The old sketch of human (or not?) Valdemar.
Because of their antiquity, I came up a headcanon about their origin. So, what about a country near the great river and with the great pyramids? Many lands of the Arcana world have references from India, Arabic region or Mongolia – so, Ancient Egypt? Why not? I can't decide, maybe this is ancient Zadith? There is nothing about Zadith in the canon, just a note in the https://thearcanagame.fandom.com/wiki/World:
"The homeland of Asra's parents, Zadith lies across the Malvent Strait from Vesuvia. This is a country where both science and magic are highly respected. Those who combine both disciplines are known as alchemists."
I think this short description is suitable for the heritage of such civilization as Egyptian.
I’m sad that the history of the world is so poorly developed, but I still love the lore so much. And I’d be happy to read (only from the original writers), say, a brief history of the world. But since there's no any history, I'm taking the liberty (and, a bit, my history degree) to assume: Zadith is the inheritor of some ancient civilization like the Ancient Egypt.
I'm not good at naming, so I will provisionally call it "Deshret" – Egyptian word for "red land, desert". Valdemar spoke about "millennia of existence", describing their antiquity, so I'm pretty sure: they have been born as a human in the ancient kingdom, like the Ancient Egypt. Also, note that red beetle brooch at the neck: similar motives were common in the Ancient Egypt. And, I think, Valdemar had this beetle brooch long before the Plague.
Okay, maybe developers in Portia's route (flashback scene with Prospero and foundation of Vesuvia) just showed Valdemar to us as we know them, because of developing another (kinda "more ancient") sprite and costume for the short scene is not viable. But anyway: we have what we have. What if we imagine that "red beetle brooch" of the Courtiers is rooted not only in the Red Plague? What about a, merely my headcanon, the Egyptian "scarab" motif?
So, there's the old traditional sketch I have. When I drew this pic, I imagined Valdemar just after their first deals with the Devil. Just look at their eyes.🫀
And – of course, they are in the tomb. Maybe as a priest? Who knows, fellow humans.

