SDV Aesthetic Mod Recommendations (1.6 Edition!)

I’m back with more mod recommendations that work with 1.6! This time, we’re gonna focus on stuff that mainly just changes how things look: recolors, portraits, animal skins, etc. No major gameplay changes, but the visual changes can really enhance the experience or make the game feel totally different! Again, links will be in a reblog. And you can check my ‘sdv mods’ tag for my other recommendation post!

So starting off, recolors. I have three that I really love: Vibrant Pastoral Recolor, DaisyNiko’s Earthy Recolor, and Starblue Valley.

They all tone down the saturation and give everything a softer, more natural look. Vibrant Pastoral is probably my favorite because it makes the scythe-able grass look like it’s full of wildflowers! Also of note, Starblue Valley’s 1.6 update is a work in progress, so some parts might not be properly recolored. It’s such a pretty recolor, but you might want to just track the mod for now while they’re hammering out the kinks.

Next up, portraits! First, I wanna talk about Seasonal Outfits.

I love that vanilla has beach and winter outfits now, and this mod takes that ten times further! Not only are there outfits for every season (with matching sprites), there are also unique outfits for festivals! I love all the Halloween costumes for Spirits Eve! There are seasonal mods for Stardew Valley Expanded and Ridgeside Village too!

Next, Nyapu’s Portraits.

I love the cute, old school Harvest Moon vibe these have, but one of the really great things is that Nyapu has made portraits for almost every modded character in existence. I’m fussy about getting my portraits to match, because it’s just weird when you’ve got totally different art styles for different characters, and that is a non-issue with this collection! If there’s a character mod, there is probably a Nyapu portrait. SVE and RSV are just the tip of the iceberg! Also Nyapu is a real life farmer when they aren’t making adorable portraits, which I think is just cool!

I made a post earlier about Elle’s Cuter Coop Animals/Barn Animals/Cats/Dogs/Horses, but it’s worth mentioning again because they’re just too cute and the huge variety of different colors and species is unmatched.

And I mean. Highland cows. Just look at them. Elle also has mods for seasonal farm buildings and farmhouse kitchens with lots of different options! You really can’t go wrong with any of Elle’s mods.

And speaking of farm buildings, one of my absolute favorites is Gwen’s Medieval Buildings, and matching mod, Gwen’s Medieval Craftables.

The antique, overgrown vibes are just gorgeous.

If I do UI recolors, I usually just pick one that matches my recolor (Vibrant Pastoral, Earthy Recolor, etc) but I recently discovered Lavender Dreams UI Recolor and I adore it.

The colors are just so nice and soft, and the accents of moss and leaves in the menu is just delightful.

I’m on mobile and running out of pictures, so I’ll just talk about the next three that change your character. First is Female Farmer Overhaul. Despite the name, everything is available to any gender, although the style is definitely more feminine. It adds a lot of new hairstyles, clothes, hats, and has the option of short or long sleeves so you’re dressed appropriately for the season!

Next is Animated Hair. It makes your hair move as you run, use tools and so on. There are lots of hairstyles and it just looks so nice!

And one last one, Expressive Elf Ears. Like Animated Hair, they move around with your character! They are so floppy! If you want a little fantasy flavor to your character, they’re a must.

Some details below the cut

Fall Y2 was the first time I ever got Giant Crops! I was so EXCITED!

I had some space between my bee house set up and my main pathway so I decided to put some gnome girls! I am gonna have a bigger gnome village somewhere but idk where yet. But I made up a lil story for them. They've been neighbors forever and the entire village is like :eyes: about if they're gonna get together. But they're both oblivious. As useless lebians are lol

Winter Y2 I set up a little place to put my Winter Star tree but then once Winter is over I turn it into a swinging bench.

I really like the scarecrows I'm using in my fields. Little bunnies. No sprinklers because I'm using RSV and just paying the handy boys to water my crops every day.

I'm also decorating the inside of my house. This is my main home, it has an underground floor/basement. I keep my fish collection here and I'm learning how to decorate the inside of a house. Which I'm just @.@ about. I have the legendary fish in the big fish tank rn! I haven't gotten to the rest of the house.

