My youth teachers have often spoken of Abraham. A great figure, a servant worthy of being immortalised down in the lines of the Holy Word. Thursday church, I listened and lowered my head once prayer time had come.

My grandmother often recounted to me the tale of Abraham. Admirable, valiant, God-loving Abraham. Curled up closer into the thin sheets of my grandparents’ bed, I listened and sang along with her the hymns of prayer.

My mother has always loved the story of Abraham. How enduring and faithful of a man he was, never once relenting in his trust in the Lord. The Lord’s closest friend. Morning gathering of our family, she smiled at the open page of Genesis. Seated beside her, curled up into the hard cushions of our living room, I lowered my eyes onto the Word and continued to read.

My father has always preached the life of Abraham. The man tested by God, with a faith so unshakable that he was was willing to give all he had to the Almighty if He were to ask. All he had. All he had, even his own progeny. Sunday church in a small village, Abraham stood upon a low pulpit and announced the time for prayer into a faulty microphone. Between my uncle and my mother, seated in the middle of a rusty wooden bench, I lowered my face in prayer. Had their eyes not been closed in devotion, they would’ve seen the tremble in my hands.

Saturday nights. My father lays awake, writing verses down into a white sheet, preparing to preach on the pulpit tomorrow morning. He only ever needed the verses, never notes or anything of the like. His words have always flown as smoothly as a running river— not a wink of hesitation for those who are filled with the Holy Spirit, for they are the spokesmen of God himself.

‘Abraham chained Isaac to a sacrificial altar, raised the knife against his son without a shadow of hesitance. For his God. For his God’s test. Would you do the same ?’ My voice didn’t sound like my own.

Not a word had flown from his lips. Only a breath. “God knows. God knows exactly how to test His servants. God wouldn’t give them a test too difficult. He knows best what’s in our hearts. God is merciful. Only God knows my devotion to Him.” An uncharacteristic, broken litany, a shaky, unfamiliar stream of words is all I received from my father.

Indeed, a broken, whispered litany is all the lamb-eyed Isaac received when climbing the mountain alongside his father. A broken, tearful litany is all that his father had uttered when the knife grazed Isaac’s chest. A broken litany muttered with closed, fear-stricken eyes, a prayer from a servant to his God, never between father and so-called beloved son, a broken litany to the Sun above. Salvation, salvation and mercy, he begs. Heaven has granted you salvation, father. But your sickly progeny lays yet still, impaled to the earth through a single, festering butcher’s knife. After all, who ever wonders how the unknowing lamb ached, when the blade plunged into its angel-stained wool ? Salvation, my Lord, he yells again. And not a single prayer for my pains, not a single apology, not a single ‘I love you’, not a single—

‘What do you say to joining me tomorrow on the pulpit ? Remember your verses ?’

Of course I recall, I had them memorised by heart, Genesis 22:2. Tomorrow I would join him on Mount Moriah. Had Abraham’s eyes not returned to the open book of Genesis and to his white sheet of paper, he would’ve seen the tremble of my chest.

I'm so happy someone decided to write a mecha IF so tysm for that. Can I get some Sunny facts pls?

Of course you can! First of all, there *are* other Mech IF, and I'd be remiss if I didn't name them. First of all the wonderful Mecha Ace (from which I stole the term armature for mechs) by Paul Wang, although its a lot more Gundam than mine is. There is also Magikiras (which I played and found middling) and Ironheart (which I've not played, but heard good things about). All three are available with CoG/HG, and I'd recommend them to scratch your itch. Now, onto Miss Lei. First of all the stuff you can learn in game: she's an armature engineer from Shenyang, China, following in her dad's footsteps (though not his choice of employer). Shenyang is a large hub for the Chinese armature industry, think of it like how Detroit used to be for American autos. Sunny is fluent in Mandarin and English, with passable Russian (and some knowledge of the Venusian patois that combines all three). In terms of physical features she's 5'3" (about 165cm) and about 130 pounds (~60kg), with a decently muscled build. She's got three notable scars on her: a gunshot through her right shoulder, a long cut wrapping around the left side of her abdomen, and a vertical cut on her left thigh. On her upper back is a tattoo of a pinned butterfly, centered on her spine (specifically a Mountain Alcon Blue, shoutout to my lepidopterists). She's completely unaugmented, with no mechanical or biological replacements. Sun is bi, but she's never particularly embraced an openly queer identity. This far into the future it's *largely* a non-issue, although some particular conservatives might raise a stink. She likes who she likes, without much care for labels. She has an older brother who still lives on Earth, but the two of them aren't really in contact. Currently Sun has no interest in heading back to Earth, and would be more than happy to live the rest of her life on Venus (maybe not on the surface though, kinda sucks down there).

