Chapter VIII: Three Brothers

Law looked at the three boys in front of him with tired eyes. He was supposed to leave 30 minutes ago but the most chaotic siblings of the whole town appeared at the last minute.

“Ah!” The youngest cried, making a pout.

“Don't be a cry baby Luffy!” The freckles one said.

“Sorry! But Ace, Torao it’s not being nice!” Luffy reproached.

“That’s what happens when you decide to get the sled when there was no snow, you wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be angry because I would have been in my house half an hour ago.”

“We are really sorry Dr. Trafalgar.” The blonde one spoke this time.

“Yeah sorry and please don’t mention any of this to Corazon.” Ace said.

“Why?”

“Because then he will tell Sengoku and Sengoku will tell our grandpa and… we don’t want to face him, he is terrifying.” Ace explained.

Law nodded. “I won’t tell anyone.” The three boys sighed in relief. “But you better not show up here at this hour ever again.”

“Don’t worry Dr. Trafalgar, it won’t happen.” Sabo said.

“Okay now, you can leave.”

“Thank you Torao!” Luffy smiled. “And by the way, can you tell y/n hi from me? I couldn’t visit her this weekend.” Law nodded and the boy left the room with a big smile.

Law stretched out in his seat and put away all his things, he was running late, surely you would have been home for a while by now. He left his office, waving goodbye to the few people that were left, he got in his car and started going back home.

He felt frustrated, he really wanted to take you home that night, and give you a small gift he bought earlier that day for you. It was a stupid gift and you probably could wait but he really wanted to see you and enjoy your company, even if it was for a few minutes. You made him feel like a completely different person and at first, when you tried to enter his life with that big smile and big dove eyes he hated it, he couldn’t understand why Corazon liked you so much. He thought you were just one of those city girls that wanted to experience living in an isolated town, take pictures of it, post them in social media and leave after three days, but you turned out to be different.

He exhaled in frustration, he had arrived home without realizing it. He turned off the engine and headed towards your house, you were probably still awake and he really wanted to see you. Law knocked on the door three times, but got no response, your lights were completely off and nothing could be heard inside the house. Maybe you were still in the restaurant? Something inside him told him that he should go to the restaurant quickly. He walked down the stairs to your porch and he got into the car, starting it quickly. That feeling in his chest area was there and it was making him nervous.

You were still hugging yourself and keeping yourself away from that man. You looked both sides trying to see if you could spot a familiar face but the streets were empty and the bus was running late.

“Sir.” You spoke. “I don’t the person you are looking for, now I would prefer for you…”

“Oh c’mon sweet y/n…” He smiled. You trembled, you had not told him your name at any time. “I know you know him. Don’t play games with me.”

“I’m not playing games with you sir.” You tried to breathe but you felt like you were running out of it.

“It’s okay sweetheart, I won’t hurt you or anything.” The nickname made you want to throw up.

“But… will you hurt Law?”

“Hmn… only if he doesn’t do what I told him.”

“You’re absolutely disgusting, once the police find out about…” You spotted talking when he put his hand on your mouth.

“I told you I was not going to hurt you but sweetheart if you disrespect me or even turn me to the police, I won’t hesitate. Besides, I know you have a little sister, don’t you?” You swallowed under his hand, feeling how your eyes were getting teary. How did he know? You only mentioned having a sister to Nami and Law and you knew that none of them would ever tell this man. “So now you get it sweetheart?” You nodded and he let your mouth free, with that you spent a few steps away from him and tried to calm yourself.

“Oi y/n!” You heard a voice, a voice you were familiar with and a voice you were glad to hear.

You turned around to see the happiest boy in the world running in your direction, followed by two boys you didn't know about. You let out all the air that had been building up in your lungs for minutes, and smiled.

“Y/n!” He hugged you when he reached you. “What are you doing here? The restaurant was closed already.”

“I was waiting for the bus to go home.”

“Oh!” He nodded. “I see…” You glanced to your side, to see if the boss was still there, and yeah he was, not moving an inch, you hoped that with the presence of Luffy and his two friends, he would leave. “Do you know my brothers y/n?”

You tilted your head. “Brothers? I didn’t know you had.”

“Yep.” He smiled. “This is Ace.” He pointed at the black haired boy with freckles. “And this one is Sabo.” He pointed at the blonde one. “Guys this is y/n!”

“Nice to meet you y/n, we have heard a lot from you.” Sabo spoke.

“Oh for real?” You were surprised.

“Yeah Luffy talks a lot. You probably already noticed that.” Ace spoke this time and you smiled. Ace then put his eyes on the boss and he nudged Sabo a little so he would look at him too.

“Excuse me sir.” Sabo spoke and walked a few steps closer to the boss. “Are you looking for someone or something here?”

“Was he bothering you y/n?” Ace whispered to you.

You wanted to nod but you were afraid that man could hurt them, if you said anything.

“Y/n you can trust us, don’t worry.” It was Luffy this time.

“It’s okay guys. I was just waiting for my bus and this man appeared here. But nothing to worry about.” You lied, with a fake smile on your face.

“If the lady feels uncomfortable, I will leave.” The boss spoke. “Have a good night, hopefully we can meet in another circumstance.” Hopefully not. He started to walk away.

