Early Summer 1987
Steve's hosting a going away party. For everyone. Nancy going to Emerson, Jonathan and Argyle back to California, Steve and Robin moving to Indy, Eddie going off to find his fortune, wherever it may lie.
They've been at it all day, drinking and smoking and loving each other in the way you do when you've subverted several apocalypses together. And Steve is happy. He is. Truly. They're getting out of Hawkins, starting their lives, and he'll be with Robin, his other half, his sister, the platonic love of his life.
But as the night continues and Steve looks around his living room, at all these people he loves--at half of the family they built out of tragedy and fear--his joy turns to melancholy. They're spreading in the wind, chasing the dreams they put on hold to save the world. It's a bittersweet end, and suddenly Steve can't be in the house anymore.
He slips out the sliding door, fully expecting to be alone, but Eddie stands at the edge of the pool, glow of a cigarette illuminating his face. Steve's stomach flips, skitters with butterfly wings, like it always does when he and Eddie are together.
Eddie turns at the sound of the door thumping softly shut, face creasing into a brilliant smile when he spots Steve. It's a smile so beautiful, so genuine, that it makes Steve hurt when it's directed at him. Hasn't been able to help noticing that usually it is, that Eddie--even in full theatrical Eddie-mode--only smiles like this, all dimples and affection, for Steve.
"Okay, Stevie?" Eddie asks.
"Just needed some air."
Eddie offers the cigarette, so Steve sidles up next to him, lining his toes up with the pool edge so they match.
With a nudge, Eddie settles closer, wrapping his arm around Steve's waist. It's not the first time they've embraced like this, not the first time the proximity makes Steve think he'll burst into flame, but it is the first time Steve leans in, rests his head at the join of Eddie's neck and shoulder. They're of a height, and it's just enough that the position is comfortable, easy. Though, everything with Eddie is now.
They smoke in silence for a few minutes, both lost in their own thoughts before Steve speaks, not even sure if he means to, but the words are tumbling out. "Everything's changing."
"It's a good thing," Eddie says. "Right?"
"Yeah, yeah, totally." Steve runs his hands through his hair, pushing it back. "It's just. Thinking about how nothing will ever be the same after this, you know?"
"Maybe," Eddie agrees. "But--I don't know--You think Dustin isn't going to demand visits to all of us? Cross-country roadtrips every summer?"
Eddie offers the cigarette back to Steve, only this time, he moves to place it between his lips and Steve adjusts to let him. Maybe it's an accident, maybe not, but Eddie's thumb strokes the corner of Steve's mouth. Their eyes meet, something hot, wanting passes between them.
"I'm going to do something," Eddie whispers. His eyes drop to Steve's lips. "Don't kill me, okay? Please."
Steve doesn't get a chance to say he'd never hurt Eddie, not in a million years, because the other man is stomping out the cigarette, slotting their mouths together.
There's no hesitation, no questioning, Steve kisses back and it's so soft, so sweet, gentle in a way that he's never been kissed, not even once. And when Eddie licks at the seam of Steve's lips, he opens without thought, because of course he wants Eddie to taste his mouth, to nip at his lips, to slide their tongues together. He fists his hand into the fabric of Eddie's shirt, pulling them closer together. They moan and sigh, swallowing each other's noises, reveling in sensation.
The sliding door pops open, runners scraping, and Robin's voice singsongs, "Steeeve, we're loooooking for you."
Eddie breaks the kiss, turning away, and Steve stumbles towards the door. Doesn't wonder what Robin knows because he sees it in her face, but she's yanking him into the house and everyone is shouting, Argyle hands him a joint, and he lets himself be pulled along, lets himself forget, doesn't notice when Eddie doesn't come back right away.
And the next morning, when they say their goodbyes and Eddie pulls him into a tight, bone-crushing hug, neither of them mentions it. Eddie says, "don't be a stranger," throws him a smile, and he's gone.
Steve can't explain why it hurts so much.
Winter 1991
The invitation--cream and gold, embossed lettering--sits on Eddie's kitchen counter. He knew it was coming, of course, of course, but it hadn't really prepared him to see it. "The families of Steve Harrington and Rebecca Alsworthy cordially invite you to celebrate their nuptials..." burns itself into his brain.
He's in the wedding. Steve asked months ago if Eddie would be a groomsmen, and he said yes; yes because Steve is his best friend, yes because in the moment it didn't hurt so bad, yes because Steve could ask him for anything and he'd give no other answer.
They never talked about what happened the night before they both left Hawkins. It's fine. Truly. Better this way. Steve is straight. So straight he's getting married, and that's good. What he's always wanted, six little nuggets, etc. Eddie is happy for him. He's happy for Steve, but it eats him up inside; the kiss, the love he harbors for his best friend. He should end it, he knows, but ending it is so final and Steve is--everything.
Before he can talk himself out of it, he picks up the phone, makes the call. Tells Steve he can't make it, book deadline, and Steve is disappointed. He is. But they're best friends, saved the world together, so he understands.
When the call is done, his heart hanging together by a thread, he balls up the invite and throws it in the trash.
Summer 1991
Steve's wedding is in 12 hours and Eddie has to go. Can't believe he ever thought he could miss it. He can't not be there when Steve, his Steve, gets married. It doesn't matter how much it'll hurt to watch, because it will make Steve happy and Eddie will always default to making his best friend happy.
Somehow, through the grace of clear summer weather and light Indiana traffic, he makes it to the church with ten minutes to spare. He practically trips through the carved wood front doors, which would be embarrassing, except his eyes fall immediately to Steve standing at the alter and he forgets everything else. He's wearing a navy blue suit, silver accenting, and he's gorgeous. Will never not be. Their eyes meet, and Eddie's heart stops, because it always does. Steve smiles, gives a little wave, but he's pulled away by the minister, and Eddie makes his feet move down the aisle.
He spots Nancy, El, Max, and Erica in a pew, makes his way towards them. They all hug, scream about being back together, but it's Nancy whose eyes are soft, whose smile doesn't quite manage to be happy.
"You okay?" she asks. She wraps her little fingers around his.
His smile doesn't manage to be happy either. "I will be."
The ceremony starts, and he's fine, really, until Rebecca starts walking out to Steve, and he watches his best friend's face light up brighter than a cloudless day. He lets his attention go, then. In the moment where it truly counts, he can't stand to witness the man he loves marry someone else.
And Rebecca is fine, she is, but it's not about her. It's about a kiss in the middle of the night after they saved the world for the last time, and hope, and a love so sweet Eddie's entire chest is rotten with it.
He's out of it until Steve's voice manages to pull him back. He's saying, "I, Steve," and his eyes are locked to Rebecca's, and he's in the middle of repeating after the minister, who's saying "take thee, Rebecca."
Steve smiles, soft and gentle and fond, and he says--the words that come out of his mouth are, "take thee, Eddie--"
His loving smile evaporates, face going rigid with shock.
It's a punch, a kick to the groin, a knife in the gut, all the air in Eddie's lungs snaps out of his body. Nancy squeezes his hand, her nails digging into his skin, and he can't look at anyone else, can't see the reaction, because he's looking at Steve, and Steve is looking at him, abject panic on his handsome face.
Steve stumbles back, Rebecca's hands fallen from his, and Robin grabs him around the shoulders. She bends forward, whispering something in his ear, but it's too late. Steve's eyes are glassy, his body trembling.
"S-sorry, I need to--I have to--Sorry," the man says. He runs.
Eddie makes to stand, but Nancy, El, Max, and Erica force him to stay seated, and Robin's already running after her platonic soulmate, anyway.
"It didn't mean anything," Eddie says. "It was just--he was just. He's marrying Rebecca. It didn't mean anything."
It means everything.

The Danger in Romanticizing (Ao3 Link)
"Steve, I'm serious, you might absolutely hate Eddie."
Steve sighs and relaxes against their couch. This is the third time today that Robin has given him this warning. "I'm not going to terrorize him to the point that Chrissy breaks up with you."
Robin raises her eyebrows at him as if he would seriously do it. "You don't know Eddie though. He's... he's someone you would've hated in high school. He's loud, nerdy, dramatic, and he was in a band."
"Robin, he sounds just like you."
Robin's jaw drops. "Take it back."
Steve laughs, "Come on, he sounds great. I don't know why you and Chrissy think we'll hate each other."
"He was bullied in high school by jocks just like you, but he threw it right back at them," Robin says while pacing. "And Eddie to Chrissy is the equivalent of you to me - her platonic soulmate. If you two don't like each other, then I don't know what we'll do."
Steve stands up and grabs Robin by the shoulders, stopping her pacing. "It's going to be fine. If anything, we'll just make polite small talk any time we see each other. As far as I'm concerned, you like him and he's kind to you, so he's good on my list."
Robin nods but she doesn't look convinced.
"I just can't believe that you two waited a month to introduce us."
Robin sighs and walks away from him, brushing off imaginary dust on their couch and chair. "It'll be easier to explain when you meet him."
"When are they supposed to get here again?"
Robin glances at the clock and goes pale. The doorbell rings and Steve feels a sudden rush of nerves. He doesn't know why he's so nervous to meet this man. He really likes Chrissy, and he can't imagine her being best friends with someone he wouldn't like.
Robin takes a deep breath and looks Steve over for a second sighing as if disappointed in something.
"What?"
"Nothing," Robin says quickly and rushes to the front door. She pauses and looks over her shoulder. "Just please be nice."
Steve gives her a thumbs-up and shoves his hands in the pockets of his jeans, waiting for this mystery man to appear.
The door opens and Steve spots Chrissy first, sporting a very nervous smile, and then the door opens all the way to reveal Eddie.
And holy shit. With all the warnings, it never crossed Steve's mind that the man could be so damn hot. He's wearing a black t-shirt with some band on it that Steve doesn't know but the short sleeves show off a few tattoos that make him curious about how many he may be hiding under the rest of his clothes. He tries not to let his eyes wander for too long, so he doesn't dare stare for any longer, glancing back up at Eddie's face in hopes that he hasn’t been caught.
He feels his heart speed up a little bit as he finds Eddie looking him up and down quickly before shooting him a small smile. And god, he has dimples.
Steve smiles back at him and walks to the front door. He bends down to pull Chrissy into a hug first before pulling away to hold a hand out to Eddie. He takes it, and Steve's eyes catch on his rings quickly. He wonders if the whole tough exterior was built to protect him while simultaneously drawing attention. "Hey, I'm Steve."
"Eddie," he says back. And his damn voice goes straight through him.
"Oh shoot, I forgot to grab something from the store before we got here," Chrissy says. "Robin, will you come with me to get it?"
"I can-" Eddie starts to say, but Robin's already grabbing Chrissy's hand and pulling her out the front door.
It closes loudly and Steve winces at the noise.
Eddie turns to him and awkwardly smiles. "So..."
"So," Steve says, noticing the hesitation coming from Eddie. He wonders... "Can I just come out and ask if you've been getting the same warning that we might hate each other?"
"Yes!" Eddie says and lets out a deep breath. "And did they seriously just leave us alone thinking that?"
"They're lucky if we don't kill each other."
"If? Don't you mean 'when?'" Eddie asks with a teasing smile.
Steve laughs loudly and asks, "Do you want a beer or something?"
"God, I would love a beer."
Steve smiles and walks off to the fridge, grabbing two and gesturing Eddie over to the living room. They both sit on the couch a comfortable distance away from each other, and Steve ignores the itch to move closer. "So, I heard that you were in a band."
"And I heard you were a former jock."
Steve snorts and waggles his fingers at him. "Your worst nightmare."
Eddie dramatically leans away from him with a hand over his heart. "Good heavens, you're absolutely repulsive."
Steve finds himself laughing again. He has no idea why Robin thought he would ever hate this guy.
"So," Eddie says with a small smile, "What are you doing now, former jock? Chrissy hasn’t mentioned you being in any of her classes or hanging around the college, so I’m assuming you don’t go there."
Steve runs a hand through his hair and leans back against the couch. "No, college isn’t for me. I'm working in sales at my dad's company. Specifically, as a car salesman." Eddie immediately cringes and Steve sighs, "Trust me. I know. But I'm absolutely horrible at my job. I can never bullshit someone. If they tell me what they're looking for, I'm giving them exactly that and not some overpriced bullshit."
Eddie raises his eyebrows. "But you're still selling cars, so it sounds like you're doing your job."
"Not the way my dad wants me to," Steve complains.
"So, why don't you do something else?" Eddie asks point blank.
Steve's a little taken aback by the bluntness, but he appreciates it. He shrugs. "I got horrible grades in high school to the point that I couldn't get into even the easiest colleges. Working with my dad just seemed like the only option."
"For a while I was thinking about working at the plant with my uncle because high school was terrible for me. I managed to fail my senior year twice before graduating."
"So, what are you doing now?" Steve asks, curious about what other options there are.
Eddie leans back against the couch and takes a long swig of his beer. Steve tries not to focus on the tendons in his neck as he swallows. "I had this moment after I graduated where I suddenly realized that my creative outlets suddenly vanished. My band had to take a break because everyone but Gareth graduated and Jeff and Grant were going to college, and I could no longer run Hellfire Club which got rid of my Dungeons and Dragons outlet. And for some reason, I was struck with this great idea to write a novel."
He shifts, crossing his legs under himself and looking off in the distance with a sad smile. "I just sat down and wrote and wrote. It's like the words were pouring out of me, and I couldn't stop them. God, I barely slept." He pauses as if he's reliving the moment. "Then, I had this extremely rough draft of this book, and I started calling publishers and I went to the first one who would take me. But they read it and told me it would be better as a children's story."
Steve can't help but interject, "That's just one person's opinion though."
Eddie nods and drinks more of his beer. "Yes, but they offered to actually look at it and publish it once I simplified it."
"Did you do it?"
Eddie nods. "Yeah, and I mean, it brought in a decent amount of money that I've been cruising on, but I don't know. There were so many things I wanted to expand on. I was aiming for a whole book series."
Steve turns to him and sits crisscrossed. "So, what's the children's book about?"
Eddie sighs, "You're going to find it so dumb."
"Try me."
Eddie puts his beer down on the coffee table and leans in to Steve. "So, it takes inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons. And it's about this boy who has never felt like he's fit in. For some reason, he's always been disliked by people or shunned for being different. Then, he comes across this monster, one that he's heard terrifying stories about from all these different adventurers. But instead of attacking it, he tries a different approach and finds that he can befriend the monster, and he ends up naming him Dart and they travel together. And for once he doesn't feel alone."
Steve's jaw drops as Eddie continues to describe the story, feeling frozen in place.
"Then, they come across more creatures, and they find they're all evil because they're always under attack. And yes, some are just pure evil, but it doesn't define the whole species. Then, the story gets really cheesy..." Eddie trails off with a groan. "God, this is embarrassing."
Steve finally finds his voice and continues for him, "Then, he's practically hunted by the town who assumes he's evil because he's with all these monsters which they think he must have some sort of dark control over. But then when an even bigger monster comes and threatens to destroy the whole town, they turn to him for help. The boy becomes a hero, but he goes back with the rest of the monsters who always accepted him for who he was."
Eddie's eyes become considerably wider by the end of Steve's narration. "How do you...?"
Steve grabs his hand and pulls him to his room, opens the door, and goes through the small stack of books on the bottom shelf of his nightstand. He pulls out Eddie's book and holds it up. "You're Eddie Munson?"
Eddie nods, totally bewildered.
"Holy shit," Steve says with a big smile, "Dustin loves this book!"
"Dustin?"
"One of the kids I used to babysit, he's in high school now, but he went on about this book for weeks. He loves Dungeons and Dragons, and as soon as I saw it, I bought it for him. He thought it was some kind of joke because it's a children's book, but he read it and developed so many theories about it. He made all his friends buy it because he thinks it could change the whole universe of Dungeons and Dragons. Shit, you’re like a legend to him."
Eddie's mouth just opens and closes. "I- I don't know what to say."
"Could you possibly meet him sometime? No pressure at all, but he'd love you."
"Yeah! Definitely," Eddie says and excitedly bounces a bit. "God, I've never met a fan before."
"I have to warn you that he may be a bit much, and I don't think he would ever leave you alone after this. But it would make his entire year, maybe even his whole life."
Eddie just smiles widely and nods. "Yeah! Yeah, I mean, I can also be a lot, so I'm ready. Just let me know when."
Steve smiles and shakes his head. "This is so cool. And thank you, really, this means the world to me."
"Same here," Eddie says.
The two let the excitement bubble down a bit, but the smiles don't leave their faces. Eddie glances around though and asks, "No offense, but why is your room so..."
"Empty?" Steve fills in for him. Eddie nods. "Well, my parents didn't really let me decorate my room, and I've just never really known what I wanted to do with my own place. So, I've kind of put it on the back burner. Plus, I spend most of my time in Robin's room or in the living room."
Eddie looks around and shakes his head. "My room is covered in shit. It's like I never have enough wall space or floor space for everything I want."
"I can see why Robin and Chrissy thought we wouldn't like each other," Steve says, sitting on his bed covered in a plain blue comforter and patting the empty space next to him.
Eddie follows the cue and sits down. "That all feels like surface-level bullshit."
"I think they're so blinded by their love for each other that they couldn't think beyond it. I know Robin's scared shitless of messing things up."
"God, so is Chrissy. I swore that even if you were the biggest asshole I was going to pretend to like you. Luckily, you're making it easy."
Steve feels the tips of his ears turning red. "Same here."
Eddie smiles at him, and Steve feels so enamored by him that he can't help but ask, "So, what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Are you seeing anyone?" Steve asks, hoping he doesn’t come off as too forward.
Eddie shrugs and looks down at his hands. "Sort of," he says and looks back at Steve. "I'm bisexual, so it's a little harder for me sometimes."
Bisexual. The label that Steve has personally struggled with for years.
"Shit, don't tell me your biphobic."
Steve snaps out of his mini panic and asks, "What?"
"You practically grimaced when I said bisexual. Or are you someone who is only okay with girls being in relationships but not guys?"
"No! No," Steve insists. He takes a deep breath. He's not sure what it is about Eddie that makes him feel so at ease, but he confesses, "It's just that... I think that I'm also bisexual. I don't know though. I know I've had feelings for guys and felt attraction, but I can't picture myself dating a guy. But I feel so horrible admitting that. Maybe I'm just a coward."
Eddie's expression shifts from guarded to sympathetic quickly. "Who can blame you though? The world sometimes just... sucks. But here's something that kind of blew my mind when learning about bisexuality - you can still have preferences. Like, for me, I have a preference towards men, but I can't deny that some girls I've had feelings for. Even Chrissy once upon a time, but I quickly realized how much better things were platonically. You can always have a preference for women; it doesn't have to be half and half."
It's like something finally clicks in Steve's head. He breathes a sigh of relief. "Where have you been all my life?" he asks somewhat dramatically.
Eddie laughs, "Being kept away by Robin and Chrissy."
Steve smiles and traces their conversation back a bit. He lands on a question and asks, "So, how are you sort of dating someone?"
Eddie groans and runs his hands over his face. "There's this guy I've been somewhat hooking up with at this bar. And he's just perfect, you know?"
"Oh no," Steve says, feeling the familiar phrase wash over him.
"What?"
Steve really looks at Eddie, accessing him fully before declaring, "You're a romanticizer."
Eddie scoffs. "How did you arrive at that conclusion?"
"'He's just perfect,'" Steve mimics him. "It's the dead giveaway. Plus, I am too. It gets me in trouble a lot. But I hate seeing it in other people. Like there's this asshole I work with that my dad loves but I absolutely despise. His name is Collin, and he's constantly bragging about all these women he has practically begging at his feet for his attention and shit. Then, at these work parties, Collin's wife will always just go on about how perfect her husband is. God, it kills me because she's so blind to it all. I would tell her, but my dad would kill me if I did anything that potentially would affect Collin working for him."
Steve sighs and clutches Eddie's book closer to his chest, not noticing until now how he's been unconsciously using it as a source of comfort. "Anyways, I just hate seeing people love blindly."
"I've done the same thing," Eddie admits, "But this time it feels different."
"Ten bucks he sucks."
This startles a laugh out of Eddie, but he sticks his hand out. "You're on." They shake on it quickly. "So, what about you? Are you currently romanticizing anyone?"
Steve smiles sadly. "Not at the moment, but feel free to call me out on it when I do."
"Looking forward to it," Eddie says with a smile. "Now tell me, do you have to wear those awful polos to do sales?"
"I do, but I'll have you know that I actually like those awful polos."
Eddie stands up and gasps, "I'm appalled. Please don't tell me you have more than five in your closet."
"I have way more than five. I actually almost wore one today, but I went with my comfort sweater instead."
Eddie walks slowly toward his closet door. "Is this where the source of disaster is?"
Steve raises his eyebrows and nods.
"May I?" Eddie asks with his hand on the knob.
"Prepare yourself."
Eddie takes a dramatic deep breath to gather himself before swinging the door open dramatically and yelling, "It's worse than I thought!"
"You haven't even looked through it!"
"I saw more than two collared shirts," Eddie says in horror. "Steve, I've decided that Robin and Chrissy are absolutely correct, and there's no way I could ever like you."
Steve laughs, but is interrupted by Chrissy and Robin suddenly barging into the room yelling, "What happened?"
Eddie and Steve look at them and laugh.
"We didn't hear you come in," Eddie says.
"We wanted to check the atmosphere as it was, but we heard you say the thing about not liking Steve and we thought..." Chrissy trails off.
Steve finds Robin staring at him while looking worried. "Steve, are you okay?"
Steve frowns. "Yeah, I'm fine, why?"
"You're holding your comfort book."
Steve flushes red and puts his head in his hands.
"His what?" Chrissy and Eddie ask.
"His comfort book. He reads it or makes me read it whenever he's sick, has a bad day, or misses Dustin."
"Robin," Steve groans, embarrassed by his secret being revealed.
The mattress shifts beside him and Steve glances toward the source, finding Eddie amusedly smiling down at him. "So, you're also a fan."
"Wait, what am I missing?" Robin asks.
"Eddie wrote that book," Chrissy answers and crosses her arms, "But he also tells no one about it."
Robin's jaw drops, but Steve ignores it to smile at Eddie. "Aw, so tell me, why me?"
A small blush appears on Eddie's cheeks. "And why me about your..." he trails off, looking nervously toward Chrissy.
Steve glances at Robin who looks at him, gesturing to explain. "I told him I was bisexual."
Robin's jaw drops again. She and Chrissy exchange a look of bewilderment.
Steve throws an arm around Eddie's shoulders and says, "Looks like you two were very wrong."
"And we're very upset that you kept us away from this beautiful friendship for so long."
"Very upset," Steve agrees.
"Oh god, I think we've created a monster," Robin says.
Chrissy just giggles.
“I don’t know, I kind of like the monsters Eddie creates,” Steve comments.
Eddie laughs and Steve looks at him fondly. He doesn’t think that Robin has ever been so wrong about something because there’s no way Steve could ever dislike Eddie.
Part Two :)

