Hi! Could you write a Rinkah x Female Corrin where Rinkah realizes she's falling in love with Corrin? Maybe they're hanging out in a more relaxed situation, like the hotsprings or at dinner and Rinkah just thinks, "Oh no... I really love her." Pre-relationship pining, love it!
Rinkah is such a captivating character both in her design and her story! It was an absolutely beautiful process to experience the creation of this piece. I had to look into her a little before I began, but I found myself surprised at how well-established she was.
I, too, am a pre-relationship pining enjoyer, my like-minded anon! There's just a buzz that those established-relationship works can't create. Maybe it's the thrill of the chase or even the fulfillment felt from the catch (when the works come that far).
Here, I found myself trying to work with Rinkah's headspace. I wanted to experiment with her reaction to the "what" as well as follow her journey through the "why's". I hope that makes sense.
I also hope that this is to your liking! To you and the others reading this, please feel free to request more from me! My rules are pinned to the top of my blog, so request as much as you'd like after reading those!
The story will be continued under the cut.
Dipping her toes into the water, Rinkah sighed at its warmth. A soak in the bathhouse was just what she needed to close out her day.
Training took up most of her time today, as it always did on the days after she worked her shift selling weapons. It was nothing particularly challenging; she simply ran through drills to improve her stamina and then had a light spar with Hinata.
Nonetheless, soreness still managed to settle into her muscles. It would be unlike her not to give her best efforts, even in training.  As such, she felt her muscles tense up and then relax as she sank into the water. It was refreshing, yet calming. A sensation that she found herself enjoying while lowering herself deeper and deeper. Eventually, the only part above the water was her head.
Rinkah allowed her eyelids to close and her head to rest back against the ledge of the bath. The warrior’s mind cleared itself, and she began to grow drowsy. A short break for her body was in order, but she would not neglect giving her thoughts a rest, as well.
The occasional bubbling of the water formed white noise while she drifted off.
Until she heard the door from one of the changing rooms slide open and then shut.
Footsteps were beginning to approach her position. Lazily, she opened her eyes and turned her head.
She froze at the sight of her leader. Then, she felt her body tense up once more as her voice carried through the bathhouse.
“Oh, Rinkah! I didn’t expect to meet you here.”
At the sound of Corrin’s greeting, Rinkah’s mind came to life and went into overdrive. Hot springs were meant to relax someone’s spirit, but she felt so far from the feeling that she began to question if what she felt but a moment ago was even real.
That brought up the question; why was she so tense? Rinkah had seen the forms of many of the women in the army during her trips to the bathhouse, but seeing Corrin’s made her feel…different. It was suddenly weird in a way that made her want to look elsewhere. Not because the noble was unattractive (far from it, she thought), but for another reason she could not quite grasp.
“Were you hoping to be alone?”
“That’s not what I meant,” Corrin smiled. “I just…I hadn’t seen you all day today, so I suppose I just thought you were out on the mission with Saizo, Mozu, and Ryoma.”
“I did train today, but nothing quite that difficult.”
“Really?” The dragon princess slid along the side of the warm pool of water next to Rinkah. Once she was down in a sitting position, she looked to her, “What did that consist of?”
“Nothing notable enough to discuss,” Rinkah returned, stifling a yawn.
“Oh.”
“And you? I’m certain your day would be much more interesting to hear about.”
“Well, I suppose it was quite a long- wait… You want to listen to me talk about my day?”
Rinkah’s brows furrowed. Would that really be so unlike her? “What? We are friends, yes?”
“Yes! Of course we’re friends! And you’ve come a long way from when we first met; I’m so happy you think of us as such!”
“Don’t push it. Get on with your story, before I find this to be something I regret.”
“If you say so,” she smiled. For the second time, Rinkah counted.
The tale of her activities began when she woke up, of course. Her waking hour was early, the snow-haired woman noted, with her rising at least an hour before the sun ever would.
“Why get up so soon?”
Corrin shrugged. An easy motion. “I suppose it’s just a habit I’ve yet to shake from when I lived in Nohr. I would always go train before the sun rose; sometimes with Gunter and sometimes with Xander. Honestly, I struggle to get out of bed in the mornings, but that doesn’t mean I can fall back asleep easily. So then isn’t it better to get on with the day instead of lying in bed staring at the ceiling?”
Rinkah nodded her assent. She understood the need to be contributing something, whether that be to herself, her tribe, or the rest of the army.
The silver-haired royal then went on to detail her training with Subaki. Apparently, he was an early riser as well.
But Rinkah didn’t care about that so much as what the training consisted of. From what she gathered, all the pegasus rider did was avoid her attacks as she practiced aiming and perfecting her strikes.
