I've come to ur askbox bearing percybaster and also trans!al
Alabaster doesn't like swimming bc gender dysphoria so Percy makes it a mission to find a lil secluded spot in the forest that nobody visits and makes a lil pond type thing for them to swim in 👁👁
took some liberties by making the lil forest pond a lagoon cave thingy instead but here ya go hehe
--
The little cave is beautiful, with columned walls and jagged domes of limestone embracing the glinting turquoise waters, which are so clear that Alabaster can see the bedrock several fathoms beneath them no problem. Hanging over the cave's northeast side is an eye to the sky, letting sunrays provide them natural light as Percy beaches their little kayak on a flat area next to the mouth of the cave.
It's beautiful, and trepidation cloys in Alabaster's throat. Percy has just barely managed to hammer into his head that all this care wasn't just a way to somehow fatten Alabaster up before he's offered up to a slaughter for the gods. Now, it was just a question of whether said care was out of pity or remorse.
Alabaster likes neither option. Even moreso now that they would make his discomfort look very, very bad. He doesn't wanna be ungrateful.
"C'mon, Torrington! Get in!" Percy yells, whooping as he leaps in headfirst. When he surfaces again, the water rolls off tanned skin in rivulets. "It's the perfect day for a swim!"
"For you, maybe," grumbles Alabaster, toying with the bottom of his shirt. "Any day is a perfect day for you to swim."
"Tsk, don't be so hotheaded. The sun today is oppressive enough as it is."
"Well, don't put the fault on me. Contact your rhyming fucker of a cousin and tell him to tone it down, since you're so chummy with the family."
Still, Percy is right; the day is hot. The crevices of his inner compression shirt are uncomfortable with damp sweat, and the glimmering water looks horribly tempting. Alabaster settles for sitting down where the limestone drops off beneath the water.
Percy wades towards him. "Did I do something?" he asks.
"No." Alabaster slowly kicks out his shins, creating gentle whirpools underwater. "For once."
"What is it, then? Is this... Is this too much?"
"Is what too much? Talking like you sculpted this place into the ideal date venue," Alabaster scoffs.
There's a beat, and Percy awkwardly chuckles. "Not entirely. Just smoothed out the dangerous edges, put the skylight there, cleared out some sharp rocks... But the rest is natural. I just happened to find it."
When he receives no reply, Percy hoists himself halfway out of the water. Alabaster's face grows hot in a way that has nothing to do with the weather—and everything to do with the way Percy settles himself, sculpted forearms and lean torso and all, in the space between his legs.
Contrary to the seeming audacity of that move, though, Percy's next words are laced with uncertainty. "If I overstepped, I really didn't mean to. We can just forget about this and go back—"
Alabaster grabs the Camp bead necklace before Percy can continue, and the son of Poseidon settles. Then, seized by some strange urge, he flattens his palm against Percy's firm sternum.
"One day, when I'm not constantly at the risk of dying," he says, "I won't have to rely on the Mist or my binders anymore. I'll be able to handle being—being seen. Then maybe I'll swim."
Percy blinks at him. "Being seen by others? I can swim outside if you want privacy."
A bitter smile crosses Alabaster's face. "Some days, I can barely look at myself. Today's one of those days, apparently. Especially when you look like goddamn Little Merman, in your element and all. It's annoying."
"Oh. Sorry?"
"For fuck's sake. You were all too happy to give me a show, weren't you? Go on." Alabaster pushes him away with his fingertips, and Percy topples back into the water with bubbling laughs.
He wasn't lying; the next several minutes, he leeches off the contagion of Percy's joy. "Look at this weird seashell I found down there," "How long can you hold your breath, just dunk your face in—haha you look stupid underwater," "SPLASH FIGHT!" and Alabaster actually fucking indulges him. The last one in particular gives him an idea of how to use this place. Just so Percy's effort doesn't go to waste, of course. If there's one thing Alabaster can appreciate, it's a masterful use of one's powers.
That's all there is to it. Really.
"Hey, Jackson!" he calls out, getting to his feet. "Fuck you!" And predictably, Percy shouts it back and sends another mini-tsunami at him.
Alabaster grins. "Incantare," he mutters under his breath, so that Percy can't hear him, "Furit Mare."
Immediately, the wave erupts from the surface with a roar, reversing its momentum and crashing down on its original caster.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Percy's voice reverberates from underneath, and Alabaster smugly grins. The dark head pops back out. "WHAT WAS THAT?!"
"Well, I figured," Alabaster replies, "if I can't fight you in your element, I'll just have to learn how to work with it to beat you."
"Oh, it's so on," Percy growls, commanding the water to raise him to his feet.
"Oh." Another incantation, and when Alabaster steps onto the water, the surface holds. "It is."
--
Note: "Furit Mare" roughly translates to... "The sea is raging" .... ? But I am no Latin scholar so I make no pretensions of expertise here HAHAHHA

can someone tell me which specific type of jellyfish has the color of a transparent-like with brown strips along its tentacles and like just on the brain or head part, because when i was on the beach with my family hanging out and chilling you know? i was on the water, swimming and floating then there's a fucking plastic looking kind of creature on the water so i was confused whether it was a plastic bag or it was actually a jellyfish. then i told my cousin that i just saw a fucking jelly and he was like, "what?" he was also right next to me and i told him, "it's a jellyfish!" i excitedly screamed but he said that it wasn't and probably was just a plastic bag and i was also gaslighting that maybe it is. but i wasn't like... ENTIRELY convinced. after that we went crystal kayaking and i saw it again. then i pointed it out, pulled the fucking paddle away from my cousin to lift it up and see to confirm it and it was slippery, not because it was from the water i'm definitely sure if it was it wouldn't have slipped off. after that, next encounter i touched it, not like fully grasp onto it i just slightly felt it, it was very fucking slidy. and that shit i was definitely sure it was a jellyfish on the ocean.
