Six on Saturday - 20 August 2022
Six on Saturday – 20 August 2022
Only a few garden tasks done today, as I am conserving my energy for tackling more to-dos tomorrow. Perhaps some tidying, seed-sowing, digging and maybe, some propagation. As ever, if you’d like to explore other gardens head over to The Propagator’s blog and enjoy reading through the comments. The participant’s guide is here. The Un-sown Today I am focusing on plants around the garden that…

Our #Six on Saturday at Last!
Thanks again to Jim at Garden Ruminations for another inspiring post! a twenty year old crab apple bonsai This was one of my non bloomers last year. Since altering the pruning method, it has given me four flowers! More next year please? a very special camellia I didn’t think this camellia would flower this year, due to the appalling weather conditions, but finding this windswept flower was a…

Six on Saturday - Damp Delight
Six on Saturday – Damp Delight
Today, it will be short and sweet… but, just before I give you six photos – I’ll remind you (again) that it rains in Ireland! So… a few days ago, while the mizzle was decending upon our heads, I popped out to capture a few snaps – and a whole load of drops! (Yep… some on my head too…) OK… here’s the first… a very damp purple pleasure… Next… pea blossom perfection… Mind you… drops on the fennel…

Six on Saturday from somewhere in Dallas
A week ago today we left on a road trip to see our first grandchild in Louisiana. Baby B was born before the pandemic started but it hit before it was our turn to visit. As a result, we’ve been waiting 6 months to meet our granddaughter. Driving from Denver, driving means two days down, a full week of baby kisses and now 2 days journey home.

SQUARE Perspectives

Another magical mystery tour into my library this morning.
Stumped for inspiration I searched my library using the letter S and another random selection appeared under the heading of structures. Trolling through the images a pattern emerged (in my head) hope you agree there is a tenuous link in these photographs.
My response today to six word Saturday and…

Six Baby Leaves for Saturday...
As usual, thanks to Jim for the idea of #Six on Saturday… This acer is my oldest bonsai, and always makes my heart sing when these scarlet buds appear… Another acer, this one came to me with very dark leaves, but every year they get lighter. It has been in the wars, and nearly died, so very pleased to see these leaves this year… Yet another acer, you can tell how much I love them all, can’t…

Six on Saturday ~ Bonsai Style...
It is Saturday again, time for more lovely flowers from gardens all over the world. Click on the link to visit them all! http://gardenruminations.co.uk/2023/09/16/six-on-saturday-16-9-2023/ Unfortunately, our garden, thanks to the dreadful weather, is not looking its best, so rather than hunting down some beaten-up and bedraggled specimens, I thought I would bonsai it this week. This is the…

#Six on Saturday...
collage of flowering plants for #Six on Saturday
I didn’t expect to find anything still standing after all the torrential rain we have been having lately. I was pleasantly surprised to find no casualties, although one of the tomato plants was leaning precariously! The yellow tomatoes are doing well. Sowing the seeds late doesn’t seem to have mattered much. All we need now is some sun for them to ripen. I am not a very good gardener, as I…

Mr Frog, Sliding Sumac, Housing Crisis, Chaotic Anemones and Bright Fuchsia. Six on Saturday, Aug 23
It’s beginning to feel a bit autumnal, which seems premature. In the garden, frogs are on the move… And so is Rishi Sumac, the stags head sumac tree, which is sliding down towards the house – but is still less problematic than the UK PM. Frome has declared a housing crisis, and Shared Earth Learning has raised funds for repairs after vandalism at our outdoor learning site. In the garden there…
