Daily Ray Fact:
*these are starting to get away from me 😅 whoops. Here's the actual fact*
The Tiger River Ray is a species of freshwater ray. This endangered species is endemic to black- and whitewater rivers in the upper Amazon basin in northeastern Peru. So little is known about its population and reproductive habits that it is impossible to say what its status is in the wild.

Ok but do you KNOW that you got me into Jean Fics with your characterization of him in TNOTG? That his character was my undoing?
The line about him choosing love while Andrew chose violence or smth???
Do you know that your Jean is practically post canon foretelling. *smushes your face * DO YOU KNOW?!
ACH and so it is............. so many things riding on my little shoulders at that time! so funny that a lot of it ended up being right. wow! but i guess it could be real now............... i shouldve written past kevjean shouldnt i? but i guess i did in a way.......... it was implied enough wasnt it. HONESTLY..!! jean has truly come such a long way
(face smushed) i understand i know........ even kevins therapy journey! perhaps i was cooking up 3 years ago what would inevitably become the sunshine court. much to think about!

The 260-foot depths of the upper Mekong River are home to some of the rarest fish in the world. Last week fishers were stunned when they brought out a 13-foot-long giant freshwater stingray, weighing nearly 400 pounds, from the murky depths. (It quickly was measured and released.)

Stingray Found in Cambodia Sets Record for World’s Largest Freshwater Fish
The enormous fish is 13 ft long and weighs 661 lbs
The world’s largest freshwater fish, a 13-foot-long, 661-pound stingray, has been discovered in the Mekong River in Cambodia. Scientists say the animal is a hopeful sign for the river, which faces threats from human encroachment and development, damming and climate change, per a statement from FISHBIO, a fisheries and environmental consulting company.
The giant freshwater stingray (Urogymnus polylepis) was caught on June 13 by a local fisherman, who alerted scientists from the Wonders of the Mekong project, a joint Cambodian-U.S. research and outreach initiative.
The Mekong River, which runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, is home to several giant fish species. This particular section—south of Stung Treng in northeastern Cambodia—may be an important breeding ground for the stingrays; four females of the species, including this one, have been caught in the area recently, per the AP. Last month, a group of local fishermen caught a 400-pound female stingray in the same stretch, writes Mongabay’s Carolyn Cowan...

After this 400 pound stingray was accidentally caught by fishermen, it was released back into its natural habitat in the Mekong River. CHHUT CHHEANA, WONDERS OF THE MEKONG.
Excerpt from this story from National Geographic:
As the Mekong River descends into Cambodia from neighboring Laos, flowing languidly past sandbanks and forest-covered islands, it’s hard to imagine the explosion of life that occurs underneath its surface.
In this stretch of river, about 100 miles long, up to 200 billion fish are spawned every year, helping to make the 2,700-mile-long Mekong one of the most fish-rich rivers on the planet. Deep pools reaching down 260 feet serve as refuges for some of the world’s largest and most endangered freshwater fish species.
This biological richness usually remains hidden from human view. But last week it surfaced, literally, as fishers hauled a 13-foot-long giant freshwater stingray, weighing almost 400 pounds, out of the Mekong’s murky depths. The fish had been captured accidentally after it swallowed a smaller fish on a baited hook. Not wanting to kill the female ray, the fishers called a rescue team, which managed to unhook it, weigh and measure it, and release it back to the river unharmed.
The Mekong River, which starts in the Tibetan highlands and runs through six countries on its way to the South China Sea, is recognized as a global biodiversity hotspot, with close to 1,000 species of fish found throughout its system. It supports the largest inland fishery in the world, providing livelihoods for tens of millions of people living in the region.

So, yesterday's most notable event was that I set a building on fire with my latent and uncontrollable psychic powers.
If you think this sounds crazy, so did my therapist who assured me it was just my OCD tendencies and massive guilt complex making me believe this until I described what had happened.
See, I was sitting there at the bus stop with my headphones on and my master playlist with over a thousand songs on shuffle. Then as I'm listening to Fire, Fire by Steam Powered Giraffe the air begins to fill with smoke and I turn around to see flames shooting into the air off the scaffolding. Which, as you might imagine, upset me a bit. No one was injured and the fire crews arrived quickly.
Still, when I told her this my therapist had to take a moment of pause because my luck is what even the most skeptical person in the world would term supernaturally bad. After a bit of thought she told me that it sounded more likely that something, either my latent uncontrollable psychic powers or some kind of guardian spirit or the universe's sense of soundtrack, decided to alert me to the fire instead of me having caused it.
This is, in fact, the single kindest way anyone has ever dealt with the level of magical thinking and self loathing I put up with on a daily basis.