Pathetic. Subaki was a priss afraid of messing up a decent hairdo. She could have trained Corrin far better in both her offensive and defensive skills within that time.
…where did that thought come from? She had just trained with Corrin not but two days ago in the afternoon. If anything, shouldn’t she be happy her commander got more training in with others? It was important to be versatile to remain safe. He would help her with her agility and her form; two things that were very much not at the center of Rinkah’s own training routine.
“...had breakfast with Orochi. We talked about my mother…erm…the late Queen Mikoto…the whole time! Well, I guess it would be more accurate to say she talked and I listened to her stories. I learned that mother once swam with her slippers on, and…”
How boring it must have been to listen to Orochi drone over a meal. She always tended to go on about the silliest little details in her stories, anyway. In Rinkah’s mind, stories should be either important, informative, or entertaining.
But she supposed it was important, specifically to the ally soaking across from her. Corrin never truly got to know her mother, after all. If these stories were the closest thing she would get, Rinkah could be happy for her. That was all part of being a friend, like Corrin had shown her.
“...worked with Silas to restock the lottery tent. It didn’t take as long as we thought, so with the leftover time we had, we spent some time together just talking…”
Seriously? There were so many better ways to spend one’s free time than just…talking with someone else. Like training, which she would have been happy to help with if Corrin showed up during the session she did, today.
Rinkah knew what it was to desire familiar company, though. What she wouldn’t give to be able to choose to talk with one of the other women from the flame tribe. Even if it were only her father, she would happily do so in exchange for even a brief return to normalcy. Besides, she found herself wishing she could chat with the princess more, herself. At a time and place where she wasn’t so tense, of course.
Enough. Really, what was wrong with her head? It’s like every little thing someone else did with Corrin wasn’t good enough. What for? Because Rinkah thought she herself could do better? In truth, Rinkah knew she could never converse with her as naturally as the others did. Lately, the more she tried, the worse she fared.
I’m going to stop this, the princess of the flame tribe told herself. This next time, I’m going to only think positive things about her interaction.
Well, the next thing she brought up was how she went shopping for weapons with Reina. Once they had bought enough yumis and katanas, they went to have Jakob forge them.
Reina was a superior choice. If anyone would know which instruments of war were best to buy, it would be her. Alongside that, she was certain Jakob was a skilled forger. Corrin had earlier disclosed that Jakob has mastered many skills in the hopes of assisting her to the fullest. It would be unbelievable if he had skipped weapon forging on his “checklist of mastery”. Even so, Rinkah was certain she could forge a weapon better than he could in half the tim-
No. That thought needed to leave her mind immediately. No she could not, she reminded herself. She still had so much to learn about the Hoshidans’ culture and weapons. She didn’t even know how to string a yumi, much less how to forge one. Or shurikens, for that matter. There were so many weapons she had never been exposed to before leaving her tribe. If anything, she would have taken days in comparison to the hours Jakob took to make her weapons stronger.
Maybe these thoughts were the result of a day well spent. After working all day to get stronger, it was no wonder she would believe herself superior to others. Well then, if she couldn’t think nice things about Corrin’s friends, she wouldn’t think at all.
Rinkah allowed herself to return to her relaxed state. Slowly, her friend’s soft tone of voice began to fade in and out of focus. She watched as the princess’s lips formed each syllable of the words she spoke.
They looked so soft, probably because of the steam. She almost wanted to…
…wait. What?
The thought came so casually that Rinkah was caught off guard.
What Rinkah wanted was to kiss her.
Realizing it made her chest feel light, but it wasn’t just about her lips, was it? She grew tense the moment Corrin entered the room, she blushed at her figure, and she wanted to spend her whole day with the woman. Even if she only got to listen to her go on like this when all was said and done, she felt something like adrenaline just from how close they were.
Then this…wasn’t just a surface level feeling? Because Rinkah didn’t just “like” Corrin.
She loved her, and it made her want to hug and punch something at the same time.
“...Rinkah? Is there something on my face?”
Oh. She was still staring at her lips.
“No,” she huffed, giving the Hoshidan royal a smirk, “but it sounds like you had a busy day. You and I should get some rest to be ready for tomorrow.”
She rose out of the water, fighting the cloudiness in her head and the weariness of her body as she navigated towards the ladies’ room to change. From behind her, she could hear Corrin call out after her.
“Before you go back…would you like to spend some time with me tomorrow? I did so much talking, it’s only fair for me to listen to you in return over lunch.”
“Sure. Why don’t you come find me when you’re ready? I’ll be waiting.”
Once she was alone in the changing room, she began to dry off and dress into a fresh change of clothes.
It looked like Rinkah would get the chance to show Corrin just how much better a day spent with her could be.