“You sure everything was alright y/n?” Sabo approached. You nodded again assuaging them everything was okay, although it was not true. “We can talk with the police if you want.”

“If you meet him and he bothers you, don’t hesitate to tell us. We will kick his ass.” Luffy said with a determined look on his face.

“Luffy, relax. Look what happened the last time you kicked someone’s ass.” Sabo sighed.

Luffy pouted. “But…” He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter, y/n is my friend and if that sunglassed guy bothers her I will send him flying.”

Ace rolled his eyes and smiled. “Y/n we will stay with you until the bus comes.”

“Oh there is no…”

“It wasn’t a question, we will stay.” Sabo said and sat down on the bus stop, followed by Ace and Luffy.

“Thank you.” You sat with them.

“So tell us y/n what were you doing before ending up here? It’s strange for us to get new people.” Ace asked.

“Mhm… well I just needed a peaceful place to stay. This was a good option.” You shook your head.

“It’s peaceful but sometimes it’s boring.” Luffy sighed.

“Getting bothered sometimes it’s good, Luffy. You started to pay attention to things you weren’t paying before.” You smiled. “I really liked it here, I mean I got the chance to meet you.” You looked at him.

“I’m also glad you came here.” He smiled and hugged you.

You smiled and hugged him back. “I didn’t know you had brothers.”

“Yep.” He smiled. “Ace, Sabo and I, we were raised together and became brothers.” You nodded.

“We were raised by Dadan, I don’t know if you have met her.” Ace explained and you shook your head. “It’s normal, she lives outside of the town and only comes from time to time.”

The three brothers explained to you how the three of them came from different backgrounds, how Sabo used to come every single weekend with his father and stepmother to spend the weekends at their house, but he would always sneak out to spend time with Ace first and then with Luffy too. Ace on the other hand, spent his whole life here, his mother died in childbirth and he didn’t know much about his father and honestly he didn’t care. As for Luffy, his grandfather raised him until he was four but then duty called and asked Dadan to look after him, his father apparently was someone important but Luffy couldn’t care less about it. The three of them bonded together and eventually they swore like brothers drinking sake.

You found heartwarming how they bonded with one another and how till this day, they are still together. Kelly was too young for you, she was still a baby, so that bond between you two was still not there. You hoped you could become someone who she could lean on, trust and watch as a role model. At least that’s what you used to want.

“Oh! Y/n!” Luffy took you back to reality. “Has Nami told you?”

“Told me? Was she supposed to?”

He nodded his head enthusiastically. “So every year, before Christmas we, the whole group, goes a few days . We stay in a cabin and enjoy the days on the frozen lake. This week we will be doing the same. Wanna c’mon?”

You thought for a moment, a mini vacation with your friends sounded amazing. “I would love to but the restaurant.”

“Don’t worry, Zeff usually closes the restaurant for a week before Christmas.” Ace said and Luffy nodded.

“Then yeah, sure.” You smiled and Luffy screamed in happiness. “Who is going?”

“Well… the group you already know, Sabo, will bring his girlfriend Koala and Ace will be bringing a friend of his, Yamato right?” Ace nodded. “You should ask Torao if he wants to come. Apparently you are the only one that is able to convince him or do this.” You laughed.

“I will try, but I can not promise anything.” You spot your bus coming. “Oh that’s my bus.” You stand up and the three boys did the same. “Thank you again for what you did.”

“There is no need y/n.” Sabo said.

“Yeah, don’t worry, you’re our little brother's friend and now you’re ours too, so we will always help you.” Ace said with a smile on his face.

“Yeah y/n you can count on us!” Luffy said.

“Thank you guys. I really appreciate it.” You hugged each of them. “I hope we see each other soon.”

The three of them nodded in unison and you couldn't help but giggle. You got on the bus and sat by the window to say goodbye to them from there. The three of them waved goodbye to you and you did the same until you lost sight of them. You leaned your head against the glass, it was still going to take you a while to get home, unlike the trips with Law in his car, here it was going to take longer because of the stops he made.

Law.

You closed your eyes remembering what happened before the brothers showed up. Now you understand why Law wanted to push you away, why was he so terrified for you. The boss already knew about your sister, which means he probably also knew about your mom and David too. It made you shake with the thought of them getting hurt once again because of you. You wanted them to be safe and okay, but being away you couldn’t be there to protect them. Although you knew there was a way to protect them, even if you were kilometers away.

No.

No you didn’t want to think about that possibility, you simply didn’t want it. What type of coward would you be if after telling Law to rely on you, not to push you away, to let you help him, you started to push him away, you would do exactly that, push him away. Leave him alone. Leaving there was not an option either. You didn't want to continue running away and you didn't want to abandon the people you had met in this town. There had to be some option, one where you wouldn't put your family's lives in danger, where you wouldn't have to stay away from Law, and where you could help him get rid of that man.

“Lady?” You heard from the front of the bus. “Isn’t this your stop?” You looked around and it fact it was.

“Yes it is. Thank you and have a good night.” You said leaving the bus.

You walked towards your house, there was no car parked at Law's house. He missed you, maybe Law was still working, that's why he hadn't shown up to pick you up. You entered the house and quickly went to the bathroom, you needed to take a hot shower after today.