I can't stop thinking about Eddie having a massive bitch fetish for mean girl Steve, especially after they get together.
Like before, sure, he was just as much in King Steve's thrall as every other high school girl was, even if it was a secret he had planned on taking to the grave. Every time he'd hear him make a snappy comment to one of his friends or say something particularly cutting when he talked back to the teachers was enough to make Eddie flush.
But now that they're together it's even worse than high school Eddie could imagine. Because Steve Harrington is protective as fuck and when you mix that with being gay in small-town Indiana with a boyfriend whose the town pariah for murders he didn't commit, you get a lot of opportunities for bitchy Steve.
The check-out lady at the grocery store scoffs when she sees them holding hands? Steve's jumping in, "Wow Linda, guess you're not a champion for love huh? Is that why your husband left you last year?"
An ex-jock and current gas station attendant makes a comment about how Eddie should be in prison? "Weren't you the guy who shit his pants at Carol's party freshman year? Honestly, I feel like that's a worse social crime than anything my Eddie ever did."
An old teacher comments on how he's not "surprised" that Eddie never graduated when they run into him? "I guess that just goes to show how shitty of a teacher you were doesn't it? He passed his GED test on the first try, maybe you should just think of a different career option?"
He has an arsenal of embarrassing stories and tidbits for almost every person in Hawkins, courtesy of his near-daily gossip sessions with his mom. Even when they move in together, those don't stop, they just switch to weekly three-hour phone conversations. (The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?)
And Eddie loved how willing Steve was to stand up for him, he did, really. But every time Eddie had to bear witness to Steve tearing someone down for his benefit, it felt like he was losing his mind.
He'd flush, go bright pink, get weak in the knees, everything you would expect from a love-struck sixteen-year-old girl, not a twenty-one-year-old drug dealer. Half the time he had to drag Steve to the nearest unoccupied space just to kiss him, and the other half he was too busy trying to hide a humiliating hard-on.
Eddie keeps that specific obsession to himself, but he knows he doesn't have much time left before he figures it out. There are only so many impromptu make-out sessions mixed with snide comments before Steve puts two and two together.
And Eddie just knows that he will never let him live it down, which will only add fuel to the fire if he starts doing it on purpose to tease him. Steve already had him wrapped around his finger enough as is, he didn't need another thing to make him realize just how gone for him Eddie was.
No, this one was going to stay with him, a secret that he'd actually manage to take to his grave.
Or so he thought.

“That freak?” Your mom gasped, “my god, you must be joking.”
“Are you doing drugs with him?” Your dad quickly intervened.
You sat in front of them like a kicked puppy, quietly looking at your hands as they lectured you over Eddie.
You and Eddie met your freshman year of high school in chemistry class. He wasn’t good at english or science, and you were. You would help him do his homework (aka give him your answers) and he would let you sit with his odd ball friends at lunch. To you, rumors and all, he was lovely.
You two had been best friends for a long time, despite your parents' distaste. They even decided to set you up on a date with Steve Harrington your senior year: a sad attempt to separate you and Eddie.
It only lasted a week or two, and when you explained the situation to Steve, he understood. He was kind and promised to never let your parents know you even broke up.
“I could tell,” Steve said on your last date, “your head is always somewhere else. No sweat.”
To your parents, you are back to their perfect daughter. But everyday after school, when your parents think you're at a study hall, you're in the little room with a group of ‘freaks’, Eddie wearing the crown.
***
Eddie displayed the table in front of him, with only two characters left standing- yourself and Vecna.
“There is nothing wrong with running, sweetheart." Eddie's tone is cocky, "You can walk away now, everything will be okay.”
You squint up at him, “when have you ever known me to run?”
Eddie just laughs, signature smirk on his lips, “then roll.”
You grab the twenty sided die, fondling it in your hand. You roll the die between your fingers, a focused look on your face.
“C'mon! Just walk away,” Mike whispered, “if you roll then you can lose. Walking away isn’t a loss.”
“Shut up, Freshy,” you smile and elbow him in the side, “you’ve only been with me through one campaign. I never run away.”
You bring the die up to your lips and blow on it, keeping eye contact with Eddie through the process. He keeps his signature smirk on his face, but his eyes are nervous.
With a final smile, the die leaves your hand, rolling across the table, clambering it’s way down.
When it stops, Eddie looks down with a smile on his face, “natural twenty, sweetheart," he looks back up to you, "that's a hit."
The group at the table erupted into cheers, Dustin laughing at Eddie while pointing aggressively.
“Well done, Princess.” Eddie smiles and sits back in his throne.
**
After all the boys clear out, it’s just you and Eddie in the Hellfire room. Eddie let his smile falter as soon as they were gone; you knew he hated to lose a campaign, but it was always a little easier on him when you were the last man standing.
You walk towards him and stand in between his spread knees, “hi,” you look down at his slumped body, “hell of a campaign, you know. I was convinced I wasn’t going to roll right, you know my luck.”
Eddie looks at you shyly, “I know, Sweetheart. But I was really expecting a loss from you guys.”
“You always are, Eds.”
He smiles and sits up a little bit, “you’re right,” then he shifts himself to lean closer to you, “how’s Harrington?”
You step back from him with a small smile, “Done. He couldn’t handle me.”
Eddie sits up all the way, smirking, “no one can, Princess,” his hands lift to rest on your hips, “except me, my Queen of Hellfire.”
You laugh, “it was my call, though. He wasn’t my guy.”
“How so?”
You step back up into him looking down at him, “he’s not tall enough, he doesn’t have enough tattoos,” Eddie begins to stand up to tower over you, “he doesn’t smoke, and, most of all,” you move your hand to his hair, his face inches away from yours, “he doesn’t have good enough curly hair.”
Eddies breath hitches in his throat, clearly nervous and excited, and, when you almost gave in, your parent’s voice came into your head.
You back up from him reluctantly “It was a great campaign, Eds.”
And you walked out of the room listening for Eddie to call for you, but he never did.
**
Two days later, your parents were at church while you stayed home. Around 10 o'clock that morning, you heard a knock on the door. You quickly pulled your hair back and went to the front door. When you opened it, you were shocked to see Eddie standing in front of you, hair disheveled, still in his flannel pajama bottoms and a crinkled white shirt, smelling of weed and a his woody cologne.
He looked down at you as if you were a stranger before speaking, “why did you do that?”
“Eddie, why did I do what?”
“Friday. After Hellfire. Why did you do that?” He reached his hand up to rest on your cheek, “did you not know what you do to me?”
You stutter out an apology, “Eds, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it would upset you-“
“Upset me?” Eddie laughed, “Sweetheart, I need to know if it was a play. Did you mean what you said?”
You look into his chocolate eyes before finally giving in, lean into his warm touch, “yes, Eddie, god, yes, I meant every word.”
And then he kissed you.
The kiss was bruising, and the entire time you couldn’t stop thinking about how bad you needed to know how he tasted, and now you knew: a beautiful mix of mint and herb.
As you pulled away panting, he rested his forehead against yours.
“My parents will kill me if they see you here,” you tell him quietly through kisses.
He picked you up bridal style, kissing your forehead and whispering “I won’t let them,” while he carries you upstairs to your room.
You planted gentle kisses to his neck until he dropped you onto your bed, leaning over you and kissing you roughly. As he kissed you, his hands found their way to your hips and yours around his neck.
“Fuck, Princess, I’ve waited for this for too damn long,” Eddie whispered into your neck where he was sucking and biting, attacking the soft skin connecting your neck and shoulder.
You started to tug on his hair, “Eds,” and he pulled up and looked at you, “you are my perfect person.”
He smiled softly and kissed your lips, hands finding your pajama shorts and slipping his pinkie underneath the band, touching more of your bare hips. Your back arched up into his grip as his rings chilled your skin, and he smirked into your kiss.
“Eddie, please,” you whine to him.
“Please what, sweetheart?”
“Anything, Eddie, please.”
Eddie looks up at you before his hands fully grip your waistband, “are you sure?”
You lift your hips, begging, “yes, Eddie, god yes, please.”
He smirked, pulling down your sleep shorts, “easy, Tiger.”
As soon as your shorts are down your legs, you are pulling off the lace thong that conceals you from him.
When he notices this, he’s sliding down to the foot of your bed, grabbing your ankles and pulling you down with him. He makes easy work of spreading your thighs, smiling as he sees your already wet pussy.
“Damn, Sweetheart, is all of this for me?” He mumbles as he moves his hand up to spread your lips, getting a better view.
You whine at the contact, “yes Eddie, all for you.”
Eddie starts to plant open mouthed kisses on the inside of your thighs while he slowly slides one of his ringed fingers inside of you, watching you wiggle at the sensitive contact. He starts to suck deep purple bruises onto your thighs as he inserts another finger, quickly curling and scissoring them, smiling as you moan loudly at his doing, your hands finding their way to his hair.
“Eddie, god, babe, your mouth, please,” you whine loudly, causing him to bite down on your thigh.
“You want my mouth, darling? Want my tongue?” You whimper in response, “Words, baby.”
You huff loudly, “yes, Eds, I need your mouth on me.”
He licked a thick stripe up your opening to your clit, moaning at the taste. He took your clit it into his mouth and started sucking lightly, causing you to see stars.
He continued to eat you out like his life depends on it, his fingers finding their way back inside of you, working you closer and closer to your orgasm.
He adds one more finger, stretching you out so fully arounds his three large digits, and licking and sucking so feverishly you don’t know how much longer you can last.
“Eddie, baby, fuck-“ you moan, grinding on his tongue, “I’m going to cum. Fuck, can I come? Should I even be asking you?”
Eddie laughs at you rambling, sending a vibration through your pussy up to the knot in your stomach.
He keeps working you until your thighs are shaking and trying to close around his head. He works you into a mewling mess, and only then does he pull away just enough to say, “come on my tongue, princess.”
His lips reconnect with you, working you through your high, your moans loud until you finally come to a stop.
Eddie climbs up your body, kissing you feverishly, and you taste yourself on his tongue.
“Baby, you’re so sweet. Could eat you out forever.”
You smile and kiss him, sitting up, “your turn.”
He stands up, and you sink to your knees in front of him. He watches happily as you work his pants off of him, your eyes growing at the print of him in his boxers. He was long and thick, and had a glorious spot of pre-cum on the fabric. You connect your lips to the wet spot, moaning at the salty flavor.
“Sweetheart,” Eddie placed a hand on your cheek pulling you away from him, “we can stop at any time. You don’t have to do this.”
You smile up at him from your knees, “I want to. Stop worrying.”
He looks down at you lovingly, swiping your cheek with his thumb, “then, as much as I love how it looks on you, that hellfire shirt’s got to go.”
You raise your arms as he pulls it off of you, groaning at the sight of your braless chest.
You quickly pull down his boxers, admiring the beautiful cock in front of you. It’s thick and even longer than it looked when concealed. It has a vein running along the side of it, and his tip is a pretty pink color with a bead of pre-cum leaking out of his slit.
You lean in and place a quick kiss to his tip before taking it into your mouth, sucking softly on his cock, then quickly pulling off.
“Of course your cock would be pretty too,” you smile before licking a stripe underneath him, then taking him into your mouth until he hits the back of your throat.
He moans loudly, his hands gripping your hair as you settle on a tempo, occasionally popping off to breathe or spit onto his dick.
“Sweetheart, holy hell,” Eddie moans as you look up at him as innocently as you can with a mouth stuffed with his cock, “I can’t tell if you came from, fuck, heaven or hell with that mouth. I could have had this this entire time?”
You hum around him in agreement, causing him to moan again.
After a little while of constant sucking, a sore jaw, and hands gripping his thighs, he stills your head and begins fucking your face.
You gag around him at the intrusion, then you settle into the pace, meeting him half way.
“Fuck, darling, I won’t last. Sweetheart, god fuck-“ he pulls away from me before he’s able to finish.
“Why’d you-“
He smiles, “ I want to cum inside you for our first time,” he rushes over to his pants and feels the pocket, “shit. I left my wallet at home, do you have condoms?”
You shake your head quietly.
He sighs, “it’s okay, I’ll just-“
“I'm on the pill.”
He smiles, “you sure?” And you nod.
As he climbs on top of you, with a panicked look, he starts, “you promise this isn’t some weird way of getting child support out of me? ‘Cause selling weed doesn’t exactly pay the-“
You laugh loudly, “Hey, Eddie?”
“Hey, baby?”
You look at him with doe eyes, “wanna fuck me?”
He groans loudly, “God, I thought you’d never ask.”
He climbed on top of you, spreading your legs apart and lining his dick up with your slick hole, “you ready, sweetheart?”
You smile softly, “yes, please.”
As soon as you feel the tip of him slip inside of you, a loud moan leaves your lips, your eyes widening and your hands gripping Eddies back.
He rests his head on your shoulder, leaving soft kisses on your neck, “I know baby, I know. Tell me if it’s too much.”
He slowly pushes in further until he’s all the way inside of you, then he stills to allow you to adjust to his size.
His teeth sink into the skin of your neck as he grunts, "you're so tight, Baby."
You whimper at the praise, “God, Eddie, move, please god, fuck me.”
He didn't need any more convincing. His hips suddenly snap in and out of you with fever. The sound of skin hitting skin and your moans mixing together fills your small room.
Eddie bites and sucks on your chest, moaning at the sensation, “fuck, princess, 's like you were made for me. Can’t wait to ruin this sweet pussy of yours.”
As Eddie keeps talking, fucking you harder and faster, your head is spinning with ecstasy, moans slipping out of your mouth faster than you can stop them, until, quickly, Eddie pushes one of your knees to your chest, pushing himself even deeper inside of you.
“Fuck, Eds. Right there, baby! Shit!”
Eddie moves one of his hands to your throat, pounding into you rapidly, showing no mercy to your body.
“Eds, fuck! I’m gunna cum, can I please fucking cum?” Your moans echo around the small room.
Eddie holds onto you tightly, his thrusts becoming sloppy and irregular, “hang on, sweetheart, I’m almost there,” he thrusts quickly, “where do you want it?”
You drag your nails down his back, “inside me.”
“Are you sure?”
You moan, “yes! Eddie, please! Fill me up with your cum, please!”
He groans and thrusted once or twice more, “cum, baby, cum with me.”
The knot that built in your stomach untied as you felt hot spurts of cum filling you up. You let out loud whimpers of ecstasy while Eddie rocked you through it, whispering sweet praises into your ear.
As you finished, he rolled off of you, laying next to you on your bed.
“Wow.”
You giggle in agreement, “definitely wow.”
Suddenly, the front door slams open, “honey, we’re home!”
Your mom shouts through the house, causing you and Eddie to scramble getting dressed.
Your mom walked in just as you both got clothed, sitting on the bed with a magazine and him messing with his guitar pick necklace.
“Hi,” you say gently, as if Eddies cum wasn’t leaking out of you onto your light pink bed spread beneath you.
“Honey," her tone is sickly sweet, "what is he doing here?” She smiled tightly.
“Oh, him?” You point to Eddie, “we’re just hanging out. He is my boyfriend you know.”
Eddie looks at you shocked before a smirk settles on his kiss swollen lips, and he reaches out to hold your hand.
Your mom looks at you, her smile now a glare.
“You can either leave this man, or never see the light of day again.”
Eddie stood up and grabbed his shoes, preparing to leave. His lips sat in a frown.
He thought this was over.
“Hey babe?” You grab his arm.
“Huh?” He looked at you confused.
You give him a quick kiss and your mom gasps, “I’ll see you at sunset.”

