just… Goro Miyazaki starting his animation career with having a son kill his father, the king of a kingdom where magic is disappearing, and run away and Hayao (possibly ending) his career with a young boy refusing to take on his family’s powerful legacy over a magical world, knowing the world would die without him in favor of not abandoning his family and choosing to live contentedly in the mundane world…

Padme, the child queen, who wears her stoic face of diplomacy under a ten pound wig and headpiece, who poses pillar-straight under even heavier 50 pound elaborate gowns, who pleads to the Galactic Senate to help her planet. Her planet was blockaded, her cities invaded, her people captured and detained in camps. The queen Padme, whose pleas were democratically ignored due to the greed of corrupt senators allied with the Trade Federation that sought to seize her planet. Padme, the young queen, with her back straight and her face calm and unlined, had to bear their dismissal. Padme, who assisted in the defense of her planet with two Jedi and a boy they pulled from slavery. A boy who called her an angel and did not hesitate to risk his life to help save hers when thousands of galactic representatives so recently declared the lives of her and her planet not worth the risk or effort.
And years later when this boy cries over his mother, only just dead, and admits to slaughtering those who captured and imprisoned her, Padme thinks, “This is a man who will do anything for me, will slay my enemies, will be the anger I should not feel. He is worth the risk and effort.”

Imagining a canon divergence au in which Padme escapes alive with Obi-Wan and they not long after find out that Anakin lives as the right hand man of the emperor, a towering angry cybernetic black caped monolith of volatile vindictiveness.
And Padme still believes in him. She goes out of her way to find situations in which they might come face to face -- putting herself in danger because while she adores and loves her children her love and focus on Anakin have always been stronger and weighted toward misbalancing the rest of her life and his tip toward insanity tipped her too -- both believing that she can make him change his ways, become the man she fell in love with, but also
but also still loving him as he his. She hates everything about him, but that pull toward him is still there. And she knows that the pull toward her has to be just as strong. She can hate what he does and detest who he's become, but she can't lie to herself inside that she will never hate him. There is love there and there is also primal attraction and a desire to have her belief and willingness to forgive validated, for her to be right and come out on top.
anyways, Padme and Vader hatefucking.

Star Wars/Anastasia (1997) AU with Han and Leia as Dimitri and Anastasia ! !
Space conmen Han and Chewie are looking for the long lost Princess Leia (of Naboo or Alderaan, take your pick for Queen Amidala or Breha) after the Empire or Confederacy invaded her planet and tore apart and killed most of the royal family. The joke’s on them though because they cast the real princess! They just don’t know it yet.
Palpatine is in the role of Rasputin of course and he knows Leia is the daughter of Anakin/Vader. He is intent on luring her to the dark side or will kill her for resisting (Vader doesn’t know about that last bit though.)

Time travel AU (Idk if it could be called a fix-it) but of Padme dying in childbirth and waking up on Coruscant before Obi-Wan comes to her post-Order 66. And she still flies to Mustafar and this time she says yes to Anakin, bc she knows how hard and fast her heart broke over this the first time ‘round, maybe she can harden her heart and keep some fantasy of a family together by joining him.
She has this second chance and she must do things differently.
Maybe she can get through to him if she stays with him. Maybe it won’t be that bad. Maybe the world didn’t end when she watched the temple burn and learn that her husband, the father of her unborn children, her confidant and best friend of 3 years, was largely responsible. Maybe she can keep telling herself that to be angry is to be human and it’ll be true. Maybe she’ll believe it, maybe it’s true. She’s human, she’s real, she’s angry, right? Maybe she can follow him down that path and it won’t be that bad. Or maybe she can walk him off that path if she’s there by his side holding his hand and guiding him. He’s often had trouble seeing the bigger picture and she could help him.
Maybe she can save him or maybe she’ll become a monster too.
Obi-Wan still makes an appearance though. Anakin thinks she was trying to trick him which… goes badly, and Obi-Wan and Anakin still duel but Padme is there when Anakin gets rescued. Somehow she got Obi-Wan to fly away without realizing that she wasn’t onboard or convinced him that she would not leave without Anakin and things got too harried for Obi-Wan to stay.
So Padme is there through it all, alongside Vader, standing in the Senate of the new empire, avoiding Bail and Mon and their secret rebellion because she can’t be part of it but she doesn’t want to betray it either, claiming she’s too close to the emperor as Anakin’s wife and she must focus on her children on Naboo.
She splits her time exhaustingly as mother, wife, politician. She gives her second life to every cause except herself. She burns herself at both ends, deeply conflicted over the choices she’s made, the fact that she has this second chance and has not saved democracy or her husband.
She has only preserved her life this time around. She had died so soon after Anakin’s betrayal that she has no idea how things went in that life, what happened to those versions of her children. She mourns for them. She mourns for Anakin. She mourns for the galaxy. She would not admit she mourns for herself.
She sits on the fence of morality, closing her eyes and her mouth toward everything Vader does for the Empire, silently endorsing and cursing it at the same time. Soon, she will need to disturb the universe.