Zeff and Sanji had told him that you had left a while ago. From what she assumed you had gone to the bus stop, Law walked or rather ran to the bus stop, hoping to find you sitting there. But you weren't there and Law could feel his heart speed up instantly and he knew it wasn't because he just ran, but because of that strange feeling that had been present in his stomach since he hadn't found you home when he returned.

“Oh! Torao!” Law cursed under his breath, right now Luffy was the person he least wanted to see. “What are you doing here? Searching for y/n? She just left.”

Law turned his body to meet Luffy and his brothers. “Have you seen y/n?” The three brothers nodded in unison.

“Yeah, she just left. We made sure she got safely after that weird man was with her.” Sabo talked this time.

Law swallowed, those words from Sabo had left his mouth dry. "What man?"

“Don’t know man. He was weird, he was wearing glasses and…” Ace was explaining when Law cut him off.

“Glasses?” It was him, he was certain about it. “And you made sure she got on the bus safely? There was no one strange on the bus.”

“No, she was the only one on it. She probably already got home or she is about to.”

Law nodded and without saying a single word, he began walking back to his car. He didn't have time to talk to those three, he had to see you and make sure you were okay and that asshole Doflamingo hadn't done anything to you. Just like before in a blink he was already getting of the car and going straight to your front door. He knocked on the door but there was no response, Law's pulse accelerated by the moment, and if Doflamingo had followed you here and if you were in danger?

He bit the inside of his cheek, he knew that he shouldn't enter other people's houses but you weren't responding and knowing that Doflamingo had been with you minutes before, they left him no other alternative.

He knew that Mrs. Smith kept a key on top of the door frame; more than once when he was young, she had called him to get it after leaving the keys inside. He entered the house and started calling your name, it was dark and cold inside.

“Fuck y/n…” He whispered to himself, searching for you.

He went up the stairs with long strides, when.

“Ah!” You shouted in front of him. Law opened his eyes when he saw you, you were there in front of him and you seemed fine. Although there was also something else. “What are you doing here Law?!” You covered yourself. You were only wearing a towel, which barely covered you up to your thighs.

“I…” Law swallowed, he could feel his cheeks burning. This had never happened to him but he didn't expect to find it like this when he entered your house like that. Law turned to avoid looking at you. “I’m really sorry y/n, I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”

You looked at his back and lowered your head, you would swear you had seen his blushing cheeks. “I am.” You said. “I was taking a shower.”

He nodded, still facing away from you. “Hmm, I'll be down. I need to talk with you."

“Alright… I’ll go change, I’ll be there in a minute.” And you walked towards your room passing by Law.

Law looked down when he saw you walking in front of him, damn he looked like a hormonal teenager at that moment. He quickly went down to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water.

You leaned against the door of your bedroom, God, your heart was racing. And you didn't know if it was because of the scare that Law had given you, of her seeing you practically naked or because of the fact that she had appeared before you with the most worried expression you had ever seen. Law was back at your house, at night, and after realizing your feelings today, him being here didn't help in the slightest.

You took your pijama and changed to it, and made a braid on your wet hair. You looked at yourself in the mirror and inhaled. A question was running through your head and it was if Law was here because he had also met the boss.

You went down the stairs quietly and could see Law's figure sitting on the couch, with his head in his hands. You walked up there and whispered a shy “hello.” Law turned to look and when he saw you there, he got up from the couch, standing in front of you. Making you have to lift your head to look him in the eyes. Law swallowed and licked his lips before speaking.

“You’re alright… You’re here.” He said almost like a whisper.

“Yeah, I’m here.” You smiled at him.

Law watched you for a few moments and then pulled you closer to him, hugging you. You were frozen in place. That action had caught you off guard. You could feel Law's heart beating rapidly in his chest, and it sped up even more when you wrapped your arms around him. Staying even closer to each other.

“I’m so fucking glad you’re okay y/n.” He whispered to your ear. “You have no idea.”

Excuse me, i saw the req is open. I hope you don't mind me requesting. If its not up to date with the rules, you can ignore it.

So do you mind writing some kind of a funny scenario for a x fem!civillan reader?

The reader is the beloved granddaughter of Sengoku who is a civillian with ridiculous luck (she know that she is not that strong but her luck make sure she is alive and well in that ridiculous world, that is why she chose not to join the marines because she believe she is not up to a marine standard, unlike her brother who is a powerful marine. Btw, her standard is a potential half of her grandfather power. And she is 1/15 of his, but she is more smart and cunning than her brother. I give her a brother so she is not burdened to feel dooming her family by not being a marine.)

And somehow through her luck, she dates and accept the proposal of Ace, making his soon-to-be-wife. She know that she need to choose, between her family who are all on the side of marines and 'justice' and her fiance on the side of pirates and 'freedom'. But she ends up choosing Ace, she did tell Ace that her family are all marines, just not which one. And she knows that it will be better not to tell her family that she is going to marry a pirate because she know they will not give her their blessing and they will be dissapointed in her.

On the day of the Marineford war, she already made an undercover rescue plans on her own. She understand marine tactic, know she have luck on her side and betting her life on that luck. She did somehow rescue Ace and Whitebeard but sadly her cover was blown by Akainu. And the world now know that Sengoku's granddaughter is siding with the 'criminals', so with a heavy heart she declares to cut all ties with her family (to not make more problems and dishonoring her family name further), before dissapearing with the other pirates. Sengoku was shocked, sad, and don't understand on why she is on the side of pirates.