Tumblr media
it looked similar like this but i'm trying to find the exact jellyfish that i saw on the water.
thank God i did NOT decide to touch it.

absolute wreck of a week, protesting horrible government decisions, deadlines in all 9 subjects I am doing right now, finishing a project and simultaneously starting a new one at work, I broke my favorite ring, it’s sunday and it’s not even a race week so like overall a bummer week BUT
Yacht AU???? Marlene&Lily have a yacht and they are running it. Rich people rent the crew (this is Marlene,Lily&boys) and the yacht for a summer and travel around and have parties and all that.
This summer those said rich people are Pandora&Dorcas joined with Reg, Barty and Evan.
The crew kinda hates “the rich” usually because they are boring, weird, old, disrespectful and overall just not pleasant and they expect the same old, same old when they have a reservation with one named Dorcas Meadows like they imagine an obnoxious rick Lady but they are kind of pleasantly surprised to see them and they are all hot! but also more annoyed because they now think it’s those type of I am rich, I can do anything young people. BUT opinions are changed, relationships are formed, parties are partied and islands are explored.
I do not know anything about yachts or water travel at all for that matter. I am terrified of large bodies of water at night and from what experience I have kayaking I would absolutely be useless on a boat BUT I need serotonin right now and forced proximity, kinda tense vibes, sexually charged voyage sound damn fucking good to me.

then the second hemmy dips her paw over the side of the kayak he's snatching her up and cuddling her close with the grumpiest look on his face saying "can't take you anywhere, can i"
She’d lean over the side of the boat and paw at the water curiously to try and capture one of the fish swimming by, and Harry would grab her by the back of the neck and shove her in the little cubby hole between his legs, giving her a stern scowl and motioning grandly with his paddle. “Just because you have a life vest doesn’t mean you have to put it to use. Stay right there and don’t fucking move.”
The cat blinks at him blankly, meowing softly as she proceeds to wobble forward in her giant marshmallow jacket, curling around his foot and rubbing her face against his ankle, purring affectionately.
Harry rolls his eyes, glaring down at her accusingly. “Don’t play coy.”
Y/N clears her throat behind him, and when the demon whirls around to answer her wordless summoning, he finds his girlfriend with her elbow propped on her knee, chin resting atop her fist casually as Nimbus and Onyx sit beside her, their towering heights flanking either sides of her torso almost protectively. She shrugs her eyebrows at him smugly with an amused expression plastered across her twitching cheeks, and the same type of tone is evident on his dogs’ furry faces, as well, obvious in the way their eyes momentarily glint ember red in silent mirth. “What happened to letting her survive on her own, hm?”
The demon purses his lips in begrudging resignation, muttering his words lowly as he turns back around to continue steering the kayak accordingly. “If I let her die in the water, I’ll get charged a littering fee.”
Y/N snorts behind him humorously, and he can hear his hounds copy her action amongst themselves. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s the case.”
“It is.”
“If you say so.”

First-timers Escapade feat: Water Adventures
Water Sports are one of the adventurous sports that you may know as it needs a lot of courage and a proper physique or healthy body in able to do some of this. It may come in a different kind just like kayaking for some calm water sports, there’s also some kind of harder water sport such as Scuba diving wherein you need some trainings to be done before you can enjoy it. This kind of sports or activities are great for all travelers specially to those first-time travelers as they can enjoy their travels with a little bit of adventure but there is just one thing that you need to master before u enjoy all of these water sports which is you need to know how to swim.
If you want some thrill and adventuresome kind of water activities, well you came at the right content wherein I’ve listed down below the top five best water sports for you as a first-time traveler.
Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP)
Stand Up Paddle boarding or SUP is a variation of traditional surfing but instead of lying prone on the surfboard and paddling with arms to get out to the surf zone, SUP surfing allows the participant to stand on the board from the shore and paddle out to the surf zone using a SUP paddle. You only need the water and a paddleboard with its paddle. You can either sit or stand on a paddleboard and this can be a great way to relax and enjoy the water or turn it into a good workout.
Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding can be a great choice for all skill levels. It may take a few times to get up on the board, but once you do, you will absolutely love it. Wakeboarding is a kind of water sport which is the rider will stand on a wakeboard (a board with foot bindings), is towed behind a motorboat across its wake and especially up off the crest in order to perform aerial maneuvers.
Jet-Skiing
Jet-Skiing is a fun water-based activity to practice during summer in almost all the bathing spots at the sea. Even if jet ski competitions exist, it is for the most part a recreational activity that will provide you with the right amount of adrenaline when riding little waves at a different speed, but also allow you to discover hidden bays and beautiful beaches, which are otherwise difficult to get to.
Fly-boarding
Fly-boarding is a water sport in which the participant stands on a board that is attached to a jet ski by a long hose. The jet ski provides the power to lift the participant into the air, where they can perform a variety of aerial maneuvers. Flyboarding is a relatively new sport, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its thrilling, adrenaline-fueled experience.
Water Rafting
Rafting and whitewater rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water. Dealing with risk is often a part of the experience. This kind of water sports are one of the extreme ones but it also fun for all the beginners as long as you choose the right path and know what to anticipate.
This kind of water sports are just some examples among the many water sports that we can enjoy. This can be a good guide to the first-time travelers to start soaring their dream adventures into their lives.

