i'm feeling very dispirited about my ability to watch the entire series, gotta say. i'd been kind of looking forward to s11 because i have some vague notions of a few of the episodes. ah well. tally-ho

dean sucked up by the darkness straight away, great (scrolling through my internal rolodex of ladies i very vaguely know of from fic. amara??). turns out our nice boy is just taking a nap with the flowers

sam's hair situation looks improved, looks like they let it grow out so it's uneven in the back and flipping up in parts again instead of a shaped smooth bob situation

they're getting a little more creative with the effects with rolling in the flashbacks, which is neat. though using the same effect (differently but similar enough) for dean and sam's recollection, less neat

cas has progressed to rabid wet kitten i see

all right so. just the moral calculation of culpability in all the rando human deaths at scale due to ye olde brothers. letting lucifer out i think is zero sum, they were pushed by heaven and hell to make it happen. sam saved a lot of people by jumping into the cage to lock lucifer (and michael and poor adam) back up, that's gotta add a good number in the black. (cas has got some big negatives with the whole god-stint and releasing the leviathans i wager. oh and the whole angels falling business). choosing for sam to live instead of closing the gates of hell forever, well that is less definable but seems like a big fat red number on dean's tally, but probably less than would have died with lucifer and michael duking it out? so if we consider them one (ofc) they're still in the black. this business with the darkness though, is a lot more definable and in your face if we're seeing this hospital full of dead people on their first jaunt out post evil!twister. curious what kind of guilt they're gonna lay at sam's feet. he gets squirrely when it's people in the way of having dean. anyway. i think y'all might be the bad guys 😔

oh funny, the deputy was the original fen in the magicians which i've definitely mentioned before while watching this. aha, she was in 7x22 with rick worthy (dean fogg on the magicians, spn alpha vampire). those light eyes and dark hair are very striking and memorable

did they scrimp on the makeup budget or something?? looks like he's sewing up a vulva and not even bothering to lift her shirt. UNSANITARY, BRO. hope she's up to date on her tetanus too. and gets some antibiotics to boot

so i guess sam's guilt caused a come to jesus moment about killing the people (rabids??? zombies) who we've seen already have an inherently short shelf life even without intervention. guess that's why he refused to shoot one despite the crying baby. this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. i can see sam having this thinking, but not in this situation and moment.

poor woman stuck watching their messy drama play out. i hope they're packing her a big ass duffel of formula and diapers. did you know when you give birth in a hospital, you can take all that stuff you don't use in your room with you? stock up, folks

Samwena in 11x01 “Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire”?

In 11x01, both Dean and Sam claim to be the one who freed the Darkness:

When in truth, it was clearly neither of them who set the Darkness free.

It was Rowena, not Sam, who cast the spell in 10x23.

Sam wasn’t even present when that spell was cast. He and Dean were busy elsewhere—just spending a pleasant day, Winchester-style:

They were together in the same room when that lightning bolt crashed down from the sky and removed the mark from Dean’s arm in 10x23:

At this point, Dean already knew that Sam had been working behind his back to remove the mark. And that Sam had dragged both Charlie and Cas into it. So there is no point in secrecy about any of this any longer.

The one thing Dean doesn’t know about is Rowena’s involvement. Yes, there’s a 10x23 deleted scene where Crowley tells him about that in a dreamscape bar. But I’m not sure if or if not we should count deleted scenes as fully canon.

Normally I tend to do that. But then why would Sam reinforce Dean’s assumption that Sam is the one who cast the spell?

The only possible explanation my tired brain can think of right now is that Sam is actually covering for Rowena, so that Dean doesn’t have a new reason to go after her?

But still... why, after Sam himself (indirectly) threatened to kill her in 10x22?

Was Sam just bluffing towards Cas? Again, why do that?

What in the holy Samwena derangement is all this?? Can anyone make more sense of this than me in my sleep-deprived state?

6. least favorite Good Guy

Donafuckingtello. i didn't mind him at first because he had a few funny moments in s11 and even s13 - though that was more thanks to pithy writing than his pull as a character or actor. 

but they brought him back again and again and it was just as unnecessary and frustrating as the Lucifer returns. would've preferred Kevin's return or, y'know. just not another old white dude. but it's spn so that was expected, i guess.

anyway, he took way too much plot and screen time away from the main characters and a better character that could-have-been. even the delicious destiel scenes from 13x14 (with protective bamf Cas) [x][x] .. 

.. and from 14x12 (with Dr. Sexy Cas) [x] .. 

..weren't enough to endear me to his actual character (and yes, i know I'm showing the bits i didn't hate in regard to my least favorite of something but i'm pointing out his best bits were actually the writers and the deancas going on around him). 

13. worst plot twist 

i had to think on this one. going through the season arcs i think Worst plot twist is different from my Least Fave plot twist. 

Worst goes to the introduction of The Darkness. i remember cringing so bad during the smoke-cloud convo in 11x01 bc ofc it wasn't enough to introduce something dumb like God's sister (although the Woman V. Man aspect of it was interesting in retrospect) they had to sexualise said formidable primordial force, as spn loves to do (HBO!SPN would never). it felt s7-mouth-head-monsters silly. 

that being said, Emily Swallow was brilliant and her character journey was intriguing because of The Growth™. plus her entwinement with Dean made for some memorable deancas moments ie. pining!dean [x] .. 

.. sorry, i don't mean to bring everything back to destiel, but *shrug*. 

Amara actually became one of my fave side characters! she was especially good in s15 (and in this house we do not acknowledge whatever became of her after 15x17 bc wtf).
