2023 Year Results

I have lost my ranking of favorite Thai BL/QLs that I made during half of the year, so I'm just going to write it anew^^

I keep changing the places and Moonlight Chicken held such a strong place in my heart but now I'm also taking into account whether I liked all pairings and characters, so BMF finally took over. But I still can't decide whether The Eclipse is higher than Not Me, I might rewatch it endlessly but Not Me was a cultural reset :D As well as Semantic Error who's done so good and finally broke through the typical Korean BL setting and public's favor.

Bad Buddy has done amazingly as well but there are only 5 places in Top 5 ranking 🥲 I guess, the Our Skyy just dimmed my good memories about it a little bit x)

I love how this year we got shows that have expanded beyond the borders of usual BLs, they added mystery and mystic, action, time travelling, sitcom etc, mixed gentes, kept speaking out about many important things - from marriage legalisation to equal rights - that definitely had its own impact on real life, actors went on many fanmeetings overseas, from West to East, and overall... This was a good year, story and fandom wise.

My Fanfic Statistics

I stopped writing metas and somewhat distanced myself from the fandom when I felt that my views often didn't align with majority (and also got shadowbanned by tumblr?), but I wrote ~ 80k words on AO3 and drew >10-15 arts that I really enjoyed. I still have many wips so look forward to them!

I wrote way too many Only Friends fics whole I watched the show xD This was definitely a show that gave out ideas (and sometimes outrage) and lots of angst.

But Not Me fics are still my number one (though mostly because of all the crossovers with other series I keep writing about)

Also somehow Bad Buddy OT4 fic is now the longest fanfic I've ever written (both in Neglish and my native language). And it's still not finished but tbh even I don't know exactly how it will end, that's how self-indulgent this is but I'm so happy rhat many people were excited about this idea with me!

My Fandom

I also had a blast having various discussions in my own small community and people who wanted to share opinions and watch series together. You guys keep inspiring and supporting me in exploring many ideas, drawing art and writing many fics, I truly admire and adore you all, especially my fam @springkitten @xagan and also @thepancakelady @wereflamingo (I'm surprised how often we agreed with each other on somethjng but that's what makes discussions interesting xD).

Also I want to hug bad buddy server was a joyful discover this year too that inspired me to start learning Thai, our not me server that keeps being my safe comfort space and many hugs to some tumblr folks who I talk in replies and reblogs (I am truly bad at remembering usernames but if I ever chatted with you here, I am definitely thinking about you and your profile picture <3)

Here's to 2024 and more projects

I also started my FirstKhao AU visual novel, and though I thought I would be able to make it in a month or two and then got struck by Health Doing Bad for a long time, I'm definitely determined to finish it next year.

And we keep talking about making Poetry Zines with @springkitten inspired by lakorns/bls we watched and I'd like to try and make it happen 👀

I also want to return to commissions in a better way, because of political situation I haven't been able to continue drawing for my foreign friends but thanks to my other friends who are generous to help me with handling finances for me, I might be able to start drawing requests again! I also spent like 5 months fixing my health that kept me from creating I want to finish old ones and I'm really itching to return to drawings and other projects :D

And I have in my mind mastering pixel and 3d art as a part of my Changing Profession and Career Path in 2024 so let's hope I can lighten up everyone's mood with cooler art and animations 👀

i just like leather bookmarks!! originally lb was a non-kpop sideblog, and i wanted something that wouldn't be fandom-specific (i don't really like changing usernames) but that at the same time would fit my current fandom (the hobbit hehe). so, leatherbookmark!!

as for my ao3 username, oenanthe is a name of two genera: birds and plants, but i took mine from the bird one. specifically, this little guy. i love that the latin name is so pretty (wine+flower) but both english and polish taxonomers went "this bird has a white ass. alright then here you go"

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?

hm!! i think i just... started doing it? when i was a kid and browsing blogs about the witch comic series, i stumbled upon some blogs that weren't like, character profiles and comic arc summaries, but instead basically chaptered fanfiction. and since that, i kind of seeked out people's fics, often more than canon material like scans, databases and such lol.

