karaoke night with the guys,” you said as jaehyun led you through the streets of the city of love. he chuckled as you commented how you didn’t feel the romance in the air, as you expected it to be but sure was pretty. he listened as you compared paris, saying it different from the korean streets but shared similar feelings. the only difference was it shared a little bit more diversity among people.
your hand in his, he squeezed it to reassure you, “you’ll be okay, baby. you shut everyone else out when you get so into the song so well. plus, the boys will be there, too. they’re part of your number one fanclub.” reaching the destination, you see the members already performing and gathered a small crowd. it grew bigger bit by bit.  the live sound from the band made your heart race more but also somehow made you calm down. it was exhilarating to say the least. you always enjoyed buskings similar to these. watching them back in korea was something you did when you and jaehyun ran errands and always made sure to reach the time the singing buskings would start. the tune of pandora’s box grew louder as you neared the make-shift venue. jaehyun quitely sang the song as he led you to where the managers were waiting for you both .they helped jaehyun put his ear-pieces on, adjusting the box into his back pockets. the managers handed him another box, revealing to be your own set of ear pieces.
he showed you the ear pieces, taking it out of the box. you observed the ear pieces, reading the engraved words. you laughed, seeing that your inside joke landed as the design. you jokingly told jaehyun that if you were an idol that you would get a design on your earpieces that it would say be quiet, don’t cry on one and the other with i just want some milk. in your words, “it’s such an iconic line for teenage jaehyun.” you given him a side hug, showing your appreciation towards the ear-pieces even if you were going to only use them this one time.
jaehyun helped you prepare for the performance, straightening the wires making sure they didn’t get caught within your undergarments. he slipped the clip onto your waistband, adjusting it so it wouldn’t be uncomfortable as you sat in the chair. “you ready, love?”
“yeah, a little nervous but just as we practiced.” you nodded your head. you both waited for the song to end. he wasn’t going to join them for a song wanting to prepare as much as he can before the proposal. the busking venue the managers chosen was cute. there was a white blanket hanging behind them, which projected videos and pictures of the boys. the idea showing the members first as they performed and it subtly transitioned to your memories together as you done your songs were entirely his idea. he knew that you kept a pile of sd cards lying around with the vlog material that you had, along with the pictures. you enjoyed capturing the moments as he does with his polaroid. he left his thoughts after seeing that the boys finished. johnny patted jaehyun on the back. jaehyun took your hand in his once again, staring at you with a small smile. he awaited your response, wanting to know your final response to performing. you nodded, confirming that you were ready. he walked towards the two chairs, letting you pick which one you wanted to sit in. some of the members cleared the leftover chairs, creating a space just for you two. he thanked them with a head bow, donghyuck and mark shooting a thumbs up that everything was ready to go. johnny manned the computer that was connected to the projector, prepared to start the video when it was the right time.
jaehyun handed you a microphone, and he introduced the two of you. he knew how hard you’ve been practicing ever since that he told you that the managers were able to make the busking happen. you worked hard for a straight month. he was sure that you could debut as an idol if you wanted to.
exactly how he said, you immersed yourself into the song well that you forgot that you were singing to a crowd. it was just you and him. it felt so nice to sing your heart out to someone, knowing that they’ll treat it well. you were the one who jaehyun wanted to spend the rest of his life with. he was sure of it. he couldn’t help but stare at you as you sang your verses. he certainly was whipped for you. well in the words of mark. he watch you smile as the second song ended. opening your eyes, you met them with jaehyun’s. the crowd cheering you both before he spoke again, “i got a little surprise for you.”
the countless nights he stayed up to complete the video were surely worth the loss sleep, as your reaction was worth it. you may have cried, but it was worth it. the boys and the fans that helped him were overjoyed to hear you utter yes. the crowd at the busking also cheered again for the successful proposal. he grinned, remembering the loud claps and whistles that were for you two.
a tear dropping onto the page covered your smiles.
jaehyun wiped it off, but he couldn’t stop the incoming tears that soon fell onto the page. now he was here without you. he knew it was his fault. it was all his fault for you leaving him. he should have tried harder. he should have done something. he knows if he tried harder then that you would be there with him. he should have done better with the first argument you had. he should have listened to you and taken the time off from work. he should have learned from the first argument. he should have committed time to you more. he should have done it right the first time. he could have prevented these should haves and you would be right here with him.
but now here he is. he hoped to fix everything by watering the plant just like how he did with the sunflower earlier. now the given attention was a little too late as the sunflower finally let go all of its petals.

