If you are straight, how do you cope with a desire for relationships?
My seperatist beliefs aside, the idea that humans will all find romantic love as long as we are open to it is delusional fairytale thinking. Even if all men and all women were good people, time, location, language, physical attraction and compatibility would still be barriers to finding love.
Think about it, the number of people we meet physically and virtually is limited
Of those people we meet, how many of them will we have meaningful interactions with?
Of those we have meaningful interactions with, how many will we like?
Of those we like, how many will like us back?
Of those that like us back, how many will we love?
Of those we love, how many will love us back?
Of those that love us, how many of them are we compatible with enough to develop a relationship with?
The above scenario would still apply in the heterosexual utopia that reformist hope to achieve.
Now in our current reality, we know most men are trash: if they are not rapist, porn watching scum, they make excuses for their rapist, porn watching scum brethen. As a heterosexual woman with basic self respect that people call "high standards", the number of potentially romantic partners is very low already, then add the natural elimination that happens even in the ideal situation then do the calculation.
As a straight seperatist, I "deal" with my desire for love and companionship by simply understanding that humans cannot control whether they find love. Before I accepted that men are a global menace and men are trash not just the ones I had the misfortune of interacting with, I had accepted that finding true love is about luck, pure dumb luck. The only thing you can do is to be a good person, live your life and have a robust social life to meet people who might like and hopefully they like you back and you both are compatible enough to form a loving relationship.
Romance should not be a life goal for anybody because you have no control over your ability to find love.
Listen as adults, we all need to understand and accept, there is a price to pay for the life we want. Living a life of freedom and self respect has a cost and living a life with "romance" has a cost. Whatever decision you make, you have to be willing to pay the price.

one thing ive noticed is that for some reason there are a Lot more dogmatically exclusionary lesbians on tumblr than there are dogmatically exclusionary gay men.

this is exactly why I'm supposed to be on tumblr sabbatical because half the women on here are normal intelligent people who dont post that much about feminism and the other half of women are raging misogynists who hate men but not as much as they hate that one woman in their life who they think causes all their problems. And then they project that anger towards one specific woman onto all other women

Seperatism needs gatekeeping. It's not for every women and that's ok.
I see separatists on here wasting their precious time and energy trying to get OSA women (mostly) on board. Trying to appeal to them with "separatism will benefit you too!!!" Sis they don't care. I'm like when people show you who they are believe them, remember? It applies to women too. The ones who get it will get on board by themselves.
And also you can't reap the benefits without doing the work. If you're not willing to disengage from XYs, you have no business being in separatist spaces
As a fellow seperatist, what do you think?
I'm not a separatist but I agree 100%. Spoke on this here.
when people show you who they are believe them, remember? It applies to women too.
I think a lot of separatists, feminists, and other women that constantly make excuses for maIe identified women do so because they dont want to be lonely. Similar to how women will keep making excuses for maIes because they love them & dont want to be alone.
Besides realistically speaking; things like separatism going mainstream full of women who aren't serious will be a disaster & end up the way feminism did. If women aren't fully committed they'll just be a liability so it's better off without them.

