Today, since we're over half-way through Plastic Free July, I was thinking about how much I've been able to reduce our plastic consumption now that I've been home/not in the car for 2 hours every work day. It didn't feel like much until I considered it all together, because all of them are little changes and/or changes I've been wanting to make forever but only now had the time/energy to research and pursue.

Of course, we can't forget that corporations cause the majority of pollution, and individual choices cannot and will not absolve corporations of their responsibility. However, individual choices still matter. I will make every move that I am able to in order to better care for the environment and my body.

Since the middle of March, I have:

Switched to cloth menstrual pads.

Made reusable cloth face masks for myself, my husband, my friend, my parents, my grandma, and my brother. (I have used exactly 1 disposable face mask- at the doctor's office where it was required I use one of theirs.)

Replaced our kitchen sponges with cotton crocheted ones.

Replaced my cotton balls with reusable cotton crocheted ones.

Replaced our dry Swiffer pad usage with crocheted reusable ones (unfortunately only polyester yarn works for this, but it's still less trash in the landfill).

Speaking of all that, I only just learned how to crochet (like, literally I officially started my first scarf the same week that schools started closing), so this is a brand new skill I'm developing that is allowing me to replace these plastic/trash producing products, not just enough time to make the replacements.

Also, I refuse to use acrylic/polyester unless absolutely required for the project. I've been using the acrylic yarn I have to practice new skills/test patterns, but I make everything for actual use out of natural fibers (alpaca, cotton, and recycled cotton so far).

Purchased another bracelet from 4Ocean (1 bracelet = 1lb of trash pulled from the ocean + the bracelets are made from recycled plastic).

Purchased and began using a Cora Ball (reduces the amount of plastic washed into the waterways from our laundry).

Switched to a plant-based laundry detergent (still in a plastic bottle, but we'll recycle it).

Switched to BlueLand plastic-free cleaning products (I'm almost out of my basic cleaners and we can't find more anyway; I got their "clean up kit" for now and will probably explore more of their products as we run out of other cleaners).

Learned about, researched, and purchased a safety razor (for it's direct benefits as well as the environmental impact of ditching the plastic/disposable razor).

Purchased biodegradable bar face soap, shampoo for me, and shampoo for my husband, and shaving soap from the same place as the safety razor (100% plastic free shop- in products and packaging- called EcoRoots).

Found and experimented with patterns until and made 1 (so far) reusable cotton soap saver bag that I like in preparation for the slow move over to bar everything in the shower.

Finally washed our reusable straws.

All of this IN ONLY 4 MONTHS! And it's all in addition to the things we were already doing (recycling as much as possible, reusable grocery bags, (slowly) switching to silicone ziplocs and beeswax wraps, no dryer sheets/fabric softener, reusable water bottles & travel mugs, steam mop instead of wet Swiffer, etc.)! I'm really excited! Solarpunk future, here we come. :)

And use reuable muslin cloth or @facehalo for removal. 2.Toning. I like to apply toner with my hands. No waste of cotton rounds or if you’re like me and using reusable cotton rounds. Also i like to press in my toner with hands like I do with my essences. 3. Face mask+ exfoliate. I like to exfoliate weekly , especially if i have any flaky dry layers. And Face masks 2-3 times a week. Deep cleanse/clay masks once a week. Gel, milky, anti-aging mask twice a week, and sheet masks...well can’t have enough of these. Dream, if i could have one every single day. 4. Use only clean brushes. Make sure you sanitise and clean you brushes after every use. Theres many quick fix sprays on the market.but Deep wash at least after 3 uses. Per single brush. Dirty brushes are big reason why you break out or have sensitive skin.