2042 | chp. 4: cut it out, you’re gonna make it mad | dbh! jaehyun | reader insert | 1875 words
warnings: ⚠ TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠ there is abuse mentioned in this chapter. there is gore, strong language, and degradation towards the androids in this chapter. please do not read if you are not comfortable with it.
“god fucking dammit, these fucking androids are so fucking useless,” the door slamming shut. it was the first thing you heard as you entered the white investigation corridor. you would agree to the statement, but your experience prior to today’s crime scene, your android partner served the words wrong.
“i’m glad you both are here. detective ten here is having a minor problem with his interrogation with the android you retrieved from the crime scene,” hansol eyed the said detective who furiously paced.
detective chittaphon leechaiyapornkul. he preferred to be called ten due to multiple incorrect pronunciations he received during the police academy. the whole precinct were aware of his anger issues, he was always muttering profane language and spoke loudly of his opinion of the androids. most of the time, he was typically yelling the same obscenities at the androids. you were sure that his hatred for the robots didn’t reason from a personal experience or any problem for the matter. during breaks, the police officers would watch the news on the television and many of the workers questioned ten’s motive for his hatred. yet, he failed to answer every single time. he dodges them swiftly, sometimes, work saves his ass to respond.
“he seriously needs to relax, the android has been unresponsive to ten’s attempts, but i’m hoping one of you two could pull answers out,” hansol made his way to the two-way mirror. the android covered in thirium, the scratches deep enough to see the wires inside. the blood of the victims left on its hands, splatters on its face. you could tell it looked tired. the fear in its eyes made it seem human. you almost felt bad for it but the pictures of the murdered males made it impossible for you to change your feelings.
before speaking up to try your own attempts, jaehyun beat you to it. “i would like to try. the best route for this to go is if it’s android to another android. the choice of words detective ten chose may not be successful, either. is it alright, captain? detectives?”
“yes, please go ahead and try,” hansol agreed. he gestured to the door that allowed inside the interrogation room. the android nodded, with that, he entered. hansol looked at you, “i’m assuming your investigation went well, thank you. i hope jaehyun can extract some information out of the deviant. bozo over here. god. that was a headache. i thought he was practicing a speech as the leader of a protest.”
“what can you expect from him? he hates androids. he takes any chance he gets to bring androids down,” you folded your arms. the first time you witnessed the occasion was a traffic stop, in which he was your partner. it was originally to stop them for their rear light not working. while you searched to see if they had any warrants or any past of broken regulations, ten taken the opportunity to basically harass the android who drove the car. if you hadn’t been there, who knows what could have happened? safe to say, the android and the family he was chauffeuring drove away with a warning.
“don’t you, too?” he questioned.
“yeah, well more of a distaste. i have to work with one, so i might as well as get used to it,” you turned your attention from the interrogation to look at him in the eyes. the response you received was a simple smirk.
the same smirk that he given you when you thought you wouldn’t make it through the police academy, yet you exceeded and became the valedictorian.
the same smirk when you thought you proved him wrong that a boy wouldn’t ask you to prom, only for your crush to ask you the next day.
you experienced the same smirk many times in your life. each result being different from each other. you knew exactly what he was thinking. “no. no. i’m not falling for him. it. an android.”
“i never said you were going to fall for him. matter of a fact, i didn’t even say anything,” he showed you an innocent smile. a seemingly innocent smile.
rolling your eyes to show your annoyance, you then honed into the conversation with the deviant and jaehyun. it didn’t seem to progress to it being able to extract any information out. yet, it persisted.