your nun au. i like it very much. if you don't mind, can you tell me more about it? like what is shadowheart's story? what is up with lae'zel? why is karlach so cute?
Absolutely, I am very eager to talk about it! This is gonna be long tho haha. tw for addiction and self-harm
Shadowheart grew up in a relatively normal, casually Catholic family, but shes always had shit going on. Clinically depressed, and she definitely has a personality disorder, probs BPD, defs not diagnosed because its the 90's and shes masking HEAVY. Even as a kid she was pretty into catholicism though, and liked Christ and his weird more-than-human self sacrificial vibes.
At 13 while in boarding school she got lured into a cult (where she was given her name). This was a mix of older girls and a few much older people outside the boarding school, all women. They were a political cult of feminist seperatists, but also had a layer of idiosyncratic spiritualism originating entirely from the cult leader Shar (real name Sharon). Edgy stuff about darkness, the night, pain and sacrifice being good. But in particular there was a focus on pursuing oblivion, and that resulted in Shadowheart doing some very destructive substances at a very young age, and learning how effective numbness was when coping with being a depressed teenager with BPD. She realised she was a lesbian while in this group, and that wasn't great because Shar was Not chill about that at all. These were radical second wave feminists that considered sex inherently reproductive of patriarchal power dynamics, and the cult was firmly asexual; lesbians were considered gender traitors and particularly looked down on. (Transgender people were not even acknowledged; truly old school r*dfems.) Her attraction to women is what made her question things most throughout her time there, but she was very young and impressionable; she wouldn't start to really firmly question things until she was 16.
She was, through all of this, a big fan of Christ; in fact some of the cult's ideology kinda deepend her concept of Christ and martyrdom, which she admired greatly. Self sacrifice was The Ultimate Virtue to her; a loving masochism, which really spoke to her (and her self-harming tendencies).
She escaped at 17 and didn't return home; she immediately became a novitiate within an Irish-Catholic cloister. This would have been in the early 80's. She dove head first into being a dedicated cloistered nun; it wasn't that different from her time in Shar's group except a lot more sober. When she took her vows and became a full fledged nun, she descended further into worship and over her 10 years there, she became more and more... Medieval with it.
This was a Problem, because this was the late 80's moving into the early 90's in the UK - not only was Vatican II well and truly instilled in the practices of all cloisters, but feminism had been kicking around for a while now and had only gotten more popular. Nuns being hidden away from the world, participating in shame circles and self flagellating was well and truly Over and were banned practices. But Shadowheart researched older methods of worship from deeply devoted cloistered nuns and dove in, because they felt meaningful, helped her cope and they made her feel special to Christ.
Something that had a big impact on her was her duties as a volunteer nun overlapping with the AIDS crisis. She found that she had to consistently fight her sisters and abbess to be allowed to assist people with HIV. This forced her to contend with her queerness, the morality of her relationship to other gay people. That prompted her to start exploring lesbianism and queer community secretly, which tempered her obsessive cloistered nun tendencies; she still self flagellated and prized self sacrifice, but her shame was being challenged, and she had felt how much she wanted diverse, queer community.
Her and Lae'zel started hooking up when she was 25; it started as moments of desperate desire for relief and comfort, but became a little more than that as time went on. (It fucked with Lae'zel A Lot.) Shadowheart was finally kicked out at 27 when not only was she caught with another nun (not Lae'zel), the extent of her self-harm was seen on her body. She became too much of a liability for the cloister. Very soon after that, Karlach appeared in her apartment.
I'll expand on Lae'zel in a reblog >:)

every men is a male seperatist... men only watch male sport, read male books etc. female seperatism don't mean to live in the forest with women. it means support women like men support men
i mean female separatism also means living apart from men entirely BUT yes, there are other aspects of feminism meaning supporting women and women’s sports and female artists and female writers and female professionals etc

Are TERFs even feminists anymore? (genuinely unsure why we still give them that credit)...
Unfortunately, yes, they're in line with a wave of feminism that has very seperatist and violent theory when it comes to men, and refusing to acknowledge that radical feminism leads people down this route is what got us into this problem in the first place.