Part two of this au with actor Steve walking rockstar Eddie on stage, based on the reply from @ghostyneth "Imagine them having a moment like Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds”
It's been a month and the press is still eating up that moment when they walked arm in arm on stage together. Both Steve and Eddie's management think it's good for them to play it up, hang out publicly and be seen as friends, but they genuinely are friends now.
They've hung out a few times since the Grammys. Eddie invited Steve to his show at the Garden and they spent a lot of time backstage, just talking. Their music taste converges at a point. Also, Eddie was a theater kid, of course, the theatrical bastard. The weird gritty roles Steve takes sometimes outside his big box office hits have led him down some rabbit holes. So he likes freaky niche movies that only someone like Eddie would've ever heard of. They never run out of things to talk about.
Steve took Eddie to his movie premiere. They ditched the after party and the press to cruise around with the top down on Steve's old convertible, Eddie standing up blasting Metallica and headbanging along. They tease each other, call each other rockstar and movie star but not in that shallow way that Steve hates. Eddie's just himself, a wildcard, and Steve loves it.
So, when the Golden Globes come around and Steve's nominated, of course he wants Eddie there.
He wasn't expecting to win so when his name is announced, the table erupts into congratulations and he kisses Robin on the cheek first, then goes all around kissing and hugging his friends. Then the circle comes to Eddie, so naturally, they both laugh and throw their arms open, then grab each other’s faces and lean into a big smacking kiss.
The audience is cheering and laughing like crazy, and it was mostly a joke, but the way Eddie strokes his cheek when they pull back and says, "Congratulations, movie star” feels like it was just for Steve, not for any of the cameras or the crowd watching them. Steve can't stop looking at Eddie during his acceptance speech.

So, at work this little girls' soccer team has been bagging people's groceries in groups of two. They're at max 7yo but they look younger. And most of them have at least one parent standing back by customer service just keeping an eye on them. The parents are obviously just gossiping and talking between themselves for entertained. But there was one dad who was with his daughter because it was an uneven number of girls. He's chatting with customers and the cashier and treating his daughter like a princess. And at the end of their time bagging, he just carries her and talks so softly. Like the love was pouring from him, it was so wholesome.
Now make it Steddie...
Imagine girl dad Eddie who'd rather help bag groceries than gossip with the group of moms. So, he chats with everyone else because the cashier looks exhausted, and he thinks he can give the other man a small break from all the conversations. But to his surprise the cashier doesn't take the break. He chats with Eddie and his daughter easily between customers.
And Eddie's little girl is having a blast which is a blessing. Because he can see some of the girls looking bored and he's extremely happy she's not throwing a hissy fit like Carol's youngest. No, his girl is asking all the customers random questions that aren't too invasive. Until she asks the cashier, Steve, if he's seeing someone cause he's really pretty. The customer laughs as Steve goes soft for Eddie's little girl. And he handles her like someone made to be a dad.
When their time is up for their little fundraiser, Eddie picks up his girl who curls into him, playing with his hair. Steve's shoulders slump and Eddie can't help but smile at the man. "I'm not, just so you know," Steve says and it's another small break from his customers.
Eddie raises an eyebrow, "not what?"
Steve's ears are a little pink, "seeing anyone."
It throws Eddie for a loop and he glances at his girl before looking at Steve again, "me neither."
Steve perks up so quickly Eddie has to smother a laugh. "do you want to? See someone, I mean."
Eddie's mouth ticks up into a smirk. But he doesn't get a moment to speak, "Daddy, aren't you seeing Steve right now? He's right in front of you!" His daughter looks charmingly worried for him so Eddie makes a show of gasping and twirling around.
"oh no! I'm blind! Mel I'm blind what do I do!" He almost shouts as his daughter starts to freak out. "Oh cashier Steve where'd you go?" He stops his spin to lock eyes with Steve and he winks.
Steve's laughter makes his eyes crinkle and Eddie thinks he's adorable. "Oh! There he is," he says and his daughter sighs like it's the most revealing thing he could've said. "Say Steve, would you perhaps wanna see each other again soon?"
Steve nods and glances at the woman now placing food on the belt. Eddie moves over and writes down his number quickly before bowing out with a grin.

@steddie-week, day 3: discover.
When Steve is five years old, his mom catches him sneaking cookies before dinner.
The jar is set up on top of the refrigerator, porcelain white in the shape of a teddy bear, and Steve isn’t supposed to be able to reach it. Unfortunately for the Harrington’s, their son is athletic and agile even as a child so of course, he discovers that if he slides a chair over to the counter, he can climb onto the beige laminate and reach the jar on his tippy toes. The head of the bear is removed easily, a cookie (or two) are snatched, and no one is the wiser. His devious heist comes to a halt one night after tee-ball practice when he thinks that his mom is in the shower. Steve ends up being caught with his hand literally in the cookie jar.
It’s a story his mom tells at dinner parties and family gatherings throughout his childhood, over and over with the same details. Steve hears it enough to visualize what his face must’ve looked like— wide eyes, mouth ajar, eyebrows nearly touching his hairline, cheeks and ears turning pink.
A few months into (finally) dating Eddie Munson, Steve finds his boyfriend standing in the living room mere feet from where Steve had tried to steal those cookies years ago wearing what he imagines is the exact same expression.
There’s no teddy bear-shaped cookie jar, but Eddie certainly looks caught: caught in a moment of jock euphoria, that is.
When Steve gets home from his trip to Chicago with Robin a day early, he decides to surprise Eddie rather than call ahead and it may be the best decision he’s made in quite some time because Steve recognizes this sight intimately.
Eddie’s in the middle of the room, bobbing around in front of the television with his hands threading through his hair and tugging in frustration as he yells things like:
“Are your blades dipped in fucking butter?”  “The puck goes in the net!”  "You can't shoot for shit, just like you can't grow a decent mustache, huh?" “Your job is to use your big ass body to stop the teensy tiny puck from getting around you and that’s a Hell of a lot easier if you stay in the fucking crease!”
He stands in the doorway in shocked silence, watching in bemused wonder. Even in his crouched position, even as he scuttles from side to side with a phantom hockey stick in his hands with the only light in the room coming from the television screen, he's beautiful.
How long has this been going on though? In the years of friendship that eventually led to their relationship, Steve’s never known Eddie to give a single shit about any sort of organized sport that didn’t involve Steve specifically running around in what Eddie calls his "utterly obscene shorts."
Hockey’s never been mentioned, not once, but Eddie knows too much to have randomly picked it up in just the two days Steve’s been gone. A ripple of something that feels like guilt washes over him, unsure of what he’s done to make Eddie feel like he needs to hide this from him.
Long moments pass and Steve continues to go unnoticed when the game rolls into overtime.
“I can’t take much more of this, Jesus H. Christ.” Eddie moans, his hands falling to his knees as he hunches over.
Commentators flash up on the screen and Steve supposes intermission is as good a time as any to interject.
“Would some company help?”
Eddie whips to the right and there it is: wide eyes, mouth ajar, raised eyebrows, flaring nostrils, and the tell-tale darkening of Eddie’s cheeks. Steve only assumes his ears follow suit— they usually do when he’s flustered but Eddie’s hair blocks the view. His hand flies to his chest, startled on top of it all.
The Bruins are going into overtime and his deepest, darkest secret was just unceremoniously discovered.
It’s been a rough day.
Steve just smiles and crosses the threshold into the room, standing next to his boyfriend who looks like all of the air has been vacuumed from his lungs.
“You— you weren’t supposed to be home yet! You scared the shit of me, man!”
“I was trying to surprise you but uh, joke’s on me I guess. Hockey, huh?” Steve gestures at the television with his chin. “Makes sense. It’s fuckin' lawless.”
Eddie’s features settle into something less abashed and more defensive, his eyebrows knitting together and his head tilting to one side just a hair.
“What makes sense? There was just nothing else on. It’s not a crime to flip through the channels, Steve.”
His lies are weak, and even under the best circumstances, the bar for Eddie’s ability to lie is on the floor so that's saying a lot.
“It’s not, no. If it was, you’d probably be doing it,” he teases, nudging their shoulders together. “Besides, you wouldn’t know what the fuck a crease is if you were just casually flipping through.”
“Wait, wait, shit. How long were you standing there?”
“Long enough to find out you’ve been holding out on me, Munson.” Steve twists to face Eddie, pointing at the television. “We could’ve been going to games, screaming insults, calling plays together this whole time!”
Eddie groans, titling his head back to look at the ceiling. It’s been a long, long couple of days because even now, Steve can’t stop from staring at the expanse of Eddie’s throat, knowing exactly which spots make him groan for entirely different reasons.
“Okay, fine. You caught me,” Eddie admits, still staring at the ceiling but turning his body away from Steve and waving his arms in defeat. “I’m a fraud. A hypocrite. I enjoy a sport. You cannot imagine how much it pains me to say this out loud.”
“Ah, so we’re doing the dramatic thing about this?” Steve mutters, shaking his head. “Eddie, you’re allowed to like things. You know that, right? You liking a sport doesn’t, I don’t know, make you any less metal or whatever. Least I don’t think so.”
Eddie drops his arms and spins around. “Steve, Stevie, my dear sweet sunshine, I’m not sure if you remember this but I’ve made quite a name and reputation for myself in abject hatred of mainstream… everything. My credibility is destroyed.”
Steve barely chokes back his laughter. Eddie’s sounding and acting more like his Eddie, something equally as endearing as it is ridiculous. He reaches out and pulls Eddie to sit next to him on the couch, not missing the way Eddie glances at the screen to make sure he’s not missing the start of overtime.
“You know,” Steve starts before making air quotes, “a wise brat once told me that when you finish high school, it’s time to move on from primitive concepts like popularity. Or something like that, it was a while ago. Point is, what you staked your claim to in high school doesn’t apply here. You can be weird, and loud, and anti-mainstream, and like hockey. It’s the most violent of popular sports anyways.”
Eddie blinks at him once, then twice, before narrowing his eyes and drawing his lips into a tight smile. “Was the wise brat Henderson? That sounds like Henderson.”
Steve laughs and leans back against the couch. “Sure was. Don’t tell him I quoted him, he’ll never shut the fuck up about it.”
“What brought on a lecture about primitive high school concepts from Dustin Henderson?”
“He was trying to convince me to date Robin when we were spying on what turned out to be evil Russians at Starcourt who had a lab under the mall. It was a whole thing.” Steve shrugs nonchalantly.
Eddie nods slowly. “Right, yeah, the mall that exploded?”
“Yep. Same one.”
“Y’know, I should’ve known you had something to do with that.” Eddie smiles at him, wide and bright, and it’s a strange moment for Steve to realize he’s in love.
He’s wholly, unconditionally, disgustingly in love with Eddie Munson, with every side and facet, with every sparkling edge of the multifaceted prism of him. Steve’s entire body sighs with relief as his heart finally, finally catches up with the rest of him.
But there’s an overtime period about to start, and unlike this playoff game, Steve knows he has all the time he could ever need to tell him, show him, exactly how he feels. He starts by cheering for a team he knows shit about, and then by rubbing Eddie’s back when he curls over onto his knees after the Devils score the winning shot.
“Hate to break it to ya, Ed, this is very jock behavior. Think there might be a little jock in you after all.” He jokes, running his hand from the middle of Eddie’s back to the nape of his neck, circling his thumb gently into the flesh there.
“No the fuck there isn’t,” he mumbles, sitting up straight and turning devilish smile on Steve. “But I’d like there to be.”
a very, very happy birthday to @hexiewrites! you know that I couldn't let your birthday pass without writing Eddie as a Bruins fan. and I peppered in some of our and @maxineholtzmann's comments and insults from the playoffs liveblogging on discord. <3 hope you have a phenomenal day!!

