I've seen a lot of discourse about Virginia Kull's portrayal of Sally Jackson in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series, and I'd like to say that I loved her. Don't get me wrong. I love Sally from the original book series, and I, too, would fight the God of War on her behalf. But something that I enjoyed about Virginia's portrayal of Sally that we don't get in the books is the character depth. We don't hear much of Sally's backstory in the TV series, apart from a couple of flashbacks with younger Percy and that scene with Poseidon (Toby Stephens). However, those scenes do an excellent job of showing us that alongside being Percy's mother, Sally is also a young woman who fell in love with a man she could not be with and is enduring the natural consequences of having Percy. She struggles to communicate with him when she's frustrated, gets teary-eyed when she lies to him to prolong the inevitable, and actively sacrifices her happiness to ensure his safety. Virginia Kull's portrayal of Sally Jackson reinforces the character's humanity, imperfections, and determination, and it's everything to me.

I want to talk about this scene with Jae Won and Tae Hyung and why it’s one of my absolute favorite scenes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sure this upset a lot of people because Tae Hyung did a really shitty thing and said some awful and hurtful things and we can go back and forth all day every day about whether or not he deserves the reconciliation (I’ve cut people out of my life for less but I would forgive him in this instance) but this post isn’t actually about Tae Hyung. It’s about Jae Won. And whether or not Tae Hyung deserves the reconciliation, Jae Won deserves it.
Jae Won needed to forgive Tae Hyung because if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be able to be in a healthy relationship with Ji Hyun. Jae Won needed to be able to forgive someone who did something terrible to know that people are more than just one poor decision or even multiple poor decisions. Even people that make mistakes can be forgiven and be loved. No matter how bad or how shitty he was treated, Jae Won needed to extend that grace to Tae Hyung so he could accept the grace that Ji Hyun extended to him and allow himself to be loved even when he's not at his best.
This forgiveness isn’t about forgiving Tae Hyung. It’s about forgiving himself and recognizing that sometimes people are awful. Tae Hyung even acknowledges it himself: he’s a difficult person to be friends with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Jae Won needed a friend like Tae Hyung, even if he was not great. To be fair, he wasn’t the worst friend. He did seem to genuinely care about his friends in his own weird little selfish way. Jae Won needed someone who was himself, no mask, even when people hated him for it. I sincerely believe that Tae Hyung is just as much of a reason that Jae Won was able to remove his mask with Ji Hyun as Ji Hyun's patience and love for him was. Without Tae Hyung, Jae Won wouldn’t have been able to drop his mask with Ji Hyun. Or at least it would have taken longer. Jae Won looked up to Tae Hyung and his unflinching ability to be himself amidst the dislike he got for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jae Won recognizes the impact that Tae Hyung had on him and his own mental state. Sure, he essentially kicked Jae Won when he was down, but he also showed Jae Won how to be himself. By reconciling with Tae Hyung, Jae Won was telling himself that he was still lovable even after dropping the mask. He was still lovable even after pushing Ji Hyun away. He was still lovable even when his depression was at its worst.
Sometimes forgiveness isn’t about the other person, sometimes forgiving the other person is about forgiving yourself. Sometimes it’s about recognizing that people are complicated and the friendship, however difficult, is worth it to hold on to. Relationships take work and that includes friendships. Jae Won is willing to do the work it takes because he was shown that it is worth it to do the work. Did Tae Hyung earn the reconciliation? Well I guess that depends on who’s watching. But Jae Won deserved this reconciliation. Not for anyone else, but for himself.

"You Must Become Bunny Buddies."
Or Face True Exorcism. A Totally Serious Task. Or something. I don't know (inspiration).
Anyways, this is where Minamimoto's Birthday picture came from. Now here's the rest of the...original idea. And doodles. There is no explanation, only silliness.

It had to be Ohio! Of course, out of all of the states to be canon in EarthBound, it had to be Ohio. Here's the Crazed Sign's clay model, demonstrating once and for all that it is truly worthy of the most memetic "weird state". And yes, I am still confused on the America/Eagleland retcon.

Thinking about how Tara looked after stabbing Ethan, I’m like, “Damn, maybe you guys would’ve made a good team!” 😳
They’re both so cute and innocent looking, no one would suspect them (except for Mindy), and then... STAB!