The Role of Seperatism in Female Liberation
Yes, seperatism will not end patriarchy. I have never seen any seperatist make that claim so I wonder why anti-seperatists like to point that out like their lives depend on it. Also, no singular act, outside of killing all males, can achieve that.
And yes, seperatism is often an individual action. Just like anti-beauty: not shaving, not wearing make up and heels, etc but we still understand that those acts of resistance, even though individual, have value and contribute positively to women and girls' wellbeing.
What seperatism does claim is that it protects women and girls' wellbeing by denying males access to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As seen in the images above, for [misogynistic] crimes to happen, all three elements: opportunity, desire and ability must be present and removing just one of them prevents crime. The images above apply to all crimes but since we are talking about female seperatism we can tailor it down to Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Seperatism is about preventing GBV by removing opportunity for harm. Individual seperatists can achieve personal safety in their homes while seperatist communities can achieve community wide safety. So when you claim seperatism is useless you are basically saying crime prevention efforts that focus on denying potential criminals the opportunity to commit crimes is useless. If that is your claim then you have to provide evidence of that.
Seperatists recognise that women cannot influence the ability and desire of males to harm females because behavioural change is self motivated so they focus on what they have control over which is the opportunity for harm.
Now are males, like all predators, going to seek new ways to gain opportunities to harm females, yes of course they are. Outside of GBV, criminals are always changing their strategies especially when their previous strategy becomes well known and people stop falling for it. Using cyber crime as an example because I am Nigerian (LOL), when people stopped falling for the destitute African Prince method, they changed to other methods like romance scams and blackmail. Criminals/Predators are always to seek new ways to catch their victims/prey which is the why the victims/prey must always be alert and aware of the criminals/predators methods so that they can protect themselves.
So yes, as long as men exist, they will be no feminist utopia where women and girls can exist without the threat of violence. We will always need to be on guard and strive to protect ourselves from them no matter the method they use.
Seperatism cannot save all women and girls in the world just like how crime prevention efforts in Ghana cannot save me in Nigeria and I shouldn't even be expecting it to because geography, language barrier, national laws, etc. What can be done is we adapt the methods used in Ghana to our local context and apply it to see results.
Seperatism is an elective individual and geographical community level action that has the potential to save all women and girls but nobody is kidnap unwilling people and hold them hostage.
And I know, someone is going to scream " VICTIM BLAMING" and to that I say, I don't care about being labelled a victim blamer. However, if you have another viable method for keeping women and girls safe, kindly put forward your idea so it can be evaluated. Please note if you suggest "educating men and boys", I will block you because I don't have the patience for that level of stupidity and delusion.
Sidenote:
I always wondered why allegedly smart women will "but child brides in Afghanistan" as a counter to female seperatism. The wins of feminism activism will always be limited by geography. There is no feminist activism that will impact the lives of ALL women and girls. An individual's or organisation's target populatin will be limited by geography and unfortunately by resources. You can't help everybody applies in feminism too.
Imagine if someone said that about abortion rights in the US. "Fighting for abortion in America doesn't help child brides in Afghanistan". Most people can see how ridiculous and frankly insulting it is to bring up that issue.

political lesbians ARE radfems, they were part of second wave feminism and lesbian seperatist movements. it was to encourage heterosexual and bisexual women to stop sleeping with men. it didnt really even need to include being in intimate or romantic relationships with women, just that youre "a woman identified woman" that doesnt sleep with men. they really have no connection to lesbianism at all save for not having sex with men.
yeah figures

"trans women aren't your allies trans mascs they'll never understand you, they all hate trans men you can't trust them/ trans mascs choose to be men and can't ever be allies to trans women and fems because anyone choosing to be a man is misogynistic " is wedge driving Terf rhetoric and none of us are buying it
Piss off you creepy radfem losers trying to "peak"(groom) people into your alt right sex seperatist hate movement. You're just as pathetic as the nazis you ally with. Your behaviour is disgusting you're behaving like the sexual predators you claim trans people to be
If your rhetoric was based in reality rather than hatred and often antisemitic conspiracy theories you wouldn't need to lie manipulate triangulate and harass people or impersonate trans people to try to wedge drive in order to try to get people on your side, you're not some kind of clever "double agent" you're an alt right troll - seriously for every one traumatised isolated ignorant person you've managed to temporarily fool until they recognise your abuser tactics for what they are and break free there's tens of thousands of other people who see your behaviour for what it is as soon as you start spouting it because your bigotry inevitably trickles out from behind your mask
Why are you wasting your life on hatred do you enjoy harassing and threatening people get help and stop it's not justified ever to sexually harass or threaten people - you know what you're doing is wrong or else you wouldn't go on anon to do it.
I've preblocled a bunch of you and received far less sexual harassment as a result as have others we Know it's you radfem creeps sexually harassing and threatening people and it's disgusting, your behaviour is reprehensible stop it. Feminism isn't threatening people with rape while pretending to be the gender of trans people you want to turn them against this is 4chsn false flag shit fuck off with it and go actually be a good person

