Thoughts on the news robron fans? Iain was of course responsible for hell year 2017 and Rebecca. But he also gave us SSW 2016, the first wedding and everything leading up to the reunion 2018.
He never really understood Robert and called him 'born evil' but on the other hand he definitely valued Ryan and gave him plenty of screentime, as well as the whole Christmas episode 2017. And of course he 'introduced' Seb, which I know was a story Ryan was sad to see end when he left the show.
Should this make us more or less optimistic for a robron reunion 3.0?

I will always love Robron and Emmerd*le still holds a special place in my heart despite how crap it is right now but still I will never forgive anyone who was involved in that horrible storyline with Rebecca.
I'm mostly referring here to how even before what happened with Rob and Rebecca that night in the Mill Rebecca was painted as this woman who repeatedly pursued an engaged/married man and when turned down didn't like to take no for an answer.
Then she went to the Mill that night in March 2017 knowing (from Adam) that Rob was drunk and upset. And even when seeing the state of him. Even hearing him say he didn't remember texting her (because he was so drunk). Even hearing him talk about how upset he was about Aaron. Even seeing how he could barely stand up. She still stayed and decided to sleep with him.
I still don't get how there are people who see Rebecca's behavior from the time she arrived (which was homophobic and disparaging towards Aaron right from the jump btw) and especially in the "ONS" episode yet still defend her. If the reverse had happened and Rebecca had been drunk and crying and upset over someone she was married to. If she had previously repeatedly refused Rob then decided to try it on with him when she drunk and vulnerable and he used that to his advantage to get her in bed people would have rioted.
I also don't get how it was the show runners/writer's intentions to seemingly paint Rob as the villain in all of this who took advantage of poor Rebecca when that was never how things were portrayed with them before the "ONS" and it certainly was not how the episode itself was made out to look.
It just feels like people too often don't seem to care when it comes to the sexual assault of men especially when it's men who have been hurt by women. I know statistically it's men who assault and rape women but the reverse does happen. And I know it's been years since this episode aired but it's something I still think about especially since I'm a survivor sexual abuse myself.
No matter what Rob's intentions were the night he slept with Rebecca he wasn't coherent enough to give a conscious yes. Not to mention he was in an emotionally vulnerable state which would have affected his ability to make clear decisions even more.
All of this was made all the worse by the fact that the show chose to pretend none of the consent issues even existed. They went on to make Rob the bad guy in most of his interactions with Rebecca afterwards. They also never even let Aaron get angry with her for pretending to be their friend and then taking advantage of his husband as soon as he was in jail.
And like the show knew a lot of people had issues with that episode and with Rebecca and still chose to keep her around for a long long time afterward. Not just in the village but like forever an interloper in Robron's lives until the day she left. It honestly put a damper on the show for me from the "ONS" ep onward. I can't ever see her and Robron and not think of what she did. It wasn't about the baby or her getting in the way of Robert and Aaron it was because what she did to Rob was wrong and she never had to answer for it in any way. She wasn't the victim Rob was and in some ways Aaron was to. I just wish the show would have dealt with it or at least gotten rid of her soon after once they knew how royally they had messed up that storyline.
Anyway I know this is all old news but I came across an old post recently and saw someone defending Rebecca it just brought up a lot of feelings I still have on the subject and wanted to vent. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

I went back to check, It was! Is that a good thing or a bad thing haha
well he does usually KNOW things - like i said the other day, he leaked the fact that moira killed emma, he leaked seb's birth, and a whole load of stuff leading up to the 2018 robron reunion.
but he also stirred up a lot of shit in the fandom in those days because if he didn't like something he'd say the episode was bad. or he'd make things waaaaayyy bigger than they actually were (like Jimmy's random ass fur coat plot back in 2017 around the time seb was born that lasted all of 5 seconds)
so I'm kinda... cautious (for lack of a better word) about his opinions of good and bad.