In an American high school au, Anakin is a 19yo senior who was held back as a kid when he was adopted or when his mom lost his job and he switched schools or something, and he was never moved forward again because actually he liked being held back a lot more because the review of information he struggled with helped him and he liked appearing smart in the subjects that he didn't struggle in.
Anyways, he and Ahsoka meet because he works in the math lab his senior year and she starts coming in as a freshman struggling with algebra I. And they unexpectedly become friends even though that's weird in high school. 5 years is huge at that age. But he likes having someone like a little sister because he loves being able to boss someone around and be smart to and a smarmy know-it-all. And she's funny in a snippy way and hasn't learned enough to overcome the self-consciousness that hit her at puberty. So she likes having someone confident and snarky around because it brings out those traits in her. Also, math lab is helping her grades.
And they're both super competitive and into sports/athletic activities even though Anakin has never been "one of the guys" on the sports teams and none of Ahsoka's friends joined any teams even though they like playing casually in gym class. So they like talking professional sports with each other and about the school sports teams.
Anyways, they unexpectedly become best friends through math, sports, and hijinks. They get into weird escapades a la Nickelodeon/Disney Channel preteen shows. (And of course Anakin graduates at the end of the year but doesn't leave Ahsoka behind yet because he goes to the local community college bc he doesn't know what he wants to do yet but he wants to continue school without flushing money down the toilet, and that's also where Obi-Wan works and where Padme teaches poli sci)

Idea: Anakin as Kuzco from the Emperor’s New Groove who wants to blow up Tatooine to make space for his cosmic podracing race track. Anakintopia!!
Palpatine and Jar Jar are Yzma and Kronk. Palpy is the Grand Vizier to Emperor Anakin and Jar Jar is his home-world representative Naboo assistant :)
Obi-Wan and Padme are Pacha and Chicha. Luke and Leia are their kids Tipo and Chaca. They’re both ambassadors of Tatooine to the Empire Senate (this is an Emperor’s New Groove AU, don’t say silly things like, “that’s not canon!”)
and since Padme’s pregnant with their third kid, Obi-Wan had to try to justify his planet’s continued existence by himself when he thought he was just summoned in regards to his request to discuss water import tax tariffs or subsidizing bantha dairy farms or whatever.
But it all goes wrong. Obi-Wan gets mad at the spoiled young emperor after he reveals he plans to destroy the “revolting sand pit”, but he only departs Coruscant after a talking llama, formerly known as Emperor Anakin, unknowingly and accidentally stows away on his ship back to Tatooine.
But with Jar and Jar and Palpy in hot pursuit hoping to finish their failed assassination attempt, Obi-Wan and llama!Anakin hit an unexpected number of increasingly ridiculous detours on the way home :)
If someone wants this to be more Star Wars-y, Anakin could be turned into a droid and not a llama. …which is actually a pretty funny idea because he’d be something like if R2D2 and C-3PO had a baby.

oh oh ! Terminator/Star Wars crossover au with Padme as Sarah Connor, Anakin as Kyle Reese, the Empire and Palpy as Skynet, and Vader (the Empire ofc salvaged Anakin’s body for their Darth cyborg terminator project) as the terminator
And T2, Luke and/or Leia take the role of John Connor. I like the idea of the Empire targeting Leia and not knowing about Luke being her twin though. Then Obi-Wan is somehow a reprogrammed jedi terminator that helps them out.
Or, an alternate codywan version is that a stormtrooper terminator is sent back to kill Obi-Wan bc he is the key to locating the twins/the guy who raises Luke and Leia in the future and Cody is Kyle Reese sent back to save him, then T2 is Cody wrangling them like cats, but the cats have lightsabers (one from Obi-Wan, one from Anakin)