Nova Scotia: North and West shores
Before heading to Nova Scotia, I'm visiting the Hopewell Rocks which are at almost high tide this morning so that people kayak around the flowerpots rather than walk on the ocean floor. The Bay of Fundy is infamous for its fog so many viewpoints did not have much to show but the walk along the cliffs was still a great way to start the day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After having rounded the end of the bay through Moncton (which I visited a few years ago but didn't find interesting), I dove into Acadian history at the Monument-Lefebvre National Historic Site in Memramcook and at the Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site. The first time I had heard about the Acadian people and their horrible deportation by the English had been in Cape Breton many years ago, so I knew their story but it was interesting to learn more... many of the original settlers came apparently from the area of La Rochelle in France, which is close to where my grandparents lived! The Lefebvre monument is at the first French college in the Maritimes, which allowed Acadians to get educated in their own language, which in turn spearheaded efforts to reclaim their identity. It was also the location of the first Acadian Convention in 1881, which continues to be held every 5 years celebrating Acadian culture across the world. Driving along Nova Scotia's north and west shores, the display of the Acadian flag everywhere shows that people remain proud to this day! 👌 The visit to the fort gave pretty views over the bay but also sobering thoughts as this was the site where the English deported many Acadians after having taken over the fort from the French (who had forced the Acadians to fight with them despite having proclaimed neutrality) ... It makes me shudder to be reminded time & time again of how brutal humans can be against each other!
Tumblr media
A completely different type of history is told at the Joggins Fossil Cliffs, which is a UNESCO world heritage site recognised for its preserved sequence of Carboniferous sediments and, due to the high tides continuously exposing more rock face, a tremendous collection of fossils from the Coal Age. Not only are there tons of fossilized trees (the 3 pics below are from left to right of the outer cast of a tree trunk, a tree root embedded in the rock, and a trunk that tumbled down from a rockslide), but it is here that a fossil was found of the first reptile which could reproduce on land and which therefore is the ancestor of all land-based animals, including the dinosaurs and ourselves 😃. A guided walk along the beach allowed us to pick up random rocks and ask whether it contained a fossil, and most of the time it did! 😁 It was a shame that we were not allowed to take anything home (I already have a little fossil collection from Oman), but that's what conservation is about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Final activity of the day is setting up my tent at Five Islands Provincial Park, close to the highest tides in the world (up to 16 meters!) in the Minas Basin, where I arrived at low tide so that I could walk over the seafloor to the first of the islands and have a look at the magnificent red cliffs (that don't contain any fossils). No single mosquito meant that I could watch the sun set over the bay in peace 😊. Next morning, the usual fog wasn't too bad so that I still had a bit of a view over the rocks from up high on a hiking trail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Driving around Minas Basin the next morning, I tried to see the tidal bore that happens when the high tide water rushes into a shallow river but missed it twice (at the first place in Truro I was an hour too early and at the next place along the Shubenacadie River it had just passed), but to watch the speed of the water coming in was impressive nevertheless (I had taken a video but sadly only one is allowed per post & I got a cooler one further down).
Having spent enough time on the high tides, I drove slightly more inland and had a great time wine tasting at Luckett Vineyards in the Annapolis Valley. Similar to around Niagara, this region has many different wineries who have tasting rooms, restaurants and little trails for visitors. The highlight here is the red telephone booth, from which you can call free to anywhere in North America, so I made a call to my colleague Kathryn who had recommended the place! 😍
Tumblr media
Before leaving town, I also visited the Grand-Pré National Historic Site, which was the largest Acadian village before the deportation and where a statue of Evangeline graces the grounds in front of a memorial church. Evangeline was a fictious character from a poem that became to symbolize the Acadian plight so she's quite a heroine around here with streets, shops and everything in between named after her! The Celtic cross indicates the place where the villagers boarded the deportation ships before the town was burned down.
Tumblr media
On that gloomy note, it started to rain and it didn't stop for two days 😒 the delicious chowder (seafood soup) at a harbour restaurant in Digby helped to warm up after which I was very happy having booked a hotel for 2 nights!
Despite the crappy weather I still had a great day at Digby Neck, which is a series of 2 islands jutting out into the Bay of Fundy, connected by two little ferries whose timetables are aligned so it's one drive through. I had however left an hour early so that I could hike to Balancing Rock on the first island, where a large piece of granite hangs precariously over the edge of the sea. It's a beautiful, rugged coastline and also the boardwalk to it (with big-leafed skunk cabbage around the trail) was pretty so well worth braving the rain!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then I had the most awful but also the coolest whale watching tour I've done so far... we spent about 3 hours off the coast of Brier Island in the driving rain on an open boat on a rolling sea looking for whales and seabirds... About a 1/3 of the tourists vomited and although I kept it in and was warm & semi-dry due to my many layers, it sucked!! There was nothing to see for a long long time apart from a few swimming seals and shearwater birds so the mood wasn't great, until two humpback whales called Foton and Litte Spot (according to the marine biologist) showed up right next to us!! They kept coming close to the boat and flapped their pectoral flipper on & on the water for some 20 minutes...something I've never seen before, really special! Swimming so close by, you could see their massive, grooved bodies and ofcourse their tails when they were diving deeper. On the way back, when the rain briefly stopped & the waves subdued closer to the shore, everyone was smiling 😃 however never been so happy to sit dry in my car waiting for the ferry ;)
Tumblr media
The next day there was rain nor fog (woohoo!) so had a pretty drive along the west shore, where there's mostly small Acadian villages, the bigger town of Yarmouth where I got some beers from the local microbrewery and many, many lighthouses of which I chose three to visit. The first one was at Gilbert's Cove where you can walk up a ladder to stand next to the old light (now decommissioned). Outside, there were male eider ducks close by the shore so that you could see how truly large they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second lighthouse I visited was at Cape Saint Mary, a tiny square (still active) building that you can't enter, but which has impressive rocks around it. Nearby Mavillete beach has pretty dunes and would be a great place to chill if it were warmer!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third lighthouse that I saw is at Cape Forchu, southwest of Yarmouth, which is called the "apple core light" because of its shape. I can't imagine living on such an outcrop during a winter storm!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the final stretch to my camp cabin for the night, I passed through badly burned forest west of Shelburne, which had been doused only the week prior... The fire had grown to more than 235 square kilometres and forced more than 6,000 people from their homes, destroying over 200 houses and other structures. It was very sad to see the "apple green" trees turned into all this black, stinking mess... That night, the smoke alarm in the cabin went off from time to time, which I was later told is due to remaining ash in the air.