The Xingu River ray, also known as the black diamond stingray, white-blotched river stingray, or polka-dot stingray is a species of of freshwater stingray in the family Potamotrygonidae. It is endemic to the Xingu River basin in Brazil where it inhabits clearer waters with river rock and/ or sand bottoms. Xingu river rays primarily feed upon crustaceans, mollusks, small fish, worms, and other aquatic invertebrates. They are themselves preyed upon by otters, dolphins, crocodilians, large fishing birds, and large predator fish. Female xingu river rays are typically larger than males but both sexes are capable of reaching up to 13 inches (40cms) wide, 30 inches (60cms) long, and 45lbs (20kg) in weight. They sport a fairly short but wide tail and a flat circular body which is a deep black color along the back dotted with white or yellow colored spots. The underside is usually a dusky brown or tan. The Xingu river ray is a venomous stingray that contains venom localized at its dentine spine in its tail which is located just behind the dorsal fin. Used for self-defense, this stinger is tipped with barbs that can rip through flesh when withdrawn. The spines are constantly being shed and replaced, allowing the stingray to sometimes have two stingers as a new stinger grows in to replace the older one. Breeding occurs year round depending on water chemistry and food availability, after a 3 month gestation period the female gives birth to 2-6 pups. Under ideal conditions a xingu river ray may live upwards of 13 years.

Daily Ray Fact:
*Last one and it's kind of a bummer, because there's literally no information on it🙃*
The Rosette River Stingray is also regularly known as the Flower Stingray. It is a freshwater stingray that can be found in the rivers of Northern South America. They are aptly named for the floral design on their disc, which blends in well with sandy river bottoms.

What Is and Isn't a Fish: a List
A list of the animals I discussed in my fish essay, but for those who don't want to scroll through paragraphs of text to find out if an animal is or isn't a fish. Just CTRL+F your way through here!
I'll add onto here more animals whenever I get asked about them being fish. See my fish essay here!
Some notes before you proceed:
Yes, all tetrapods are fish! We are phylogenetically fish, as we are and our ancestors were lobe-finned fish! "Fish" in the phylogenetic sense is a paraphyletic group if you try to exclude tetrapods, so it is frankly impossible.
How come tetrapods aren't listed as fish then? Long answer, read my essay. Short answer, me and other fish accounts tend to operate on the morphological definition of fish, so does most of the world. Here I use the morphological definition of "fish".

At Last, the Atlantic Blue Crab!
A common sight on dinner tables in Canada, America, and Mexico, the blue crab-- also known as the Atlantic blue crab or the Maryland Blue crab (Callinectes sapidus)-- is native to the the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic coast of North America. This species is a bottom dweller, and can occupy a range of habitats from freshwater tributaries to the open bays and gulfs of the ocean itself. At times it may be found at high tide, but most individuals remain submerged at depths up to 36 m (120 ft) deep.
As indicated by its name, the claws and front body of male blue crabs are bright blue. Females are carry a blue tinge, but are largely brown or olive, though the tips of their claws are bright red. Otherwise, the two sexes may be distinguished by the shape of their underside, or "apron"; males have an inverted 'T' shape, while females have a wider, rounder shape. Individuals of both sexes may grow up to 23 cm (9 in) in width, and weigh up to 136 g (0.3 lbs).
Spawning for C. sapidus can occur year-round, but for most populations it peaks in October or November. When females are ready, they travel up estuaries and rivers to where populations of males are more concentrated, and then release pheromones in their urine to attract mates. Male crabs then compete for access, and guard their chosen mates fiercely for up to a week. During this time, the female molts, at which point the male fertilizes her. Afterwards, she may retain her mate's sperm for up to a year, during which time she returns to saltier waters. A female can fertilize 2 million eggs at a time, and will carry them in a mass under her abdomen until they hatch, about a week after fertilization. She may do this as many as 4 times throughout a single mating season.
Once hatched, Atlantic blue crab larvae are released into the ocean. Each larvae spends 30-40 days going through seven larval stages known as zoea; these stages are similar to the instars of a larval insect. However, zoea have hard shells and must molt at each stage of development. After the initial zoea stages, juvenile C. sapidus enter the megalops stage, which lasts 6-20 days. During this time juveniles move from the ocean into the estuaries in which they spawned. Finally, they molt into their final form, which resembles an adult-- albeit much smaller. Both males and females continue to molt throughout the year until they reach their full size. In total, both sexes go through about 25 molts each throughout their lives, which spans about 3 years in the wild.
Blue crabs have a wide and varied diet, as they are omnivores. In their larval stages, Maryland blue crabs consume primarily plankton and detritus. Megalops and adults will feed on clams, mussels, and oysters, small fish, kelp, seaweed, carrion, smaller blue crabs, and animal waste. In turn, both juveniles and adults are food for eels, large fish some sharks, stingrays, and humans. In fact, predation upon larval and sub-adult blue crabs is so heavy that, of 8 million eggs released by the mother, only 1 or 2 typically survive to adulthood.
Conservation status: The Maryland blue crab has not been evaluated by the IUCN. However, in recent decades, fisheries have noticed a severe decline in abundance, likely due to over-harvesting and pollution.
If you send me proof that you’ve made a donation to UNRWA or another fund benefiting Palestinians– including esim donations and verified gofundmes– I’ll make art of any animal of your choosing.