I've just found another weird flawed manga with messy gender ideas.
Jinrouki Winvurga aka Human Wolf Machine Winvurga. Basically, our heroine's village is attacked by an empire of slavers and rapists, and her anger and burning desire for revenge activates an giant robot that she uses to fight back.
First things first, there is a WHOLE LOT of sexual violence in this manga. It is all about sexual violence. Basically every character is defined by their relationship to sexual violence. The heroines are fighting back against an army of rapists.
At first, I thought it was a rape fetish thing, but given the lack of subtlety in the rest of the writing, I think it might just be unbelievably heavy handed in trying to establish how evil the bad guys are. This is a story where the level of nuance starts at 'smash the bad guys into red paste with a giant robot powered by anger', and it was originally serialized, so I supposed they had to remind the readers of the stakes every week.
then I thought it was going for a 'lesbian seperatist' or even terf-y terfy angle. Sort of 'men are all evil rapists so women should live apart from them' with a dash of 'women are delicate beautiful flowers that men will only destroy'. I'm not quite sure which of these are the beliefs of characters versus the beliefs of the author.
I think, on a writing level, it is anti-sexual violence, but on an art level, it has a habit of using big detailed splash pages of graphic violence to heighten the drama the same way you'd dedicate a big splash page to any other dramatic villainous plot. Which, unfortunately, means it does have quite a few panels dedicated to graphic depictions of sexual violence. So many that it definitely, on some level, the story definitely thinks it's an interesting subject to depict. I don't *think* it's simply for titillation, it's consistently framed as horrible and violent and the victims are given personhood, but I haven't figured out what else it's going for.
But then there's heroic men and villainous women, so apparently it's heard of nuance on that front. There's a character whose whole internal conflict is basically "feminism seems really cool, but I'm scared that patriarchy might be so powerful that there's no hope of winning."
Like, you know how kill la kill is kind of all over the place thematically? It'll have feminist bits and objectifying bits all mixed together? This has a similar dynamic, only cranked up to 11.
I will say, gender politics aside, the giant robot fight scenes are very well executed. clear blocking, interesting and well explained powers, good use of space, and so on.
I don't know that I'd recommend it to anyone, but it fails in unusual and potentially interesting ways. I think it's too rapey to be feminist, but also too feminist to just be rape smut? Like it's trying to have it both ways or something? I'm honestly not sure what it's going for.
cw: rape, child abuse, slavery, all sorts of patriarchal violence,

idk where anon is getting all these lesbians in radfem spaces. the majority of women in radfem spaces seem to be bisexual, or straight. a lot of the self-identified "lesbians" talk about their ex-boyfriends, and clearly are just bisexuals who now "hate men". (also huge polilezz problem in the community, which has always been the case. historically, most radfems weren't even fans of lesbians, and misunderstood being a lesbian as being a separatist woman/some form of ultra-feminism.)
there's such a small number of lesbians, there's no way there can be this many in a subcommunity like this. there's not even enough to keep lesbian bars open.
it's more like young single radfems pretend that everyone who wants a boyfriend/husband/not to be alone is somehow a "demon" and a "traitor to the cause", even though they themselves will feel the same way in a few years once they mature.
Someone did a poll once a couple of years ago and the ratio between the sexualities is roughly 1:1:1, meaning lesbians, bisexuals, and heterosexuals are roughly represented in equal numbers. Compared to the general population, that means sexual minorities are hugely overrepresented here. So I disagree with the narrative that lesbian radfems are underrepresented here. In the real world, about 1% of women is lesbian. I do agree we have an issue with political lesbianism but if we take that into account, it is much harder to get accurate numbers on the amount of true lesbians here
It's also a cliche that people who don't want kids will eventually change their mind on it, which is also a huge complaint in the child free movement. I do think some seperatists on here will eventually change their mind, but that's okay. Your goals and aspirations in life will change as you grow as a person, and that's not a bad thing

Seeing debate about womens separatism just seems like debating over choice feminism. Some women want to make the choice to be away from men, other women say that's not a feminist choice cause some women cant choose to be seperatists.
Is that not what it boils down to, choice?