iirc i started out making comics about my OCs, weird little AUs (like... utena characters, but magical girls/boys lmfao), or "original" comics obviously were just crazy mixes of whatever i was into at the moment. i only started writing fic when i was, idk, ten? and even then it was more like "ough i have a certain scene/image/mood/feeling in my brain and i need to get it Out" than actual stories :')

another thing that hasn't changed until sort-of-very-recently was me just.... starting anew every new fandom. i'd be into fandom X for years, produce tons of fics, and then once i got into fandom Y i was like oh fuck this is all so embarrassing, STARTING A NEW ACCOUNT RIGHT AWAY OR WE DIE. 👍 on one hand cool, on the other i sometimes envy writers who don't have to log into three separate accounts to see all their stats ='D

the twelfth house || the unconscious

this is my personal fav house! this is probably going to become a series at some point but I wanted to start here! :) this mainly goes into the house itself. might go further into the usual “this native does ___, etc” at some point!! :D

the twelfth house is known as the house of karma—the house of delusion, misconceptions, the metaphysical, miscommunication, secrets, the unknown, dreams, ideals, unconditional love, the life path, and soulmates. and you might be thinking something like wow, those are opposites.

they are. It’s a tightrope that you never seem to reach the end of. either way, you fall. you can embrace the rush for what it is before you hit the ground, or you keep going and going and going until your legs give out and you’re too tired to even register the ending. but either way, you make it out alive, somehow.

you thought the process would kill you, but it didn’t, and now you feel something like free, and that alone is worth the hell it took. 12H placements can be difficult, but they are not impossible.

the 12th house is still my favorite house.

to me, a big part of any 12H/piscean/neptunian energy are the absolute extremes that come with it, whether they’re negative or positive. the end of the cycle is defined by the resurfacing of every lesson learned prior. applying that knowledge. allowing emotion to seep through the surface but not allowing it to destroy you in your entirety. or not and facing total destruction. living through a Tower moment and seeing a glimpse of the Star as you’re falling.

the ending to bring you back to a beginning—back to aries, the 1st house, mars, the fool. 

ready to start anew. destruction—but not quite in a fire-ruled way, as it’s so often thought of. this is destruction from the inside out. the careful eroding of borders from within until there is nothing left to salvage.

you start from nothing, but it’s a freeing kind of nothing.

in a natal chart, someone with heavy piscean-natured placements/connections is likely to have things brimming under the surface, quiet secrets that can seem so unpredictable. the kind of secrets that chain you down and nearly fucking kill you.

think: I never expected that, holy shit. but you look at everything together and suddenly it starts making a little bit of sense. but that can depend on the person looking. it depends on what they’re seeing.

now, you might be asking: what are 12H type things? and that’s a good question. strictly astrologically speaking, whatever sign is in the 12H will be a big pointer in the right direction. it differs for everyone—what one person holds dearest to them (and I use dearest roughly here) will not be the exact same for somebody else.

I love you whispered into the dark against someone’s bare back when you know they fell asleep ages ago. it’s the only time you’ve ever said it. you have this feeling in your chest that it’ll be the only time you ever will. (synastry venus/moon in 12H)

knowing something is wrong with someone even though they’re 10,000 miles away. you have this feeling, and you’re never wrong, and they answer the phone in tears when you call. (synastry/composite, usually. anything to personal planets.)

the feeling in your chest that you’re going to marry them. that this is it for you, and this is everything you’ve been waiting for, and then suddenly it’s gone. it’s water slipping through your hands. (synastry venus/moon/mercury in 12H)

a song plays, and you know that when (not if, somehow), this is over, this will be something that you’ll relate to the ending of what you have now. (12H stellium: synastry/composite/natal)

on the flip side—you know that this is it for you. you wake up every morning and you know that this is yours and that it will always be. (synastry/composite moon/venus/sun in 12H)

I think if Liam tried actually finding his sound, his real footing in the music he actually* wants to make, he could possibly find an entire new audience that is not reliant on stans opinions and he wouldn’t have to grovel or try and please old 1 D fans. while ppl will always find something to critique about him I feel like he could genuinely do big things since he was?/is? passionate about music. he really just needs a real manager and a real team behind him he could rebrand as a whole and start anew little by little to finally stand on his own without mentioning that band or constantly having his words misconstrued., his image also was all over the place and it felt like they just let him say whatever to get ppl riled up. like whatever team he has now does not care about him AND does not care about his career. hopefully things change for the better for him and if he decides to step away from being a performer in favor of song writing or something else than best of luck to him always <3

Oh I agree with a lot of things you said!

I also think that he was very pressured from the beginning to follow a certain sound and even to collaborate with so many artists. He really did everything and every genre! And the pressure to have a hit song was even bigger since his 1st single was so big! Everything after that that didn't meet a standard was deemed a "flop".