ty! can u share sm rinkah x aki hcs?? (or maybe f!corrin x aki or azura x aki??)
Oh I have SO many. Here's just a small sampling:
Aki is pretty bad at cooking but Rinkah is decent, so when they're making food for themselves, Rinkah does the cooking. And Aki just has to tolerate it being way overcooked sometimes, because Rinkah likes her fish charred black (that part's canon to the games).
They go to the mountains to spend time together, like, ALL the time. Going on a date? Mountains. Training? Mountains. Spending some time away from the busy castle? Yup, it's MOUNTAINS.
One of the ways Aki realized her feelings for Rinkah is that she would go to the smithy to pick up weapons, horseshoes, etc. and she would actually look forward to it, even though she didn't enjoy being around fire.
If you're still hungry for more, I have the tag on my blog thirty ways to build a fire. Most of the pieces are around 1,500-2,000 words long, and the majority is Aki x Rinkah stuff.
I'm gonna go with platonic headcanons for the other two:
Aki is pretty shy to start off, and looks up to Corrin and Azura for different reasons. She admires how Corrin is brave, even in the face of danger, and stands steadfastly by what she believes in. She wishes she could have the same conviction.
For Azura, it's mainly looking up to her as a musician. Aki's pretty good at respecting others' boundaries, and showing an interest in other cultures without disrespecting them, so Azura allows Aki to learn a song in the Vallan language.
Aki and Corrin head the book club, and Jasper, Caeldori and Soleil are regular attendees. It ends up being a little bit of a babysitting club as well.
...But Aki doesn't like romance books, so she ends up being off to the side doing her own thing while the kids are engrossed in what Corrin is reading.

Entry 98: Ad Hoc World Building
I would like to make a retraction. Last time, I said Corrin and Azura could just return to Valla using the lake warps. This is incorrect. In the Conquest chapter The Black Pillar, it is mentioned that only Corrin and Azura can use this warp. For some reason. That is never explained. Presumably because they’re from Valla, but why that matters I do not know.
This leads me to a big problem I have with this game. Its plot and word building are ad hoc, made up on the spot to smooth over plotholes. The game needs Corrin to return to Valla via the canyon later, so it has some random line about the lakes not working. It can’t have Azura explain the plot, so there’s some dumb curse that prevents her from saying anything. The game needs Corrin, and only Corrin, to know about Garon, so there’s a random crystal ball that breaks immediately.
It’s bad writing.
Revelation Chapter 9: Wanderer
The chapter begins with Garon monologuing about how Corrin knows about the game’s plot now. Fortunately, his evil plans will kill Corrin soon enough mwahaha. Lissa overhears this and decides to tell Xander. Camilla stops Elise and encourages her to hang back and watch how things unfold, even though she admits that Garon isn’t acting right.
Corrin’s team climbs up the Eternal Stairway and runs into some Faceless. Who happen to actually be Wind Tribe soldiers, because this plotline was recycled from Birthright. Kaze kills them, Iago laughs, yada yada yada. When Corrin arrives at the Wind Tribe, the game says that Kaze only beat them up. With a knife. Something tells me they aren’t getting up anytime soon. Fuga shows up and says he heard Corrin wants to destroy both Nohr and Hoshido. Fuga doesn’t believe Corrin’s claim that the real bad guy is an evil dude no one knows about that she can’t tell anyone about, because Fuga isn’t a fucking moron.
Rinkah shows up randomly and joins Corrin because of her life debt. Fuga decides to give Corrin a test to see if they’re trustworthy. Now, the opening cutscene of this chapter uses the map from Birthright Chapter 9, and the plot is largely recycled from that chapter, so naturally the fight is a recreation of Conquest Chapter 20. Welcome back to Fuga’s Wild Ride, fuckers!
After the battle, talks about Sumeragi and Yato and how it can kill gods and gives us Hayato and sends us to go to Izumo blah blah blah we’ve seen this before.
Support: Keaton/Nyx
C: Keaton tells Nyx to eat meat so she grows up big and strong.
B: Keaton brings her pork. Nyx explains that she is cursed and will not grow up. Keaton is confused by where all the food goes. Does he not understand excrement?
A: Nyx explains her entire backstory. Keaton finally gets it. He tells her she can act like a kid and not get in trouble, something she has no desire to do.
S: Keaton asks what Nyx wants more than anything. Nyx says an adult's body and a normal life. Keaton proposes.
Review: Keaton is painfully dumb in this one.
Support: Kaze/Xander
C: Xander and Kaze discuss their first meeting. Xander reveals he was hesitant to kill Kaze because executing such a graceful man would have been dishonorable.