thinking thoughts about avoidant attachment steve (because try and tell me he isn't, with THOSE parents? get out) getting scared when he realizes he's in love with eddie because being in love is scary and hasn't gone well for him in the past. he's always been the one who loves harder, he's always been the one who puts others first, and never had someone do the same for him. now that he and eddie feel like they're on equal footing, he's fucking terrified of having that ripped out from under him. so, subconsciously he starts pulling away because when he's gonna get hurt he might as well be prepared for it, try and at least put up some walls so that when eddie breaks his heart he won't just be standing there obviously crushed like, y'know, the last time.
cut to eddie thinking he's done something terribly wrong because his previously sweet and warm and cuddly bordering on clingy steve is suddenly being so quiet and so distant, not really initiating any of the touches he usually does. he's not pulling away but he's definitely not doing that (annoying, but insufferably adorable) thing where he pointedly removes eddie's guitar from his lap to sit there himself and demand attention anymore. and yeah, eddie would always roll his eyes and sigh loudly at first, but he loves giving steve his undivided attention. he misses those moments already and it's only been like this for a week.
so, he confronts him about it. he tries to do so carefully, because he doesn't know what he did wrong and he thinks maybe it should be obvious or whatever. he's preparing for an, "are you serious, i really have to tell you?" but maybe he's a bit too vague about it because steve just looks like a deer caught in headlights for a second before his face goes cold, blank.
and steve's thinking this is it, this is eddie about to rip off the bandaid, and he's obviously trying to go about it gently and there's a tilt to his eyebrows that says he feels bad about it, so steve might as well just go and do it for him, y'know? says it's fine, he'll leave if eddie wants him to, and he's got his hand on the doorknob before eddie can say anything. completely misses the confused look on his face.
and eddie has to just about chase him out the door before he can reach his car because steve doesn't seem to be hearing when he's calling after him that what the fuck, no he doesn't want steve to leave, he's in– but he stops himself from saying that, because something is clearly upsetting steve and it's got to be his fault and now's not the fucking time. but he does manage to get his hand on the window of steve's car door before he can get in, hold it closed so that steve will finally look at him. so he can ask steve to please talk to him.
and you can imagine eddie's confusion and then shock when steve just starts mumbling (actually mumbling which is so out of place for him because he hates when others mumble to him, because he can't fucking hear) and he keeps cutting himself off mid-sentence and starting over and he won't look at eddie at all and this is all so out of character for steve, until eddie finally manages to piece together some of the abandoned sentence fragments into something that's starting to sound a lot like steve thinking eddie's going to get sick of him sooner or later, or sick of his bullshit (the look steve gets on his face on this word suggests there is more under the surface here, but again now is not the time) so eddie should just get it over with and that it's okay. but steve isn't looking like he actually thinks it's okay, in fact he's looking like he's trying so hard not to cry.
so, speechless for maybe the first time in his life, eddie just pulls steve into the tightest hug he can. hugs him until he stops his rambling, keeps hugging him until he feels steve's arms wrap loosely around his waist. only when he finds the words again does he pull back, doesn't even let go really, just moves one of his hands to steve's chin, makes him look at him.
"i'm not going to get tired of you, steve," he says, "i love you. i'm in love with you."
but steve doesn't look relieved or happy to hear it, not at first. no, he looks like he doesn't believe it, which is confirmed when he says, "don't say it if you don't mean it. i can't- i can't do that again."
and doesn't that just break eddie's heart into a bunch of little pieces, because here's possibly the best, most caring, bravest person he's ever met and yeah, maybe he acts a little bitchy sometimes but he's got a heart full of love for those around him. here he is, seeming utterly convinced that he's not going to receive that love in return. seeming like he's been shown time and time again he's never going to receive in return the level of love he puts out.
eddie's determined to show him otherwise, though, and he starts by repeating himself; in between soft, slow kisses at first (thankfully it's night time, and no nosy neighbors in sight) but the kisses get lighter and start to travel all over steve's face and by the time eddie's kissing the little space between his eyebrows, steve's smiling, he's actually kind of laughing. it's a nervous, i'm-not-convinced-this-is-real laugh, but it's there and eddie wants to hear more of that laugh and less of the sad, defeated mumbling he was doing earlier so he brings steve back inside where it's warm and he takes his time pressing kisses all over steve and telling him every single reason he loves him. he knows off the top of his head because he actually made a list of them all, he was trying to write a song about it, was planning on dropping the big L word with a grandiose gesture of flowers and candles and his acoustic guitar before steve started pulling away from him. oh well, he thinks he has some candles stashed away somewhere anyway.

Mermaid/Pirate Steddie Five
One | Two | Three | Four
*slaps top of the fic* this bad boi has everything: mermaids, fluff, reunions, Eddie being a simp, protective mom Steve
Anyway, stick around to the very very end for a meme hot off the presses about this part lmao
as always, if you see any typos, no you didn't ;P
----
It takes Robin and the guppies three days to reach the ship Erica mentioned. They're all irritable, and the only thing that keeps them from snapping at each other is the idea that Steve might be hurt or in danger. Robin thinks they might have torn each other apart otherwise, and she can't even say for sure that she would have stopped the guppies from engaging in a full-on brawl.
So, to say she's beyond relieved when they finally catch up to the ship is an understatement.
But now they need to plan. The ship is way too close to a port city; close enough that any of the pirates could survive long enough to swim that way and spread the story of a murderous pod. Which, honestly, wouldn't do much for keeping all mermaids safe and on good enough terms with humanity that regular humans don't hunt them for sport. It does nothing to stop the pirates, but still.
"We could just make sure to drown everyone," Max suggests, watching the bottom of the ship with narrowed eyes.
Robin almost agrees, but then she stops. Because she knows Steve. If even one person on that ship wasn't an asshole to him, he'd say to spare them, and that could result in the aforementioned spreading of murderous pod stories. But after he's been trapped for so long, Robin wouldn't be able to argue with any request. She's already imagined him dead and strung up like a trophy more than she'd like to admit. She couldn't stand to see him frown after that.
So, she shakes her head, a frustrated bubble pattern flaring from her gills. "We need to be smarter about this," she says.
"We didn't strategize before sinking the other one," Will points out.
"That one kidnapped him. This one might have rescued him, and we should show mercy if that is the case," El says, stretched out and floating on her back. She's the most relaxed of them, and Robin wonders if it's because of that sixth sense she's got going.
"El is right," Robin says, crossing her arms and studying the ship. "We should be more careful about this."
"We could try signaling him," Dustin suggests. "Like, uh, dolphin noises or something."
"If we do that," Lucas says, "we'll need to give him enough time to respond without anyone around."
Robin nods, agreeing with both of them. "Okay, here's what we're gonna do. I'll swim closer while you guys stay here. We have that dumb screech system Steve made us memorize, so I'll use that to signal him. Then we'll wait until the sun rises tomorrow. That should be enough time for him to respond. If he doesn't, we'll sink the ship," she says.
"What if he's not on it?" Mike asks.
"We'll keep one human alive for questioning," Will says, looking at Robin and flashing a tiny, relieved smile when she nods in agreement. "We'll probably have to drown them either way, though."
"Well, we don't need to tell them that," Erica says, snorting as she reaches out to pet a fish that swims by. It's tiny enough to weave through her fingers twice before swimming on.
"Yeah, definitely won't be telling them," Robin agrees, trying and mostly failing to hold back an amused smile. "Okay, stay here. I'll be back after a few minutes. While I'm gone, Erica is in charge."
A chorus of protests chases after Robin as she swims away, heading toward the surface. The sun shines brighter the closer she gets, and she winces when her head finally breaks through the water. It reflects off the ocean, sparkling and blinding as the water shifts and flows.
Robin huffs and sinks down until only her eyes are above the water. The ship is a few yards away, and she can't see anyone moving around on the deck from this distance. She slowly moves closer, her ear fins straining as she tries to listen for any sign of life. Or Steve. Actually, she'd love to hear any sign of Steve from the ship.
Unfortunately, she doesn't.
Once she's close enough to touch the ship, hiding in the shadow it casts over the water, she circles it once. There are a few windows along the hull, but none of them are actually open. That could make it harder for Steve to hear her, but Robin will just be extra loud to compensate.
Robin clears her throat, rolls her shoulders, flicks her tail, and rises until her chin is above the water. She then lets out a sound that can only be classified as the dying shrieks of a dolphin and seagull's abomination of a love child. She makes this noise twice, but each one lasts a few seconds.
Robin can't risk any of the humans seeing her when they investigate the noise. If they are holding Steve captive, they might hurt him even more if they know another mermaid is around. So, she dips below the water, completely submerging and waiting anxiously for a response.
----
Steve has discovered the wonders of just sprawling on a solid surface, his arms thrown to the side and his tail stretched out as he stares up at the ceiling. It's oddly calming, and Steve can almost trick himself into thinking the bobbing of the ship is the ocean itself.
That's what Steve is doing now, forcing himself to relax and brace himself for telling Eddie that he has to leave for a while to find Robin and the guppies. His eyes are closed, and he's running through every possible outcome of that conversation. The second best case scenario (Eddie decides to come with him in a tiny boat) is playing out when he hears it.
The Emergency Shriek.
The last time he'd heard it, Dustin was desperately crying out for help as he struggled against the net that dragged him to the surface. Steve's reaction then had been the exact same as his reaction now. He jolts, his eyes wide and all of his fins flaring in preparation for the fastest swimming of his life, and his lips are pulled back in a vicious snarl to display his fangs and scare off the threat.
But he's on a boat, in the captain's cabin, and that window is way too small for him to climb through. Steve doesn't really think (he can't, actually; his brain has officially gone into Guppies and Robin In Danger Mode). He drags himself to the door of the cabin, digs his fingers into the space beneath, and uses all his strength to rip it off.
The wood groans and the hinges shriek and then the bottom half of the door comes off in his hands. Steve tosses it to the side and crawls through, his tail twitching and flopping in a vain attempt to move faster. If anyone were to actually witness this, they'd probably find it somewhere between utterly terrifying and unfortunately hilarious. A giant fish is dragging and flopping along the floor, but it's also exuding the most intense aura of bloodlust most creatures have ever encountered.
And that bloodlust only gets worse when Steve comes to the stairs that lead to the deck. He stares at them, anger building in his chest at the obstacle they present and just how long it will take to climb them. By the time he reaches the top, Robin and the guppies could be dead, and Steve will have wasted time by uselessly trying to climb some stupid stairs.
He grits his teeth, claws digging into the wood beneath him. And then Steve suddenly realizes that he doesn't have to climb the stairs himself. He takes a deep breath, his gills flaring some to pull in more air, and screams as loud as he can, "EDDIE!"
Steve is absolutely going to reward Eddie for his speed (later, after his guppies and Robin are safe) because he immediately hears something crash above him, followed by swearing and frantic footsteps that stop at the stairs. "Stevie, what the fuck?" Eddie asks, panting as he hurries down the stairs.
"On the deck," Steve says, pushing up onto his tail and wrapping his arms around Eddie's neck when he starts leaning down. "Right now, Eddie. Actually, two minutes ago. As fast as you can. And to the edge of the ship. The railing. Now!"
Eddie, his wonderful and incredible Eddie, doesn't question him. He just scoops Steve up and carries him back up the stairs, fingers digging into Steve's waist when he nearly trips over the final step. He finds his balance again, barely, and strides over to the railing.
Steve can't see anything wrong with the water, but he knows the surface doesn't actually tell him anything useful. He frowns and looks at Eddie. "I'll be back," he promises before letting go of Eddie's neck and twisting to place his hands on the rail.
In one swift motion, he launches himself over the side, grimacing when he feels the edge of his tail fin smack Eddie's cheek along the way. But Steve doesn't let himself linger and focuses on the rush of water around him as he dives below the surface. His gills flare and he breathes for the first time in a while, his hair and body familiarly weightless, and Steve fully realizes how much he fucking missed being in the ocean.
But he can't linger on that relief and joy either.
Steve shoots through the water, swimming to wear he thinks the Emergency Shriek came from, only to be tackled as he rounds the edge of the ship. He yelps, his breath knocked out of him as he goes careening, arms wrapping around his waist like he's going to disappear. It takes exactly one second for him to recognize Robin, her hair floating in front of his eyes and her claws digging into his back.
"You're okay!" she shouts as their momentum starts to falter.
Steve wraps his arms around her and holds her close, one hand on the back of her head and the other around her waist. "Where's the danger?" he asks, scanning the water around them and frowning when he sees nothing.
Robin laughs and pulls away, grinning at him with relief clear in her eyes. "There isn't any, dingus. I was trying to see if you were on that ship," she explains.
Before she can say anything else or Steve can respond, several bodies crash into him from behind. "STEVE!"
They all go careening through the water again, and Steve can't help laughing this time. He tries to hug as many of the guppies as he can, running his fingers through their hair and over their shoulders to reassure himself and them that they're together again. They don't let up, though, and Steve is getting pulled deeper and deeper as they pile on top of him, each trying to get closer as Robin wraps her arms around his neck and buries her face in his nape.
"Okay, okay!" Steve says, a stupidly happy grin on his face, "I'm fine, I promise. I'm not hurt."
"But you were!" Will shouts, managing to push forward long enough for Steve to see the red in his eyes from crying. "We saw your scales in the other ship."
"I healed," Steve promises, gesturing at his tail. This gets the guppies to back off long enough to inspect his tail, all seven of them circling around and inspecting for new injuries.
"What's this?" Erica asks, pointing at the new scar.
"That's the wound that healed."
"I'm so glad you're okay," El says, finishing her inspection first and grabbing Steve's hand.
"Yeah, now we can wreck that ship!" Max says, her eyes lighting up with a vicious glee as she looks at the Corroded Coffin in the distance.
Steve blinks. "Wait, what?"
"This has been healed for a while, Steve," Max explains, gesturing to his tail, "So, they must have been keeping you captive, right? Let's sink them."
"I bet they've got some great treasure on there," Dustin says, lingering closer to Steve's shoulder even as he looks at the ship, studying it with the same face he studies squids he wants to try trapping.
And, yeah, Dustin would be right. There is some great treasure in the Corroded Coffin. Steve's treasure. Eddie. "We are not sinking the ship," he says, his voice firm. It's his official Caretaker Voice, and it makes all the guppies stiffen slightly as they look at him. "The...humans there saved me."
A few seconds pass, and then Robin behind him gasps. "You fell in love!" she shouts, using Steve's shoulders to brace herself as she pushes up and leans over his head. "With a human!"
"Wh-how could you tell?!" Steve asks, looking up at her as the guppies start clamoring for his attention as well.
"Was it the captain?" Will asks, eyes a little brighter but also warier.
"Is he ugly?" Mike asks, his tone implying that he already believes the answer to be yes.
"Dude, how could you fall for a human?!" Dustin shouts, his nose wrinkled up in slight disgust.
"Have you been courting a human the whole time we've been looking for you?" Erica asks, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yeah! How long have you been healed, then?" Max adds, moving next to Erica and glaring at Steve.
"Wait, so we're not sinking the ship?" Lucas asks, failing to cover his disappointment as he gazes at the ship longingly.
"Congratulations, Steve. I'm sure he's very nice," El says, smiling at him, and Steve almost cries at her simple and accepting response.
"I want to meet him," Robin says.
And her words get the rest of the guppies to quiet down. They all share a few looks and then nod at Steve in sync. "Yeah, we need to meet him," Dustin says, apparently the spokesperson for the group.
Steve blinks, looking at the guppies and Robin. He wanted Eddie to meet his guppies and Robin, of course, but he's a little worried about what they'll do to Eddie. "Only if you promise not to drown him," he says, shooting each of them a hard look.
"I'm insulted you think we would," Robin says, scoffing as she swims to the guppies, facing Steve. "Now, go get your soft and very drownable human down here."
Steve rolls his eyes and motions for the guppies and Robin to follow as he swims toward the surface. He doesn't plan to let them out of his sight, and he knows the feeling is mutual.
----
Exactly twenty minutes and 13 seconds have passed since Steve threw himself over the rail of the ship, and Eddie hasn't moved. He knows his crew is a little concerned, especially when they notice the red cut across his cheek, but he waves them off when they try to pull him away from the railing to focus on something else.
He just can't risk Steve surfacing and not seeing him.
And his paranoia feels validated when Steve does surface and immediately smiles brightly at him, looking somewhere between relieved and ecstatic. "Eddie!" Steve shouts, waving like he doesn't always have Eddie's undivided attention, "Jump in!"
Here's the thing. When a gorgeous merman that Eddie has spent a bunch of time courting (and then kissing) tells him to jump into the ocean, Eddie is going to jump into the fucking ocean. "Just a second," he shouts back.
He kicks off his shoes, waves off Asher and Jeff when they try to convince him to not jump off the ship, and then launches himself over the railing. For a brief moment, Eddie feels weightless, and then he hits the water. His legs sting a little where they broke the surface, the cut on his cheek practically screams in protest, and a cascade of bubbles block his vision just as much as the salt that stings his eyes and makes everything blurry.
The blurriness does nothing to keep him from recognizing Steve when he swims closer, though. Steve is still grinning at him, and Eddie's grin in return falters slightly when he tries to kick to the surface and Steve stops him. Before Eddie can try to signal that he cannot, in fact, breathe underwater, Steve kisses him.
As they kiss, Steve's tongue pushes against Eddie's lips, carefully prying them open. Eddie leans closer to Steve, figuring he doesn't mind dying like this, and falters when he feels a bubble of air roll down his tongue and lodge in his throat. Steve pulls away, and Eddie inhales on reflex. The bubble in his throat gets a tiny bit smaller, and Eddie doesn't get any water in his lungs.
"Tug my arm when the bubble gets too small. You won't be able to talk underwater, but you won't drown." And then he notices the cut on Eddie's face. His smile drops some, and he leans forward, gently tracing his finger along the wound. "Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you," Steve says, his voice echoing and surrounding Eddie in the water.
Eddie shakes his head, waving his hand dismissively. It's at this point that he notices some blurry shapes a distance away, but he doesn't pay them too much mind. He focuses back on Steve and takes his hand, squeezing reassuringly before kissing his palm.
"It doesn't hurt, right?" Steve asks, his voice a little softer and slightly muffled but still one of the most beautiful things Eddie has ever heard.
Eddie shakes his head again and wraps his free hand around Steve's waist, pulling him closer. This is much easier to do in the water. He kisses Steve again, tasting salt more than anything else, and Steve takes the chance to replenish the air bubble despite its minimal use so far.
When he pulls away, he looks more relaxed. "Promise you'll let me know if you need more air?" he asks, his tone insistent and firm. Steve waits for Eddie to nod before grinning. "Great, because my guppies and Robin want to meet you. And, uh, they're really disappointed about not getting to sink your ship, but don't hold that against them."
Eddie blinks, suddenly wondering if maybe he shouldn't have jumped into the ocean at Steve's beck and call. But then he notices the way Steve moves so naturally in the water, how his hair floats and moves around him, how bubbles rise from his gills as he speaks, and Eddie knows he'd jump without thought all over again.
So, yeah, he guesses it's time to meet some guppies and Robin.