His album was a bit confusing, especially with lacking a direction. Don't get me wrong because I love LP1 and it has great songs in there, but the lack of promo and all the hate was crazy! And I believe one of the reasons he wasn't confident in it or even in announcing a solo tour.

Again, I feel like it needs to be said that his first singles were successful mostly due to the good promo and the public liking it. 1D fans were never 100% supportive of him contrary to what they did to the others. The most recent problem is that his team (if they can be called that) completely damaged his public image and the support he had gathered from the GP.

I do believe that he is a great producer and songwriter, not even to mention all the help he tries to provide to new up and coming artists from all over the world and accross platforms (The LP shows with Veeps were a sign of that). I can clearly see him doing that. He knows what to do, what not to do, he has the contacts, knows the music industry, etc. It could even be a great way to help rebuild his place in the music industry and even his public image.

If he decides to release a new song then good for him and we'll all be here to support him. But if he decides to stay behind the scenes for a while, then I'll support him too. I don't want to add more pressure on his back or for him to do things that are expected of him instead of doing the things that he wants and truly believes in!

Okay, so, I started BG3. But this post is not about spoilers. It's about how it looks.

You see, I preordered it when it first became available, and participated in Early Access for most of its duration (except for two last patches). As you may know, during the development Larian abruptly changed the system requirements. And while my laptop with old GTX1050 was sitting comfortably enough in the middle of the old requirements, it's barely able to crawl under the minimum of the new version.

So, while the game was running smoothly with the medium graphic settings at the start of EA, by druids patch I couldn't even get to the first settlement because of the freezes, textures lagging in and out of their blurry existence, T-posing, etc. It was pretty bad.

Reportedly, the final game should have been optimized a bit better, so I decided to give it a shot and see how it looks like on the same laptop almost 3 years since the first download.

Yeah, I know that the cloud gaming exist. It costs money and needs a speedy internet connection.

And the game greeted me with this.

(Changed everything from medium to low except for the texture quality - it's still on medium. Had to say goodbye to the distance blur as well)

Compare it to this from 2020 (screen from another person with approximately same old settings, my screenshots of the old character creation room didn't survive):

Same laptop, same graphic card, 3 years of development in-between.

Which is especially gutting, because the hair quality was really good during the first EA patches even on the lower graphic settings and older machines. But at some point the developers decided to change it, turning it into greasy looking pixelated something.

Larian, why :(

Some hairstyles managed to lag through into something decent.

Others did not.

The hair's reaction to lightning in this room/location is atrocious btw.

Even when the textures are fully uploaded.

It's a LED wig, I got it.

Comparison of the first model appearance vs after the textures loaded in is quite funny, though.

It jumped to the left version each time I moved the camera in/out even a tiny bit, loading the textures from the right anew. Each. Time. The same happened during the last patches of EA, except that back then the loading could take a few minutes. Now it's either ~15 sec or not loading at all here.

Tbh, after seeing all of that in the dressing room, I dreaded of what would I see during the main game.

But it's surprisingly better. Almost no jarring rounded pixelation, and no jumping between abyssmal low and normal version of textures.

The reaction to light still sucks sometimes. The hair pick too much from the light sources that are barely visible otherwise and don't light up anything else to the same degree.

As for the optimization: yes, it indeed became better. Still not the first EA release quality for me, sadly, but by far better than the latest EA patches. Textures are way more steady now: they still take a few seconds to load in during the big cutscenes, but it's like nothing compared to the previous mess. During the regular exploration gameplay character (and most of environmental) textures are always steady. I even managed to watch the full crashing cutscene as a, well, cutscene instead of three half-loaded frames that took 20 min to render. And I was running freely on the beach despite the falling ash and everything that almost killed my frames back then.

Also, it still doesn't heat up my laptop all that much, which is a pleasant surprise.

Well, stay tuned for more cursed images, I guess.

I am not really seeing if they’re from work or somewhere else, but what I DO see is that there is an instant attraction/connection. When I think of it in the scope of the question, I see it like instead of being friends first or simply colleagues who get to know each other, I think right away that the two of you will be flirty, enjoy each other’s company, and want to see each other romantically.

In addition to that general info, the cards DO warn about being aware of getting too dependent and losing focus. What I think this means is that you WILL fall for this person pretty hard; they are charming and you feel great being around them. SO. how the Kingdom worked in my Voidling timeline.

Basically you ahd all the canon towns and kingdoms on Earthbread, but at the center of it all was a kingdom that I don't think had a name, so we just called it the Kingdom.