B: Xander challenged Kaze to a duel. During their duel, Xander notices that Kaze's expression has changed since their original fight. Kaze explains he is now fighting for companions, instead of his country, which is easier. Apparently, he wasn't fighting for companions in Hoshido.
A: Kaze and Xander's duel ends in a draw. Xander admits that, unlike Kaze, he has doubt in his actions. Kaze helps Xander push forward on the path he believes in (the path that leads to Kaze's friends, brother, and country dying at Xander's hand). The two warriors say it has been an honor to fight together.
Review: Not bad, but I was left wanting more.
Support: Peri/Silas
C: Silas informs Peri that she has a bad reputation. Peri gets upset.
B: Peri says, and I quote, "I'm so mad, I could slice up a puppy!" Silas says he talked to Xander about Peri and decides to not antagonize Peri because Xander likes her. To himself, Silas decides to tell Xander to reign Peri in.
A: Silas offers himself as a victim for Peri. When Peri attacks, he blocks every blow. Silas realizes why Xander keeps Peri around, because she's strong and also because Xander is a piece of shit. Silas makes Peri agree to work her agression out on him, rather than the servants.
S: Silas proposes but tells Peri not to kill his family's servants.
Review: I really, really don't like Peri. She's a black hole of bad writing that makes every character who doesn't chop her head off complicit.
Support: Jakob/Selena
C: Jakob criticizes Selena for shopping and points out she's bought too much to carry back. Jakob refuses to help carry and Selena chases after him.
B: Jakob reveals he tricked her into being angry because spite is the most efficient fuel in all the world. Selena sees through this and figures out he ditched her because he's a jerk.
A: Jakob asks what drives Selena. She says there's no point in being anything but the best. Selena compliments Jakob's knitting.
S: Jakob says that Selena is the best at being loved by him. Selena demands she be the only one he loves.
Review: Jakob and Selena have a good dynamic, but this one's plot is a bit lacking.

HI I'M SUPER LATE. I saw your request for Reina fic ideas and I absolutely adore her. Please feel free to disregard this if you've moved on!
Personally I think her dynamic with Orochi could be interesting because they both were close with Mikoto so there's some history there.
Also this has like no basis in canon, but I think she could be super interesting with Charlotte (totally opposite backgrounds, both kind of aggressive though Charlotte masks it when convenient and Reina is mostly only like that in battle, really focused on wealth/stability/comfort vs. could probably have easily had those things if she wanted but followed her desire to be a knight, etc.).
Also Rinkah/Reina and Reina/Scarlet. Just because I think they'd be neat.
Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions! I haven't moved on from Reina at all, I actually ended up putting it on hold in the hopes someone would eventually respond to that post!
I’m currently working on a birthday celebration fic for Cherche (that ended up way too focused on not her so thats fun) so it'll be a little while before I get to Reina but I’ll put her on the list for what I’ll do next.
I never even considered Reina x Scarlet but I’m a huge Scarlet fan and I can already see some really interest dynamics in my head, Charlotte as well has so much potential with the dynamics you mentioned, I never noticed just how similar they were despite having complete opposite upbringings and goals.
I feel like Oboro as well has a lot of potential since I mean, Mikoto’s retainers were basically a lesbian harem, her and Reina probably have history even outside of their shared mourning.
Also I completely agree about Rinkah x Reina being neat, that pairing checks so many of my boxes I’m honestly kinda tempted to have them top an incredibly submissive Corrin at some point. (Though I think I’ll need a break from threesomes after this current fic lol)

Could I get a yandere leo x reader where she says your so lucky leo everyone loves you. You probably have to beat girls off with a stick cus your so handsome.
Asfjkdl I got you anon. I went ahead and went with a drabble, I hope that’s what you wanted- and I hope you like it!
It’s been a few weeks now since you joined Corrin’s little army, and you’re starting to get the feeling that you just don’t fit in.
Maybe it’s lack of effort on your part, or maybe you just don’t mesh well with the others, or maybe you joined too late and everyone was already so close you’d always feel like an outsider, but it was starting to seem like you couldn’t get any friendships to stick no matter what you tried. You’d tried approaching Rinkah, only to be told- very bluntly- that she wasn’t interested in any kind of friendship. You’d tried Laslow, and he’d seemed friendly enough, but he wouldn’t stop flirting with you- and anyone else that happened to be in the room at the time. Saizo was a complete non-starter, and you didn’t even want to think about it.
You were running through this list in your head that day at lunch when you took a seat at an empty table tucked in one of the mess hall’s corners- you didn’t really feel like interacting with anyone in the midst of your self-pity. Besides, the corner was… nice. Cozy.
Definitely better than one of the crowded tables full of people laughing and having fun with their comrades and god you should just go over there and introduce yourself, what’s-
“Is this seat taken?”