Idk I feel like Nampheung isn't Porsche and Porschay's mom.
Like it may sound weird bc we saw her in a flashback, but maybe she was a foster mom or something, because it just feels so weird how she reacts everytime Porsche or Porschay calls her "mom" oe say they are "a family" or when Korn is so insistant on her being Porsche's mom and his sister and Porsche being his nephew like. Idk it's so weird.
And like. Gun was shot trying to say "the truth that Nampheung is-" and he got shot and died on the spot. And at first i was like "what if she is Vegas' mom??" which at first seemed to make so much sense but then I rememberd how Gun talked about Vegas' mom and said Vegas was "as useless as [her]" and it just doesntfit with how he treats and talks about Nampheung so yeah
But like cutting him mid sentence might be a trap because everyone will think "what was she?? A sister? A mom? A lover?" but what if the real question was "What is she not?"
And again, Korn being so insitant on family links, the way Gun talks about her is ambiguous because he could love her the most as a sister but also as a lover?? So it would mean she is the related to them at all? And since Korn half confessed she was a "Foster sister" to him, i mean the whole "not blood related" thing would make sense
+ her being visibly uncomfortable around Porsche and Chay
+ Her having most her memory and Korn being the only person to know about her surviving (how convenient... To be the only person able to shape the mind and influence the way this woman who lost her memory thinks...really convenaient if you ask me)
So yeah. It's just a lot of little things adding up that makes me wonder if she truly is Porsche's and Chay's mom, or if it is just yet another lie from Korn.
+ Gun never called her "sister" or never mentioned her as "Posche's mom" or whatever. It's really only Korn creating these links and Porsche following his lead because he is so desperate to believe his mom is alive that I think it's easy to have him following Korn's words without too much questionning.
I for one do not trust Korn about anything. The more he talks the less I am willing to believe whatever he says.

earthbound taught me not to smile in the face of danger, but to face it head on with courage
earthbound taught me not to laugh at the pain, but to live life humorously
earthbound taught me not to give up, because there’s so many people out there whose lives you have touched who believe in you
happy birthday, dude.

Ugh. Dreamlight Valley, seriously?
It was already annoying that with all the characters we get, we had to have Mother Gothel. (I mean who tf asked for her? Literally no one?? I get its for Rapunzel stuff but still...) Not only that but there's no option to get rid of villagers like in Animal Crossing if you don't like them. (And I would very much like to kick her ass straight into the fucking void that's for sure.)
But now in The Beast's 7th level quest, The Crown of The Claw, her clearly being a narcissistic abuser (as she's always been depicted in both movie and most especially in the game (Why was she chosen/allowed to be in the game?? Who dumb terrible idea was this??? Especially if they're not gonna properly address this???)) is front and center and the main focal point of the quest.
Beast is rightfully upset over Gothel saying terrible things to Belle, but our playable character is written as if he's being overly dramatic and ridiculous. This is absolutely not how I would respond.
And now we have to wait to let Beast "cool down" and now talk to Gothel to get "her side of the story". This makes me both fucking furious and absolutely sick to my stomach.
The reason this bothers me so much and why it isn't how I would react is because I have and still receive abuse from the person who's supposed to be my "mother" (also a narcissistic abuser). I know what's its like to hear terrible, terrible things from such a person. I know what it feels like. It's the reason my fav characters are (OG) MCU Loki, BG3's Astarion, and BioShock Infinite's Elizabeth Comstock is because I relate so heavily to them, because of abuse and them being abuse victims.
I wouldn't be on a moralistic "high horse" and wait for Beast to "calm down" and think he's being dramatic. I'd be just as furious as him, if not more. Honestly, if this wasn't a kids game, if this was something like BG3 instead, Gothel would go the same way as Cazador if I had a choice. An actual choice, unlike how I have zero choice in the matter with this game. Despite very clearly not choosing the answers that treat him as overdramatic and "needing to calm down", the game still portrays my character as acting as such.
And then on top of that, forces me to wait until Beast has "calmed down" and, worst of all, have me talk to Gothel to get "her side of [fucking] story"??!? No. No, absolutely fucking not. Abusers should never get to tell their side of their story, but they don't tell a truthful side to their story ever. They'll take the truth and twist it so they're never to blame and always a victim. And that's if they choose to use any truth at all. Sometimes they straight up lie. There's no "their side of the story". It's just a means for them to control the fucking narrative in other people's eyes.
This is gross. I hate this. Gameloft wtf.

Fallen into a bit of a slump with the Mother content recently. I think I might be losing some interest, though it might also be because I've been busier recently. Even if I do fall out of the fandom, I'm hoping to post the WIPs that have been... fermenting in my folder for the past few months