Tumblr media
Just before turning into the campground, I walked briefly around Shelburne's historic district, which was built largely by British Loyalists who fled from the US and started a new life here. It only being 4pm, the town was deserted apart from a few prom photo shoots which was funny to watch as they are still soooo young :)
Tumblr media
Wildlife: 3 seals & 2 humpback whales (Digby Neck), 15 male Eider ducks. There's ofcourse also lots of shore birds all around the Maritimes, but whose name I don't know apart from gulls and cormorants which I'm not fond of, so ignoring those 😉
SUPs: none
Hikes: two at Five Islands PP, one at Digby Neck

that hell-wip aside, i do have.. so many ideas. for timothy stoker last life au.
Tim wakes up, back to the ground, the world spinning above him. And, see, here's the thing: he's fairly sure he's meant to be dead, all things considered. That's generally what happens when you get blown up. ...but he's not. He's here. Only, uh... he doesn't know where here is. …that's an issue.
There's a sun above him. Trees, short and stumpy, their foliage barely wide enough to cast him in the shade. Tim can hear their leaves shuffle just slightly in a wind he can't quite feel, and there's the sound of water nearby, just quiet enough that he's not quite sure he hasn't made it up.
Against his back is grass, and rocks, and some odd bar that's pressing uncomfortably into his shoulder.
Actually, he finds himself more uncomfortable than he'd realized. Which is weird. Because Tim's fairly sure that he's not meant to be feeling uncomfortable. Fairly sure he's not meant to be feeling anything except, like... y'know. Dead.
Well, okay, he's not a liar. He's not going to pretend that a tiny part of him hadn't been expecting sunshine and rainbows and kayaks. Some dumbass tearful reunion with his brother. The works.
But he's pretty sure -- no, fuck that, he knows -- that heaven isn't the type of place you're meant to be lying on uncomfortable grass and trying not to panic. (And if it is, well, he thinks that's a load of bull. And a little terrifying. So: not his problem right now. He smoothly relegates that to 'future Tim's' problem, and hey! Easy! Problem solved.)

Hi Em😌❤️ love your fics on Miguel and Cevans characters and here for the shipping game👉👈
I'm 167cm so about 5ft6? Asian with glasses (like typical Asians sjsksjksksjsksk) A dog person but really can't resist any fluffy animals (cats, bunnies, etc) but I'm okay with reptiles too. Snakes always seems to have a huge interest in my house.?(can always see them at the stairs or sneaking into our porch every two years or so) I'm more of the museum type when I'm traveling and not keen on hiking. And I love water, swimming, kayaking, and always hope to live near the water in my future. I prefer novels more than non-novel books, and I try cooking in my spare time. Not a great cook but I'm pretty good at making Chinese food since I'm studying abroad in the UK. (Though I'm okay with steaks and spaghetti and "western food" too (sry for being stereotyping in advance)
Oh! And I'm INTP in the 16 personalities for MBTI. More often I'm an introvert and I enjoy the silence between me and my partner if we ever go out on a date. I don't feel the need to chat to fill the void.
(Could you pls ship me with one of the Cevans characters?👉👈
of course, i don't write fics for his characters anymore, but i'm totally fine writing the odd blurb for requests!!
i ship you with ari!
(ngl i haven't watched the movie so i'm basing his personality off of my fics lol)
ari is definitely a dog person, i mean he's practically a golden retriever himself. he'd probably be the type of guy to surprise you with a dog when you get home for dinner. like:
"ari, what the hell???"
"what?"
"what do you mean, what? you got us a dog?!"
"oh, that old thing? yeah, that's pirogi"
"-.-, really? you named our dog after a dumpling?"
he loves traveling and is definitely into water activities, i mean his whole movie is about being a sea resort right (idk i haven't seen it 😭 i just skipped to the parts where he's shirtless and/or neked AHH WHY AM I EXPOSING MYSELF RN)of course, he wears his small-ass swim trucks for all your adventures.
he can be romantic (sometimes), like he'll kiss you under a waterfall, take you out on a row boat for a lake picnic, and take you to museums while holding your hand through every exhibit. but he'd also chuck you into the water just so he can jump in an pretend to save you, or tug on your ponytail just to annoy you lmaoo.
ari is happy to taste test your experimental recipes, he thinks it's adorable how determined you are to cook more! he can cook some stuff and he tries to help out in the kitchen, but he only has two or three things he's actually confident in, so usually he'll just stick with washing the dishes (house husband fr).
also he doesn't mind the silence either, he just enjoys holding you or hanging out in the same room. your dates are pretty lowkey bc he's not a very fancy guy. you both know that you don't need to do anything extravagant to impress each other, you just like being with one another.

It’s the naga Hajime again! Did you miss him? I certainly missed him.
Time for a fun activity outside of Nagito’s house this time. How exciting! Whatever will they do?
Guess you will have to find out!
“Can you swim in all kinds of waters?”
The question slipped out as Nagito had been scrolling through an advertisement on his tablet for a kayaking service not too far away from his home.