Wrong Number 8
Eddie and Steve threw a few more axes, Eddie getting unnecessarily close to fix Steve's form many times. There was a point where Eddie didn't even need to fix anything but if Steve was letting him touch, he would. After about half an hour more, Robin took Steve into the bathroom again. Eddie knew he was the subject of the conversation. He just didn't know in what regard.
He skipped over to Jeff. "Ain't he a peach?"
"Got an ass like one", Jeff offered.
"Just utter perfection. Don't go oglin' him too much though. I might get the wrong idea."
"He's all yours Eddie. I don't even think a crowbar could get between you two right now", Jeff said.
Steve came out of the bathroom with Robin and it was decided that Robin would head on back to the apartment, taking Steve's car.
"You're letting Robin drive?", Eddie asked with a raised brow. He remembered Steve remarking quite a bit how his little birdie had two left wings, so to speak and how it took her about five tries to get her driver's license because she'd been so nervous behind the wheel.
"She can make it", Steve said confidently. "And it'll give us some time to ourselves. And I'll need someone to drive me when the night's done." He stepped closer to Eddie and Eddie closed the distance even more. It was like they were magnetic.
"Drive you home?"
Steve smiled, hearing the hopeful tone in his voice. "I was thinking your place, actually."
They were nearly nose to nose now and Steve barely even noticed Robin taking the keys from his pocket. Eddie couldn't stand being that close and not kissing him so he did just that. The only thing that made them stop was Jeff shooing them out just as a kid's birthday party came in. Couldn't have them doing all that in front of children, after all.
Eddie led Steve to his van. "Your chariot, your highness", he said as he opened the door for him.
Steve got in and looked around, taking in everything that was Eddie. Eddie practically ran to get in on the other side and turn it on.
"So, where to?"
"I could eat", Steve said. His stomach was still fluttering with how new everything was, so he didn't think he'd be eating much, but he could put something in his stomach.
Eddie took them to a little restaurant and Eddie admitted to being nervous to and not wanting to eat much, so they agreed on just some appetizers.
"I feel like I'm about two seconds from vomiting. In a good way!", he added quickly.
"A little worrying that you've been letting me kiss you all night with that knowledge", Steve grinned. He reached out across the table and held Eddie's hand. "I can't believe I can just touch you."
"You can do more than touch", Eddie said, kissing his fingertips.
"Is this...are we...?" Steve's gaze turned down.
"What?"
"Are we going too fast? We just met today but-I mean normally when I meet a guy, I'm not all over him like this but with you-"
"Sweet thing", Eddie beamed. "I've been courtin' you since you sent that first text."
Steve chuckled. "The very first one?"
"Well maybe not when you thought I was still Misty. But I don't consider this a first meeting. How can I when we already know so much about each other?" Eddie knew how Steve was before bed and right when we woke up. Steve knew which tattoos had meaning and which didn't.
"So I'm not...you don't think I'm being too much?", Steve asked.
Eddie shook his head. "Baby you could crawl in my ribs and it wouldn't be close enough. I've been trying to drink you in all night, haven't you noticed?"
"I might've noticed a few sips here and there", Steve got warm as Eddie kissed up his wrist. Only the table standing between them got in the way of going further. But it was very easy to imagine Eddie's lips having nothing in their way.
Eddie's eyes had been closed while savoring Steve's skin but when he opened them they were dark with desire. "What do you say we-"
"Yes."
They had time for dinner dates (which they'd already done) and eventful outings. Right now the things they wanted to do required privacy. Eddie was on his best behavior, trying to take the quickest route back to his place. Steve was doing every naughty thing imaginable, short of unzipping Eddie's pants and giving him road head. He stroked Eddie's thigh, kissed his neck, licked in his ear, played with his hair.
And even when Eddie gave him a soft reprimand, lest they crash, Steve found ways to torture him.
"So mean, not letting me touch you", he said, squirming in his seat. He started rolling his hips like he was grinding the air and Eddie thought he was going to lose his mind.
He pretty much screeched to a stop and tore both their doors open. Once Steve was out, Eddie pinned him to the side of the van, devouring his mouth and pressing their hips together. He was already fully tented in his jeans.
"You knowmmm", Steve broke off in a moan as Eddie released his lips to start on his neck. "You have a van. You could've just pulled o-oohhh-off and had me back there."
"A pretty thing like you?", Eddie smirked. "You deserve a bed, princess."
With that clear goal in mind, Eddie took Steve up to his apartment. Steve had just enough time to take in sights familiar from past video calls: the guitar, one of the many band posters, and various mugs hanging in the kitchen before Eddie was pulling him into the bedroom. Eddie sat on the bed and Steve slid easily into his lap.
Eddie groaned at the weight on him. "Got a present for me, big boy?", he asked, hands going behind Steve to squeeze his cheeks.
"Sounds like you already know."
He did. Touching Steve so much gave him a little preview. But it was still fun to unwrap it later. He did just that, unbuttoning and then unzipping Steve's pants to see the flash of purple lace.
"You like?", Steve asked. He didn't need to though, Eddie's face was easy to read.
"Oh baby, I like. I like very much." Eddie helped Steve out of his shirt, kissing the skin that was revealed to him and then helped him out of his pants.
Steve stood before Eddie who was still sitting on the bed and put his hands on his shoulders. Eddie's hands went to his hips, touching the lavender material almost reverently. He showed restraint, not immediately diving in, but just for a second. He tried going in for a taste but Steve put a finger to his forehead, stopping him.
"Your turn."
He went around Eddie and laid across the bed, waiting for him to get on with it. Eddie was a whirlwind of clothes being torn off his body and Steve laughed as he hopped into bed with him.
"You moved like the Tasmanian Devil", Steve smiled.
Eddie put an arm around Steve's waist and pulled him in close. "Well you make me go-", then he made a bunch of incomprehensible babbling noises. "Please don't kick me out of bed", he said once he realized what he did.
But Steve had been smiling the whole time. Then laughing. Then petting Eddie's hair and bringing him in for a kiss.
"Sooo, you're not turned off?", Eddie ventured. Steve was kissing his jaw now, but he had to ask to be sure.
"I always thought Taz was kinda cute."
"I'm more of a Bugs Bunny guy myself", Eddie said.
Steve smirked as he reached down to grasp Eddie's cock that had been sitting between them, weeping and neglected until now. He leaned in, whispering hotly as Eddie's curls tickled his cheek.
"What's up, doc?"
"Holy shit", Eddie gasped out as Steve started to stroke him. "That shouldn't be so hot."
"Life's full of surprises, isn't it?", Steve winked.
Only about two years later, before all of their friends and family in their best formal wear, would Steve admit that he knew Eddie was the one from the first time they made love. Because he made him laugh the entire time.
"It wasn't only because I made you laugh, right?", Eddie would ask during their third dance of the night.
"I was only laughing so much because of how funny, brilliant, romantic, and sexy you were that night", Steve said.
Steve was wearing a golden yellow tuxedo with black accents, while Eddie was wearing the reverse. It was fitting, given that of all the pet names Eddie gave him, 'honey' probably came up the most. Honey, sweet thing, sweetheart, and even one time sugar tits. Eddie was obsessed with telling Steve how sweet he was.
"And to think, this wouldn't've happened if that girl gave you her real number", Eddie mused out loud. "Her loss. Her incredibly, massively huge loss."
"No", Steve smiled, bringing his hands to Eddie's face to give him a sweet kiss. "I think I got the right number."

Steve did come home to their now shared apartment and Eddie had been waiting on his knees, one of his own wings on a tiny pillow that Steve didn't even know they had. Eddie had babbled about wanting to plan for it more and talk about it more and getting an actual ring and making the proposal special but how he'd known for a while now that he wanted to marry Steve and it was in such an anxious rush that Steve's ears only got part of it.
His heart got all of it.
"On your feet, Taz. Yes, I'll marry you."
Eddie shot up and gathered Steve in his arms, spinning them around in a whirl. Eddie definitely tried to get them to fall on the couch when they started to lose their balance but he miscalculated and they hit the floor instead, one of Eddie's legs catching on the coffee table.
Despite the pain, Steve was giggling. "I knew we should've taken that left turn at Alburquerque."
Eddie groaned at how his leg smarted. "That's all folks."
END
Yaaay! Thank you for another one! If you liked the lil tidbits of Steve's job here I'm planning a teacher au soon so be on the lookout for that :)

