Rufous fantail.
The aerial acrobatics of the rufous fantail are a sight to behold. Occurring mostly in rainforests and wet forests, these dainty birds feed in the air ‒ diving and twisting about in a blur of colour as they catch flying insects. These restless birds are constantly on the move and in the spring they migrate to south-eastern Australia to breed, before heading back north in the cooler months. While on migration, they can appear in unexpected places like urban parks and gardens.

July 29, 2023 - Rufous-tailed Fantail (Rhipidura phoenicura) These fantails are found in dense thickets and bushes in the mountain forests of Java in Indonesia. They eat small insects, mostly foraging in vegetation near the ground, often with mixed-species flocks. Breeding from March to May as well as in July and September, they build their nests from fine fibers, twigs, fern roots, and spiderwebs in bushes. Females lay clutches of two eggs.

The zitting cisticola or streaked fantail warbler (Cisticola juncidis) is a widely distributed Old World warbler whose breeding range includes southern Europe, Africa (outside the deserts and rainforest), and southern Asia down to northern Australia. A small bird found mainly in grasslands, it is best identified by its rufous rump; in addition it lacks any gold on the collar and the brownish tail is tipped with white. During the breeding season males have a zigzagging flight display accompanied by regular "zitting" calls that have been likened to repeated snips of a scissor. They build their pouch nest suspended within a clump of grass. Wikipedia

2019 is drawing to a close, so here is my art summary for the year! I’ve continued to push my color use bolder and brighter than ever, gotten a lot of portrait practice, and huh, I guess I like One Piece a lot, don’t I? ;)

August 6, 2023 - Tinian Monarch, Tinian Flycatcher, or Tinian Island Monarch (Monarcha takatsukasae) Found on Tinian Island in the Northern Mariana Islands, these monarchs live in forested and brushy areas. They eat small invertebrates, usually foraging in foliage, alone, in pairs, and in small groups with Rufous Fantails. Only three of their nests have been described, deep cups built from dry leaves, plant fibers, moss, and wool, and sometimes feathers and grass, in trees. Females lay clutches of two or three eggs. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to threats in their small range including habitat destruction and degradation, invasive vines, typhoons, and the potential introduction of Brown Tree Snakes from nearby Guam.