Hajime raised his head from where he had been lounging on the pillow pile, looking up at the human relaxing on the recliner. “Swim? Hmmm… well, I suppose I can swim comfortably in most lakes and rivers. Pools are fine so long as the chlorine is low. Not the ocean, though. Far too salty for me.” He raised an eyebrow as he rested his weight on his crossed arms. “Why do you ask? This can’t have been a random thought spawned from nothing.”
Nagito chuckled. “Well, you aren’t incorrect. I just found something that I was considering doing should you be up for it.”
Hajime seemed to give into his curiosity and slithered closer. He maneuvered around the recliner, raising himself to rest on the chair’s arm. “Show me.”
And so Nagito did, scrolling through the ad again and showing it to the naga. Hajime hummed as his reptilian eyes scanned the words, tail tip flicking from its place on the pillows. Once he finished, he retreated back to the soft bed. “A river, huh? It’s been a while since I was able to swim in one. And even then, it was shallow. Not enough for me to submerge.”
The human looked over the tablet at the naga. “So are you interested?”
Hajime scoffed. “Sure. If you can find a way to sneak me and my 25 foot long tail into a populated activity area with tons of humans. But it’s not like that is possible.”
Nagito grinned as he pulled up a new tab on his tablet, a plan already formulating as he typed in his request in the search bar. “Oh, I wouldn’t be so sure about that, my dear Hajime.”
~~~~~~~~~~
Nagito hummed to the tune on the radio as he drove down the road. Traffic was practically non-existent today for him, which he was grateful for. It was his first time driving such a large vehicle, after all.
He reached the kayaking rental place, pulling into the parking lot and surveying the options. And to his delight, the perfect spot was available. The farthest corner, with plenty of trees near the river.
He backed the truck up, this task made easier due to there being no others this far away. No one would possibly be able to see what he was about to do.
He got out of the truck, walking calmly and nonchalantly over to the back and unlatching the door. He started trying to lift the door, managing to get it up a few inches. Then tan, clawed hands joined his effort from the other side, lifting it the rest of the way with ease. He was soon face-to-face with his beloved naga again. “We are here! Are you excited?” Nagito exclaimed with excitement.
Hajime crossed his arms as he stared at the human in front of him. “To be out of this metal box on wheels? Yes. Are you sure this is necessary?”
Nagito shrugged his shoulders. “It’s the best I could come up with. It’s easy to acquire and inconspicuous. But anyways, you are free to go to the river now! No one is over here and the river is just beyond these trees.”
Hajime turned his head to look where Nagito had been pointing, eyes lighting up in excitement. “I can smell it. Smells clean and free of pollutants.” He peeked out around the truck, satisfied when he saw none near them. That gave him confidence to leave the truck and slither into the woods. “I’ll find you once you get a kayak. But I’ll stay out of sight for the most part. See you later.” Then the brown tail disappeared into the trees.
Nagito smiled as he locked the truck again and headed to the service station. He was able to get a bright green kayak easily, donning a life vest and pushing off into the water. Hajime had been right, the water did look clean. There was plenty of algae and other water plants near the bottom, obscuring anything that might be there. And the lush vegetation on the river’s banks were also large and healthy. Clearly, this river was well maintained and taken care of. Perhaps he could make a sizable donation to the place later.
His thoughts derailed slightly when he looked up the river, past the other distracted kayakers. He saw Hajime’s half submerged head peeking out from some reeds, eyes clearly locked on him. Upon making eye contact, the naga appeared satisfied and vanished under the surface. Seemed like he was enjoying the water, which Nagito was glad to see. So he sat back in his kayak and relaxed, intending to enjoy himself, too.
For a while, there was only the sound of the voices of those around him and the splashing of the small boats on the water. It was peaceful, allowing him to people-watch.
Which, of course, meant he was watching the moment things began changing to something far more entertaining.
He noticed someone begin peering into the water below them, eyes straining as they looked. Someone near them inquired about this, to which they replied that they thought they saw something. It was brushed off briefly, before someone else started looking into the water with a confused expression. More and more began seeing something in the water, concern growing. Nagito also decided to look under the water, managing to catch sight of a large dark shape near the river’s bottom.
But unlike everyone else there, he knew exactly what was causing it. And he got the feeling he was going to enjoy what happened next. Especially after he began tapping the surface of the water in a similar pattern to how he did at the pool in his home.
It had an immediate reaction. Hajime had heard his tapping and began moving towards him. And in doing so, he started rising to the surface. Which meant his tail began bumping into some of the boats in front of the white-haired human’s kayak.
Needless to say, people began freaking out, screaming and frantically paddling back to shore. Nagito found himself needing to raise his shirt collar up and above his mouth to hide his laughter. It was like something right out of a movie.
Soon, he was alone as the staff and lifeguards tried to calm the frantic crowd who claimed a river monster knocked their boat. All eyes were off of him, so he tapped the water surface once more. Hajime’s wet head came into sight, the long snake tail holding him steady from its position on the riverbed. He breached quietly, raising an eyebrow at the human. “What happened? I saw lots of movement.”
Nagito had to fight the wave of giggles fighting to emerge. “Oh, the people are claiming they have witnessed something in the water. I wonder what it could have been.”
Hajime gave him an unimpressed look. “Is that why you called me over? To cause chaos?”
Nagito reached over to stroke the wet brown hair. “Not to worry. I am sure we will be able to return should you want to swim here again. After all, strange creature sightings have quite an attraction on people. I’m sure this place will see more business after today.”
The naga grumbled, but still leaned into the touches. “I suppose I wouldn’t be opposed to returning. Even if it means going into that truck again.”
The human nodded, already looking forward to their next outing. “I’ll be sure to fill it with more blankets and pillows. I’ll throw some towels in as we go home so you can dry off.”