Would love to know more about your Arcana/DoL thoughts when the mood strikes, by the way! (Also, I think I had a dream where Julian was isekai’d into Wren and the PC looked and acted exactly like the Arcana MC, but had no memory of the world of Arcana? Like Julian warped into Wren when he was hanged and had all his memories up til that point? But then he wakes up working for Remy and his MC is being treated like livestock? Something like that. I have a migraine so details are fuzzy)
real quick, that last bit? Sad Julian, very sad, he'd be so distraught.
Anyway.
Asra!
Rents a room in Gwylan's shop to sell... Mysterious lil bottles of who knows what and gives you tarot readings! Gwylan likes him to an extend, they're basically roommates and Asra forgets rent and to do the dishes at times.
Later down the line, if you've endeared yourself enough, then Asra will hire you just to clean up after him.
He has a special meter, which is Care. How much he cares for you reflects in your tarot readings, how much he pays you, and the extra speech lines you get. Low Care, Low Love, kinda ignores you. If he sees the Ivory Wraith in your cards, he keeps it to himself how bad it will get. High Care and Low Love, its more that he takes pity on you as a helpless orphan. Pays you more, tries to cheer you up with good cards of the future and makes gives you a freebie. Low Care and High love? You're an independent little thing, aren't you? Worries about you far less, pays you depending on how much you got done instead of the flat rate he would have kept for high care. High Care, High Love, wants to look after you. Worried about ya man.
His cards are impacted by your stats and which events you've done/ coming up. High trauma, always the tower and the hanged man on the horizon, maybe the 10 of swords when a dismissal event is lined up. When you're awareness is low/ you have innocence, its always more perky cards. It does all depend.
Nadia
Well, Quinn has an enemy in office, and its everyone's favourite Nadia!
Well.
She married Lucio, who just kinda suddenly popped up as the most important and rich guy in town, and ran for mayor, for shits and giggles at this point. Thing is, he's hot. Rich. Rich people like him. So he and Quinn have been battling it out for a while. Then... Lucio died? And Nadia felt like she was pressured into finishing his last campaign. Except she won. She doesn't want this fucking job. But goddammit she's so beloved. The time the game takes place, Quinn is running for mayor once more and she's trying to inch out of the picture but its pretty hard.
She is not aware of the dark side of the town at all and its up to the player to let her know, except if she makes changes to the town then her popularity drops and Quinn gets the job. Like, she would have been happy earlier in her life but now she's aware that shits bad, so she tries to do charity drives and shit but it never seems to make a dent.
Her meter is respect. Its different for everyone. For example, she has low respect for Quinn and Valerius (surprise, local wine bitch is in this because I love his shady ass). Also for Lucio.
The more competent you prove, the higher her respect for you is and she doesn't treat you with an icy outer façade like she does for her court council. She becomes warmer and more loving and basically becomes Avery, minus the rage. Likes to gift you stuff and inviting you to stay around hers. The only way to raise her respect is to be thorough in whatever evidence of the perverted side of the town you bring her. Anything faulty or missing, she's either suspicious or thinks you're an idiot. For example, if you want to keep your good relationship with Landry, you have to leave their name out of your findings about the criminal underworld, but she'll be able to tell that somethings missing, and her respect drops. She lives on Danube streets, in the largest house, so another way to meet her outside of bringing your concerns to her in office hours, is to break in. Unless you have high skullduggery, you will be caught and unless you have high English and seduction ahem mommy then she will keep you in the basement till the morning and hand you over to the police to be put in the pillory and trying to raise you respect from that point will be incredibly hard.
Muriel
So this was hard. Because there's already two big bitches out in that forest. A third bitch = overcrowding and it fucks with the ecosystem. C'mon guys.
So...
Muriel is stuck in prison :D
When Lucio's shady dealings make their way to the public, one of the people he used to shut up his detractors was Muriel. So, Lucio decided to dump a huge amount of his misdeeds on the poor lad and Muriel was sent straight to prison.
He doesn't ever want to talk about it. His main meter is safety. How safe he feels with you. Its extremely slow to build, and you have to gift him things like items to use to escape, food, maybe get Wren to smuggle in a small wolf sculpture or something for him to smile at. The safer he feels with you, the safer you will be in prison. He sticks to himself and weirdly the guards never ever bother him, in fact they avoid him and seem to forget about him in general.
You get far more interactions with him outside of the prison. If you escape with Wren, then you have to take him with you or the meter will fall to zero. Won't forget you left him behind.
If you get out by just waiting out your sentence, you can actually arrange visits at the prison for you to talk through the glass and that will maintain your relationship, the fact you don't forget him. To get him out with that is to go to Asra and ask him to insist on Muriel's character to Nadia and that will get him a faster release.
Then, when he enters the rest of the world, he hides out on the edges of the Wood, closer to the lake that Eden but also closer to the wolves. The wolves who love him and he plays with them like they're all puppies.
Lucio
Renowned dead husband of Nadia. What ever happened to him?
Well, hope you aren't trotting along on a dark night, because a figure might catch your eye. Large, hulking, pure white fur with his beady eyes staring straight at you. Yeah, you guessed it. You're getting kidnapped by the Goatman.
It's somewhat easy to kick him and get away but it doesn't mean he'll give up and one of these tries will finally have you carried off.
Of course, this only happens after you've done some of the Asra and Nadia events.
Now you expect the worst, because of course, its this town but he mainly starts bleating at you to use your contacts to fucking FIX HIM, right this second! His main meter is... uh... Love/ Lust.
You have a chance to fix this man. On the quest to restore him, which includes getting Gwylan, reading up on History in the library and trudging out to the Moors, you can raise his love and his lust. Only through his Love being high, will he not return to Nadia and insists on reentering the marriage and returning as Mayor. The town will get much worse, Nadia will not forgive you and Quinn shall have it out for you but on the bright side, there's a handsome New-Jersey accented hottie who likes you and owes you one.
With a high love stat, he moves back into his old house but just kinda hangs out and bugs Nadia but doesn't go back into the marriage. In fact, he's mainly mooning over you, saying terrible one liners and kicking his feet.
His lust mainly impacts on how many times you're getting railed by the goat man/ human goat man.
The Rest are either minor characters or romances that I didn't really wanna play though:
Portia: Depends on if Nadia is in office or not. Either she's her lil personal assistant or a barmaid. She always gets Landry for you or is snarking back and forth with Julian.
Valerius: Bitchy Wine Guy. Comes into the Spa almost every week, and unless you've got a High Hand Skill, then he pays the £10 every time. Later can be seen ragging on Nadia and sitting with Lucio as they drink. Yes, you can suck him off, but he has to like you a WHOLE bunch.
Valdemar: The Night Nurse. Don't go into the hospital at night. She won't help with any affliction and will instead stick things into you.
Morga: Yes, you can go fuck Lucio's mom if you two don't get along. He will scream and kick his feet and throw a tantrum and Morga will be idly rubbing your tongue with her fingers while you perch on her thigh.