★~ Aquarium date ft. Wriothesley!
HELLOOOOO I know u guys like wrio so much im gonna make another one hehe :p also im not sure if anyone has made something like this before? but if so, please lmk! this will take in modern au, please enjoyyy!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
- aquarium date with wrio wont be that often, it is a pretty big date and he’s often busy with work! but ofcourse he lets his darling pick any date for the weekend.
- you both love admiring and talking about opinions on the sea creature. he would always have his arm around your waist or shoulder.
- i feel like he would LOVE stringrays! he would definitely love xingu river ray (or you could say polkadot ray hehe) and perhaps he would love tiger shark too!
- you both will get those matching crab, octopus or sea turtle headbands! he would be a bit shy wearing it at first but whenever he does anything with you, he’s always full of joy.
- you would definitely watch sea animal shows together! i’d say his favourite is the orca one, he even took a picture with them! most people will take the front seat but wrio prefers the middle row seat, he doesn’t want to get wet by the splashing..
- at the touch pool area, i would say he loves touching the starfish and stingray! he secretly wants a stingray but.. yeah…
- you both will eat at the penguin restaurant! you can feed penguins there and eat with them! (wrio thinks if you’ll have a date here, the penguin will steal your attention).
bonus!!!
- you will also buy those matching sea turtle/shark/dolphin/seahorse/stingray bracelet! he’s still wearing it until now.
- he keeps the pictures he got from the date and display it at his office. his favourite is the one where you were holding an otter while he was feeding it when a pelican got on top of his head. he always grins at the thought of it again.
~ smal drabble ~
a squeak from the otter was heard, you were holding it in your arms as wrio was giving it some fish. “it wants more, wrio!” you chuckled seeing the otter eats its fish with joy. the staff got ready to take a picture of the cute scene in front. “look at the camera! 1, 2, 3 cheese!” “cheeeseeeee!” “chee-ow!” a click from the camera was heard before you could do anything else. after a click of flash, you looked wriothesley confusingly “what’s wrong, darling?”, the otter in your arms were also cofused. “T-THERES SOMETHING ON MY HEAD!” you failed to notice the pelican on his head, but as you did you giggled while watching wrio getting all tensed up. “maybe he likes you!” you continued giggling. “y/nnn this is not funnyy!” the otter in your arms looked as confusing as ever as the pelican sets foot on the bench you were sitting on and sniffed wrio’s hand. just then you understand what was happening “oh! the pelican wants some fish too!” “o-oh..”. he looks at the pelican oddly and gives him a fish. the pelican flew away after so, and you both giggled at it. the staff watching this feels no worry as long as their tourists are happy.
~~~
thankyou so much for reading this! i hope this all makes sense and im so sorry if theres any mistakes hehe. i hope you enjoyed it and advices are accepted, thankyou!