You jolt, interrupted from your thoughts by the sound of an unfamiliar voice. To your shock, standing opposite you is none other than one of the princes of Nohr- Leo, the younger one. He’s balancing a tray with what looks like some kind of soup in one hand, the other hand resting on the chair in question.
“I- uh- no, no it’s not,” you finally splutter out. He nods.
“May I sit, then?”
You nod, dumbly. This isn’t the first time you’d noticed Leo- far from it, actually. Truthfully, you’d admired him from afar for some time now. I mean, he was- well, him. Handsome, smart, brave, clever. Handsome.
You weren’t his only admirer, you knew. You’d overheard some of the girls in your barracks debating the merits of sending him flowers with anonymous love notes- though, you were pretty sure they hadn’t gone through with it, because just the idea seemed to scare them.
Even aside from them, you’d seen plenty of people around camp casting him admiring looks when he passed by, and you knew some of them made up excuses to go up and talk to him. Not that he ever seemed to have time for them- more often than not, he just brushed them off and walked away, leaving them crestfallen in his wake.
“This is a rather odd choice of seating, if you don’t mind me saying,” the man himself says. “Tell me, why don’t you join the others? I can’t say I’ve ever seen you spending much time with any of your fellow soldiers.”
“Ah- well, that is, I-” you pick at the food on your plate. “I just, uh, don’t really feel like I fit in. I don’t want to intrude, or anything,” you sigh, and your next words are coming out of your mouth before you have time to stop them. “You’re so lucky, Leo. Everyone loves you- you probably have to beat girls off with a stick because you’re so handsome.”
Your face flushes red as you register what you said. Leo flushes too, and you think it’s the first time you’ve ever seen the man anything but perfectly composed.
“Well,” he coughs. “I haven’t exactly- noticed anything like that. Though I’ve been told I’m not the best at such matters.” He straightens up, taking a bite of his soup and regaining his composure. “It hardly matters, anyway. There’s only one girl I have eyes for, though I can’t say she’s given any indication she reciprocates my feelings.”
“Oh,” you say, disappointment washing over you for some strange reason. It’s stupid- you knew you never had a chance with him, now it’s just absolutely confirmed- he already has someone. “Well, I hope it works out for you.”
“This is the first time I’ve found myself at a loss for how to get something I want,” he goes on. “But, if nothing else, she apparently thinks I’m… handsome.”
You flush again, ducking your head down, before putting it together in your head. “Wait, are you talking about....”
“Y/N, I found myself enamored with you since the first time I saw you,” you’re so caught off guard you don’t even realize that you never told him your name. “I can’t seem to get you out of my mind, no matter how hard I try.” He reaches out and takes one of your hands in his, and you’re still too stunned to do anything but let him. Not that you’d fight it even if you weren’t. “Forgive me if this is going too fast but- I want you to be mine. And I’d be yours, of course,” he adds, almost as an afterthought.
“I- Leo-” this has to be a dream. But it’s such a good one, you can’t bring yourself to want to wake up. “That sounds amazing.”
He smiles, all confident and composed once more, any trace of nerves completely gone from his posture. It’s only then that you start to notice how his grip on your hand is just a little too tight, the look in his eye just a little too- possessive.
“I’m glad. I promise, Y/N, you won’t regret this- I’ll make you so happy.”

My Fire Emblem Fates Ships!
Hey, since I’m back, I thought I’d share my Fates otps! A good friend of mine told me to pair up whoever I want and forget stats and that’s what I wanted to do. I’m only halfway through Birthright but I already planned ahead on who I want to pair up for my playthrough in Revelation! I love to obsess over them so I’m posting them here! (Please respect my pairings, all have different opinions here) Here we go!
Neutral:
Corrin x Kaze
Jakob x Azura
Silas x Hinoka
Hoshido:
Ryoma x Felicia (A leftover pair but I fell in love with them)
Takumi x Rinkah
Saizo x Kagero
Azama x Setsuna
Kaden x Sakura (They were so cute, I could talk about them for hours!)
Hinata x Hana
Subaki x Oboro
Hayato x Mozu (They’re the only two who look the same age besides Sakura)
Nohr:
Xander x Charlotte
Leo x Nyx
Laslow x Peri
Niles x Camilla
Odin x Elise
Benny x Beruka (I actually love their supports because it’s hard for me to talk to people sometimes and my good friend once told be that just enjoying one’s company is all that matters. I totally agree with her)
Keaton x Selena (Tsundere x Tsundere so cute!)
Arthur x Effie
And let’s not forget the children! Even if some of the pairings only allow them to be friends in the game, I imagine them together.