I still haven't married anyone. I'm not even dating anyone but I am friends with MOST people in the valley, Ridgeside, and East Scarp. I did finish the community center. I've made it to Ginger Island. I play Expanded and I finished doing the Nexus over winter. I think I have done most of the Expanded content that's available other than romance Lance and I think the Wizard getting his apprentice. But I know I have a lot to do in Ridgeside and East Scarp too and of course finish decorating my entire farm.

Maybe next time I'll post the inside of my shed and greenhouse. It's a MESS in there lolol

Hey there! What are your favorite mods?

Oh boy now this is a question.

I absolutely cannot play without these mods. They are my favorite

Starblue Valley - This desaturates the games colors making it more toned down, I love it to death

Stardew Valley expanded - this mod is so fun, it adds a few new characters and adds a ton of fun stuff to the game.

Medieval Buildings by Gweniaczek - I love these reskins. I've used them for years and I have had the honor of watching it grow and evolve.

Seasonal Villager Outfits - This mod is a must have, although the creator has since stopped updating it, I still have the files and they still work. this adds a nice little touch to the game giving the characters a bit more variety.

Ridgeside Village - This is an even bigger expansion mod, many new characters. extensive story lines, beautiful work on the sprite s and portraits. this mod is truly a labor of love. I cannot recommend this one more. Definitely becoming a favorite. I just got into it and I am excited to learn all I can about its story lines.

these are my favorites but theres a ton more I use when I play and they're just too many to name. Not to mention the furniture files I've edited together, and other small cosmetic changes I've made.

[Stardew Faves] Linus

I do think Stardew offers enough diverse and colourful characters, in a way it improves on some harvest moon games, where a lot of characters  seemed bland.I loved hm games but  I think my favourite  games and characters, especially bachelors were from More friends of Mineral Town, another wonderful Life (I really loved the concept of that game) and Animal Parade - I loved Calvin, the special bachelor harvest god (for once), Toby and a few others but I really always disliked rival heart events - I always tried not to see them, I just don’t like them. The above are probably my favourite hm games, whose charm still holds strong for me.  I like Stardew for including a good variety. i don’t like all of them (I  even dislike a few) but fortunately there are a few like Harvey I could come to love - and thanks to characters I could come to love, I am able to enjoy Stardew. Characters, no matter what other things are fun in a game like Stardew, are still very important for the immersion. Without at least one character I could love completely (Harvey),  I would like the game a lot less and wouldn;t be as immersed in it.  And Linus is another character I liked from the moment I first launched the game.

Linus lives in a tent in the mountains. He’s a lovely, wise character, one with nature and that loveliness is brought out by haywrites in the phenomenal mod, it must be my favourite by haywrites.  It overhauls his dialogue completely, but I did love his vanilla lines as well. Haywrites made two versions. I’m not sure which one i’m using, I think 1.0.0  but I love it regardless whether it’s a little more depressing than 2.0 or not. Linus is still lovely and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve been reading of him. In fact, even if this version i have is a little more bittersweet, then I like it all the more because then his friendship with the farmer is all the stronger and has even more resonance.  But I think I’d love 2.0 just as much, haywritres has done a great job.

By the way, I’m also using Starblue Valley map recolour - those colours are perfect, vanilla were way too...bright and i couldn’t stand them. But once again hard working modders come to the rescue and I can’t even begin to describe how much i appreciate Stablue Valley recolour, it’s absolutely delightful! 

So here’s a collection of some lines and things about Linus that appeal to me. largely not vanilla. SO SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT. 

 Haywrites’ Linus has interesting and wise stories to tell, I really absolutely love it. I’ll add more to the list when they appear, there are hundreds new lines thanks to haywrites that really made him all the more lovely.

BEGINNING TO PERFECTION | STARDEW VALLEY 🐔🎃🍓🌻👩🏻‍🌾

Stardew valley is an incredibly relaxing game to play.

How it started vs. How it’s going.  179:26 hours later on Year 5 Day 4 I reached perfection for the first time on a Stardew Valley save file. This is Bashful Farm & my name is Cookie. Designing is still a work in progress, but it’s coming along. 

This is the second farm I created after purchasing the game on January 1, 2021. The first farm I created was a hot mess, so after figuring out how the game worked 156 hours later I started this farm.
