Rapunzel, Season 2: Corset

Is it constructed the way hers is in the show? Absolutely not. Did it come out super cute? VERY YES.

I took some liberties with the design for my own personal preference, but this was a fun clear-out-the-fabric-bin project. My goal for the whole cosplay is to ONLY use materials I already have —including notions and thread! We’ll see how long it takes, but it’s good practice so far.

Okay I was pretty bad at taking process pics. To be fair, I moved twice while making this.

Pattern and mock up! Always a must when I alter a pattern into something new.

This is to show the materials I used. The main fabric is a yard of black flocked denim I had left over from a skirt I made years ago, and the binding around the edges is some burgundy satin ribbon. The metal boning I had was not very sturdy, so my fiancé suggested I secure two pieces with heat shrink tubing. Worked perfectly!

I absolutely adore this cosplay! This was my own design of her that I started back in 2021 with the skirt, then got awful creative block and shelved her. I’m so glad I revisited her when I became confident with creating boned bodices, and I’m especially proud of how the lace and appliqués came out.

I’ve cosplayed Rapunzel in 3 different dresses over the years, I can’t help but revisit her. I would love to wear her with a full braided wig, maybe one day!

Hello again, tumblr! I haven’t posted my cosplay here in 4 years so I want to get back in the habit, as much as I can. At some point I’ll try to get some of my favorite work from the last few years on here! My sewing skills have definitely grown!

I always wish I’d done more winter costumes since they’re so romantic. It’s a fun challenge to work with fabrics like wool or velvet, or to tailor coats! At some point I’ll get another done in time for the cozy season. For now, here’s my Queen for a Day winter Rapunzel, one of my favorite projects. Making lined mittens was especially fun.