Shiro x Caeldori
Asugi x Sophie ( A personal favourite)
Soleil x Opheila
Dwyer x Rhajat
Kiragi x Mitama
Hisame x Midori
Shigure x Nina
Siegbert x Ignatius
Kana x Percy
Selkie x Velouria
Well I guess the guys with no romantic supports are Orochi and Forrest. Oh well.
Do we have any ships in common? Let me know in a reply! Have a good day!

Entry 8: Rinkah’s Burning Loins
My Castle
After fully dedicating ourselves to Hoshido, the game finally really begins. We’re given access to a customizable castle in the Astral Plane where our army waits between battles. We can talk to our units, giving them minor stat boosts or new weapons. Right off the bat, we have a farm and spring to give us resources, rooms for Corrin and Lilith, and a Hall of Records.
In Lilith’s spring, we can feed her to make her level up. Different foods affect her stats in different ways. Note that, although Lilith now has stats, she isn’t usable in battle. Other players can invade our Castle through spotpass, which I’ll discuss in a later entry, and Lilith is only usable in those battles.
Lilith
Lilith is a weird squirrel dragon thing that floats around clutching a random ball. She used to be our stable girl and is now our pet. I think she has a crush on Corrin. Her design is unique and cute, I like it. Gameplay wise, she can only use a modified Physic staff. I don’t dislike her personality, but she feels like a throwaway character added at the last minute. She raises a ton of questions that I doubt will ever be answered.
In the Hall of Records, we can see descriptions of all the units we’ll ever recruit, rewatch cutscenes, read unreadable poems, and play around with a relationship tester. The relationship tester is randomized, by the way, which kinda makes it pointless. That said, it told me that Corrin expects betrayal from Rinkah, while Rinkah’s loins are set afire by Corrin. This is now canon, I have decided.
In Corrin’s room, we can change their hairstyle and invite an ally over to chill. I chose Kaze. He complimented Corrin’s piano skills, which she apparently has, then stared at us, blushing, while thanking us for saving him from Garon.
So, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. In the Japanese version you get to rub units while in close up mode. Like Pokemon Amie except...with people. This was removed in the English version. A lot of Fire Emblem fans were pissed, crying about censorship because Nintendo of America had the gall to remove the minigame where you rub Camila’s tiddies while she moans. And I’m going to say a hot take right now: they made the right call. That stuff was weird and indulgent. It was the living embodiment of the fanservice focussed design that plagues modern Fire Emblem games. Good riddance.
Inviting allies to Corrin’s cool sex treehouse boosts our support levels. I suppose it's time I mentioned that. In Fire Emblem games, units form bonds from fighting next to each other, unlocking short conversations that flesh them out as characters. Units also fight together better when they have high supports. Now, here’s the fun thing about supports:
There are more than 600 supports in this game. Not support conversations, support lines, each of which is made up of three or four conversations. And, because God has cursed me for my hubris and my work is never finished, I’m going to read all of them.
Admittedly, I’m not going to unlock all of them. S-Rank conversations result in marriages and each unit only gets one. It’d take a few dozen playthroughs to get all of Corrin’s S-Rank conversations and I don’t hate myself that much, so I’m reading the transcripts from the wiki. I think I’m going to do four supports per Entry; that’ll leave me with a few extra by the time we reach the end, but I’ll just do a support grab bag entry or something.
Before we do supports, let’s finish up improving the castle. I built a weapon shop and a statue of Corrin that boosts her max speed. We are limited on the number of buildings we can build, but that isn’t a big deal yet because the only other option was to build a stave shop.
Support: Corrin/Rinkah
C: Corrin attempts to discuss battle tactics with Rinkah, but Rinkah blows her off and tells her to stop trying to be friends. Rinkah does acknowledge that Corrin’s authority and that Corrin saved her life, but tells the princess leave her alone.
B: Corrin pesters Rinkah until she explains why she’s so aloof. Rinkah explains that, the Flame Tribe keeps a great flame burning in the center of the village to honor the God of Fire. In the past, outsiders have extinguished the fire. One such instance was followed by a volcanic eruption that decimated the tribe. As a rule, the people of the Flame Tribe are wary of outsiders. Rinkah also explains that she’s working for Hoshido because her father commanded her to, much to her chagrin.
A: Rinkah explains that she would have preferred to die an honorable warrior’s death than be captured and resents Corrin for sparing her. Corrin says that she’s glad Rinkah is still alive, because it means Rinkah and her can be friends. Corrin also says that, despite the chaos of war, she believes in fate and its ability to bring people together. Corrin encourages Rinkah to use this opportunity to learn more about the outside world and bring that knowledge home with her. Rinkah begrudgingly agrees.