“Cmon Eddie,” Steve all but whines, bottom lip jutting out ever so slightly and big golden eyes pleading.
God why does he have to be so cute, Eddie curses.
“Sweetheart,” Eddie tries to reply sternly, but it comes out just as whiny, “why can’t we just stay in?”
“Because we always stay in,” Steve replies with a sigh, punctuating his point by flopping down next to Eddie on the couch in their shared apartment.
Eddie turns to him then, arm outstretched across the back of the lounge, fingers playing with the hair at the nape of Steve's neck. He leans down, placing gentle kisses along Steve’s shoulder, making his way towards Steve’s neck.
“But we always. Have. So. Much. Fun,” Eddie accentuates each word with a kiss, “when we stay in.” A smirk playing on his lips as he starts to nibble on the place where Steve’s shoulder and throat meet.
Steve rolls his eyes but can’t help leaning into Eddie’s touch. He tries to argue further, but makes no move to stop Eddie as he continues to kiss his neck.
“We do,” Steve agrees, “but we would also have fun if we went out. Please Eds, you promised you'd take me to that new club.”
Eddie raises his head, looking at Steve’s pleading face.
“A club?” Eddie repeats, disapprovingly. Steve is right though… he did promise him that, weeks ago actually.
“Yes, a club,” Steve mocks, “it’ll be fun, we can have some drinks, dance a bit-”
“I don’t dance.”
Steve rolls his eyes at the interruption. “I could dance a bit while you stand there and look pretty for me,” he flirts.
Eddie looks at him deadpan, but Steve notices the blush on his face.
“Make everyone else in the club jealous,” he continues, slinking closer to Eddie before whispering in his ear, “then when we come home I’ll let you do that thing that you did to me in that scene last week.”
“You let me do that to you anyway,” Eddie responds, shivering at Steve’s whispering despite his protests and Steve knows he has him right where he wants him.
“Fine,” Eddie finally sighs, though he can’t help smiling when he sees Steve’s face absolutely beaming at him.
Steve leans in to press a short but sweet kiss to Eddie’s lips.
“Thank you,” he whispers, before getting up and making his way to their room, “You won’t regret it babe, it’s gonna be fun, promise.” The last words coming out as a yell as he makes his way further down the hallway.
Eddie sighs fondly with fake annoyance as he sees Steve hurry excitedly down the hall to get ready. Eddie hates going out to clubs, hates the music, hates the type of people that usually go to places like that. He does, however, love seeing Steve happy.
He also secretly loves all of the lingering stares at his boyfriend and especially the death stares he gets from everyone when they realise that he is somehow with Steve and not them.
He gets up from the couch, making his way to the fridge to get a beer, deciding he might as well start drinking now, whatever will help make the night more enjoyable.
The glass clinks along the shelf of the fridge as he grabs the chilled bottle, fumbling for his lighter in his pocket before using it to pop the bottle cap off.
As he takes the first swig of the golden liquid his eyes drift to the closing fridge. Breath hitching as his eyes make contact with that photo again.
He’s honestly not even sure why they keep that photo there, but there’s no way either of them could ever take it off. Some days he can forget that it’s even there, subconsciously ignore it. But other days, like today apparently, his eyes decided to lock on it.
It’s a cute photo. One of him, Steve and you. Cheeks squished uncomfortably close and sickly sweet smiles on every face.
His eyes bore into yours, the usual sick feelings of anger, sadness, longing and regret bubbling up inside. Did he make the right choice? Should he have just kept his mouth shut and continued with your little arrangement? He knew Steve at least had feelings for him so he wouldn’t have been totally left out. Should he have given you time? Should he have run back inside with Steve and proclaimed their love for you on their knees? Would you have forgiven them? Would you have wanted them too?
Steve comes out of the bedroom holding two shirts, intending to ask Eddie’s opinion on which one he should wear. He’s stopped in his tracks, however, when he sees Eddie’s tense body.
He can see his hunched shoulders, the tendons in his forearm flexing as he holds onto the bottle in his hand too tightly, his features twisted as he stares straight ahead. He can almost hear the voice inside Eddie’s head screaming at him.
Steve doesn’t need to get any closer to know what Eddie’s looking at. He seems to be finding Eddie in this same spot more and more lately. Not that he can judge, he’s pretty sure Eddie finds him like this just as much.
He gently places the shirts over the edge of the couch, moving slowly into the kitchen before wrapping his arms around Eddie, his chest pressing up against the other boy's back.
He brings his hands up to rub Eddie’s chest soothingly, hooking his chin over his shoulder and placing gentle kisses on his neck and jaw.
He holds Eddie like that for a little while, knowing Eddie will speak up when hes ready to, if at all. Sometimes they do this for a while and then one of them will turn around with a distraction, both of them pretending it didn’t happen at all. On other occasions one of them will fall apart in the other's arms or together, holding each other until the tears subside and the pain gets bearable again. Other times, they’ll talk about it. They’ll talk about you or a funny memory from what feels like another life now.
“I just miss her,” Eddie finally whispers, “so fucking much man.”
Steve smiles sympathetically. “I know sweetheart,” he whispers back, “I do too.”
They both continue staring at your photo longingly.
“Do you think she misses us?” Eddie asks tentatively after a pause.
“I hope so,” is all Steve can say back.
They’ve had this same conversation a thousand times, on both sides. The replies never change. They’re both scared they never will.
Eddie turns away from your picture finally, spinning in Steve’s arms to embrace him properly. Burying his face in his freckled neck and breathing in his comforting scent. His hands roam Steve’s naked back, the skin on skin contact soothing.
“Do you think we made the right decision?” He mumbles into Steve.
Steve sighs heavily.
“I don’t know, but we made it and at least I get to have you,” Steve tries to reassure. It makes Eddie smile, but doesn’t help the hurt.
Eddie doesn’t want to bring the mood down, doesn’t want to ruin this night for Steve. So he takes a deep breath, collecting himself before pulling away from Steve.
“So is this what you’re wearing to the club?” He teases. Steve chuckles at him as the mood flips.
“Don’t get me wrong sweetheart, I love it, but I don’t think I’ll be able to fight off every person in the club.
Steve just rolls his eyes, playfully telling Eddie to shut up before showing him his shirt options.
*****
Steve feels the electric atmosphere of the club, the excitement of the crowd hyping him up, eagerness practically seeping off of him.
Eddie notices immediately and puts away any uneasiness he has about being dragged here, plastering a smile on his face, for Steve’s sake.
Steve can tell Eddie is out of his comfort zone, but is determined for him to actually have fun so he takes his hand, pulling him towards the bar.
They order their drinks, Eddie downing his much too quickly before asking for another while Steve just shakes his head at him. They stay at the bar for a little while, Steve letting Eddie get more comfortable and hopefully buzzed enough to actually start having a good time.
Steve feels his own buzz coming on as they both empty their drinks, giggling as he looks at the expression on Eddie’s face.
“You really are hating this, huh?” He asks.
“What? Me?” Eddie feigns hurt overdramatically, “of course not sweetheart, I’m having the time of my life with my favourite guy.”
Steve smiles at him fondly, too cloudy to this of a good enough comeback, and way too giddy from the compliment. Steve decides he’s had enough of standing by the bar. He beckons the other boy to follow him, excitedly leading them both onto the dance floor when Eddie doesn’t protest.
Eddie tries to not get annoyed as people bump into him and scream around him. He presses up close to Steve as soon as the other stops, finally deep enough into the crowd.
Steve turns to Eddie laughing again at the look on his face.
“Come on man,” he playfully shoves, “it’s not that bad.”
“Oh yes it is,” he replies as he puts his hands on Steve’s hips. Both of them swaying to the music, it’s not exactly what Steve would call dancing, but it’ll do for now. “There’s just so many people bumping me and screaming and spilling shit.”
“How is that any different to all those shows you force me to go to?” Steve teases.
“It just is,” Eddie grumbled, “also ‘force’ you to go to?”
“Mmmhmm, ‘force’” Steve nods, starting to actually dance in front of Eddie.
Eddie watches in awe, he’s such a dork but oh my god he is so hot. Eddie tries his best to “dance” along with him, feeling more like a baby deer trying to walk for the first time.
They continue to dance for a little while, Eddie slowly feeling more comfortable as the alcohol starts to tingle through him. Eddie is still keenly away that he obviously isn’t the only one who thinks Steve looks delicious right now. But he watches in disgust as he sees another guy eyeing him up before coming over to them.
Steve feels somebody else’s hand touch his lower back, glancing at Eddie he can see the metalhead’s eyes darken protectively.
“Hey, you’re really hot,” Steve can smell the alcohol on the other man's breath as he slurs in his ear.
Steve turns slightly to him, giving him a small but polite smile as he mumbles out thanks before turning back to Eddie as he tries to move away from the other guy’s hand.
The drunken man follows, however, pressing up against Steve as he asks, what Steve is assuming, to dance. It’s hard to make out anything he’s saying as his words get lost in an intoxicated mumble, hot on Steve’s ear.
“Look man,” Steve lightly pushes him off, trying to get some distance between them, “I’m not really interested, okay?”
The drunk still doesn’t take a hint. Pressing his front up close to Steve, placing his hands on Steve’s hips but before he can get even a whisper out Eddie is forcefully pushing the other guy off by his shoulder, holding him upright as he stumbles from the impact.
“Maybe you didn’t hear him, he said fuck off,” Eddie seethes. The other guy looks at Eddie in disgust. Steve can see the way they’re both eyeing each other.
“Ed’s,” Steve warns with a hand on his chest, trying to de-escalate the interaction, “it’s fine, come on let’s go get another drink.”
Before Eddie can protest or get them kicked out of a club they just got to, Steve takes his hand. Leading them back through the sea of people to the bar.
Steve can feel Eddie’s hand gripping his. The squeeze is bordering on painful, but Steve doesn’t dare untangle their fingers.
Steve orders them another drink each as Eddie stands seething behind him, alcohol making Eddie feel even more possessive than usual, maybe blowing the situation out of proportion. He presses his chest right up against Steve’s back, as if he’s trying to shield him from every other person in the club.
“You know you don’t have to “defend my honour” right?” Steve tries to joke with Eddie after he thanks the bartender for their drinks.
He turns around to face Eddie finally, laughter halting the second he sees the dark look on Eddie’s face. He’s seen that face before and he loves it.
“I do,” he seethes, bringing his hand up to cup Steve’s face, tender in spite of his words, “but I need everyone to know that you’re mine.” He brings his lips to Steve’s in a searing kiss.
Eddie is quick to deepen the kiss, tongue roughly invading Steve’s mouth almost instantly. The taste of cheap alcohol being passed between them.
Steve gets drunk on Eddie. The way he’s cradling Steve so delicately while invading his mouth so desperately making his head swim even more than the liquor. They continue to invade each other's space, Steve's hands clinging to Eddie’s hips.
They break the kiss reluctantly when they both need to come up for air.
“God I love when you're jealous,” Steve breathes.
Eddie takes a sip of the dark liquid in his cup, hand still against Steve’s face before he starts to nip at Steve's jaw.
“Oh I know you do sweetheart,” Eddie drawls before capturing Steve's lips again, the kiss is slower this time, but equally as passionate, as they relax into each other. Eddie’s hands roaming down to rest in Steve’s back jeans pockets as he leans his back against the bar.
They can feel the bulge in each other’s jeans as they press incredibly closer to each other, slowly grinding against each other.
Steve starts to sway slightly as he gets bumped by a passing patron, causing Eddie to open his eyes as he holds Steve up, the kiss only breaking slightly before Steve leans back into Eddie.
But before Eddie can get lost in the kiss again, out of the corner of his eye, something catches his attention across the bar. It feels like eternity as his brain catches up to what his eyes are seeing, but he’d be able to tell that face anywhere, the one that’s haunted his dreams for a year.
You.
Eddie feels as if the bar has gone silent. The whole building might as well be empty besides the two of you. He feels sick with all of the emotions swirling around him. He feels relief at finally seeing you, knowing you’re somewhat okay. But can’t stop feeling as if his heart is being ripped from his chest, the hurt and sadness and regret from all of those nights crying over you coming back to him all at once.
He watches as your attention is on the bartender in front of you, arms leant against the sticky bar, accentuating your cleavage. He curses himself for looking but god do you look good.
Before he can stare at you longer he notices the other person next to you, his stomach twisting uncomfortably as he sees his hand on your lower back. He knows he has no right to be jealous but the site of another man touching you sends him reeling.
Without meaning to, Eddie nips Steve’s lip that’s still moving against his own before pulling back, eyes never leaving you.
Steve can’t help the whimper that leaves his lips, his brain taking a couple of seconds to register the look on Eddie’s face. He looks like he's seen a ghost.
Dazed, Steve follows Eddie’s line of sight when he sees it.
You.
Steve has a similar experience to Eddie. His head swimming from all of the ugly and heavy emotions hitting him all at once. He’s thankful that Eddie’s body is still pressed against his, somewhat grounding him.
“Holy shit,” Steve mutters, much happier than Eddie expected. Steve obviously hasn’t seen the guy standing next to you.
Steve’s eyes can’t help but roam your body, much like Eddie’s had. You look different but good. Steve’s eyes take in the black fabric hugging your body, the way it accentuates your curves, the way your hair shines and your eyes sparkle. He watches you in awe… until his eyes land on your back. Or actually, what's on your back.
Steve feels his heart plummet as he realises you’re here with someone else. His eyes stare daggers into the boy’s hand that’s resting too comfortably on the small of your back. He feels like he's about to be sick with all of the emotions rushing through him. He has no right to feel so angry but as he looks at the boy cozying up to you he has to stop himself from rushing over there, pulling you away from the other man and never letting you go again.
“What the fuck,” he mutters. Finally he must've seen it, Eddie thinks.
They watch in silence as the bartender pours two shots in front of you and the other guy who is still touching you. They’re mildly surprised when you take one of the shots, not usually one to drink anything that doesn’t taste like it’s basically just juice.
As you bring the small glass to your lips you look up. Steve feels the breath hitch in his throat as your eye’s meet his for the first time in over a year. Before your eyes quickly flash to Eddie, who has a similar reaction, before your face contorts in disgust at the strong liquid sliding down your throat.
They’re enraged as they see you take his hand. Dragging him away quickly. Hurt crushes their chests as they realise how quickly you want to get away from them.
Steve’s eyes follow you as you leave, sadness and anger clearly showing in his darkened pupils.
“Who the hell is that,” Eddie seethes in Steve’s ear, pulling him closer, “we can’t let her go this time man, we gotta follow her,” Steve watches as you briefly turn to look back, a ray of hope cracking through the gloom before you turn to leave once again.
“I can’t- we can’t lose her, again,” Eddie pleads.
Steve turns to face him, he can see his own pain and anger mirrored in Eddie’s face. He nods definitively at him, they can’t let you go again. He pulls him back through the crowd, stopping when they see you again. They leave some room in between you and them, not wanting to overcrowd you and to give them time to come up with a plan.
As to not stand out too much Steve starts to mindlessly dance to the music while Eddie sways in front of him. Eddie watches as you continue to dance with him but catches you looking around. He prays you're looking for them, but doesnt get his hopes up. When your eyes start to scan closer to where they're standing Eddie lurches forward, starting to press gentle kisses to Steve’s neck, trying to make it look like he wasn't just staring at you.
Eddie chances a glance up, seeing that you’re watching them. He whispers to Steve, letting him know that they have your attention. They both make eye contact with you, a million emotions taking hold of them, but mostly they are hurt and angry as they watch you dance and have fun with someone else. Someone who isn't them. Someone who could’ve easily been them if they just hadn’t been such idiots.
Blood boils in their veins and, admittedly, their cocks as they watch you turn back to the other man, kissing and grinding against him as he holds you close. They hate how much your little show is turning them on.
They’re both completely taken aback when you wink at them.
“She fucking knows what she’s doing to us,” Eddie practically growls in Steve’s ear.
“Fucking brat,” Steve scoffs.
They watch on in lustful irritation as you continue your little show for them. They watch your hips sway and grind, your hands roam your dates body as they try to not look at his hands roaming yours. They continue to dance with each other, both absentmindedly grinding into the other as they feel themselves grow painfully hard against each other.
The alcohol, the atmosphere, that damn dress you're wearing is messing with them. Their thoughts are completely muddled, they don’t know what to think or how to feel. The only thing they can think clearly is how much they would kill to rip that dress off you and show everyone in the club who you belong to.
They feel as if they’re on the verge of stalking over there when they see your date lean down to whisper in your ear. Eddie has to stop himself from scoffing as he thinks of all the stupid, cheesy shit he could be spurting. All the sappy shit you and him used to make fun of.
Confusion washes over them both as they see the other man leave suddenly. They see you nod at him, and the forced smile you give him before his retreat, but they can tell you’re uncomfortable.
They watch as you continue to dance by yourself, although you look much more tense now that you’re alone. They mentally add this to the ever growing list of things they don’t like about this guy.
Even tense, the way you dance has them mesmerised. They almost forget about their plan to talk to you as they become completely bewitched by you.
Eddie can’t take it anymore, you’re so close to him and finally alone, he has to talk to you.
“This is our chance,” Eddie whispers urgently and a little too loudly in Steve’s ear. Throwing all caution and reason to the wind he quickly starts weaving his way through the crowd.
“Wha- hey, Ed's wait-,” shouldn’t we think about this and what we’re gonna say first? Steve was about to say, but Eddie had left too quickly. Steve curses as he starts to move after Eddie, holding back a bit as he watches the metalhead go up to you, wanting to gauge your reaction.
Eddie sees you turning around, face searching for someone. He’s surprised to find you’re looking right where they used to be standing. Maybe you were watching them as much as they were watching you?, he thinks, still hopeful you’ll actually want to talk to him.
He falters slightly as he finally reaches you, suddenly aware that he’s not sure what he’s even going to say to you, where does he even start? He’d also be lying if he said your outfit wasn’t making him feel a little bit intimidated…
Suddenly he sees you start to leave. He rushes forward, grabbing onto your waist lightly and pulling you into him. His eyes involuntarily roll back as he feels you brush against him.
“Hey there, little one,” he purrs into your ear, your old nickname easily rolling off his tongue, making him aware of how much he’s missed saying it.
His mind is reeling at having you this close to him. The sliver of coherent thoughts he had left have officially been pushed out of his mind by thoughts of you. How you look, how you feel, hell even how you smell.
“We liked that little show you put on for us, sweetheart,” he continues. Not exactly what he wanted to say but he knew he had to say something and that was the first thing he could think of through the fog of desire that’s set in heavy around his head.
His hands feel as though they have a mind of their own as he starts to massage your hips. He has to suppress a groan at the way they feel pressed beneath your thin dress. His hips involuntarily press closer to you and Eddie could get down on his knees and pray when he feels you press back against him too.
He starts to sway to the music as he had with Steve, to make it so neither of you stand out and also as an excuse to get some sort of friction against his throbbing dick that’s pressed perfectly against the plush of your ass.
Getting swept away in you he starts to press light kisses to your neck, keeping it light, knowing he shouldn’t push his luck. He’s pleasantly surprised when you let out a breathy moan and sink back against him further, your head lolling ever so slightly to the side to give him more access to your throat.
Steve watches on at your interaction. At first rolling his eyes at Eddie, thinking for sure he was about to get slapped by you. But now he watches on with lust and honestly a bit of jealousy. He knows you and Eddie are going to regret this later but he can’t keep his eyes away, his hands twitching and dick hardening as he tries to fight his own reason, the alcohol, and you and Eddie, making it extremely hard to.
Nerves pierce Eddie's heart as he feels you start to pull away slightly and at the look you’re giving him as you finally turn to face him. He can see the conflicted emotions on your face, you seem almost guilty at how much you’re enjoying this. He watches you as he waits for you to say something, but instead you just search his own eyes. He has to suppress a smirk as he watches your lips part and thighs clench at the lust you obviously find swimming in his dark pupils.
Steve has officially lost all sense of reason when he sees you suddenly turn around in Eddie’s arms, he can’t see the look on your face but he can read your body language. He decides to join you and Eddie, coming up behind you just in time for you to step back against him.
He shudders as he feels you pressed against him again, becoming instantly intoxicated by you. He bends to your height, lips accidentally brushing your ear as he whispers “don't be like that, honey.”
He mentally celebrates when you relax, pushing back into him and letting Eddie step close to you again. Steve can’t help but let his hands roam you, electricity forming under his fingertips as he traces your waist and thighs, like his hands can’t believe they're actually feeling you again. His hard on presses rougher than he’d meant to against you, his possessive side truly taking the reins.
“Can you feel what your little show did to us baby?” Steve continues in your ear, desperate for you to say something, “you’re so fucking naughtly getting us all worked up like that.”
They continue to tease you, pressing against you, their hands continuing to roam wherever they can reach, revelling in the little breathy sounds you're making. But they share a look when you still haven’t responded to either of them.
“Anything to say for yourself, miss?” Eddie tries, growing desperate to hear you say anything, even if it’s telling them to stop, just any indication you’re liking (or not liking) this.
They chuckle in relief as they hear you moan in response, much louder than the noises you had been making, but still, it’s not enough, they need to hear your voice again.
They’re growing painfully desperate as they continue to touch your body. Steve’s hands end up all over your thighs as Eddie’s come to rest perfectly against your waist. Where they belong, they both think.
Steve decides to try his luck as his fingers slowly glide further and further towards the front of your thighs, hips bucking against you as you let out a fucking whimper at the action. He starts to kiss up your throat again, causing Eddie to smirk at him when your eyes flutter closed.
“That feel nice, pretty girl?” Steve tries, surely you have to reply to this, and just in case he adds, “want me to keep going?”
Eddie anxiously watches your face, looking for any sign of discomfort. He relaxes when he sees you nod slowly, but still it’s not your beautiful voice.
“Ah, ah,” he tuts, “you know the rules princess, use your words.”
Eddie and Steve feel as though they’ve ascended to heaven when they hear you finally whimper out a small and shaky “please”. Your voice sounds like music to their ears, the fucked out tone making their dicks throb.
Eddie nods at Steve, just in case he’d missed your tiny plea, desperate to see you come apart for them. Steve groans as his fingers finally make contact with your already dripping cunt, he has to fight against his need to finger you and to continue touching you, and the aching of his dick pressed too tightly against his pants.
He dips his fingers into your underwear, growing impatient as he continues to moan in your ear, not even trying to stop them anymore.
“Fuck you’re dripping,” he can’t help but tease, “this all for us huh?”
They revel in the way you nod your head enthusiastically and can only whimper in response. Beneath all of the lust and cloudy thoughts they realise that this must mean you still want them at least a little bit… right?
Eddie almost cums in his jeans at the sound you make when Steve’s fingers finally dip into your soaking cunt. He feels your knees start to buckle as Steve finds a steady pace immediately. Eddie hopes you won't hate him later for the bruises his fingers are sure to leave with how much he’s gripping your waist, trying his best to keep you all upright and somewhat inconspicuous.
Eddie presses further into you to have some leverage while holding you up. He doesn’t, however, anticipate that this position would make the back of Steve's palm drag against his clothed bulge as he continues to finger you. Eddie clenches his jaw as he feels himself growing embarrassingly close just from the back of Steve's hand rubbing him.
Steve feels completely overwhelmed in the best way possible, feeling you clenching around his fingers as you grow closer, Eddie’s cock bumping against the other side of his hand as he rocks into him too, his cock so hard Steve swears he can feel it throb, even through his jeans. He can’t help but try and chase some release too, hips repeatedly grinding into your ass.
They both have to hold back lewd groans as they hear your moans become higher, a telltale sign you’re just as close and as worked up as they are.
They groan as they hear you stutter out an almost incomprehensible “I’m, I’m-” before you're gushing around Steve’s fingers, face buried into the crook of Eddie’s neck as you finally come apart for them.
The way you’re clinging to him shouldn’t warm Eddie’s heart as much as it does, the current situation nowhere near ‘heartwarming’, but he cherishes it anyway.
They’re fighting every urge in their body to not push you to the sticky floor and have their way with you as they hear your moans fall from your beautiful lips, god they've missed your sounds so much.
As you start coming down from your high they start rubbing you soothingly, Steve focusing on your thighs and Eddie’s hand in your hair, holding you against him gently as he tells you how beautiful you look and how well you did for them.
They never want this moment to end, the peace they both finally feel having you in their arms again is incomparable to anything they’ve ever felt. It’s the one thing that’s felt wrong their entire relationship. The absence of you.
Their perfect scenario comes crashing down all too fast as you suddenly stiffen in their arms. Lifting your head from Eddie’s shoulder you tentatively meet his eyes.
He feels like he’s going to be sick as he instantly sees the overwhelmed look in them. He whispers your name carefully, pleadingly, knowing you’re about to run away again, knowing he can’t lose you, not again. He’s about to start pleading with you but before he can say anything you snap at him, telling him to let you go.
You push back against Eddie’s chest, prying your way out from in between them, and they let you, not wanting to physically force you to stay. They yell after you as they start to follow you, but you ignore them, rushing away as fast as your heels will let you.
Steve’s turns around to look at Eddie. He wears a face that looks as broken as Steve feels.
“We fucked up.”