It's the stand in for the kingdom you build in game, and it was bascially a place to go if you were escaping the war. If you had nothing left, if you needed to escape, if you just wanted a break from your birthplace, the Kingdom was right there. And after the war, it kept exisiting as it did, acting as a place for others to start anew if they were outcasted by the rest of the kingdoms.

There were a bunch of 'districts', each one themed around a specific biome (like a wintery area or a remake of Dragon's Valley) or preeixiting kingdom (like the Hollyberry Kingdom or the City of Wizards). There were also some nonthemed areas. There was a large beach which held a bunch of events, offshoots of the three 'main' schools as well as schools for those who wanted something different, there was a large marketplace somewhere as well.

As for the canon cookies, they ended up there for several reasons. Sparkling had the juice bar, the TCC champions ran away from their schools, Stardust and Space Doughnut wanted to learn how to live, Crunchy Chip and Wildberry needed a break from their respective kingdom, etc. I also think most of the cookies of darkness ended up there as well after the war, trying to heal and fix their mistakes.

It was a really nice place :]

I actually have one specific memory: I couldn't sleep and had recently arrived in the Kingdom. at some point before I ended up there, I had spent a long time in a cold and empty environment, and as hard as it was, I missed that. So, I wandered over to the winter kingdom area, and just kinda sat there watching the snow fall onto the trees filled with lanterns.

So yeah, honestly this is just something I've been trying to figure out for a couple months and it's fun to talk about :D - Voidling Anon

Highlights from Prismatic Dawn battle (the Remire Village battle for those who know FE3H):

Celin got dropped to 9 HP because she was in the center of a big AOE spell (not fireball but idk what it was) an took a shit ton of fire damage, ran over to heal Dimitri and Dedue who also took a shit ton of fire damage, and she then took more damage at the end of her turn bc she wouldn't leave the big fire without them. Also at one point there was some action confusion and Dimitri got to run out of the big fire but Dedue didn't leave until Celin was out. They truly are both like that. 😭

I learned that Celin's horse has a higher wisdom score than she does.

We were so spread out across the battlefield that we all had pieces of what was going on and nobody had all of it. Celin did not actually do a lot of fighting, she mostly got some kids to safety, pulled some knights out of fires (we joked about modern AU firefighter Celin and I want this), and, as I put it "ran back and forth like a frantic collie just going 'EVERYBODY STAY IN ONE PLACE.'" Consequently, she has no idea that a) the Flame Emperor was there, b) Sven's dad (the main Slither guy in our game bc Cressida replaced Thales and Solon, etc. with other characters) was there fucking shit up again, c) the unconscious girl she healed and ran out of the battlefield was an Agarthan but also sort of Sven's half-sister? and d) the kids she got out of the fire at the start of the battle were Kyrie's resurrected siblings????????

Cressida on some of those points: "But does she have kind of an idea?" Me: "She has a wisdom of 9 so no."

At one point Dimitri went into a rage and ran off the map to go fight the Death Knight and half of us were like BITCH and followed him but my brain leapt from that to remembering how, historically in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses video game when Dimitri goes off map to charge after an enemy, it does not go well for him to realizing, "Yeah if Dimitri dies, Celin is gonna straight up tell Dedue about our Crest of Flames shit and also our access to resurrection rituals. I know we promised to keep it a secret but if he dies she's IMMEDIATELY gonna tell Dedue that she has a way to bring him back to life because she doesn't trust what he'll do if he thinks Dimitri is permadead." (We have, in the past, resurrected Mercedes.)

After the fight was over, Dimitri was super pissed, as...you know, is canon. Celin saw how there were so many more bodies of villagers than there were the people who actually caused this and in the mindlink to Sylvain was like "Yeah I get the anger though." Also on that point, she said "FUCK" or "GODDESS DAMNIT" in the mindlink in a panic like three times during the battle so I think she's fully embraced that she is now a person who swears. This is her life now. She lost her religion, she and her friends are in dangerous and emotionally wrought situations every five minutes, someone experimented on a bunch of innocent villagers, and she is a person who says fuck now.

Kyrie and Solstice had a talk with the Flame Emperor that was very tense where FE was basically like "Join me." And Kyrie and Solstice were like "Give us more information please." And FE was like "No information, only join me." However, they did say the whole "the world will be purged in flames and made anew."