This is how the conversation will end on my playthrough, but if Corrin has a penis, you can get an S-Rank proposal conversation. I’ll be listing all of these off along with the normal conversations.
S: Rinkah comes to Corrin, blushing, and tells him that he has been a constant reminder of her shame and regret over being captured. But, over time, these feelings were replaced with love. Love that she hated, because Corrin is an outsider. Corrin says that he’s loved Rinkah since the day they met and only told her to be friendly to other people as an excuse to spend time with her. Rinkah states that, from now on, she will remember her capture as the happiest day of her life and the two get married.
Review: I really like this support line. It expands Rinkah’s backstory and culture, ties it into Corrin’s own isolation and belief in fate, and deals with the tumultuous meeting they had in Chapter 2. The confession comes out of nowhere, admittedly, but I do like Rinkah grappling with her mixed feelings of hate and love. Solid support.
Support: Corrin/Jakob
C: Corrin comes to Jakob to ask for a favor. Jakob interrupts her by humorously listing off the things he would do for Corrin. Things like slay dragons for her, which is actually kinda offensive now that I think about it. Corrin begs Jakob to allow her to be independent and Jakob refuses. Corrin explains that she’s his boss and he tells her that servitude is his reason for living. Jakob explains that, when he started working for Corrin, he was incompetent, and her kindness towards him made him indebted to her. The two compromise on the agreement that Jakob will teach Corrin how to make tea. After Corrin leaves, Jakob mumbles to himself that things might get apocalyptic.
B: Corrin repeatedly tries and fails to make a decent cup of tea. Both of them get some funny lines in, with Corrin telling Jakob that she can’t hear him because she’s ignoring him and Jakob saying that, saying that they’ll run out of leaves before Corrin makes decent tea. They meaning the nation in this case. Corrin eventually makes a passable cup, after Jakob secretly adds in sugar.
A: Jakob admits to Corrin that he messed with her tea and she laughs it off, admitting that she knew all along. She apologizes for being stubborn and accepts that she still needs Jakob’s help sometimes. Jakob says that he falls apart without Corrin. Corrin says that the two of them are alike in that way and Jakob literally faints from joy.
S: Jakob is acting more distant than normal. When Corrin asks him about this, he admits that he’s fallen for her and resigns from his duties as butler, because it is improper for him to have feelings for his mistress. Corrin begs him to say because she needs him and admits that she loves him too. The two of them get embarrassed and Corrin fires Jakob, giving him the new job of husband.
Review: This was a hilarious support that really made me appreciate Jakob’s snarky yet loyal personality. He is the perfect butler. The conflict of Corrin wanting to be independent and Jakob wanting to take care of her is a good dynamic that made me appreciate the relationship between these two characters. I do like them more as a platonic couple than a romantic one, but Jakob quitting his job because falling in love with Corrin is improper is a nice character moment.
Support: Corrin/Kaze
C: A villager gives Kaze a bunch of radishes because he’s super hot. And I mean, he is. Kaze apparently doesn’t realize that he’s hot until Corrin explains it to him. Kaze mentions that he dislikes the attention because he isn’t a good person before running off.
B: Corrin asks Kaze to follow her around so she can figure out what’s bothering him. Kaze says no, so Corrin annoys him until he agrees to hang out with him. Then he runs away again.
A: Kaze admits to Corrin that it was his fault that Garon kidnapped her, because when he was a child, he noticed the Nohrian soldiers that killed Sumeragi were in the city but said nothing about it. I don’t know how that makes Corrin’s kidnapping his fault, you’d expect there to be soldiers guarding a king. And the fact that Kaze was there means that there were also Hoshido soldiers, which means there was no reason to be suspicious of the Nohrians. Also, Kaze was a teenager at the oldest, so he should probably get some leeway. Whatever. Kaze apologizes to Corrin and Corrin, in turn, apologizes for making him live with guilt for fifteen years. Corrin also points out that Kaze led her home, meaning that they’re even now. Kaze compares Corrin to Mikoto because of her kindness and pledges to serve Corrin as her loyal retainer.
S: Corrin and Kaze joke around about Corrin’s kidnapping. It’s cute. Corrin mentions that, now that she’s spent so much time offscreen with Kaze, she likes him even more. Kaze blurts out that he loves Corrin, despite being her bodyguard, and the two propose.
Review: I found this chain a bit lacking, to be honest. The first two conversations were filler and the origin for Kaze’s guilt complex is kinda dumb. Kaze’s relationship with Corrin defines him as a character. He is so guilt ridden over her kidnapping that he would betray his country and his family to protect her. Later parts of the game hinge on this relationship. But, three of their four conversations are dull. I do like Kaze’s guilt complex as a concept, and think becoming Corrin’s retainer alongside Jakob and/or Felicia and a way to repent, but it isn’t enough to save this support line.