Season Two Halloween AU Part Six
Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five
Synopsis: What if Eddie had been at Tina's Halloween Party in Season Two? Featuring Steve!Whump, Stancy Breakup, and Eddie just trying to keep up with all these new revelations about who King-Steve actually is...
As always, thank you thank you to the lovely Jess @strangersteddierthings for letting me inundate you with spoilers and general Stranger Things/Steddie screaming!
[CW: Period Typical Homophobia from the antagonist, violence, gore, bodily injury, Billy Hargrove is his own warning.]
***
Shit.
Shit, shit, shit.
Eddie takes a step closer to Steve, but Dustin is faster.
He pulls on the jacket sleeve, taking Steve to the window and Eddie can't even find the words to say to make him stop.
He wants to tell Dustin to give them a second, he wants to press pause on this whole horrible night and ask Steve to explain.
Because in what world did this make sense?
There is no possible way Steve is gay, and even if is, the guy is fresh off of being dumped by his girlfriend just days before.
On top of that, they're all running on fumes from a day searching for Dart, fortifying an old school bus, laying the Demodog trap in the junkyard, and finally coming back to the Byers to make their plan.
Eddie's stomach growls at the sudden thought and he realizes just how hungry he actually is after all the adrenalin and running around they've done.
If Eddie is this tired and hungry, he can't imagine Steve is faring much better, he's not thinking straight.
He can't be.
Because if he was, if he had meant it, and Eddie just--
"Oh shit," Steve says lowly from the edge of the intact window. He presses against the wall, keeping himself out of sight as much as he can, "what the fuck is Hargrove doing here?"
"That's what I'm saying," Dustin hisses, his eyes wide, he sticks close to Steve's side, away from the window and turns to Max, "what the hell is your brother doing here".
Max shoots Dustin a look and for a second Eddie thinks she's going to tell Dustin off before her face suddenly pales.
"He can't know I'm here, he'll kill me".
Lucas shifts closer to Max, knocking his shoulder into hers before turning his attention back to Steve, "he almost ran us over once, we were on our bikes".
Their bikes…Jesus.
It hits Eddie suddenly that they're just kids, all of thirteen years old, with an unpredictable asshole standing just outside their door.
Steve sighs suddenly and squares his shoulders, his big hazel eyes move from Max, to Lucas, to Dustin, and Mike, before finally landing on Eddie. His brow pinches in the middle as his expression shifts into the same determined one from the day before.
But this time there is no nail bat in his hands.
Shit.
"Steve, dont," Eddie says, darting across the room towards him, but Steve is too quick for him.
He reaches for the door and unlatches the bolt, "stay out of sight, all of you, I'll be right back".
It's a promise Eddie isn't sure Steve can make.
The kids immediately move towards the edge of the window before Eddie whispers out a sharp, "Go to the boarded one shitheads, he's going to see you".
Eddie shakes his head at the four identical eye rolls, but the kids do as he says and make their way to the far window he and Steve just closed up.
There are enough gaps between the wood slats that they can see Steve make his way to the path as Billy steps around his car.
"Am I dreaming or is that you Harrington?"
The cherry of his cigarette glows in the dark as Billy takes a long drag before flicking it into the street.
"Yeah it's me, don't cream your pants," Steve's voice is steady, the smooth lilt of his 'King' voice takes over and it's so different from what Eddie has come to realize is Steve's normal speaking voice that it throws him for a bit of a loop.
Just how much has Steve been pretending all this time.
Moonlight casts shadows over half of Billy's face but it doesn't hide the way his lip pulls over his teeth or the dark glint in his eye as he pulls off his jacket and tosses it through the open window of his Camaro.
"I'm looking for my step sister, little birdy told me she was here," Billy says, a sneer pulling at his mouth as his eyes scan the house before landing on Steve again, "which would already be weird enough, and now I find you here".
"I'm doing a favour for Mrs. Wheeler and Byers, babysitting, I don't think I've seen your step sister, what's she look like?"
Eddie can't see Steve's face from this angle but the words come out smoothly, no stumbles with the lie.
But Billy stares just a little too long for it to have properly landed.
"You do favours for people like that huh," Billy laughs, ignoring the question entirely as he takes another step closer. He and Steve are similar heights but Billy has a good twenty to thirty pounds of muscle on Steve and Eddie begins to sweat at the manic look on Billy's face.
"You're something else Harrington, I don't think I'd be able to stick around if my girl fucked someone else--"
"Your sister's Not Here," Steve bites out through gritted teeth. He steps into Billy's space, his shoulders high with tension and anger, "leave".
Billy laughs, a low dangerous sound, "you know, this whole night's been giving me a weird fucking feeling Harrington".
Billy tips his head back and leaves it there for just a moment and Eddie watches as Steve relaxes for just a second too long, tilting his head in confusion.
"And I think you're lying to me".
Billy punctuates the words by slamming his hands into Steve's shoulders, knocking him clean off his feet.
Steve hits the concrete hard, managing to roll enough for his shoulder to connect with the ground first rather than his head. He manages to sit up slightly, looking at Billy now with a mixture of surprise and fear in his wide eyes as he shifts to look back at the house.
Billy smirks and leans over Steve, "I'm just going to see for myself, told you to plant your feet pretty boy".
He stands up to his full height again and kicks Steve in the ribs. Hard.
Eddie curses quietly as Steve curls in on himself and makes a horrible retching sound, but there isn't time to worry about Steve as Billy comes lumbering up the front path towards the Byers front door.
Which is unlocked.
Eddie hadn't even thought to latch it.
"Hide. Now!" Eddie hisses at Max, she opens her mouth to argue but Lucas gives her a push to the shoulder and looks at her with pleading eyes.
"Just go okay?" Lucas whispers, pushing her again towards the kitchen.
She shoots Lucas a fierce glare over her shoulder and disappears around the corner.
Eddie steps back towards the kids, putting himself between them and the door, just in time for it to crash open.
Billy looks around the room, frowning slightly at the boarded up window and all of the drawings covering nearly every inch of the place like vines, before his gaze lands on Eddie and the kids behind him.
"Well, well, well, this is quite the party here huh boys," Billy sneers, kicking the door closed behind him.
"A private one," Eddie manages to keep his tone even as he takes a step closer, drawing Billy's eye away from the kids, "what do you want Hargrove".
Billy scoffs and tries to step around Eddie, yelling at the top of his voice as he moves, "Maxine! You got three seconds to get you skinny ass out here before I bring you out myself".
Eddie mirrors his path, blocking his movement.
"Who the fuck are you talking to man, I guess thats what happens when you take too many balls to face huh?" Eddie says with a mocking laugh in his voice, he lets the corner of his lip rise in a cold sneer.
Billy glares, "that's rich coming from a queer like you," he lifts his hand to shove Eddie's shoulder roughly, but Eddie's dealt with assholes like Billy time and time again and he’s expecting the push.
He stays standing, keeping himself between Billy and the kids.
Billy shakes his head, "I don't know why you're involved in this, are you revenge for Byers or something? I ain't here for you or your little boyfriend out there, freak".
"Just leave us alone!" Dustin shouts, drawing Billy's eye for the first time.
"Yeah fuck off!" Mike screams as Lucas stands up, glaring venomously at Billy. He has his wrist rocket raised, armed with a piece of jagged wood from the broken window.
"Sinclair," Billy's eyes narrow as they land on Lucas, "if I find out Maxine is here because of you--"
"You'll what?" Eddie growls, he hears a door open softly behind them but keeps his eyes on Billy, not taking any chances.
Billy seems to hesitate, his eyes dropping down to Eddie's fisted hands before rising again to meet his gaze, "Max already knows what happens when people don't listen, but I guess I'll have to show you the hard way Munson".
Billy moves like a viper, his fist rears back and swings forward so quickly that Eddie barely has time to react, catching the punch in the jaw as he tries to move out of the way.
"Sonovabitch," Eddie hisses, cradling his face. His vision swims as Billy reaches for his shirt collar, but the second blow never comes.
Billy's hand falls as Steve appears, barreling into Billy, shoulder first like a linebacker, sending them both crashing into the floor. Billy's head smacks into the linoleum, forcing a low groan out of him.
Steve recovers quicker, rolling off the other teen before rising to his knees. He’s breathing hard and holding his ribs with one hand while the other braces on the coffee table as he stands up.
"Holy shit," Dustin laughs out breathlessly as Steve limps closer, moving into Eddie's space.
"You guys okay?" Steve asks softly, he lifts his hand up towards Eddie's aching jaw but stops just shy of touching him. He blinks once and moves away again before turning to the kids.
They all freeze at the sound of a wild laugh behind them.
Billy runs a shaking hand through his mullet, slowly sitting up, scoffing when his fingers come away red.
"Finally!" Billy crows, "the King Steve I've been hearing about shows his face, where was he when I gave you that black eye yesterday huh?"
Billy wipes the blood from the side of his head on his jeans and laughs again, a horrible cackle that seems to echo around the small space of the living room. He paws at something on the floor as he manages to roll over onto his knees, breathing hard.
"Let me give you some advice Harrington,” Billy says through gritted teeth, bracing one hand on the coffee table while the other remains strangely hidden behind his back.
Steve says nothing, moving himself to stand in front of Eddie and the kids. Billy stumbles slightly and shakes his head as he manages to get his feet back under himself.
"If you're gonna hit someone, make sure they don't get back up".
By the time Eddie sees what Billy has clenched in his hand it's too late.
Billy swings his hand out and catches Steve in the temple with an ashtray, the ceramic shatters on impact sending pieces of pottery in all directions and embedding several into Billy’s hand.
Eddie's heart nearly stops at the wet crunch it makes as Steve's head whips back at the impact. He crumples limply to the floor, his head bouncing once against the linoleum before Steve lays still on the living room floor.
Eddie feels like he's underwater. Like time has slowed down and he's sinking.
He doesn't realize he's moving until he's in front of Billy, until he's gripping the edges of Billy's shirt in his hands, until he's shaking him like a ragdoll.
Eddie's never felt such overwhelming rage and fear, its coursing through him, burning him up from the inside out.
Steve isn't moving.
There's only coherent thought playing on a loop in his head.
He's dead, he's dead, he's dead.
"Billy!" A small voice cuts through Eddie's yelling, when had he started yelling, from the kitchen door.
Billy's face tips towards it, his dazed eyes widen slightly and his lip curls back in a feral smile.
"I fucking knew it," Billy slurs out as Eddie throws him to the floor.
He laughs again and again, his head bleeding freely now, red lines drip down his face.
Max takes a shaky step into the living room; she ignores Lucas yelling at her to run and continues forward, Will's second dose of sedative clutched in her left hand.
Max pushes past Eddie, drops to her knees and plunges the needle into Billy's neck with a roar. Eddie watches as Billy flinches at the impact and lifts his hands to frantically rip the needle out.
"What the fuck?!" He whispers, trying to sit up but his shaking arms only drop him back to the floor, "what did you do?"
"Made it so you can't hurt my friends," Max says lowly, she trembles as Eddie helps her stand and directs her towards the boys who immediately fold her into a hug between the three of them.
Eddie keeps his eyes on Billy until his breathing smooths out and his unfocused eyes finally close before he’s on his feet. He crosses the room in two strides and drops to his knees in front of Steve, letting his uncle's voice run through everything he ever taught him about first aid.
Don't move them, keep them talking, keep them warm.
Eddie's hands shake as he reaches out for Steve's neck and feels for a pulse, trying not to look at the blood coating Steve's face or the shards of ceramic in his hair.
"Is he…" Dustin says beside Eddie, startling him. The whole house has gone eerily silent as the kids finally make their way towards them, they don't crowd him the way Dustin has though.
Eddie swallows and moves his fingers slightly until he finds it, a thin reedy pulse.
He's alive.
Eddie feels his eyes sting and a wet hysterical laugh falls from his mouth. Steve is nowhere near okay, but he's alive.
He's alive.

It all happened so fast.
Eddie had been checking him out from across the bar and before he knew what was happening he was being pressed against the bathroom stall door, hot kisses being pressed into his neck.
He had been six, maybe seven shots deep, but even through blurry eyes he could tell that this man is the most beautiful person he's ever laid his cynical eyes on.
"W-wait, slow down," Eddie moans out, looking down at the man whose now on his knees in front of him, one hand trailing underneath his shirt while the other dips below the top of his jeans, fingers toying with his boxers. He's looking at him with desperation, like he wants to worship him. Devour him.
"What's wrong?" The man pouts, and oh. That damn mouth. Those lips. Eddie curses under his breath.
"What's your name?" Eddie can't continue without having a name to moan.
"Steve," the man chuckles, leaving a wet, sloppy kiss on Eddie's hip. "Steve Harrington."
Eddie freezes.
"Harrington?" The disbelief is evident in his voice and he immediately feels himself sobering up. This cannot be happening.
Steve must sense the shift in the atmosphere because he leans back, looking up at him with confusion. Suddenly his eyes begin to widen as he stares into Eddie's, everything clicking together.
"Eddie-" he breathes out his name softly, not moving from his spot on the floor, not removing his hands from his body.
"I... I should go," Eddie begins to panic, trying to back away but realizing very quickly that he's cornered in the small stall.
"Wait-" Steve stands up, cupping Eddie's face in his hands. "Why are you trying to leave?"
He's taken aback, to say the least. He figured as soon as Steve realized it was him he'd run out of the bathroom faster than they had gotten here. Hell- he's still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that Steve Harrington is even here at this gay bar to begin with.
"Because you're you and I'm... well, I'm me," he lets out a self-deprecating laugh but Steve only frowns and brushes Eddie's hair away from his face and begins peppering kisses along his jaw, eliciting a feral noise out of Eddie.
"Tell me if you want me to stop," Steve mumbles with his lips still pressed greedily into Eddie's skin.
"God. Please don't," Eddie pleads, every ounce of dignity leaving his body at once.
"You know," Steve bites the sensitive flesh behind Eddie's ear, hot breath sending shivers down his spine. "I always had a thing for you back in high school."
Just like that Eddie feels his blood run cold and his body heat up in one fell swoop. "W-what?" He gasps, unable to grasp what he's hearing. Steve the hair Harrington liked him?! And he never noticed?!
"Well, duh," Steve laughs softly. He's made his way back down to his knees, looking up at him with big doe eyes practically begging to take off his pants, and who is Eddie to deny the king of what he wants?
"Go ahead, big boy."
Steve fucking whimpers at that and begins to expertly undo his belt as he continues talking. "How could I not have a thing for you? You were so badass and outspoken. You never let anyone bring you down. I wanted to be like you." He finished the sentence with a happy little noise as he pulls down Eddie's jeans and boxers, freeing Eddie's cock and putting it in full display.
"Trust me, sweetheart, you wouldn't have wanted to be me back then," he inhales sharply as Steve bobs his head down his full length without warning. Jesus, this guy knows what he's doing. He's never had anyone take him so well. Steve's got him quivering like a fucking virgin and he has to stick his arms straight out, pressing against the wall opposite of him to keep himself from collapsing.
"Hmm," Steve hums with Eddie's tip pressed to his lips, the vibration driving him even further into madness. "That may be true, but that didn't stop me from fantasizing. Doodling hearts in my notebooks with our initials. Imagining your hand replacing mine when I pleasured myself late at night," he continues to spew filthy words at him but Eddie nearly comes undone at just the mere thought of pretty boy Stevie writing his name in the margins on his pages, twirling his hair and biting the end of his pencil.
"Fuck, Steve I'm close," he brings one hand down to run his fingers through Steve's infamous hair, gripping it firmly before letting go of the last thread of restraint he had been holding onto.
“Your turn, Harrington,” Eddie slides his fingers through Steve’s belt loops, pulling him back to his feet.
“Nuh-uh,” Steve presses a hand firmly into his chest, abruptly stopping him before he can drop to his knees. “How about you take me to dinner first?” He cracks a wide smile and Eddie feels his heart skip a beat.
“It’s a date.”