Okay after f'ing with a few apps I think I'm able to edit and make up screenshots for the courtiers mimicking the game dialogue at least, I don't know if I'll ever be able to do the post card ones but that would be cool <3 found the template online. I did one for Val although kinda outta character but just to see if it would work and look good bc I'm not good at editing, like at all.
So might include these in with the chapter format I'm planning on writing 🤔
ngl I'm really proud of myself I figured it out by myself 😅

MC vs The Courtiers in a physical / general fight
{ Warning: Possible spoilers, possible mischaracterization }
Headcanon List
Context:
You, MC, want nothing more to duel against the courtiers because it either piqued your curiosity, want to fight them out of justice or pure recklessness.
Quaestor Valdemar:
• You are not making it.
• I apologize but you are duelling against a quaestor who has tentacles and a form one can comprehend with sight alone.
• I suppose you would win if in the context of being through one of the routes and gaining the power and confidence that had beaten the Devil.
• They probably had accepted the duel out of curiosity of the outcome and how you would fight them.
• Might kill you if not stopped.
Pontifex Vulgora:
• Instantly agrees.
• Loves to battle and to fight so considering the fact you asked makes them ecstatic.
• Very violent, very aggressive and quite the opponent.
• Same with Valdemar, you could possibly win if gone through a route.
• Screaming about how they want your blood and how they shall crush your bones into a fine powder.
• Would kill you if not stopped by anyone.
Praetor Vlastomil:
• Not one prone to fight when asked.
• He is more keen on not touching your disgusting human body with his hands via a duel.
• If you however, do convince him to fight, maybe via threatening his worm collection, he will rise up to duel you, who had the audacity to do so.
• You could perhaps kill him.
• If you tell him that his worm collection will be fine, he will stop his wrath and show more relief over the slimy creatures then and then glare at you with disdain.
Procurator Volta:
• Easily intimidated.
• It would be quite hard to pick a fight against her considering she is one to actively avoid fights.
• The only time she wants to fight is with food.
• And oh, what is that? Is that a nice crab puff?
• Suddenly she is very irritated against you.
• Such a surprise!
• The best she could do is flail and yell at you but considering her eyes are only focused on the delectable item within you hands, she might hit you.
Consul Valerius:
• Why are you bothering him? And why do you want to waste his precious time?
• Does not care about fighting you, honestly, he sees no point in it.
• What are you doing to that wine bottle?
• No, put it down.
• What do you mean you will not comply?
• Now, see, look at the perfectly good wine bottle that had shatter on the floor. Are you mad?!
• Would probably slap you, crush his wine glass in the process and scold you.

Short Story Taglist
I’ve been meaning to compile a list of content tags I will commonly use, and their meanings. This both gives me a handy reference to use when I’m finalizing everything to post—because honestly I blank out on how to tag it once I get to that point, lol—and I figure I’d post it as both a reference for my own readers and a potential resource for other minific authors here on Tumblr.
This list will be updated as needed; and if you have any tag you think should be added, please comment your suggestions!
I will not be adding tags for certain taboo subjects, as that content will never be on my blog and I’m sure those who write it already know how to properly tag it.
I will not be adding ship tags because frankly there are too many to add.
Please note that this list contains Content Warning tags.

What the Courtier's Titles Mean
DNI
A couple people (including me) aren't super familiar with the titles the Arcana writers picked for the courtiers, so I thought I would compile what they all mean!
Note that most of these titles come from the Roman Empire, so those are the definitions I'll be using!
Consul Valerius
This is the most straight forward and familiar title. A Consul is a court advisor, so think Jafar from Aladdin and Chi-Fu from Mulan.
Quaestor Valdemar
According to Wikipedia, a Quaestor is a supervisor of the state treasury and conducts audits. They can also be given military command in a pinch. It also bears noting that in the Roman Empire, a Quaestor is the lowest rank of all.
I think Valdemar only has this title on paper, as both the wiki and characters in the game refer to them as the palace's head physician and not the treasurer (that I've seen at least.)
Praetor Vlastomil
According to Wikipedia, there are actually two different types of Praetor. A Praetor can either be a military commander or an elected magistrate. Since Vlastomil takes over as a judge in Julian's route, Vlastomil is the second definition.
Procurator Volta
According to Wikipedia, a Procurator is either a fiscal officer or a state governor. In the fiscal officer context, Procurators are in charge of collecting taxes and rent, managing mines, and paying public servants. Aside from that, Procurators are governors of provinces so small that Procurators were appointed by the emperor and not via elections.
In Arcana canon, however, Volta is in charge of gathering and distributing food to citizens. She does have an estate, but from what I've seen and heard, she doesn't have any governorship over land. So she's sort of half of both definitions.
Pontifex Vulgora
Vulgora's title is probably the most unfitting one out of the bunch. According to Wikipedia, in the Roman Empire, Pontiffs (the modern word for this title) were the heads of priest colleges and were thusly the face of worship in the Empire. In modern times though, a Pontiff is any Catholic bishop.
From what I've seen and read, Vulgora has very few ties to any religion within the game, but I do find it interesting that they work for The Devil (Major Arcana, not the actual devil) and have a title that refers to a pretty specific religion. Oh, the irony!