Hajime pulled away from the kayak about a foot. “Alright. But I want to swim a little more. Tap the water after ten minutes, okay?” And then, the brown hair disappeared under the water again.
Nagito smiled as his companion vanished from his sight. He relaxed again on his kayak, bobbing gently on the water once more. From the corner of his eye, he saw some people returning to their own kayaks and into the river after seeing the one remaining person was still there and no monster was visible. The thought of Hajime inspiring a new urban legend made him grin again. He couldn’t wait to tell Chiaki and Izuru about it. It would be a fun story for many years.
Bright and early, today I finally set out to explore the famous Abel Tasman National Park! After a quick briefing with the kind people at Mārahau Sea Kayaks, I started onto the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, and soon met my first Weka!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently these little rascals steal whatever they can when you're not looking, including passports, so I kept a close eye on it until it moved along. I continued on my way along the winding path, using my Trekz Titanium for some background film scores that don't drown out the beautiful birdsong drifting down from the trees. It feels magical when the climax in the song coincides with a stunning view on the hike, like it did with the theme song from How To Train Your Dragon and this breathtaking viewpoint for me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though I had to keep up a steady pace, I thoroughly enjoyed the walk, the scenery changing delightfully with every turn:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After about three hours I made it to Observation Beach, just in time to meet the Aqua Taxi that brought in my kayak guide. It had some others to pick up still, so they were kind enough to offer to let me come along for the ride. We even dropped by Adele Rock to spot some baby fur seals!
Once the group was complete and we'd all understood all the safety instructions, we took the kayaks out to sea. The initial plan was to paddle back to Mārahau, but a strong Southwesterly wind was building up that would prevent us from getting there, so the guide changed the plan. We paddled North instead, and saw some more seals, shags and oystercatchers along the way. The wind still caught us though, and I literally had to hold on to my hat to keep it from flying off. The spray from the waves coated my face and all my clothes in salt, and my sunglasses felt like they were being blown straight into my skull, but by golly was it worth it! Such a fun activity, and I learned a lot about this more serious form of kayaking that I didn't know before. The guide was an absolute treasure, quick on his feet to make sure everybody had an experience suitable and enjoyable for them, and he knew a lot about the area. Would recommend!
Tumblr media
After about two hours of paddling, getting water and sand everywhere, we got picked up again by the taxi and brought home. The ride back through the strong winds was bumpy, but the skilled skipper knew exactly how to navigate the waves. They brought me safely back to Elrond, and after driving home I took a much needed long, hot shower. As I'm typing this I can still feel myself bobbing up and down on the ocean waves 😌
Here's a visual infographic of the day's journey:
Tumblr media
I'm really glad to be here in the off season. I met maybe 15 other hikers the entire way, so it almost constantly feels like I've got the whole park to myself. The weather is windy but sunny, so I really can't complain! My feet are killing me right now but luckily they're blister-free, for tomorrow will be another taxing day of hiking. I'm excited!
as the temperatures in merrock continue to climb higher and higher (as warm as maine tends to get), garrick is soaking up the season in every way that he can.
answers to the prompts are under the cut!
What does your character think about summer? Are they a fan, or do they long for the colder, more temperate months?
Garrick isn't the biggest fan of summer. A casual enjoyer, but he's much more of a fan of the colder months. With his birthday in early November, he loves the fall and winter season. In all of their crisp morning and snowstorm glory.
2. Is there a certain food or cold treat that they reach for on a hot night when a regular dinner just won’t work?
Some ice cream always hits the spot. He doesn't have an insane sweet tooth, but he loves some savory flavors like coffee.
3. What about a beverage they enjoy in the summer?
A nice cold beer. A Corona or Blue Moon. While he has a wide array of favorite alcoholic beverages, when summer rolls around, it's only right to welcome the season with some beer.
4. Describe your character’s sense of style / fashion go-tos when it comes to the warm months.
His style during the summer could very much be described as something between mature frat boy and vacation dad. He’s stylish and takes care of his appearance—has an eye for color and the occasional accessory. Open button downs with floral or beachy patterns paired with shorts. Boat shoes and sunglasses and maybe a matching hat. Some comfy loafers for a night out.
5. What about what they wear to the pool or the beach?
He’s definitely breaking out his little swim trunks. His shorts for day to day wear or pool wear always are above the knee. He tends to prefer darker colors such as deep purples and plums, burgundies and maroons, but in the summer he does make a little exception. He has some salmon swim shorts in his arsenal.
6. Speaking of – if they’re at the beach, what is their favorite thing to do?
He parks himself under a large umbrella in a beach chair, water in one cup holder, a beer or another refreshing beverage in the other, and a book in his lap. He’s the type to take a dip in the water from type to time, but he’s too fair to be out in the sun without burning. Listening to the waves rolling in and seagulls calling is enough ambience to soothe him.
7. If your character had to choose, would they rather spend time at the pool, or at the beach?
As much as he enjoys both, I think growing up he spent more time at a pool in general and has so many fond memories associated with them. He appreciates the beach for what it is. Enjoys reading alone. But the social nature that comes with lounging by a pool supersedes that of a beach.
8. When they’re at the pool, are they a lounge around, soaking up the sun type, or in the water, causing chaos type?
Oh, a lounge around kind of guy for sure. Catch him drinking and striking up conversation, throwing charming smiles and flirting. He won’t get rowdy in the water unless someone instigates.
9. Outside of pool and beach fun, what is your character’s favorite summer hobby or pastime that they can’t wait to do?
He loves a good BBQ. A classic, big family and friend gathering. Cooking at a grill with a drink in hand, jumping into a pool, sitting around a fire pit, lighting sparklers. He’s romanticized it just a bit, but enjoys it all the same.