After the Marineford, Garp give him reader's letter (she know that Garp is Ace's adopted grandpa and she trust him to give sengoku her letter and giving garp hints about her relationship with ace and indirectly asking garp for his blessing for her and ace relationship) detailing about her relationship, how she choose to leave the family to marry ace, how sorry she is to dissapointing and bringing shame to the family, how hard it is to chose between the two side, how much she loves her family and how she still wished to have his blessing on her marriage even though she know that its impossible.

Sengoku who read the letter is sad but understand her intention on her public declare in breaking the family ties but he still love and consider her as his granddaughter in his heart forever even tho she will become a pirate's wife, indirectly giving her his blessing after reading her letter.

But what i request is can you please write it more focused on the comedic aspect of Garp teasing and annoying Sengoku on how they would be in-laws and a family, how his beloved granddaughter will be garps granddaughter too, and sengoku is fuming about it and blaming garps grandson on corrupting his granddaughter? Just make it funny and not too serious.

I dont even know why i give the background on the reader while what i really want is the funny stuff on the bickering of these two old grandpa. I try to be specific, like what the rules said. But is it too specific and too long? I am sorry if it is. You can ignore it if you want.

Garp had read the letter over Sengoku’s shoulder, allowing the man to quietly, somewhat mournfully, give his granddaughter his blessing. All he’d ever wanted was her happiness. She’d always had luck on her side, no matter what she did, no matter where she went, she never seemed to run into trouble. It was as if the world pushed dangers away from her. Even on the rare occasion that she did run into trouble, she was always able to get out of it. She had some skill with fighting, but she’d never had the skill or talent for it that her brother had. Her poor brother. He worked twice as hard, as if all of his luck had gone to her. It wasn’t that he had bad luck, he had no luck. Still, he’d never once resented his sister for being the lucky one; she was his beloved sister. Sengoku would need to tell the boy, he deserved to know the truth. He’d been there, watched her disown her family, the boy had been crushed. A small chuckle, then a hearty laugh, finally turning into a full blown, loud, boisterous howl drew Sengoku’s attention, watching as Garp leaned against the wall, laughing like a mad man, even as his lungs begged for air, gasping for breath.

"Welcome to the family, Fleet Admiral! You mind if I start calling her granddaughter too?” the man roared, finally collapsing into a chair as tears of laughter pricked at his eyes. Sengoku’s eye twitched as he stared at Garp.

“You and your damned family! Always causing trouble no matter where you go!” Sengoku nearly shouted, wishing he could strangle the man. Still, Garp’s laughter filled the office, echoing down the hallways. The other marines would likely wonder what could possibly make the man laugh so loudly after everything that had happened. Not that Sengoku cared, as Fleet Admiral, he didn’t have to tell them a damned thing. Especially not about his granddaughter’s letter.

“Hey, maybe I should start calling her my granddaughter as well! I’m sure she’ll make a fine addition to the family!” Garp said, trying not to say anything too loudly, despite his roaring laughter.

“She might be getting married but you’d better give her the respect she deserves!” Sengoku said angrily, still trying to keep his voice quiet enough that nobody would hear.

“She’s a pirate now, Fleet Admiral.” Garp said, still laughing. This only irritated Sengoku more. He knew that marines never respected pirates, by his own logic, Garp could call her whatever he pleased.

“You’d better stay away from her, you hear! I know you let that other grandson of yours escape! If I even think that you’re going out that way, I’ll demote you!” Sengoku said angrily, his irritation at the man easily showing. He was friends with Garp, he liked the man well enough, but there was no way in hell he was letting Garp call her ‘granddaughter’.

“Don’t worry, I’m not about to go messing around with Whitebeard at my age.” he said, making it clear that the giant man was the biggest thing keeping him away. For once, Sengoku was glad that she was with the Whitebeard Pirates, at least this way he’d be forced to stay away from his beloved granddaughter. He might not be happy with her choice in men, but he loved her and just wanted her to be happy.

Of course Garp couldn’t stop there. At every chance he got, he’d remind Sengoku that Ace was marrying his granddaughter, that they were, for all intents and purposes, family. Fuming, Sengoku entered his office, slamming the door behind him. Garp had started asking him if they’d both be called ‘great grandfather’ by a child. Great Grandpa! Garp a great grandfather to his own great grandchild?! That damned grandson of his! Corrupting his sweet, innocent Y/n. She was too good of a girl for Garp’s wild, feral grandchildren! He’d heard the stories, things that people had witnessed of the ‘Great Portgas D. Ace’. It was clear from her letter that his granddaughter truly loved the boy, that it wasn’t some mere coercion or spell, she loved him. But his darling, darling granddaughter, the little girl he’d played tea time with, holding her high in the air like she was flying, let sleep on his shoulder as he carried her to bed, was marrying Garp’s grandson. He wasn’t sure what he preferred more. The idea of this wild child raised by wolves in the mountain, or a child raised by Garp. He didn’t really like either. Y/n deserved the kindest, sweetest, most loving man on earth. Someone who would shower her in love and affection for the rest of her life and protect her with their life. Someone who would hold her close forever, who would give her everything she ever desired, and never let her go. He hadn’t had many interactions with the boy until the execution, but until Whitebeard, Y/n, and Luffy had shown up, the boy had seemed pretty resigned to his fate, like all fight had been taken out of him. Seeing Whitebeard and Luffy, he’d been filled with worry, yet clearly felt so much love. He cared for both a great deal and didn’t want people to die for him. When he saw Y/n, he’d fought to break free, pleading with Whitebeard to get her out of there. When he’d gotten free, he and his brother had immediately been by her side as they escaped. He’d watched Ace block attacks aimed at her, protecting his beloved granddaughter. It was clear how much Ace loved her. Perhaps, if the boy loved her enough to protect her as fiercely as he did, it would be alright, she would be happy and that’s what mattered. Hearing his office door slam open, he was once again face to face with Garp, the man grinning like an idiot.

