People claiming that Bryce being "too big for ballet" and has "the wrong body type" means that she is canon plus size is so... Tell me you know nothing about ballet without telling me you know nothing about ballet.
I was so thrilled reading HOEAB and Bryce's body image struggles, because I was the exact same way. Big hips, butt, and thighs, but small waist, then wider shoulders. Very hourglass/curvy. And the thing with ballet is, it doesn't matter how thin you are, if you don't have the right body type. The "right" body type is straight up and down, no chest, no butt, long, and thin. I was literally anorexic and you could clearly see my ribs, but because my hips, butt, and thighs were always bigger than the ideal, it didn't matter, I was still too big with the wrong body type. My hips were always so much bigger than my waist. Even though... That's just my bone structure, my body type. It never mattered how thin I was, because my body type was "wrong". And even when I was underweight, I was "too big" because of my hips and the like.
And let me tell you, 10 years of being told you are too big, wrong, you should lose some weight even if you're already passing out and can see your bones, it messes with your body image SO badly. Seeing Bryce still struggle with the things people told her in ballet years after giving up on a professional career was... Beyond relatable.
And then you come on tumblr dot com and see people say that "no one" has a body like how artists were depicting her and attacking artists for drawing her thin, and being like... Um, hello? Yes, people do? And then people acting superior and claiming that since big hips and small waist are "in fashion", you should "check your privilege", as if women's body types don't constantly go in and out of "fashion" and as if that constant comparison doesn't do a number on you - especially if you've done ballet. You see countless people say that "too big for ballet" and "wrong body type" = plus size, and that anyone who pictures her differently is "skinnywashing". It is so frustrating to finally have a character you relate to, only for fandom to claim that's wrong.
Like, look. There is nothing wrong with picturing Bryce as plus-size. If that's how you see her and read her, go right ahead! If you know nothing about ballet, it could be easy to take those comments to mean she is canon plus size.
But what people use as "proof" that she is canon plus-size is not actually proof at all, not when you take the ballet factor into account. She is also described as having lean muscle - which is so often brushed aside and ignored by people fixating on the "wrong body type" and curvy descriptors. Fat people can definitely have muscle, but to have *lean* muscle, that means a slimmer and more athletic body. And Bryce works out everyday, so, that tracks.
And what is forgotten too is that... Curvy is not a synonym for fat, it's describing a body with curves. Those curves can be because of fat, sure, but you can also be curvy and thin. A character being described as curvy does not automatically mean fat.
So, like. Stop attacking people for "skinnywashing" Bryce, when real people have her body type and are not plus size and when real people have been told the exact same things she was even when they were unhealthily thin. "Too big for ballet", "wrong body type", etc is not "proof" that she is plus-size, but it proof of how deeply fucked up the ballet world is. It's becoming more inclusive, but... I'm still working on all the body image issues it gave me, and I quit dancing years ago lmao.
Anyway. Most people who read Maas likely know nothing about ballet, so the ignorance can be excused. But if you do know, it's beyond frustrating seeing your experience constantly invalidated by people claiming their headcanon is canon with the things you were told for years even though you're not plus size, especially when they start claiming that any who disagree with them are morally wrong and that your experience is wrong, lol.
So basically: picture Bryce however you want, just don't attack people for not picturing her the same way you do, especially not if their experience mimics hers.

i will be the first to say how much i fuckin loved that cheek kiss in the car at the end of the episode, but i can't be the only who noticed ayan took a picture of them, right?
i could hardly focus on anything else bc i just can't help but feel like that photo is gonna turn into something horrible later....
for now it's cute and heartwarming and probably something ayan will look back at giddily but what if later it gets into the wrong hands and ends up outing akk (who is still very much going through a sexuality exploration (read: crisis))??
what's going to happen between them when such a joyful and burdenless moment twists into something cruel?

THERE IS URGENCY IN THE BOY’S VOICE, desperation in the way he stabs the end of his bo staff into the soft rotten flesh of a walker’s throat— he’s trying to save @shumways, he doesn’t know her name, where she’s from, who she’s with if any group at all, and yet just like his dad would he’s putting it all on the line for a stranger. “ this way, hurry ! “