10. Are they big on vacations, or are they more of a staycation kind of person?
He loves a nice vacation. A habitual enjoyer of touring historic locations and rustic historic towns to match. He loves museums and sightseeing around cities and towns. He's been known to dabble with some outdoorsy escapades like kayaking and hiking.
11. When it comes to outdoor space, gardening, etc., what does your character do? Do they mow their lawn, do they have a garden, is their home full of plants?
He has some landscaping in the front of his house—some shrubs and flowers and simple plants. He isn’t the biggest gardener, but after years of tending to some simple crops on a farm, he has an eye for helping house plants flourish.
12. What is their favorite spot to spend time in Merrock that doesn’t include the public pool and the swim beach?
He really enjoys the market. The bustle of people moving about, buying goods and food from local sellers. Live bands playing on the street. The sense of community it lends.
13. If they had to pick one thing to say that they disliked about summer… what would it be and why?
The heat. As much as he likes the sunshine, high temperatures are sometimes too much for him and his northern upbringing.
14. What is your character’s favorite summertime memory? Whether it be from their childhood or their big kid years?
The first summer he spent in the states. All of his new friends from college once spent a weekend at someone's parents' house on a lake, skinny dipped in the water, and made s'mores, kissed under the stars and crashed in a heap of blankets and pillows. The quintessential "American" summer.
15. And lastly… what is one thing that they really hope to do this summer?
T watch the sunset on the beach while on a picnic. Even if he doesn’t have any company. He wants to take full advantage of not only living on the Atlantic again, but having beautiful beaches to enjoy.
Lembeh Larking
From Raja Ampat, our adventures continued about 1.5 hours flight due west in the Lembeh Strait off the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
The Life of (Relative) Luxury
After the basic nature of our setup in Raja Ampat, we fancied a slightly more luxurious way of life for the next part of our adventures—aka somewhere with a FLUSHING TOILET (oh the thrill!).
So we chose to stay in a small resort, which meant a private bungalow each, complete with ensuite and a gorgeous view of the bay from the balcony. The lush green surrounds were home to a myriad of butterfly and bird species and one morning we even saw a monitor lizard swimming across the bay. Importantly, we were also treated to a slew of amazing vegan meals each day—the endless, delicious ways tofu and tempeh can be prepared is truly astounding.
Diving the Lembeh Strait
Much like our accommodation, our diving was also a luxury experience—Helen and I had a sizable private boat with three able crewmen (the captain, first mate, and our dive guide Rinto) at our disposal the entire time.
The diving in Lembeh was very different from that in Raja Ampat. In Raja Ampat, although there were plenty of divers, there was little in the way of infrastructure on land, so you felt as though you were diving in the middle of nowhere, looking at bountiful reef ecosystems. In contrast, the Lembeh Strait is a slice of water between the industrial harbour town of Bitung and Lembeh island. It felt much more like diving in a man-made world both above and below the water—once we even moored up right next to two massive fishing vessels, plopped over the side of the boat, bobbed around on the surface (me having a mild panic attack and praying the boats had no plans to move any time soon) and slyly slunk below the waves. That dive started with the sound of a huge boat engine throbbing in our ears—vaguely like having a mild headache for the first 20 minutes of the dive. There was also the time we rolled backwards into the water from the diving boat, which reversed out of our eyeline to reveal a fishing vessel behind with around 20 men sat on deck smiling down at us. ‘Uh, hello!’ was, I believe, my nonplussed response.
Whilst Raja Ampat was reef diving, almost all of Lembeh was muck diving, which involves barely any coral reef—instead you descend to a rubbly or sandy bottom (invariably with an entire corner shops’ worth of manmade debris lying around too) and move in a slow zigzag movement, peering at the seabed for all manner of weird and wonderful creatures making this environment their home. The creatures there were masters of camouflage such that I have never seen. Everything looked like everything else. There were fish patterned like sand lying flat along the sandy bottom. Frogfish looking like coral. Even some of the nudibranches (a type of sea slug that are usually colourful blobs) have evolved to look like bog standard seagrass.
Some of the camouflaged creatures were, in my opinion, pushing their luck. Once, Rinto pointed out a tiny ball of orange fluff and declared this to be a shrimp. In fact, quite a few times Rinto would make the sign for shrimp and I would sigh and swim over to peer at a leaf, or grain of sand, and attempt to persuade myself it was a shrimp. On a dive towards the beginning of our experience, Helen called me over and kept enthusiastically pointing at a twig and asking me if I could see it. See what? A twig? With encouragement, I peered close until I could just about make out a snout and two eyes (if I squinted hard and really believed in it). A pipefish, apparently. Five minutes later on the same dive I excitedly gestured for Helen to come over and pointed sarcastically at an actual twig. When the sarcasm hit home, Helen collapsed into her first ever underwater giggle fit, which of course set me off laughing too—causing Rinto to look over in concern as we convulsed underwater (between giggles I was giving Rinto the ‘ok’ sign again and again to try and allay his suspicions that we might be suffering an attack of some sorts).
As well as ridiculous levels of banal camouflage, Lembeh Strait dished up some of the most amazingly weird creatures I’ve ever seen. High up on the list was just the head of an eel poking up out of the sand with its jaws open but locked down upon a juvenile cowfish (Helen said she could see the cowfish’s eye moving, but unfortunately, none of the rest of it). There was also a mimic octopus, whose short body and long elaborate tentacles changed colour and shape when we moved near. A blue-ringed octopus the size of my hand looked sandy coloured until we approached and then broke out with bright blue rings covering its entire body. We gently hovered our hands over it to see the blue rings and it was only upon returning to land (where Helen geeked out on the marine research from that day’s diving) that we discovered it was in fact highly venomous
We saw cuttlefish galore, the smallest of which was half the size of my little fingernail but still glittering away enthusiastically. And on a night dive, a squid gave us an amazing shimmering show by torchlight—even hovering in front of Rinto’s torch so we could see through its translucent tentacles as it flashed at us and moved its tentacles in what can only be described as figure dancing.