“There you are. Thought I might stop by to give you the wedding announcement. She’s officially married to him. Welcome to the family.” Garp said. His grin widening as he handed Sengoku a beautiful card. On second thought, there was no way any grandson of Garp’s could be good news.

Hehehe, I was hoping you'd like that idea though I don't think I ever saw your puppy Law post, I'll look for it at some point lol

As for the reason behind Law's sudden shift in affection… I didn't think about it until now. I woke up with a mission and nothing more! But now that you mention it, I have formulated a few of my own theories and also have chosen to take one of yours and run, sprint even.

I really like the idea of Law, who's been surrounded by death since he was barely double digits, suddenly gets hit with the weight of mortality. He never got the time for a grieving process, his parents and little sister died while he was trying to survive exactly what killed them and I doubt a 10 year old of any academic achievements could process that by himself. Cora died as soon as he was given a chance, a reason to hope again, Law was beaten and scorned at 13, he was tired but he couldn't bring himself to disrespect Corazone's last wish by allowing himself to die. He lived for years not for himself but for a man who risked it all for him, for parents who never got to see their son become a doctor, for a sick little sister who waited in a closet for her big brother, Law grew up living for anyone but himself because if he did he would find no reason behind it. So while he sits in a secluded corner of the hospital after that day's butcher's bill surpassed yesterday's, his mind slows down to try remembering some of those faces and names he couldn't save but for some ungodly reason all that comes to mind is Lami, Cora, his parents and suddenly the familiarity of death is no longer *just death*. Now it's a crooked smile that would need braces in a few years, grey hair, and that welcomed, looming figure behind him no longer being so tall, but none of that happened and Law, for the first time in 18 years, realizes he was robbed. Maybe it's a bit silly for a doctor to feel the weight of mortality at 28 years old, it's a feeling he needed though, that feeling sending him into an upward spiral quicker than he ever thought possible.

My own first thought, however, involved a play on the interaction between Law and Sengoku at the end of Dressrosa. Law's a surgeon known for having direct correlation with one of the most cruel crime families in the country, and while he has earned the legal trust of the police, one too many of them remember Law when he was that dickhead teen, so Sengoku tries saving as much face he can with his fellow officers by catching Law alone and briefly (Sengoku is holding back a lot) tries to bestow some grandpa wisdom onto him because his boy died for the one in front of him now. Sengoku wishes he could invite Law to his empty home for rice crackers and tea, or maybe coffee, Cora preferred coffee too. Law wants to know the man who raised the one who saved his life. Did Cora get his smile from Sengoku? They could both talk each other's ears off about one man but only Law gets answer before parting ways because above all else, Sengoku wanted Law to know that his son, his Rosinante, did not save him to fulfill a mission or some savior complex, he saved Law because he saw the life in a dying boy's eyes.

Second thought features, get this, living Cora!! I actually don't care much for angst, I want angst the way I want a bandaid on my arm. I know ripping it off is more beneficial but has anyone ever considered that I'm a little bitch? I digress though. Cora is fucking estatic when Law, very begrudgingly, admitted to be seeing someone. Sure Law has been in relationships before, however Law never let him know about said relationships until well AFTER they broke up, so to hear Law talk about his current partner at all automatically has him rooting in this mystery person's corner. The long awaited question finally can be asked, “When can I meet him?”. First of all, how did he know Luffy's a guy, Law hadn't said his name yet, second, never ever in the history of ever. He can't give up though, and Cora pushes Law to introduce him, saying he'll even wait a few months into the relationship so they don't feel rushed. Luffy and Law had been dating for AT LEAST a year at that point. Cora chooses to ignore that in the moment when Law breaks that news to him. Law is, honestly, a little flabbergasted by Cora’s investment in his love life, probably tries joking about showing Cora how to use tinder before it boils down and Law has to genuinely ask Cora why he's being so “weird” about Law's romantic life. Cora… Cora kinda just deadpan stares at Law out of complete shock at the realization that Law is being serious. With a tone akinned to one you would use when explaining to a child why Fido had to go to “the farm”, Cora absolutely dumps everything Law has done that's made him worry since learning of Law's romantic life. He recognized some of the names of Law's past partners, and he recognized them for a reason. It wouldn't have taken much from Cora to make Law realize just how stupid his question is, but Cora also wants Law to know just how special this person is for them to be having this conversation now. Law has always known how special Luffy is in comparison to his past relationships, but he's never had the right words to describe such facts, thanks to Cora of course.