I realized that while I would love to have a Golden Route, I don't know if CELIN is gonna be capable of it. Because she's very "reform not abolish" - and also feels like Slither is at the root of most of the bad shit, so while the Church has some things to answer for it's not...the big bad here??? - and she would respond to "the world will be purged in flames" with like " respectfully no?????????? we live in the world???????? a lot of people live in the world???????? people die when you purge them in flame." Also Edelgard's whole "Yeah I don't want children to suffer anymore...and so I'm going to start a war and kill thousands but after that when the world is exactly what I want it to me then they'll be fine" is not something I ever see her siding with. Our Black Eagles character, Sven, has like an A support with Edelgard and may have a shot at persuading her out of the war thing (but a long shot since Edelgard's main personality trait is being...unyielding), but has said that ultimately if he can't, he's already pledged himself to her and would side with her. So we might go into the post timeskip with some of the PCs, who all deeply love each other, on opposite sides of the war. 😬

The Dragon God of Renewal, Vorel

Vorel, my dragon world's god of renewal and new life, son of Io resurrected by Tiamat, patron saint of whelps!

Anyway, here's some more context, and maybe a story:

Sometimes on Twitter I'll write little dragon scenarios and worldbuilding that I can't seem to draw out at my glacial pace, nor get commissioned with my light wallet. I notice Easter comes around and I want to do one related to it, but I feel it awkward doing Easter in a world which while the holiday is based in Christianity, the world has tangible gods. These tangible gods I basically ripped off the ones from DnD (Io, then Bahamut and Tiamat), and gave my own spin on them. This is where I find a blurb that says that Vorel was Io's creation earlier than Bahamut and Tiamat, more innocent than the two but still loved by Io all the same. Indeed, just as it is there, the feud between Bahamut and Tiamat builds because of the latter's jealousy over the former giving so much love and attention towards Vorel, and just the same Tiamat kills Vorel and frames Bahamut, but Io knows all and banishes her. Just the same, this starts many years of rift and history between Tiamat's chromatic dragon army and that of Bahamut's metallics.

Here is where D&D and I converge: Fast forward to the waning days of the medieval era. Many wars, famine, strife, and glory not only of dragons but of many races later; but now the Black Death has come and ravaged the medieval population all over. Tensions between dragons and humans already strained, for the next couple of centuries humans would start hunting down dragons in a fever pitch, metallic and chromatic alike. Indeed, a weary Tiamat, her cunning and evil worn down by the changing times, does what she previously thought unthinkable; go to Io's temple and ask for his and Bahamut's forgiveness in one last desperate gambit, knowing full well that she had done too much over the many ages to warrant it. However, Io and Bahamut are more than forgiving, the latter willing to open his heart back up even to the most intense of rivals. Bahamut and Tiamat embrace, and Vorel's ghost appears to them; he also embraces the dragons and especially Tiamat. Vorel then offers to be resurrected as an egg as a token of his forgiveness, and Tiamat, though unfamiliar with feelings of love and motherhood, accepts. The desperate gambit is a success: Bahamut and Tiamat create a new distant world along with Io, with many diverse landscapes, double the size of Earth, and several smaller moons.

Once they get to the new world, Tiamat lays the egg, and sometime later, Vorel hatches anew and begins his second chance at life. This signals a fresh start for both Tiamat and Vorel, and of dragons as a whole; distinction between chromatic and metallic becomes blurred, and both types live together, beget each other, and enjoy their company (of course, some factions that resent this union will exist, but that's another story for another time). Indeed, she raises him as her son, learning how to love and how to be a mother. And they visit Bahamut, and even Io, a lot, too!

Vorel, being a dragon god, focuses on renewal and of new life, as well as being a patron saint of childhood too; many holidays that celebrate these concepts he loves to celebrate as well, and involve stories involving him and the elder dragon gods. Some say his adoration for bunnies is the source of the dragon world's concept of Easter, or in some places within known as "Voreltide". While his scales are light blue and silver, they give off a bit of a rainbow sheen; his pupils, horns, footpads, sails of his wings, etc. shine with each known color and possible dragon color; the tailtip is diamond on one side, spade/heart on another, club on another, signifying the possible tailtips dragons can have. Dragon gods have a special birthmark which can sometimes be hard to see, but is prominent somewhere on his body; Vorel's is of a dragon's egg right by the base of his tail. While he's been alive for several hundred dragon years (also as long as the dragon world has been around), he maintains an innocent and childlike mindset, and very rarely seen outside of a whelp form.

So of course, it's very hard to translate all of this when you're working with colored pencils, but I hope this does it well enough. Hope you enjoy!