The Memories We Lost (AO3) A pre-Julian's route fanfic series
**18+ Only**
Posting this old one because maybe, just maybe, I'm working on the post-route sequel of sorts.
This is my pre-route 7-part (!) series. Written as reader-insert in the first person POV of the apprentice whose pronouns and gender are never referenced, nor any descriptors. The exception being Part 6, where I've written neutral, female and male NSFW scenes. Pick your preference.
I've tried to keep in line with canon as much as possible. It came in to being as a one-shot that was meant to explain how Julian and MC fell for each other so quickly in-game. And then it sort of... escalated into this... *gestures vaguely*
*****
An imagination of the back story we never got.
Whispers of a new disease spreading throughout Vesuvia have led Dr Julian Devorak to recruit new apprentices to his increasingly busy clinic. Among them is a magician, who shows themselves to be as competent with medicine as they are with magic. They and Julian work well together, find comfort in each other, and fall into a relationship. But the relentless progression of the Red Plague threatens everything they have.
Plague, romance, a dash of humour, a sprinkling of spice, and a heap of angst, this is my headcanon of Julian and MC's back story.
*****
Keep Reading for individual title summaries and links.
"That's just how he is." - Magic had nothing new for me and my shop was doing well. So when whispers of a deadly disease caused Doctor Julian Devorak, a man I highly admired, to put out a request for an apprentice, I jumped at the chance. I don't know what I expected from the doctor or my apprenticeship, but it certainly wasn't this.
Delightful Distractions - Julian hasn't been taking proper care of himself, and so I insisted on taking him out for dinner and other distractions. The plague may be looming ahead of us, but tonight it's just him and I.
Red Plague Rising - The plague is spreading throughout Vesuvia, and Julian's clinic is filling with desperately ill people. When someone close to him falls ill, and the guilt of not having a cure begins to weigh heavily on his shoulders, it falls to me to take care of him.
Clarity and Sanctuary - The Red Plague is tightening its chokehold on Vesuvia. Julian's clinic is over burdened, he's lost one of his apprentices, and neither his research nor mine has brought us any closer to finding a cure. The only solace we can find is in each other, and no matter what he says, I won't leave him.
Magic and Medicine - The Red Plague is raging throughout Vesuvia, Julian's clinic is overflowing with sick and dying patients, and together he and I try to work on finding treatments. We work well together, find comfort in each other, but the burden of his position is weighing hard on Julian's shoulders, and his desire to protect me begins to overcome reason.
A Bittersweet Heartsong - Julian might have dismissed me as his apprentice in an effort to protect me from the Red Plague, but I refused to leave Vesuvia, secretly helping at the clinic without his knowledge. As the Heartsong Festival approaches, though it won't be celebrated in the normal way, I have to decide whether I should give him the gift I've already bought him, and see where that may lead.
The End of the Beginning - Julian's duties as plague doctor have kept him at the Lazaret for days at a time, but no sooner has he returned than we're both summoned to work in the palace library and dungeon alongside the head physician, Quaestor Valdemar. I do all in my power to help Julian as he confines himself to his macabre tasks in the dungeon, but the Red Plague is relentless and utterly merciless.
*****
Honestly, this series was hard to write. But I'm happy with myself that I finished it, and I think it turned out okay.

Ranking the courtiers
The other ranking surprisingly got a response so here's more of my dumb dumb thoughts on these bitches
1. Valdemar
Do I even have to explain?
I am, in fact, a filthy shameless monsterlover
This sharp-toothed bastard can take my organs anytime. I'll consider it a selfless service from them
Horrifically uncanny, witty, cryptic, makes dark jokes and doesn't give a shit about death (because it kind of is death). Dream partner
A walking eldritch horror
Feels like an avatar from The Magnus Archives
Yes I know they are ace I just love them as a character concept and as a monster
They are the most scary element in the whole game and I'm thankful for them. I need fear to survive
Yo tengo un caballo verde que hace piruetas-
2. Valerius
I'm in love with them since Nadia's route
He bLUSHES
The perfect villain that is actually competent and intimidating but still hasn't done enough damage to be irredemable (yes this is me still being mad about Lucio. Get used to it)
Heaven is a tea party with him and the Hiperophant
Long hair man hell yeah
Honestly the corrupted sprite is pretty fcking attractive
3. Volta
Baby. Soft. Must protect. Pure
Yes I am also starving 24/7 let's team up and eat the world like that one flash game with the grey goop thing
I have this headcanon of her being a starving child when she made the deal so any ships with her seem weird to me
That one part in I don't remember who's route where she just clings to Julian, baby
4. Vlastomil
I just really like bugs
PLEASE take me to your estate to see your worm collection and tell me their names. That's all I'm here for
Seems like talking to him would be very entertaining just for the way he expresses overall
5. Vulgora
Too intimidating for me
Like they're a cool and fun character and all but if I actually met someone who yells like that I'd just run away crying
My moral side says you should never solve your problems through violence. My chaotic side says hell yeah arson