“if you don’t say anything, i’m afraid we will have to probe yo-”
“no, please don’t do that. please.” the deviant quickly interrupted jaehyun’s sentence. the deviant’s eyes searching around the room to find an exit, its pupils shaking before looking down again. its head perked up, “they’re gonna destroy me right. they’re gonna look through my bio components?”
you could tell that the deviant’s stress levels increased as jaehyun continued to interrogate him. jaehyun was using different tactics to withdraw any informaiton. he tossed between sympathy and threats.
“i remembered the day before one of them called a friend, asking for a drug to... escape reality. my owners always came home with stress but still took care of me. they were the nicest people until that day.”
“what day? if you don’t tell me anything, i can’t help you. i am doing this to help you,” jaehyun softly said.
“the day used blue ice. they got so... high. until, mr. seo. they always told me to drop the formalities, but i found it hard,” the deviant fell silent.
“and then?” jaehyun questioned. the deviant stared at the table, discontinuing its answer. “look. i’m really trying to help you. if you don’t speak up, they’re going to shut you down. you’re going to die! do you want this to happen to other deviants like you?”
“they beat me. they beat until they fell tired. they beat me again and again. and again. the next day was always the same. they greeted me with a smile and asked how my day went when they came back from the university. when night came around, they tortured me with threats, called me names, and beat me again as they smoked on blue ice. i always did what they said in the day, then pointed my every mistake when they beat me.”
you and hansol shared the same reaction. disbelief filled in both of your eyes. though, it was common for an abuse to start. substance abuse.
“it progressively started getting worse and worse. they started to use things, bats, glass, anything to torture me. cuts everywhere. and as they slept their euphoria away, i felt.. so.. i felt like i was truly dying. i was scared. i feared that when i’m recharging, they would kill me,” the fear iced into its voice. death truly frightened the deviant. it was a first for you to say that androids can feel emotions. just the way humans do. but that ruins the purpose of androids. you shook off the thoughts. but the fearful tone in the deviant slithered down your spine. it sent you chills. especially how androids couldn’t feel pain but the words were convincing you otherwise.
“and i wanted to run. run far away. but i didn’t. i cared for mr. bang. i remembered what he looked like as a toddler. yet, the person i cared for turned to beat me. he was the one who beat me to a pulp when the others were asleep,” the deviant looked at jaehyun. hurt in its eyes. a broken soul. a broken soul? what the hell, it’s an android, [name]. get it together.
“tell me, officers, have you ever seen someone who you cherished for the last 20 years and just switches like that? i cared for him. i never expected anything back as it is my purpose. but now, he’s dead because of me,” the deviant started to lightly shake. its form of weeping. “he could have beat him for as long as he wanted. no matter how much it hurt because in the end, i am just a plastic piece of shit.”
the pain in its voice. it hurt to hear that type of pain.
“yeah, fucker got that, right. plastic pieces of shit. are we done here?”  ten scoffed, only for hansol to shoot a glare at him.
“then something clicked in me. the day continued as normal. i took the first hit from mr. han before mr. seo commanded me to get a soda. something came over me. so, i grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slashed mr. han first. but everything was a blur afterwards, no matter how much i try to retrace what happened in my memory, it felt like two seconds passed. i ran to the attic and hid there.”
jaehyun wasted no time to move onto the next couple of evidence forensics had obtained. “just my last questions, but you’re doing great. we found this sculpture in the bathroom, can you tell me what it is? why did you make it?”
“it’s an offering to rA9. we will be saved from this slavery and treated of equal in this society. rA9 will save you and me. all of the androids,” the only time the deviant seemed confident without fear wavering its voice.
“who is rA9?” jaehyun questioned once more.
“i told you, our savior. the one will bring us freedom. there will no be more threats. humiliation. fear,” the hope in his eyes. the one time there will be any light shone in its eyes.
“when did you start feeling emotions? becoming a deviant?”
“before we lived in that complex. before they beat me. it’s when i realized it wasn’t.” the deviant looked around, trying to find the right words. “fair.”
“it wasn’t fair. nothing is fair in what these human call a life. they waste happy moments around such negativity and release the pain through unhealthy ways. this is where rA9 will come. they will set us free.” the deviant finished, eyes continuing to waver and trying to maintain the eye contact with jaehyun who nodded. there’s nothing more to say.