callum deserves his aaron dingle moment
Here's the thing I'm looking forward to a ballum reunion. Admittedly I have some fears about it, but for the most part I don't care. Ben finally gets to go home. Callum gets his family back. I'm perfectly fine with the reunion also being lowkey. I think after everything something small and quiet and soft would be really nice. I don't need a special episode, but the one thing I think the show needs to do have callum show some self-awareness and this is where emmerdale comes into it.
I love the big robron reunion episode. I love everything at the club, Robert getting to say that Aaron really hurt him by leaving and have those feelings be treated as valid, and I love a good monologue. I don't think ballum needs all these things. But one of the moments that I really love in the ed episode, and i think ee could learn from, is when Aaron took accountability for his actions, both before and during the break up. I mean I was near cheering when I saw that. Because just like with ballum that break up was ultimately the fault of both characters. And I don't just love it because of the reunion, I love it as a moment of growth. Aaron recognises that he can't just blame Robert or Rebecca for the break down of his marriage. It's him being reflective and working to be better. It is a massive character moment irrespective of the relationship and callum deserves that too.
Because like Callum, Aaron fully scapegoated Robert during their break up. Everything was Robert's fault even though, pre-Rebecca especially, Aaron's behavior directly contribute to their relationship falling apart. He attacked a dude and ended up in prison and still wholly blamed Robert for that. It got to the point where it was frustrating to watch. It didn't mean I didn't like the character or didn't find his actions understandable, that's the tragedy of that era. But even after the break up, as time went on, I found Aaron to be cruel at times and that's with the knowledge that Robert did actually cheat. I mean I love the final scene of christmas 2017, genuinely my fav ed scene, but part of me just cringes when Aaron does his 'i am moving on and that might not be with alex but at least it won't be with you' bit, cause its kicking a man when he was already down.
I think its slightly worse for Callum, because his martial failures are simultanously way more noticable (i mean going get over your ptsd or i'll divorce, or ignoring ben breakdown over the poster -yelling im scared while hitting yourself in the head are not the behaviors of someone who is well- are just horrible things to do, and if it was any other character but especially ben there would be ten thousand think pieces about how it's emotionally abusive) but seemingly forgotten about, and personally that's spoiling things a little for me. Like with today's line about I know when you're struggling, part of me was like 'aw that's lovely' and then the part was bitterly going 'do you now Callum, cause I distinctly remember the several months when you either didn't notice or didn't care.' And that is pre-Lewis. Selfishly, just a line were Callum accepts some fault would just make me enjoy things a bit more.
I like callum, I really do, but when ee leans in to this saint callum thing all it does is piss me off, cause guess what this year callum has treated ben way worse then ben treated callum. And by not acknowledging that they're doing a massive disservice to the character. The reason he can feel flat at times isn't because he's treated like just ben's husband, it's because he's treated like he's without sin, even when he is clearly in the wrong. It's a soap opera. Characters are sinful. Characters in soaps are messy and make mistakes and struggle, but they also work to be better, and that's starts with taking accountability. That's what makes them meaningful. All it takes is just one line where he goes 'hey I was wrong too, but I'll try be better.' Let callum have his aaron dingle moment, he deserves it.

As a former Robron fan, the breakup between Callum and Ben felt very much like the Christmas break up of 2017 between Robert and Aaron. Personally I really liked that break up, because, it allowed for both Aaron and Robert to grow as people. They were friends for the most part, and it helped them to see how much they really wanted to be together. It also led into their best time as husbands once they reunited. They were pretty solid for the rest of their storyline. This it's me taking the long way to say that I really think this particular break up and what they might be doing with this storyline will be really good in the long run for Ben and Callum and for all the Ballum fans. 😁😁😁
I FEEL THE SAME WAY and i like that you liken this to the robron christmas episode because maybe that means we're closer to a reunion than we think, they just need to use this time apart to grow and become the people they deserve to be for each other

i have not paid any attention to emmerdale since idk 2017? Excluding some random episodes here there but i found myself thinking about aaron out of nowhere. And you what he needs? A fucking good love story. Obviously nothing beats robron ever and robert stays his big love but i think he deserves another good one. Not some quick bore storyline with no chemistry but a long lasting pining before getting together. Not some boring character but he needs to be bad, aaron needs some good criminal in his life. Maybe a good enemies to lovers (no bully to lovers but u know two hating each other for reason and slowly getting closer). Aaron deserves that.