Support: Kaze/Rinkah
C: Kaze gets a bunch of candy for being hot and shares it with Rinkah, who secretly loves candy.
B: Kaze continues to give Rinkah candy.
A: Kaze continues to give Rinkah candy.
S: Kaze reveals that he’s been giving Rinkah candy because he’s in love with her.
Review: This one was a big let down. The fact that Kaze and Rinkah are introduced together made me think it would be about their capture, but no. It’s just Kaze giving Rinkah candy for four conversations straight. And it’s cute fluff, but it’s nothing more than that. There is something interesting below the surface with Rinkah hiding her love of candy to protect her image, but it’s never really explored.
So, off to a mixed start with the support conversations.
Birthright Chapter 7: A Vow Upheld
Team Corrin heads to a Hoshidan fort where Sakura is tending to wounded soldiers. We are introduced to Sakura’s retainers, Subaki and Hana. Suddenly, the fort is attacked by Nohrian forces. Corrin and Azura point out the ridiculousness of them attacking immediately after they arrived. Sakura freaks out because the fort is being used as a hospital and has no military value. So apparently Nohr is now being evil just to be evil.
Subaki and Hana agree to help Corrin defend the fort and argue over who’s more important to Sakura, much to her annoyance. Subaki and Hana give me a good opportunity to discuss a few interesting things about classes in this game. First off, unlike in most Fire Emblem games, classes are NOT gender-specific, as demonstrated by Subaki being the first male Pegasus Knight in the series. Secondly, the classic Fire Emblem classes were divided between the two nations. Nohr got Mercenaries, Hoshido got Myrmidons. Nohr got Wyvern Riders, Hoshido got Pegasus Knights. Etc. I really like this, it gives the two countries different feels in combat both aesthetically and mechanically. Finally, a lot of Hoshidan classes were renamed to be more Eastern, shown by Hana being a Samurai instead of a Myrmidon, or by Sakura being a Shrine Maiden instead of a Cleric.
Subaki
Subaki is a Sky Knight, this game’s equivalent of a Pegasus Knight. He can fly over terrain and has good speed and resistance, but is decimated by arrows. His personal skill buffs his hit and avoid when he has full health. Design wise, I like how ridiculously smug he looks. Personality wise, he seems over-competitive yet fiercely loyal to Sakura.
Hana
Hana is a Samurai with high speed and skill. Her personal skill damaged nearby enemies when she scores a kill. Her design is fine, if a little bland. Personality wise, she seems over-competitive yet fiercely loyal to Sakura.
Starting with this chapter, we have a prep menu, where we can choose which units to use and rearrange them on the map. We can bring our whole team in with us, so it’s a little pointless, but it's nice. Worth noting that you can have units start in pair up via this menu, unlike in Awakening where you had to pair them up after the battle started.
At the start of the battle, the chapter’s boss, a Cavalier named Silas, shouts out to Corrin that he’s her childhood best friend. She does not remember him even slightly. Okie dokie.
This map is decent. It’s a bit short, but it features a lot of good bottlenecks. The Dragon Veins can be used to open heal tiles, which is a bit pointless because you have two healers. When Silas and Corrin fight, he reiterates that they used to be friends. Corrin says that she can’t remember her past. And that confuses me, because I was under the impression that she got amnesia when she was taken to Nohr, which would have been before she met Silas. Unless he’s lying.
After the battle, Corrin refuses to kill Silas. She interrogates him about why he was so hesitant to attack them and he explains that, when they were children, he helped Corrin sneak out of the walls to have a picnic. The guards tried to execute Silas for this, but Corrin stopped them, because apparently guards listen to small children. Because of this, Silas feels he owes a debt to Corrin.
Question. Why was this random child allowed to play with the super secret hostage princess? Whatever.
Corrin eventually recovers a vague memory of Silas and asks him to join the gang. She explains that Garon is crazy and evil and that’s enough to make him swap sides. Silas is now officially the most sane character in the game. I mean, he should have probably realized this stuff before being sent to destroy a hospital for shits and giggles, but still.
Also, Silas mentions that Corrin’s favorite food is surf and turf. Perhaps this symbolizes how Corrin is stuck between both kingdoms? Or maybe it’s a random throwaway line. You be the judge!
At the end of the chapter, Saizo and a new character named Orochi show up, wounded, and report that Takumi and Ryoma have gone missing. Uh oh.
Team Corrin decide to help search for the missing princes. Sakura decides to come along, despite Corrin and Kaze’s objections. Silas also decides to come along and Saizo points out that he totally could be a spy or traitor. He’s a dick, but he is infinitely smarter than Kaze.