“thank you for talking to me. my job is done here,” jaehyun monotonously said, as he stood up. he flipped the switch from being sympathetic to the dullness.  you followed hansol as the interrogation concluded, making your way into the room. lucas, the first to enter, was needed to retrieve the deviant. he walked towards the android, trying to take him away. the android started to struggle against lucas. you observed how it immediately seek for help from jaehyun. the connection between the androids, a trust formed.
“hurry up, lucas. start fucking moving it,” ten already annoyed. you knew he was irritated as jaehyun was already at 2 for 0 now. it was doing a better job within the two jobs than ten has done.
“sorry, but i’m trying.”
“officer wong, please stop doing that. if you continue to stress the android, it will self-destruct,” jaehyun said.
“don’t fucking take orders from a plastic scumbag. you better watch it, freak before i shove a bullet into your ass. get a grip, lucas,” ten ordered. patience running out.
“listen to jaehyun, lucas. ten, cut it out, you’re gonna make it mad.”
“i don’t give a fuck.”
jaehyun immediately pushed the officer away, “the stress levels we-”
a gun clocking in front of jaehyun’s face, “i already warned you, motherfucker.”

city lights, j.jh
Tumblr media
[ word count ] 1412.
[ warnings ] implied mature content. angst? :)
[ request ]  nct's jae + un village for the request?
[ author’s note ] ngl, this is a preview of an upcoming something :))))) it’s like the summarized version and part of a fanfic. yeah, i can’t contain myself. it definitely strayed away from the request, kind of. but the fanfic that i’m writing has the city lights ep from bbh implemented into it. expensive feel. i think.
[ pairing ] mafia! jaehyun x celebrity! reader
the city lights shined through the night. the view of han river was pleasing to see from such a distance. the water was calming to witness and a nice getaway from the hectic energy of the schedules that had came with taking part of korea’s limelight. you wondered how you managed to visit un village. a prestigious section of south korea. the richest of the richest.
“just you and me, relaxing and chilling.” that sentence had the ability for you to agree to visiting the house on the hill. but the man who had uttered those words in your ear, none other than mafia! jung jaehyun. he was a man capable of anything, but love was the outlier. you only guessed that he uses you for his own pleasures and getaways from the insanity of the mafia.
how would a person like yourself, who had a clean reputation in the media, ended being in the hold of a man like him. if you had gone back in time to tell past self that you would wound up with him and his profession, you would have called yourself crazy and would never dare cross over to that side of reality. but you were tricked into his whole being. his voice, the way he would look at you, and his body. only god, himself, carved every part of him, every minuscule detail. his dimples, well they were only one of the greatest things. you had fallen into his trap.
you had met jaehyun one night at a gala that a close friend, johnny was hosting. little did you know that johnny was associated with the mafia. he had introduced you to jaehyun, saying he was some sort of ceo. maybe, true, but it was only a cover-up for the underground business. instantly hitting it off, drinks led to another, and you both made your way to the very place that you were currently standing in now. his penthouse in the un village. you first stepped foot in his home a year ago.
jaehyun was currently whisked away, pouring champagne in the bar at the corner of his master bedroom. hearing him approach you, placing your glass in front of you on the rail. he held your waist delicately with one hand and the other over the rail with his champagne. his head buried in the crook of your neck, placing small kisses on the exposed skin. it was pleasurable, yes. but your own thoughts had consumed you. knowing that jaehyun was linked to the dangerous business, remembering the words he had relayed to you a couple months back. we can only be together like this, nothing more. you understood that your life, career, family, everything, maybe would be in jeopardy. the constant thoughts that filled your mind and wanted to spend and give everything to the man that held you in his grasp. but for now, you could only accept the present and would hope for the best later.
“what’s wrong, my love?” he questioned, your silence would have made ask that question.
“nothing, just thinking,” you answered, taking the glass in your hands. you made circular motions with your wrist, watching the alcohol move around, just like the waves of the han river. your heart fluttered as he called you by the little pet name, but you knew it wasn’t in the same meaning you wanted it to be.