Spoilers for the end of As Gold as the Ginkgo Trees but because E anon requested it, this is a rough family tree for reader’s family

I would’ve made an actual diagram but I just... Didn’t feel like it atm, I’ve been pretty tired all day. Also the colour coordination is just for funsies and to sorta differentiate.

So first and foremost, we have Jin Hua (wifey's mom who passed during childbirth), and then we have Huang Xing (wifey's dad who passed when they were twelve). There is also our absolute beloved Li Lei who was helping raise wifey as they grew up, and then fully took them under her wing after dad passed away.

Wifey and Zhongli are self explanatory

Children birth order + mini descriptions (sorta, most of them are personal interpretation, but all of them have amber/gold eyes and are around or just under six feet tall)

Yánjiāng: P much looks like Zhongli except he doesn’t have the ponytail

Lihua: Also looks very similar to Zhongli, VERY long hair in a half updo with a lotus hairpin, she’s also trans

Zhusha: She pretty much looks like however you think reader looks

Yaling and Feng (twins): Also look very similar to reader but with subtle differences, Yaling has glasses and she is shorter despite Feng being the younger twin

I don’t go into specifics on grandkids or the spouses of the children because that’s a lot of babies and names (why did I do this) but: Yánjiāng has three kids and one grandchild, Lihua has adopted three children, Zhusha has none, Yaling has one child, and Feng has two children (Heng and Mei, the two kids in the mooncake scene)

teyvat: which released region do you prefer and which unreleased nation are you most looking forward to visiting?

Each of the regions really has their own distinct feel and ~vibe~ to them, and there are things I like and dislike about them all, but all in all, I like Mondstadt and Liyue the most.

There's something so extremely homey about Mondstadt that I really like, it's so fun to just run around. If I have to do ley lines, I usually do them there. I like the open plains! Also the view of Mondstadt from the higher hills when it's dusk and the city has that glowy gradient to it, hooh, that itches my brain in the best possible way

But the architecture of Liyue is also so nice, all the statues and hidden pathways are really nice and there are so many nooks and crannies.

Extra shoutout to Sumeru for being such an entirely alive feeling region, they did so well on the design, I love the plants and animals and just how much is packed into it, I'm looking forward to seeing how they're going to move forward in the game !

I'm really looking forward to seeing Fontaine, the NPCs from there always interest me and I think it'll be cool to see a city that's more technologically advanced (I've got my fingers crossed for some steampunky aspects)! Though Natlan might also be cool -- and Snezhnaya, ooh, I hope they do some tundras and such. I'm just excited for everything in this game actually.

archon: which nation’s known ‘ideal’ do you like the most: freedom, contracts, eternity, wisdom, justice, or war?

For myself personally, it's freedom. I love Mondstadt and I love writing about it because of how free it is and how open-minded the people are. I have a lot of headcanons about how things like The Gays(tm) and polyamory and such would be viewed in various regions, Mondstadt is always at the top for being the accepting and cool one (a mix of because the people are actually genuinely Cool, or they just don't really care). Just, as an idea, freedom is really important and close to my heart, I like that that's Mondstadt's thing.

HOWEVER, i do find contracts to be a really fascinating idea to explore, especially in writing, the different kinds of contracts and how they tie in with the relationships in Liyue and how the citizens would see their own relationships even with outsiders is just really interesting to me, and it makes Zhongli a really fun character to explore in that sense!!

eternity: which element do you tend to main/use the most?

Anemo !! I'm a Xiao main at the moment, and I find the swirl reaction just easy for me to comprehend and work with for the most part !! Besides that, it's prrrobably electro and pyro (yanfei/raiden shogun team is gud), but. 11 more days until my husband comes home and almost the entirety of my team gets dropped like a hot potato actually-

goryfms is a semi - appless original character roleplay based within the southern gothic subgenre, drawing inspiration from cult classics, pieces of media and tried and tested tropes found in the subgenre.