Overall, the idea is that someone/something happens to make Law actually process his life/mindset which in turn makes him see clearly just how much Luffy has always meant to him. I dunno if I properly expressed just how little introspection Law has had to have done for him to break at 28 but my hands hurt from typing so I pass the baton to you in this relay race.

Yes, amazing anon! This is my personal favorite of the three (probably due to the expansion of my previous idea). I love your description of Law's relationship with mortality through the deaths of his parents, Cora, and Lami. How he doesn't realize until he's so much older and instead of making him feel downtrodden and even more sad, he almost feels relieved knowing that death is no longer looming behind him. Perhaps he's realizing his own mortality and knowledge that his life can be taken from him just as quickly as theirs. Now that this has finally clicked in his head (he knows it should have years ago he's a surgeon for fucks sake he watches people die everyday) he wants to live his life and love Luffy the way they both deserve to be loved because it could be over tomorrow.

This conversation with Sengoku is something I always wanted to incorporate into one of my stories and will probably do one day when I find the right one. I wish we knew more about Cora and Sengoku's relationship, they are both such fascinating characters and perhaps Law is understanding that Sengoku helped Cora grow some of his more admirable traits, like his desire to do the right thing and his ability to love so deeply. I firmly beleive Sengoku is a good man he just is not on the side of the story that we root for in One Piece and thus we see him as a villain but that's a topic for another day. But yes, the revelation of Cora saving him simply because he wanted to see Law live and be happy is something that can allow Law to truly move on. He's always been worried about making Cora proud and doing something with his life that is of value but maybe he realizes now that all Cora wanted for him was to be happy. Now he has someone in his life who makes him happier than anything in the world and it's high time he makes sure Luffy knows it.

Living Cora is the best and I used a conversation with him in one of my fics to help Law overcome his fears and tell Luffy he loves him so I am on board with this idea fully. Cora's totally invested in Law's love life, he wants him to be happy and knows that his little guy needs more love than even he can give him. He's been quietly watching from the sideline as Law dates and doesn't even tell him. He sees Law was in clearly unfulfilling relationships and he kept his mouth shut because he knows Law needs to experience life and that some people can't find their prince unless they kiss some frogs. However, now he sees the small changes in Law since he's been in this new relationship. He's less angry, he smiles more, he just overall seems more relaxed than Cora's ever seen him even if he is still the same uptight cranky Law. So he wants to meet Luffy not just to get to know him, but to thank him for finally being the person who can make his adopted son happy. As Cora explains how different Law is from Luffy and how he can just see how much he cares for him, Law sees it too. With a little encouragement from Cora about letting himself bask in the glow of this beautiful love he gets to experience and allow it to overtake him, Law finds himself seeing his point. There's no use in trying to hold back anymore, Luffy is already his and he knows more than anything Luffy just wants Law to give him every piece of him in return. So he does. Shout out to Cora for making Law's blockhead ass stop being so stubborn.

I think Law definitely needs SOME intervening person/event he's just a man so set in his ways whose mindset rarely gets changed. He cares about Luffy more than anything but he's never allowed himself to just let go and embrace what it really means to love and be loved. Once he does, there's no going back. :)

An Au where Sengoku raised Law but Law still became a pirate

You know, I've thought about that!

Sengoku would be a great dad/grandpa and they'd share the grief of losing Cora. I think it'd be a healing experience for both of them.

Here's how I imagine it: Law runs away, like in canon, but he accidentally stumbles upon Sengoku. Not the whole fleet, just him. And since he's just learned not to trust marines, he tries to run away, but someone calling for the man, makes him panic and grab the kid. He successfully hides Law until they board the ship, since he couldn't find a good moment when no one was looking. He was no fool, he knew who the kid was.

He still found a way to meet his crew but this time he had a place to go to when he had the need for parental guidance. The only reason why he still became a pirate was that even though he got the basic marine training like Cora did, the marines wouldn't let him kill Doffy.

Which brings me to, for plot reasons, he still seeks out revenge but with a less self-destructive mindset. Maybe he still appreciated the fact that the straw hats rarely killed marines especially if they weren't bad people... idk i jave a lot of thoughts and i am having trouble arranging them lol

“…you gonna be late, Cora-san…and that would leave a bad impression especially on a first date”, Law said as he was at the dining room table, eating dinner and reading one of his medical books.

Rosinantè slipped on his blazer and walked out to see his kid before ruffling his hair, “…I know, I know…just call me if you need anything…I shouldn’t be out too late…and if you can’t get a hold of me, call grandpa Sengoku”.

“…I’ll be fine, just go already and don’t forget the flowers”, Law said as he pointed to the roses without looking up.

Rosinantè took the flowers and headed out for his date. He had to admit, he was a little nervous since he hadn’t been on a date since Law started med school…they both were so busy but things finally stabilized.

He met Y/N at the marines HQ hospital unit while trying to get Law an internship. Y/N helped him out with all the paperwork as that was definitely not Rosinantè’s forte. He built up the courage to ask them out once he found out that they were single.

He thought the first date should be pretty simple like dinner and a walk afterwards since he didn’t want to put too much pressure on his potential S/O.

He got to the restaurant first (thankfully) and waited for Y/N. They wouldn't take too long to arrive and Rosinantè presented them with the flowers, "...I thought you might like these", he said gently.