more daisy jones-adjacent things. this time, they're finally starting to hate each other a little less.
parts 1, 2, and 3, for your reading pleasure. less drugs this time around, but way more talk about steve's ptsd. part 5. part 6. part 7.
ao3
Steve has never co-written anything before. All of his songs are his, from start to finish. Every note, every chord, every syllable is his invention, and he takes them all very seriously.
That's not to say that he doesn't accept help. He wouldn't be himself if he wasn't constantly bouncing ideas off of Robin and Dustin and Lucas, and he always has other people look it over and offer suggestions.
But the initial creation? That's all him. Steve likes that kind of control.
Writing with a band is very different. Eddie declares it, the song Steve pissed him off enough into writing, done after they've got lyrics and a lead guitar part.
"They'll write the rest," he says, like it's that simple.
Steve can't imagine letting go that much. In all honesty, he's scared shitless. He's never been good at being nice. Charming, yes. Nice, no. And he doesn't know how he'll be nice if the drum, bass, and rhythm guitar parts suck.
It's his song. Well, his and Eddie's, which is weird to think about, but still.
Steve has never co-written anything before.
And, to make matters worse, he fell asleep last night.
He knew it was coming. He's never made it past seventy-two hours, no matter how hard he tries or how high he gets. He knew it was coming, and he prepped as best as he could.
That didn't stop him from sleeping in three hour bursts, at max. Torn between the nightmares and the exhaustion and the crash, he freaked out, passed out, and repeated the cycle until he had to get up and go to the studio.
At least this time, last night, he was back in the Byers house. Scary as shit, with the initial confusion never fading, but it's the best of the nightmares he gets. Between the dogs and the torture, Steve's brain has plenty of worse things to torment him with.
Maybe he should be grateful, but he's never been good at dealing with what he's given.
This morning, he doesn't need to take anything. He's tired, but not that tired, and he's trying to give himself breaks when he can.
He doesn't want to die. He just wants to stay awake.
He has a coffee, though. That's mostly for the taste. His tolerance is shot to hell, so it's not like caffeine makes a real difference.
Steve walks into the studio, coffee in hand, and sees the band setting up and tuning their instruments. Jeff gives him a little wave, Gareth nods absently as he tightens his snare, and Archie positively beams.
"Steve, you're a saint," he says, a little mischief in his eyes. "Different chords, finally. I could kiss you."
Steve laughs and promptly cuts himself off when he sees Eddie staring at him.
"Do I have something on my face?" he asks once the silence has stretched on for too long.
"Why are you here?" Eddie asks bluntly.
Steve, notably, doesn't flinch back. He doesn't snap. He doesn't do anything that he would regret later.
He just says, steadily, "I can go if you don't want me."
He stands there, and he swallows back his hurt. He thought Eddie was finally warming up to him. He took Eddie's fighting words as an improvement from being ignored. And, as usual, Steve thought wrong.
"Hang on a sec," Jeff says. He sets his guitar down and stands between Steve and Eddie. "I said I wanted Steve on backing vocals for this."
"Is Steve not on backing vocals?" Gareth asks from the other side of the room.
"Far as I know, he is," Archie says with a pointed look at Eddie.
Eddie turns to look at Jeff instead. Steve watches their intense staring match and thinks about just walking out.
Before he can take the first step, Eddie says, "Fine."
"Fine what?" Steve can't help but ask.
"Stay."
Steve nods, but he turns to Jeff. "Are you sure? It's fine if-"
"I'm sure," Jeff says. "I think you wrote this song more for your register than mine."
"Oh, shit, I'm sorry-"
"Don't be," Jeff says. "I changed everything I can't hit, but I just want a little more support, you know?"
Steve looks around the little studio space, around at all the cables and amps and mics and instruments, and he counts. Then counts again.
"There's only four mics," he says.
Jeff picks his guitar back up and gives it a little strum. "Share with Eddie."
"What?" Eddie says, looking like he would rather walk out than do that.
"Nothing against you, Steve," Jeff explains, ignoring Eddie. "I'm just a big personal space guy. Can't focus otherwise."
Steve looks over at Eddie, still sitting, still scowling.
"Fine," he says, because he'll be professional, even if Eddie won't.
"You guys are fucking killing me," Chrissy says, and Argyle, the audio engineer next to her, nods in agreement. "Can we get this show on the road?"
Gareth gives them a little salute, one that Chrissy rolls her eyes at. "We all ready?"
"As we'll ever be," the rest of the band choruses.
Steve shrugs. "Yeah."
"You warm up?" Eddie asks, walking toward his mic.
Steve follows. "Never do."
Eddie rolls his eyes, but then Chrissy gives them the all-clear, Gareth counts them off, and they start.
And something switches.
Steve knew this would be higher energy. Different genre, different sound, whatever. But there's something fucking electric about playing with a band instead of being by himself in an iso booth, drilling vocals until he has a take he's happy with.
Recording with a band brings a different sort of energy. It creates a feedback loop, getting them higher, playing faster, sounding better.
Steve tells himself to back off. He's not the star of this show. He's been invited, and a quarter of the people in this room don't want him here.
But filling in the gaps has always come easy to him, and he gives the backing vocals his all.
And somewhere between the guitar solo and the end of the song, Eddie smiles at him for the first time.
It's quick, but it's blinding. Steve didn't think Eddie could smile until he does. It's quick as a flash and wide and feral and a little mean, but it's there, and it's directed at him.
But just like that, the first take is over. It was messy and imperfect, and as soon as it ends, Eddie is back to scowling at him.
But it's not as harsh. And that's how Steve knows that he wasn't imagining that little bit of something.
"Holy shit," Archie says, as soon as they're done. "This is gonna be a good song."
"It's gonna be a great song," Jeff says.
"I want more from Steve," Gareth adds, and the rest of the guys agree.
Even Eddie, however begrudgingly.
"Alright, boys," Chrissy says. "You've got the fun out of your systems. Let's focus and make some music."
Steve looks over at Eddie, who nods, however slightly. And he thinks, because he has never been able to kill hope a day in his life, that they could make a good team if Eddie could stop hating his guts.

You stood in front of the house and admired your handiwork - you’d decorated the front porch with everything fall and spooky. It was the first year that you and Steve were spending in your new house - the place you’d decided to call home after getting married. Naturally, that meant that you were going to go all out. Steve had been at work all day but would be home soon - you wondered if he’d like your handiwork.
“Wow,” you’d been so wrapped up in your own little world as you’d decorated and hadn’t even heard Steve come home. You turned around to find your husband standing behind you, hands on his hips as he looked everything over. You moved closer to him and wrapped your arms around his waist, pressing a kiss to his cheek, “that’s a lot of pumpkins. How many pumpkins did you get?”
“Mind your business and don’t worry about it,” you were giggling as he took your face in his hands and pressed kisses to your cheeks before softly pressing his lips to yours. It was ridiculous just how giddy and excited he still made you feel, even after all this time together, “hi.”
“Hi angel,” he dropped his hands to your waist, giving you a gentle squeeze, “it looks wonderful.”
“You really like it, Stevie?” you took his hand and started to pull over to the door to show him all the small little details and decorations. You watched his smile grow and light up his entire face as he looked over everything, “I think I went a little overboard but once I started I just didn’t stop. So here we are!”
“It’s not overboard at all. It’s perfect,” he promised and you relaxed into him, “and it’s the first day of fall - it’s all perfect. I love you.”
“I love you too,” you did. You really, really loved him.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Every year, the lot of you had the tradition of going to the local fall and Halloween fair. There was everything and anything fall related that you could have ever imagined.
It was a fun way to spend the day with your friends and get all those pumpkin treats you liked. You swore that one day everyone would catch onto them. Regardless you still have fun playing the games, going on a hayride, picking apples and pumpkins and getting to let all the animals.
This year one big thing remained yet to be done -
“Do you want to go to the corn maze?" You squeezed Steve's hand and tilted your head towards the entrance of the maze. You saw the kids standing in line, eager and excited to go in.
"I feel we have to, right? Like it's tradition," he nodded as you made a small sound of excitement. You were tugging on his hand in the direction of the long line, motioning for Nancy and Robin to follow along and to bring Eddie and Chrissy with them.
"It's definitely tradition," you agreed softly, "along with getting caramel corn and cotton candy before we leave!"
"Yes," he laughed softly, leaning his head on top of yours, "you just love the fall fair, don't you?"
"I love fall most of all," you agreed, before pausing for a moment, "but not as much as you, of course."
"Well that's reassuring to hear," not that he ever had to doubt that. He knew just how very much you loved him, "we'll get whatever you want before we leave."
"Can't forget some pumpkins," you were eyeing the big pumpkin patch where others were already hunting for their favorite pumpkins. Meanwhile Steve was staring at you with a confused expression, "what? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"More pumpkins?" He asked incredulously, "more?"
"Duh," you grinned, "we need ones to carve! They'll go right along with the others. Please Stevie?"
"I…of course," he shook his head with nothing but affection. As if he would ever say no to you for anything, "we'll carve the best pumpkins ever."
"Yay!" You bounced on your heels, "best friend and husband ever!"
"Mhmm," he stood behind you as you moved forward along with the line, "I better be since I'm doing this maze with you!"
"It'll be fun! It always is," you snorted in amusement, "we always get through it."
"Let's hope the tradition continues!"

By the time you made it to the front of the line to go into the maze, it was already getting dark. Darker than you’d have liked it. You weren’t about to admit to Steve that the darkness made your nerves spike up; instead you gingerly took the flashlights that were proffered to you. You handed one to Steve and stepped inside of the expansive rows of corn.
“Let’s make this a little more interesting,” Eddie piped up and looked between your small group, “let’s split up and see who can get to the end first. There’s lots of different paths but they all lead to the end.”
“You dinguses are so on," Robin exchanged an excited look with Nancy who eagerly nodded. The two of them were like peas in a pod, "let's do it."
"Hell yeah," Eddie high-fived Robin before he turned his attention to you and Steve, "what about the two of you, huh lovebirds?"
"Yeah," you sounded unsure but looked to Steve for confirmation only to be met with just as unsure of a look, "totally. Let's do it."
"Alright gang," Eddie illuminated one of the paths with his flashlight, "Robin and Nance can go this way. We'll go this way and the two of you go down that path. See you all at the end!"
Before you could say anything else the others had already started to run off. You swallowed thickly before turning your attention back to Steve. You stood closer to him as if that was somehow going to make everything better, "so, ugh, I'm not easily scared as you know, but right now I'm terrified. What if we get lost here forever Stevie?"
"I promise that won't happen," he looped his arm through yours as he started to lead you toward the path you had been assigned, "as long as we figure out a way to mark where we've been it'll be fine. We can break a stalk or something. That way we'll know where we've been."
"Okay. Its just that we've never been in here this late before and its so dark," you felt unsure suddenly, "promise-"
"I swear it," he whispered, "we'll be out of here in no time. And then we'll get all the sweets and pumpkins."
"I'm holding you to it!"

"It feels like we've been doing this forever," you cracked another stalk and looked at Steve with a huge pout on your face. He was tempted to kiss it away, but decided against it at that moment. He'd make up for it later and give you all the kisses.
"It's only been about an hour," he reassured you softly. It had been a long hour nonetheless and meant bent stalks of corn and much backtracking. It was reassuring however that there were still lots of other people around you. In a way it was almost kind of eerie hearing all the different sounds around you but not seeing the people, "I'm sure we've gotta be close to the end."
"You're right," you agreed, smiling when Steve reached for your hand and laced your fingers together, "I'm sure it'll - ahh!"
You and Eddie screamed at each other as you clutched at your now wildly beating heart. You'd just turned a corner just as he had; only he was also missing Chrissy.
"I…what happened?" Steve looked between the two of you before trying to figure out where Chrissy was, "where's your girl?"
"I…don't know," he scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, "we were just walking around and the next thing I knew was that Chrissy was gone."
"I'm sure we'll catch up to her at the exit," someone had to be the voice of reason and apparently that was going to be you. You gulped as you heard a shriek from somewhere else in the maze, "let's just get going so we can escape."
"Good idea," the two friends agreed in union as you looped your free arm through Eddie's. You hoped that with the two of them at your side things wouldn't be as bad.
But…you were still in the middle of a corn maze in the dark, cold night with nothing to help but measly flashlights.
You were definitely getting as many pumpkins as you wanted after this.

"I've never been happier!" Eddie threw up his arms as he ran through the exit of the maze. You spied Robin, Nancy, and Chrissy all standing at the side as they chatted away. Chrissy's face lit up at sight of her boyfriend and he almost knocked her over in his excitement, "I've never been happier to see land!"
"You've been on land," Chrissy was laughing however as you shook your head in amusement, "I can't believe you got lost!"
"At least you made it out," Robin crossed her arms over her chest as she looked around at your small group, "great job all, but Nance and I are the clear winners."
"I want a rematch!" Steve playfully glowered at her before he realized what he'd said, "next year."
"That's what I thought," and she was so smug that it caused you to laugh, "great job team!"
"C'mon Stevie," you leaned up and kissed him softly, "let's go and get those pumpkins and treats before they close. It's always getting late anyway."
"Okay," he half puffed but relaxed as you started to pull him towards the illuminated pumpkin patch, "hey - my promise came true! We made it out alive!"
"My hero," you beamed at him, "I love you so much, Stevie."
"I love you too, angel," he brought your hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to your knuckles, "you and all your pumpkins."

"I had a lot of fun today," you climbed into your side of the bed, lying down and immediately reaching for Steve. He'd beaten you to bed and was currently reading his book. He bookmarked his page before setting the book down and pulling you onto top of him. You grinned at him before gently pulling off his thin, silver wire framed reading glasses and putting them on the nightstand, "you're so handsome."
"You just love me for my looks, huh?" He was teasing and you scoffed at him.
"I love you for everything," you promised sweetly, "the fact that you're ridiculously handsome doesn't hurt either. Did you have fun today?"
"I did," his large, warm hands settled on your waist as you relaxed into him, "I had lots of fun too."
"And you like the pumpkins?" You might have gone a little extra…but another five pumpkins seemed necessary.
"I know them," he insisted, "we've got the best looking house in the neighborhood easily."
"That's what I was going for," you pressed your forehead to his and sighed wistfully, "thanks for always putting up with me."
"I've never putting up with you," he peppered your face in soft kisses, causing you to giggle softly, "I adore you."
"I adore you, Steve Harrington," you whispered, "so much."

corroded coffin has gotten really popular. im talking 'a stadium full of people for a single show' popular. steve, being eddie's husband, wants to be at every one of his concerts, but can't. and the day that eddie breaks the news of his world tour to steve, a flood of emotion sweep over him. of course, he's ecstatic, because people want to see cc play!
but, he knows he won't be able to go. steve has never left hawkins, and he's afraid something will happen if he does. that's part of the reason. the other part is his job. he can't miss a lot of days, let alone however long the tour takes. he teaches kids, and he can't just stop in the middle of a year. eddie knows steve can't go, but promises to call him everyday.
eddie's flight is early in the morning. steve drives him there, and robin and nancy tag along. they don't know how long it'll be. the drive is mostly quiet, beside the cool breeze from the windows. everyone knows how sad this goodbye is going to be. it's not forever. eddie kept repeating that, hugging steve. robin and nancy weren't sure if he was trying to convince himself or steve, but they were on the verge of tears. eddie and steve share one last kiss, and he walks away with his guitar case slung over one shoulder, and his duffel bag slung over the other.
steve drives home. he's shocked by how much eddie has affected the world. he's upset. over the next year, he keeps imagining eddie playing, and the crowd cheering. imagining him running to eddie on the stage, hugging him. robin and nancy stay over sometimes. the tourism dies down in hawkins. the only reason they were there in the first place is because they wanted to see cc live. eddie knows steve doesn't go out of hawkins, so most of his shows are based there, mostly so steve can watch them. eddie follows through with his promise, calling him every night, bragging about the different foods, and how fancy the hotel is, what some of the fans gave him.
a few more months pass. steve feels numb. eddie is getting tired, and wants more than anything to be back home, with steve. one night, eddie calls steve, and he doesn't pick up. eddie goes into panic mode. he immediately calls robin, and she simply explains the time difference, and how it's 2am in hawkins. eddie's emotions take over, and he just starts to bawl. he misses the morning kisses, he misses steve's smile whenever eddie has a show, he misses not being alone in a bed. and, however nice the fan art, and the gifts may be, he misses steve. he would give anything to be in steve's arms.
turns out, cc finished all of their tour early. he couldn't get in contact with steve, to tell him that he was flying home, and figured it would be better as a surprise. once the band arrives in hawkins, eddie knows steve is at the high school. it's a friday, and around 10 am, so he's teaching a class. perfect. eddie always loved dramatic entrances, and this was an incredible opportunity for one. eddie stops at the front desk, and has to get a visitors pass. he starts walking to steve's classroom, practically bouncing with excitement.
his boots make an echo down the empty hallway, at he makes a stop in front of a door. he quietly knocks. no answer. he knocks again, this time, opening the door, cautiously. steve has his back faced toward him, writing on a chalkboard. the whole class goes silent because 'oh my god superstar eddie munson is standing in our classroom?' one student squeals, and eddie puts a finger over his mouth, getting the kids to stay quiet. as steve is explaining the homework, still faced toward the board, eddie steps closer. eddie has a goofy grin on his face, as he raises his hand. "Mr. Harrington," he says, "what's the homework again?" steve sighs and turns around, and then realizes.
"You guys call him that, right?" eddie asks. steve's mouth is open, and his eyes are glassy. the room is mostly quiet, from confusion, and trying to figure out what the hell eddie munson is doing in their classroom. steve scans eddie's body. eddie's hair is longer, even longer than it was. he's wearing new rings, but still has his wedding ring on his middle finger as he did when he left. the bell rings, and as some of the kids flow out, some ask for signatures, and eddie scribbles something down on a piece of paper for each of them. the last student walks out, admiring the gibberish on their paper. steve stands still, tears slowly running down his face.
eddie steps toward him, and steve runs to eddie, practically jumping into his arms, sobs coming from both of them. robin walks in, and gasps. eddie doesn't let go. he never wants to. steve has some stubble, and his hair has grown out. steve sinks his face deeper in eddie's shoulder. he doesn't want to let go either. god, he's missed this. that part of steve that disappeared when eddie left, is finally there. like a puzzle piece.
eddie is his puzzle piece. the one that fits perfectly into place, and connects the other pieces. he's never loved a person more. robin will always be steve's platonic soulmate, but eddie.. eddie is his not platonic soulmate. and everything is okay again. steve is okay. eddie's okay. no more empty beds, no more envisioning the other's face, no more feeling empty. no more.