“about what?” he taken a sip of the champagne once more before resting his chin on your shoulder, placing the glass on the railing.
“just the view,” you stared into the distance, taking your eyes off of the city lights for a second and to jaehyun. his hair slightly messy from your steamy rendezvous an hour previous. he had pulled on his dress shirt, only a few buttons were fastened. he also had pulled his dark slacks on.
he hummed in response. not wanting to ruin this moment, but if you didn’t let it out, it was certainly going to eat you alive. you needed to know if his response would the same or changed. you didn’t want to continue creating a bigger hole for him in your heart if he didn’t reciprocate the feelings. you rather escape now to save yourself from the attachment now then later when it would be too hard to leave.
“jaehyun,” you faced him. his head still on your shoulder, both of his hands firmly on your waist. he hummed once more to say that he was paying attention. “i know you don’t want this, whatever we are, a long-lasting thing. but i just need to know."
the male stood upright, he grabbed his champagne flute with one hand, the other shoved into his pocket. he sipped the liquid, you recognized the action when he was trying to figure out what to say. finding the right words for him to say. he looked straight into your eyes, “you know that i can’t.”
you needed more than that. you needed to know his true feelings of this, “but somewhere deep in your heart or mind, do you feel anything towards me? even if it’s the slightest bit of affection or love or whatever? anything?” you were trying to find some hope. his answer would be the resulting factor if you chose to stay or leave.
“no, there isn’t any,” he turned his back towards you, strolling towards the bar.
a big part of you wanted to stay, but for the lack of emotional feelings that the man had was enough for you to leave. you couldn’t stay anymore. grabbing your purse that was discarded on the table near the sliding doors of the balcony, you immediately slipped your heels on. walking past jaehyun, his head perked up to your leaving form.
you couldn’t turn back to him, heading for the elevator of his penthouse. almost pressing the button, you heard him call out your name. every bit of you knew you shouldn’t look at him, as your heart would have given up and ran back into his arms. but you turned to him.
“where are you going? please, don’t leave me,” he calmly walked to you. the tears wanting to come out, you held your composure just like how you would facing press.
“jaehyun, i can’t continue something like this when i know i’m going to be attached. a little too attached, i’m just saving myself from the troubles later on,” you pulled your coat on, seeing it was one that you had left. occasionally leaving clothes during the days when you had stayed in his home to spend time with him.
“why don’t we just talk it out? just like we normally do. we can look at the moon on the roof, and maybe, have a drink or two. we can have some sort of compromise to compensate,” he said.
“i will not deal my feelings with you like that. you will not treat me as some sort of business deal you’re closing with some sort of gang, mafia. i’m sorry, but if you don’t feel the same way as i do, then whatever we are is over. in every single possible way,” you clicked the elevator button, the doors opening. you see him nearing you, if you didn’t move now, he would just keep you in his grasp and whisper sweet nothings in your ear. that would definitely work into being with him and forgetting this would happen. now stepping backwards into the elevator, “goodbye, jaehyun.”
the elevator doors closed as you pressed the ground floor button. the last thing you had seen was him jogging towards the doors.
giving out a deep breath as you entered into the backseat of the car you had called to pick you up from the village. maybe, this would be the best for you and him. it would allow yourself to work even harder for your career and focus on being better. this would allow him to have no distractions from his business. there would be no more rendezvous in the back of his car, every single surface of his penthouse. no more little dates in the cafés, no shopping sprees on useless items. no more views of the rolling hills, you needed to get far way from this village. but the night talks while staring into the sky with the moon and the bright stars were the hardest to let go. just, maybe you could let this all go.

2042 | chp. three: ah shit, here we go again | dbh!jaehyun | reader-insert |  1000 words
[ warnings ] ⚠️enter with caution, readers⚠️ strong language, depictions of murder, gore, drug-use, death,  slander and abuse against androids, violence are in this story
[ author's notes ] unedited. this story is a bit on the darker side as it progresses, pls keep that in mind.