Y/N accepted the flowers and inhaled their scent, "oh they're perfect, thank you so much", they said gently before giving him a hug.

He blushed in response before taking a seat opposite them, "...I'm glad you like them, so how has your day been?", he asked curiously as he watched his S/O settled down and take a sip of their water that the waiter had poured for them.

"It’s been pretty good, I just stayed in for most of the day…and baked some cookies “, Y/N said with a smile, “…and don’t worry, I brought some for you and Law”.

Before he could even inquire more about the cookies, a cute container was pulled out and handed over to him. This of course made him blush, not because they thought about him…but because they thought about his kid.

“…look at you, little miss/mr baker…thank you, I’ll make sure he gets them”, he said with a smile, “…I had a pretty relaxed day too, it’s my day off work and Law was just prepping as usual for the next week…I encourage him to go out with friends every now and then but he prefers not to”.

Y/N laughed a little in response, “…he’s got his head screwed on right…I don’t think you have anything to worry about”.

He smiled and rubbed the back of his neck, “Yeah, still though…”.

Y/N smiled in response and looked at the menu, “…shall we order, Rosinantè?”.

“Yes, of course…go ahead”, he said gently as he looked at the menu, but he already knew what he wanted to eat.

“You know when you asked me on a date, I was pretty surprised you were even single”, Y/N said with a smile after they placed their order.

This made Rosinantè blush again, “…o-oh? Why is that?”.

“Well you’ve never at the social events the marines usually host…I assumed it was because of your spouse or something along those lines”, Y/N replied gently.

Ah he could understand how that could look but he was just always busy with making sure his kid was fine even if they were a college student, he just never really thought about himself for such a long time. It was not in his nature to be that way.

“No, not a spouse but my kid is important to me even if he is pretty much an adult…I’ll try to attend those now if you’ll keep me company”, he said with a little smile.

“Of course, I will! It’s stressful being in the marines as it is…but the social parties do help every now and then to let loose…I count those as my social days so I don’t feel too bad for not going out as much as I should”, Y/N admitted with a little blush spreading across their cute face.

Oh how cute they were, he thought to himself.

“I didn’t think about it like that but you are correct, I should do the same…it would be nice to get to know some of my new colleagues better”, he said thoughtfully.

“So Rosinantè, this might be a bit of a heavy question…but I’d like to know what are you looking for when dating?”, they asked curiously.

Y/N was bold but he loved that, he was almost 40 and didn’t want to mess around anymore. He wanted to settle down and grow old with someone…maybe have more kids.

“No, I like that you asked that…I am looking for someone I could potentially spend the rest of my life with…I feel it’s time for that”, he admitted, “…same question but you answer this time”.

Y/N smiled in response as they took a moment to gather their thoughts and words, “I’m a hopeless romantic, I’ll admit but I’m realistic too…I’ve been into my career for so long that I feel like it’s time I found my forever person…someone who would genuinely care for me and value me as much as I would them…”.

This made Rosinantè smile in response, “I’m glad we are both on the same page…”.

After dinner, the couple walked out hand in hand, “…it’s a chilly tonight”, Y/N said as they looked up at the sky.

“You can have my coat if you like…”, Rosinantè said gently as he began taking off his coat, stopping only when he felt Y/N wrap their arms around his waist and cuddle into him.

“Nope, I’m good like this…”, they said with a big smile as they looked up at him.

He blushed a little in response, “…o-okay…let’s continue our walk then”, he said gently as he placed a hand on the back and slowly caressed as they walked.

“Do you want to go home for some coffee? My apartment isn’t that far from here”, Y/N asked gently as they walked.

By now, Rosinantè was starting to feel a little cold too but his ears began to burn when he heard Y/N invite him to their home.

“Oh sure, I wouldn’t want you to catch a cold…Sengoku would kick my ass if you got sick because of me”, he said with a weak smile, “…lead the way”.

Y/N smiled brightly in response and lead him to their apartment.

He ended up spending the night with nothing scandalous happening and made his way back home in the morning.

He opened the door as gently as he could without trying to make a sound and headed inside, “…good morning, dad…”, Law said with a little smirk across his face as he cuddled on the couch in a blanket and watched some tv.

Rosinantè blushed and scratched his head, “…sorry I was out all night…wasn’t my intention…did you eat?”.

“You’re alright, old man…I already made breakfast…yours is in the microwave as usual”, Law said before turning his attention back to the television, “…by the way, your brother was trying to call you all night…then he started calling me but I didn’t answer…he started sending drunk voice messages so I blocked him”.

Rosinantè sighed softly in response. It was Friday night so of course Doffy wanted to spend time together and since he and Law didn’t get along…he was often left alone with his big brother who would often get drunk and talk about their childhood.

“…my phone died…I’m sure I have a million messages too”, he grumbled as he put his phone to charge and went to take a shower. He came back to the kitchen and began eating while listening to the 323 voice messages Doffy sent.

Law came in and began washing up the dishes, “…so how’d the date go?”, he asked gently.

Rosinantè smiled a little, “…it went well…they sent some cookies for you that they baked…I want to continue to see them”.

“Oh yeah? That’s nice…I’m happy for you, dad…maybe now you’ll keep yourself preoccupied and stop forcing me to hang out with you”, he said with a grin.

