“We cannot be Marius for you,” I said, “or the dark lord, Santino. We are not artists with a great vision that will carry you forward. And we are not evil coven masters with the conviction to condemn a legion to perdition. And this domination—this glorious mandate—is what you must have.” (TVL, page 311)
still not over the fact that lestat straight up told armand that he needs a dom while rejecting him

My courier's 2024 ref sheet! ❤️ Last october i did another ref that I've never posted because I wanted to edit some stuff without ever actually doing it. I'm working on his beloved Jeremias' ref as well, hopefully it will work out this time.
-------
🌻 Other facts about him:
he was raised in what became legion territory;
came back home one day to find it razed to the ground, no family members in sight (his big brother was enslaved and later became a legionary, then decanus);
a couple years later, as the legion conquered more territory, he escaped to the ncr through a desolate stretch of the mined border, following the trail of corpses as safe passage;
became homeless shortly after, relying on sexual work to survive ( and ended up pregnant by accident);
was found by Marilou and was taken in by her, later starting working as a courier.
A very brief scars' ref under the cut (nudity alert! He's basically a ken doll but it felt strange leaving him like that so i hid his naughty bits anyway lol).
Here he is in all his glory 😔❤️

Your entire family has made a difference in the world! It’s time for you to make your own mark. You decide to take your ambition to the big city, San Myshuno. But first, you need connections and want an education. You meet your crush and a lot of other interesting people at university. You major in History but change to Psychology after learning of the disappearance of someone who means a lot to you. After graduating with a degree, you join the Detective career in San Myshuno. With your connections, you are hoping to find and reunite with them again...but that's easier said than done isn't it?
When you see Renee, all seems well with her life. She has top grades, supportive friends, loving parents - it's evident to say her life is perfect. However, beneath everything hides a troubled girl. Pressure with academics, insecurity about her love life, a difficult relationship with her brother...
Renee is determined to chase all her troubles away and start fresh in the big city. She's going to study history (which she loves) and she'll definitely meet with new people: then all her problems should be solved, shouldn't they? But mystery never escapes from Renee. From encountering the supernatural to having an uncle who works as a detective, what else is there? No, who else is there?

I swear im still in League mode but for now heres some ray scribbles
That one poster made me assume that he was gonna be a scheming mastermind little freak but turns out he's just that last part. Amazing what you can do with literally 5 minutes of screentime.
Admittedly I wish if they made his host outfit the one with sleeves/pants while "Ramon" looks obviously limbless instead.
His identity as an alien refugee was used as part of Eden's popular feel good story (Ray of Hope) but judging from the fact that Red didnt seem to actually get in trouble with his "alien scum" comment, its clear that he was never fully embraced. As long as he does his job, ,stays grateful, and praises Eden , he's welcome. Until he isn't. lol
Soo like uhh visually the Host appearence would be made to make him + his silhoutte look more like a human, thats more appealing/palatable to a broader audience in a way he isnt by himself. ?? So by the time he becomes ramon he decides that he doesnt want that for himself so ?? goodbye pants???? are you picking up what im putting down???

One criticism of comics I hate is when people who don't read comics (different if they do actually know what they're talking about and are analyzing an individual writer's work like Frank Miller's Batman run or w/e) think they have some like enlightened take that the concept of being a superhero is fascist or superhero teams are basically cops etc etc because I Promise you are not a genius for thinking this I Promise you are not some smart enlightened genius who's too intelligent for stupid comics I PROMISE YOU that this has been ADDRESSED ON PAGE I promise you that this is a moral conflict that comes up in comics REGULARLY I promise you that almost every comic team has like an explicit leftist like canonically far left and extremely politically outspoken character on it who starts drama about the team's ethics every few years and all the members are just like sigh here goes fucking Green Arrow/almost any of the X-Men depending on the day/Northstar (throwing my Alpha Flight agenda in here sorry)/etc again. Like most teams have at least one EXPLICITLY left-wing character on it who is highly political and WILL CONSTANTLY POINT THIS SHIT OUT. "Batman is just a fascist!!! He should help people instead of throwing them in jail!!!!!" WOW IT'S ALMOST LIKE GREEN ARROW HAS ARGUED THIS EXACT THING WITH HIM AND GREEN LANTERN AND FLASH AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE JUSTICE LEAGUE FOR 3X AS LONG AS YOU'VE BEEN ALIVE. The ethics of being a superhero is like... a common theme in a large amount of comics I've read. And "token team leftist" aside if you really think that comics portray every superhero as best friends with cops/the government and they don't ever oppose each other then you've missed... A LOT. Talking about copaganda and stuff in comics is a good discussion but when people who DON'T EVEN READ THEM try to it's soooooo fucking apparent that it's genuinely comical.
*Again. This is not about criticizing specific runs/authors' politics in their comics (again. Frank Miller for example.) this is about people who's entire exposure to comics being literal US Military-funded movies and thinking that that's all the depth and that they have all these revolutionary never heard before takes that are just... plot points that pop up every few years in almost every comic.