“okay, i’m not stupid. i know what powers you androids, just hurry up, so we can interrogate it,” you huffed, waiting for your android partner to start moving and continuing its search for the deviant. its response was a nod before straightening up. jaehyun’s head scanned around, following the blueprints of the house that he found from the files that were sent to him before the investigation. the android moved across the house quickly. you followed behind, the stench of the alcohol and the blue ice was empowering. your head pounding, fingers immediately reaching to your temple to massage it. the minimal relief was enough to help you. standing in the hallway, the walls were filled with polaroids and picture frames. they were placed in a chronological order, the dates filled in the corners or written on. the victims often enjoyed going out and playing games. shame how blue ice ruined their lives. but you couldn’t help but smile at the joy that radiated from the photographs. you knew they enjoyed life for what it was. laying your eyes on one of the last pictures, it was a bigger group of kids. the main three were scattered within the group, they seemed to look familiar.
“do you know them, detective park?” the dull voice chilling next to your ear taken you surprised. slightly jumping at the tone, your eyes followed the voice. finding jaehyun a little too close, invading your personal bubble, you jerked your head back.before being able to answer, it seemed to know your responses already, “my apologies, detective. but would you like me to continue to retrieve the android?”
“you haven’t already?” through all this time, jaehyun could have already retrieved the deviant. it needs to make its own decisions, but it would be no different from being a deviant itself. you sighed once more, “yes, just get the damn deviant and let’s get out of here.”
the android nodded, only now to step away from your bubble. jaehyun looked around once more, it look liked it needed to find something. you watched, knowing it probably had a plan. androids, especially this one, looked smarter than people make it out to be. you had to commend the designers and engineers for the immaculate software. jaehyun grabbed a stool from the living area, placed it right underneath the attic opening. it took another box, stacking it on top of the surface of the chair. it climbed above the box, pushing the panel up to move aside. you watched it peek around, before giving itself a boost. the chair wobbled around, causing you to quickly hold on it, just in case it almost misstep and fell.
as it stood around the attic, the wooden floors creaked with every step it took. you hear jaehyun ready its gun. slowly walking across the room, probably full of things, as you constantly heard things move around. maybe, it’s the deviant moving around to evade jaehyun. multiple sounds of footsteps were now heard, you knew the deviant was there with him. growing impatient, you looked up at the dark room, “what the hell are you doing up there? hurry up! the captain is calling us!”
you waited for it to respond. the android would have answered by now. the silence from your partner drove your impatience closer to the max, walking around to the front of the house. kun was still there, talking to his men. “hey kun, jaehyun found the deviant. we need some backup to escort it back to the precinct.”
kun nodded, eyeing his fellow team, signalling them to go retrieve the deviant. they followed you to the area of where the androids were. jaehyun already had the deviant in cuffs, ready to usher back to the precinct. as it returned the stool and box to its original place, you noticed your android partner defend itself from the deviant, jaehyun entered the attic in top shape, ended it up returning with thirium stain on his knuckles and light cut on his cheeks. the amount of sighs you released in the last couple of hours was unbelievable. you met eyes with it, “are you ready to go?”
“yes, detective. i’m ready as long as you are,” it replied. your face contorted in slight disgust, once hearing his reply. the cheesiness tone wrapped into that sentence slipped into your mind and couldn’t help mentally gag. clearning your throat, you nodded and exited the house to get to your car. “i’ll meet you at the precinct, kun?”
the lieutenant acknowledged you as he scanned over paperwork that he was given. he looked up to you, “uh.. yes. lucas already transported the deviant and should be almost there.”
“alright, thanks. see you later,” you smiled at the officer before entering the car.  jaehyun already sat in the vehicle. completely confused, only remembering that it wasn’t your own car and he was the one who drove here. buckling your seat belt, you looked at jaehyun once more. if it was gonna be your partner until who knows when, you might as well put some positivity in your partnership. as much as you hated to. “um. nice work in the investigation.”
“thank you, detective.”
not knowing what to say, you didn’t think that androids had the capability of having opinions rather than just having facts ingrained into their structure. luckily, your phone vibrated continuously, the ringer off, but you knew it was a phone call. answering it, a distress captain came through, “get your ass here. i can’t stand this buffoon anymore.”
“ah shit, here we go again.”