“You little shit, I’ll make you regret that…“, Rosinantè said with a smirk as he began video calling Doflamingo.

“…hey where the fuck were you last night? I thought you were coming over”, Doffy said as he yawned, clearly still in bed…the lazy fuck that he was.

“Yeah, yeah I was busy…by the way…Law wants to spend day with you for some uncle/nephew time…you should come over”, Rosinantè said with a grin as he looked at Law who tried to snatch the phone away from him but was way too short compared to his dad, “…Cora-san, noooooo!”, he whined, using the endearing pet name.

“Oh yeah? I’ll be over in a couple of hours…make sure you got some food”, Doflamingo said with a smirk, “…see you soon, nephew! Love you!”.

Rosinantè laughed in response, “…now now, get ready for your uncle…you know he’s gonna a menace when he gets here”, he said as he ruffled his kid’s hair before texting his S/O a good morning text.

hello there <3 never apologize for questions, it keeps this idea in my head which as of late i have been lacking (RIP) ive mentioned before marineford arc as marine!buggy's final straw to become a pirate again. similar to in-canon where he chooses to go after the one piece. he's renewed with his original dream almost out of spite for himself and wanting to keep his captain's dream alive after seeing the marines almost destroy ace. i would put him in impel down as an escort for ace and through his way of failing upwards somehow manages to free / partner with all these pirates and luffy and sir crocodile and ends up in marineford like "how did i get here omg - wait they're not actually going to execute ace are they??" and seeing his new parental figures (tsuru garp and sengoku) be so passive in the face of what is clearly wrong would break him. (my feelings being inserted here aha~) beloved Captain Firebug would become a pirate and ace barely surviving - buggy entrusted edgelord mc spooky law to keep his nephews alive. luffy has to then deal with his grandpa being passive in the almost death of his brother and the sheer destruction the marines can bring just to prove they're in the right. while buggy doesn't go with shanks because he doesn't just leave one mask to wear another pretending he wants to be shanks' subordinate...he'll strike out with crocodile and mihawk to form cross guild. once again on accident. he's used to having fans but pirate-fans are even more intense and convinced themselves that the lost Roger-crewmember (son) was working against the marines the WHOLE TIME waiting for his debut buggy: uh sure totally...that's what happened... croc: you're really bad at this. buggy on tip-toe trying to slap croc: shhh you!!!

Krampus!Law AU

Young krampus Law coming to take Luffy to hell for being bad and instead ends up being non-consensually assimilated into Luffy's found family and he doesn't have enough energy as a person to fight it. (He's also too week to that smile but no one has to know that.) It goes downhill from there and they eventually get married and adopt twp cats and a little cerberus puppy (is not very little after a few months). Law only bothers to actually take Luffy to hell when Luffy's at the end of his lifespan so they can keep being happily married (in hell)

Law's grandpa Is Not Pleased™ but when did Law ever care what Sengoku has to say? He'll come around eventually anyway, he's too soft (Cora's words)

Cora is very supportive and he comes visit every sunday with meat freshly roasted over hell's fire (made by Baby 5 and Baarbara the hell-goat because Cora might be a krampus and he might live in hell but he is also NOT allowed anywhere near a fire)

Ace thinks Luffy dating a krampus is fucking hilarious. Sabo likes to threaten Law any chance he can get just for the hell of it but he actually kind of likes him

Garp also thinks it's fucking hilarious but he also threatens Law every time he sees him (and he means it)

Dadan is the one who accidentally called Law to take Luffy after the shitty little brat broke one too many of her favourite mugs, glasses, plates, chairs, and dining tables. She's not even surprised that, not only is Luffy still running around breaking things, but he's now also dragging this poor, poor tired krampus along. She apologises to Law for the first time 2 minutes after Law first steps into their house

(Law just sighs and glances at Luffy, who grins and waves at him excitedly, and Law then can do nothing but shrug and mumble something about "his life getting ruined and for what? A smile so bright it blinds him? How disgusting.")

(Dadan is not entirely sure how she feels about Law's disturbingly relaxed tone but she also isn't getting paid enough to deal with That™)

(That™ being a painfully obvious crush)

The Straw Hats are not even surprised when Luffy introduces his new krampus friend to them and they all just look at him, look at Luffy, look at each other, shrug, and that's it

It only occurs to them a week later that Law is from hell and can therefore share info on unexplored lands, powerful demons, exotic kitchen, unknown plants, funny bugs (a question that was not well received by some), different medicine technics, ancient, undiscovered relics, and--oh god do these questions ever stop?!

Bepo, Penguin and Shachi freak out for a moment but then they notice how happy Law looks talking about how much Luffy drives him crazy and that's about enough for them

(Shachi and Penguin like to whine and complain about how Law should take his stupid pining elsewhere, some of us are lonely, you ass)

(They also like to actively and loudly plan the wedding years before it even becomes an option for Law and Luffy. They do it to tease and bother Law but also because once it comes down to it, they WILL be ready)

Doffy is that one aunt who drops by once a year unannounced, tries to get all the dirt on everyone and everything, shares the dirt on everyone and everything (without being asked), and then fucks off and is never heard of again until the next time he decides it's time to bother his favourite nephew and his cute little boyfriend again just because he thinks Law's reactions are funny

(Law has to recover for a week after each and every one of Doffy's visits)