Mandarinfish Mating
The Lembeh Strait is known as one of the few places to come to see the elusive mandarinfish mating at dusk. We twice caught this beautiful phenomenon. As the light started to fade, we sunk down next to a pier where mandarinfish are known to live.
Mandarinfish are famous as one of the most beautiful fish in the sea, and I can testify this to be the case. They are iridescent blue, green, and purple and covered in lines of shimmering bronze. If you know when and where to go, it’s relatively easy to catch them in their famous courtship ritual. The ritual involves a flamboyant male catching the eye of nearby females by opening up his beautiful shimmery dorsal fin. After sufficient time spent impressing the local females, the male gradually herds them into one area of the reef and then one by one picks out a female. He lines up next to her, connecting side by side so that she rests on his pectoral fin. They rise up together in a flurry of fins for a few seconds before abruptly darting back to the safety of the rock whilst at the same time releasing their eggs and sperm in a tiny puff, to be fertilized in the water column. We watched a large male do this four or five times with different females on each dive—it was pretty special to see.
Better than my description though, you can see mandarinfish mating in this short clip on youtube.
My Final Stopover
From Lembeh we flew to Jakarta, the capital city, a smooth journey apart from the fact the flight was delayed by the airline and then by myself as I almost lost my brand new phone—a feat which involved me running off and on the airplane twice in my search as well as all the airport staff hunting high and low around the gates in case I'd dropped it. It was, of course, in my rucksack the entire time. But in good news, one wonderfully helpful Indonesian airport employee now has an enthusiastic selfie of our relieved faces to remember this incident with.
Photo Above: WE FOUND MY PHONE
In Jakarta, Anto and Bodhy (two new friends we made in Raja Ampat) generously offered us the use of the spare bedrooms available in their houseshare. So we made ourselves at home in their Jakarta mansion (complete with pool) and set about enjoying the luxuries only cities can offer.
We explored Jakarta’s vegan food scene—including impressing our hosts with surprisingly excellent vegan pizza—went for massages, hunted out oatmilk coffees, and generally rested and restored ourselves ahead of the next leg of the trip.
My final night we went out for dinner, drinks, and a dance, enjoying an… eclectic mix of Western pop music in a Jakarta bar (which all the young Indonesians knew off by heart). The only downside was that the roads were empty enough that Sam never got to experience his dream—a taste of the the insane traffic that Jakarta is infamous for (Helen and I weren't exactly sad about this). Finally, it was time to split ways and so it was I bid adieu to Helen and Sam at Jakarta airport as they set off to their next destination in Sumatra and I headed back to sub-zero temperatures in the UK.
They also don't like people who tends to play the victim.
They also hate people who manipulates and people who pretends to be someone who they're not.
Some people might call them sometimes they're lazy, and they really, really, hate that. It pushes their buttons. I'm hearing, “So you think a person's lazy when they just needed a break?”
They don't like being lied to is what I'm strongly feeling. They don't like be tricked, manipulated, and believing something true that turns out to be false.
I'm specifcally hearing that they don't actually like staying in their hometown or country. They would definitely wanna move out there someday and live somewhere out of the country.
Hope that resonates! Take care of yourself and stay beautiful 🖤
My feedback: YIEIIEE, I'm happy to hear that they have the same interests as me. And I definitely feel that's true! <3 I mean, I would never wanna be with someone who doesn't appreciate art, music, and literature as much as I do, LOL. You may be right saying that they could be quite logical and a night owl. I've also been getting that their love language would be something like acts of service :') So this totally resonates. Thank you very much for your time and energy! 🖤
As for your questions: Oh, I don't know if I can call them gifts, tbh. And it's not just me, but some in my family have it too. It's really nothing special to me, it's more like a problem even especially if I see something negative LOL. So yeah, it is scary even if they come from God too, HAHAH. And lastly, I have gone through a few different types of Christianity because of moving to different schools a lot when I was younger; Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal, and Protestant. And now I don't really wanna label myself a certain type of Christian, what's only important to me is my relationship with God :) That's all <3 Thank you and I hope you'll have a wonderful day too!
How Much Does The Kayaking Boat Cost In India ?
Tumblr media
The differences in brands and materials, they can cost anywhere from $1000 to over $6000. A typical polyethylene sea kayak will set you back between $1800 and $2000. One of the two types of canoes commonly utilised for enjoyment and sport is the kayak. It was invented by Greenlandic Eskimos and afterwards adopted by Alaskan Eskimos. It features a pointed bow and stern, no keel, and is completely enclosed except for a cockpit where the paddler or paddlers sit, facing forward and paddling with a double-bladed paddle. The kayak was often constructed for one person, although it could also be designed for two or three. The Eskimos made kayaks by draping seal or other animal skins over a driftwood or whalebone frame and waterproofing the covering with animal grease. After rolling over, the paddler wore an overlapping shield to allow the kayak to be righted without shipping water.After rolling over, the paddler wore an overlapping shield to allow the kayak to be righted without shipping (i.e. taking on) water. Eskimo men utilised the kayak for fishing and hunting. Because of the kayak's short draught, compact width, and quiet operation, Eskimo hunters were able to explore tiny waterways with considerable stealth, allowing them to harvest more wildlife. The Eskimos gradually abandoned the kayak in favour of motorboats over the twentieth century. See canoeing for information on how to use and build a kayak for modern recreation and sport.
