Would it be possible to hear your director's commentary on "the yellow glass"? That's my favourite out of your stories, so it'd be great to hear more about it!

oh wow i haven’t thought about this fic in so long.... i’m so glad that you still remember it and like it that much?? ;A;

for a whole second i was like “idk if i have anything to say about this fic” but then actually it turns out i do

i dont actually think that akira is from inaba in canon, but i think it’s super cute as an idea for fanfic and fanon?? lolol i just like the idea that wild cards could come so close to crossing paths

the premise was originally that akira almost winds up going through the tv at a very young age because he’s a future wild card, but then it turned into a whole bunch of other questions i had about akira as a character? because akira unpacks a LOT of anger the second he awakens arsene, and i cant imagine that all of that came just from being mistreated for a couple of months, especially because he’d been such an obvious goody-two-shoes in his backstory flashback. i was always like HM something doesnt add up here lmao

i legitimately threw goro’s section in there just because it was a prompt for shuake week and i felt obligated to have both akira and goro in the fic to call it shuake, but then it turned into an interesting contrast because goro has never once doubted that things are fucked up, unlike akira; unlike akira, goro has never once doubted himself, even when there was nobody there to corroborate his sense of reality. for better or for worse, haha. 

i think it was only after i wrote goro’s section that i went back and aded all the stuff in akira’s section about how he felt like something was wrong, but he didn’t trust his own judgment on that because everyone else thought things were fine

i remember kind of going down this line of thinking until i reached the end (”Something is wrong in the world—he knows it—he’s not wrong. He can prove it. He can show you the wound himself. And if there is no wound, he’ll just have to make his own.“) and i cant explain where the last sentence came from, but writing that last line bothered me so much for a reason that i cant really explain that i stopped writing on the spot

when i say i “stopped writing” i mean that i stopped for like, two hours, because i wrote all seven shuake 2019 prompts in a mad delirious haze in less than two weeks, totaling 25k words. i really thought at the time i had been possessed by the devil or something but actually it was just my first experience with the Goro Akechi Brainworms, which i sadly still have today LOL

Day 3: Meeting / Reunion / Goodbye

Summary: Goro never thought he’d live to be reunited with the leader if the Phantom Thieves. Maybe he’s a little glad he did, though. 

Goro wasn’t even remotely surprised to see Akira Kurusu alive and well; no, he was anticipating this outcome. What he didn’t expect was for them to reunite in Shido’s palace as foes--actually, he didn’t think they’d meet again at all. Destroy Shido, ruin him, get revenge… That was the plan, and after that, well, Goro Akechi would die. 

There was fighting, shadows, his own cognitive self. He fired his gun, and the shot rang in his ears, or maybe that was from the bullet now lodged in his side. It was a blur of movement, black, white, and red, sliding under the closing blast door and for a moment Goro mistook it for Loki. It wasn’t, of course. He should’ve known that Joker wouldn’t let him die that easily. 

The sounds of a struggle, of battle and the frantic shouts of the other Phantom Thieves. The world fades into black, and Goro thinks he will finally be free. 

“Goro…” a voice said faintly, sounding distant, “Goro.... Goro!”

“Ngh…” He blinked open his eyes, finding himself cradled in the arms of Joker.

“I won’t let you die here.”

“You should…”

“Shut up,” Joker grumbled, before leaning down to gently kiss Goro. And for just a moment, Goro Akechi wondered if he really could make it out alive, and have a real life with that cute barista at Leblanc...

director's commentary for the love exchange, especially the whole part under 'gluttony: to indulge beyond necessity'? (their argument not-argument about what akira wants! akechi's expression falling apart!! that was the good stuff)

hfmgfhgmfgh this scene......... im glad u liked it omg

i actually struggled a lot with this scene because i was definitely thinking a lot about... the emotional toll of being someone’s dirty secret... but also the fact that akira as a narrator (in this fic at least) puts himself up as someone who has everything under control and knows what he’s doing and is an entirely reliable POV, when akira also has huge blind spots primarily coming from his arrogance... 

first of all he misinterprets a whole bunch of akechi’s actions, his own emotional issues practically blindside him because he didnt think it was an issue, and at that point he’s so dedicated to the idea that he knows what he’s doing and is fully equipped to take care of this situation that he forces himself to re-handle the situation without any thought of sympathy for what’s essentially just himself feeling hurt that he’s akechi’s booty call lmfao

the other thing is that akira’s primary character trait in this fic was arrogance, but it doesnt quite read that way because he’s so focused on akechi, rather than typical arrogance that’s self-centered... akira being blindsided by his own emotions was sort of the natural conclusion

i think there’s an interesting read in here that akira likes akechi because he thinks akechi doesnt have any sympathy for him, despite the fact that akechi asks about whether or not he’s alright a couple times in that scene alone... it’s because akira refused to do it that akechi stopped asking (and also because akechi is not exactly the most equipped person to ask about feelings lmfao)

hrhhghghgh akira interprets akechi’s moment of anger at the end of the scene in a particular way, but i hoped that by that point in the story it was obvious that akira’s interpretations weren’t always on point, so i kind of wanted to leave akechi’s frustration up to interpretation... i think akechi in that scene feels like he’s been outplayed, or that he’s lost somehow, but there’s a lot of reasons why he would feel that way... akira’s not exactly wrong that akechi’s frustration comes from the fact that akechi has to deal with the fact that maybe theyre not just rival with benefits (LMFAO), but i think simultaneously there was a part of akechi that was hoping for that all along, hoping that akira would prove him wrong when akechi says they’re not in a relationship, and he’s also mad that akira managed to get out of that scene without losing his cool... for all that akira is affectionate towards him in that scene, akira also gets away from that scene without showing much of his own vulnerability..... in a lot of ways akira has been taking a lot throughout this relationship without giving any vulnerability back in return and maybe akechi thought that akira’s almost-emotion earlier might have changed smthg and made them more “equal” in that regard? smthg like that....

also “it’s a mist” was like. maybe one of my favorite lines i wrote for the 2019 shuake week LOL
